Direct dot com The way tire buying should be so
uh a Valentine Mine's Day. I mean you remember when
when Sports Talk radio used to do you know you
gotta do? Tonight is a Valentine's Day topic? Yeah? Um,

(01:06):
who are your favorite couples in sports? Let's do that.
Favorite favorite couples will take your phone calls right now
at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. Your favorite
favorite They could be couples who are dating. They could
be couples who play together on the same team, like
Judah Mins and Jesse Edwards of Syracuse. I could be,
it could be. It could be your favorite couple. That

(01:26):
could be. It could be a receiver and a quarterback.
We'll take phone calls all night long. Here your favorite
couples in sports right now, eight seven seven Fox. There
you go that there's one. I mean, we've got obviously
bumper music filled with love and hate, because if we
don't hear love stinks, then a big part of the

(01:47):
audience gets frozen out. So I mean, you gotta bring
everybody in in one giant hug. Wherever you are, however
your home lives are, and the trials and tribulations. Maybe
you broke up with a sports team because they let
you down again. Maybe you broke up with Karl Cheffer's
that's the topic for the end of the show. Hey,
if you're not with anybody, you know, if you're not

(02:08):
done together, if you're single your best sports bread what
what what team should break up with its star player? Oh,
let let's figure and if you can't be with the
one you love, love the one you're with, what team
keeps breaking your heart year after year? Even you know
it's a bad relationship, it's a terrible thing for you psychologically.

(02:28):
And every fall, winter spring, they're gonna break your heart?
Get on in at how about a fresca had swollen?
Do you know? And the thing is that was like
acceptable sports talk radio for a while, like it was
like what a great idea of Valentine's Day, Linda, that
was like acceptable. Oh yeah, yeah, let's do it. Let's
do it. I mean for a long time. Oh we
got that going up. Uh special arbor Day. Listen, what

(02:50):
are your favorite trees? Favorite tree? Favorite tall athletes? Because
tall athletes are kind of like trees, so uh favorite trees?
Eight seven seven on Fox. Let's have no that's good.
Now let's just listen to the Evening Show and run
with what they said. And it is a big evolution.
Yeah instead of that, we're gonna do this instead now
about that. You guys, guys, good you guys, get uh

we were waiting for today and it happened. It is here.
You can now go get Derek Carr quarterback. You can

(03:36):
go get him. He is free, he is available. UH
speak on Valentine's Day, Derek Carr broken up with by
the Raider. Uh Derek Carr was coming. We've seen signs
from weeks and months at a time, a lot of
back and forth that got into the media, including comp
conversations and long diet tribes from family members on national

(04:00):
television in the form of David Carr. The Raiders released
Derek Carr today after he declined to wave his no
trade clause and just before more than forty million dollars
of his contract would have become guaranteed. And now the
sides move on. Remember the big deal here is that
Derek Carr does not have to wait to sign because
he's not a free agent like everybody else's contract determinated.

(04:22):
He can sign before anybody else and likely he's going
to because this is where you're gonna get most likely
the best deal, right, because Aaron Rodgers is waiting no
decision we found out today. We'll get into Aaron Rodgers
coming up in a few minutes. His total Darkness retreat
is not till the end of the week. He was
very upset at anybody that thought the Darkness Retreat was
happening today. He was really upset. That's not why do

(04:43):
people think it's happening today. He got very haughty and
very huffy over that. But car is gonna go first
because in theory he will see the most money. Yeah,
but I gotta thought on that, Mike Harmon. See, here's
the thing, Derek Carr. I'll tell you where his best
fit is in a set. But for all this, Derek
Carr is gonna get a six year, a hundred and

(05:05):
something million dollar deal. He's gonna get four years and
a hundred and forty million. I mean, that's as as
much as sought after as he is, because he will
be sought after because he's the first guy available. He's
at the top of the list of quarterbacks because there's
not that many really good ones. He is gonna get paid.
But um, think about this for a second. Okay, Uh,
the Raiders who knew him the best, the Raiders knew

(05:29):
him the best, said no, we don't want you for
the next three years and twenty million dollars, so somebody
else is gonna give him that kind of money. If
the Saints really really wanted him, really wanted him, and
we're gonna give him that kind of money, they would
have traded for him rather than rather than become let
him become a free agent. They would have said, listen,
we're gonna go here. If he really wanted to go

(05:50):
to New Orleans and New Orleans is gonna pay him,
They would have figured out a deal. Both sides would
have said, Okay, it's in our best interest to do it,
because you want to be here, We're gonna pay you.
The Raiders want to get some compensation back. We would
figure it out. Derek Carr knows that, Okay, I'm I'm
rolling the dice a little bit by going a free
agency when I'm going to visit the Saints. But if
the Saints really really wanted them, they would have found

(06:11):
a way to make it happen. Um, who's gonna go
all in on Derek Carr being a championship quarterback. Just
think about that for a second. And by that, I mean,
who's gonna go three four years, d and fifty million.
You're insane If you do that, you're insane. If I
want Derek Carr, and I'm saying I do, I'm not
putting it out there because I don't want the Jets
to call him. But if if ay, if I'm going

(06:32):
at yeah, you know now I'm starting to get those
Derek car Jets jerseys in my timeline. Now I'm not
happy about then, well it had to happen. But if
I'm going for Derek Carr and I think he's something,
that's somebody, somebody that can be an answer. Remember there's
a lot of quarterbacks in the draft this year. There's
other guys you can get of similar talent to Derek Cart.
It's not a it's not a long step done, a
long journey from Derek Carter, Ryan Tatnhill or Derek Carter,

(06:54):
Jimmy Garoppolo. If I'm going for Derek Carr, I go,
you know what, here's two years and sixty million. This
is why you want it all guaranteed. I'll guarantee it.
I'll guarantee you two years and sixty million, and because
I want to be able to move on from you
if you're not good anymore, because again your old team
said goodbye. That's what that's that's how far I would
go for Derek Carr. And I will be surprised if

(07:16):
another team says, oh, yeah, no, no, you're our guy,
You're our franchise guy. Here's six years, here's four years.
I don't see it. I see him. He's gonna come
out and he's gonna he can't take very long because
then Aaron Rodgers becomes available, other guys become available, and
then it's okay, it's not gonna work with Derek Carr. Hey,
we can get Garoppolo for half the price, or we
can go get Ryan Tannehill for half the price. So

(07:37):
he's gonna have to make some kind of decision soon.
But I don't know. I don't know any team that's
good that it's gonna sit around and say, yeah, here
it is three or four years, million dollars not happening.
Two years, sixty million, that's what I would do. Yeah,
I just don't see any incentive as the guy goes
into his second decade in the league good not great,
And you can point to a million different things with

(07:59):
the Raiders organization. But you and I have talked to
a lot of people around the league, people that played
in the league, scout of the league, etcetera. At no
point does anybody come back and said, you know what,
he just needs to get away from the Raiders and
he's on a whole other level. That's never been the case.
It's the he's efficient, he can get to the high
completion percentage. Didn't this year obviously struggled immensely UH and

(08:23):
still had talent all around him. And and that's the
thing that if I were a new suitor in this process,
I would have been a bit nervous about now as
far as you know, all the talk of trading form,
he ultimately had the veto why would he do the
any of the Raiders any favors, Why would he get
allow them to get any level of compensation for anything.

(08:43):
It's like, screw you take your cap hit, I'm done.
I mean, that's really where it comes down to. UH.
And the trade versus release the cap hit wasn't gonna
be that much different. It's just all a matter of
if you got a player or draft compensation, and and
why would you go out of your way to help
them out? I would tell him to beat it. Uh So,
going forward with the draft this year, and don't forget

(09:04):
about we're already looking ahead to quarterbacks for next year.
You've got a lot of fresh blood coming into the league.
And at the end of the day, look at the
guys that are going into the marketplace. Do any of
them excite you at all? Jimmy Garoppolo wins, but he's
been on two great teams, So how much of that is?

(09:25):
You know, surround yourself with talent and make a play
where accounts and he's you know, forever linked with Kyle
Shanahan in terms of that level of success. And are
you banking on him playing more than twelve games in
a year. You've already got to have that backup quarterback
ready and ready to go in week one because you
have no idea what's going to happen and transpire with him.
Not that everybody can't get injured any given Sunday, but

(09:48):
we've watched it year after year. Al Right, here comes Jimmy,
He's gonna lead him. Nah, next man up. So you
got that Tannehill. I don't know. He's a guy that
I don't that I've ever heard anybody really get all
on board with him at all. So for Derek Carr,
he's just another guy. He just happens to be the
best of what is a bad class, outside of whatever

(10:11):
you have to give up to go get Aaron Rodgers.
So in the end, I'm not breaking the bank for
him two in one, you know, option for a third maybe,
but why why would you put yourself in for him
long term and potentially be hampered with a contract. Not
that it's going to get to the gargantean level of
Russell Wilson, but to where you're looking around going all right,

(10:34):
how do we fix this? If you sign him for
five years, Jason? I mean by year three you may
have pulled out whatever nubs of hair has grown back
on your head, buddy, when he becomes a genial. But
stop saying that. Don't put that what is wrong with you?
Don't put that out donut, don't don't put out there. Okay, Bunny,
it comes down to this. I gave you all your options,
the only other option out of all of this. Do

(10:55):
you like Bursette better? Do you like Baker may feel better.
Right now, you're going down to the fifth ring of
Hell to stop stop stop stops. Look, this is this
is the Jets are gonna wind up not signing anybody,
all right, at Zack again? But I mean, you know
what for the money we're gonna have to pay these guys,
screw it, we got Zack. It's not it's not what

(11:16):
it's It doesn't even need to be what what me?
Or what me? Or you tell tell tell you about
Derek Carr because you're seeing what people think about Derek
Carr the again. The Raiders know him the best, and
they decided to let him go. They didn't they could
at him three more years, hundred twenty million, didn't want him.
The Saints were the only team to make a trade offer,
the only team and the only team that wanted to

(11:39):
make a trade offer asked him to what to take
a pay cut. So do you think suddenly, okay, well
now we don't have to worry about trade. Oh now
we'd have to worry about compensation. Derek, here's fifty more
million dollars not happening. It's gonna be a rude awakening
for him. And I mean anybody that gets caught up
and that you go more than two years and sixty million,
You're insane. I say this when the Jets, the Jets

(11:59):
sign up for eight years and three million dollars all guaranteed. Congratulations.
J Yeah, I know you want to solidify the position.
I know, you know, you get stability there and one
of the big things. And everybody doing all the breakdowns
of high dollar quarterbacks and doesn't work, does it not.
Maybe you just overpaid the your quarterback. Maybe it chose

(12:20):
the wrong guy to give a giant bag to because
he was the next man up. Right, Patrick Mahomes accounted
for sevent of the chief salary cap, all the bit players,
all the add ons. They did the job, they fell
in line. And oh yeah, continuity in your GM coaching staff.
Uh kind of helps, right. We talked about it all

(12:42):
the time, organizational stability, thinking that Derek Carr is gonna
suddenly come in and vault you into some grand position
or adhering to the traditional next man up in terms
of well he was getting this, so the next deal
has got to be commensurate with that. How with that,
I go to the model of you can incentivize the

(13:04):
hell out of it. If you need to, and just
say if you need to. Uh, if if you play
really well and you hit some of those marks back
when you were gonna be an MVP candidate, great, we'll
we'll pay you and you'll you'll get a giant pile
of cash. Otherwise, forget it. You're you're one of the
guys and we need a full compliment around you. Otherwise
this ain't gonna work. Look, and this isn't that Derek

(13:26):
Carr can't be a decent quarterback. Somewhere there are good
but it's decent. He can be a decent quarterback, but
decent is Hey a couple of years. If it works out, great,
we can keep going. If it doesn't, we need to
move on. Well, but that's it. He's he's apart, right,
It's the the old concept. And this is one I
steal liberally from our guy Bucky Brooks. Are Are you

(13:48):
a trailer or you the truck? Right? The engine driving thing?
Is Derek Carr that guy? Or is he need everything
else cruising along with him to make it work? I
would argue he falls into a very large group of
guys where it's the latter. All right, This is Jay
Glazer and You may know me for the world of
football or fighting or even shows like hbos Ballers, Well

(14:10):
you don't know is for my entire life. I have
lived in something I refer to as the grey depression anxiety.
So now I'm coming out with a new podcast, Unbreakable,
a mental health podcast with Jay Glazer, where each week
when we talk about mental health, I hope to describe it,
give it words. Listen to Unbreakable with Jay Glazer on
the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you

(14:32):
get your podcasts. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harman weekdays at ten
pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Well, we got a Derek
car a few minutes ago, and and before you it's
not my stop to making it happen. It's enough that
now Frostburg is now sending me. In addition to gifts

(14:53):
of Aaron Rodgers as a raider, I'm now getting Derek
Carr as a jet. How many how many vale On
times from Derek Carr as a jet? Did you get
that Frostper created where the hearts is going up? Because
that was the thing, the whole, the whole day, right
for every league it was, you know, some kind of
mocking tone or you know, snarky comment. And obviously we

(15:16):
have no choice but to delve down that deep dark
rabbit hole that is the jujuice Smith Schuster against the world.
Now kind of we'll we'll get to that. We'll get there,
but uh, just to finish on Derek Carr before we
get to Aaron Rodgers. If I'm looking at a fit
for Derek Carr, he has to go to a team
number one that has better weapons than he had in

(15:39):
Las Vegas. Now that's the number one I need to
do that. That's why, that's why certain teams like really
don't make sense because like, well the Saints have a
lava and you know Camara is still you know, okay,
but he might not be there, like he cottracts the
whole other thing. And Michael Thomas, I don't know if
we're ever going to see him again. Yeah, so that's
not gonna work. You have to go to a place
where at least it's it's better or it's very similar.

(16:01):
And even you go to the Jets, while Breeze Hall
is coming back from injury and Michael Carter is is decent,
you have some good receivers there, but I don't want
him there. So you have to look, where's the best place,
and but it's but I know where he will fit
because and this is big, because I know the culture

(16:22):
is gonna be great for him. In addition to a
team that has two pretty good running backs, two really
good receivers, a really good tight end, a good offensive
line of defense that's good every year, and his decent
quarterback play away from being elite. Again. We talked about
the Jets being a quarterback away, Yeah, they are. You
know who else the quarterback away the Steelers. The Steelers

(16:44):
is the fit for Derek Carr because Kenny Pickett, I'm
sorry the propping up of Picket at the end of
Boy he played really well. No, he didn't. Kenny pick
It stunk. He stunk all year long. You can't go
into this year thinking, Okay, Kenny Pickett's gonna take that
big leap. No, Kenny Pickett was out man. He was
not someone that was dynamic. Couldn't put points on the board.
He couldn't do it. He had weapons, he had guys,

(17:05):
he couldn't do it. Derek Carr in that situation will
get the ball to the playmakers. He is a quarterback
that stayed healthy for his career. He'll complete a high
percentage of passes and in that atmosphere he will feel protected.
Mike Tomlin stands up for his players all the time. Publicly,
he stands up for him. And it's you see why
they're a team that finishes over five every year. If

(17:26):
they get Derek Carr type quarterback play next year like
they if they had it this year, uh again, they're
playing deep into the playoffs. They're missing a quarterback so badly.
And that's where Derek Carr is the right fit because
I know when things get a little tough in Pittsburgh,
he'll still be okay and Mike Tomas will have his back.
Everything will be all right. Things go sideways in New York.

(17:47):
Forget it, man, it's gonna get you out here. I can't,
I can't talk to this media again. Pittsburgh is the
place for Derek Carr. It is a curious place, right
you go into the elite talent. Well, they trade off
Claypool and you saw what a great impact he had
as a Bear immediately upon his arrival. I say that

(18:07):
in the sarcasm bucket is filling up beneath me here
on Valentine's Day, you know, like you're you're at one
of those trough restaurants as like I need I need
a bucket, uh, and you know waffer Thin and all
that stuff because you've overindulged on what the prefixed menu. Um. Look,
I like Friar Muth. I think he's a talent, uh.

(18:30):
Nazi Harris has his moments where like, all right, he
can be dominant. Pickens shown Deonte Johnson's a good too well.
But but but but look, Chase Claypool still talking at
the end of the year like he's gonna be a
top five receiver in the NFL. So you've got two
guys that are a couple of dopes and delusional good players,

(18:52):
not great players. Uh. And then you go down the
rest of their um roster and depth chart and you're like, okay,
serviceable guys right when you talk about boy Kin and
and the like the rest of the guys in that
running back by committee behind Nase Harris. So I think
you've got two guys again, Firemooth is gonna be a

(19:14):
top ten guy, I think, and and Pickens, who's shown
great athleticism. So with a quarterback that can deliver a
consistent ball. You get there. I don't know how quick
they'll be to want to turn the page on Picket,
But the reality is, I don't think I don't value
that talent. I I value the organization and the stability

(19:35):
that gets you to grind it out in a defense
that's always solid and all of that. So you're always
gonna be in the mix at five hundred plus. I
mean that's look at look at the job Tomblin did
this year. Um, I just I don't I think you're
valuing those receivers higher than I do. Well, it's it's
about taking that step into next year. Well, I I

(19:56):
just look at it from a talent to talent perspective.
He had talent on the Raiders, even with those guys
missing song. Yeah and and yeah, this is a little
bit closer, but you're going to run the football a
little bit more. Look, Jalen Warren was a pretty good
compliment to Naji Harris last year, and when he nearly
lost his job, Naji Harris did, he really stepped it

(20:16):
up right. Pickens will take that next step this year.
Deante Johnson is someone who's gonna have to probably restructure
his contract. But he's talented. Friar Muth is really good
and Steelers aren't a team that needs to go out
and score thirty five points a game. Right, as long
as as long as t J. Watt is healthy, the
defense is great. If t J. Watt doesn't play, the
defense is awful. Right, So you you you'll win games seventeen.

(20:39):
It's fine, it's it's good. It's good enough. And he
will be able to be in an atmosphere where he
can thrive. And that's the most important thing because things
are gonna get tough, things are gonna get difficult. And hey,
we've seen Mike Tomlin. He has he has been I
don't want to say overly fair, but he's been pretty
fair with with with playing time. He doesn't just yank
guys right away. A couple of bad games in the

(21:00):
air own, No, you try to figure it out. Then
I'll give you a little bit of a warning and
then you know, Okay, I gotta I gotta step it up.
I gotta figure this out. Right, Well, we're still trying
to figure out what it what it is in the
larger scheme of the post Ben Roethlisberger era, Right, because
you bring him. Pick it. You signed Trabisky. He's still
under contract. I want to say he's like eight million dollars,
nine million dollars or something like that. So you still

(21:21):
got that. But it's not like we're that far removed
from the l Right, we have to play this guy
because he's been here forever. Process, right, because you tell
me behind closed doors, Mike Tomplin didn't want to move
on from Roethlisberger two years before they did. But then
last year's like, wait, if we had him for one
more year, maybe we got well if he if he

(21:44):
would have been able to grind out another twelve games,
you might you might have been all right. Because that's
the other thing is you look at the division, right Cleveland,
I have no idea what Deshaun Watson is gonna be.
You got another three d plus touches on the legs
of of Nick chub Been. And if you go look
at him, he had fell off a cliff and about
the midpoint of the season, I think he had one

(22:06):
hundred yard game and one touchdown and like his final
seven weeks or something like that. We're looking at it.
For the fantasy podcasting, I watched flex podcast and just saying, hey,
the overall numbers were great, but look what happened that
second half of the season. He was he was a
kind of a jag as they brought on board the
Deshaun Watson Express. So we'll see what happens there. Baltimore

(22:28):
is in a state of disarray. Yeah, you bring in
a new OC, but what's that squad look like? Uh?
For Horrorball going forward? How much of pro bowler Snoop
Huntley are We're gonna see twitter? And how about a
Fresca mikeets swollen down the Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmon. So there's Derek Carr and now
to Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers, who you thought, Wait a minute,

(22:51):
when's the whole darkness retreat starting? He's in darkness. He's
in total darkness now. No, no, no. He went on
the back McAfee show, very well lit, everything looked fine.
It was contractually finished out the season. Uh, and he
was very upset that people thought that his darkness retreat
was going to start today, that I'm not in my
darkness treat yet, oh yesterday? What? Nope? This thing has

(23:16):
been planned for about four months and it was always
the same date, always the end of this week. So
anybody would knowledge to the opposite of that, it's fake news.
So let me just reiterate one more time. There's an
inner circle, right, and in my inner circle, nobody talks

(23:38):
to Ian Rappaport, to Adam Schefter or to any of
those people. Okay, So if you're one of those people
who's talking to those people, it's a great reminder for
you you're not in the inner circle. And if anybody
else is out there saying stuff, or if they're just
making it up, which is also those are both likely

(23:59):
to stop the fake news. I love fake news and
circle of trust. He stold Robert de Niro. I will
take you down, Greg, I will take you down. I mean,
I love that. He's so mad. Why why would people
think that darkness retreats starting today? That makes no sense.
Why would people? I'm very upset people are not paying
attention to be enough. I really can't believe that nobody

(24:19):
nobody knows because my inner circuit can talk. Because you
know what, I exercise. Anybody from my quote inner circle,
if they say a word, Danny and you people, now
we're gonna try something. He's gonna try to figure out
exactly what's gonna be going through Aaron Rodgers head. Okay,
we're right here. What everybody do, Alex ti Shirt in
the other room, turn all the lights off. We're going
to win our own Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon

(24:42):
Darkness Retreat. I'm gonna turn the rights off here, tell
Isaac lohen Cron. All the lights go off in the studio.
Every light is off, every light goes off, no light
is on. All the lights are off. Here we go.
I got all the lights off here in the studio.
I can't turn off all your lights. Harmon, turn get
your lights off. Generally a vampire anyway, as far as

(25:03):
you know, my clothes are still on the studio by myself.
As far as you do, you man, I'm not judge.
And it's Valentine's Day, you know what, dude, whatever you
want when you have three arms. Now, it's not early enough.
It's too early for that type. It's too early, too early.
And again and now you're getting me out of my
darkness retreat here. I gotta get into a darkness space

(25:26):
right here. All right now, we need we need some music.
We need we need some we need some darkness retreat music.
Darkness music, darkness retreat music, not just darkness music, not
like you know Metallica. Do not hit the lights to
be pretty good. That would kill them, all right, all
very brief darkness music? You read? Okay, go ahead? Isac
lor What do you got? Hello? Darkness? Smile? That's clichee

(25:50):
At this point we need something different, get it out.
That's good. Does this gets us in the mood because
we need we need to get in the mood. We
need to get in the mood. We need to get
in the mood. We're getting the mood here. We're in
the darkness retreat room. This is darkness retreat. We're in
dark rooms. We have our eyes. Isaacboy just elbowed me
in the gut. Who was that's probably tie shirt, probably
coming in to try to take your food. It's got

(26:13):
gluten in it though, Oh does it well? Then he's
gonna wind up with a rash at some point soon.
So we're quiet. We're thinking it's dark. Our eyes are
closed and the lights are off, so it's doubly dark.
It's like going to sleep at night. I want you
to reach out, reach out with your mentally, with your arms,
or you can do it physically with your arms, because

(26:33):
you know you're in the room by yourself, by yourself.
And I want you to tell me the name, the
first name of a team that comes to you. Isaac
Lowan Crawn, Harmon, what about you? Okay, all right, Let's
turn Harmon's mike off. He can be darkness. His microphone

(26:55):
can be dark. Microphone is dark. Harmon's microphe the black
embraced the darkness, your fade to black, into the black hole?
Why was I hearing a college basketball game right there?
Here we go. This is good. This is good. If
I hear a didgerido, it's all over. This is like.

(27:17):
I feel like I'm getting a massage now, above board massage,
like a regular, you know, good deep tissue massage. Stop
stop too early for that type. Shoot. I told you
I got my eyes closed. He did have a massage
in Vegas. Going along to Shawn Watson, I'm seeing the
new Jets logo, the Jets I seeing I'm gonna kick

(27:41):
your ass out of this darkness retreat, just gonna start swinging.
When I walk into the other rooms, I see the mountains.
I'm seeing green stars and the sky. The T J
I'm seeing trees of green and roses too. I'm saying
blue in in and he looks glorious. Jem just kidding.

(28:10):
We'll have him back by eight. Okay, I think the
ayahuasca is kicking in. It is it is, it is.
Maybe we're all drinking. I spiked DearS, Brandon. I'm seeing
seeing now. Now you got the cocaine Bear in my head.
Can't have that, can't have that. I'm thinking that's the
complete that's a complete opposite of ayahuasca. It's a complete opposite.

(28:30):
And now that baseline is in my head. Now all
I can see is the guy who was Clay Davis,
and the wire is in Cocaine Bear, and I really
want to know what happened to his career that he's
in Cocaine Bear. But hey, it's directed by Elizabeth Banks. Yeah,
she's got like a cocaine bear. Yeah, I mean, really,
we need a Cocaine Bear universe, like a Marvel universe.
We've been universes for everything now, but let's stop. This

(28:53):
is about Aaron Rodgers here in that water. Go, I
have to go to the bathroom. But that's okay, day
tax Jap Birdie. I'm seeing green. I'm seeing the Empire
State Building, bad filter, faithed in green light and not
the Eagles. Not the Eagles light they had going on

(29:14):
for the Super Bowl. It was the green light that
they had for the Jets. But they figured out where
you using. Why not I'm seeing jets, I'm not seeing writers.
I'm not seeing it. I'm trying. I'm trying to look
for silver. I can't see any silver. You're not seeing
the silver line. See that was the old stadium, Isaac
and Crown Old Stadium. I'm seeing a pirate ship. He's

(29:35):
not He's not gonna go to Tampa Bay. It's not
going to Tampa Bay. I don't see it. I see
a ram And they said, I have the feel of
a breeze. That's a draft. I'm not fully sealed in
this dark room. Might be the autumn wind, Tyshian. Why
are you seeing a ram? No, I'm seeing something. Are
you seeing a truck? I mean you're seeing a that's

(29:58):
what you've I'm seeing one with like a blue and yellow,
blue and yellow truck, blue and yellow rail. Do you
even know where the Rams play? The Rams play in
Kansas City, Kansas City Rights when since today they moved today.
I don't know that save travels. Yes, we traded them

(30:22):
for the Chiefs. The Chiefs now playing Los Angeles. I'm
seeing a man doing a discount double checker a heavyweight belt,
Zack Wellson doing his best to steal it from another
man who just had it sound his waist. Wait a minute,
not just felled Mahomes farm. I'm getting a new vision

(30:45):
of Zack Wilson, like serious and Order of the Phoenix
when he gets laid and he just disappears behind the veil.
I'm seeing Zach Wilson just disappear behind a veil and
he comes Aaron Rodgers, a clean shaven Aaron Rodgers, No,
he's gonna be a dirty pipe. But seeing Anakin. But
I'm something to mace wind you right now. But but

(31:07):
a bloody face because he's shaved in the dark, because
it's a darkness retreat done. Baynard Palpancy, No, I think
this is jets. What's front of doing with the ring?
He's keeping it away from Aaron Rodgers. I just want

(31:29):
to kiss you right now, alright, alright, lights on, lights on,
lights on now, lights on? Hey, Hey, there was a
lot more jets in there than there was any other team. Granted, yes,
I'm a Jets fan of the host and Isaac low
and cried helped me out there a little bit while
you try to take it the other way, But there
was a lot more Jets in there. I'm thinking Jets
right now. In that little preview of the Darkness Retreat,
bump bump, bump, bump bump. There it is the first preview.

(31:56):
It was all coming up. Jets. Don't do it that again,
No d the young links alone. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox

The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon

(32:17):
Live from the ti iraq dot Com studios. A big
night in the NBA. What is most likely? In Eastern
Conference Finals preview, we saw the Bucks out last the Celtics,
who play without Tatum and Brown? Can anybody be either
of these teams? Are the Lakers gonna get it together?
Joining us now on the hotline, no one better? Fox

(32:37):
Sports One, NBA insider extraordinaire, longtime friend of the show.
You can follow him on Twitter at Rick Buker. It
is Rick Buker. What's happened to my friend? How are
you gentlemen? How are we doing? What's going on? Man?
I'm I'm excited. I am headed to l A next week. Really, Yeah,

(33:00):
start doing the FS one thing on a regular basis. Oh,
I thought, I thought you're gonna tell me you were
part of another Lakers trade that was just announced. Uh No,
I think they used up just about all of their
all of these kids that they have for whatever they're going,

(33:21):
whatever they're gonna do, and uh probably still not gonna
be enough over under. How many more games Lebron actually
suits up? Boy? It's a It's a great question, because
that's the thing I'm most fascinated by is that is
is he going to take what they've put together and say,

(33:44):
you know what, let me try to drag this team
into the playoffs. We're probably not going to go very far.
We may not make it pass the play in but
you know what, I'm gonna Since they made all these
moves I wanted them to make moves, they did it.
I'm I'm now going to go the extra mile. I
have my doubts, but you know who knows maybe maybe

(34:08):
he will do that, but I will say that I like,
if he doesn't play, then all of these moves really
for not And I don't know whether he's holding any like, hey,
now you were supposed to go and get Kyrie and
you didn't get Kyrie, so this isn't this isn't gonna
get it done, or whether he's watching them right now
kind of sizing up whether he should he should make
that effort or not, deciding whether there's enough there. And

(34:28):
obviously I'm not questioning. I mean, look, he's injured. There's
no way to second guess somebody being injured. I still
I don't understand the timeline of you break the record,
you play eight minutes in the fourth quarter. After breaking
the record, you can't play the last thirty seven seconds

(34:51):
to try to close the game when it was still
a winnable game. And now not only have you missed
subsequent games, but it now all these things way bit
worse than anybody. You know, he's been playing with it whatever,
And I'm like, wait a minute, but there was no
indication of this, and if that was the case, why
were we fast playing this getting to the record. Is

(35:12):
that again, if it's about being available for the team
and for the season and not the record. There's just
a lot there that raises a lot of questions for
me in terms of what exactly was the or is
the focus for Lebron James this season. Oh well, Rick,
I think it's something that we've talked about before on

(35:33):
the show because I always remember you you telling me
this years ago, saying, you know, there's a lot of
guys in the end, but we we we gravitate towards
the guys who want to win because they're few and
far between. Because there's a lot of guys that love
the lifestyle and love being stars and winning is great,
and that you know, it's not like they're not trying
to win, but is winning the ultimate goal for them?
And it's not. Lebron was always someone who I measured

(35:55):
by finals, I measured by this. I just don't think
he is as as into winning as he was. All Right,
I've won, I've won with the Lakers, I wont everywhere
I've been. I'm done now and now my career is
going to be about breaking Kareem's record, getting to forty points,
playing with Brawny, putting as many points between me and
whoever comes after me is possible in the NBA. I
just don't think winning is something that drives him anymore.

(36:17):
He's changed his he's moved the goalposts as he's gotten
this phase of his career. Yep. And I and I
don't have a problem with that if it's because let
me think about it. Okay, So he's got let's say
the injury is is legit and it's serious and all
of that, and he has the goal of playing with
his son, which I think it's a really cool like
I think that would be a really cool thing. I

(36:39):
have no problem with that being what he wants to do,
or he wants to play a certain number of years,
whatever it may be. And as a result, you know what,
I'm not going to push this injury because it could
evolve into something that's going to compromise my ability to
play until Brawny shows up. But just don't then try

(37:01):
to tell me you're all about winning. Don't when you
when when you have your speech the day after breaking
the record, when you left the game with thirty seven
seconds left and in a winnable game, and and you're
not playing tonight against the Buck and all these people

(37:25):
have paid thousands of dollars thinking that this was the
night you were going to break it. And you say
I've never cheated the game. I'm like, we like, there's
a lot of things you can say. I don't know.
I don't know if you can say that, And so
it's not a matter of like, at this point, all
that he's accomplished, all that he's achieved, whatever he wants

(37:48):
to do with the rest of his career. If it's
not if if making the play in and being the
eighth seed and then getting knocked out in the first
round is just like, that's really not important to me
at this point in my career. I don't have a problem.
I honestly, I don't have a problem with Lebron if
that's if that's the way he's approaching this, But just

(38:09):
don't try to sell me the other thing, like winning
is the only thing I care about, because it's just
too much evidence that it's it's not. Maybe it's partly
what you care about, but it's not the only thing
you care about, and that's my only issue. Just don't

(38:30):
try to sell me on something that I've got too
much evidence to suggest it is not accurate. Lots more
to talk about it, especially Anthony Davis getting the derision
he has these last weeks as well. But we'll put
a pin in them for now because it's the long
the long road and the long lead for that, and
you'll be talking about it plenty when you get out

(38:51):
here to l a Rick. So let's go to the
rest of the trade chaos that went on last week.
Luca and Kyrie. How long before there's fist two cups
at the court? Wow? Um, I am actually not expecting
that there's gonna there's going to be issues between Kyrie

(39:14):
and Luca because I've when have we ever seen other
than Harden leaving for the most part, we haven't seen
guys go at Kyrie. We haven't seen players go at Kyrie.
If there's going to be an issue at some point,
it would be with Nico Harrison the GM, or Mark
Cuban or or Jason Kidd. If Kyrie is going to

(39:39):
find fault with something that is going on now, Luca
may feel a certain kind of way because he's he
doesn't have the friendship with Kyrie that k D had
And I think we all look at what happened in
Brooklyn were and we're still scratching our heads as to
why k D remained a steadfast defender of Kyree still

(40:05):
wants to play with Kyrie if we're to believe all
of the reports and indications. I don't know that that
that Luca is going to be quite like that, but
I I just you know, the idea that this is
to your point, that this is Joe going to work
out and it's going to work out well and there

(40:27):
aren't going to be issues. I I just I can't
remember a time can and you guys correct me if
I'm wrong? What team has Kyrie played with of late
where things went sideways with him and Danny Ainge in Boston?
He went from all point guard right, and he need
anybody that plays his position he eventually fights with. Yeah,

(40:50):
I mean that could be some of it. I I really, honestly,
I think it's just a matter of he has difficulty
with people in authority, uh, that that he feels like,
I don't need to be accountable to anyone who is
who is running the team. I'm uh And I don't

(41:11):
for whatever reason that he has that feeling. I mean, honestly,
he kind of like that. If you look at his
if that's his worldview or his philosophy. Uh, it would
the anti vaccine stand uh stands the I'm not playing
the bubble stands, like all of it fits with this
idea that I don't you know, I don't want anybody

(41:33):
to tell me what to do, what I'm supposed to do,
and and so I just feel like at some point,
at some point day, Kid's gonna want him to do something,
and Kyrie is not necessarily gonna is going to object
to it, and we're going to run into the same
stuff we ran into in Brooklyn. I'm in Boston and

(41:57):
in Cleveland and t B A and t V A
again and t again, and he didn't play left that duke,
you know. Hey, lastly, look, we saw a great thriller
tonight with the Bucks in the Celtics. The Celtics really
pull off the upset without Tatum, without Brown, without Bird,
without Parish and McHale. I mean, it's still almost win

(42:19):
this game. As much as I like some of the
talent there in the rest of the East that you know,
I love the Calves and hey, look here coming to
next a little bit, Rick, I find it hard to
believe that's gonna be anybody, but the Bucks in the
Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. I'm finding a hard
time finding a team that can beat one of those
guys four times in the series. Is gonna stop that
from happening? Yeah, I'm with you. I do believe that,

(42:40):
you know, matchups are going to be a big part
of how you know who comes out of the East
and the West for that matter, probably more so in
the West. Honestly, I feel like the Eastern Conference should
come down to those two teams, and that's probably going
to be the championship. That this is going to be
a year that whoever comes out of the East, I
just don't see anybody in the West who's capable of

(43:01):
playing with either of those teams. And I don't take
what happened tonight as a reflection that Boston is so
much better than Milwaukee Milwaukee throughout these First of all,
they want eleven games in a row, and teams when
they start winning that many, then they start just measuring
like how much do we have to do to win
the next one. They don't go out like we're gonna

(43:22):
blow people out, and they They've been taking this approach
for the last three, four or five games. I've watched them,
whether it was Boston with you know, missing half their
starters or the Detroit Pistons, they just they're like, let's
stay close and then we'll win it in the fourth quarter.
And what they're demonstrating is that, to me is impressive

(43:44):
when you can just say this is when we're going
to turn it on and we trust our execution to
get it done. And so I I do believe that
Boston and Milwaukee are the best in part because of
what you saw from Boston, and I think you can
see the same with Milwaukee. Not only do they have
the stars, but they have this depth. Their benches are

(44:06):
just so they're just I mean, look look at every
team in the West outside of the Clippers, and one
of their great weaknesses is, yeah, they got a couple
of stars. Golden States got stars, Phoenix has stars, Dallas
has stars. Uh, Denver. If you believe bones were Highland,

(44:29):
maybe I would say two stars. Um, but they don't have.
I mean, Malcolm Brockton coming off the bench for Boston
is just that's And then you saw Drew Holiday like
went and won that game tonight, and he's considered like
maybe the third third best player on on the Bucks

(44:51):
team uh And I'm just you know, as an aside,
I am so happy that he received All Star recognition
because the numbers, you know, statistically might not have everything
you want, but man is he's such a winning player.
I there's no one I'm happier for than uh In
in receiving All Star recognition than Drew Holiday. You can

(45:15):
follow me on Twitter at Rick Buker. That is at
Rick Buker Fox Sports One. Check out the On the
Ball podcast and which he talks about the late rise
of the Knicks. I believe it's an hour and forty
five minutes podcast. That's not necessarily enough. He was going Brunson, Brunson, Brunson, Brunson, Brunson,
and don't have enough meat to do that one. In

(45:39):
nineteen seventy three, Phil Jackson helped lead the Knicks to
the NBA. Take it easy, buddy, We'll talk to you
