Happy Holidays. How you doing, my friend Martin already it's
a it's a pleasure. It's you know, a Christmas gift
(01:05):
come early right, supposed to be present under the tree
in December twenty five. This is a present right here,
right now, on a Friday twelve twenty three. I'm getting
them early. I love it. I get to do three
out four hours when your buddy can't wait. This should
be very exciting for you, you know, me being the
veteran that I and I'll look at. I'm just kidding you.
I'm just busting your by the way, I was a
little nervous. I wasn't gonna be able to get on
(01:26):
the everybody knows I go up here in in Vermont.
We got about, let's say, about four inches of snow
in the last a couple of hours, and it was
would you believe that? The winds and I know you're
gonna think of exaggerating this, um. The weather ladies said
it got up to a hundred and forty nine miles
an hour up in the hills, up in the mountains.
I've never heard of it getting up just in my
(01:47):
area got the seventy miles an hour, and our shingles
were flying off. I'm like, I hope our power doesn't
go out. I mean here, I am seventy seventy miles
an hour. I was getting up to their like hurricane
Forest wins. I'm from the Orleans, Louisiana, so you're used to.
You know, I've seen a whole bunch of hurricanes in
my day and age. That's I mean, incredibly fast. But
I do have to say this, I'm very very thankful
(02:10):
and happy now because I moved I saw ARNI don't
know this. I lived in New Orleans before Harry Ki Katrina,
and then after Katrina, I moved to outside Detroit, my
West Bloomfield, Michigan, right home with Matthew Jude on a
matter of fact, second in NFL and Sacks. However, I
get there my first time ever really seeing snow in
real life. Okay, now it took about four or five
(02:32):
years since, but I'm very very thankful and happy now
that we have determinology like bomb cyclones. And I'm looking
at here says winter storm Elliott like it's named as
in winter storm the Weather Channel was up here, they're
showing Orchard Park, New York. That's winter storm Elliott is
in Orchard Park, New York. Because when I was in
high school and in college, my first couple of years
(02:54):
in Michigan, they just called it a blizzard and said
good luck, get to work, do whatever you're supposed to do.
Not no, no no, no, It is a major weather event
happening outside. I'm gonna be a little bit late. I
might miss class here. I shouldn't be expected to be
here at the same time because I overtook because I
slept and all of a sudden there's five ft of
snow on the ground. No, it's maybe what it is.
(03:14):
It is a natural disaster, right, hurricanes, blizzards. So I'm
very thankful that you're here and you're safe, and you're
here and joining me on the radio today. But I
hope everybody out there and ver Mind and everywhere else
in the country that's dealing with this is able to
a be safe and stay home, or if you're traveling
for the holidays and gotten to where you're going and
be not forced to have to go anywhere. Oh amen
(03:36):
to that. I gotta tell you that A shapeless book
for tirerack dot com. But um, that's why. Because I
have a couple of broncos I put on these big
old nearly tires on don't with the tireraq dot com
um researching for like ten million times. I love that place.
I love the website. And then I have a Cherokee
that my wife has, so we got all these big
old nearly tires. It is. It's pretty bad out there.
(03:59):
Um And look, I've been in Vermont almost nine ten
years now, and I've seen a lot of snow come
through this to where area. It's not so much the snow,
it's the wind. I never I've never seen the wind
quite like this. Are Seriously, our shingles were just like
flying off. It was just like, I'm like, we're not
gonna have any shi goes left of the house. When
it's all said, do you know yeah, I mean seventy
(04:21):
winds is that's a category one nine up in the
in the mountains out there by the way, big plans
for Christmas? To you do all your Christmas shopping? You
got any wait, things to do or don't tell me
you gotta run to the mall or anything to come on, man,
I'm not running to the mall, Arnie. I'm a millennial,
all right. I've ordered all of mine on my phone
days and days and days and days prior. Here's something
(04:41):
dumb Alright, she may be listening, so I'm gonna have
to talk around this. My girlfriend. I have a fan
of the show, but she uh, I asked, you just
want to gift or an experience, right, So I decided
to gift her the experience instead of like going out
and getting a physical gift. We're gonna go do something right. Okay,
that's not good. But how do you unwrap and experience? Right?
(05:02):
That's hard to do. It's hard anybody, you know. So
what I was googling ideas of how to how do
you know? How do you box? You know a thing? Right?
How do you box a moment? Right? It's hard to do.
So it said, you know, you could buy something kind
of cheap that is representative of that moment, and uh
and box that. So what I did was I bought
(05:23):
a coloring book that is representative of the moment. I
lost the damn coloring book. I got no idea where
it is. It's my apartment. My dad's coming to visit me.
Her family will be coming down at some point to
to come visit, you know, just come and like hang
out and remember my house. So I've been cleaning this
dog on thing from top to bottom and I cannot
find the stupid dog on book that I'm supposed to
(05:46):
box that isn't even a dog on real present. So,
uh so Christmas is off to a great start. I
gotta tell you're a lot nicer than me. And I'm
not kidding around. I brought my wife two things, and
and Aaron Torres knows this to be true. I brought
her the new deluction shovel because she loves the snow,
love the show. I'm not kidding around. So I got
her new shovel, and then I got her an eighteen
(06:07):
and one tool. So like when you're doing stuff around
the house, like with the screwdriver and need stuff to fix,
she could have it right all in one in in
one spot. So that was the two gifts I got her. Well,
you know what, if you're thinking, this guy, how's he
even married this getting I'm not kidding about that. I'm well,
I'm serious. I mean it sounds like she might be
saving with some up keep around the house too, That's
(06:30):
for sure. We got a lot to get to. It's
four hours, it's Christmas time. Look, I know it's tough
out there. The weather's batt A lot of a lot
of fights got canceled, people got stuck being at home.
If you're at home, you're feeling a little depressed, you're
feeling a little bit down. Keep the show on. We're
gonna take you through the next four hours. Lots going on,
plenty of sports to get to, you know, you I
keep forgetting. Tomorrow's like a full slate of NFL games,
(06:52):
you know that, right, And it's a full slate on Saturday.
I love that stuff, you know. You know, I'll say
this sometime Saturday full all bothers me. I like the
fact that you know we're not gonna be fighting at
one o'clock or ten am, depending on where you are
and country watching these games. You're not fighting watching and
watch it on a Sunday because or Christmas Sunday. That's tough.
But I would say just the idea were a Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday,
(07:15):
and the next Thursday. It's a lot. I'm not complaining yet,
but it's a lot to do going on. I would
hate to be as somebody who hadn't done my Christmas
shopping by now, because what am I supposed to do it?
You know, don't make me fire you, by the way,
I already already getting on my nerves when you tell
me it's a little bit too much. That it's never
a little bit too much. It's like fried food. It's
(07:36):
never a little bit too much, you know what I mean.
I hear that all the all, the more fried food,
the better. UM. And you know, guy, I want to
start with this before we even get to the NFL, because, UM,
I don't think I've been on since the passing of
Frank o' harris. I gotta tell you, deeply saddened about this.
And I never met the man, but I've heard so
many wonderful things about him. He's the type of guy
even though you didn't root for the Pittsburgh Steelers, you're
rooting for Franco Harris. He's the type of guy that
(07:58):
you always wanted on your tea team, A guy that
you admired even though he was on the opposing team. Um,
even though your team was playing them. Yeah, yeah, you
just admired what he did. I can't believe today is
the fiftieth anniversary of the Immaculate Reception. Um. It goes
down in history. Um, all these years in the NFL.
Was one of the big time moments in the NFL,
(08:20):
A little bit before your time, Martin. But UM, quite
the human being, quite the person, and sadly will be
missed in Right before they were going to honor him,
this weekend, So very very sad to see that, you know, yeah,
And I mean the thing about the Immaculate Reception is
if you know anything about the history of football, uh
and the history of media and television, they kind of
(08:43):
grow into popularity at the same time, um, in terms
of the ubiquitousness of television across the nation, and then
you start to see football was one of the things
that people were really tuning into across the country. The
Immaculate Reception was one of those first kind of moment
meets that almost you know that everybody quote unquote was
(09:03):
able to see when as opposed to like the newspaper era,
from what I understand, you know, went from reading about
to seeing about And I think you have to quantify
Franco Harris and the Steelers of the seventies as as
one of the people that are one of the groups
of people that helped get this lead to where it
is today. You know, it was it was quite the player.
I mean, everybody talks about it obviously still fifty years later. UM.
(09:26):
Just a shame that he passed away right before they
were gonna honor him. But Franco Harris rest in peace.
Just a great human being. Heard so many great things
about him. I wish I could have met the man.
By the way, if you want to get into the
show today, Twitter is the best way to reach us.
Martin White. That's at Martin Wise. I'm it stinking genius.
One h we got the Power Hour and a bonus hours,
(09:46):
so we got four hours for you coming through here.
Lots going on, Um, I want to start just finishing
up because I heard everybody talking about the Jets and
Jacksonville gave me yesterday, oh my goodness. And and actually
some people trying to defend Zach Wilson the experiments over
whatever you want to call it, the experiment, the number
one quarterback He's thought. I I just if I'm a
(10:07):
Juds fan. I was just sick over the moment trying
to watch him as my playoffs hopes went right out
the window. Martin, Um, it was just a putrid performance
by the offense. They got the three points on what
on the turnover to start the game, but it was
it was ugly performance every which way around. He had
to be replaced. He shouldn't even be back out on
the field. That the offense looks horrible. They're winning in
(10:30):
spite of him, not because of him. It was just
it was just bad yesterday. You know. You know, Arnie,
you know the holidays are coming up, as you know,
and this is obviously a time that people are spending
all this time with your family. And I think that
Thursday night and in the New York and in the
quarterback situation from Zach Wilson, the lesson I have from
that parents discipline your kids early. Okay, I understand that
(10:56):
it's hard. I don't have any kids, right, I don't
have any kids, so I don't know, but but I
understand that it may be difficult. You're tired, and you
don't want to tell the kid, no, you can't have
another coke, No, stop running in the house. No you
can't throw the ball, no, no no. And I get
that can be annoying, and your kid's gonna fight you,
and your kid's gonna argue with you. But here's the thing.
(11:17):
If you don't do that, they grow up to be
spoiled little brats, all right. Then you're gonna they grow
up to be bigger little brats, all right, And you
gotta be careful with that because they might just go
up to be the quarterback of the New York Jets,
and that's what happened, And that's what happened here. You're
not telling me that the idea like that kids never
had to take accountability for anything in his life, and
(11:39):
that's part of the reason why you see up there
had like here's the deals, Arnie. He didn't get benched
because of his poor play, because if he had got
best for his poor play, you could have pulled any
of those You could have pulled him after any of
those starts. Then why did he get me at because
he got bets because he went in the postgame press
conference and say he didn't think that he let the
defense down. No, no, right, I understand that yesterday's game though,
(12:01):
he goes, but oh, yesterday's dame. He absolutely got best
because of his play. But it's also because you know
that if he go in there, he's not gonna tell
you any accountability for the way that he played. Like
people have been coming at Robert Sala for the way
that he's kind of handled this scenario, and I personally
think you can't really handle it much better when you
have a guy who has essentially been bestowed the crown, right, Nobody,
(12:26):
nobody questioned why the Jets were taking him at to
all for their entire lives. It was. It was Trevor
Lawrence and Justin Fields ranked as the number one and
number two prospects in that in that in that class,
and they looked like forty five minutes away from each
other in Georgia. Right, it was a whole time, and
all of a sudden, we're talking about Trey Lance. We're
talking about uh uh za, Zach Wilson, thank you. And
(12:49):
it just seems to me and it strikes me as
a guy who has never ever dealt with any type
of adversity and and the response that comes from that,
because I really think if he had on up there
and own the fact that he wasn't playing well his
entire time, they would have ran him out there and
kept it doing. He was the second overall pick. They're
heavily invested in making that thing work, but he made
(13:10):
it untenable. So the whole point what I'm saying is
parents discipline your kids. So I don't know the right
thing to say when they get in trouble. Now, even
if you didn't, let's just just the way he is
right now though. Um, even without the accountability and all
the stuff that you said, you gotta have a quarterback
rading higher than a five. You know what I mean,
He's he just played horrible. It's spiraled out of control
(13:31):
at this point. A matter of fact, if you were
going to go ahead and you know what you know
now he might not make some teams they wouldn't even
take him as a third quarterback. The way he looks
out there, he just looks so unsure. So even with
accountability and all that stuff, um or, is he just
in the wrong situation now, the judge, we're still a
five hundred team at seven and seven going into the
(13:51):
game yes day. But is he just in the wrong situation?
If you put him on Kansas City or something like that,
how how good would he be then? Or just maybe
he's not cut out to be a starter in the NFL?
How good is this guy? You know? Well, from what
I've never obviously played in the NFL, never walked in
the locker room. But from what I hear, they always
say the locker room knows. The locker room knows, And
(14:14):
that's a lot of times you gotta make a decision
because the rest of the locker room is saying, you
know what's going on here, like we're watching this guy
killing it practice when you saw the body language of
of Garrett Wilson's or even uh, the More kid requesting
a trade right in the second year, Like we look
at those moments and individual silos as like oh More
(14:37):
needs to grow up our Garrett Wilson can't show up
his quarterback or But ultimately a lot of it, I
feel like comes down to one of the persons here
is not holding up there into the bargain, and as
a result, everybody else here who's supremely talented is getting
frustrated because this is the lynchpin that makes all of
this stuff work. In terms of the situation, I don't
(14:57):
think that Mike lafloor is some is some genius. I
really don't. But when you watch Chris Traveler, who is
a Canadian football player come in here and have success
run in the where did that guy come from? This
guy call I go. This guy looks like gold. If
this guy could go ahead, at least look, he didn't
put any points on the board, but at least he
moved the team. I was a little ward. I was
(15:18):
pulling for Jacksonville as I'm adolphin fan, so um I
was a little worried that he was gonna go ahead
and get him in the end zone, you know. But
just okay, so you're talking about that, who is that guy? Okay,
you're looking at Mike White. Mike White is a backup
quarterback that we have all convinced ourselves might be able
to start in this league because he's just that much
better than Zach Wilson. Right, Like Mike White is not
he was you the right quarterbacks. He's in the in
(15:40):
the in the lower half of the league, right bottom,
fifth thirty at best, right my homes, he's not you
know what I'm saying, but the way, but they're talking
about him on the broadcast like, oh man, what's Mike
White's healthy? Like he's the savior. Well, because you're you're
comparing into Zach Wilson that the savior compared to the
Zacho to him, by the way, he's Martin White, some
(16:02):
arentie Span. You're in for the guys, Jason Smith and
his best friend Mike Harmen As we told you a

Arenie Spanier. Of course, before we get into the games,
you saw the big news earlier about Google YouTube. They're
gonna be getting the Sunday ticket. They're gonna spend about
(17:07):
two billion a year, uh for four years, so it's
gonna come out there about eight billions, which I don't
really care about the cash. It's a that's above my
pace scale to figure out how they're gonna make that
back in advertising, and I'm sure they are. There's accountant
figuring it out, a whole boatload of them. But my
thing is this, Martin. Um, and I'm a little bit
older than you. I don't care. I'll show my age
(17:28):
on this. But when I was younger, the big thing
to do when we were kids, when the TV Guide
came out. Yes, there was something called the TV Guide
and you'd have to get it. You'd open it up
and you'd find out what three games they were gonna
give you on that Sunday, two in the morning and
one in the afternoon, and that is it. You didn't
get any other game. You didn't get too many highlights
(17:50):
when they did cut ins, which was rare. You're like,
oh my goodness, what's happening in another game? Um? It
was completely different. Um. And then it is right now?
And how do you watch NFL football? Are you a
red zone type guy? Because they canceled uh, the Andrew
Siciliano red Zone Direct TV one, So it's just gonna
(18:12):
be Scott Hanson. I love Andrew and I love Scott
Hanson also both employed by the NFL network. And we'll
get to that a little bit. But how do you
watch your Are you a Sunday ticket guy? Do you
just watch one game? Do you put two TVs? You see?
Are Andy? Here's the deal? You know you got a
few years on me, but I am still I was
(18:33):
making a joke about this earlier. I am sort of
an eighties baby, born in eighty nine. So while you
grew up and you had the two games one on,
you know, one on, you know, the the two games
there and in one game in the afternoon, I also
had one game or two games in the morning or whatever.
Whoever whoever the Saints played, they would stand alone right
(18:53):
where they played at one o'clock eastern or four o'clock.
They stand alone normally always one o'clock as they stunk, right,
So that was Dandal, and we have two in the
afternoon and then well here's the thing. When I was
a kid, my favorite TV show was the NFL Prime
Time right okay, which is a concept that does not
no longer exist due to the red zone that you
(19:14):
just talked about. But me and my dad was set
up and watch Chris Berman and Tom Jackson go through
go around the league, and that was what we man. I.
I used to record n NFL Prime Time for BCR.
But before that there was Tom Brookshire and I can't
remember the other guy that would go ahead and show
you highlights of all the games and then for a
(19:34):
different half hour they would just highlighting one game. Um,
and that was a big thing. Then you know the HBO, Yeah,
see that that would see that's even before me, NFL
Prime Time was my spot. So now what I do
is I am I have been a Sicilia I mean,
I'm sorry, Hanson red Zone supporter. Uh, that's that's my
personal at the red Zone that I picked. Even even
(19:55):
still even prior to I know a lot of guys
that worked on the direct TV when in sicilian a personally,
so no shade to them. I just you know, seven
hours after you're watching literally seven hours of one thing,
you're probably gonna gravitate to one or the other. Right, So, um,
I would watch. So my current setup is I'll have
Red Zone on the big screen, and then under the
big screen, I have two smaller screens in which I'm
(20:17):
picking the games that I want to watch, um, you know,
specifically those that game. So last week, last week I
was super big on the Eagles and the Bears. I
thought the Bears had a chance to upset them. I
watched every snap right, I had that one on one TV,
had another one o'clock on another TV, and then red
zone up the top to keep it involved with everything.
(20:38):
So that's kind of I'm a three TV guy, and
I think that is the optimal way to go. Four
TVs feels like a little too much. That is too much.
Now I have two big TVs. I have the red
zone on one UM and then the you know whatever
game I want to watch on the other one out there,
and and that that's about it. You know. Sometimes I
feel like the red zone a little overwhelming because you're
you're bouncing around all the time, but there's no their
(21:00):
way to watch it. Yeah, I mean, I couldn't go
back to just watching one game and then moving the
red zone to the other channel. You know, I have
to have that constant action UM to see who's scoring
and what's going on. And by the way, sorry to
cut you off there, but I hear that, and don't
hold me to this. We're gonna be able to customize
our TV where we're gonna pick be able to pick
(21:22):
like four games like picture and Picture and picture and picture,
and the screen is gonna cut four different ways, and
you'll be able to pick the four games you're gonna
want to watch, and and you want to pick the
two games you want on top and two games you
want on bottom and stuff like that, you know, I mean,
and And the thing is, while I think that's a positive,
I think the the the I think that we probably
(21:43):
underrate the direction of Red Zone. I mean direction as
in like from director to direct, like you know, let's
go to this game to this game, to this game
to this game, and having either handsOn or formerly Siciliano
filling you in on the back how we got to
where we are in the game. I think think that's
something that people if you're gonna try to miss Red
Zone for this, I think you will miss that the
(22:06):
kind of the because I think that we underrate red
show Red Zone as a television program. You know what
I'm saying. There's the TV program aspect of it, and
I'm a TV producer by trade, so I'm kind of
nerdy in that regard. But the rhythm of it. And
it's because I agree with you once, I don't need
to after like you know, let's say kicks off at
one o'clock. After about three o'clock. I don't need another
(22:30):
quad box. And wherever I'm good, I'm good. We can fly,
we can switch back and forth where we need to go.
But I don't need to see five teams at one
time because everybody's in the red zone, like staggering and
show me and tell me the story. Yeah, And by
the way, they do a good job. I think they
do a great job showing you the big play though
leading up to the score, and we don't have to
what got him in the red let's say, let's show
you the big play that got him down there. So
(22:51):
I think they do a pretty decent job on on
doing stuff like that. Martin. I like the I like
if I like both of them, I like Andrew and
I like Scott Hands. I think they both do a
phenomenal job. But so one thing, Ernie, I know were
this is my last point on it. I know, I said,
there's too many spread out football like you know, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday.
One of the things that I think football has figured out,
(23:11):
and I think the NBA had it for a second
when they were in the bubble, that one o'clock window
on Sunday is is is a very captivating time, and
especially when you have the red zone, you're able to
kind of have that chaotic moment of everybody's doing everything
and if you're a Dolphins fan, this is happening, but
you're also interested in what the Bills are doing, so
that you you got a hye on that too. And
(23:31):
then the Patriots just did something weird with the Raiders,
so you got an eye on that to all around
this red zone whip around that. You know, I think
the NBA had it in the bubble for a second
where you're watching all these teams play in a regular basis.
But I think that is one benefit that the NFL
has that I would be scared of losing. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific
(23:54):
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio Whip.
All right, so let's start, go ahead and get into
the NFL contenders or pretenders. We're gonna get into the
games next hour. Start taking a look at week sixteen. Um,
no doubt about that, because you know, I keep forgetting.
We got the full slate on Saturday and then three
games on Sunday on Christmas. But pretenders or contenders? I
(24:16):
want to start with my Miami Dolphins, the rate and six.
They've lost three in a row, had a good game
last week against Buffalo in the snow on the road.
Now obviously they're back, so a little bit against the wall.
They got the Green Bay Packers coming in. They gotta
make sure they at least make the playoffs first. But
are they pretenders? Are contenders? Because I'll tell you, I
think with two and not offense, they could scare a
(24:37):
lot of teams. It's the defense. Are they going to
show up? But are they pretend there's are contenders? Martin Areney,
I gotta go, I gotta go. Pretenders. You talk about
the offense, and while superbly explosive, I do not take
a dollar away from that. I'm left wondering sometimes if
Michael McDaniel and I saw all the pictures and I
heard the stories about you know, his mom and how
they met the Shanahan family in Denver and so on,
(24:59):
so I know it's really he really is truly of
the Shanahan tree. But when you watch some of these
games in the second half, I'm like running the damn ball, Michael,
like Kyle Shanna. You ain't never had to convince him
to run the ball ever in his life, right, I mean,
the guy went to the Super Bowl. I had to
starting quarterback complete less than thirty passes, right, so throughout
(25:19):
the playoff run for whatever reason, you know, because I
tried to. Uh. The Dolphins I think have lost two
of their last three games because if their either unwillingness
or just I'm gonna go with unwillingness because it doesn't
They're they're averaging rush per our yards per carry, I
mean against the Charges are averaging five yards to carry.
(25:40):
I don't understand how you lose a football game in
which you average five yards to carry. Now, the charge
of the way where the Chargers were playing better football,
their backs were against the wall Um Buffalow. Was a
tough game. It could have went either way out there,
and hey, it's tough to win in San Francisco. San
Francisco has got one of the best defenses I've seen
in years. I mean, they're there's certainly stout. So I
give him. I give him to San Francisco loss. I'll
(26:02):
talk that I personally have San Francisco. I think they're
the best team in football and I think that San
Francisco defense is maybe the best unit of all the
units in football. But the thing that concerns me about
the last two games, especially for the Dolphins, I think
if they had ran the ball more try to shorten
the game up, they would have split at least and
I think they could have really beaten Buffalo had they
(26:25):
ran the ball. I thought that Mike McDaniel might have
learned his lesson quote unquote after the Chargers game, and
it just I don't know if you saw this clip
that went out on social media, one of the Mike
up moments. He said, Mike McDaniel, he was, he was
on the sideline, he's talking up to the booth and
he says, you know, I think I'm gonna throw the
ball on every every play this drive. And it feels
like it's almost like since then they have not ran
(26:47):
the ball with the factive is because if you average
five yards to carry, just keep running the ball. You're
getting the first down every other time you can lose.
I don't know if you know this, but the Dolphins
have a pretty good passing game that it's true. I
don't know why you I'm not so true. I gonna
be running the ball, and I've got somebody called Tyreek Hill.
If I get him the ball, you never know when
he's gonna go eighty yards or seventy five yards for
a touchdown battle. I think I want to throw the
(27:09):
ball too. Well, I hear you, but aren'tie At the
same point, this is part of the reason why you know,
I kind of laugh about it. But is he a
Shanahan guy? Because Tyreek Hill would have gotten the ball
all types of different ways that if he was playing
in San Francisco. Just look at it the way a
Deebo Samuel when Christie McCaffrey gets the ball. You know
what I'm saying, how many different little touch passes that
Patrick mahomes hafter Tyreek Hill that we're essentially running plays, right,
(27:32):
So I'm not saying don't get the ball in the
hands of your best players, but I think there's something
to the fact. I mean two was three for seventeen
in the first half two weeks ago. All right, let's
go ahead, Nick, you so you say, Miami or pretenders,
let's get the Cincinnati now. At the beginning of the year,
they started off slow. But we know that Super Bowls
are not one in September. I think they were owing
two and I got up to maybe a one in
three start. Then they started picking it up. Uh, there
(27:54):
are three seed right now, and they'll probably end up
being a three seed. Let's think it's Kansas City. I mean,
you ever know there. It's possible they could even get
the number ones. He's doing one game by Buffalo and
and the in Kansas City and that fact. But are
the Cincinnati Bengals? Are they back on track? We we
we underestimated a big time last year. Are we doing
the same thing again this year? What do you think
(28:16):
about the Bengals? Up? Pretenders are candendals? I think the
thing that we got to realize about the Bengals is
that Joe Burrow is a different is a difference maker.
And we're sitting here. We talk about guys like TOA,
we talk about guys like Josh Allen, you talk about
Justin Herbert. Joe Burrow has been sacked more than damn
or any of them. I mean, went into a playoff
(28:36):
game guy sacked nine times, didn't blink right like and I,
And he has one at every level that he's been
able to play at. Right he got beat out by
Dwayne Haskins may he rest in peace, goes down to
l s U. Two years championship, he goes to Cincinnati,
gets hurt in his first year, two years boom in
the Super Bowl. Like, I get it that he's not
(28:57):
as flashy as some of these guys. I get that,
but I think it's under We gotta be looking at
this Cincinnati team especially serious, because hey, that you saw
they had the ability to go on a run and
be they got the guy behind center. That to me
is and I know people want to do to the
Brady comparison, but it's really just because you measure them
(29:18):
off the intangibles, and that's what you look at. He's
not the fastiest, at his biggest arm or whatever. You know,
it's hard to it's hard to quantify what makes him
successful outside of the fact that he is who he is. However,
I mean, Joe Burrow is supremely successful throughout here. They
got a great defensive coordinator in and Amma Runson who's
got them defense playing like one of the best in
the a f C. Yeah, the Bengals are real, bro.
(29:40):
That's that's gonna be a great race, Well, not a
great race, a great playoff in the a f C.
Let's you're gonna say they're contentded. Let's move to the
next team. Curious to see what you think about. How
about them Cowboys? The Dallas Cowboys? Um? And which one
are we going to get? A team that loves to
Jacksonville or a team that's looked like the team that
put him on this tenant four paths? They're not gonna
(30:01):
catch Philadelphia, we know that. Um. What are they probably
gonna be? What like a three seed when it's all
said and done. Is Dak Prescott a quarterback that's going
to have no problems when the playoffs come around and
able to go ahead? And I take that back, They'll
probably be a number five seed at this point right now?
Are the Cowboys because they're not going to win the division? Um?
(30:22):
Is Dak Prescott enough to lead them? Ezekiel Elliott? But
they're going with the dual threat with Pollard? Do they
have enough receiving there? And what about their defense which
is starting to pick it up? Cowboys pretenders or contenders?
The Cowboys have the potential to be contenders. However, right
now are pretenders? Now? I know? Come on, now, come on,
(30:45):
I'm gonna tell you something. I know I'm talking about
both sides of my mouth, right, But here's the deal.
The Cowboys are are are They are the nets almost
of the football right. If they're stars don't play well,
they no shot right now. If their stars play well,
they're one of the better teams in the league. They're
one of the better teams in the NFL. Is not tough.
(31:08):
We're talking Philadelphia, San Francisco, and then what maybe maybe Minnesota,
Maybe the Cowboys. I mean, they're right there, But I
will tell you that I think Minnesota is a pretender
to I think it's a two team racing the NFC
between the Eagles and the forty Niners. Uh. When you
really look at these, to me, all these other rosters
have flaws in them. If you look at the Cowboys,
if Michael Parsons is not getting home and wrecking and
(31:29):
wrecking shop, then this suppose that is on target, and
supposed Mike is wrecking havoc out there, then what are
you saying? Well, you know, if it was a fifth
then we all be drunk. I would say, hell, yeah,
the Cowboys will be contenders. But out of the last
seven years of Dak Prescott, what have you seen it's
been something. He's ripped it for a month and then
he stunk up to joint for a month. You know what.
(31:50):
The inconces he He is a top level quarterback, no
doubt about it. And Jerry, you gotta pay them, but
that is a little inconsistent when it comes to some
of these moments. So I kind of lean on that
and the boom and bust at a defense for the
cowboys right there yelling in my ear, you gotta break.
You know what, I may go the whole show of
commercial Free. Don't push me. I'll do what I want.
(32:10):
By the way, he's Martin Wye, some Marny Spanier and
for the guy Jason Smith and his best friend Mike
Carmen will come back more on pretenders or contenders and
you can get it on Twitter also at Martin White.

Com studios, our one just flying on by. Happy Howidays
everybody out there. I know it's tight. I know it's
tough out there with the travel. I love up here
in the northeastern Vermont. So if you weren't able to
(32:52):
get to your destination, you have to go back home
where you're stuck somewhere. Just hopefully we keep your company
throughout the night. We're talking about pretenders and contenders. Uh
we move on to the Minnesota Vikings. You were just
talking about them. You mentioned they were frauds. I know,
I know what are the minus s wad I heard
that until the cows come home their minus one? What
(33:13):
the plus minus differential? And everybody's making a big deal
about that. Um, some people think that this is the
worst uh what eleven and three team in the history
of football. For crying out loud, they've got serious offense,
they've got a serious pass the game. People don't believe
in cousins. They just uh just think he's gonna falter
(33:34):
or throw the bad pick somewhere along the line. Defense,
you've really got to scratch your head. Pretend, by the way,
there plus two right now, pretender or contender for the
Minnesota Vikings, I have to go pretender, But I'm not
as far south on these guys as everybody else is.
The defense really is an issue, and Kirk Cousins is
gonna be who he is and that is either an
(33:55):
indictment or a compliment depending on how you look at it,
but he is going to be exactly who he is,
no more, no less. Um. Do I think that this
team could win his Super Bowl? Not really, But again,
like I told you, I really only think two teams
in the NFC can that I would track right now,
which means that there's a possibility, because they mean one
of those teams gets upset, you never know what happens
after that. It's not that tough in the NFC like
(34:18):
it's in the a f C though, sure, but I
mean so, but I think when you look at the
wild cards of the NFC, it's like, all right, well,
the Giants ain't gonna win those super Bowl. You know,
there's the Seahawks or whoever makes it out of that
is like, they're not gonna make no super Bowl. So
ultimately it's kind of tough to see the contender pretender,
But all do I think of the Vikings is one
of the best teams in the league. I'd have them
(34:39):
in the top ten, but not top five. Like, I
think they're a good team, and I do think that
winning one score games is more of a skill than
people give you credit for. Alright, let's go to the Philadelphiagas.
I'm not gonna ask if they pretender contender. Obviously they're
a contender out there. My question to you is people
treat UM like they're the worst third teen in one
team in the history of football. They've won five games
in a row. Jalen Hurts is out. How long are
(35:01):
you going to keep him out? Do you go ahead
and keep him out until UM? Once you get the
number one seed locked up? Do you're not rushing back?
Do you wait till the playoffs? Um and VOI did
a lot of people on the restimate this guy. How
strong are they? How much better are they than the
San Francisco forty Niners. I actually think the forty Niners
are the better team than the Eaguals defense because of
(35:22):
the defense. The defense is solid. You're not going brock
Purty over Jalen Hurts though you Well, no, But here's
the deal. I wasn't on Trey Lance because I was
in on the system. I was in on the forty
Niners and their ability. Like I just told you a
couple of minutes ago they had Jimmy Garoppolo really holding
the ball the entire postseason. Do you completed twenty seven passes,
went to the Super Bowl? So I like the way
(35:45):
that Kyle Shanahan kind of manages his quarterbacks. Now, brock
Purty is a is a different a different animal. But
I still am high on the forty Niners. I think
Jalen Hurts while playing at the MVP level this year
is not the m v P, but I I think
ultimate the fort defense is better. Eagles offense probably more
explosive than the forty Niners. It doesn't seem like you're
(36:06):
buying into the Eagles at all, though, whether it was
the forty Niners or not, it seems like you're comfortable
with excuse why you don't want to take the Eagles
this year, well, because a lot of it had to
do with, you know, I just didn't know how long
that we're seeing this whole rugby play, the whole third
and one, fourth and one, and like, how long is
that going to last forever, I think, right, I love
that play. Well, the thing is you're you're doing it
(36:26):
with your starting quarterback and he ended up getting piled
on by a whole bunch of guys and then he's
getting pushed in the back. And that's not the type
of play that Jalen Hurts got hurt on. I'm not
trying to be revisionist history or anything like that, but
I just felt like they're putting him at a ton
of risk and by doing that, um and so it
was kind of I I didn't think it'd be able
to sustain it, even though he didn't get hurt in
the way that I kind of thought he would being out.
(36:47):
Does that make him musty when he comes back or
does it make it better because he really has to
rest that shoulder. I think it makes him better. I
think it makes it better. A guy like a guy
like Hurts his mentality, he'll be ready to play. He
wants to play now. I think he'll be good to
go these when it's his time, as long as he's healthy. Alright,
our one just full on by. It's in the books
for crying out loud. We're gonna come back. Started taking
(37:07):
a look at Weed sixteen and that starts tomorrow. Full
slate of games coming up tomorrow, and then we got
three on Christmas. If you want to get in at
