Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio. Ah,
you hear the name. You know? It's a party here
on a Wednesday night. Here Fox Sports Radio Comedy for
the tire Act dot Com Studios Mike Carmen alongside the
Stinking genius himself. It is Artie Spaniard. Good to have

(00:44):
you back in. I did make contact with Smith. He
is in the middle of the Redwood forest. Oh man.
I told him to be where the cabin in the woods.
I don't know to do people? Yeah, exactly? Do people
still go ahead in vacation there? I didn't know. I
knew that was a vacation destination. I will say this,
it was better than him deciding he was going to Detroit,
as he's done many holiday now then, And that's you know,

(01:08):
not to try to rub it in the faces of
those that have been stuck in travel hell, because my
thoughts are with you all. What a miserable experience this
entire week. Man, Can you believe that that is? That's crazy?
Everybody just getting stranded. And you know what's really insane
is all the luggage that is lined up from terminal

(01:30):
determinal airport the airport. How are you supposed to find
your luggage? There's no way, um you're gonna be able
to get reunited with all that luggage. I just you know,
the segue into our world here at Fox Sports Radio
is perfect then, because what also is to stop someone
from walking into the terminal, deciding he likes the suitcase
and walking off with it. And I'm not encouraging that.

(01:51):
And but but I look, I traveled out of town
last week. You and Mr Plank gracious to h spot
us a couple of days. And I know Jason was
in a little bit before taking his sojourn. But the
travel God smiled on me, and the rest of my
life in two has been an up and down mess.
But the travel God smiled on my daughters and ey

(02:14):
as we went to see my folks and go hang
out in Florida a few days, which is great, but
waiting at the baggage carousel at L a X. And
I've had mostly good experiences in l a X. So
I'm not gonna do the story that most do of
what a horror show it is or whatever, because that
has not been my experience, as with a couple of
other airlines, not necessarily the one that's in the most
troubled this week in class action lawsuits are getting ready,

(02:37):
government is is getting ready to do their big investigations.
But like I've had my share of luck. I don't
travel a ton, and I've been fortunate, and I leave
it at that. And I also recognized that it's better
to wait an extra hour at an airport for the
metal tube to get me across country in five hours
as opposed to sitting with my family, friends, dog and

(02:58):
everything else in traffic sixty hours. So next time you
all complain about an airline delay of an hour or two,
obviously this has agreed. But if it's a short delay,
get over it. You gotta fight out of those small
airports too, man. You gotta go. You can't be going
like l a X or or stuff like that these times,
or Phoenix or or Vegas. You gotta try out to
fight out of the smaller airports, and and and and

(03:21):
try to maneuver around it. It's too tough nowadays. Always
had that backup plan of a car already rented and
take it to the eleven tower and cancel it when
you realize you won't need it, because that's been another thing.
But I tie it to our world ear of Fox
Sports Radio because one of the things that has become
a Christmas holiday holiday holiday tradition are the bags that
you send our our people here at Fox Sports Radio.

(03:43):
You and your wife take take time and send some
of Vermont's best and some great sundry items to to
lift the spirits and say thanks to your crew. All Right,
we talked about our technical producers, are update anchors and
news men and women. We talk about our doucers. I
got nothing, but but it's the host and like I

(04:07):
get Frostberg's cheese popcorn. But that's that's what gets me here,
is that the bags are all there, and Frostberg I
knew i'd see him, but the tradition is it shows
up and he's he's got some allergies. So the stuff
that I know that there's an allergy, it's it's mine. Uh.
And then the rest of the bag is secured. Problem
is I didn't get in early enough, evidently after the

(04:28):
arrival of said bags to really secure the bag, because
some of our dirt bag colleagues here at Fox Sports
Radio decided to help themselves to the glorious meat stick.
We we I can't pull call them dirt bags. We
we put the we put the syrup in there, that
had the glitter, and that's a good that's a good
look because you can do all sorts of stuff like that. Yeah,

(04:51):
I don't I think it is what you think. I
think you'll enough. You can't. Don't joke with this. Yeah,
you'll find out trying to give me a flush knock Brice,
aren't you. So we we sent that, We sent the
popcorn which was which is made from a company out here.
And last year we sent the meat sticks and everybody

(05:12):
was talking about how they loved them. Um, you know,
so many people made a comment about it. So I
told my wife, get the meat sticks. We gotta put
it in this year. So we put like three of
them in each bag. We said, like, I think it
was forty bags to you guys, and you told me
there's forty bags and I got nothing. I don't even
qualify as the top forty. It's like Casey, Casey would

(05:33):
have at least put me in the coutdown. You were
number forty one, number one in your heart, no doubt.
But but all the meat sticks were taken out of
all forty bags. Is not what you're toing. I'm saying, Frostbergs,
I have no idea about the rest of them, nor
do I I do. I was worried about my guy
because I took care of to make sure that we
we thought we're putting it away so it was safe,

(05:56):
and instead they gone, oh yeah, you gone, Sarnie. Let
me tell you that last year somebody took the bosses president,
I said, the passa president, and somebody just took the
boxing and went home with it. Here. Yeah, there's zero shame.
I'm I'm shocked. I can't believe it. But you've worked
in radio a long time, aren'ty? Are you really that surprised? Yes,

(06:18):
you want to take from a coworker, Okay, I can
understand that you want to take from another host. I
can understand that, but the boss you gotta take the
bosses president. I don't know if I can have the
guts to do that. You know, you roll the dice, hope,
hope that the video cameras aren't working, or that you've
got folks that are down the hallway that are complicit.
I don't know. As we come to alive from these

(06:41):
tirac dot com studios. Tirac dot com, we'll help you
get there and unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers tract dot
com the way tire buying should be. Sometimes just stumble
into greatness. Last night we celebrated the really ridiculous efforts

(07:01):
of Luca don Chet's and we watched the collapse of
the New York Knicks. Now I was nice about it
because Jason wasn't here. Otherwise, both he and Frostburg or
Frostburg and I would have probably taken baseball batch to
him for four hours. But because he wasn't here, we
took the positive side. We said, it's the holiday season,
let's talk about the greatness of Luca well tonight. You know,
paying attention to college bowl games is one of the

(07:24):
things I talked about with Plank. It's you know, it's
not as as appointment viewing as it once was. And
and maybe I'm old in my attention span is fleeting,
as if I've reverted to being a teenager. But the
idea that you've got Bowl games two here too, there,
one there, and you know a lot of six and
six teams, which is one we had tonight that I

(07:44):
stumbled upon the Arkansas Kansas game, which ended up being
a thriller. Arkansas thirteen and a half. Like this game's
over shuffle around, Lakers are showing a little fight against
the heat. We got to get into the I I
know your your former classmate, high school friend, whatever was

(08:05):
in the news, and I know you're all for climped
and you want to sing baby come Back or something.
But which is a whole weird thing, because I don't
think your wife will appreciate it, But you have Kansas
comes back on a tear seven seven d there. You know,
third quarter they play even, but in the fourth quarter,
all of a sudden with a minute six seconds left,

(08:26):
it's just like the Dallas Mavericks uh and Luka don
Chet to roll up on the Knicks yesterday and what
the Clippers did two nights ago, and then we get
triple overtime that included a targeting call that was amazing.
I thought the game was over at that, like, oh,
they're gonna call targeting and give them another shot at
and of course they did. They get the two pointers,

(08:47):
but they did the bluesing after that. That was a
fun game. But you know, before you make a big
deal about it, it's just amazing because you know, you're like, oh,
this is great, and everybody was talking about it on Twitter.
So I'm not just saying it's you, but this is
the equivalent of like an NFL preseason game. There's no
value here. It's pretty much an exhibition. It doesn't count
in the standing, doesn't count in the conference, standing, doesn't

(09:08):
count as a win loss in the regular season. It's
just pretty much two teams, uh that, uh six and
six coming in And for the most part, nobody was
really paying attention to this game. So, yes, it was fun,
it was entertaining, but it had no value in it.
It's like eating fried food. Um, it tastes good, but
it's got no nutritional value, you know, and maybe long

(09:29):
term you paid for it. I don't know. I paid
for it here. But when we we look at this
and unlike the meat sticks, that never arrives. So I
don't have those calories of either his prospery. But but
for Sam Pittman, you know your coach, he for Arkansas,
he gets a w right, as he said in his
post game interview, goes, well, I don't know what it
really means on a grand scale, thinking about the year

(09:50):
that we had some ups and downs, but we're one
of thirty four teams that goes out with a win. Well, congratulations.
Is that why we're playing ballgames? But we keep playing
Congratulations we we've gone with that extra win. I'm not
it gives They're over five hundred for the year. He's
now one back to back Bowl games. If I took
a hundred calls asking people Arkansas's record, it would take

(10:10):
ninety for the And that's why we don't do that
because that's boring as radio a list of everybody's top
five Arkansas players of all time. Darren McFadden, man, let's go. No,
It's that's why we don't do it, because on a
national scale, we recognize what they are. But to those
schools to their respective conferences. They're still keeping scores, still

(10:34):
recruiting to be done, right. I mean, you went and
had a bowl game that ended up. I don't like
the penalty shootout phase. Yeah, I say, you keep playing
until you can't play anymore. White flag. I'm okay with it,
especially especially, but it's just entertainment value. Nothing real at
stake here. You know. It's kind of like when the
World Cup does the shootout. But I'm I'm okay with it.

(10:56):
It speeds it up, and you know, we're a triple
overtime by now, so I want to keep it going
a little bit. Yeah, Jayalen Daniels yards five touchdowns? Good
or what? Wow? It's fun to watch him work. Man.
The targeting thing will be debated. That was on him,
That was on Daniel. Yeah. I mean, well he kind
of got stood up and then dude came and launched

(11:17):
himself and thought it was fairly textbook. The review did
not take that long. Uh, And you know, it took
a while to get him off the field because he
was ejected. It seemed like everybody forgot that part of
the rule, which which which I feel bad because it
wasn't like he was going out of his way to
you know, a heard him or so. I think it's
the end of the game. You're trying to make a play,
you're trying to win the game for your team. Um,

(11:38):
and you know that's what happens you get called for
a penalty like that. I don't think he went any
malicious intent was there? As my point, Well, unfortunately the
intense really not the in this case you had Daniels
had started to go down and he did lead with
his head. Whether he would have caught him in the
sternum if he stood straight up and just knocked him

(11:59):
down there doesn't matter in the end. Uh. And then
he airmailed the two point conversion anyway, which he played
brilliant football to that point. And then be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, keeping
an eye on different games here. Oregon scores to make

(12:19):
a close middle now of the fourth quarter in North Carolina,
busted off a big return, but their penalty flags on
the field and we went through the first hour in
about fifteen minutes or so. We'll bring on Jason Cole
and this will be one of the topics. Already your
quarterback to a tongue of valoa. They finally admit that
he's gone into concussion protocol. Everybody's done the subpreuterer film

(12:42):
and found this is the play. This has gotta be
it because look at his stats after this moment with
two forty left in the half and everything thereafter he
does a dump off pass gets twisted turn. You guys
have all seen it on social media on your sports
television over the last twenty four hours, so we we
know that that is the case. And everybody's got to

(13:05):
discuss all of the different processes and and there's a lot,
right It's a very nuanced conversation. Plank and I did
some of it last night. We will extend it today
because we've got new audio from coach McDaniel. The whole
idea of taking day to day is kind of rough
on coaches who have to plan for you know, a
bunch of people. So the approach that unequivocally taken today.

(13:28):
You know, I was on the phone. I met with
him yesterday, I met with Teddy yesterday. I was exchanging
ideas and and talking through some stuff all the way
until like ten fifteen. Last night, Um, there was his bedtime,
and so moving forward today and you know the whole
team's approaches. Uh, Teddy Bridgewater is the starter. So you've

(13:48):
got two games left at New England and then home
versus the Jets. Teddy two gloves takes the reins and
we've seen him have success and in periods go back
to his time in in New Orleans and then this
year trying to figure out the topsy turvy way of
how things went down with tow his injuries and and
him coming in and getting hurt himself and all of that.

(14:09):
We we know the timeline. We we know it all
at this point. You know, going back to the Derek
Carr conversation of last hour, Arenie, there's so many prongs
to this in terms of trying to to parse out
what the next steps ahead are, right, because for two
of the young men himself, right, he's got to look

(14:29):
in the mirror and look where everybody wants to to
be tough. You've worked hard for this position. You certainly
don't want to give it up or appear that you're
giving it up. So if he knew in the game
the other day that things weren't right, he decided to
play on and if he if he was fine, because
that's the other part we have. We have no idea
in the timeline of when he started feeling effects. We

(14:51):
just know that when he went to work on Monday
he was feeling ill effects and symptoms right between the game,
and then we have no idea what and transpired in
that eighteen hour period or whatever that time frame is.
So that's something for Tua in terms of everybody trying
to pass their decision making upon him. He needs to retire,

(15:12):
he needs to be shut down. Well that that extends
to a lot of other conversations that need to be had,
stuff that needs to be negotiated in the c B A.
Are we saying he should never play again? Right? Because
well right, because if we're I'm saying from a legislated hey,
don't play anymore. So now the idea of all, right,
he's had that many concussions and injuries and he's prone

(15:33):
to that he shouldn't be allowed to play again. Is
there a waiting period? Because if he passes the concussion
protocol and he's cleared to play, there's no guarantee that
the next play isn't an issue. There's no guarantee that
he doesn't play ten years with no issue. You have
no idea, right, there's no guarantee in any of this. Right.

(15:53):
It's like the Derek carrthing. Maybe you let you know,
you could allow him play in the next to two
games and he wouldn't have gotten hurt and triggered all
these other things. But we're talking about risk management, risk
assessment on all these different levels. With car they went
that way and decided Stidham is gonna be your guy,
like it or hate it. That's the way where we're
at for the final two weeks of the season. But

(16:14):
to a Dongue Valoa, everybody's stepping in and trying to
speak for him, protect him from himself, et ceteras. He's
a grown ass man. If he's wants to play, right,
if thirty two teams, I'll decide, hey, you know what,
we can't touch him. Then you start getting into well,
you know, is there a uh did someone order the
code read from league offices? Do you go back into

(16:36):
the c B A And now there's gonna be rules
about if you have and are diagnosed with X amount
of concussions or miss x amount of time you're disqualified
for the rest of the year, and has that become
cumulative like you do when you find guys for illegal
hits and whatever else. I mean that that's kind of
where we're going into this territory, and it extends into

(16:57):
the Dolphins decisions of just the business of TWA and
the franchise going forward, because look, if he was suffering
ill effects and tried to play through, well, he did
a detriment to the team, to his teammates, put them
in a bad spot. And not only just from the
playoff perspective, but when you've got a guy who's not
able to work through the process. I just thought he

(17:19):
had a bad half. I thought Terry Bradshaw said it
really well, uh in the in the post game. And
remember everything you always hear on the radio when it
comes to financial services or whatever. What's the final line,
aren't past performance is not indicative of future returns? Right, So,
however well they've done in the past, there's no guarantee
in it's gonna work out that well. Likewise, if Tua

(17:41):
hasn't turned the ball over a ton, that's great. Doesn't
mean that on any given Sunday he doesn't throw three
balls directly to the opponent, which is what he did.
Bradshaw's analysis was short guy, They weren't throwing deep balls.
He tried to hit short and intermediate routes and missed
that there was another defender there. I thought it worked
as pretty good analysis, and now everybody makes it. He's like, wow,

(18:01):
he clearly wasn't right because of like, no, that's not
a hunt. You can't do that one to one correlation.
Guys can have a bad game and be erratic. They
could have a bad game and be erratic, but you
can tell that there was something wrong with him because
they were bad interceptions. They were thrown right to the guy.
But that's beside the point. First thing I wanted to
get to is what you said, Um, there's only one

(18:21):
right answer. The only person that should be making this
decision if he's cleared, is to uh. Um. It's no
different that if you broke your arm and one doctor
said you need surgery, one doctor said you need rest,
one doctor said you need a cast. Well, now you
have to educate yourself and you get to make the
decision which doctor A You're gonna go with one, two

(18:42):
or three A, B or C. And that's strictly up
to you. It's not up to me to say no, no, no, Mike,
I can't do that. You gotta have the surgery. You
educate yourself, You listen to what each doctor's got to
tell you. If the doctor's clear, then he sits down
with his family if he wants to. Ultimately, he makes
the decision. He knows what's at risk here. His job
maybe at risk here. And I know people like, well,
your health is never you know, worth the risk and

(19:04):
all that stuff. You know what, there's a lot of
people that have gone on and uh and and risk
their health and played heard out there. You know, when
we talked about Ronny a lot, that story about him
cutting his figure off so he could play. We talked about, wow,
look at what a man. That's crazy. Um, now we
think about it, it's insane, right, But there's a lot
of guys and they get held up as the standard

(19:25):
for why we need to be careful and the long
term health effects whatever. It's. It's like my dad smoked
for a long time right from he worked for the
police force, and you know, stress management, all of those
kind of things you did, uh, and eventually he had
throat cancer. They were able to clear it first time, great,

(19:47):
second time tracheotomy. But you tell him in all honesty
and that there's there's still that impulse that he would
like a smoke every now. It would kill him, but
he would like it. Likewise, there's a lot of x
NFL players that will tell you I know the risk.
We all know the risk. I was twelve years old.
I knew it was not a good idea to butt
heads with guys with regularity. Right, It doesn't take a rocket.

(20:10):
I didn't need all the science that we have now.
I thought it was pretty elemental. If I keep banging
my head against guys, bad things are gonna happen. So
it would learn to try to not do that and
protect yourself and change the way you're tackling, change the
way you're engaging, etcetera. It doesn't mean you're gonna be
a you know, flawless in that execution, but you give

(20:32):
yourself the best chance. And if you're gonna play contact sports,
and this goes for anything. Because we only get CTE
reports about football players, I'd love to see soccer players
and hockey players and guys that work construction, guys that
are on half pipes right as snowboarders, guys that do skateboarding,
all those other things. Let's see some reports out of them.

(20:54):
Where are they at? Where is the general populace for
just falling down when you're trying to take down your
Christmas lights? I only say that in half ingest, but
like we were quick to put out, it's the way,
you know. I'm just saying, it's a violent game. You
can't legislate all of it out. And if he decides

(21:19):
to keep trying to play, then that is his prerogative.
Now it goes down to the Dolphins side of the
equation and thirty one other franchises that would go into
the same decision making process of is the risk of
what you've seen from a health perspective, durability, whatever you
want to talk about with with to a tongue of
by loa, that you decide you want to put him

(21:40):
back on the field, or do you go to what's
behind door number two, which means draft a quarterback, bring
another quarterback on in free agency. That's where we're at
in this process, Arnie. As as we look forward with
to a tongue of by loa, with the Dolphins, you're
talking about multibillion dollar franchise and who's the face and
who makes everything run the quarter back. So that's the

(22:01):
decision point. We're at that interrorection point at this point
of as much as he might do a lot of
what you want for your offense to move, if you're
Mike McDaniel, you may also look as an organization and
wondering with all you've invested, with all of that's on
the line that you need to move forward. And again,
nothing's promised, no players or promised nobody. We we had

(22:24):
years and years when we only have six or seven
guys actually get through sixteen games in the NFL, it
was the two Mannings, Philip Rivers and then usually Tom Brady,
so there's four and then round out the other guys, No,
and and you know, and just the thing finishing up
about to um. You know again, you're right, if he's
fighting for his job, or he thinks he's fighting for
his career, he has all the right to go ahead said, ay,

(22:46):
I'm cleared, I want to go out there. He's not cleared,
So we don't have to go ahead and get into that.
But the Dolphins gonna have to make a decision. You
bring up Tom Brady, that could be another wayning shot
from Brady. It could be Vegas, or it could be Miami. Well,
and think about that when the timing route kind of
saying situation. If you can get that offensive line rowing rowing,
and you got Mostard and Wilson in the backfield, you
can think of a lot worse places to be kisicky

(23:09):
with those two speedsters on the outside. Yeah, there's a
lot of fun to be had in that offense, no question.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
Radio app Got Up Now. Author of seven books, joins
is each and every week on the Hotline. You know
the voice, you know the snark. He fits in with

(23:30):
the show, oh so well. He's a Pro Football Hall
of Fame voter writer over at out Kick. You find
him on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two, and eventually
he will be down in some nice heaven's door whiskey.
Happy Christmas, Happy New Year. Jason Cole. How are you, buddy,
H I am fantastic. How are you guys doing? Dominating

(23:51):
on a wen say, I got Arnie with me, who's
all fired up because his quarterback and Smith questions, do
you have to ask questions about the No, But that's
just it. Smith, the absconded with what I mean, maybe
he stole the meat stads, he stole Zack Wilson's or actually, yeah,
he stole away to get away from Zach Wilson. I

(24:12):
think that's the case. And then and then Derek Carr
joined in the bandwagon. Basically, yes, really feel a little
bit bad for Derek Carr, Not much, but a little bit.
How how bad do you feel like We've been talking
about this and there's been a lot of handwringing for
Derek Carr nine years. And obviously Mark Davis makes the choice.
McDaniels is the guy Jared Stidham is gonna get two starts?

(24:34):
Does he get traded He's got no trade cause he
get traded or cut when this is all said done, well,
he probably gets cut because he's had to cooperate with
them and he's not. I would doubt at this point
in time that car would cooperate. Um, but he has
a very tradeable contract. I mean, because there's not much

(24:57):
guaranteed money in the contract, so he has a little
bit of power here to get some greater guarantees in
the deal. But you know, it's always better to be
out on the market and have some choices and did
not and then not have the team that you're going
to play for have to give something up to get.
You can follow up here with Chris Ballard getting the

(25:19):
vote of confidence. Does he become the latest of the
red tread quarterbacks to go to Indianapolis? Probably? God, what
that's an ugly existence to be the next guy? Um,
he fits the suit man, he's Johnny, he does he
is so Johnny Bravo. It's just unbelievable without the confidence

(25:42):
right now though, um yeah, just again, this is a
tough one because Derek Carr is the court. Is the
quarterback who's just good enough to get your beat. You
know that he's just not quite enough but somebody's but
he's good enough that somebody needs to have him. Basically

(26:04):
that's I just don't know this one's gonna play out.
And and like they did everything that could to ruin
his value, Like what's the point of playing Jared sent
him at this point? I mean, really, what are you
doing other than saying Derrick card's gone, and so I've
now played my hand out not forcing yourself. Yeah, well

(26:27):
I guess, but I mean again, the contract is not guaranteed,
so I can cut him. I don't know. Just to me,
it's like you either, h this is a Josh McDaniels thing,
and it's it's so Josh. It's it's it's so rings

(26:48):
of incompetence, which is just the radar way as a
as a football team. Like it's not getting something for
a guy who's has real value. It's like like you're
not going to get anything for him in trade at Yeah,
you know, I brought up that if you look at
the a f C. East, I mean, if the Tophins
want to move past two because of the concussions, they

(27:09):
may want a quarterback to Patriots. When we want to
maybe move past mac Jones to Jets, cultainly need a
quarterback just three in the different what is that? What
did there's a Derek Carr mac Jones like really especially
playing playing in cold weather, Derek Derek Carr a terrible
cold weather quarterback. The difference thing too, in car is
not all that great. Again, we're just talking about quarterbacks.

(27:32):
We're good enough to get you beat um and not
get you into the playoffs. Um, I mean there are
guys that. Okay, I gotta pay him because he's a
competent quarterback. But it's not I don't know that. Do
you really believe at this point in time, after after
nine years, Derek car is suddenly going to be a
guy who's leading a team into the Super Bowl? Staffords

(27:55):
online too, Do you want to take his call? Matthew,
I'll please. Aren't that? Well? That's as bad, that is
as bad as Smith, that the ranks with the worst
of Smith. No, I mean no, no, stop, stop, just stop. Okay, Matt,
Matt Stafford has you know, had a world class armed

(28:18):
Derek Card is not. Matt Stafford has thrown a lot
of interceptions. That's because he throws a lot of balls
downfield up for grabs, not because he's just like wings.
He wings it. Um, Matt Stafford, incredibly gifted player who
was almost beaten down by playing for Detroit. Okay, you know,

(28:39):
Derek Carr has spent nine years with the Raiders not
making them better, right, He's just been okay, Um, to me,
he's a derivation. And I've always said this, and it's
just It's as true today as it always has been.
He's a derivation of Alex Smith. He's, you know, good enough.
He can get you know, if you've got a really
good team around him, good coaches, he can get you

(29:02):
into the playoffs. Right. But that's about the best you're
gonna get. You're not getting a super Bowl winning quarterback
gets mixed, so many mistakes. Take Gold. Matt Stafford's really,
Matt Stafford, Hut, you're a professional. You're not not really?
I guess you're not. Just a provocateur. You know already

(29:27):
span your agent. Provocateur Gold with us here on the
hotline at gives Gold sixty two is where you find
him on Twitter. Go pick up a copy of l
Way or Relentless Life of Great Stories, and he's got
six other books that you can find. My next book
is a deep and dark dive into um looking Glass

(29:47):
and their one hit Wonder Brandy. I like that and
all the different covers I've spent today listening to covers
of Brandy don I like the red hot chili peppers.
And does it sound like everything else they've done? No,
it was different. So you know, they tried to sound

(30:08):
like looking Glass, which was very odd. So that's that,
so I digress, go ahead, well back to the program.
Was well, back to your regular scheduled programming. And I'll
do it for Arnie because it's his quarterback. He's a
Miami Dolphins guy. So to uh out for Week seventeen,
Teddy two gloves, take the reins, and now we have

(30:29):
all the handwringing and all of the conversation that we
had two months ago. Fast forward to the career decisions
of one to a tongue of violoa and what Miami does?
Did they work off him given what they've invested in
other pieces, not to mention the fact that it is
a multibillion dollar franchise. What what happens with him going forward?
Are we going to see a fight between the Players
Association and the league in in you know, making adjustments

(30:53):
to how concussions are legislated and what disqualifies you from playing?
Uh yeah, I mean there's always gonna be tweaking on
that rule, as there should be. But look overall the
rules working okay Again, I as I said another show
that I did, I don't see guys out there staggering

(31:13):
around it the way that they used to. Guys had
taken out of games for the most part, and you
know you're going to have some mistakes here and there,
but the mistakes are the exceptions, not the rule, right,
So that protocol is working generally to the benefit of
the players, in the benefit the league, okay, um and
the players Association. It's it's doing okay, But you'll always

(31:36):
you'll always examine it. The bigger question that with two
is do you ever think he's going to get a
whole lot better than he is now? Is he ever
going to be an improvisational guy who can playoff script,
Because the one thing that you saw last week and
that brutal loss, is that when things got difficult and

(31:56):
he had to improvise a little bit, he's just, you know,
the game moved too fast for him. That last interception,
I mean, that's a simple high low throw as you
can make. You know, you're supposed to make the the
underneath throw if the guy's open and the guy was open,
or you're supposed to throw the ball highing away to
the outside and put to either go out of bounds

(32:18):
or your guy, the guy who's you know, on the
high side of that one, makes a catch right the
last place the ball is supposed to go is between
those two guys, like it's either under or way over
the top, and he threw it in between the two guys.
It was inexplicable throw unless he was already suffering from

(32:42):
from some kind of cognitive just you know, disorientation. But
it was a bad, bad play. And the and the
previous two interceptions were bad interceptions, Soup, but that was
an awful interception, and so to me, and they don't
have a first round pick this year, and and so
they need to find a way to move on and

(33:04):
to you know, to try and pump up his value
and get something for him. Um. But they're also trapped
in that they got Tyreek Hill, and they've got Wattle
and all these other players. They're trying to compete now
and trying to win now. I don't think it's ever
gonna happen to us. You know, they're they're they're stuck

(33:24):
the way you know, Brandy was stuck waiting for the
guy to come back from the seat. That's nicely done.
That is that is what you call a professional tie in. Exactly.
He just doesn't come on for the good looks and
swipes at Smith and Spaniard. Uh so, do we ever
see two on the field again for Miami or for
that to that level, they're probably they're probably stuck in

(33:45):
that they have to keep him this year, unless, of course,
you know, you go to the Derek Carthon, which is
again not a whole lot better, or there's somebody else
who's available that you like a little bit better. But
I mean, I think they're they're betwixt in between. And
this is a really tough situation for for the Dolphins,

(34:08):
which means he probably ends up staying there because he's
just good. It's like the old thing. He's just good
enough to get your beat. You can try that whole
thing again. I mean, yeah, they tried it last year.
I mean, I guess that's still sort of in the cards.

(34:28):
But you know, I just don't know Brady's mindset. You know,
after everything that he's gone through, is he gonna want
to go to a new team. And if he wants
to go to a new team, does he go to
a team like the Dolphins, or does he go to
you know, and deals with the fact that he's gonna
be in the same city with his ex wife, And
is that a good thing? Because he's near his kids,

(34:49):
or it's a bad thing because he's got to deal
with you know, all the talk about that, where does
he go out to San Francisco? If you if you
leave Tampa. I think that if he plays, he's gonna
play in Tampa. But does he go to another team
somewhere else? And if and if I'm him, I'm picking
the best ready made contender. And to me, that's the

(35:15):
last one, real quick, Jacole, the who had the better week?
The Broncos getting rid of Hackett after Patrick Starr called
the Russell Wilson interception on Nickelodeon or the Raiders was brilliant.
That was so brilliant. That was Patrick Starr calling that game.
That was awesome. You can't get any better. So, you know,

(35:36):
in terms of the UNFC West, now now you got
the Chargers and Frostberg's team just looking so much better.
They're they're looking awesome. So who was the second? What
was there? Know, it was more just the who had
the better week? The the Raiders because they move on
from Derek Garr or the Broncos because they finally uh
you know, fix the glitch and Nathaniel The Broncos had

(36:01):
a better week because you know, Russell Wilson asked to
face the fact that he got somebody fired. Um, and
it's this one's really truly. I like that there's nobody
left to blame except for Russell, and so Russell can't
sit there and say, oh, I was poorly coached anymore.

(36:21):
So the Broncos probably got the better end of that.
And now Russell Wilson is going to have to face
somebody who is going to tell him this is how
it's going to have to be, if there's anybody capable.
I just think that, like Frostburg, the only the only
problem that Frostburg has with what just happened here is
it um it probably ruins the chances of getting Sean

(36:46):
Payton and being good for the next ten years. Yes,
it's engine to deal with Brandon's Staley. So that's you know,
making the playoffs is great, But you wanted Sean Payton.
Didn't you really want Sean Payton? Asked us all have him?
He can't. He works for the team. He can't say that.
So but I'll say it's not dead yet about that, No, exactly. Yeah,

(37:11):
we get to bring back the Monty Python skit. Ja
Cole happy New Year buddy. Your whiskey should find you
in the next day or two.
