First hour, we're getting ready for Divisional Round, which many
call the greatest weekend in the NFL. Why because you
have an excuse both days to just say I can't
get anything done. I love just football everywhere. I love that.
(01:28):
You know what, I never actually I've never actually done
that where I've I've really sort of narrowed it down
to my favorite weekend because Super Bowl Sunday, I know,
isn't my favorite because there's only one game and so
your whole night or day is predicated around whether or
not that game is successfully competitive. And and that I mean,
(01:53):
we've seen how many times have we seen it where
the halftime show and many of them are abysmal carried
the act because it just there nothing else entertaining happening. Um. Yeah,
Divisional Round playoffs, I think is the best, the best
weekend in sports maybe period, because I just I I
frankly think when you start culling the herd to the
(02:14):
final eight teams and everybody has that hey win or
go home, and not just win or go home, but
like when you survive the wild card round and you're
in like you just want one more, you just want
to get a taste of a championship game. And then
when you've waited, like only two teams now do in
the NFL and you enter the division around, I mean,
(02:37):
there's the nerves of, hey, we don't want to be
one of those losers that just go home after the
bye week. So I feel like this is when you
see teams perform at their absolute best because the stakes
are so high it can be it can really be
regarded as an embarrassment depending on where you're at in
terms of building of a culture. And and so we
(02:58):
see some of the best performances this weekend in sport. Yeah,
it is truly the at least the way it sets
up for this year. Right, we we get all these
great hallowed UH franchises, some more reputation than substance of
late Dallas UH and others that are on the come
Cincinnati in Buffalo. Right where we're looking at Cincinnati trying
(03:20):
to get back to the promised land, ekes out a
win on Sunday Night football, the game that many likened
to watching paint drying on a wall. And I can't
blame them. It was not a well executed game on
uh and for the most part, And then it was
curious how they really were quick to say Honda was
(03:41):
supposed to go low. It's his fault. I made the
right play goal. But you know that, we'll talk about Baltimore.
That's a whole other mess. And I'd love the perspective
of a guy that played in the locker room that.
Let's face it, you have a lot of folks that
have their perceptions of Bill Belichick and how he handles things,
and certainly we've seen it x eternally, I don't remember
(04:01):
him ever being as brash about a player's performance as
Hardball was after Huntley's while fumble takeaway touchdown on that
which ended up deciding that game, as he did there.
But we look at those games. You've got three teams
from the NFC still alive, and everybody is so excited
(04:22):
about the brock Purty experience. Men you in and Steve
normally at least had the first part of his games
because that afternoon window running through. But with brock Purty,
I mean the stuff of legend. Right. We joked about
it when he when he came in and performed early
that it's the the old Brady Bunch thing of he
(04:43):
is Johnny Bravo and not to be confused with the
elvish like cartoon character, uh you know all those years
ago on on Cartoon Network. But the idea that you
just fit the suit and you work to us what
has already been established and just in you know the
tow the gaps uh that are left there, and you
(05:04):
don't need to do much more because it's all set
up for your success. And as we've seen, a guy
that could move around the pocket, can make plays with
his legs that he's a little bit more than that.
And now you you look at how dangerous they are
getting Deebo Samuel and Eli Mitchell back on top of
Christian McCaffrey, who reminding us when he's healthy. Look out.
(05:25):
But you've got an opportunity here for a special performance.
Looking at what tickets are going for rich Lois, get
in for that Sunday night, UH one Division round finale
bucks up in Santa Clara. Four hundred dollars to entertain
yourself for three hours. I could think of a million
other things that I probably rather do with four Honda.
(05:48):
But at the same token, if you're a forty nine fan, right,
and this is this is everything to you, right, this
this idea that you know, maybe you're one of those
generational guys who saw Montana and saw Steve Young and
just really have never been able to say, well, we're
we're special under center, and that's the reason why we're
(06:10):
going to move forward as a team. And then brock
Party enters the scene and he's undefeated through you know,
his time, replacing the old pro Jimmy Garoppolo, who's got
a glass chin. I I I completely understand it. Spend
that four dollars, Spend it proudly because maybe this is
the lightning in the bottle moment that happens once every
(06:32):
twenty five years. And it's just the fact that Tom
Brady has played for twenty five years that has given
us the overlap here. But tom Brady was once a
six round draft pick, like we all know, and he
rose to prominence because he played with the team who
he could really manage well at first, and then became
the reason for continued success because it made free agency
(06:53):
easier because players wanted to play with Tom Brady, a
proven champion, and it made drafting easier because he had
this chip on his shoulders, so he'd be damned if
he didn't turn you know, these lower round draft pick
receivers into you know, these potential Hall of famers at times.
You know. So it's, uh, it's one of those stories
(07:16):
where I completely understand if you're one of the forty nine,
are faithful and you've been through it all, this could
be that moment where you say, I was at the
game when we found out for sure that brock Purty
was the real deal, because he will be tested. This
is a decent Dallas defense. I mean, they put the
clamps down on Tom Brady and I understand it's been
a rough year for the Bucks, but but they were
(07:39):
ferocious in their past rush. They out physical the Bucks
all night long against that offensive front. They did a
really nice job defensively. Yeah. I think that that's the
part of the game that's the most curious coming out
on Monday, because it gets dismissed like, ah, they did
what they had to do and that's it. Historically they
have not done, from the Dallas side of things, what
was needed come playoff time. They've stubbed their toe. All right,
(08:02):
So you've moved on past that foe. We watched the
defense fly around. The only thing I'm worried about. We'll
keep an eye on practice, uh, notes as we get
later in the week, and availability, because you did have
a couple of defenders leave that game. Yeah, banged up
a little bit. Uh. Michael Parsons was back to doing
spin moves near the end, so I guess he's fine. Uh,
(08:23):
and right back to his old ways. But you know,
from the ticket price scenario, it's the age old argument
that I've had on the air waves forever. And no,
I I don't get things handed to me. Maybe I
don't ask enough, and I'm not a pain in the
neck when it comes to I want free stuff. Maybe
I should do that more. But generally, if I get
to go to things and working this ship while you
(08:44):
don't go during the week uh, and then the weekends.
You know, you're trying to find your spots rich as
you know. But I've got no no issue paying what
needs to be paid for important games, events, concerts, whatever
those are, you know, captured moments of that communal thing,
whatever is close to spirituality, get as I as I
(09:05):
get sometimes right where all the energy is kind of
going in the same direction. That's why I love concerts
so much. Certainly we have the knucklehead experience at sports
events where we get fights and and folks where the
demon alcohol takes over. But in general, you're there to
celebrate the athleticism and the competition they're in and you
(09:26):
you know, mind, mind your p's and hughes, so paying
for that experience is a good thing. You're there to
see magic man like you know, I mean in the
in the literal sense, when you show up to a
magic show, you're there to see magic, and you'll pay
good money sometimes depending on the magician. But maybe you'll
even tweet rich. Yeah, exactly. It'll be something like brock
(09:47):
Party is a very talented young man period. That's a
good hot take. Yeah, yeah, thank you magic for that
delicious little ditty there on the it here not listen,
but I mean, quite literally, you're going to see magic sometimes.
But you know, you go to a concert like you described,
and you're a huge music fan, like, yeah, if they
(10:10):
just play the hits right off the record and it
sounds the same as the phonograph at home, that's boring.
You're there for the in between. You're there for the community,
for the spirituality or whatever it is. That you gain
from going to a concert. Same with sports fans. And
the fact of the matter is brock Purty. Look, is
it a little bit paint by numbers? Yes, yes, it's
(10:30):
a little bit. Kyle Shanahan gets on the headset and says, hey, listen,
you know all the threes they're they're red, so let's
just make sure we dip our paintbrush in the red
and paying all the threes. And he goes, okay, Boss, Okay,
it's funny. It's funny you say that because I've got
to take folks behind the curtain. Not to cut you off,
I apologize, but they just had Vladi Divatch up on
(10:52):
the screen because it's Lakers Kings tonight, Lakers up nine
nine minutes left. And remember the old ways bit where
Vlady was giving you to actions. You were literally just
doing the directions of Shannon and his paid by number thing,
So it just fit perfectly. Now Bloody tells you to
go left. Actually I do have my Tom Tom program
(11:15):
to um. But yeah, look, that's the reality of the
situation is he is a rookie still and and a
lot of this is being communicated over the headset. But
there are those moments of magic. And we saw it
several times throughout this this unbelievable run for brock Purty
where the play breaks down and he's unscripted and you know,
(11:38):
out of time and somehow locks eyes with an open
target downfield and just heaves up a miracle and has
connected so many times that way. We we've seen it.
We've seen it several times, and and I've seen it
enough to tell you that this guy has a little
bit of the it factor. Um is it? Is it perfect? No?
(12:00):
Does he have those rookie moments, those rookie quarters. Oh yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah. But he's also surrounded by a cast of
characters that's just so unbelievably talented it's hard for him
to miss and miss wide. You look at Christian McCaffrey's
a running back in a slot receiver. I mean that's
a huge, huge bo tight end to block at times.
(12:20):
I mean, he does it all. And speaking of tight ends,
he's got Juice check who can play tight end or fullback.
And he's got George Kittle, who's the tight end who
sometimes feels like he's an offensive tackle masquerading as a
tight end. That's how well he blocks and they all
blocked down field. All the receivers will engage. Even ayouk Ayouke,
he's got some heavy blocking. Like when he goes for
(12:41):
his contract, that's one of the things you get to
go and sell I can free up your run game,
no question about it. Downfield sells out makes big plays.
A lot of those yak on those long distance throws
is because number eleven is downfield just moving people. It's
pretty impressive to watch. And plus he is a one receiver. Now,
I'll tell you right now, outside of maybe five teams
(13:04):
in the National Football Football League, he would be the
one on probably twenty seven teams in the National Football League.
That's how good he is. You can line him up
anywhere against anyone and Brent I you can win for you.
And then Deepo Samuel. It goes without saying, I mean,
that's a guy who is he If he's given the carries,
he'd be a thousand yard rusher and and if he
(13:24):
was just a receiver, he'd be a thousand yard receiver.
But he gives you so much versatility, So yeah, I mean, look,
it is a lot about brock Purty, and there's no
question there's moments of majesty and magic, but it's also
a lot about the surrounding cast and the play caller.
Uh that's behind the scenes, you know, sort of orchestrating
the whole the whole show. I love the forty niners.
(13:45):
I think this has a little bit of one of
those team of Destiny vibes. And and even though the
Bills have had that really strange finish to their regular season,
and it feels like Damar Hamlin and the spirit of
altruism is just sort of, you know, leading the way
for the Bills. I look at them as very mortal
because their quarterback panics. I see no panic in brock Purty,
(14:08):
and that's really impressive to say about a rookie. Well,
it's pretty funny because last last week when they were
talking about pretty, he's like, oh, you know, he was
had a little bit of a rough first half of Like,
if that's a rough first half, you'll sign up for
that any day of the week. You're down one point
and you've got the better team coming out of the break.
Three your final eighteen of thirty three, thirty two and
(14:29):
three via the year, and then the rushing touchdown as well,
you know what, on the other side, we will talk
about his, uh well, his colleague there in the quarterback
room who got into a little bit of social media
thing by deciding to tweet about a higher in the NFL,
sparking a lot of speculation. For three, we'll do that next,
(14:51):
rich orin Berger and for Jason Smith on Mike Armen,

of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
(15:12):
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app. Coming up in about
twenty minutes from now, We'll ask should you always have
to say you're sorry just because a couple of people
get mad on the Internet? And someone in our industry,
a heavyweight, did so, and I'm still wondering why. But
we continue here at the Jason Smith Show with me,
Mike Harmon, uh No, Jason Smith. Tonight, rich Orin Berger
(15:35):
in Estecia. I got the laughter rolling. We've got the
Beach Boys and John Stamos singing to me on one
of the monitors. We've got a lot of NBA action.
Lakers are in action tonight. Nicolee Yokich trying to be
get that three pete going. He's on one of the monitors,
and Lebron came into the night three points away from
Kareem Abdul Jabbar's record will keep you apprized if he
(15:58):
makes it there by just shooting until his arm flies
into the third deck. Do you think he makes it tonight? Well,
I think it would be a tough go, but it
is the sacrament I mean, these are not your your
dad's Sacramento Kings. Kings can be had. Is that where
you're suggesting what I'm saying, is there a better team?
I don't think you can get that three fifteen against
this version of the Kings. Plus I mean he's gonna
(16:20):
need about two seventy in the second half. So yeah,
we got a couple of games next week that that
are curious. They've got a national National game. I think
it's a week from Saturday against Milwaukee, But in between
there is a date against the Clippers and the random
factoid that you'll see a bunch if you haven't already.
Is the only team that Lebron is not scored at
(16:43):
least forty points in a game against? Is the Clippers interesting? Interesting? Well,
the Clippers if they value one thing, especially what's hit
again rest bad management? Ah? That is also his star
cole inaccurate, but it's they typically have that lockdown, dogged
(17:06):
defender and uh and and who who will like sort
of help you know, the star the opposing stars submit
and uh forced forced to pass the ball. A lot
outside of that, though, I mean, it's just been a
lot of disappointment playing second fiddle to the Lakers for
as many years as they've had to suffer and endure.
That always like a little bit of chaos in those
(17:29):
uh cross locker room battles, no question about it. But
keeping an eye on Lebron and what he does here
because he at least keeps them them interesting because we
keep waiting for someone to finally waive the flag, whether
Jay Moore is able to convince Beyonce a genie bus
to trade those draft picks or what, I don't know. Uh.
We're brought to you by Progressive Insurance progressive makes bundling
(17:51):
easy and affordable. Get a multi policy discount by combining
your motorcycle, RV, boat, a TV and more, all your
protection in one place. Bundle and save it. Progress of
dot com. Now I alluded to social media. Well, we've
got two stories, right, so we'll do that one in
twenty minutes about apologies another one where you need that
point of clarification. It seems like there's a lot of that,
(18:12):
Like let's let's lead you to the water and get
you know, give you some tantalizing takes. Almost like you're
writing uh Dickens. Dickens like novels back in the day
where he was paid by the word and would submit
a few pages each week and keep that revenue stream going.
It's kind of like what we're doing with coaches with players,
like let's throw this out in the media, see how
(18:32):
it goes. Aaron Rodgers hanging out with Pat McAfee. Trade
Lance went to Instagram and the director of Player Personnel,
Ran Karthon, went to become the GM of the Tennessee Titans.
Lance decided to post on the his Instagram uh photo
(18:52):
of Karthon and beneath it a trio of fingers crossed
emoji's so so subtle. Yeah, it's one of those what
are you doing? Right? And it's like people that got mad,
like I saw r G three. This was in my
timeline repeatedly and other folks going, hey, we know Lamar
was hurt. You know he's he's just doing It's like, well,
(19:13):
what about the tweet and all the stuff on social
media about being valued and appreciated whatever else, Like, well,
what are we supposed to read into that you're putting
it out there? Likewise, this for tray Lance, he's seen
the rise of brock Purty. For all the guys and
all the people around them that say they don't hear
the noise, they don't read this, yeah they do, or
(19:35):
somewhat around them does that. That is abundantly clear, especially
when you see the number of players current and forma
that have now jumped into the podcast world to tell
you exactly what they think about what's being said on
sports talk radio and television. But with the rise of
Purdy and the the expectations that all right, this isn't
a fluke and this is a guy that mr irrelevant,
(19:57):
you're paying him nothing, And as I've argued, all long Rich.
I know you'd like to get returns for the trades
you made for tray Lance, given what you gave up,
But it goes back to the old economic theory of
sunk costs. You hate those picks ain't coming back. So
if you've got a guy that can do the job,
and you're not sure if tray Lance, as much as
you may like him, if the team comes knocking on
(20:17):
the door with a good enough offer, don't tell me
they wouldn't listen. Oh come on, yeah, of course, or
even if he's there, there's no guarantee he wins the job. Yeah,
now listen. I mean this is the it's the song, right.
You gotta know whin them No whin the fold um,
(20:38):
no win to walk away, and no when to run run.
That's my advice to the forty niners. Look, especially if
if Broc Purty wins you a Divisional round game against
the Dallas team that is coming off of inarguably their
biggest and best looking win of the entire season outside
(20:58):
of their field goal kicker uh inexplicably losing his mind
on extra points. That's about as good as the Cowboys
can look. So if Brock Purty goes out there and
balls just straight balls out of control. For you, it's
time to understand the situation with Trey Lance. You drafted
a guy who's barely played football since graduating high school.
(21:19):
He has been slow to develop into the prodigal son
that you were hoping he would be able to develop
into with the QB whisper Shanahan there. And the reality is,
if brock Purty is good enough to win you two
games in the postseason as a seventh round draft pick
(21:40):
and a rookie, yeah, yeah, it's time to It's time
to call this one. So okay, if it's a seventh rounder,
and maybe you can you know, steal, I don't know
a late round draft pick. I mean, clearly you're pretty
good at drafting late round draft picks. If you turn
brock Purty into a playoff winning rookie, may be maybe
(22:00):
you can sort of spend something there. But whatever you
get back for Trey Lance, just be happy he got
something at this point, because he's damaged goods unfortunately, and
he hasn't really risen to the acclaim that was expected
of him when he was taken out of North Dakota State.
So look, and that's no offense to tray Lance. That
sounds really that sounds really offensive, and it's not. We
(22:23):
just haven't gotten to see it yet. So why not
try to seek some value from this situation if you're
the forty Niners, if you don't need him, and then honestly,
for Trey Lance, depending on where he lands at lands,
it may end up being the best opportunity for him
moving forward. Well. And that's just it is that there's
so much at play. You know, It's what Nino Brown,
(22:44):
New Jack City look. Man, It's all business, never personal
or some I may have screwed up the line and
funny the way, the the point being that you know,
I'm making a business decision here and that's the have
to do. Then you know they're not looking at it
from antional standpoint of all the guys really tried to
get on the field and some bad luck, a bad
(23:05):
situation against the Bears that he wasn't able to showcase
himself well before getting hurt. All that is understood. The
reality is we've seen this team perform right, winning with
Jimmy Garoppolo consistently. The other players that had filled in
in prior Jimmy Garoppolo injuries. Situations had moments where like, Okay,
(23:27):
this could be interesting, and they fizzled fairly quickly. But
they had their moments, and Purdy has been able to
extend it. And you look at that supporting cast around.
None of those guys are going anywhere. I used the
intriguing one at least for this year. And eventually you
have to make a bunch of decisions on dollars. But
the beauty of it, you're not paying Purdy anything, right,
so you can pay another guy or two and keep
(23:49):
them around before the bill comes due for him. I
I really I I hate it and I love it
at the same time. And I'm talking about the business
end of the NFL, you know, because there are times
where you know, look everybody, not everybody, but a lot
of kids these days are getting into playing general manager.
(24:10):
You know, they have they're running their fantasy football teams,
and you're steeped in that world. Or man, I won
several leagues this year. I'll have you know. You had
a great year. I remember the league, bestball League, all
that stuff. I spiked a bunch. You are. You are
just sensational in every way. You of that twice an hour.
No I really do appreciate that because I need some
(24:32):
positive reinforcement because generally I'm just kicked in the teeth.
So I appreciate it well. And also it's in your riders,
so I read your contract care well. I mean, that's
that was part of the deal to come in on
a Wednesday night listen I Harmon's Ask twice an Hour.
I love I love the idea that kids are learning
how to do this and and you know, play general
(24:53):
manager on Mad and Mode and all that stuff. But
but there is a harsh reality to all of this,
like we're dealing with Pete Bowl and when you're dealing
with human beings, and everybody's been fired, and everybody has
been told at a certain point or another in their life.
And and I actually, sort of from a character building standpoint,
hope that everybody's been through this at least once been
(25:15):
told they're not good enough and then had the opportunity
to respond positively, because that's that is sports, you get.
I mean, you're gonna hit the canvas a lot, and
it's just it's it's old rocky mentality. Are you gonna
get back up? You know? And so it has not
gone well for Trey Lance in San Francisco injury being outplayed.
(25:39):
So if brock Purty is the guy, and that's what's
best for the business side of football, if that's best
for management and the forty Niners in frankly, his teammates,
who I'm sure you know some of them wish it
were him, but they also want to win a Super Bowl.
And if brock Purty gives them a better chance to
get him a little bit closer to out Lombardi than
(26:00):
Trey Lance does. Well, again, going back to the quote
you just use, it's just business man, and so you
just got to conduct your business better elsewhere. And if
that's what the Titans, or I don't know, if it's
with the Jets, who I don't think they're gonna be
taking any chances on a Tray Lance type guy or
or who wherever he that ends up. I I wish
(26:22):
the best for him, and I hope it works out
better for them. The truth is, if brock Purty's a
win away from making that a reality, that's the truth well,
and and that's as you flow through it. Rich, it
is the business of sports, and where you're looking at
draft capital that you've put out to get him I
mean that's spent. Now it's a question of is he
(26:45):
our guy? Compare him to Purty? What can we get
if we put them on the marketplace. Can we fortify
our roster and and worked at the back end of
the roster again to where you're not paying an exorbitan
amount of money to those spots, ergo freeing up more
money to the veterans that you want to keep and
keep this thing moving when you're looking at Tennessee moving
(27:07):
on from a Tannehill, Which is why this is most curious.
Right where you had Malik willis where it wasn't good,
It wasn't good, and and you start getting down into
the third string. Uh and Josh Dobbs played well in spots,
but he made the big mistakes when counted on to
come up with a big play. And again it's how
(27:28):
much time he had spent with the first team and
trying to make a play, et cetera. But the point
being that they'll be in the market to try to
find another quarterback. You know, you know what's crazy about
bringing up Tannehill? And I realized, you know, obviously that's
who he would be replacing if he goes to Tennessee.
Is Tannehill had the same story. Tannehill had the same story.
(27:50):
It just wasn't working in Miami. And before that he
was not a quarterback for all of his college career.
So you had questions of right, is he gonna grow
in or is he not? And and and it happens, right,
it happens where a guy, you know, he struggles and
he tries to find his path and then finally, you know,
(28:11):
it's his time and he he figures it out and
he steps up. And so you know, much like Tannehill,
maybe it's Trey Lance's turn to to have a bite
at the apple, to have a spin at the wheel,
to have his time. And and oddly enough it happens
to be in a Titans jersey if he's traded there
and Tannehill moves on and he moves in. I mean,
this happened with you know, we're talking about the forty niners.
(28:32):
This happened with Alex Smith. Alex Smith got kaepernicked and
and Alex Smith was a cast off and ended up
in Kansas City. And as a result of that, Kansas
City took a a you know, a guy who had
a poor run of luck injury and also getting beaten
(28:52):
out in San Francisco and took a three win football
team and with the help of Alex Smith as a
star in quarterback, Andy Reid turn to Kansas City Chiefs
team into an eleven win football team overnight. And he
he really stabilized things for the Chiefs for many years.
And then guess what, Andy Reid drafted Patrick Mahomes and
for one last year, Alex Smith led the charge full
(29:16):
well knowing that waiting in the rear view mirror was
somebody who would eventually become the toast of the NFL.
Maybe he didn't exactly know how good Patrick Mahomes was,
but he could see him at practice. He understood what
the deal was. So yeah, I'm sure and I'm sure
it was with a heavy heart that some of this
was happening. And it was a slow burning reality that
(29:40):
was creeping up on him as that last season with
the Kansas City Chiefs was taken away. But um, that's
life in the fast lane. And and maybe Trey Lance
got wally pipped here by Brock Purty, but he very
possibly could go and Wally piped someone else, and it
maybe Tannehill. That's the business at his business of the NFL.
(30:01):
Quick note, we're talking about the forty Niners and organizational
stability and juggernaut you brought up Alex Smith. They were
anything but remember the cavalcade of stars in the coaching
and coordinator positions during his tenure in San Francisco. Likewise,
I can't wait to see the talent evaluators go back
in and try to figure out where Trey Lance ranks
(30:22):
relative to this rich loaded quarterback class coming out in
draft and just remember it so how much you can
take and keep moving forward. That's how winning's done. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific.
Welcome back in Fox Sports Training for the tire ract
(30:43):
dot Com Studios Mike Carmen alongside Rich Ornberger and Jason
Smith Show with Me Mike Rmen. No, Jason Smith tonight
is off gallivanting around the world. We will figure out
where in the world is Smith and what type of
cheeseburger did he eat. Perhaps a little bit later on
we'll sign up a tax and trying to figure out
what he's glutten eyes gone. You can find out by
contacting him directly at how a bout a Friska Find
(31:06):
Rich at orn Berger, find me at Swollen Dome uh
in the TikTok world, right, Rich, you got a little
of that going for the morning show? Yeah, a little bit. Yeah,
you can find me uh at rich Hornburger on TikTok.
You know, occasionally I'll post a food review or you know,
some random musing about football or want to We're gonna
(31:28):
do some random musing about the food that you were
just trying to ingest there as you were talking. Or yeah,
I mean occasionally one of these um Scandinavian tidings chewy
treats from Trader Joe's goes down the wrong goes down
the windpipe the trade uh instead of the esophagus. And
that's what I was dealing with there. But listen, um,
this is a contact sport and I'm I'm up for it. No,
(31:50):
I dig that, I dig that about you. I'll bring
you the Scandinavian glug. I'll leave it at the desk
on Sunday. I though if you're not coming in then
someone else will steal it because that's the way things
work around. Oh no, no, I'll be there and if
somebody tries to, they're they're in for a bare chested
rassling match. If they try to take my clog away
from me. That well, you know what, someone stole Frostberg's
meat sticks because you know, our guy Arnie span your
(32:12):
sends give bags to the producers and and to our
technical and nobody touches my meat and they stole his
meat sticks right out of the bag. That's been a
long standing. Honestly, one of the rules I first learned
at Fox Sports Radio. It was, you know, do not
look at Jason Smith directly in the eyes, and do
(32:33):
not touch Frostberg's meat sticks. He did, I'm right. I
mean every everybody said it. I was like, I didn't
realize how real it was until until our first encounter.
So there you have it. Now he was waiting to
back body drop you if you showed your face today. Now,
if everybody was like rich and didn't touch it, it'd
be great, a not a the even dirt bag. Yeah,
(32:56):
I said, I do like this. Know what I got
for Dan who wrote in saying Harmon would be fan
boying out like a teenage girl if he saw two
of his man crushes courtside yes, at the Rockets game
tonight against the Hornets. Bryan Kranston and Aaron Paul were there. Yes, Yes,
I would be fan boying out. There's no watching Walter
(33:18):
and Jess. Well, you know, they've got their mescal products,
so they've been going to liquor stores and and you know,
wholesalers and places like Costco and the like across the
country shilling that product. I can't believe it. After after
making sweet sweet blue ice for all those years. Now
(33:40):
it's a smokey beverage and you know what it's. It's
one of those. They had a marathon the other day,
even though I've watched it multiple times. There I am
in the background as we're doing the show. It's out
a fourth screen three with sports, and there's a say
my name off in the corner there. Uh. But we'll
stick with the Abbia. We'll get to the stephen A.
(34:00):
Smith and his apology coming up in about ten minutes
from now. But we're watching the Lakers and watching Lebron
James now within three points of Kareem ab Abdul Jabbar's
all time record, and watching greatness still at this this age,
and we keep marveling at it because it's funny watching
(34:21):
him night tonight. Yes, he'll miss some games, and we
keep waiting for the inevitable. He needs a week off
or whatever to rest, and but he's earned the rights.
I get people and they get mad, Oh, he wasn't
playing in my city. You're you're cheering for laundry. Lakers
show up. Sometimes he plays, sometimes he does not play.
(34:42):
But we watched the NBA as a whole and it's
becoming a larger talking point. Rich of guys just sitting
out once again. Right, we thought we'd gotten passed the
worst of it, and now between sitting out and load management,
which again I it's an eighty two game season. If
you're not gonna shorten it, you get ready for more
(35:03):
of this. And even if you shortened it, Uh, there's
still a doctor that would come forth with the report
saying that they still need to rest more than they do.
And I understand that, and folks can be mad about
it all they want. The bigger issue is, like we
were talking about with the NFL, is the number of
injuries that you have despite all the advantages for training
(35:25):
purposes scheduling, where they've backed off on the number of
back to backs and all of those things, you know,
the upgrades in travel and how you go city to city,
et cetera. Yet you have this proliferation of injuries and
just the willingness to sit out games, which doesn't sit
well with so many folks. Again, I'd rather have a
(35:48):
guy sitting down for a game or two in January
as a precautionary measure than finding out, Hey, we know what,
we stressed him really hard there, and now we're gonna
making to the playoffs and he's not gonna be available.
Good for me. Let me let me react to that
that load management commentary the same way I reacted to
the NFL moving its regular season to seventeen games. I
(36:12):
said this when when the NFL increased its games, I'll
say this about decreasing games. If you want to increase
the game to seventeen, well, then commisurately, you need to
pay every single one of the players in the NFL
one sixteen more on their contracted salary. Every player who
had a contract, I thought that they should be given
(36:32):
a full extra game check worth of their contract if
you want to enforce one more game of abuse on them. Likewise,
if these NBA players don't want to play all the
games that they are contracted to play. That's fine. Reduced
the season by twelve games, by ten, by twenty, I
don't care. But then pay them twenty games less that. Look,
(36:54):
you're you're, you have a contract. So that's the reality
of it, giving up those dollars and sent because if
it don't make dollars, it don't make sense. He's rich.
I'm Mike coming up next. Yes, the apology that should
have never been
