(00:23):
Smith Show with Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio. I'm
not even supposed to be here today. Greetings and welcome
inside the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike
Carmen and this sometimes attending producer Justin Frostburg and the
always building grunts and playing Halo and getting his atom

(00:48):
a podcast Rady. Hello, that's a throwback. Who the hell
plays well? I mean sometimes you don't have the moneyed
upgrade your games. Yeah, that's good with what you got
and try to master at some more. People don't play
Halo anymore? Yeah, but you could play Wow? What is that?
What you mean is that people with no money? Ok? Okay, okay,

(01:10):
I think I think we understood that. The definitional stuff.
I just figured Halo was something that, like ty Shirt
could play on an app that you know at this
point you could just do it anywhere. From dragons Layer
all those years ago was such an elusive game and
now just together there like Legend of Zelda. I don't understand.
How do I get past the first screen? I don't understand.

(01:32):
I can't. I can't get past the first screen. This
is awful. We're live from the ti iraq dot com
studios tirac dot com. We'll help you get there. An
unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection, over
ten thousand recommended installers ti iraq dot com. The way
tire buying should be well Tonight, it's a big night.
We're looking forward to the big final week of the

(01:53):
National Football League regular season. We got bold predictions for
Week A team, we got upset specials, we got everything.
But right now, hold on a second, stop me if
you heard this one before. The Knicks had an insurmountable
lead in the last thirty seconds and they could be
about to blow it. I mean, I we haven't heard
that for a while, but I just want to make
sure we throw that out there now because it could

(02:15):
actually happen. I think You're really using the term a
while quite liberally there, because you were just on vacation
a week ago when I got to watch Luca donte
to do great things, and that was the whole thing.
What was my joke? It was the dripping with sarcasm
we haven't seen in a while. It just happened a
couple of weeks and it was the whole thing. No, no, no,
I well, I just wanted to remind folks that you

(02:37):
you were conveniently out of town when that tobacco went down,
because I was nice because you weren't here to take
your abuse. He focused on the Luca side of it
instead of mocking the Knicks. I mean, we took a
couple of pot shots, but overall, I mean because Frostburg
was taking his sojourn trying to coax the Chargers into
the playoffs. So you know, the other guys didn't quite

(02:58):
understand the anger, angst, in vitriol, or the celebratory nature
of such a collapse that they should have been able
to dance in the hallways, you know, like when Kobe
scored sixty that time and people were dancing around like
are we gonna get that highlight? Nope? Guy, because our
editors are dancing in the hallways, literally jumping up and down,
so we'll have to recreated ourselves. Hey, guys, I think

(03:18):
Luca just scored on the Knicks again. Just remember what
it's always about the Knicks, even when it's not about
it's about the Knicks. If the Knicks blow a lead,
it's it doesn't it doesn't matter if Wilt comes back
and his plan Wilt scot sixty. I can't believe the
Knicks blew that lead. Oh my god, they will come
all the way back. Look at that. It's it's about
the Knicks. That's about the Knicks. I'll tell you what

(03:40):
if Will pulls that off. I mean you're talking about
coming all the way back? Good lord? Yeah, well, let's look.
I had to get Wilton because we had the streak
now at two because we mentioned Conan the Destroyer last night,
which Will was in. So we gotta get Wilton two
nights and how it comes what you got from? What
if I were to tell you the Raptors just hit
a five pointer for the wind did ice do ice

(04:07):
Cube hit a three and he got fouled and they
felt bad. We still We're just give him two more
shots so they can win the game. Speaking of the
next real quick, I mean Tom Tiboeau, he's gotta let
that hair go. He's just gotta let that go. The
camb over is just no, you gotta let that go. Man,
clinging for dear life. Man. Maybe it's what's keeping the
knicks float here. Now we just we just finished off

(04:28):
the whin, We just beat the raptors. Maybe he feels
like that hair is keeping us. You know, four games
over five for them, So did you really win? It
doesn't coinci plate for them years on a day to
day basis. I mean, we're all clinging to the things
that we hold dear that make us happy in an

(04:48):
off chaotic and truly world. Maybe for Tom Thibodeau, being
able to still run his fingers through what's left of
his hair in a tense situation in the fourth quarter
is what calm him and brings him back and does
allow him to get ground. So, you know, why would
you want to deprive the guy that then we got
enough ball guys that have decided you just to finish

(05:09):
the job. But this is he's just stage five clinger.
It's okay, it's okay. It's Okay, it's got like three
hairs frown. No, no, you know, you know what every
time you're saying I think of Bill Murray from Kingpin
when he's about to bull. He just pulls all the
hair over from what the but earn the craft hair

(05:32):
though he did, but he still pulls. I mean it
was all the way. I mean, that's my favorite part
of Kingpin when he just pulls all that hair over
because he's so stressed out. Before you pulls that hair over, uh,
Twitter and out about a fresca, Mike gets swollen down,
the Jason Smith who with Mike Carmen Live and the
tirect dot com studios. Yes, the Knicks win, they may
never lose again. But a part of all of this

(05:56):
day we have the big day, look huge day for
Damar Hamlin. The guy is off off his his tube
now and he's breathing on his own. He FaceTime the
Bills today during practice just and you know, you talk
about an uplifting ending to a really difficult week, and
you know it looks like he's just getting better and
better every single day, and and and now you feel

(06:18):
good about the NFL, You feel good about the fans
who supported him, and you feel good about the doctors
and his teammates and everything else. And and a week
that started so awfully and it was all the NFL,
and how do you deal with this now? With him
getting better every day, We've seen a lot of the
good that the NFL can do over the course of
the last few days, and just it's continued, you know,
onward and upward for Tamar Hamlin and like keep sending

(06:41):
those thoughts in that karma to that to that hospital
for him. Man, I'm telling you what a great, what
what a positive, uplifting ending to the week for him. Yeah,
and you see all the different things the NFL is
they sent a memo out because everything needs to be
in a memo and allowed right being in a league
that will still find you if your socks are too
low or you wear the pregame spikes just a little

(07:01):
bit too long. But the different decals and things that
they were able to do on the logo, you know,
show their solidarity and support. So, uh, good news. I
saw the reports this morning. Uh, for what the one
I saw was from Shams of all people, That's the
one that hit my timeline when I opened it up
this morning, Like all right, the basketball guys not creeping

(07:23):
in here. Here we go. But it's the positive news
wherever it came from. Just excited to see that. Communicating
with the teammates, you know that all the excitement you
know of the Bills players just saying, hey, we were
hearing from our brother. How huge is this? Uh? And
we know we we've been chronicling it all week. You know,
probably a bit of an exhale from Tee Higgins. He's

(07:46):
been commenting a little bit. But remember he stayed in
the hospital a couple of days, like that's how shook
he was off of that. So hopefully a little more
relief for him and his teammates who have obviously been
concerned about him. So they they get back to work
a little bit and some semblance of more normalcy. And
it's all about you know, degrees. At this point, we

(08:09):
could talk about how complicated other banks make it to
a deem credit card rewards, or we could talk about
how with Discovery you can redeem you rewards for cash
and any amount of anytime. I mean talk about amazing
learn more at discovered dot com. Slash redeem rewards terms
they do apply. So with all the NFL stuff we
have going on. We have a big baseball headline that
broke a couple of hours ago. The Dodgers have officially

(08:29):
cut ties with Trevor Bauer. He is put on He
was d f aid, which means he was designated for assignment.
Likely he's going to pass through and become a free agent. Bower,
of course, had been suspended, getting an unprecedented suspension following
allegations of sexual assault. It was a very big story. Obviously,
remember over the course of the last couple of years,

(08:51):
Bower is likely going to be on able for someone
to sign him. He says, he looks fun stop. No
one is signing this guy. No, he says, look forward
to continue. I wouldn't categorically say that not gonna not
know what no one's gonna He's he's too nuclear, Mike,
he is too nuclear. He had a big suspension that
gets cut down here. He is too nuclear for someone

(09:13):
to sign him. And and here's what teams are gonna
think of. And this is why I would look at
this this way, is that he is someone who during
this story, no matter which side you're on, we have
the story of the woman who said, listen, this was
consensual and it got really rough. The sex got really rough,
and he says it was consensual. He has never shown

(09:34):
remorse at all for any of this. He has never said, listen,
it got out of hand, and I feel so I
feel bad about this. It's been hey. His his defense
at the beginning has been, this was consensual. And you
see the marks on her and and and the marks
and the bruises and what her face looked like. And
I I get that. Okay, you're talking about consensual. But
two things. One is I could tell you, hey, hit

(09:57):
me in the face, hit me in the face, hit
me in the face, and take my car, take my car,
take my car, take my car. Hit me in the face,
take my car, give me in the face, and take
my car. Guess what the police are still gonna be
able to say, you hit a guy in the face
and took his car. But he said it was okay. No,
you still did it. So there's that part of it
that it was okay. Just because this was consensual doesn't
mean something really wrong didn't happen. But what it is

(10:19):
for me, and this should be the game for everybody,
is that no matter what with Trevor Bauer, he's still
someone that could do that to a woman, right, and
that's and that's you can't get around that. He's still
someone that can do that to that admitted that's what
he did, and and and his his defense was, hey,
it was consentual, and that was the the entire time

(10:40):
it went for Trevor Bauer. He's still someone that can
do that to woman. And that should be game over
for the rest of the teams. It's game over for me.
I don't know who else says, Okay, we want to
get back in the Trevor Bauer business. That's gonna be
a really tough thing. The guys sat out for a
long time that you know, everybody has seen this, this
this play out the way it is. I really find
it difficult to see it. Find a team that's gonna say, hey,

(11:02):
we we think you can come and play for us,
and here's a contract to come back and pitch right away. Yeah,
And it's look not not something that as soon as
he clears waivers that I would expect a contract to
be signed. But due diligence and as the Dodgers put
out in their release, you know, here's all the investigations.
Bowers put up his reply and has has been, as

(11:26):
you said, you know, reticent and unwilling to cop to
any level of um guilt in terms of it being criminal.
Over line to your point about consensual. Folks do a
lot of things behind closed doors that you or whomever

(11:47):
might say that's above my my threshold. And again it's
it becomes an optics thing, right. I don't know what
happened between that. That's too two adults, and it went
through the process, and he's at this point he's free
to pitch. So in a society of uh, you know,
second chances usually come with some level of contrition or punishment.

(12:09):
He's got the punishment side to where he was away
from the game. And so you look in the clubhouse
and a lot of reports that he was a guy
that was not exactly on the inner circle of the Dodgers,
and and eat with despite reports and what he tried
to put out of hey it was good and look
forward to getting back to work, and then later on

(12:31):
the release that it wasn't a guy that was embraced
and part of an you know, inner circle. There by
any stretch, I don't think that's too far to go
as we talk here this evening, But as you pull
team to team, there's going to be some squad and
you could probably guess a few that are pitching pitching

(12:55):
deficient that might be willing to take him on at
at a low contract. Know. Here, here's where I just
Here's where I why I disagree is that you compare
what went on in the NFL to Deshaun Watson, and
I can understand the desperation of the Browns because a
quarterback is we have to find a way. And Deshaun
Watson was a top five quarterback and they decided, screw

(13:17):
all the optics, screw everything else, We're gonna go give
him two thirty million dollars guaranteed. You know, I I disagreed.
I didn't want to see him back in the league,
but I get the desperation from the Browns to say,
we don't have a quarterback and we need that. If
we're gonna go play and we're gonna win, we need that.
It's it's so it's so hard. Trevor Bauer is not
that special. I mean, he's he's he's a great picture,

(13:38):
but he's not that special that teams are gonna risk
everything to go get him. To bring a guy into
the clubhouse that the Dodgers didn't nobody wanted him around.
How do you bring him in? How do you welcome?
How does he become part of the team? How does
he not be something that distracts everybody? He's not that special, right,
He's a great he's a he's a terrific picture. But
is he that way? We we gotta upset the apple

(13:59):
cart to go at him. I don't see it at least,
But that's the thing for Watson. I don't see it
for for Trevor Bauer. But then to hold out it's
like when we we do the the entirety, hey compare
him to all the all time grades. Well, the Dodgers,
as far as organizations goes there, they're one of the benchmarks. Right,
there's twenty nine other teams and whatever level of desperation

(14:25):
flows off of that. Right, So the fact that the
Dodgers with their veteran leadership and a clubhouse and a
machine that rolls up new prospects, and as much as
you wanted Bauer when you signed him, you're you're able
to move on, pay off the money and and let
go there. There's other teams that could use a guy

(14:48):
who would project as what a third starter on a
lot of a lot of rosters if you inserted them
into But is he worth that? Is it worth a
third starter? Is it is that worth it for him
to be a third starter? No? No, But my point
you're you're assuming there's going to be mass outrage and
and everything else with Deshaun Watson was it was fairly
quiet when he came back. I mean, if you're gonna

(15:10):
go from the barometers of things, right, there was a
lot of anger and angston and what's gonna happen when
this guy gets back on the field. It wasn't gonna happen.
Nobody's gonna talk about him. And that's what happened. How
much was there any Was there any national conversation about
Deshaun Watson all when he came back? No, there was none.
There was no looking ahead to him returning. What does
this mean? I told you everybody would just gonna you

(15:32):
know what, We're just gonna back away. There's other things
to talk about, right, And that's why Deshaun Watson wasn't
somebody because there's other things. There's there's other things to
talk about. He became a non story for the for
the bulk of the season. Now, would it have been
more if the Browns were in contention, Probably a little
bit more, But overall his story was just yeah, he's back,
removing on these other things to say, yeah, I fully
think if if they were a good team that and

(15:55):
that there was still the anger. It's a lot of
time for that to dissipate before he he hit the field.
We got we're angry about a lot of things in
this country, right, I mean, look how quickly people got
mad again. We got we're having our you know, I'd
like to buy the world a coke moment in Kumbaya
for forty eight hours with Tamar Hamlin, and as soon
as the lead came out of how the NFL was

(16:16):
gonna solve thing, we were back like it was. I
don't pick your worst of people of late the last
twenty four hours. If you go through timelines, uh and
some of the thought pieces that are out there for
Deshaw Watson, part of it was he came back and
he stunk, so they stayed irrelevant, so there wasn't a
need to to point and go ha ha like Nelson

(16:38):
months again, more sibstance, but just the the idea for
Trevor Bauer to just categorically say it doesn't happen. I
don't I guess I don't trust that. Twenty nine teams
all look at him and say, you know, this is,
you know, not something that we can do. Categorically, there's
gonna be an internal discussions, I think when out of doubt,

(17:00):
and then you go to your clubhouse leaders and and
one by one you may fall fall away. But as
they say, it only takes one. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio AP harm Yeah,
I saw today. Oh, the Mets may not get Carlos Korea.

(17:22):
They're a little upset with him. He's talking to another team.
The Twins are back involved. You know, I don't care.
We'll just go get somebody else. We'll just go by
else if we don't get it, not not that guy, no, no, no,
We'll go buy whatever else we need. It's okay. Oh,
we I look at it this way. Hey, if we
have him, great, If not, we save three thirty million

(17:43):
dollars and we can go spread it around to other people.
It's all good. It's a fair point. I mean, look,
it means you're gonna have to work that much harder
to get to that billion dollars spent because you're really
kind of creeping towards that was at two. But he
did make uh an estimated one point seven billion a
year ago, so plenty of money to be spent. Did

(18:03):
he pay taxes? Mike, um, I haven't seen how much
he wrote off, because look, there's tax rates should be
versus you know what you're able to write off, and
and depreciation and all of those fun things. Some fuzzy
math as we talk about in accounting to get yourself
down to what your real tax rate is, and certainly

(18:26):
from a corporation perspective, can always hide it into the
other other moneys. I mean, he's gonna learn from the
other baseball owners really fast. That's what they've been doing
for years, right, They got all this money from TV,
yet they claimed they're in the red. How does this work?
I'm just say, RUS might want to look into it. Now.
They're fine. I R S is fine. Just like you're

(18:49):
saving all your money for Otani, Okay, I know that's
what you're doing. You're saving all your money for Otani
next year. That's what the dot. That could only be
why the Dodgers are just sitting everything out. Now we're
not getting anybody. And you know how much shorter it's
gonna take you to get into Angel Stadium without Yeah,
that's true. We'll be will try right onto the field.
There's a car in center field. Oh no, it's it's

(19:10):
it's Jason's car. Yeah, that's fine, that's fine. Yeah, just listen,
just try not to run into it. Mike Trout, Okay,
just trying to make that catch somehow. I know it's
not perfect, but you know, hey, we gotta let people
park somewhere if they're coming to the game. Now we
don't have Otani anymore. But even before Otani, I mean
they still drew. Now it's squaestion of Mike Trout and
his long term viability. But then they'll they'll find one guy.

(19:31):
It's just a matter of putting a team together that matters.
That's the thing. They always have a guy that you
gotta like, and you have a location whereby you have
tons and tons of people from across the globe coming
to visit just down the road, and so including a
home game as a break in the action is not
a hard thing to do. Walking through that door again,

(19:55):
find we're gonna start talking about eighties videos like we
did nineties yesterday. Then if you're gonna bring up Chuck Finley,
so let's en so what wait? Will wait? If they
get Carl's corea great, If they don't, it doesn't matter
who else is out there, though, there's nobody out there
who get Hey, we're gonna you know what, it's funny

(20:17):
you bring up Justin Turner. You want to talk about
a guy who took his right sweet ass time of
putting out his statement thanks. Hey, here's all the talking Bier.
Screw that, you know what? The grom statement of thanks
came faster than that. No, no, no, I mean look,
the the timing here was just impeccable. Talking about Bauer

(20:38):
and going away and getting released and the team saying no,
nobody said you're coming back. We did your courtesy and
we talked, so you know, you can talk about that,
and he said, uh. Team said kind of thing. Uh,
And Justin Turner puts his notice out gut you know,
it was really great to be part of an organization,
and he name checks everybody down through the years, Sandy

(21:01):
co Fax and Vince go and then names a bunch
of his Dodger teammates over the last decade, goes all
the way through, I'm gonna miss l A. We've done
a lot of good work. I've met a lot of
good people, like all of those things, and basically said,
you know, let's put the focus work where it should
be on the good the good guys that helped lead
this organization for a long time. I love you all.

(21:22):
We'll see you later. So the news dumped by the
MLB get trumped by Justin Turner doing one on his own.
So more when when when the Mets make that decision?
Will will fit? When when the Mets game they might
have a mystery player. Yeah, there could Like the White
Sox are the mystery team. They could be. They need
to be America's mystery team again to try to get
this happen with Core. But I'm in a much better

(21:44):
mood today when I look at my sports future than
I was a couple of days ago. Right, Because you
think you think the drama is over and this this
is like the end of the horror movie when you
think Jason is dead and you step over and the
first person to step over his body is fine. And
the second person steps over his body. No, no, beer,
he is, He's up. He's grabbing you. Because just when

(22:04):
you thought all the drama was over and the Jets
and Zach Wilson would go into the off season, okay,
Zack stinks. No, no, no, no, no, we get new
drama today. As Mike White has been ruled out of
the season finale against the Dolphins and Dolphins still have
big time playoff hopes. They're starting Skyler Thompson because they

(22:25):
have no choice because Teddy Bridgewater is banged up in
to a tongue of la still the concussion situation. So
now it's gonna be Skyler Thompson against Joe Flacco's not
going to be Zack Wilson to play for the jetska team.
The Jets have decided to go with Joe Flacco. Why well,
listen to head coach Robert salom zack Um again, for

(22:49):
it's more, you know, give Joe this opportunity, but also
with Zach, I'm gonna do you call a coach's decision.
I want to stay firm with him and make sure
that he gets to attack the so offseason, and uh,
I just want to get him to the off season
so we can start and attack the plan that we've
been building. Uh. Putting him out there right now, I
just don't. Uh, it's not gonna do him any good.

(23:10):
So I can to do anyone any good uh for him.
For Zach, it's all about attack the plan we're building,
which means a new quarterback we're attacking. When I started
singing was under attack. When when I heard this today,
I knew, Okay, all my my nervousness about the Jets
are gonna run it back with Zach Wilson and they're
gonna go get Jimmy Garoppolo. No, no, that this is

(23:33):
just lip service. And Robert Salo only knows one speed
when it comes to his players. I'm going to defend
them all the way to the end. Right. He doesn't
know how to nuance things. Yet it's always my players
are great. I have their backs all the time. Because
if you don't go to Zach Wilson now, the season
is over, Mike White can't play. If you're serious about
making Zach Wilson a better quarterback, what's why don't you

(23:55):
give him another game? Why don't you get him out
there and get him more reps to so we can
get another full game playing quarterback. Why would you not
put him out there because you can't. You can't put
them out there because the team will revolt. And they
know we are moving on from Zack Wilson. We're not
going to be in the Zack Wilson business in the offseason.
He's lost the locker room, he has lost trust in

(24:16):
the coaches, and the bottom line is Robert Sala and
Joe Douglas are heading into a season where they gotta win, right,
they gotta win next year? Right? This is this was
last season was terrible, but it was the first year.
The first half of this year was great, the second
half was absolutely awful. So they know going to next year,
we gotta win and you're not. So you're really gonna
go into the off season going, I am gonna hedge

(24:37):
my bets from my job that Zack Wilson gets better. No,
of course, not the fact they're not putting him out
there when he can gain invaluable experience and instead we're
gonna let Joe Flacco start another game. This tells me
they have moved on everything from Robert sala is lip service,
and this is what we're gonna get now. The Jets
are gonna play this game moving to the off season

(24:57):
and figure out quarterback and they'll go. Now, go call,
make a phone call for Lamar Jackson. Now go make
a phone call for Kyler Murray or Justin Fields. Go
to make calls for those guys. Go get a big
time quarterback. Now, I see it's all lip service. It's
the only speed, solid nos. But not starting Zack Wilson.
That's huge. You know that he has no future, he's done,
and the Jets are moving on in the off season.

(25:18):
It seemed like it could have been a nice opportunity
to say, hey, the Dolphins still have something to play for,
So Zach, go show me what you can do. See
if you can rally the team around you to make
this happen. And I think in the room, as La
Fleur kind of laid out right earlier this week, they
blame everybody else but me. Uh situation is that he's

(25:39):
not that guy and he's not ready, which is why
they are going to do everything they can to attack
this offseason with a ferocity unseen. Oh wait, that's the
Jim Harbaugh speech. About attacking things with a ferocity foreseen
and and unseen in the history of the National Football League.
You know, for because right, the Dolphins lose, and right

(26:04):
they need to beat the Jets and the Bills to
beat the Patriots to get to the playoffs. Right, so
you still have that chance. You still have the opportunity
to play spoiler. I would he just said that, you know, Zach,
we've got the long term plan, but right now, Joe
Flacco gives us the best chance to blank over the Dolphins.
How about that? I mean, I mean it would have
been the tough talk that you've gotten used to him

(26:25):
trying to be Instead, he's trying to couch his opinion
of the quarterback of the president and future by saying,
here's the placeholder, Joe Flacco getting to be elite one
more time. Joe's done everything he's done this year for us,
and he's been a good, good, uh third guy and mentor.
So we thought we'd let him get beat up in

(26:46):
the finale. I mean, well, there's a million ways you
can couch this instead of we're attacking. Three is not
over yet. This game may not have meeting to your
playoff lives, but you still have an opportunity to to
spin it that that there's a value to this game,
and he failed to do that any level. Uh. Look,

(27:09):
but here's what I what I what I fear for Sunday,
right this is this is my thing for Sunday because
I feel better, right know? Okay, Now I know the
Jets aren't gonna be in the Zack well. They they
have to win next year, they know. But I know
what's gonna happen, because this is how it's gonna go
for the Jets. Something's gonna happen on Sunday, and Zach
Wilson is going to get in the game because he's
the second string quarterback this week. He's gonna get in

(27:30):
the game and he's gonna make a horrendous player two.
And I can see, I can see it happening like
like I can like I can see the computer in
front of me. He's gonna get in the game. He's
gonna play horribly and it's going to be And this
would be a fitting ending for Zach Wilson and the
Jets if this is how it goes, some kind of
play where he can lead him on a game winning

(27:51):
drive but he gets sacked in the ball pops up
in the air and one of the defensive lineman takes
it and runs for a touchdown. At just some kind
of embarrassing thing is gonna happen. That's gonna see him
in the game, and it's gonna be the exclamation point
on the end of the season. I just know that's
how it's going to end, you know, Jason, to that end,
it's a more egregious thing to make him the backup

(28:12):
as opposed to just deactivating him altogether. Right, if he's
not ready and you're gonna attack uhe to give him
a damn clipboard and a hat and tell him he's
inactive and and he shouldn't see the field. Oh, he's
gonna see the field, right, But I mean there should
be no no way. Yeah, but I thought that was

(28:34):
for next year. I thought that was the long time
on you know, he's gonna be in this game Sunday.
You're really kind of questioning the mobility and wherewithal and
ability Joe Flacco to stay up. Right, he was elite
like thirty years ago. Come, I know that was that
was a minute ago. That's that's the joke, Jason. We've
had this story correct the whole time. And I say

(28:55):
when I say we, I mean like me and Mike.
He's your guy, he's your QB one. Just get used
to it. Go put er in the car. He's not
He's QB two. This week he'll get on the field somehow,
and yes, and then we'll move on. And then we're
gonna get your not moving on? Have you not listen

(29:16):
to anything? Robert Sale has said he may have a
damn tattoo of him. Now I'm happier because I know
there's gonna be a new quarterback, there's gonna be a
new sheriff and tat It's all good. Jet's Country. Let's Cry,

bit of evidence. Is all you need to know today.
The Jets are moving on from Zack Wilson. Flacco over Zack, Jason,
you dreamed about Zach Wilson last night. He's not going anywhere.
Don't put it out in the universe. Don't put that
out in the universe, because the Jets have made the

(30:47):
College Football News dot com, one stop shopping for college football,
longtime college football insider who may and I may be
breaking news here on the show. He may be leaving
College Football News Dot on to coach Michigan. If Jim
harbought Jumps to the NFL. Pete few Tech, congratulations, I
heard your name mentioned and I'm glad it is well

(31:07):
deserved for you, my friend. So I'll take that gig.
I I can do. I can coach as well as
he did in a college football playoffs in my final,
I just I listened, here's my platform, No Philly Special
there that I'm gonna start with that. And I will
convince my defense to not opt out after halftime. So
I think I can do those two things that I

(31:28):
think I have the gig, Pete, Pete, we had you
after No Philly Special, that's you had. You had the
gig after that, you're like slatching that commercial. Dude, you're
in all right, you're in screwed it up, you know.
I mean, look, God bless your heart, tc you and
and look, I actually hope they kind of pull this off.
It would be a fun thing for TCU too, you know,
to really upset the apple cart here and you know,

(31:51):
then do something really really crazy. But you know what,
the Michigan played as horrible as they possibly could. You
have the two picks six is they should have been
up twenty one to three had they realized, oh yeah,
maybe we should run the ball. Uh. And even then
they still almost pulled it all. They still scored thirty
nine points on TCU in the second half and probably

(32:14):
should have still had the ball after what should have
been a targeting call and and all that, and I
think that this is this has been great. I would
still pick Michigan again to win by fifteen more or
more if they played this game ten more times. But hey,
you got him and now they're here. Well, since we'll
have to do that in simulations on video games and

(32:35):
in our our webpisodes, pete uh is Jim Harbaugh there
to be on the sidelines if we were to do
the simulation or are we putting someone else in the
in the cap? Are they gonna pay him? I mean
this this kind of what gets lost is he as
we've talked about this before, he's the Minnesota Vikings check
coach if they don't low ball. So look at the

(32:56):
read the you know NFL room. Their NFL doesn't pay
coaches anymore, and they sure as shoot aren't given away.
Uh a lot of power in the general managership, like
all these guys are gonna want so, you know, go around.
You know there was a time when you know, but
you could easily name the average peck name, easily named
all thirty two head coaches, you know, without a problem. Now, Look,

(33:18):
I live in Chicago, Matt eber Flues could be sitting
on my couch here and I still wouldn't know who
he is. Like, they just don't want to pay the
guys to coach pro football. Now. Meanwhile, Lincoln Riley, who
very easily could have been should have been the Dallas
Cowboys head coaches getting paid as much or not, it's
not more to of at least some locked in money

(33:40):
to be the UFC head coach. And if you're at
Jim Harbaugh or Lincoln Riley or any of these top coaches,
you go on a three game wink streak and your
agent is going to figure out how to get these
weak minded athletic directors to extend your contract till with
all guaranteed money. So it's it's a sweet deal to
stick stick around. So Harbo does this. You know, he

(34:02):
likes to always look around, he likes to always entertained possibilities,
and then he comes back. So I would be kind
of shocked if he took over this gig, especially if
there's no real teeth in any sort of general manager
part of this. Right, But what would would this. You know, hey,
because we watch Pete Carroll just suddenly go I want
to go to the NFL. Oh, and here comes some
sanctions on USC. Uh. Could the fact that Michigan's being

(34:24):
investigated push that another direction? And Harbor actually does jump
to the NFL because they're buying a kid a hamburger.
Like I I know, there's a little more to it
than this, but really it's in an n I L world.
They're trying to get them on past and I'm really
using the word the air quotes here on radio past crimes.

(34:45):
It just I guess, I guess he's I don't doesn't
look like he's a Reggie Bush like situation. But come on,
it's Michigan should not be hammered for this, you know.
It's what's the lines like handing out you know, speeding
pit get that the Indianapolis if they're doing this now,
so it's it's it's kind of silly. But yeah, if
he do, if he actually does think that there are

(35:08):
going to be problems, then sure, then you get get
out and you go. And hey, if he if Jim Harbaugh,
who as is was a great NFL head coach, turns
into you know, has to run the Pete Carroll's head. Well, yeah,
go for it. Alright, let's go back to the championship game.
Then I were talking about two touchdowns spread TCU. I
mean we we saw Georgia plaud all the stops. There's

(35:30):
one of the greatest time outs in college football history.
We were thinking of putting up a poll question and
then we left it to the wayside, figuring, um, well,
maybe you guys would be we posting an all time
great there at college football News dot com. Well besides
Chris Webber's number one. But um, sorry, too soon. There
is that that's always there. And don't forget to include

(35:51):
the assistant coaches who were telling him to call it
time out standing next to him. But uh, as we
look at the game, like, what's it take for the upset? Right,
is Georgia that far ahead that you know we just say, hey,
tc use a fun story or is there a real
potential here? With the starting starting twenty two is good? Yeah,
the starting twy two is good enough. They showed against

(36:11):
Michigan that they can have the show. These explosive plays.
I mean Michigan, you know they hadn't they didn't get
have given up a thing all year for against the run.
I think the only three teams I think that might
have this a little while. But I think only three
teams got over a hundred yards rushing. And I think
the most anybody got on them was Ohio State and
it was only like a hundred forty something. And then

(36:33):
TCU went off. I mean, they you know, they met
the moment they you know, Michigan turtled early on. That
turned out to be enough and TCU seemed to have
what it was. And so they've got the twenty two
that they can hang around a little bit. Uh And
this is not the same Georgia defensive last year. They've
given up over eight hundred passing yards uh in the
last two games. This is not the you know, the

(36:56):
rocket that it was. Uh. So I do think TECU
is gonna be able to score a little bit and
maybe move the ball a little bit out. That's that's
about as much as I can do. They can't. I
keep going back to is at the first college football playoffs,
I was out there, uh in Pasadeno in Oregon, was
the most confident team you had ever seen. I mean,
to a man, they had the attitude. They're like We're

(37:19):
going to g against this Florida State team that nobody
really believes that. Everyone keeps, you know, thinking we're this
finesse team. And they too, again to a man, to
a coach, they were. They had everything there and they
went out and they crushed Florida State. Once they got
to Arlington, they looked scared. I mean it was like, okay,
now it's on. We got we were really here. Meanwhile,

(37:42):
how State was Zeke and all those guys were just
about as cool as could be. And you know, the
name drop here just you know, talking to urban Meyer
before that game and he after talking a little bit,
he's like, we got this. You know, you just kind
of tell that certain teams just have the talent, they've
got this thing, and they just think in this Georgia
is gonna be athodical again. I do think TCU scores

(38:02):
and hangs about a little bit. Become the third quarter.
I think all of a sudden, the lines take over
and then all of a sudden it's the Georgia coronation.
Well here's the thing here, here's where I give TCU
a little bit more of a chance is because yeah,
I can see where they can come into this game
and get scared. But I'm sure they have some they
have some fails. They said, hey, we're gonna have a
couple of trick plays, We're gonna run early, We're gonna

(38:23):
get into the game, get everybody into the game. All
the pressures on Georgia, right, the TCU was this is
a free money game. No one thought we'd be he
were here, all the pressures on Georgia, and Georgia isn't
the same team as last year. They we've kind of
waited for them to get into the mode of being
Georgia all year and it's like, well, when they needed to,
they were able to get by a little bit. Okay,

(38:44):
but this isn't the This isn't quite the same team
as last year that was so fast and so dominant
net you know, eleven starters on on defense in the
National Football League. It's not quite that team, Pete. There's
two ways to look at that. It's not quite that team.
Last year's team wasn't perfect. Last year team lost. You know,
this one hasn't. So they've they've kind of got that attitude.

(39:05):
They actually wanted to prove that they can actually have
a better record than this year's team. At least that's
what I've been told. But you're right. I mean, it's
it's not easy. I think it's what the two thousand eleven,
two thousand and twelve Alabama the last time You've got
to repeat before that you have to go back to,
you know, the Nebraska teams of the nineties. You know, Look,
it's hard. You know whether it was Miami you getst

(39:25):
the Ohio State. I'm gonna get my years wrong here,
but I think it was two thousand two or USC,
you know coming into the Vince Young game, or you
know Alabama and ninety two or on and on. It
was like time after time after time with the defending
national champion had a shot and all of a sudden
that they couldn't get done. The difference was the teams
that they lost to. We're a whole lot better than

(39:46):
this TCU team. Look again, I hope this is close,
and I think it would be great for college football
for TEC to win this. And is the fan of
mes is rooting for it actually, but they haven't seen
anything like this. And this includes Michigan book and we
talked about this before. Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and the
USC offense. There are three and a half teams in

(40:07):
college football that have the NFL talent. And that's why
when I came out and talked to you guys last time,
I said, Ohio State could pull this off and at
the very least cover they have the guys, they have
the NFL talent to hang within Ohio State TCU. Doesn't
you know, they just they It's one thing to be
able to beat Michigan when Michigan, Michigan did everything wrong.

(40:29):
They got a slew of bad breaks. They they came
up with a slew of their own bad breaks, and
then they still almost had it. I just don't see
Georgia making the same mistakes Michigan did. Yeah, I gotta
learn from Michigan letting themselves get punched in the face
repeatedly and then saying, all right, I'll engage in the fight. Now.
He's beat at college football. Probably probably not trying not

(40:54):
to score eighteen points on every forty downfield path. It's like,
just keep running it already on them, just keep pounding away.
It's because it was constantly got the two thousand ten
Rose bowling. We's got to play tie you and Brett
Bielma did figure out, Oh yeah, we have the number
one rushing offense in the country. He figured that out
was eight minutes to go. Okay, it's a little late here, son,

(41:18):
but yeah, yeah, it's every I mean I hear it
near by. But every Michigan person I know, everyone who
was planning on going to l A all these different
bands were just like, what was that? Like, really, really,
you guys played like that in this game. That was
not the same Michigan team that we saw for thirteen weeks.
So at this course of the season, that was not

(41:39):
the methodical team that didn't screw up. I mean, the
crazy stat wasn't they threw that? That was the two
picks six. I think they had three turnovers and they
hadn't had multiple turnovers in any game all year and
only gave up seven in the first you know, thirteen games.
I mean, that was just not the Michigan team. So again,
give Teeth you credit. They won you, they pulled up,

(42:00):
they got it done. I just don't see Georgia making
those mistakes. Pete fu Tech with us Jason spit Show
with made Bike Armen here uh from the Tire Act
dot Com, Fox Sports Radio Studios. UH follow Pete on
Twitter at Pete few tech uh college Football News at
cluh Football News as well. So you got that as well, Pete, Um,

(42:22):
we'd be remiss if we didn't talk about you know,
Jason's already got Notre Dame penciled in for the national
title game. Uh and sat him and I got him
into the playoff. They're gonna Bembartman is good. He's gonna
get them into the playoff next year. Well, you you're
gonna have to get in line. There's like a like
an airplane holding pattern around the field. You know, who's

(42:43):
also getting in the college football playoff next year? Apparently
everybody except Syracuse exactly like LSU fans are already clearing
off the shelf for a national title. State fans are
assuming that this is gonna be the yearing all these
teams that alviously like Texas st aim well, this is
where recruiting class kicks in in Texas. Well, we got

(43:06):
arch Manny coming in. This is where we finally, like
all these teams say okay, now it's what's happening. Meanwhile,
everyone you don't forget that, you know, Alabama, Ohouse State,
and Georgia they're still gonna be playing college football, and
USC is going to fix the glitch. You're going to
see the transfer portal this time comes this way with
the talent for the defensive side. So those things happen,

(43:27):
and all of a sudden, you kind of can you
know we're talking here? Was at January six. I could
pretty much give me Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, USC. You
take the field, and let's see how that works. He's
on Twitter at Pete fu Tech, that is, at Pete
fu Tech. Could be changing Twitter handled to Michigan Pete
fu Tech when he gets that gig in the next
couple of days. Again, college Football News dot com. You're

(43:50):
one stop shopping everything you need college football, the latest
on hardball. His prediction for the National Championship game Pete
is always buddy, appreciate it. We'll talk to you Monday
after the game. Who's got it? Who's got it better
than me? Ever? Everybody? But anyway, I lot he'll take
the gig. I'll tell you, fat
