say goodnight to this Valentine's Day, maybe you had a
great day. You fell in love. You've been in love,
you've always been in love. You've never been in love.
You're looking for love. You don't want to find any love.
Looking for love and all the wrong places you enjoy
(01:07):
people who have found love. You don't want love for you.
You love someone else who doesn't love you. You You love
many people. No one loves you. You love your family,
you love your dogs, you love everybody, You love nothing.
This is a Valentine's Day for you. We need to
around all of it. Nothing but love songs, Nothing but
love songs Here tonight on the show UH, a Valentine's
(01:31):
Day story unlike any other, coming off of Sunday super
Bowl Juju Smith Schuster, who of course was held by
James Bradberry. Very marginal call didn't need to be called
untilt of the super Bowl, and the chief wanted uh.
He decided it got called get over it. He decided
to have a little bit of fun on Twitter today
(01:53):
by putting out a message saying Happy Valentine's Day everybody
with a red heart and a picture of James Bradberry
with the caption I'll hold you when it matters most nice. Hey.
You know what he could do though, like if he
really wanted to back away from it, there is video
footage of him helping to uh serve the masses at
(02:13):
a can's location. He could just go on Shaggy and said,
wasn't me sure that's that's true, that's true. I didn't
do it. I didn't do it. So here's Juju Smith
Schuster putting that out there. Uh, there is no shortage
of responses to what he did. First off, A J.
Brown of the Eagles. First off, congratulations, y'all deserve it.
(02:34):
This is lame. You was on the way out of
the league before Mahomes resurrected your career on your one
year deal. TikTok boy, he admitted that he grabbed you.
But don't act like you're like that or ever was.
But congratulations again. All right, so TikTok one. You think
he was channeling his Scott con He balloon boy? Balloon boy?
(02:55):
Hey looking at VI's a balloon boy. Hey, too too
soon for balloons? Man? Still too soon for balloons? Instead
it is it's just a little bit too soon. I mean,
until anybody actually verifies what the second and third balloon
like product was. Well, they were still balloons, that's the thing.
It was still still you say balloon and that wow.
But I mean I remember going to Jethro Tull shows
(03:16):
in the eighties and nineties where they would put out
these massive balloons into the crowd. They were really large.
Did they even charge money in the nineties, like where
they just let people get in free a listen. You
know we've we've been charging further like in the nineteen
sixty eight they're still they still sell out every show
they do. Pell's not thirty thousand seats the arena States,
No, no no, no, not in the States, but it's one
(03:38):
of those you still go to Europe, right. I'm a
big fan of the Whigs and and and the late
great Mark Lanagan. They had audience here in the state,
but for whatever reason, resonated in Europe, massive crowds. The
same thing with Jethro Tull for all these years. But anyway,
the point was just giant balloons were part of the
act towards the end, and people would do everything they
could to get some piece of the eventually popped balloon.
(04:01):
Was there a lot of snot running down someone's nose
or no, alright, of drinking, people feeling like a dead duck,
A lot of happened or no oh, spitting up pieces
that they're broken luck, no question about it. So there's
a J. Brown's response and la Garrett Blunt for NFL
running back had this to say, hundred and seventy two
(04:23):
yards in the last six games Super Bowl included of
the season, and no t DS who held you then,
I love that you had a hundred and seventy two
yards in six games. Who held you? Then? Don't be
a blank and continue to play your role on an
already great team with a great coach. Congrats to my
guy Travis Kelsey in the future of the NFL. Patrick Mahomes,
(04:43):
y'all did y'all thing? La Garrett Blunt, who helped you?
Who helped you the last six games to the season
when you only caught at six paths? Uh? You know,
my my favorite part of this story is not that
Eagles are upset. The Eagles fans are upset. You know.
I love the fact that NFL players or are going
nuts on Juju Smith Schuster. But what what really gets
(05:05):
me is that I'm just embarrassed for Juju Smith Schuster.
I'm embarrassed for the guy because he didn't catch a
game winning pass. He didn't even catch the pass he
was he was grabbed very briefly by another player on
a on a play where he was never even getting
the ball even if he wasn't grabbed, and yet he's
(05:26):
acting like I just made the diving catch to win
the Super Bowl. This is the This is the this
is the court. The wide receiver equivalent of a quarterback
who gets late hit and draws a penalty and stands
up and puts his hand up, going yeah, first down.
You did nothing. You did nothing but let the other
guy hit you when he wasn't supposed to. You did
(05:46):
nothing on this play. You let somebody else melt down
in it, and you get I'm gonna stand up and
go first down because I got hit. You didn't make
a play, You didn't do anything. You did nothing. Jud
did nothing. You did I'm running with the ball, I'm
getting sacked or I'm going out of bounds and I'm
getting it first down, first down. Oh look at me.
I got held. You didn't catch the ball. You didn't
(06:08):
catch pass. You didn't catch the pass. They tried to
throw it to you. And even if you didn't get held,
you wouldn't have caught that pass. You wouldn't have got
out there for it. But yet he's acting like I
just meant like I just made the greatest catching. So
I'm Lynn Swan in the Super Bowl making that big
catch at midfield that people are gonna watch forever. Yeah,
I'm I'm that toe tap Santonio Homes against the pack.
(06:30):
I mean, come on, man, I'm embarrassed for you. I
wonder something saying hey I was held in the super Bowl,
Like that's what he's gonna be saying, Hey, what do
you remember Juju Smith Schuster all the guy that got
held on the play in the super Bowl. Yeah, there
you go. That's your dark side of the moon. That's
how you're gonna remember. You're the guy that got held
by James Bradberry and you deciding it all chesty on
social media, going I was a guy that got out. Hey,
(06:52):
I'm happy about that. Look at that I'd had to
hold me. No, I really didn't have to hold you
at all. That's all things. You wouldn't have caught that
ball anyway. My homes threw a bad pass. You would
not have got nut. It's okay, but yeah you go,
you go ahead and you run it like you made
the greatest play in super Bowl history. Alright, A couple
of things. First, I like your phraseology there he didn't
have to but he did. So there we are, and
(07:13):
the debate goes on and on. Uh. Look, and I
actually joked about it on Instagram earlier. It's like, look,
we had a lot of things from Super Bowl Sunday. Uh,
the one thing we can all agree on. We've all
celebrated Michael Keaton as Batman low these thirty plus years.
But also you know, maybe you danced a little bit,
maybe gluttonize at a wheel of cheese. But we certainly
(07:34):
debated holding. And today on Valentine's Day, hulk tight. Whatever
good is in your life for that you can reclaim,
you know, grab hold so Juju Smith Schuster, he's thinking,
as you said, his Dark Side of the Moon, which
is coming back out. Roger Waters rerecorded it without the band.
I don't know if you saw that story. It's kind
of a whole weird thing going on there as they
(07:55):
hate each other. But that's fine. But the idea that
he had a number of catches in the game. Okay,
so he was part of the second half barrage that
that the Chiefs put on the Eagles. That's good. But
he's always going to be in montages and clip shows
of this catch no catch, hold, no hold? Why why
(08:21):
did we call this? Why what are we doing? And
judicating this? And he'll be part of the giant film
review for all of the officials going forward into the
off season. This we probably didn't need to call here
a gentlemen. But for him, it's an opportunity to say
scoreboard because it did help tilt the scoreboard. So you know,
(08:44):
you you yuck it up, and you gotta be a
good sport about it because in the end, uh, you
did commit the penalty and it's Valentine's Day. Get off
social media. Wow. Upset that maybe that's how he's trying
to meet pulls on some people. I can be people
on social media, but I mean, he look, man, there's
(09:04):
gonna be a certain segment of the population that has
no idea that Bradberry held anybody. I don't know his
family situation. He could use that as a calling card.
I know, you really think someone in James Bradberry's family
doesn't know that he helped you. No, no, no, no,
no no. I'm saying in the larger community, if he's
going out and trying to, you know, find again, he
may be married. I don't know the man's personal situation,
(09:26):
but I'm just saying he or anybody else, they don't
Necessarily there's a lot of people that didn't watch the
Super Bowl. I mean there were only eighteen million, and
that was at the Peak with Rihanna and the off Dancers. Okay,
so that's that's a lot of people in the United
States that weren't watching the game. But who does he care?
But who does he know that's not watching the game.
But my point is you go meet new people. How Hey,
(09:51):
dear Internet, I'd like to meet you. If you didn't
watch the Super Bowl and don't know what happened, hit
me up at I didn't hold at Twitter James bratt Berry.
All right, you're missing the whole point. But that's fine. Uh.
In the end, it's it was became. Um, well that
was the only one you saw, right, Um there was
(10:11):
Kyler Murray one where he's barely in the in the
Valentine's Day guarden. Size doesn't matter or something was on there.
Uh so our size is overrated. Uh, and just go
on down the line. Your guys saw Us Gardner who's
getting a tattoo on I g and uh twitch here tonight,
which is kind of weird. Uh turned it on during
(10:33):
the break for about two minutes. I'm like, all right,
this is just this is too much for me. I'm gone.
But he he had it, you know, you know, talking
about the sauce and how important it is, but it's
it's petty. And you know what, that's great if you
can develop some sort of rivalry out of it. For
the Eagles, there's a lot of change of foot, so
we'll see how much and how well they're able to
(10:54):
navigate that coming off this loss, and what's gonna transpire
not only in the coaching staff but on the squad cool,
but in the internet inter room. If we can keep
getting the verbal and digital slap fights, I'm here for it.
It's just it's just embarrassing that that I gotta have
something to hold onto. So I'm gonna make it seem
like I really did something. I really know you did
(11:17):
if you had a big day, if you caught eight
for one, four and okay, but the series, ah yeah, yeah, yeah,
he held me right right right? Okay, Well, but if
it wasn't Valentine's Day, you wouldn't have had the opportunity
to throw anything up right now. It was just convenient
that the game was two days ago. Hey, hey, you
know what would be funny if you made fun of
(11:38):
this guy about hold and how he likes to snuggle.
And now I'm gonna do it because I was the guy, like,
do you think he can make money at at at
card conventions? Going, how do you sign Juju Smith Schuster?
I got held like that? Can you make like an
extra twenty five dollars and and an inscription for that? Like?
Is he gonna be able to have no doubt? Is
he able to make a cottage industry on and suddenly
(12:00):
I'll be famous now forever? Sure if he does, if
he doesn't go completely over the top and he and
his agent and marketing people don't go to prohibitive on inscriptions. Yeah,
because you know the other thing he's gonna be able
to do that he wouldn't have been able to do. Jason,
say they the game ends up the other way, he
won't be able to say super Bowl Champion, which he
can now charge whatever the hell cost he wants for
(12:22):
the inscription to that, because the price of a Juju
Smith Schuster autograph, appearance and guarantee really just ballooned after
that game and the holding call. You can minimize it
and you know, mock the pettiness of it all. Oh, yeah,
he's gonna make out. He's gonna make bank off this. Hey, Juju,
can you tell me what it felt like to get held. Yeah.
(12:45):
I came off the line of scrimmage and I thought,
I'm catching the game winning touchdown and we're gonna win
it all here. And then I felt a tug on
my jersey, and then I knew I wasn't gonna catch
the ball, but I knew that I drew the penalty
that was gonna give us the victory. And I felt
like I was twenty feet tall. I mean that, how
is that? How he's gonna tell the story? Is that man?
As time goes on, He's going to tell the story
(13:05):
to his family, friends and anybody that will hear it. However,
he wants, Hey, hey, little dude, how do you want
me to sign this to you? Like super Bowl Hero?
And now just sign a juju? Just judge. Well, I
don't know, but that's inscriptions. I was telling you, right,
I've got my All Century book from the you know,
when they had the big event at the All Star Game,
(13:27):
member Jim Gray accosting he rose uh and and everybody
going there. Well, they released a pretty expensive and cool
coffee table book celebrating Major League Baseball and the All
Century team that was announced and celebrating the five Tools,
which I don't know that we celebrate in the same
way with all the inane rule changes and equipment changes
and everything that we're talking about going into the new year.
(13:49):
But I had the opportunity my brother was able to
go to an event where they had Aaron and May
sign it. And I've had a number of guys sign it,
and there have been a number of them where I said,
I'm not paying a hundred and twenty dollars for the inscription.
You're charging me more for the inscription for your Hall
of Fame date or whatever stat than for your actual name.
So I'm going to I'm going to a show in
(14:10):
a couple of weeks. I never got Ricky Henderson. He's
all over this book, and I was like, I can't
double the cost for the inscription, because which one do
you pick for Ricky? For one? Which picture do I
get it? Do I get him when he's pictured with
the Mets in that book? Uh, just to let you know,
just to let you know, I'm a Mets Hall of Famer.
(14:31):
Two okay Mets, but that's just it. I don't care
what's on the hat on the plaque. I mean, I
celebrate all of them. But the reality was, like, what
I paid for the autograph. Wasn't worth the inscriptions. There's
gonna be plenty of kids like, yeah, I just signed Juju,
all right, I just paying you the extra fifty bucks.
I just write Juju. That's fifteen bucks. If I write
Juju I got held, that's twenty five bucks. If you
(14:53):
want Juju I got held by Bradberry and put out
a troll tweet, that's like, that's some guys. Some guys
do it by the number of characters. Some guys do
it by you know, some of their their accolades are
more important to them. Uh. Some guys will charge you
a taught if it's original artwork. Like there's there's a
million permutation my curate My curiosity is, is his signature
(15:16):
now just gonna be Juju? Well, yeah, it's opposed to
the old one that at least had a scribble for
the surname Juju held. That's that's all you need to write,
Juju held. That's it. I got held. That's so embarrassed
for that guy, man, I got held in Arizona. I'm
so great. I am so great. That's like saying, hey,
a real famous guy is now dating my ex girlfriend
(15:38):
and I used to data before. What was the matter?
Now she's dating him and he's famous and he's an
actor and he makes millions of dollars. Now she lives
on the riviera. Yeah, but I dated her a while ago.
That's that's great. You get really, this is juju smid ships.
I got held, man, Yeah, look at me, Look at me.
That's so great, Jason, he got held. They kicked the
field goal, and they wanted super Bowl. If you want
(15:58):
me to write, gets to peacock all he wants. If
you get if you want to be Patrick mahons hell,
Melvic Gordon was peacock. That's seventy five dollars. Roun me
to write that. Then we kicked the field goal after
and and held them off on the final play. That's
seventy five dollars. I write the whole story of the
last two minutes. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten
(16:19):
pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith
Show with My best friend Mike Harmon Live from the
ti iraq dot Com Studios. A big night in the NBA.
What is most likely. In Eastern Conference Finals preview, we
saw the Bucks out last the Celtics, who play without
(16:42):
Tatum and Brown? Can anybody be either of these teams?
Are the Lakers going to get it together? Joining us
now on the hotline, no one better? Fox Sports One,
NBA insider extraordinaire, longtime friend of the show. You can
follow him on Twitter at Rick Buker. It is Rick Buker.
What's happened to my friend? How are you, gentlemen? How
we and what's going on? Man? I'm I'm excited. I
(17:05):
am headed to l A next week. Yeah, start doing
the FS one thing on a regular basis. Oh I,
I thought you're gonna tell me you were part of
another Lakers trade that was just announced. Uh No, okay.
I think they used up just about all of their
(17:28):
all of the hips that they have for whatever they're
going whatever they're gonna do, and uh probably still not
going to be enough over under. How many more games
Lebron actually suits up? Boy? It's a It's a great
question because that's the thing I'm most fascinated by is
that is is he going to take what they've put
(17:51):
together and say, you know what, let me try to
drag this team into the playoffs. We're probably not going
to go very far. We may not make it pass
the play in but you know what I'm gonna Since
they made all these moves I wanted them to make moves,
they did it. I'm now going to go the extra mile.
(18:13):
I have my doubts, but you know, who knows. Maybe
maybe he will do that, but I will say that
if it, like, if he doesn't play, then all of
these moves really for not. And I don't know whether
he's holding any like, hey, now you were supposed to
go and get Kyrie and you didn't get Kyrie, so
this isn't this isn't gonna get it done, or whether
he's watching them right now kind of sizing up whether
(18:35):
he should he should make that effort or not, deciding
whether there's enough there. And obviously I'm not questioning. I mean, look,
he's injured. There's no way to second guess somebody being injured.
I still I don't understand the timeline of you break
the record, you play eight minutes in the fourth quarter
(18:58):
after breaking the record, you can't play the last thirty
seven seconds to try to close the game when it
was still a winnable game, and now not only have
you missed subsequent games, but it's now all this thing
is way bit worse than anybody you know, he's been
playing with it whatever, And I'm like, wait a minute,
there was no indication of this, and if that was
(19:19):
the case, why were we fast playing this getting to
the record? Is that again, if it's about being available
for the team and for the season and not the record,
there's just a lot there that raises a lot of
questions for me in terms of what exactly was the
or is the focus for Lebron James this season. Oh well, Rick,
(19:41):
I think it's something that we've talked about before on
the show because I always remember you you telling me
this years ago, saying, you know, there's a lot of
guys in the end, but we we we gravitate towards
the guys who want to win because there are few
and far between. Because there's a lot of guys that
love the lifestyle and love being starts and winning is great.
And then you know, it's not like they're trying to win,
but is winning the ultimate goal for them? And it's not.
(20:04):
Lebron was always someone who I measured by finals. I
measured by this. I just don't think he is as
as into winning as he was. All Right, I've won,
I won with the Lakers, I want everywhere I've been.
I'm done now and now my career is going to
be about breaking Kareem's record, getting to forty points, playing
with Brawny, putting as many points between me and whoever
comes after me is possible in the NBA. I just
(20:25):
don't think winning is something that drives him anymore. He's
changed his he's moved the goalpost as he's gotten this
phase of his career. Yep. And I and I don't
have a problem with that if it's because let me
think about it. Okay, so he's got let's say the
injury is is legit and it's serious and all of that,
and he has the goal of playing with his son,
which I think it's a really cool like I think
(20:47):
that would be a really cool thing. I have no
problem with that being what he wants to do, or
he wants to play a certain number of years, whatever
it may be. And as a result, you know what,
I'm not going to push this injury because it could
evolve into something that's going to compromise my ability to
play until Brownie shows up. But just don't then try
(21:11):
to tell me you're all about winning. Don't when you
when you have your speech the day after breaking the record,
when you left the game with thirty seven seconds left
and in a winnable game, and and you're not playing
tonight against the Buck and all these people have paid
(21:36):
thousands of dollars thinking that this was the night you
were going to break it, and you say I've never
cheated the game. I'm like, wait, wait, wait, wait, Like
there's a lot of things you can say. I don't know.
I don't know if you can say that. And so
it's not a matter of like, at this point, all
that he's accomplished, all that he's achieved, whatever he wants
(21:58):
to do with the to this career, if it's not
if if making the play in and being the eighth
seed and then getting knocked out in the first round
is just like it's really not important to me at
this point in my career. I don't have a problem.
I honestly, I don't have a problem with Lebron if
that's if that's the way he's approaching this, But just
(22:20):
don't try to sell me the other thing like winning
is the only thing I care about, because it's just
too much evidence that it's it's not. Maybe it's partly
what you care about, but it's not the only thing
you care about, and that's my only issue. Just don't
(22:40):
try to sell me on something that I've got too
much evidence to suggest it is not accurate. Lots more
to talk about, especially Anthony Davis getting the derision he
has these last weeks as well, but we'll put a
pin in them for now because it's the long the
long road and the long lead for that, and you'll
be talking about it plenty when you get out here
(23:02):
to l a Rick. So let's go to the rest
of the trade chaos that went on last week. Luca
and Kyrie. How long before there's fisticuffs at Nitre wow? Um.
I am actually not expecting that there's gonna there's going
(23:22):
to be issues between Kyrie and Luca because I've when
have we ever seen other than Harden leaving for the
most part, we haven't seen guys go at Kyrie. We
haven't seen players go at Kyrie. If there's going to
be an issue at some point, it would be with
Nico Harrison, the GM or Mark Cuban or or Jason Kidd.
(23:48):
If Kyrie is going to find fault with something that
is going on now, Luca may feel a certain kind
of way because he's he doesn't have the friendship with
Kyrie that k D had. And I think we all
look at what happened in Brooklyn were and we're still
scratching our heads as to why k D remained a
(24:12):
steadfast defender of Kyrie still wants to play with Kyrie
if we're to believe all of the reports and indications.
I don't know that that that Luca is going to
be quite like that, but I I just you know,
the idea that this is to your point, that this
(24:35):
is Joe going to work out and it's going to
work out well and there aren't going to be issues.
I I just I can't remember a time can and
you guys correct me if I'm wrong. What team has
Kyrie played with of late where things went sideways with
him and Danny Ainge in Boston? He went from Forever, Yeah,
(24:55):
all point guard? Right, and he need anybody that plays
his position he eventually fights with. Yeah, I mean that
could be some of it. I I really, honestly, I
think it's just a matter of he has difficulty with
people in authority, uh that that he feels like, I
don't need to be accountable to anyone who is who
(25:19):
is running the team. I'm uh and I don't for
whatever reason that he has that feeling. I mean, honestly,
he kind of like that. If you look at his
if that's his worldview or his philosophy, Uh, it would
the anti vaccine stand uh stands the I'm not playing
the bubble stands like all of it fits with this
(25:41):
idea that I don't. You know, I don't want anybody
to tell me what to do, what I'm supposed to do,
and and so I just feel like at some point,
at some point day, Kid's gonna want him to do
something and Kyrie is not necessarily gonna is gonna object
to it, and we're going to run into the same
(26:03):
stuff we ran into and in Boston and in Cleveland
and T B A and T B A again and again.
And he didn't play enough of that, duke, you know. Hey. Lastly, look,
we saw a great thriller tonight with the Bucks and
the Celtics. The Celtics nearly pull off the upset without Tatum,
(26:24):
without Brown, without Bird, without Parish and McHale. I mean,
it's still almost win this game. As much as I
like some of the talent there in the rest of
the East that you know, I love the Calves and hey,
look here coming to Nix a little bit, Rick, I
find it hard to believe that's gonna be anybody but
the Bucks in the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.
I'm finding a hard time finding a team that can
(26:45):
beat one of those guys four times in the series.
Is gonna stop that from happening. Yeah, I'm with you.
I do believe that, you know, matchups are going to
be a big part of how you know who comes
out of the East and the West for that matter,
probably more so in the West. Honestly, I feel like
the Eastern Conference should come down to those two teams,
and that's probably going to be the championship, that this
(27:07):
is going to be a year that whoever comes out
of the East, I just don't see anybody in the
West who's capable of playing with either of those teams.
And I don't take what happened tonight as a reflection
that Boston is so much better than Milwaukee. Milwaukee throughout
these First of all, they want eleven games in a row,
and teams when they start winning that many, then they
start just measuring, like how much do we have to
(27:29):
do to win the next one. They don't go out
like we're gonna blow people out. And they they've been
taking this approach for the last three four or five
games I've watched them, whether it was Boston with you know,
missing half their starters or the Detroit Pistons, they just
they're like, let's stay close and then we'll win it
(27:50):
in the fourth quarter. And what they're demonstrating is that,
to me is impressive when you can just say this
is when we're gonna turn it on and we trust
our execution to get it done. And so I I
do believe that Boston and Milwaukee are the best in
part because of what you saw from Boston, and I
think you can see the same with Milwaukee. Not only
(28:12):
do they have the stars, but they have the depth
their benches are just so they're just I mean, look
look at every team in the West outside of the Clippers,
and one of their great weaknesses is, yeah, they got
a couple of stars. Golden State's got stars, Phoenix has stars,
Dallas has stars. Uh Denver, if you believe bones were Highland,
(28:40):
maybe I would say two stars. Um, but they don't have.
I mean, Malcolm Brogden coming off the bench for Boston
is just that's And then you saw Drew Holiday like
went and won that game tonight, and he's considered like
maybe the third third best player on on the Bucks team.
(29:03):
Uh And I'm just you know, as an aside, I
am so happy that he received All Star recognition because
the numbers, you know, statistically might not have everything you want,
but man is he's such a winning player. I I
there's no one I'm happier for than uh In in
receiving All Star recognition than Drew Holiday. You can follow
(29:26):
me on Twitter at Rick Buker, That is at Rick
Buker Fox Sports One. Check out the On the Ball
podcast and which he talks about the late rise of
the Knicks. I believe it's an hour and forty five
minutes podcast. That's not necessarily enough. He was going Brunson, Brunson, Brunson, Brunson, Brunson,
and don't have enough meat to do that one rise.
(29:50):
In nine seventy three, Phil Jackson helped lead the Knicks
to the NBA. Take it easy, buddy, We'll talk to
you next week. Dave the Busher, YO, see you next week. Rick,
We'll find you for breakfast. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific Fox Sports Radio
(30:12):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the tire rack dot Com Studios. And we'll
get back into Derek Carr coming up in a few minutes.
Because now it's official. Anybody can get him will be
signed sometime. Hopefully it's not your team getting him, but
it might be yours. It could be my team just
taking one for the team, all right, The Jets will
get him, so you don't have to, oh, come on
(30:34):
the one liners all right themselves and we'll have a
blast with it. But look, if I need a quarterback
this offseason, right and I and I see the the
landscape of what's out there if I need a quarterback,
and it doesn't not for the Jet but for any team.
If I need a quarterback, If I need a quarterback,
here's what I here's my three step. Uh, here's what
(30:56):
my three steps go to getting a quarterback. My fool proof.
This is order now, but you have to call me
at seven seven. I'll give you my full proof. Step one.
I feel like new kids on the block. Step one,
we can have lots of fun. Step on his Valentine's night.
Step three, it's just you and me. Step four four, Okay,
(31:20):
call the Ravens and see if you can get Lamar Jackson.
That's step one. All right, there's already been talked at
this weekend. The Ravens ay we would look into trading
Lamar Jackson. You know that's how it's gonna end. Eventually,
Make a call and see if you can get it
done that if you, at least on paper, it looks
like a good fit. If you want any guy who's available,
(31:41):
who's going to be available this offseason, Lamar Jackson, he's
the number and he's the number one guy to go
for the twelve games he's gonna play. Not likely. You're
gonna have to wait, but you call and try to
get Lamar Jackson. Then step two, you call the packers
about Aaron Rodgers. You wait. If baby, he's coming out
of the darkness, he's still in the darkness. Can you
(32:02):
communicate with him while he's in the darkness. Is he is?
He is? He can he is? He'll answer his phone? Right,
doesn't he open his eyes to answer? He hasn't gant
I guarantee he's going full zero dark twelve. But if he's,
but if he's got it on a buzz, he can
still answer his phone, right, doesn't need to if you
can still? And look, man, this is like copper Field
and uh, Chris Angel and all these dudes. He's gonna
(32:25):
be sealed in that box. There's gonna be a countdown clock.
It's not it's not sensory deprivation. He can still answer
his phone. No, no, no, no, no, I I and
he's still the way I've interpreted it, And and look,
I judge it. I'm curious, kind of like Tom Brady said,
and his uh, when asked about it, he goes, I
don't know. I think we can all use a little
more quiet in our lives. I've kind him on board.
(32:46):
What did we do in Vegas if we weren't actively
out together at a right We all went our separate ways.
You went and got a massage. I just slept. But
it was nice to be able to throw the phone
in a corner and be left alone. I'd like a
wake up call for two hours from now, knees uh,
and just forget about it. But you know, press the
button that makes the curtains go dark. I felt really
(33:07):
boogie with that, that thing that was your own, that
was your own personal darkness, you know. But that's what
every opportunity I got. So for Aaron Rodgers, at least
my understanding of it is, you're you're going away for
four days and just forgetting the world. So step one,
you call the Ravens for Lamar Jackson. If that doesn't work,
(33:28):
Step two, you call the packers about Aaron Rodgers. Step three,
you waited out for Lamar Jackson. That's that's what you
do if you really want to upgrade a quarterback. Those
are your step step Call the Ravens. Hey, we know
we're not trading him right now. Okay, that's fine. Call
the packers. Yeah no, he's not really just going to you. Okay,
that's great. Step T's gonna wait it out. I'm gonna
(33:49):
call you back. Hey, Ravens, I'll be here when you
want to trade Lamar Jackson. Just just give me a call,
because I know what's going to happen. Because it's gonna
take a little while. That's not gonna be something with
Lamar Jackson. I expect to be solved soon. They're gonna
go through this whole dance because the Ravens don't want
to be the team that traded Lamar Jackson away. They
want Lamar Jackson to make it seem like there's no choice.
So you're gonna go through waiting, franchise, tag, not reporting,
(34:10):
not playing, and that's how what's gonna end. So you're
gonna have to wait that. So there's your three steps.
Call for Lamar, call for Aaron, wait for Lamar. That's
that you want to make sure you get a better
quarterback in the off season. That's the only way to
do it because the other guys you're getting, who the
hell knows what? How much better you're gonna be next
season unless you the Jets, in which case anybody would
be an upgrade, but everybody else you're not. You're not
(34:31):
guaranteed to do that. No, I like that in theory.
That's good, especially you know the twist. I mean, you
went m night, Shall him on on us? Here's part
of act one, Act two. What's Act three twist is
the twist, and and here we are so uh, because
I really thought you were gonna say, borrow with a
jaunty hat from Harmon and put the rest of the
names in it. Borrow a second hand Harmon that has
(34:56):
the salary that you'll pay said quarterbacks in the hat
another slip of paper. Whatever name you pull out, that's
the guy to cook gets. But I don't say, sorry,
you pulled his name out. But I might have a Tannehill,
you might have a Brissette. I don't want it. May
just say it might just have a picture of Baker Mayfield.
I don't want Mike White. Now you pulled his name out,
(35:17):
and you gotta go get him. But I don't want
to Sorry. You agreed to the rules of the game
before we had it. Now you put you pulled his
name out. And now this is in a game show.
You'd watch a one time special for Draft lottery. Didn't
draft lottery. My ask. Now, let's let's go. You get
you get a representative from all the teams that need ute.
That's say okay, we're going in, and that's how many
(35:38):
quarterbacks you throw into the hat. Everybody pulls out a name,
and that's the guy they get like that. You also
include the teams where they're obviously jockeying to draft said
quarterback because potentially they have to be forced to execute
a deal away because they picked Ann Hill out of
the hat. But anybody want to track I wanted a
(36:00):
draft Stroud. I got Tan Hill. No, you you're stuck
with him. But I really, come on, someone trade with me, man, someone,
I'll take whatever else is out there. I don't know
you got him. We have amended the list of available quarterbacks.
Chad Henny drank a beer and retired. You break it,
you bought it. Tanna Hill is yours? Okay, that's your guy.
(36:21):
You drew the short straw, hit Twitter and out about
a fresca. Mike gets swollen down the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Coming up next, we
get back into the biggest NFL story of the night,
and I can't believe what the reaction is to what
we've said earlier in the show regarding one quarterback who's
now available for anybody to go get. Coming up next,
(36:42):
right here, Jason and Mike, you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
