an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
(00:44):
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tract dot com the
way tire buying should be. And well, I don't want
to make any promises, Mike as we start tonight. Oh,
I don't want to promise because something like this, I
promise it doesn't turn out and it's all your fault.
But no, you could. It's calling a tease. We are
in radio, but it appears as if it appears as
(01:06):
if Lebron James is going to play tonight for the Lakers.
He is, he has come down from the hanging out
after breaking Kareem's record, and now he is actually going
to plates. And now I don't want to say, because
you know, something could strike him, you know, the mood
might be. I don't know. I'm not quite sure. I
kind of passed Kareem. Do I really need to keep playing?
But he is supposed to play when they tip off
(01:28):
in a couple of minutes. Yeah, what are we gonna
get five minutes? So come on, come on, man, he's
not Jacob deGrom. He'll play long with the Oh, we
got plenty of time to get into that. How much
are you celebrating that? Look we got rid of it,
but look what's happening on And I don't celebrate anybody.
I don't. It sounds like it's just, oh, here's surprised
(01:53):
that it's not it's not spring training. We're one day
into spring training and Jacob deGrom already is being pushed
off the mound because he has discomfort in his side
and he's not being able to pitch. Just delivered the
news sounded very sarcast I'm just snarky and dare I say,
if ross, but you can back up a little bit hateful. No, no,
(02:14):
not at all, not at all, not at all. What
I'm saying is that the surprise that does surprise you.
I mean, this is how it goes. This is you know,
you got weather issues, you got a little bit you know,
because we're we're met at a certain age is start
getting a little creaky. And if you're a picture a
player above that I don't know, thirty two, thirty three threshold,
(02:36):
I gotta think it's the same thing, right, you're getting
into that age and and and it's maybe a little
bit creaky. And at this point, are you gonna try
to push the ground to go extra hardess? No, no, no, no. Look, look,
I I hope. I hope he pitches great. I'm a
big fan of his. I hope everything is awesome and
that he winds up having a great year. Look, he's
(02:56):
plays with the Rangers, doesn't matter, it doesn't care. And
hurt me, don't hurt me. They're never going to see that.
It's not it's not like I got you know, we'll
see him for the series we played. I was gonna
everybody plays everybody, But no, I hope I hope he's great.
I hope he has a great year. I hope he's
health They hope it all works out for him. You don't.
I don't have to work. I don't have to hate
about it. But here's the thing is when you're talking
(03:16):
about spending large jobs of money and here's someone who
wasn't is interested in coming back to New York. He
wanted to go to Texas for whatever reason there is.
And it was like, okay, and we said it from
the beginning, it's hard given a guy with that kind
of track record money, and I'm I'm holding my breath
going are we gonna do it? And we didn't, And
I was I kind of exhale a little bit, going Okay,
I mean, I hate it, but this is kind of
(03:36):
what it's been for him. He's not being able to
stay on the field. Yeah, I would say some of
it just in general life in general, for everybody out there.
You know, what you you look at when you're at
investments or what you're spending your money on risk reward?
What's my quantity of enjoyment of said purchase or event
that I go to versus what does it cost to me?
What's my opportunity costs. Same thing here, especially as Rob
(04:00):
and for other people start talking, oh yeah, they're gonna
lose money. It's like, all right, so those contracts, you
start looking at it a little differently. Got maybe he
started giving things a little more side I than it
was in the freewheeling spending days unless you're the Mets, right,
So you got that. But back to the the other topic,
as we got the Lakers getting ready to tip off here,
(04:21):
uh in just a bit, when when we look at
Lebron James, there were reports that you know, in Portland,
he had gotten a really good workout and they was
feeling better. Uh that he had to go I think
getting blown out as they did, even though they can
hold up all sorts of Statuetso no, no, no, oh no, no,
but I'm having I'm having a lot of issues with
(04:43):
I gotta check. I gotta check with the third base
on pie to see if you went around? Did you
go around? No, he's telling me, say, we were saying
stat sheets and you are sorry. I've been struggling all
day with this stri But the point being that he
got his workouts in and you can look at that
(05:04):
loss against Portland and say, well, this team shot lights out.
There's nothing we can do. No, you can get a
hand on a guy, uh, you know, and actually try
to defend open jump shots instead of saying, you know,
eventually you're gonna miss, which is kind of the defense.
They've played for a long stretch here. Uh, even going
back to a game against New Orleans on loss. I mean,
(05:26):
they've given up a hundred twenty seven or more points
in three of their last five games. So not not
exactly getting it done on that end of the court.
As much as you may love the infusion of new
talent and Anthony Davis, he's mad, So yeah, he's gonna
spur him on. I'm curious to see what Lebron's got.
Maybe maybe he's inspired a little bit off of losing
(05:49):
four of the last five. We at least got to
get one win before we go into the All Star break.
And if I don't play tonight and I want to
play in the exhibition and hang out with my friends,
man he does, They're gonna they're gonna man, I will
get murdered. Come on, they're gonna honor him for passing
Kareem's record. Of course, he has to play in the game. No, no,
but he has to show up, right, he's gotta go
(06:11):
do all the tepid ovation. Yeah, you're thinking an NBA environment.
He does that halfass crown gesture like he did. Did
the Super Bowl crowd dead boot him? Oh of course,
Well if he gets bood sure, if he gets booed,
of course he would. But he's not gonna get boot.
He's gonna get tepid response. It's gonna be hey, congrats,
(06:33):
but he's gonna get booed at Mike's house. Mike's gonna
hate watched the whole game. Oh yeah, yeah, the whole
Star game. Oh yeah, yeah, you think that's gonna be
on a television at my house? No, I was really
meaning tonight's game. But yeah, no tonight. Yeah, no, I'm ready.
The clock just struck zero. Philadel win over Cleveland. Let's
(06:54):
get it off. No, actually I'm watching Northwestern. You know,
after downing the number one team in the land on Sunday,
they doubled up on Indiana at home. Get in price.
Get this for Welsh Ryan Arena. I looked at it
this morning. Was over two hundred bucks. Is that a
real place? I think? I think? Where'd you go? Again.
I think, yeah, I don't know Welsh Royals. I think
(07:14):
Welsh Ryan. It's actually a law firm. I think he's
got in the UK. Yeah, And Jason spent showing Mike
Armen live from the Direct dot Com studios arm and
right now is he turned his He turned his microphone
off in his counting to ten seven, eight nine, and okay,
I'm turned it back on. I just want to kill Frostberg.
We can talk about how complicated other banks make it
(07:36):
to redeem credit card rewards, or we could talk about
how we discover you can redeem your rewards for cash
and any amount of anytime. I mean talk about amazing
learn more at discovered dot com slash redeemed rewards terms
they do apply. Yes, right now halftime, you're Northwestern Wildcats
are a nine thirty nine over Indiana. Well you got
(07:57):
Mike Woodson almost got himself thrown out and I saw
that I see had his technical fill on the bench.
One of the assistant coaches lost his mind and started
really cursing out Um the official. So there was one
of those situations where it looks like the guys walking
all over the place, but the pivot foot never moved
and so he's screaming and then the official teas up
(08:18):
the assistant and he's turning to go talk to the
to the scorer's table and Woodson grabs his arm. It's like,
what are you doing? And even on the broadcast like okay, Mike,
come on, you might have gotten because the the original
thought was maybe he was called for the technical but
then it was pretty clear it was on one of
the assistants and then he physically cost the official. It's like,
(08:42):
all right, get yourself run eight minutes into a game,
that's who we're getting killed here. But but that happened
point it was like a six point game or seven
point game, and then they got this game was going
I want out. I've been here to one of those
Steve Courage actions where you know what, I'm just tired.
I'm gonna can you throw me out? Okay, great, it's
half time, we're down by I'm leaving. That's a that's
(09:02):
a Steve Kerr rejection. But you know, look, doing the
show last night, one topic has really just exploded all
over social media today. I can never go to Pittsburgh again.
And I want to give you a piece of advice
before we get into this topic. I want everyone here
who's listening, and I mean this. I want you to
(09:23):
find someone who loves you as much as everybody in
my timeline loves Kenny Pickett as a Steelers quarterback. Because
it's just, it's unconditional, unbiased, just I love Kenny Pickett. Right.
We talked about Derek Carr last night. He's free to
sign anywhere he wants to go. And I said, you know,
(09:44):
best fitness the Steelers they're just like the Jets. There
were a quarterback away and just like the Jets, they
had a rookie quarterback. Last year, they had a quarterback
in Kenny picketto had the same year as Zack Wilson.
Kenny Pickett's not good. He's not good. I'm sorry, he's
not a good quarterback. And we said, hey, that's a
great fit. Suddenly now you said that was a great buddy.
That's fine. You back away from every that's sorry, just
(10:06):
back away, back back away. Yeah, it's the show. I
can say something and I can disagree and tell you
that I don't like your take it. I didn't like
to take yesterday. I don't like it. Now you're the
guy who stood out in front of my house going
with a Derek Carr flag and you were you and
I was waiting Jets flag in the other hand. Yeah,
you were saying, yeah, I should have called the cops
(10:28):
on you. Uh so yeah, And suddenly now I don't.
I don't get it. I feel like I've been transported
to an alternate earth where Kenny Pickett is a guy
that threw thirty touchdowns last year for the Steelers and
they won thirteen games. I did did I get transported
to that earth where Kenny Pickett was good? Where he
wasn't the second lowest rated passer of all starting quarterbacks
last year, where his where his quarterback rating wasn't even
(10:51):
seventies seven, where he threw seven touchdowns in thirteen games,
And I we in a different earth, Mike, Or is
that what happened with Kenny Pickett last I don't know
that read and and box score watching. I want to
make sure it is appropriate. I want to make sure
that that that that that that's the that's the production
that Kenny pick it out that seven touchdowns in thirteen
weeks is acceptable production for a quarterback. Now would now,
(11:13):
I would say with the team as constructed and what
they were asking pick it to do. If you go
back in and in his games, there were plays when
they needed him to make a play. He did. Didn't
end up a forty yard bomb, No, but they did
enough and they went on a run and Mike Tomlin
once again, ha ha, there I am, even though I
was terrible. Of course, the coincides with t J. Watt
(11:34):
coming back. We always stipulate to that and make sure
we recognize his greatness. But I think the argument for
Steelers fans and I would agree with him here, it's
because it's somewhat the same argument with Justin Fields in Chicago. Yeah,
let's go trade for this guy. Do you have any
idea if he's gonna work. Nope, But you know what,
he's not Justin Fields, so let's go grab this other guy. Meanwhile,
(11:55):
we can hold people for ransom with the number one
pick and get whatever we want, a very dorble pirates booty. Uh,
instead of training and work off Justin Fields with the
we're in a system with getsy, et cetera. Likewise, Kenny
Pickett wasn't the starter to start the season. You had
some changes in the roster. I mean you told Chase
(12:16):
Claypool to beat it training him to the aforemenious Chicago Bears,
where he really didn't do anything uh there either. But
he has the heart of a champion and a guy
who thinks he's the top five receiver. So that has
to work out somehow, doesn't it Unless it doesn't. But
I'm just going back to the same point of is
Derek Carr the guy that is my difference maker? And
the answer is no. I'll take my shot that in
(12:38):
year two Kenny Pickett can move forward. I recognized the stats.
You're insane. Kenny Pickett is Zach Wilson. They're the exact
same quarterback. They can't move the team. They can't put
points on the board. They can't. They can't. The Steelers
are in the bottom two thirds of every single offensive
category last year. But that's not Kenny Pickett's fault. I mean,
come on, man, I mean just call it like you
see it. I get that that and I call it
(12:59):
him like I see it, like I didn't think that
the game was overwhelming for him, like it looked like
what it was for Zack Wilson. Whatever the final look like. Look,
he's a pit guy and the Steelers draft him, and okay, Wow,
Kenny Pickett's gonna be great, And I get that you'd
like him, But to to sit here and say, hey,
you're gonna roll in the next year with him at
quarter the rest of the a f C is going home. Man,
(13:20):
I'm glad if they roll in the next year with
Kenny pick in the quarterback, because who knows that the
guys any good boy? He was awful this year and
you can't sit here and tell me, Oh, but he
made strides in the second half of the season. You
know what he did. He threw two interceptions in the
last nine games, right, but he only threw five touchdowns.
So if you strapolate that out, that's that's okay. You
play seventeen games with season, you throw ten touchdowns? Enough
(13:41):
games with what he's feeling offensively the defense? You know,
did they down the stretch, Jason, Did they win enough
games this last year? Do they win enough games? No? No No,
I'm asking you. Down the stretch they would not see
improvement in the team and what they did as his
turnover rate went down and he managed the game. Do
I want a guy that's a game manager and that's
what you're talking about. No, But I'm not sure that
(14:02):
going forward that that's necessarily the role that they designed
for him. I think you're two Friar Muth Pickens, that
you've got a squad, you're running backs. We talked about
it yesterday. I think you've got some talent there and
a full off season with him as the guy, and
you work to his strength because he can move h
in the pocket, and he's a guy that you can
use his legs design some runs for him. I think
there's an opportunity there. I think Derek Carr is the
(14:24):
epitome of a jag if I looked it up in
the UH if you had an addiction quarterback play last year?
If the if the Jets and the Steelers right, because
it because they're the same thing, same guy, Pickett and Wilson,
same guy, except Kenny Pickett's mom is not making as
much news as well. But I was gonna ask, I mean,
you know, you want to do the comparison. There's a
bigger distraction Kenny Pickett. He's working hard to try his
(14:46):
thing over here. What have you got? Hey? It's OK.
And if you're gonna go have stuff and you're gonna
do stuff, noon make sure it's with people that you
really know you shouldn't be out there doing crazy things.
Come on, man, part of it. I'll get the distraction
part of it, Okay, I kind of. I'm in the
locker room. You lose immediately, Okay, Zach, what's mom's schedule
looking like this? You know what? The big deal? That's all? No,
(15:10):
I got it, I got it. But I just ask
you this. I ask you this. If Kenny Pickett became
a free agent tomorrow, all right, If Kenny Pickett became
a free agent tomorrow, is he one of the first
five or six quarterbacks that signed? Of course, not everybody
gets the list before him. What do I have to
(15:35):
pay Kenny pick everybody? Wait, he's not making anything, he said,
So I don't still do other things. No, no, no, no, no, no, no,
gent no. But he's every game. He's what I'm telling
you now that you have to Derek Carr doesn't know
I have a rookie, you know what, his second year deal,
Because we're talking about how good a guy is, not
about what you have to pay him. We're talking about
(15:55):
how good that. The whole point is, I can build
the rest of my squad, and how do you not
set up paying a jag How do you nine billion dollars?
Derek Carr has been way better than Kenny. Are you
kidding me? Be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I
Heart Radio app. So yeah, that whole Lakers are bad
(16:17):
looking at it for out at seventeen to two. Lakers
now a nine point lead over the Pelicans four and
a half to go before halftime, but they are holding
down Zion Williamson still with no points. It's been a
good defensive effort for the Lakers so far down. Oh no,
that is an absolutely brilliant in the low post. I
mean there's no pogo stick jumping about today for Zion Williamson,
(16:41):
no question about it. Big, big effort. It's been good.
It's been good. It's Meanwhile, my Northwestern Wildcats did everything
they could to give away this game onwing to win.
As Boo Booie hits a jumper seconds left. I'm sure
he's heard that a million times, breaking Mike with a
(17:03):
long time friend of the show, Mike Woodson, breaking his
heart in Indiana's heart with a big upset win and
look at that w was only a one point underdog
the number one team in the country on Sunday, you know,
and then the number one team in the country when
I don't know, you know what, you gotta stop with
that mentioned that where you haven't mentioned that, you haven't
(17:24):
you know, you know you then you don't like to mention.
That's like the eighth time in the show you mentioned
Northwestern the number one team in the country last week.
You know that was last week. The eighth time they
beat the number one team in the country last week,
you know they had that, You had that. I mean,
it's not yet, right, I don't I don't sit here
and remind you of bold predictions I made when my teams. Well,
I don't sit here and say, hey, I told you
preseason Jalen Hurts is gonna win m v P and
(17:44):
the Eagles are going to the super Bowl. I didn't say.
I didn't tell you prec I don't keep saying, hey,
Aaron Judge is gonna win m v P in the
American Like. I don't do stuff like that. I do
a little bit more flack off a little bit, just
backing up a little bit. Uh So, it was a
few minutes ago we told you about the story Jason
lockinfora odyssey. Washington Post put out a tweet earlier today
(18:06):
that folks are coming away from the Senior Bowl saying that, hey,
the Bears could part with Justin Fields. We told you
that in the beginning of January. Welcome to the show.
Now we get this from Jordan's Schultz, longtime friend of
that boy's big news days. You think these guys are
come on the show with us and break this news.
(18:27):
But was on Monday and the Senior Bowl was already
in the rear view mirror. Yeah, yeah, no, it could
have could have told us that, could have He could
have told us that. Uh so, But look, I get
he's working on stuff. He has his own stuff for
the Washington Post. But Jordan Schultzer joins us. You know,
a couple of times a month he comes on from
the Score. You know. Big NFL and NBA insider Um
(18:49):
put out a tweet today that people that the Ravens
are talking to to be their next offensive coordinator aren't
being told that Lamar Jackson will definitively be on the
team next year. Hey, I'm excited to come in and
work with Lamar um Okay, so about that? You know
what's been going on right that that that really we
(19:11):
don't know if we're gonna have him because you know,
he wants a lot of money in our owner. You
know it doesn't want to give him that money. So
we may yeah, you may get to coach Lamar Jackson.
You may not get to coach Lamar Jackson. Maybe le
let me throw some guys out here. You could. Could
you work with Derek Carr? Could you work with him?
Is okay? Could you work with Tyler Huntley? If you've
even of these guys are made the quarter? Could you
(19:33):
work with these guys? If something happened and say, Lamar
Jackson is not here, why are you got? Why are
you why? Why are you packing up? Why are you
packing up and going? Why? What a cross that guy off?
He doesn't want to work with anybody but Lamar. Alright, fine,
check's gotta clear. He'll work with who's ever there. Came
to the NFL, Monk Gonn'll work with whoever is there.
(19:53):
Harbor did him to sell job, and maybe part of
it was to bring him in to try to sell
Lamar uh In. In the end, it's all about selling
the ownership that uh, that they've got to keep Lamar
around at this point as much as anything else, because
trying to say, hey, Lamar, you know, look at all
this stuff, like, well, I sacrificed for you. I killed
myself out there for you. I clawed for every inch
(20:15):
for you, and want did it get me? A bunch
of guys that can't stay on the field at the
wide receiver position and the only viable receiving option I've
had has been my tight end. Now the story that
that Jordan Schultz has is on the score. Uh, the
Ravens not assuring their offensive cornator candidates they would have
Lamar Jackson this season. I mean, you gotta appreciate the honesty.
(20:37):
Oh no, I get I get it. It's not like, oh,
you know, we're we're gonna have Lamar, but what if
we don't. Not, No, it's gonna work. It's gonna work
because what's what's the dollar amount you're asking me? Look,
I could do that. Everybody. You don't think Jordan Schultz
has a story? You know, I'm not saying that. I'm
just saying we all know that Lamar Jackson is undecided
what he's doing Oh no, No, that's the whole thing
(20:58):
is that you have to let this go. He's gonna
be on an the team he's going read it's not
up to him. Read sure it is. He can sit
there and say I'm not gonna play for the franchise
that you think he's a guy that's gonna cave and
show up and say, okay, but no, it's gonna be
We're gonna franchise. You guess what. I'm not showing up.
You're gonna get your first big, big contract of your career.
You want to back to back years not showing up,
(21:18):
and he doesn't get paid if he doesn't show up,
it doesn't matter. And he'll sit there and he will
sit there and wait until he gets what's stopping them
from playing hardball, because Lamar Jackson's a different dude and
he's doing everything himself and he's not gonna he's not
gonna sit back and then show up and say I'm
playing for my team. The guy got hurt at the
end of the year and it was I'm not playing,
but you can go back. We're in the playoffs. Nope,
(21:39):
not gonna put that. No, no, no, But like we
gotta make sure we were careful there because there are
reports that he was far more injured than Hey, just
strap a boot on it, like Mike Vick and others.
So I'm not gonna try to suddenly say a guy
who plays the way he does is suddenly you know
what I'm being heard. I don't want to be out there.
(22:00):
But wouldn't you say that if you were the Ravens,
wouldn't you make sure that that's a narrative thing. Hey,
we don't want this to shout there. You would make
sure Hey, wait a minute, no, wait a minute, Lamar
has hurt a lot more than we thought. And whether
it's the Ravens and whether this is something that is
manufactured a little bit, or whether it's the truth it
was something that was not put out there, Which if
that was the case and both sides are working with
each other, you would put that out there. Maybe the
(22:20):
Ravens were completely in the dark and had no idea,
which you know what, red flag doesn't matter. Team that
we're saying, hey, I sit up and take the shot
and get on the damn field, Which it doesn't matter
because that that's not gonna make Lamar Jackson want to
get on the field. Look, we we've talked about this
for a while. Too much has gone on. If they
wanted to give him money and sign him, they would
have done it already. They have not. Lamar Jackson could
(22:42):
have signed. They offered money, and the guaranteed money for
him wasn't enough. You can be as mad as you
want to it two Shaun Watson and the the Browns, but
this is the reality. There's always gonna be somebody that
makes a mistake for a quarterback or pay somebody, and
that's good. That changes everything, which it does, right, So
it's changed it It doesn't. It doesn't change the fact
that you gotta let it go. He's gonna be somewhere else.
(23:04):
He's gonna be somewhere else. He doesn't want to be there.
They don't want to pay him. They're not suddenly you
saw what he was lowballed with. He his lowballed with
with a hundred million, or he was offered a hundred
million less than he would accept. So, I mean, how
are you gonna suddenly come up from well, we were
to guarantee you a hundred and sixty million, I want
two hundred and fifty million guaranteed. Oh, we can do that.
That's fine. Just finding a ninety million summer, We'll give
(23:24):
it to Lamar Jackson. They would have done it if
they did right. This is a story that's going to
play out, and it may play out for a while
because the Ravens and Lamar Jackson want to do this
where Hey, I don't want to get blamed for pushing
an m VP candidate out of town. Lamar Jackson doesn't
want to walk out going Yeah, I'm just I'm just
gonna leave these guys. So it's gonna take a while.
It's gonna be we're gonna franchise you, and then it's
(23:45):
gonna be I don't want to play in the franchise tag,
and then it's gonna be, Hey, here come team sniffing around.
Here's some offers for Lamar Jackson. But it's going to happen.
I would call them now. I would call the Ravens
now and say what am I waiting for? Hey? What
do you want for the guy? You know you will,
We'll we'll take care of your headache, right now? What
do you want for him? And we're gonna give him
a lot of money, right That's what That's what has
to happen. If you really want a quarterback, He's the
(24:07):
number one guy to go after. I love Aaron Rodgers, right,
I'd love to get Justin Fields. Both those guys are terrific. Right,
Justin Fields is young. He would have said a record
for yards rushing by a quarterback, but he sat out
the final week of the season. Aaron Rodgers a Hall
of Fame player that's gonna look for another year to say, Okay,
you think I'm done, let me show you. I mean,
this is after the Darkness retreat. But Lamar Jackson is
twenty five years old and m v P and a
(24:29):
guy that's got five incredible years in front of him.
So yeah, call right now, what are you waiting for?
I mean, as a gonna note, try maybe the Ravens
are gonna get you. Ever do you get him in
a moment of weakness. Let's do it. Let's make the deal.
He's not gonna sign, We're gonna go. We'll trade him
someplace else and tell him you that's you should do
right now. Because the Ravens are at that point, it
seems like they're in exploratory situations. We had the story
(24:52):
this past weekend that they would start to entertain trade offers.
I know they don't want to go fast with this,
but I would call right now out because other people
are going to because now everybody knows Lamar Jackson is available,
right and he's the number one guy to go get
in order guys that are available now in the off season.
After seeing Lamar Jackson stuff today and the story about
(25:13):
that they didn't tell the O c s that they
would get Lamar Jackson. That's the order of guys you
go for. You go for Lamar Jackson, then you go
for Aaron Rodgers, or then you go for Justin Fields,
and then you go for Aaron Rodgers. Right, I would
go for Fields before Rogers because he was gonna be
somebody that you're paying a little bit less to. Uh,
you don't have to worry about, you know, ninety million
dollars in different money in fifty million next year year after. Yes,
(25:36):
you're trading draft picks, but you're trading picks for for
Aaron Rodgers as well. But now you see that these
guys are available, that changes the hierarchy. Jackson number one
is a guy go for. Then it's Justin Fields and
it's Aaron Rodgers. But call for Lamar Jackson. Don't, don't,
but don't wait, buy your phone, No, no, make that
phone call now for Lamar Jackson to the Baltimore Ravens,
(25:57):
Twitter and out about a Fresca. Mike gets swollen down
the j Sin Smith's show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Now,
I'm gonna give you a bold prediction for where he's
gonna end up. Okay from Lamar Jackson. You have to
look for a team that obviously is in the NFC
because they don't want to trade him to anywhere in
the a f C. I get it right. You want
to do it if at all possible, or you want
(26:17):
to trade him someplace in the a f C where
it's a complete bottom feeder. He's been linked with Atlanta. Okay,
I can see that that that's a that's a really
good landing spot for him. But you're gonna need a
team that is so incredibly desperate to fix the quarterback position.
Who is who? Who has tried to fix their quarterback
(26:39):
position for the last three years and they've tried four
different guys and it hasn't worked. They've made trades, they've
drafted players, it's not worked out. You have an owner
who is newish who really wants to make a splash.
And that's when you get itchy fingers saying, let's go
make this deal. What's it gonna cost for lamar ja Accon?
(27:00):
What do we need? Okay, we have the draft picks.
That's great because we made a couple of trades. We
can make another trade to free up some draft picks
as well. What are we gonna do? Let's go get him.
And that's Carolina. Panthers are the team that if I
can tell you a team that's gonna he's gonna wind
up with. That's what will be because when you have
and we've seen it owner, if you've seen it recently
in the NBA, new owners coming in, let's let's make
(27:22):
a big push in Phoenix. It's what do we do.
I've owned the team for like eight seconds. Let's go
get Kevin Durant. Let's go get Kevin Durant. The the
desperation of owners in sports when they take over a
team to make a big splash. You can't get away
from it. Steve Cohen with the Mets, he wants to
sign everybody, and you know he's holding out for show
Ayo Tani. Sometime after this year at least, please tell
me the year hanging on after this. So you see that.
(27:45):
And now it's the same situation in Carolina. You have
a newish owner that's his boy. Uh. This would solve everything,
This would fix everything. It's a fresh start. We got
let's go get Lamar Jackson. They have the picks they
can offer. This is where he's gonna end up because
they're gonna be the ones that are most desperate for him.
Lamar Jackson, Carolina Panthers, book it. Be sure to catch
(28:05):
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Because this
is a hot take I've been looking forward to talking
about all day. No. No, that's like it's like that's
like mercury hot. Like that's like, okay, that's so incredibly hot.
Um maybe saw The big news today is that we're
(28:28):
gonna get I Am Legend two with Will Smith and
Michael B. Georgia and it's crazy and they're going to
use like, how is Will Smith gonna be in it?
Sorry spoiler, how is Will Smith gonna be in a
They're gonna use the alternative ending as cannon right, because
they made two endings, one where Will Smith makes it,
one where Will Smith doesn't, and like, oh boy, but
(28:49):
the one where he doesn't. It was such a good movie, right,
look in my hot take coming. But okay, so what
do we do here? No, we'll use the alternate ending
where Will Smith survives and they're gonna pick up the
story twenty years after. Uh, the events have happened, and
it's gonna be Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan's And
I can't wait. I am all in because, as I've
told you, I am legend Top three all time action
(29:13):
movie three all time. Are you trying to just get
the people of Pittsburgh to hate you less by going
up and throwing this out? Why is no big deal
of Pitchburg? The movie takes place in New York, So
though I think they go to Pennsylvania at the end,
you go to go to try to survive, I don't know.
Is that I don't know? Yeah? Boy? Then he came
(29:34):
in and he saw the guy and the Indian. The
guy turned into a zombie and then he slapped somebody else.
Apparently if you slaps when you turn into a zombie,
I don't know if I like it that much. I
don't know they eat all the hogies zombies. I didn't
know they're all hogie eaters. They just could show up
and only people. They just walk into a Jordan term.
Now they take all the hogies. They just walk into
the guy. The guy in in Wawa says, oh, hey,
(29:55):
go ahead right here, Mr Zombie, and the zombies just
take all the hoogies. I walk into. Where thought Andy
getting the oogies anymore? And this goes for the state,
but particularly for the city of Philadelphia. How much money
was spend and time invested in resources. Degrease up polls
that never needed to be done on Sunday. Well, these
(30:19):
you don't brought jobs in. That's what it is. People
leased had jobs for a week or so. Degrease the
polls up. Didn't use them at the end. But again
people were upset and we didn't win the Super Bowl,
so then they went and they didn't uh worked out. Okay, no,
we had to look out. I think a bunch of
people got paid overtime, the police officers. No, no, no,
it's it's a bunch of people got out there and
he was like, let'ten just put this shoveling in in
(30:41):
Green Bay when they say, hey, what do we get?
You're gonna get some hot chocolate and a hardy handshake
and ten bucks an hour that that might get it done. Hey,
too soon, too soon, too soon for the Ahuascara. Come on,
he's not He's not gone anywhere. He's not even in
his Darkness Retreat yet. It's not even happened yet. Don't
you know? He was very mad that nobody knew it
(31:03):
was the end of this week. He was really mad
about that. Well, but he really just wanted to make
a point that if you're in my inner circle and
anything of any level of truth about something we discussed
on a trail over season, looking at you, Miles Teller,
or any of these other things, if those get out
into the press, I'll know who did it. Do you
think you will be excise from the situation? But do
(31:24):
you think he fired his PR people who was like, hey, listen,
nobody knew when the Darkness Retreat was Well, I'm sorry,
you're fired. People have to know this. I'm Aaron Rodgers,
the Darkness Retreat or not. No, I liked it. He
I think we've seen enough of in these last couple
of years, the personality and well, the public persona, because
(31:44):
I think part of it is, you know, he's hanging
hanging around a lot of actors, so he's trying to
pick up their craft. Uh is the I get to
be outraged and I get to name check all the
guys that use the insider tag to say, look, you
did do anything. How many times did he say fake news?
Was it like three or four or five? Like he
(32:07):
just kept going, yeah, I know he did, he did.
He wanted to make sure that nobody was play acting
with McAfee as a willing audience as he is a
hype man for SmackDown on Fridays on Fox. It's like, yeah,
go on, Aaron, fake news. Yeah, Jason's crazy hoftake because
I was more entertaining. Yeah, but let's put the light
(32:30):
back on him for a second. Really, a top three
movie action movie all time? Yes, yes it is Jason.
You know you uh you know the three belt Okay,
the three best action movies of all time. So Jason's
Metal stand you know markets plus, I understand this. I
(32:51):
understand this. Um. Actually, no, I'll go top four. I'll
go top four because I think it's tougher to start
making any time chat what do you got? Dominions, die Hard,
Dough be Dough, die hardy Chris, I am legend die Hard.
I gotta agree die Hard die Hard, I am legend, Okay,
(33:14):
Reginald Bell Johnson being in there is really the thing
that takes it over Mad Max, Fury Road All Time
and John Wick two four best action movies of all time? Jason,
Where's killed Bill? Kill Bill? No, not even close. You're crazy?
Kill Bill is great. I love it, but I already
know how it ends because the name of the movies,
(33:34):
So I mean, you're spoiling it for me right away?
Still up, you know what? No how it says, you
know what the ending. It is just a matter of
we used this way to kill them off. Yet there
you go. Top four. I am legend, die Hard, I
(33:55):
am legend. Fury Road and John Wick part is Matrix.
Oh come on, man, are you terminator? Matrix? Isn't even
clause terminator too. I would put up there. Maybe that
could be a top five. First Well, Rambo Part two
was better than First Play. First Blood wasn't really as
much of an action movie as it was an adventure
drama because you know a lot, remember, nothing really happened
(34:18):
in Sport for a while. Nothing really happens in First
Blood for a while, right, because it's more of it's
more of the journey of here's here's John Rambo. You
meet him, he goes to try to find the family
of his friend. At all that and stuff happens. It's
kind of a slower burn about action movies. And I say,
I'm really surprised. There's one movie that he he obviously
left out and he's lost. Um, he's lost a lot
(34:41):
of credibility in the community. Either of the top guns
I said top Gun. Oh, I'm sorry, did not say
top gun, the top gun. Yeah, you got Max top Gun. No,
there's your top I forgot you know what. I didn't
say top gun, but no top Gun, die Hard, I
(35:03):
am Legend, Fury Road and John Wick hop Guns an
action movie, of course it is, Man, Come on, what
do you mean there was no action? There's all kinds
of acts. I mean when goose h you come on, man,
If that didn't get your heart pumping, he and Charlotte
Blackwell had some action going on. He's flying in this
really flew Top five. There you go, there's your top five,
(35:27):
right there, there's your Top five, Top guns die Hard.
I am legend Road movies, John Wick two, you claim
to be like a movie con sure I am. And
that there's your top five. I have jingle all the
way over that you know Sinbad was spectacular in that
that's way better. I don't know. Is that in the
top five sin Bad movies of all time? Can you
(35:49):
name one other sin Bad movie? Was he in Zam? Yes? Really,
he was the genie the one that he was. He
was in Zam and he was the g D. No,
he wasn't in it just happened, No, which is the
old one back in the nineties. Come on, man, he
was a house guest. Good Burger, stop going yo, no
(36:13):
fair going to his IMDP did not look Yeah you did,
You're just going right down really good burger? Yeah, exactly.
What about first Kid? Oh it? I mean he was
great on it. I mean it's not a movie, but
I mean he was great on a different world. And
he says that's a short. Wait now that's that that's
produced by Okay, And I'm like, oh, filmography, here you go.
(36:35):
Now what about these movies? What about I have it
man over, I am legend. Do you have what it? Man?
What is it? Man, you're not into martial arts movies,
are you? Well, okay, I gotta face clearly an is
that just a derivative of and man? No, right, wait
that over end of the like End of the Dragon
is it's like it is better than End of the Dragon. Really, okay,
(36:58):
don't have more an ultimatum, had a born. Movies are good.
The Predators are really good. Predators great. No Aliens more
of a slow burn. Aliens more of a slow burn
than action. Top Gun Maverick wasn't top cut. I waited
two hours for one plane to fly, but he saved
(37:19):
cinema is everybody he did? Sure to take all the
rounds and all of these things. Come and tell me
how great I am Robot cop. You talk about the
most violent movie ever, that's Robot X Men x Oh.
I wish the x ME movie better. That's why that
that's why Fox has to have him. I mean the
they have to have him the m C you soon
because they got to fix the X Men, because they
(37:40):
what about lethal weapon? Lethal weapon was at lethal weapon
two better lethal weapon one? It's great. Lethal Weapon two
is a great movie weapon. The song cheer down and
but lethal weapons kind of it was kind of like
a comedy drama. That that's that lethal weapon is not
not a full not not a full action movie. It's
kind of a comedy action drama. What about Heat? He
(38:01):
was Heat was good. I liked he was not he
was all heat. And Gladiator would have been you know,
if you like movies about gladiators, if you you know
scripts was a boy dog. Uh no, if they had
a if they had a DeNiro Pacino scene that was
kind of like john Wick and Commons fight scene, I
could say, okay, but they didn't have that. So that's
what about Roadhouse? Roadhouse and Roadhouse. I mean, as much
(38:25):
as I like the flaming guitar guy, I'll take that
over man. Been thing wanted. He wanted to not fight.
That was the whole thing. It was about not fighting.
He took a heart out. It was spoiler. Spoiler, dude,
if you haven't seen that now very end listen and
you know what, listen and and honestly, all these other
(38:45):
movies had better villains than Ben Gazzara, Like guys like
he's gonna do something, He's got Han Scruber. He's not
a more than Joe. Come on. Not in Rush Hour,
not crack your top. Oh my god, oh our guy.
(39:06):
If Jackson Hill says, hey, don't forget about necessary roughness
for the sin Bad Oh you know Robert Losiae Shame
Bacula and Kathy Ireland. How do we miss that? You know?
I feel Jason Bateman in that one too. I feel
shamed because you know how many times I've seen that movie.
This necessary rough as well. Okay, there's a period in
(39:29):
the early nineteen nineties, right, they'll tell you about because
this is this is another one statue limitations is done
on Um, we had a we had a hot box
in the early nineties. I said that on purpose. Now, um,
we had one of those cable boxes where back in
the early nineties pay per view they would run them
every three hours. Right, So you would you if you
(39:50):
wanted to pay, if you wanted to see a movie
and you said, oh, look, the Necessary Roughness is on
pay per view, and you would say it's showing at noon,
at two o'clock, at four o'clock, at six o'clock, you
would type in the time you wanted. You would type
into pay. They say, great, will charge your account you
watch the movie at that time. Now, obviously you can
watch the movie any time. Think about that. Back in
the early nineties, I want to watch a movie, gotta
wait till four o'clock to the next showing. So we
(40:12):
had one of those boxes where you got the free
pay per views, so every two hours. So there's a
certain number of movies that I have seen more than
anybody else in the world because it just so happened
to be in that year and a half two years
SPAM when I lived at home, when we had that,
and so the movies like Necessary Roughness, I've seen that
(40:34):
movie like fifty times, The Princes of Tides, I've seen
The Prints of Tides like fifty times because it was
what's playing on? All right, I'm gonna watch that, I guess.
I mean some movies, it's okay, boy, you haven't you
know I've seen that? Why have you seen that many times?
Just because Eight Men Out? Right, That's why I saw
Eight Men Out so many bleeping times. I Mean, there's
an unbelievably great movie. But that's why I've seen Eight
(40:56):
Men Out like a hundred and fifty times. And I
can run every line from the movie. I mean, that's that.
That's what there was that big run in the early
nineties and necessary roughness was on there. You just dropped
the Prince of Tides, one of Golti's finest roles. But
I I had a relative who um absolutely hated Barber
(41:16):
strikes Send and cursed her until the day she died
because of what she did adapting the book to the
movies and how many changes they made what she did
like it was, it became a personal vendetta. I got
people that have just random hatred for actress and actresses.
I wanted to see this movie that guy is listed
(41:37):
as male lead number six and he did this movie
or said this thing or this woman. I hated her
here and I will never see another like okay, then
moving on, and how the hell is Freddy got Finger?
Your not not on? There's a lot of action going
on in there too,
