Derek Carr. Wait, that's what That's what the world has
done to me, Mike. We're gonna get Derek car all
this stuff down, it's gonna swirl up in the air
and you're gonna come back and your guys are gonna
get Derek Carr. So now I know what's gonna happen.
I know what's gonna I know Derek Carr is visiting
the Jets. I know they're gonna sign because I'll give

you a big, bold ass prediction right now. They won't
wait for Aaron Rodgers to finish his Darkness retreat. That impetuous.
That because I I think, well, for a couple of reasons,
I think they think. I think they know they're not
getting him. That's the or they know they're likely not

getting him, because there's two destinations for Aaron Rodgers, right
It's it's the Jets or the Raiders. And with a
lot of link to the Raiders going on, they must
have an inkling at least that, Hey, if we wait
out and put all our eggs in Aaron Rodgers basket
by the time he gets around and making a decision,
we could miss out on some of the other guys,
right So, and who knows what's gonna happen when we

hit free agency the beginning of March. Do we really
want Jimmy Garoppolo, Do we want Ryan Tannhill? Do we
want one of these guys? So? I think they have
a little bit of an inkling knowing that they're probably
not gonna get him, but more than likely, I feel
like they want to take this, take the bull by
the horns, and say this is our guy. We're gonna
go get him. He's gonna be the one that's gonna
bring us to the playoffs and get to the super Bowl.

So they're having him in this weekend, and I wouldn't
be surprised if if Sunday night or Monday morning we
get the story Jets signed Derek Carr. You know, whatever
the contract is gonna be, I'm hoping, you know, two
years and and and a million dollars, but it's gonna
whatever it is, you know, for Derek Carr for three
years and and everything, that that's what's gonna happen. I mean,
I'm trying to come to grips with that that I
gotta get used to the fact that Derek car is

gonna be my quarterback now. But I can see the
Jets doing that because if if you if you wait
for Rogers, you're gonna wind up screwing yourself because then
it's like, Okay, now we're in on everybody else. But
they wanted they want to seize the momentum and say
Derek Carr was our first choice, Derek Carr is our guy.
We are a destination. We want people to come play
with the Jets. They don't want to risk that that

another guy is gonna tell them no. You know, they
don't want to go back down the road to Kirk
Cousins from a few years ago, where Hey, Kirk Cousins, Jets, Jets,
and all it was was I'm using the Jets as
leverage to go to the Minnesota Vikings. So they're not
gonna do that, and they're gonna sign Derek Carr before
even But Aaron Rodgers may come out of the darkness
retreat and they come out of the dark going on,
I'm here, what about Oh, the Jets already signed the guy. Hey, alright, Vegas,

here I come. The Jets will sign Derek Carr before
we get anything from Aaron. I'm thinking Sunday night. Maybe, say,
maybe the visit goes great tomorrow. You know he's in tomorrow.
It could be Saturday night. By Monday, when he lands
off the airplane, they just give the contract a side here,
just please, guy walks off. Why is it in a stretch? Hummer?
It's like, well, we had to fit the novelty size check.

But by our next show, you're my next show, Monday night,
Monday night. By maybe that means Derek Carr went in
and wound him with his ideas of what he could
do with those young receivers and running backs. Or maybe
he sends his brother as his emissary instead and he's
the guy that does all the uh, the discussion points

and serves as his hype man. Okay, this is why
he was screwed by the Raiders for all these years. Hey,
you know, listen, list his fault. He never threw a
bad pass. I am okay with being convinced of things
like that, Like I know, I know things, and I
and I know my opinions on things, and i know
I'm always right now. No, but I'm okay with being

bent on this one. I bet bend me and tell
me that Derek Carr is gonna be great anyway you
want me, I get. Yeah, yeah, give me the alternate
facts that tell me that Derek Carr is gonna be
great with the Jets. Give me all of it, because
its baby, it's gonna happen. Look the things I am
doing to convince myself Derek Carr is gonna be good. Okay,

here's what I gotta do, because it's it's been all
day and I've been gearing myself up for this. Right.
The things I have to do to convince myself. Number
one is I realized that Derek r or whoever they
bring in is not Zach Wilson. And that's a benefit, Right,
there is this player, Zach Wilson. No, Okay, then we're
getting an upgrade, right, It's like it's like a float
chart where it says, Okay, how to know Derek Carr

is a good choice for you, and it says and
then then then it has an arrow pointing down to
a bubble, and the bubble says, is this guy Zack Wilson, Yes,
go to the happy emoji. No, go to the unhappy emoji,
and you keep going down. So no, is not Zach Wilson.
So yes, I go to the happy emoji and I'm happy.
Mike is he going? Is he going to give his

offensive lineman better gifts than the scooters that Zack Wilson did? Mmm?
I would well, he's making more money, so I would
think so. I mean the guys made more money, he
will make more money. I think he would give a
better gift than that. Yeah, Because I think that's one
of the considerations in all of this process. You you
proffered uh an idea of two for sixty year thereabouts,

and then we start getting into optionality of a year
three as Car enters his second decade in the league,
and and look there, as much as we mock the Jets, Jason,
I think we can all agree you actually have a
pretty solid roster at the moment, and if we if
we said anything else, we'd just be hate watching uh

and and just mocking you because they wear Jets logos,
which is still fair to a degree. But we we
look at the talent that's that's assembled there. Well, I mean,
are they gonna get away with the same level of
holding calls that they did this year? I don't know.
Maybe there'll be a point of emphasis or and fascists

on the sellable as we joke about here in the
Excellence of Elocution Hours on Fox Sports Radio. But I'm
curious to see the decision process because I don't think
it happens before Rogers. I think they're gonna try to
get an audience with him now, I think because because
then you then you lose your momentum on on Derek Carr.
If you do that, then's hey, we love you man. Great.

So a contract. Well, here's the thing, here's the thing different,
here's the thing here you're going you can't let them
out of the building. It's like who else is asking
him into theirs? Noah, I said, now here. This is like,
this is like when you have a conversation, like when
you're when you're when you're dating somebody and you think like, okay,

this might work and you say, hey, you know, so
I know, we've just started dating. We've been on a
few dates, things are pretty good. Um, we should probably
do you think we want to date and be exclusive
to dating each other? And then the other person says,
you know, maybe, but here's the thing. There's somebody else
that I kind am interested in and if if it

works out, I would really want to date them instead
of you. Well that gives you out right there. But
if that doesn't work, better that you got that conversation done.
But if it doesn't work out, I would I would, Yes,
let's let's think about being exclusive. So wait, wait, wait,
So you want to see if you can be exclusive
with somebody else and if that doesn't work, you're gonna

come back to me exactly blank. You I'm believing I'm
going someplace else now that Jets can't have that happen.
Folks that are happy with that. If they're bringing Derek
Carr in, it's because they want them and they don't
need to bring him in. If they're doing a fact
finding tour on Derek Carr, or just hey, we want
to by all reports and whether I agree with it

or not. The Jets have identified him as a guy
they really like. And this is not gonna be one
of those oh free agents are gonna come. They're gonna
go visit like seven or eight different places and then
make a decision. It's not gonna be this. That's not
going to be this visiting cre agent. This is where
you're in and you're leaving and we're gonna you're gonna
be signing a contract on Sunday night. So, Derek, a
lot of people in defense of you in the media

for your time in Oakland Slash Laws Vegas talked about
the number of coaches that came through the building, how
much that was Mark Davis versus your failures all hang
up and uh, it's hard, right, It's hard for me

to to convince myself of this. But number one, he's
not Zack Wilson. That's good. The you know. The other
thing another thing is this is that of all the
other guys out there, boy, I would love Justin Fields,
I would love Lamar Jackson, I would love Aaron Rodgers.
All those guys are gonna come with a with a
page in addition to just money, right, because the money

is one thing. Okay, fine, it's the money. I don't
care about the money. You spend money you can get free. Okay,
that's great because you're working with a lot of talent
that's young, and you're looking at Derek Carr's window that
you're trying to get over in that division is in
the short term. Yeah, and all the other guys are
well first round picks. Multiple first round picks would come
with getting any of them, right, Maybe not with Rogers.

We've seen some reports this week that the asking price
might be lower even even if they are amenable to
changing up the contract like that, that there would still
perhaps be a lower, lower offer needed for him. Yeah,
it could be, and that if they're really upset because
you know, Rogers saying, wait, I don't want to go
to a team for the next couple of years or something.

(09:37):
I'm losing all these draft picks. Unfortunately you traded money
for uh the no trade close. Money can be exchanged
for goods and services. But the other guys, you know,
you're potentially losing draft picks. And the Jets can say, okay,
we can get a guy here that we like who
is not going to cost draft picks, so yeah, Okay,
that's another thing I'm trying to convince myself with He's

not Zach Wilson. They don't have to worry about any
anything else other than money compensation. I like that now,
the big one. And like I said, and the other
big one is that, Okay, they're bent on getting a veteran,
all right, that's fine. And I wonder if Aaron Rodgers
has already told them no, that's a big one because

I think the timing is curious that now they're bringing
him in because if he was really the number one
guy in the jets board, wouldn't he on Wednesday? Hey,
come in tomorrow where the private jets coming to pick
you up. We want you tomorrow. We don't want you
to go visit anybody else. We want you to come
visit with us, and we're gonna sign you. Wouldn't you
have done that night? You know, here under Derek Carr's

plane is landing areas. He's in seats seven G seven
G for Derek Carr. So you would have done that
if Derek Carr really was your number one choice. Now
likely he was the jet he was the number two choice.
But before going into the darkness, Retreat where Aaron Rodgers
likely is now. I mean, I'm sure he's in the
Darkness Retreat. I wonder if he told the Jets know
or or you tay, Hey, you know what, it's gonna

be tough sledding. And I don't think you're you know,
you're not the leader in the clubhouse to get him,
and getting Aaron's gonna be very very difficult. So the
Jets have pivoted very quickly and moved on because here
it is on Friday, the day of the Darkness Retreat,
and and now it's hey, we have Derek Carr coming in. Yeah,
I think that's a little curious that timing. So those
three things, okay, that could try to convince myself that

this is gonna be good. I could try to convince
myself that yeah, this is gonna wind up working. Those
are the big three things. And selfishly, I love the
fact that he's going to adopt a New York accent
when he shows up, because you know we will. The
Southern thing isn't gonna work in New York. I mean,
you know, he's from friends, know he's gonna he's gonna
gonna go doing Derek card, Derek you sound a lot
different from what I've talked to. You know, this is
how I talked my whole life. He started singing Southern

accents by Tom Patty to try to win people over.
What are you talking about? You want to ask me
stupid questions like that, what are you stupid? Hey, I've
been covering the Jets for like fifteen years. I don't
care how many years. It's a stupid question. Give me
something else, like maybe he gets in that point. I'll
tell you, I'd love to hear it. There's your reasoning,

and one is from Tray Lance. Alright, forty nine is
quarterback had to debunk all the rumors about the Tennessee

Titans after the Titans hired former San Francisco forty nine
is director of player Personnel Ran Carthon. A couple of
weeks ago, remember Trey Lance put up that the I emoji.
Hey look what happened here? Oh man, hey, you're going
to I want to go to Tennessee. I want to
go to Tennessee. He knows how social media works. He's
a big boy. Uh he said, hey, wait a minute.
That was a mistake. And I never minute to sound

(32:13):
like I want out of San Francisco. So what is
this really? This is Trey Lance understanding. I'm not getting
out of San Francisco. No one's gonna trade for me.
They're not gonna there there. I have no value, and
I am set for a quarterback battle with Brock Purdy
whenever he is healthy. That's how it's gonna go, Right,

(32:34):
The forty Niners are not gonna go sign another veteran
quarterback because it would just be stupid. They're not They
would just bring Jimmy Garoppolo back if they wanted to
do that, and they're not bringing them back. So yeah,
the Niners actually kind of step into a little bit
where it's like, Okay, we're gonna give Tray Lance a chance,
one last chance. He has to know this is his
last chance to stay healthy and win the job. He's
gonna get the lion share of the reps all through

(32:56):
the off season because Brock Purdy is recovering from from
his recovering from his injury. So what's gonna happen is, yeah,
Trey Lance and Brock Purty are gonna wind up in
some kind of battle, and whoever wins, the Niners are
gonna be fine because the other guy may wind up
being good. I would assume it's gonna be Tray Lance
starting the year off as the quarterback because it's gonna
take Purty a while to get back and going. But

(33:18):
it's gonna be it's gonna be a quick uh uh
hook for him if that happens, because if he starts
out poor, everybody sees what brock Purty just did getting
all the way to the NFC Championship game before he
got hurt. So it's gonna be a very quick thing.
Like tray Lance has to get this right away and
has to be okay with the pressure and the specter
of him, of brock Purtty behind him to get it going.

(33:38):
So that's how it's gonna go like that. That's how
things are gonna go with San Francis. All the San
Francisco magically need a quarterback, Brady and all these other
guys not happening. It'st tray Lance, it's brock Purty, that's
what they're doing. Yeah, you also had San Francisco with
the report of yeah, nobody's called for debo and no,
he's not getting traded anyway, so beat it. Uh No,
the quarterback position interesting, tray Lands stepped in it. Well

(34:00):
there he intended to or not. And again, you're you're
a big boy. You understand what all these emojis and
everything are gonna do, particularly in this day and age
of the NFL and after the year your team just
had and what brock Purty was able to do with
that offense surging once he came into the lineup before
the injury, and well, one of those games we all

(34:22):
want to forget. So we we look at the competition,
stay healthy, have an opportunity. Look, it's also the team
I'm sure would listen to calls you want to you
want to come based on the reputation and what you
saw in that one college year of Trey Lance, and
you want to try to be the ones to work
with him. Sure, you want to pony up a first

(34:43):
round pick, have had it, maybe a second round pick
that's certainly potentially on the table for Trey Lance. He
also recognizes where he's at in this continuum because he
hasn't put enough on tape to really make a be
a sailable piece for the forty niners of any kind
of substance, nor has he been able to convince them

(35:04):
that he's the guy. You're kind of a no man's land.
I mean, this is it, I mean, this is this
is it for Trey Lance. Like if he doesn't win
the job this year and play well and stay healthy,
that's it, Like like he's he's not going to be
a starter. He's not gonna be at the forty niners.
He hasn't played football in a long time, Like this
is it? Like this is his football? Hey, your entire
career as at stake this year, everything you've worked for,

(35:27):
this is it? Or teams are never gonna see you
as a starter and you're gonna be bouncing around the
league hoping to get a Geno Smith type shot at
some point. Well, but that's that's when when I've been
arguing all along. It's like the presumption that he was
going to be the guy. Okay, he could fight and
maybe win to be the guy. Or if Purdy's rehab
is slow and Lance gets an opportunity to roll into

(35:49):
the season more or less unopposed, than sure, yeah he's
the guy until he's not. But otherwise I would say
he's decided underdog. If you were to put odds on
it to be well, look it really it depends on
Purty because it's also so cost at this point, Jason,
one of those concepts we've talked about a lot. I

get it. They gave up a lot to go up
in trade for him, that's the past. You're you're working
for your three roster. You gave up at that point,
doesn't matter anymore. You're trying to win games this year.
But if Purty suck, we're not paying him anything. Man,
that's gonna be fat and thank him even less. Uh
the other quarterback today, this has made some news the

last twenty four hours. Jonathan Gannon new head coach of
the Arizona Cardinals. Everybody's going, who the hell is that guy?
Eagles d C. Anyway, during his introductory news conference, he
said he can't wait to get things going with Kyler
Murray and called him an elite quarter Well, he ran
down the hallway to see him working out. It was nice. Yeah,

yet it felt like it was behind the scenes w
w E scene at the end of the show. My god,
there he is. But this is another guy that is
in his last year with this team. If it doesn't work,
because now here's a new quote, here's a new head
coach that didn't draft Kyler Murray. There's already been questions
and and what kind of fit is this? He's gonna

he's hurt, and he's hurt again and now he's gonna
be out of it. If he doesn't have a step
up this year, guess who's gonna be on the training
blocking on a different team next year. It's gonna be
Kyler Murray. The I mean, I'm telling you Kyler Murray,
Trey Lance or two guys that they have to look
at this year and go, this is my year with
this team or I'm someplace else next year? Do I
really want to be someplace else? Or do I want

to be here? These are the teams that drafted me,
that believed in me. Do I want to try to
jump start my career someplace else because the Cardinals doesn't
work out, they'll start over, they'll go get a new
quarterback and they'll they'll figure things out from there. But
this is another big time year for Kylie, Like this
is it? Like for those two guys, this is it? Well,
but for Kyler you've got the money attached. You don't
add that for Trey Lance yet, Yeah, but you know

the money. So it's like it's not like, well, what's
very small a pool of people? Five quarterbacks drafted this
year plus another two to three or more next year, right,
