The Buccaneers pulled out a win on Monday Night Football, but Jason and Mike can't understand why the Saints left that much time on the clock for another Tom Brady comeback.  And Jason doubles down on how much better off Baker Mayfield would've been if he had just gone to Tampa and backed up Tom Brady for a year.

The way tire buying should be Well, Tom Brady, He's
gonna win this game, isn't he? Two minutes to go
in the fourth quarter. The Buccaneers look absolutely awful the

(00:44):
entire game. The Saints kick a field goal for a
sixteen to three lead midway through the fourth quarter, and
then Brady takes the Buccaneers on a ninety yard drive
in about two and a half minutes, throws a touchdown
past to Kay Dot and make it sixteen to ten.
The Saints can't get a first down, and now Brady
and the Bucks have the football down six with a

(01:05):
minute fifty nine left to go and a chance to
get down the field and to win this game. I
I I would feel I feel like this is this
is wrong. That's somehow they can win this game. They
played so bad for so long and not like the Saints.
I was gonna say the Saints didn't exactly, but we

(01:25):
scored three points for the first three and a half quarters,
and somehow you can still win a game. That seems wrong,
that's wrong. This is wrong. The glory of football for
football as it were, right, you can score pretty much
nothing for an entire regular campaign, and you take into penalties,
it's and there you go. It's just yeah, but that's

(01:46):
how that But that's how soccer goes. This is football. Say,
big players can make the difference. Now, just Tampa, a
big play, explosive team. Go They've had a couple of
opportunities just downstretched arms here or drop here. Uh and
but you got Saints. I mean they're they're touchdown. Came
Taysom Hill running unopposed and forgot he was out there. Hey,

(02:10):
Andy Dalton finds him. Otherwise it's been Andy Dalton. Although
people are excited if they were on the short side
of the interception prop bet, like five of the money
was on him to throw one and he hasn't yet. Uh,
well they you know, if they score too fast, they
may get the ball back. So there is that Danny

(02:31):
that he's gonna have to throw. He's gonna have to
throw will be one. Uh. The Bucks have the ball
right now at the Saints twenty seven yard line. There's
a minute too left in the game. Saints have all
their time outs. The Bucks need to get in the
end zone. Uh. Dennis Allen was screaming for a turnover
on the previous play as Brady completed the pass to
kat And who went down in the flat and then

(02:53):
when he was getting touched down, the ball squirted out
picked up by the Saints. But uh, no, I didn't
see it. No, I, but I didn't see you, just
like the traffic to cut you off. Didn't see you.
Didn't see that. We're planning the ball and we're putting
the ball down and we're gonna go see a replay
to say you're you're just trying to pull some Why
didn't replay? They got up to the line of script replay,

(03:15):
I didn't see you. Sorry, no printer for tend I
didn't see you out of my left. They're saying ABC
like that, How dare you didn't see you? We rather
we gotta have Tom Brady win this division. I mean,
come on, man, they gotta win this division. Uh. If
I'm the Saints, you're calling come on man. Here's the
thing right now is that the Saints are really are

(03:37):
are absolutely blowing it because there's a minute some odd
left in this game. If the Tampa Bay Buccaneers score
a touchdown, all right, you need time left to get
back down the field. If they don't score a touchdown,
it doesn't matter and the game is over. So why
aren't you using your time outs Because it doesn't matter

(03:59):
if you take over with ten seconds left or a
minute and thirty left. If you're the Saints and you're winning, right,
you're gonna kneel on the football. You're gonna be done.
All you've done here now by not calling time outs
is allow the Bucks to move down the field their
own pace and get in the end zone and give
you no time left. So I don't know why the
Saints aren't using their time outs here at least to say, hey,

(04:21):
if you if you get in the end zone on
us and you score, Okay, you get in the end
zone and you score, but we will have time left
for us to get down the field. We don't need
a field goal to win the game. So I really
I I don't understand. I get the I get the well,
they're winning. They need to get in the end zone.
We have to we just have to stop them. But
you've seen Brady do this a lot, right, he just
took it down the field. Here, they're inside the ten

(04:42):
yard line. Why are you not using your time out
trying to give you more time left on time outonds left? Oh,
we should call it now, I guess let's do it.
And Brady's just throwing a touchdown pass Tom Brady could
do that. Uh. There is a flag on the play, however,
and it looks like it's coming back. There is holding,

(05:07):
and that's gonna take the touchdown off the board. Uh.
Smith gets called for the hold. He is upset, of course. Ever,
every offensive lineman very upset. H he has called for
the hold. When Brady throws this touchdown and this was
gonna win the game with about thirteen seconds left to go,
great pass middle of the end zone. Uh. And he
didn't have to hold them right into the middle. He

(05:28):
could have just kept turning outside. He didn't have to
hold him. Didn't have to hold him. And you Godwin
makes the catch and that was the game. Now you
push it back to the fifteen yard line with sixteen
seconds left to go. Uh, the Saints still have two
time outs left. So there is that. Yah, don't worry,
but there is on the analysis, as as we we've
talked about for a long time, if it doesn't affect

(05:49):
the play, do you have to call it, no matter
how egregious, because we've don't. We've seen that a lot
in the National Football League. Well, when it happens impacting
the play, and in this case, based on where he was,
he ended up blocked by another player, Yeah, but he
was taken. He was by being mauled. I don't want

(06:09):
to I'm not I'm not saying it wasn't a hold.
I'm just playing the devil's advocation. Even though he couldn't
get to him, it was still close enough that you
have to It was like it was within the pocket
where he where he got called for it. So and
I guess I would assume thinking think and thinking this,
if he doesn't arm bar him, can he get to
the quarterback? Can get to the quarterback? Because they've knocked

(06:31):
down a couple of bucks, It's like, oh, why is
that penalty? Why why did you not throw the flag
while the past was uncatchable? Right? You? He wasn't gonna
catch the ball, but maybe if that interference he could
have gotten it. So I because of the penalty the
way it was, because he just you know, put that
arm out. Okay, that was well, if he doesn't do that,
potentially two more steps he's out there end, you know,
completely me being agitated there. I mean, there's no doubt

(06:52):
that he grabbed, twisted, turned, et cetera. Just where it
was on the field. I don't know how necessary it was,
was the thing? So you get penalized for for being
silly or dumb as some might say. Here, so eight
seconds left, chaos potentially ensuing because if Tom Brady wins
this game, you'll be mad because they only played good

(07:12):
football for two minutes. Yeah, it's it just seems wrong.
Like I said, it seems wrong that the Bucks can
win this game. It seems wrong. But I have nothing
against the Bucks. No, no, no, it's it's twelve. It
seems still it seems it seems wrong that the Patriots
can the Patriots. It's that that's just really hurt my
point right there. It seems wrong that the Bucks could

(07:34):
play so badly fourth. I mean it for three and
a half quarters, but the NFL season, we could do
that all over the place. Oh and there it's a touchdown.
Brady throws a touchdown with eight seconds left. It is
sixteen six or three seconds left for shod White catching
the ball on the two and diving into the end zone.

(07:58):
So now we're an extra going away from the actually
winning this game. Did do that? He did it, and
the under still comes in lots something great. That's extra point.
You never know, really and again I I as great
as this was, you know for hey, the Bucks go down?
They do. I don't know. How do you not use
your time outs if you're if you're the same, he's
only got one. I don't I don't get it. I

(08:21):
don't get how you don't use your time outs to
leave more time on the clock potentially for you if
you need it, because it doesn't matter how much time
is left when you take over. The extra point is
up and good sixteen wait flag on? Wait wait, wait
flag on the extra point? Hang on, this could back
it up. I don't know that they celebrate by running
around the stadiums. Look at Tonio Brown's taking his shirt

(08:43):
off again and it's running around. Why Wade bogs on
a horse? So the extra point is good. It's gonna
be seventeen sixteen. The Bucks look like they'll be kicking
off from the Saints twenty yard line, and that's gonna
do it for New York. I mean, I I the
whole thing. This is where I always say, Hey, you

(09:04):
know what, I can be your time out coach. Right,
I'm gonna be your your time clock coach. I'll tell
you just need to talk to me. The last two
minutes of the game is at a Dennis Allen. They're
driving here right, it's first down is about a minute
twenty five left. Maybe you want to use some time
outs here, because it doesn't matter how much time is
left when you take over the football, but it matters
how much time is left if they get in the

(09:25):
end zone. Maybe you want to start using it. Yeah,
it's good, call your timeouts, call your time out card.
Because they took over with to left and then they
got down into Saints territory first in ten to your
point a minute thirty left. It was first and ten
at the New Orleans thirty one after a Leonard four
net ten yard run at that point, and I know

(09:47):
what Dennis Allen's response is going to be, our defense
had done the job all night after you just watched
them go ninety yards down the field get the football
back and if you've seen him do it so many
times before and he's gonna do it again. But does
also a guy who's left Jamis Winstud who's been do
a jump in Jackson, I'm ready coach week after week
and and QB one Andy Dalton keeps trotting out there, right,

(10:09):
so you can Dennis Allen has already shown logic sometimes
fails him when you're talking about the number of turnovers.
And I know Winston wasn't exactly great in the first
game against Tampa back when we thought, you know, they'd
be world beating other defense has been. And that's why
I made the comparison all along to Denver slightly better offense,

(10:29):
not terribly explosive, but the defense still in the top
seven in the National Football League. But then you look
at all of the turnovers that have been there for
the Saints, the inability to get over on a weekly basis,
and then you have Jameis Winston sitting there going. Now
I'm healthy, I'm not sure why I'm not playing, And
now you have this with your time and time out
management that leaves uh, leaves things to be desired. And

(10:53):
now this goes up on the metal stand of failures
by head coaches in these situations. Again, how much would
it have been? What? What do I say? It's it's
you come to my come to my. Uh. I should
send out a thing for Dennis. I should send it
in the off season. Send it to Cam Jordan's He'll respond.
Send it Danny, You'll get a response within a half hour.

now a final. Alvin Kamara is tackled there for some reason,

(11:39):
not trying to pitch the ball back after he's getting
brought down on the final play of the game. Kick off,
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers somehow find a way to win
this seventeen sixteen They play awful for the first three
and a half quarters. The Saint just sitting here going, man,
we're gonna be five and nine and right back in
at in the NFC South. Oh, no so much. John

(12:00):
Brady five finishes two and one thirty six of fifty four.
God when you're leading receiver. Eight catches sixty three yards
touchdown by White down the stretch. He was nine for
twenty eight rushing the ball, but six for a touchdown,
a toning for an earlier fumble. Be sure to catch

A thrilling final three and a half minutes for the
Tampa Bay Bucket. Here they play like a salute crap

(13:03):
for fifty five minutes, but Tom Brady leads the Buccaneers
down on a ninety yard drive to get the end zone.
In a couple of minutes touchdown past the k Dotton
Great six team ten Saints can't get a first down.
Brady gets the football back with about just under two
minutes left to go and throws a touchdown past to

(13:23):
her child White six yards with three seconds left to
win it for Tampa Bay seventeen to sixteen. And we
talked earlier in the show, we've talked about this that
to be realistic about Tom Brady, Brady is playing for
his NFL life. Over the course of the next few weeks.
He may talk about wanting to come back next year,

(13:46):
and is he gonna be with Tampa, Is it gonna
be someplace else? Is he gonna get to go to
San Francisco as you know, and and then, but if
he continues to play like he has played the past
few weeks, it doesn't matter what he wants to do.
His career is going to be done, and he's gonna say,
you know what, sorry, my my contract with Fox Sports
is gonna start now, because no one's going to want

(14:07):
him if this is how he is playing, because this
has not been a run where you can say to yourself,
if you're an NFL team, yeah we go in on
Tom Brady. Next year, we're gonna win a Super Bowl.
Brady's still been okay this year, right, he's been He's
been okay, and the Bucks are doing what I said
they should do weeks ago. Brady's gotta throw the football
fifty times a game. You can't run the football, just

(14:27):
let him throw it, throw and throw and throw it.
But Brady's year this year is not great. They're not
scoring points, they're not putting points on the board. They're
six and six, they're lucky. They're just in an absolutely
awful division. But Brady is playing for his football life
and if he doesn't pick it up, no one's going
to want him. Nobody really wanted him three years ago.

(14:49):
It was only Tampa Bay and a little bit of
the Chargers. That was it. It was Tampa Bay. Yeah,
we're in win win win, Oh, we're kinda out by
ourselves here. No one else is right behind us running,
and the Chargers kind of wanted it, but they backed
off and they well, they got Justin Herbert, so they're
they're absolutely fine. But there was hardly any interest in
Brady three years ago. What's it gonna be in the

(15:09):
off season. If this is the Tom Brady you're going
to get, it's gonna have a quarterback rating of well
under a hundred for every game. Didn't play great tonight
through the ball a lot tonight, had two drives. The
best thing Brady did tonight was pushed the conversation another week. Boy,
he was really bad for fifty five minutes, but he
did have those two drives at the end. They made
a really bad team there in first place. So what

(15:31):
Brady did tonight was kind of kicked the can down
the road another week. Where to make other teams say, Okay,
I'm not turning the page on him, but I'm also
not ready to say all right in the off season,
forget about these rookie quarterbacks that are coming in. We're
gonna go get Tom Brady. I read it the next
The next five weeks, he is playing for his NFL life,
and it's likely going to result in a playoff birth

(15:51):
because again this division is really bad and they're gonna
be the only team that that is probably gonna finish
over five hundred. But he is playing for his NFL future,
for for being able to play, for teams being interested
in signing him for next year. The final five games
of the year, they still have dates with San Francisco
and Cincinnati. When we talk about m v P S,

(16:14):
I know burrows hat has been thrown into the ring
as maybe it's one of those oversized one. They put
one on our buddy Amy Trashyes, you know, I kind
of I'm overside. Everybody's got one. I kind of like
the oversized hat, but then I feel like it's too heavy.
See I thought as an alternative to getting a bunch
of full sized helmets that it would display nicely on

(16:35):
a wall autograph on the what I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah. All of a sudden, everybody had him on
everything and putting gamey trask. Suddenly, you know, everybody else
is sitting around there with the size seven five eighths
or better and and whatever. And then you got Amy,
who's doesn't have a size seven and five eighths and

(16:55):
the thing looked that much bigger. But you buy a
hat like this, I'll let you got a free Polo super.
Oh it looks as wanted one of those hats. I
always wanted the the al cervic. I always wanted that
hat to be able to wear. We can make that happen.
I'm sure Carolina, Arizona and Atlanta are the other three

(17:16):
games remaining on the Bucks schedule, so opportunities there. I mean,
we we go through the roster and when we talk
with Jason locket for he's like, well, you got him
and him and and that's fine. Yeah. Evans has been
there and they've been talking openly and it's been out
in the media tog about their connection. And early in
this game, the big deal was no targets, no targets.
He finished with a pretty solid game when it's all

(17:38):
said and done. But when we look at Godwin was
coming off injury, so rounding back into shape, Cameron Braid
hasn't been able to stay healthy, Leonard for Net as
a runner as a shell of himself. Why the offensive
line has been disastrous, and then Tristan Worths gets hurt
the end of the game. What was the last week?
And so Rashad White finally shows a little bit of bursts.

(18:01):
But if you're gonna call runs on on first down,
I mean you got Russell Wilson on the side, yelling
runner pass, runner pass, you gotta let him know, uh,
and all of that. So the timing has been off,
he's been he's gotten rid of the ball very quickly tonight.
The presser was there, and he's always struggled against New Orleans,
whatever is going on there. That's always been the case
with Dennis Allen and the defenses touchdowns them and so

(18:25):
I mean they've they've played him well, uh, knocked down
a couple of passes tonight, and you can see the
timing on deeper routes hasn't been there. When he's taken shots,
it's a step too far. Maybe expecting the Julio Jones
of old so you overthrow him, or Scottie Miller. Maybe
you didn't expect him to be as fast as he was,

(18:45):
so you undershot him on a big play in the
first half. So I mean, you've you've got all of
that at work. The defense is still fantastic, because that's
the thing. You can still circle that saying if they
can get into the tournament, and right now, coming out
of that division, you would say they do. I saw
the interesting stat This is the only the second time
in Tom Brady's career he's had to come back or

(19:07):
he's been able to come back from a deficit of
at least thirteen points in the fourth quarter, the other
time being I'm sure it was the Jets three. Baby. Yeah, well,
oh good, it wasn't the Jets. Jets didn't make the list,
so like it's easy to point to, Okay, he's got
sixteen touchdowns against three picks whatever. HB quarterback ratings still

(19:28):
over ninety for those that love that, Still in the
top five in passing yards. Uh, whatever metric you want
to throw at it. It doesn't have to be pretty,
like tonight was not pretty. But you gotta w and
you take it and you move forward. For Brady, if
I had to make a decision on him right now,
all right, you're gonna make decision on Brady. What's gonna happen?

(19:49):
What's it? What's it gonna be like after this year
for Brady? Because this is a whatever type year, right
trying to get through with the divorce, getting to the playoffs.
It's just not in there. If I had to, if
I had to say one side or the other right now,
I would say this is Brady's last year because there

(20:09):
won't be the interest level from other teams because you
look at the draft is rich with quarterbacks. Right. You
have three quarterbacks to be taken in the first three
or four picks, right, So that's gonna take some teams
out of the mix right away. How many contenders are
going to say, yeah, we're gonna go all in for
Tom Brady this year? He will be the only one.
He will be cheap because it's okay, Tom, come here

(20:32):
for one year and let's see if it works. Nobody's
gonna give Brady more than a one year deal, right nobody.
Could I see the Jets doing it? If Mike White stinks,
I can see it. But think about but think about
the future for Brady now, it is no one's going
to give him more than a one year deal. That's
going to be it. No one's gonna say yeah, Tommy,
like no, no, no, no one, And that's not going

(20:55):
to happen. So he's going to have to be okay
with signing a one year deal. Some place and hoping
to catch lightning in a bottle, and if that's the
only thing he's going to get, and that's if he
plays well down the stretch like you may see, hey
did some nice things tonight. Then boy, look what happened
He played San Francisco. Oh my god, that was ugly. Um.
The more the time that goes on, the more time

(21:18):
that it's going to be taken out of his hands.
And is he really going to be someone who's like, yeah,
I'm gonna hit my third team for one year and
see that's not going to be him. Well, because that's
that's the other part, right, goes to the personal side
of it, in terms of what he wants his legacy
to be, in terms of him writing it for himself. Right,
got all these other business ventures obviously the contract with

(21:39):
Foxes there, but you get back into the personal side
in terms of whatever agreements are in place, written or
not with Giselle going forward as to what's a viable opportunity, right,
what actually makes sense? Right? That report last week about
well maybe you look at New England, Okay, maybe I

(22:00):
mean Bill Belichick in making noise again about play calling
and changes and how difficult that is, that's a good
sound bite coming out of yesterday's uh, you know, out
of today's pressers, I should say, but we we look
at the the opportunities. Not only will they be small
because a lot of teams have gotten their quarterbacks or

(22:21):
they've gone all in on the Hey, let's be bad
because of the draft class or or that kind of
thinking that it's it's few. Couple that and whatever algorithm
you want to write with, what are viable institutions that
work from a family standpoint? When he keeps talking about
how important it is and how much he's loving the

(22:43):
agreement he's got and how much he sees his kids.
Because if if I, if you wanted to take Tom
Brady back in time to the beginning of this year
where he un retires to come back, you know, he
wanted to get away from Tampa. He wanted to get
to Miami, he wanted to do other things long term.
I am sure he thought, well, after this year, I'll

(23:04):
leave Tampa. Maybe I'll stay if I really want to,
but I'll be able to leave and I'll go someplace
for the next next three or four years because I
want to play till I'm fifty and that's what I
want to do, and I'll be able to find the
right It may not be that many teams, but whether
it's San Francisco, whether it's somebody else, I'll be able
to find that team that's gonna that's gonna go. So
I don't look like I'm just jumping from team to
team at the end, like I'm shock and suddenly it's

(23:25):
it's gonna go from team to team of team the shack.
I'm not. I'm not gonna So that's probably what he thought.
I'm sure he thought that because I'm not gonna fall
off the cliff. This is I'm still playing great. I'm
I'm aging backward because I'm wearing TV twelve gear and
I'm eating avocado ice cream. It is I'm aging backward.
And and and now look where now look where you're

(23:46):
at underwear. Not you need more recovery underwear. But you're
completing two thirds of your past attempts. You're in the
top five in yards plus ninety plus. Not that quarterback
rating is to be all to end all for me.
For me, it's you hitting throws. Arm strength still seems
to be there. It's not like he's under throwing guys,
and and where you're you're watching the dead arm of

(24:08):
of Drew Brees. Although the lightning strike gag might might
have actually worked in his favor, could have renamed his
arm wonder Boy and gone out there. But but for Brady,
I mean, you still see when there's time to deliver
the ball. I e. Occasionally a play action works, or
the offensive line maybe they're holding, maybe they're not. You've

(24:29):
got time to get it down the field. That I
mean that from a skill set is what I'm trying
to say, is it hasn't hit the cliff. It maybe
inching ever close, Maybe the toes are over the line.
But but our team's going to actually believe we're Tom
Brady away from winning the Super Bowl. I don't. I

(24:50):
don't know that any teams are going to do that.
I don't anything we are next year Tom Brady away
from winning the Super Bowl. Let's let's assume San Francisco
comes back in its current form. Tray it will be
the quarterback is got to be read well, you gotta
take getting hurt week one. He's gonna be ready in
the next year. He's gonna be ready to go again.
Are you committed to him? And if you could bring

(25:11):
back bring in Brady for one year with McCaffrey there
and all of these guys assembled. But do you''re gonna
You're gonna take the job away from Trey Lance again
for Brady until they didn't take it away from this year.
He got hurt, got he got the gig, He got
the gig, and he got hurt. And then okay, here
comes Jimmy gar But now Jimmy Garoppolo gets hurt. But
in the business of football, if you're the four or

(25:32):
if you're the forty niners, do you think there may
be even a better option out there than Brady? At
this I don't know who that would be. Look Garoppolo
after getting hurts the way starting quarterbacks, I heard people
trying to invoke Philip Rivers name today just Dost, Damn Thing,
Drew Brees. All these guys will all come back. But
like legitimately San Francisco could use the quarterball, don't they

(25:53):
call Philip Rivers? Like did you watch Philip Rivers in
his final years? They'll all come back. I really I
just went when it's when it comes down to and
you have to make that decision. How many teams are
gonna say, yes, we're Tom Brady away from winning. We're
going we're going to we will get him. But who's
that team. Who's that team that's gonna say yeah, after

(26:13):
this year, we're gonna do it. Now. The Jets are
gonna try to trade for Aaron Rodgers first. Before that,
they're gonna give him a trade turner deal. He's the
eleven years Brady, Brady, we got you till your sixty
you mean fifty, No, no, sixty, We want you to
use I'll sign that contract, all right. We want a commitment.
I mean right now. If you said to me, is

(26:33):
this it for Brady? I would say yeah, because not
from his desire, but other teams are going to say, yeah,
he's just not what we thought he was anymore, and
we're gonna move on. Be sure to catch live editions

(27:39):
trains can't. We'll hear from Tom Brady coming up in
about fifteen minutes because he's meeting with the media now
following his big two touchdown three minute comeback at the
end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But a little different
angle on Brady coming off tonight's game and how it
dovetails into another quarterback that we saw in the news

(28:01):
today is Baker Mayfield is now looking for a new team.
The Panthers cut ties with him earlier today, kind of,
according to reports, a mutual decision if I'm not gonna play,
let me go. The Panthers said, okay, sure. So now
Baker Mayfield is looking for his next opportunity. Already he's
been linked to, Hey, we can bring him into San

(28:21):
Francisco now, but let me go back. Now, I want
to go back. What would you right here is go back?
I want to go back, back, back, back back. Oh,
just way to like do Burman announcing on the show,
All right, way do I get to have a wait
to do that for like a day and a half.
Wait for that. You're sitting next to me. I get
to Jack, You're kidding Burman announcing brock Purty taking over.

(28:43):
Just mate. I want to go back back, back to
what I said. I don't even have any Mr irrelevance
in there. I got other stuff in there. I want
to go back to what I said was going to
be the best course for Baker Mayfield after leaving the Browns, right,
he was gonna have to leave at some point, the

(29:04):
Browns gonna let him go, and he was gonna have
to decide where do I want to go play next?
And showing you that the idea of Baker Mayfield is
better than the reality of Baker Mayfield. You watch the
Panthers fall for the same act that the Browns fell in.
Look at him coming in, look at him all the
swagger he has. We love the way he takes control

(29:24):
of the team. He's our starting quarterback. And what happened.
He didn't even make it to the end of the
season and he's gone. And now you're having Sam Donald
and p J. Walker are both starting over him. So yeah,
you fell vi the boy. I love the swagger this
guy has. Then the games start and look what happens.
Oh wait, he's not that guy. But what was I

(29:44):
going looking out for Baker Mayfield? What did I tell
you was the best path for him going into next season? Right,
he's still a young quarterback. He flames out in Cleveland,
they trade him. He helps make them relevant. He did
some good things. There's only people think Baker Mayfield was
always terrible. It's not Zach Wilson. He wasn't always terrible.
He did some good things. But okay, they moved on.

(30:05):
They got to Shawn Watson. The best thing for him
to do. I said it. You remember me saying this
was called Tampa backup Brady for a year. Be Tom
Brady's backup disappear, so people can just get you out
of their mind. Other teams have to worry about the
drama of Baker Mayfield, the swagger and this and that, okay,

(30:27):
and sit behind him. Learn what it means to be
a starting quarterback in the NFL. Learned behind Tom Brady,
take time learning a new offense and not just have
to jump in and try to learn a new offense
on the fly, because that's what happened in Carolina and
look what happened. He couldn't do it. I'm gonna jump
in right away. Oh that's kind of dangerous now. I
mean it's good, it's good, it's good, it's good, and
he couldn't match with the offense. Go to Tampa. Sit

(30:50):
behind Tom Brady for a year. Then in the off season,
either Brady is retiring leaving, or you have increased your
value because you stayed away for a year. You watch
the rest of the league teams looking for quarteas be
looking for quarterbacks, and teams to be looking for bridge
quarterbacks this offseason immensely, the Jets will be looking for

(31:12):
a bridge quarterback. Maybe other teams are gonna be looking
for a bridge quarterbacks. Maybe maybe the Steelers gonna be
looking for a bridge quarterback. Other teams are gonna be
looking for that. And once you go away for a year,
people forget about you. You learn an offense, you take
some time, you take a breath. Oh you know what,
Baker Mayfield might be worth a gamble here, and he
goes in like Mitchell Drabinsky, like someone who gets a

(31:35):
chance to be a starting quarterback. Now, you gotta perform
to keep the job. And if Drabinsky had performed a
little bit better, he would have kept the job for
longer and kept Kenny picking on the sideline. But the
Steelers weren't scoring. They had to make the move. But
it's there for you to do that. It would have
been there for Baker Mayfield. Hey, maybe the guy's got
it now. Maybe he's a little bit less swagger licious
and a little bit more of a student of the
game and we can trust him more. Hey, we're okay,

(31:57):
we're having Baker Mayfield come in and compete to your
bridge quarterback. Maybe he's our long term answer. Maybe he
comes in and does it for us, but we have
interest in Baker Mayfield. That's what he should have done.
That was the best thing from the long rue. But
instead it was, no, I gotta get somewhere to get
back on the field right away. I get back of
the No, dude. Sometimes taking that step back is the
step forward. And now nobody wants them. No one's gonna

(32:20):
bring Baker Mayfield it to be their quarterback next year.
He failed with the failed with the Browns. He failed
miserably with the Carolina Panthers. Again. Sam Dartley couldn't keep
him up the field, couldn't keep p J. Walker off
the field. So now he's ruined and now anywhere he goes,
he's a backup. So now I tell you what was
the better What was the better option? It was always
what I said it was. Yeah, it's it's the short

(32:40):
term gains, long term gains. And when you try to
do this in any part of your decision making, wherever
you're you're listening, whatever part of your life you're thinking
about your job, your your home, finances, whatever the case
may be, health on concerns, you know you're prioritizing things, right,
what do we need to pay now, what do we
need to push off and trips or whatever the case

(33:03):
may be. For Baker Mayfield, he thought it was more
important with McCaffrey and d J. Moore there in Carolina,
I can go win that job right there, a distressed property,
I can go work with Matt rule and this is
gonna work while Matt rules out of a job. Now
he's going back to college where he'll try another reclamation
project and away you go. Uh. We had joked about

(33:25):
it at the time, and I know Bob Gara, the
Robert Garret, the executive producer for The Odd Couple, were
on similar paths. He and I. I said he'll be
uh'll hosting a podcast with McAfee. Before long was like,
now I'll be working for the Big twelve networks. So
we'll see where those those stars aligned down the road.
But but in the interim, yeah, it's always the running

(33:49):
the risk of a career delayed. Right If you ask
Joe Flacca right now, if there, if there had been
an opportunity, and we don't know what he's opportunities may
have been, that if if he would rather be have
been the bridge quarterback somewhere else instead of languishing on
the bench now behind Mike White and Zach Wilson before him,

(34:09):
He'd much rather be in another uniform, right. Unfortunately he's third.
The opportunity was there in New York potentially, but no, uh,
it's not his job. So the potential is that you
then get buried and you never get that other shot
because then if it becomes two to three years down
the lder hode. But he's young enough, there's always teams

(34:31):
looking for that guy that well, we couldn't get our
guy in the draft, or we didn't draft high enough
to get him, or the guy we got is a
year or two away. There's a lot of guys where
it's the we can fix what's wrong with you mechanically
and your decision making on the field. Baker Mayfield's a
guy I gotta I gotta guess for a lot of
front offices. He's a no fly guy based on the

(34:53):
way he's reacted fights with Colin, fights with other people
in social media, and those are in the distant passed
on a relative basis. Why do you go away for
a year. That's why you go away for you. But
once you're back in that chair, don't tell me you're
not gonna be looking to stick it to guys as
fast as you can. And then if it goes south again,
you're not. You're not gonna cry like a like a
petulant child. Well that's on you. You you have, that's

(35:15):
my point, have to have. But I don't think any
organization at this point, after he's been through these spots,
are gonna go and be a team number three. No, no, no,
That's why you had to go somewhere. You had to
go to Tampa, sit behind Brady for a year, and
then it would have been that would have been your
second team, and that would have worked out. It could
have been you could have taken over in Tampa too.
If Brady is leaving, could be right, Hey, I mean

(35:36):
I'm in this offense for a year. Let's roll with it.
You're gonna draft again. More on this coming up next,
and then always happen to be right. A spetch about
Baker Mayfield for the tirect dot com studios could hear
from Brady too,
