wearing sunglasses in the studio holiday holiday wearing sun Where
indoors you're wearing sunglasses. I've in full l a now.
You were not wearing sunglasses the entire time leading up
to us starting the sea without my prescription glasses, sunglass,
(01:07):
my other glasses. I was out with the kids because
it was a holiday, so I had my sunglasses I'm
driving around a sunny l a afternoon, and then I
didn't have time to go back and reclaim one of
my pairs of glasses. Slide. I'm wearing sunglasses so I'm
able to see the monitors and the look on your face.
Sunglasses in the house there you, Mike Harmon. Here, I
(01:28):
have sunglasses in the house full l a. And it's
not just it's like I'm at a Lakers game orde show.
Here I am. You're it's and it's not that you're
just wearing sunglasses. You're wearing the reflective sunglasses with the
blue lenses. So it's like, hey, I'm not just wearing sunglasses.
I'm saying, hey, look at me and the sunglasses I'm
wearing inside. I'm kind of a big day wearing them inside.
(01:50):
Wonder getting here? I don't know, I don't know. I
I'm wondering why. I don't know. You are the sunshine
of my life? Do you have I just called to
say I love you? Uh so, yeah, So Harmon's gonna
wear a sunla good daughter at all. It's gonna bother me.
It's it's at some point I'll take them off. But
it's really really close I'm fine. It's really gonna bother
(02:11):
anything on the monitor. That doesn't matter. Look, we're gonna
put We're gonna put Harry Potter and the half Blood
Princes on them. We're not all right? Sure we are.
We got we got a Star Wars marathon on, and
we got a Rocky marathon. We've got That's what's gonna
be The Artists formerly known as the All Star Game
on Unlimited Repeat. You know how it's tagged in here,
you're displaying Team Huke. Yeah, now I thought, Okay, really
(02:37):
they're really really bothering. Yes, they're really bothering me. They
really mean keep them on. I really are there. But
I don't know if you said to me, okay, Harmon
would have to wear these glasses the entire show tonight.
But it would mean that Jets wouldn't get Derek Carr.
It would be a toss up. It would be very
difficult because I'm looking at myself in the sunglass. How
do you look? I look great? I mean, you know,
(02:57):
I I look good. I mean you know sUAS well
sungo's I mean I have It's hard to look bad
like you get that, you know, it's it's the thinning
part of the sunglasses when you when you're when you're
not really close to your far away, it's doing that
thing where your head making sure. That's what why old
people take the selfies looking up at the camera, not
looking down at the track, danzig Er or anybody else.
(03:21):
Not only am I not sure? You also don't see
that I've got jowls. Yeah, no, no, no, but sunglasses
and say, okay, sunglasses look good. Though you look like
you know, you look like how do I explain this?
How you look like? At a couple of thirty seven guests,
Here's what it is feeling good? You look no, no,
you look like the the aging rock star who is
(03:42):
in for an interview somewhere and they don't know if
he's gonna be sober or not during the entire interview.
That's when when you talk about what you always question
when I come in. Anyway, when you talk to the
PR person, you say, hey, is he sober? I don't,
I don't know. I'm sleep Your guest is as good
as mine. I gotta take this phone. I can wear
these to cover the fact that the eyes do betray me. Man,
(04:07):
I don't sleep well, so I mean they're but I
look on. Some might think you know what it means.
I had a hard night. I had a hard night
where I couldn't sleep. Yeah, like like like you're like
you're a rock star from like the eighties, and it
was you haven't we had that those big song. Yeah,
but now, man, you do an interview with him, you
have no idea. I mean, well, I gotta keep him
(04:28):
guessing did a whole big thing. He kept kept calling
me Jeremy the whole time. His eyes aren't even open. Yeah,
he's been asleep the entire time. Bear may not be weekended, Bernie,
he's actually stuffed propped me up beside the jukebox. If
I die a little Joe Diffy late great Twitter, and
how about a Fresco Mike gets swollen sunglasses. So if
(04:49):
you want to hit us up on Twitter, that's where
we are. You can sign a picture out later and
show people out pretty I am. Yeah, Okay, if I
take a picture, you're gonna be like e T it's
gonna fall over the it's gonna be a flash in
the camera and it's gonna fall backwards. To come up
with some trademarkable like guess if harmon sober? I like
(05:09):
that as a new thing for the show, like every
night Harmon Sober take the under, I'll take the other. Uh. Now, look,
today is a day. Obviously we had, we had the holiday,
and hopefully we've all had a great holiday holiday, holiday,
holiday holiday. Um, but a lot of people have spent
a good portion of their holiday complaining about the NBA
All Star like that's been the big thing. What do
I want to I want to complain about the All
(05:31):
Star Game. I want to complain about how bad it is.
I want to complain that it's not competitive anymore. I
want to complain it's a big layoff. I want I
want to complain it's not a real game. I want
to complain. I want to post pictures of of of
defenders all the way on one side of the court.
Everybody wants to complain about the NBA All Star Julius
Randall really suck. That's not part of the complaint. OK. Really, really,
(05:58):
no one's complaining about stop but not out there. I
gotta deal with Derek Carr potentially being a jet I'm
not gonna sit here and put up your about Julius Randol.
I bought the jersey Frostburg. We need to figure out
how I'm gonna ask you know, how quickly we can
get it to arrive? What jersey? What jersey did you buy?
You know, did you buy Julius Randall Jersey Jersey? You
(06:20):
bought a Carmelo Anthony, Oh you bought it? You bought
a Derek car Jets jersey? Baby? Oh boy? Let me
see how fast might be able to burn that. There's
a lot of plastic and man, it's like burning any
new baseball cards. There's some weird stuff in plastics there.
(06:41):
But there's two things about the NBA All Star Game. Okay.
The first thing is this, and I really mean this,
don't watch it. If you don't like it, don't watch.
I like, that's right. I agree with ken advice. I
don't like it, don't watch. Right, If you don't like
the NIA All Star Game, don't watch. You have no
stake in this, all right. You can watch NBA All
Star Game or not watch the NBA All Star It's
(07:04):
not like you've invested money, and I don't like the
way the decisions that the company is be is making
and my investment is not what it used to be. Hey,
I get it. Then you got skin in the game.
I'm a little upset my investment. Uh, you know, the
the hundred and fifty dollars I bought in stocks. Now
it's it's not worth what I got a big say.
It's like people they go to water two games again
(07:25):
and then they complain that that's the one place where
I get into the load management. Yeah, Johnny, that comes
that one game. Not that I want to just miss
Johnny and his family that can afford only one game.
But the reality is they don't have they don't have
a lot of your money and your investment. It's it's
an it's absolute insanity that people want to complain about
(07:48):
the All Star Games because you don't have to watch it.
But you know what, you don't have to watch things, right,
And that's the second part is that, um, let me
just give you some reality. You gotta get used to
the new normal. And the new normal for All Star
Games is it's gimmicks every year now. The old way
they also, I tell you, I tell you all the
time the All Star Games, the era of the great
(08:08):
All Stars have come and gone. The great Major League
Baseball All Star Games have come and gone. When when
each side wanted to destroy the other, the NBA All
Star Games. Oh boy, when the East wanted to destroy
the West all the yes, that era happened and it
was great. But now all Star games have kind of
seen their day. So now what all the leagues are
doing to try to keep interested in them is every
(08:29):
year it's a gimmick. It's like any it's like any
company that's fighting for online traffic people to buy stuff.
We have to you know, Monday's thirty percent off day,
and Tuesday is gonna be free shipping day, and Wednesday
is gonna be off clearance items and anything to get
you in the door. Right now, you can't just put
out a website and say we're selling clothes and we're
selling something, Well, why am I buying from you when
(08:50):
I can get the same thing from Amazon or someplace else. Now,
what you need to find a way, and that's what
all Star games. Every year, it's we're gonna try to
do something different to try to get more eyeballs and
to how to keep interest level in it. Because there's
no way you're suddenly going to see all viewership of
the All Star Game go through the roof for the
NBA or for any other ones. But you won't want
to leach. You don't want to lose too many viewers
(09:11):
and see and see the product leaching from where it
used to be. So let's keep it closer to the
new normal. The new normal is, hey, let's keep the viewers.
Let's keep as close as many people who you have.
Let's change what we have every year to keep people
new people watching, and maybe some people that didn't watch
last year, we'll watch this year. Oh they're doing this format.
Oh I haven't watched a couple of years, but I'll
watch on Sunday because I kind of like that format.
(09:31):
And if that's not your thing, maybe it's somebody else's.
That's all Star Games now, it's a new normal. The
old way is not coming back. Okay, they're they're not
going to be fighting tooth and nail and and committing
hard stiles to send guys to the free throwing. That's gone. Okay,
you that's gone. You've had time to get used to it.
It's gone. It's not coming back. That's gone. It's gone.
(09:51):
It's gone. I don't know if I'm being clear enough.
It's gone, my car. But games who used to watch
it would be all right, here's maybe a representative for
the Sixers, Jordan's and Celtics against the Lakers starting five.
That's that's the All Star Game that you grew up on, Lakers, right,
mix it and mix it, you know what I mean?
(10:11):
Here's a Patrick but but the point was there there
were set up rivalries based on playoff histories. Here you're
just throwing stuff up against the wall to see if
you can get anybody to wag their tongues a little bit.
And guess what it worked. I mean, we watched it
in the NHL. How many times have they done a
variation on All Star setups? Who's been going on for
(10:32):
twenty years? Al Right, it's East West not anymore? How
about it's US versus the world world, but it's North
American versus the world? About North America versus South America.
How about Eastern hemisphere versus Western hemispo But it's been
every permutation, including the captains and everything else. States were
the best pizza versus States are the best steak. Nicely done.
Sometimes there's an overlap. You gotta decided where we have
(10:54):
the Chicago players and they with the pizza and they
with the steak. I don't understand. Well, we fortunately they
had four participants, so they were allowed to draft between
the four of them. But you go through it last year.
I mean you're talking craziest numbers and scoring all the
way through. The one thing I could say a permutation
of this, which would I think the wildly popular is
(11:15):
if in the fourth quarter you suddenly revealed that the
in game, you know, no defense contest. There's been a
dumb contest going all along, and they stopped the game
with six minutes remaining or nine minutes or maybe at
the end of the third quarter to say, now is
your time to vote? Was John moranch three sixty better
than Lebron's opening iconic dunk in the first minute? Yeah,
(11:37):
and for that and leanness lay in and then he
walked to these I've done, I've done my head. I
have to go. But like that. Some people will like it,
some people vote, some people won't come back to watch.
Some people know it's all let's just keep what we have.
That's where instead of let's grow, grow, grow, which is
what businesses do. This is one of the case of
let's keep what we have. And that's all the All
(11:58):
Star games trying to do. Here long for the flag
football game watching that so I can watch Derek Card
do great again and think, oh that Jets are gonna
sign up because he's really good at that. Wait for
that jersey shows up. Let's go, Joe Douglas. Why did
you want the Derek cart boy? Did you see that
flag football? Did you see when he hit that forty
time and time again downfield? He really competition was accurate.
(12:20):
The skills competition. I don't know what he had quarterback
that's got a wingspan that far before he hit that target.
I mean really, so you can't ask the All Star
Game to be something. It's a corporate weekend. That's where
we're at. These guys are on a week's vacation. They've
been able to extend the break. Right, Clippers don't play
again on Friday, We'll get back into their. Lakers play
a week from Thursday. Plenty of time for Lebron to
(12:43):
rest that finger, Mike. Corporate weekends aren't that crappy? Well,
but post Malone was good? Was he? I don't know?
I thought he was all right, but the video of
it looked okay. Look we can find him at Franks
and Suns though, right, ty shirts there all that, I'm there.
There you go alright, we can get him to show
up and come hang out. Okay, there's a reason he's
(13:05):
there all the time, Twitter and out about a Fresca.

(13:26):
saying that someone who loves the All Star Game. I'm like,
I could take or leave it. But okay, I get it.
I get what it is. You love every one of
Julius Randall's bricks. You know, I was waiting saying, you know,
next year, when Jalen Brunson's here, then I'm gonna really
pay attack. I built built a mansion on the three point.
At some point, you just have to accept it for
what it is, Like a lot of things in your
life unless you can change them. Coming up next, am

Is Aaron Rodgers out of his darkness Retreat? Does Daniel
Jones really want forty five million dollars a year with us?
Now on the hotline? Nobody better? Longtime NFL insider Odyssey
(14:54):
The Washington Post. It's Jason Locke and for at J.
What's happening? Man? What's going on gentlemen about it, all right,
So let's start here. I really thought by the end
of the night tonight we were going to get the
headline Jets agreed to terms with Derek Carr. Is this
going to happen? Yeah, I think it's I think it
is going to happen. Um. I wrote about it at
(15:14):
the Washington Post, has probably been five or six weeks
ago heading into the playoffs, where I kind of did
a column laying out where I thought all these quarterbacks
were going. And UM, people I were talking to around
the league at that point in time, we're pretty convinced
that the best bet for Car and the best bet
for the Jets was for those two to hook up.
(15:35):
And I still think that's where that's going. And I
think Rogers are gonna end up replacing Car in Vegas. Um,
And yeah, I think it happens sooner rather than later.
I mean, if you're Derek Carr, right, you you you've
got the market um monopolized right now. Right You're the
only game in town at the quarterback position. Everybody else
(15:57):
is still waiting to find out if they get tagged,
if they get did or you know, if whatever is
going to happen in the league year if they're gonna
be able to negotiate with all the teams and they're
only gonna be able to negotiate with some of the teams?
Am I on a non exclusive tag? Am I on
exclusive tag? In the meantime, it's uh, it's a Derek
(16:18):
car show. So yeah, I expect Woody to close that out.
See Jason's now either very excited or just stunned into silence.
I'd be happy that it's not Zach Wilson. I asked myself,
Am I happy who the jet signing? First question is
he Zach Wilson? If the answer is no, I can
be excited a little bit. He's actually drawn flow charts
in the studio here, Jason. That's that's fine. I mean, hey, look,
(16:42):
I can't imagine the suffering that Gang Green has endured. Uh,
you know over the last I don't know, twenty years,
thirty years, forty years. We could take it all the
way back to Joe Amath right calling this shot sure
a long time ago. Hey, hey, listen, I had the
fast Lane back to back AFC title games with Rex
(17:04):
Ryan and then it's been a vast Barons least Land
ever since. Yeah, yeah, and even then it didn't really
you know, the whole lot, right, It ended up coming
down to a butt fumble like a couple of years later,
and then that was the end of that. And then
when you waited a decade later to see Gino star
in another uniform, Right, they're going to get a deal
(17:24):
done with him, right, I mean in the mid thirties
or something like that is where we Yeah, yeah, I
think it'll be north of the non exclusive franchise tag
for quarterbacks, but not but not obscenely north of that.
And look, if they have to put the tag on them,
you know, to preserve their rights to finalize that deal,
(17:44):
and so be it. But yeah, I would be shocked
if Gino is not back in Seattle. And if we
don't get closure on that, Um, what March seventh is
the deadline to put the tag on. If it's not
March seventh, it'll I believe it will certainly be before
the start of the league year a week after that. Now,
(18:04):
it would be kind of funny if all of a
sudden came strutting back into the Jets facility like you
were Connor McGregor. Yeah, I wouldn't be too worried about that. No, No,
I think Gino is perfectly comfortable, um, hanging out in
the Pacific Northwest. Hey, So, speaking of x Jet, we
mentioned his name is Rex Ryan gonna get back? Is
(18:26):
he gonna get this gig? Denver? He has a very
legitimate shot. You know, if you look at Sean Payton
and sort of his history as a head coach, the
defensive coordinator has generally had you know, head coaching shops
or someone who had an extreme sort of pedigree. He
(18:49):
hasn't really been one to let that side of the
ball go to you know what I mean, just anybody
or you know, some up and comer or somebody who
hadn't really kind proved their worth at the at the
NFL level. So Yeah, the longer this drags on, I
am becoming increasingly convinced that this is very serious. And
(19:13):
you know, Sean is very open to this, and I
think it's a little m drastic, right, I mean Rex
has been out for a while now. Um, but look,
Sean is really smart and he understands the ins and
(19:34):
outs of building the culture right and the things that
go into this beyond just the axes and the ohs
and and sort of like what he wants his sort
of team persona to be. So if he does go
this route, I think he more than deserves the benefit
of the doubt. Jason spent show with me Mike Armen
(19:54):
here Fox Sports Radio. I'll join on the hotline as
we are each week, our buddy Jason and four one
oh five seven The Fan Odyssey, The Washington Post, longtime insider,
NFL analyst at Jason Locke and f where you find
him on Twitter. So you use the term obscenely north
earlier in talking about contract demands for Gino Smith, is
(20:16):
that what you would describe the reports on Daniel Jones. Well, look,
if your look I think Daniel Jones is really well
positioned here. Like that kid played his ass off, he
made major strides. The Giants have been looking for someone
to do what he did for I mean really since
(20:38):
Eli started really falling into disrepair, which was back when
they benched him for Gino. I mean, I'm all enough
to remember they went out to Oakland and played the
game and Gino got benched for I'm sorry, Eli got
benched for Gino, and then they took it back a
week later because the owners started freaking out, but like
it's been a long time since that went down, and
they've been looking for a true winning quarterback since then.
(21:02):
I think him with dabl it went better than anybody
could have expected, and they won so many games that
they're not obviously in position right to just draft somebody
in the top ten this year because I'm not picking
anywhere near the damn top ten, and they probably won't
be the year after that either. So this kid can play.
I mean, he learned. And I was a Jones skeptic,
(21:24):
like I thought Geentleman overdrafted him. I had a lot
of issues and concerns, but the bottom line is he's
now in the right hands. He's now with the right people.
He had a crap cast around him this year, and
he still found ways to help them win way more
games than anybody thought they would. And he did it
with his arms, and he did it with his head,
and he did it with his legs, and it's it's
(21:47):
a it's a really legitimate skill set. So I mean,
there's a lot of guys like he's way better than
Aaron Rodgers right now, Like that's not even a debate,
Like Aaron Rodgers is done, he's washed. He was garbage
most of this year. He'll be garbage with the Raiders
next year, and he's gonna make sixty million dollars like
(22:09):
Russell Wilson, you know, is making fifty plus and and
and he was hot garbage last year. Like you start
to look at what it costs, what what the sort
of you know, entry fee is into the land of
top twelve, top six. Look at how much money Kirk
Cousins has made. Right, Like, right guy, right place, right time.
(22:35):
I don't think it's their car. Made forty million dollars
last year and got bench for Jared Stidham the last
two weeks of the year. Like, I don't think it's
crazy that if the exclusive rights franchise tag on a
quarterback is whatever forty four point seven is Daniel Jones worth,
probably these guys are making. Oh it's just look at
(22:58):
what they're making from the family contracts, from the Thursday
night Amazon deal, from the over the air TV deal,
from the new Direct TV deal, Like that's close to
four hundred and fifty million dollars. A team, A team
before they sell a jersey, before they sell a hot dog,
before they sell a ticket. Yeah, he's one of it.
(23:21):
It's New York, it's Gotham. Are they having a quarterback forever?
And who the hell else are they paying? Who are
they paying? Who's the big ticket item on the team.
Tell me they're gonna have to pay dextra law. I
think there's some dudes they're probably gonna have to pay.
But it's New New York, it's the Giants, it's the
big team in New York. And they got nothing payroll.
(23:45):
He did in the middle of his team in New York.
Soon do you just watch Jay? I think everything you
just said Daniel Jones would take to his new agent
because that's gonna get him that and you can get
a cut of that. How much were they paying Eli
six years ago? Weren't they paying him twenty five something
like that years ago? To lose his job to Gino Smith?
(24:08):
And that we're freaking out about? Who cares? Do they
have a quarterback? Can he play? Can he execute in
the pocket? Can he execute outside the pocket? You know,
like can you read the defense? Like does he protect
the football? Protected the hell football this year? And I
think he had it in him, But like, I mean,
(24:29):
it's the quarterback. It's the quarterback. Think how about how
many quarterbacks are making more than that or around that, Like,
do you think that Prescott's better than him right now?
I don't imagine if he had that Prescott's supporting cast.
He had no offensive line, and he had a running back.
(24:50):
He had the tight end Bellinger when he was healthy,
which was on and off. He had a bunch of
receivers that they sort of developed on the fly, and
even the second half of the season right up and
they made the playoffs and won a playoff game. I mean,
I don't know what am I missing? All Right, one
(25:11):
more quarterback for you here, j We we've talked a
lot on the show. We know this divorce between Lamar
Jackson and the Ravens is coming. The last week it
was O c S that were interviewed. We're told, we
can't guarantee you we'll have Lamar. He was said, Oh,
I'll will will help, will involve you in the hiring
of our OC happen. So that didn't happen. So so
(25:31):
what's the timeline, Like could this happen fast? And can
the Ravens be overwhelming an offer or are they going
to play it out? Hey, we're gonna franchise you. You
you show everybody, you don't really want to be here,
and you be the bad guy, and then we'll trade you.
What do you see? Think it's happening soon? I mean, look,
they have till much seventh to execute a long term
deal or place the franchise tag on him. Um, they're
(25:56):
not going to execute a long term deal, so they're
gonna place a tag on them, whether it's exclusive non exclusive,
and at that point in time, they can't play this
game of we'll play it out. So July fifteen and
see if he takes us on the table. He's played
for nothing, He's played five years for thirty three million dollars.
He will show up half a day before the start
(26:17):
of the season, sign that tag and say, yeah, you
know me forty five for this year. And I wasn't
there for O T A S with the new O C.
And I wasn't there for many camp for the new OC.
And I wasn't even ever training camp with the new OC.
But let's go and see what it looks like. They
can't they can't run that risk. And I think they're
done with him, and I think he's done with him,
(26:38):
And so we'll let this charade play out for another
fifteen days and then they'll tag him and at that
point in time they're going to trade him a S
A P because they're gonna want to use those draft
picks starting this year. Um, they're not gonna mess around,
you know, they're not gonna let this drag into the spring.
They can't. They can't the fact that it's on you know,
(27:01):
he played out all five years a player of this magnitude.
They didn't give one penny over what the cb A stipulated,
and they could have. They could have added incentives, they
could have sweetened the pot, they could have done any
number of things to say, we know you're better than
what this c BA says you're worth. We know you're
better than your draft spot, you know, and where you
were selected, and we're going to reward you for that,
(27:23):
and we're gonna build up goodwill with you, and we're
not going to try to take advantage you because you
don't have an agent, and we're not going to plan
b S story after BS story after BS story in
the media because we have a whole PR department and
you don't even have an agent. Like there's so many
things they could have done to like exhibit like scintilla
of goodwill, and they did none of that. So now
(27:45):
chickens are roosting, they're about the hatch, and we'll see
what Jacoby Brissette or Ryan Tannehill look like as the
quarterback of the Ravens next year. It'll probably be pretty crappy.
Twitter at Jason Locke and Fara always bringing the fire
to see his latest on the Washington Post as well.
Jay is always buddy. Thank you so much, man. We'll
(28:05):
talk to you next week. Thank you, guys, be good
woof man. Ryan Tannehill starting quarterback, Baltimore Ravens, Jacoby Brissette
starting quarterback, but didn't even say Tyler Huntley starting Pro bowler.
Tyler Huntley didn't even say that. That's always on his
name forever. It's like you're an Oscar nominee probe bold.
(28:26):
When you're a president, you keep the title. You don't
just lose. Man. That's unbelievable. Just think about that happening.
I'm telling you that soon. Look we we I've told
you for a year this is how it's going. If
the sides really wanted to stay together, would be staying together.
But they don't. They don't. Maybe that's why Derek Carr
(28:49):
is still not a jected to wait a minute, we
got some irons in the fire with Aaron. Rodger's still
got smines. Fine with them, Jack, But I said that
was going to be the case, that would be the
one thing that would delay it. Always nobody is making
a decision. So why do we have to make the
Jets of the team that's gonna They're gonna make see
how everything goes in the off season. The Jets are
the first domino to fall Rogers in his darkness retreat.
(29:11):
Lamar doesn't have an agent, and you've got I mean,
how many teams are coming after Derek Carr? So you
you are if you're the Jets, only one. Only one
is right the car. That's my point is normally i'd
say you want to have a first mover advantage in
the world. You don't need one here. You can sit
(29:32):
back and play the weighty game like everybody else. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm
Pacific Fox Sports Radio. The Chasing Smith Show with My
best friend Mike Harmon live from the tirerac dot Com
Studios Harmon wearing sunglasses in the studio tonight. Very superstitious. Yes, yes,
(29:57):
you know what Derek are to the Jets. We're writing
his We're gonna we're gonna get to that jerk. Okay, no,
I'm not really known, not really. Bob no, not no,
not at all, Bob, No, no, Jason, Jason, No no,
it's exciting. No, no, it's a new quarterback. It's not
if well, okay, it hasn't happened. Don't think it. Don't
(30:19):
think tysher is breaking news. Derek Carter, the Jets happened,
get stopped. You can't do that. The Los Angeles, the
Los Angeles Racard. Now we're really working alright, so I
don't get in trouble. Here's hot Stetler. Look so Chetch
done it. Chetch has got Marcus sal And what a
great trade. This is gonna be great. And rewind we
(30:42):
got Lile Alsado. This is what are you doing? A
new bid? If Mike and Jason were on the era
during this era, we have if we did like a
podcast for every month of sports like in the eighties,
we would be like, oh man, uh now the idea, man,
make that happen. There is big news today in the NBA.
(31:02):
We now know where Russell Westbrook's next destination is going.
Big trade last week he is going to He's He's
going to join the l A Clippers, And this was
something that was rumored a little bit and then it
was kind of a little cold water was poured on it.
But now, as agents says, Russell Westbrook is heading to
(31:23):
the Clippers, and I'm gonna stud you with this. I
really like this. I like this, And there there's a
big reason why I really like Westbrook to the Clippers.
The Clippers need something. They don't have enough. They're playing
a little bit better, they're healthy now, but they need
a little bit more. I like this because Westbrook's seen
(31:44):
the reality of his contract and NBA life right now
after the craziness with the Lakers, right, all of this
that came through with I'm a starter. I'm one of
the big three. I'm not one of the big three,
but I'm a starter. No. Now I'm coming off the
bench and I'm happy, but I'm not happy, and I'm
being yanked back and forth. It was never a great fit, right.
(32:05):
It was a bad fit because the Lakers coaching staff
didn't know what to do with him. He didn't know
how to adjust with the Clippers. Now he's got clarity.
He got traded. He's say seeing his basketball mortality. I'm
thirty four years old. I want to keep playing. What
do I do? Okay, the Clippers are gonna bring me in.
I'm gonna come off the bench. I'm gonna run the
second unit, which I did pretty well with the Lakers.
(32:26):
Now there's a lot of baggage there, which is part
of it. But this is a new start. It's a
new locker room, and he has a chance to, hey,
not jump started his career, but kind of keep it
going a little bit, kind of like how Carmelo Anthony
kept it going for a couple of years after we
all thought he was done, you know, three or four
years ago. So but that's what he has a chance
to do. So I'm believing that he can do that
because he has no choice but to accept this role.
(32:46):
And the Clippers talked him a lot about, Hey, this
is what it's gonna be. This is what we expect
from you. Coming into a situation new with expectations. That's great.
He's not coming in with any variables. He's not I'm
not I'm not sure how I'm gonna be used. There
were too many variables and so much unknown with the Lakers,
and it got so messy. But now it's a clean slate.
You're talking about twenty five games and he's gonna come
(33:08):
off the bench. He's easy to assimilate. I like this move.
This could be a big uh springboard for the Clippers,
and if not, they can move on pretty easy. So yeah,
I like this well. I think the last point you
made there is is the key to it is that
there's not a heavy investment here. You're expected to play well.
And if he doesn't assimilate, man, this is like the
(33:29):
board and Star Trek is I look at you looking
like Lobot out of the Star Wars, but I'll jump
Star Trek for a second. Resistance is futile. Okay, At
this point, you gotta get along and go along with
the way the Clippers work. Now you're gonna get heavy
minutes because if you think Kawhi Leonard and Paul George
are playing heavy minutes every night, glad you're here, us
(33:50):
only can play like ten eleven minutes. No, no, we
need you. I'm not down with that. Okay, very good,
we're gonna need you a lot more keep the line moving.
But you you've got a roster and as long as
the recognition is there, as he signs his name to
said contract, of the expectations are not that you're part
of the Big three. Do we hope that you come
(34:11):
in with some of those performances and give us a
lift off the bench and spots starts or whatever you
do to where we have some operational efficiency. And that's
the key word, the operational efficiency, because he certainly wasn't
with the Lakers, and fault has to go all around.
I can't give it all the Darvin Ham and what
Lebron and A d and everybody else, you know, what
(34:32):
they were cooking up. He has to shoulder some of
that responsibility because some of the shots he was taking,
some of the decisions with the basketball were things you'd
be yelling at your daughter and her team about coaching
him up, uh, you know, in various sporting activities, And
I would with my kids like, really, that's what we're doing,
all right? Have we not learned beyond that? So yeah,
(34:54):
I think it's it's it's a good experiment. It's good
for us because he stays in l A, which means
he a Woik can continue their relationship and that's good
for us. And that's the other thing. Never underestimate the
power of being able to. I'm going to stay in
the same city and say blank you man, I can
still play twenty two games. Watch out appropriate song to
exit with him? I like him, he's standing. I know
(35:15):
it's insane, right, but I do Twitter. And how about
a fresca, Mike, it's swollen, dumb. I feel ever saw
to like I have a fever right now that maybe
it's those low body headphones. More big quarterback news for
me and the guy in sunglasses coming up next right here,
Jackson and Mike Fox. Derek Carr has just been traded
