live from the ti irac dot Com studios. Tirect dot
com will help you get there ti irac dot Com,
tirect dot com, tirect dot com. So you should have
(00:46):
been in here tonight, harm because I know we we missed.
It was in yesterday while you sat at home and well, listen,
I didn't want to fight the rain. You wanted to
was that time I was well when you had I
thought you leave like eight hours before the show. You
always say, oh, I can't get anytime. I'm gonna leave
so early it was raining. Its one hundred percent of
my silver? Hey, how much spangled? How much. Just let
(01:09):
me tell a funny story where that guy. I almost
started screaming at that promo that they just played from
last night? Why were you mad that I was at
home your man already? Why why are you so mad?
Stand because it was a pejorative that I was supposed
to come in again. I just said, we missed each other.
I said, we missed each other, and you're like, you
decided to sit at home last night, right, like I
didn't do the show and I just sat on the
(01:29):
couch scratching myself, going, yeah, let Army both I'm gonna do.
Maybe I did, but you missed Dave Justice was just
you get on the show with Rob Parker. It was
kind of cool, like hey, and I was so excited
because you know, Moneyball is Zoe and Mine. It's our movie,
and I'm like, oh my god, Zoe I just met
Dave Justice and she goes was dying writing Justice dching,
(01:50):
you know, one of the big lots of the movie.
And yeah, I think he kinda was. It was pretty exciting.
I had a lot of questions. I don't know that
they would be uh answered in cheery spirit. So wow,
we see what happened today? Are you okay today, No, say,
because you gotta ask why didn't they feature the pictures more?
(02:11):
What do you want? Didn't they feature the bill? All
there was was pictures when they were playing. That's all
they had. They didn't talk about them in the movie.
They made it sound like they were going out there
with a bunch of bumps. Yeah, but I don't. I don't.
I don't think the Justice had creative control over how
Moneyball went. I don't think Art Howe had creative control
or what turned out much differently for Art how I
(02:32):
don't Philip Seymour Hoffman, I mean, you can't be cast
any better. Yeah, no, but I don't think Art Howe
was enjoyed being cast of the villain who didn't believe
in Moneyball. He even said afterwards, he goes, I don't
think I got another job in Major League Baseball because
of that movie, because people know what successful it was.
People saw successful the strategy was, and whatever owners saw
(02:52):
it and watched and said, oh okay, Well he wasn't
on board. So maybe he's not. He's not with new
programs or ideas we're gonna have. He's to want to
do his own thing. We're not hiring him because that's
how Philip sy wire hop and portrayed him. Yeah, it's
a it's a bad job by the by the whole production,
because really, did it ever get over? I mean you're competitive,
but you didn't get over? Well, dude, the a'st I mean,
(03:13):
come on, the a's were coming from absolutely nothing and
they found a way to make it to ALCS after ALCS.
That's it's pretty big. It's a pretty big deal. Hag
a banner. Look where they are now, they're gonna move
to Vegas now used to You're still so mad? You said,
what why? Why? What happened to? What happened today? Nothing?
He didn't find traffic, he didn't read some positivity. It
is a beautiful Tuesday. No, no, no, no, the opposite
(03:37):
of positive. Oh man, I'm I'm all positive. Really, the
blood started boiling. One they played the promo for our
show was you're you're justin Fields scared day? Oh you sorry?
I'm sorry about the bears, buddy, I'm sorry. They're scared
about trading or not trading, justin Fields so scared. It's
a horror movie. I'm gonna open this closet and that
might that might have been washed. Derek Carter that dealers
(04:00):
tell the one nobs worse. Yeah. Yeah, you come up
with something that you do. You come up with something.
You got ragmatism, babe, come up with something just just
you're you're whole thing. You're opposite me, that's all your whatever.
He's a ob gets gonna be open. And sometimes you're
right and you're like the broken clock, that's right twice
a day. I know you are, but one am I
(04:26):
I'm just bar buddy. I'm sorry. Your team's afraid. I'm
sorry the Bears are afraid of anything. They're afraid. We
don't want to trade, and we don't want to keep.
We just want to move out of it. Beca's too
much pressure. We don't want to pick number one overall.
Bing is gonna make it look like we know what
we're doing. So we're gonna trade down and keep getting
picks and picks and picks and picks. Eventually they're gonna
trade all the way down. He made build a roster.
They're gonna they're gonna trade all the way down, and
eventually they're gonna own every pick. In the seventh round,
(04:48):
we pick we pick one through thirty two. In the
seventh round. What about all those other players, Hey, you
know one thirty, they'd be fighting the Patriots for all
those guys on that last day of the draft. No,
it's a beautiful day. It's a good day, be alive,
good day to be active and out and about. And
I mean watching John Moran highlight films never gets old. Yeah,
So for all, the Lakers are back with no Lebron,
(05:10):
no DeAngelo Russell. Not quite. The Grizzlies blow out the
Lakers one twenty one to one O nine. This game
was never really in doubt. In the fourth quarter. John
Morant goes for thirty nine, ten assists, ten boards, a
triple double. Meanwhile, Anthony Davis twenty eight and nineteen for
the Lakers. But the Lakers playing without the two of
their three best players, this was kind of a pretty
(05:32):
easy result to see, especially since the Grizzlies. Look, you
know how good the Grizzlies are. Even though they've been struggling,
they're still the top of the Western Conference. This is
an expected game for the Lakers. It's almost like it's
a freebee, Like, Okay, they've been playing well, but here
they are. They got back to back games. This is
one that's not going to go their way because Memphis
is just the better team and they're coming in on
the road, and now, how are they going to get
used to the minutes now without Lebron at least for
(05:53):
the next couple of weeks, because we found out today
Lebron is going to be reassessed in two weeks, not
coming back in two weeks. He will be reassessed by
the team in two weeks, which means he gets reassessed
in two weeks. Maybe he's a week after that, two
weeks after that. No matter what timetable you're looking at,
he's going to at least half of the remaining games
(06:14):
that the Lakers have as they try to make their
big playoff push to get into the play In Round
at least in the Western Conference. But let me say this,
the Lakers can. Here's the thing. It seems like it's
doom and gloom for the Lakers right now without Lebron James,
but the rest of this schedule is really easy. You
(06:37):
and I went over it the other night about how
if one thing happens, they can stay afloat and they
can be a team that makes the play in Round
because none of the teams that are seven through twelve,
are any are really good. No one's gonna go on
a big run and suddenly, boy, look at that that's
(06:57):
seven seed. Now it doesn't happen. This is how the
end of the season goes, the last twenty some odd games.
If you're a five hundred team, you stay a five
hundred team. No one gets really hot late, no one
gets suddenly, we're so much better than we were. We
all of a sudden. That very rarely happens. Most teams
that are not very good, they stay not very good.
Teams in the twelfth spot don't suddenly win eight out
of nine and suddenly here they are in the seventh spot.
(07:19):
So there is that. But this is one thing can happen,
and it's such a big deal because this is his
biggest challenge that he's had since he's been a Laker,
his Laker future, his legacy, his image, maybe what the
Lakers want to do in the off season. Does he
stay a Laker or not? It all comes down to
can Anthony Davis be the guy he was in mid
(07:41):
November to mid December. Can he be that guy that's
suddenly when Lebron got hurt and he missed a couple
of games. He was scoring forty at night, twenty rebounds,
and it was this is the Anthony Davis we thought
we'd get for the entirety of his career. And he
did it for about a month and then things got
a little bit back to normal and Anthony Davis was
still really good, but he was like he was for
that month when he just picked up the team and
(08:02):
put it on his shoulders, and it was amazing to
watch him every single night fulfill that potential and the
talent that you know that he has had for the
majority of his career. If he does it, if he's
that Anthony Davis, Lakers will win a bunch of games
and nelse they'll be in the thick of that seven
through ten slot for the playing slot, and he will
secure next season and beyond as a Laker. He will
stay a Laker. But this is his time. If he
(08:24):
falters now and he doesn't impact the games and the
Lakers fall out of the playoff race and Lebron James
doesn't get back in time enough to help quote save
it for them, this is gonna be it for Anthony Davis.
And they're going to say, you know what, it's just
not going to happen for us, and we have to
look to move on and we have to figure out
another big one or two to pair up with Lebron
to try to figure out how to navigate the season
(08:47):
and make it back into the playoffs. This is his
entire Laker future is on the line. He can do it.
We've seen him do it before. But he's got to
do it or it's gonna be you know what, we waited,
We waited, we signed, you did a lot of things.
We win the championship that was three years ago. We
need a little bit more from you now. This is
this is his future on the line. He comes up
big or he's gonna wind up be in a different
(09:07):
uniform next year. Yeah, I mean he goes twenty eight
nineteen tonight. Great start, but but but in the end
it is difficult because it was a great team. So
it's hard. But that's just it, right. You navigate the
schedule as you can. The big thing for him is
to just be available. The numbers are gonna be there
if if he's actually on the court, and that's the
biggest test here in the final twenty games of the
(09:28):
season is can he show that he can stay healthy
with the weight of the world on him. Right, They've
got a number of ancillary parts that they brought in
and that's what made it intriguing as we came rounding
out of the weekend and the win over Dallas and
then awaited word on Lebron's foot and as of now
we still don't know anything. Right, you got him in
(09:50):
a walking boot. That's really the only assessment, and then
in two weeks it's a reassessment on Liz Frank or
is it planner Fasciis always want to those fun words
to spell because you gotta remember the double eye. But
all of those things that you feared are coming true.
And for Anthony Davis, who already looked like he was
a bit salty with it all right, as much as
(10:13):
our guy Dan Woike talked about, you know, some of
their candid conversations at all, you're still having the body language,
the back and forth of watching the run up to
the record that he just didn't look like a guy
that it was happy where he was right. There were
just a number of instances, including being on the sideline
(10:37):
for the shot, where all right, he could have rather
been anywhere else because the losses were piling up. The
other thing is it's also an indictment on the Lakers
when you know your two guys have trouble staying healthy
and staying on the court together, to make a move
with twenty three games left in the season, I mean,
that's just dopey. Ye had all sorts of time and
(10:59):
then you final round out your roster and maybe maybe
you couldn't find a suitor for the eventual buyout of
Russell Westbrook and such, but it really you could have
had a much longer run up for what was inevitable.
Not that Lebron would necessarily miss what was the remainder
of the year, but that he would miss time. If
(11:21):
it's not like I'm asking or looking for something that
I don't think he can do. Right, I'm not saying, okay,
now you got to step up at Wait wait a minute,
wait a minute, I've not done this before. We've seen
him do it, right, We've seen him do it. We've
seen him be this kind of player earlier this year.
But yeah, but they didn't win. It's just but it
doesn't matter. I mean, you need him to be a
matter now. No, Well, the thing is that was a
(11:42):
different team. Then you've revamped the entire roster. You've brought
a new players that are having different roles and maybe
they fit better than they did earlier the season, because
I think everybody would be agreement what the Lakers were
doing just didn't work. So now at the trade deadline,
you brought a new players. There's a new energy, and
maybe Ad can be that guy and be the player
he was And with the supporting cast being a little
bit better, a little bit different, little bit different skill sets,
(12:04):
things can work out a little bit better and so
and we've seen him do it. So yeah, if it's
nights like tonight, hey, everything's gonna be all good. Tonight
was a night. Okay, Well, here's your first night without
Lebron and you're playing against one of the top five
teams in the NBA. That's going to be a tough
six teams. I forgot about the Knicks, so it's gonna
be a tough thing. So tonight it's like okay, but
he's still had a big game. Now, now the schedule
(12:26):
becomes more manageable, you don't really have great teams coming up.
He should be able to lead them to enough victories
to ensure that they make in that playing round. He
certainly can do it, especially with the team being a
little bit better, because we saw since the deadline they
have improved. But it's really about about where the breaking
point is for the Lakers with him. Is that? Okay,
(12:49):
everything that's gone on, we've waited for Anthony Davis. He
was with Lebron. They both wanted Russell Westbrook. It didn't
work out. It looks like maybe there's some things behind
closed doors. He didn't stand up for Lebron on when
Lebron broke the all time scoring record, and everybody likes
to think that everything is cool, but it just doesn't
seem like everything is the same, like a d has
thought of the same way as he was before. So
(13:10):
I think the Lakers are looking at this now like, Okay,
let's see it man, forty million dollar man, let's see
you do it. We knew this was going to happen
when we got Lebron, that you were eventually we're gonna
still slowly start taking over as the alpha, as the one,
and now we got to see it. And if you
don't see it the next twenty games, it's gonna be
that that sea change where it's you know what, We're
(13:31):
just not going to see it. We've had him out
for four years. We're not going to see it. Let's
move on. He's got a year and an option left
on his contract. That's tradeable. He's thirty years old. Somebody
will take him for the next couple of years and
we'll try to rebuild the team a different way. Well,
I remember there was some speculation at the deadline that
and everything goes anything and everything make Lebron happy, which
(13:52):
was his move to bring him in when he was
running things the other side. Either way, I think April tenth,
we're talking about juice boxes an orange slide. Oh, I
like juice boxes and orange slices. That's fine, just saying
I think we're putting a bow on the year and
wondering what the off season brings. But that see, But
the thing is juice boxes and orange slices like the
(14:13):
middle of the game snack. It's not the like they
got the big spread after the game, like that's Hey,
we're talking about going out for pizza and everybody's saying
tearful goodbyes and exchanging phone numbers like the middle of
the game. No, no, no, these are guys getting their
stuff delivered on their doorsteps, like Taylor Luan oh a day.
All right, there's there's no hanging out. It's and and
make sure the orange juice is organic and it's and
(14:35):
it's no pulp. And listen the orange juiceide drink. It
costs thirteen dollars a gallon. Okay, so just make sure
that's the orange juice. And the oranges that are brought
to this brought to the game because I can't have
any oranges that might have any kind of pesticides in
them or not. I mean the oranges for everybody else
or not for me. I need those oranges and need
that orange juice. I certainly um got an expensive taste.
I mean I remember when we were in Vegas. You know,
(14:56):
I had to get that TV twelve sixteen dollars movie.

a huge mistake a few minutes ago, and I want
to rectify that right now because I was very upset
with how we opened the show tonight, and I should
have opened by saying, Hey, everybody, Happy Mandalorian Eve, because
it's Happy Mando Eve today, So I want everybody, Hey,
(18:09):
it's almost like Christmas is coming in a few hours
because the next season The Mandalorian starts streaming tomorrow. Yeah,
I don't remember the last one, and saw have to
revisit Darth Vaders. Luke's dad. You find out and then
find out that the Mandalorian is Luke's like half brother
and they'd been related. They had that really weird Thanksgiving
dinner on tattooing when all they did was they couldn't
(18:29):
have enough moisture for the food, so it was just
a lot of just sand they ate. Was really yeah,
it was really tense. Mandalorian left. He got mad. Remember
he went, he went and smoked that cigarette and he
threw out the cloth. He put it out in the
sand that he took off, and he took that baby
Yoda with him. That was Luke's, you know, pet, and
so now Luke went off after him in the galaxy
like that was how it ended last year. I forget
(18:50):
did which episode was it that had the giant family
tree scribbled down the wall like they did in Harry Potter.
Oh well that's oh that's when they that. I remember
that when they went to twelve Grimmall Place and the
one place you need to stay, like the you saw
the the building open and make a completely new building
and they went inside there and that's what they've been
(19:10):
staying for a while. Okay, good, Yeah, as long as
we know they're hiding out and they're safe. I know.
There was a big premiere in Hollywood to Night. Yeah,
just because so much swirling. Let me tell you about
Regulus Black as we sit here as a hologram. Look,
this is very important about the Black family tree, not
just r Ab but where else it can be from
(19:32):
a certain point of view, do not be seduced and
murdered by the dark side of the well. It's very
similar to Star Wars. A matter of fact, you have
the dark side of Harry Potter. But maybe maybe we
can sue JK. Rolling and make a lot of money
this because this was a very very similar to that
in most respects. I don't know. They sold a billion
dollars worth of video games in like three days, so
(19:56):
the money keeps pouring in off the franchise. That's for
dang sure. As you see, there are a lot of
similarities between Fold and Laws and duth Vader. One of
them has a lightsaber. One of them has a very
tiny lightsaber that light comes out of that. His colors
like blue and red and green, the same color as
our lightsabers. Maybe there is more of a lawsuit here
than I anticipated all these years later, but I'm still
(20:20):
start writing that book. There's your next novel. It's your
lawyer here. Yeah, he's the hologram. Yes, I'm here, I'm
a hologram. I've I've I died shortly after the Clone Wars.
What are you talking about? It doesn't matter, makes no
Look at the size of the wand here the size
of the lightsaber. You tell me your honor. I've watched
a lot of episodes of La Law. I know how
to win a case. This is where the lawyer from
(20:43):
Montgomery Birds lawyer walks in it. It's quarely infringement on
oh Man, good times. Yeah, just a crazy day. I
wanted to punctuate that Lakers game though. Okay, six turnovers lay,
that's a lot of turnovers. Yes, he was seduced to
murdered by the other team stepping in the lane of
your passes. Yeah, and they ain't shooting thirty eight percent
(21:06):
from the three, so you know, just just to put
the other side on it. But it is interesting because well,
I mean that means they'll be really chirpy, which gets
people mad, which is good for business. Now we're gonna
do something very difficult. Right now, I don't know if
we can actually do it, but let's see how long
we can pull it off for because there is big
(21:27):
quarterback news today out of Green Bay with the Packers,
and the conversation doesn't involve Aaron Rodgers because we can
we can now have the Jordan Love conversation because GM
Brian goodacoun said today he's not ready to say who
the quarterback is going to be. They're kind of in
(21:47):
a waiting time right now with what Aaron Rodgers is
not saying anything. He's been quiet since he came out
of his eight hour darkness retreat, however long he stayed.
And now it's okay. They're not ready to see like
they like Jordan, and now they're waiting so we can
actually have a conversation about this without saying his name.
I mean, I don't know we can go the whole
way with it, but we might be able to go
(22:09):
without saying his name for a long period of time.
I see, you think we took the discussion we just had.
You mentioned a name that wasn't supposed to be named.
I really thought you were talking about McAfee confirming that
he'd gotten served by Brett farr olbi wan, I've not
heard that name in such a long time. Oh, Jordan Love,
I've not heard that name since they moved up to
draft him in a very ill advised draft move back
(22:32):
three years ago, maybe Obi wan Kenobi would have been
a pretty good NFL draft analyst. Am I still the
only aut it defends that draft might be. But let well,
let's see if we can ever and from now on,
let's see how long we can go without mentioning Aaron
Rodgers name and have this conversation, right because with that
(22:52):
news today, it's now up in the air. We don't
know who the quarterback is going to be. So now
if you take who the quarterback is last year out
of it, and it's a quarterback who was really good
for a long time coming off a very mediocre year,
and you have to wonder, like any quarterback when you
get to thirty eight, thirty nine years old and you
(23:13):
have a bad season, is that it? Have you fallen
off the cliff? Is this it for you? And father
time has caught you and you're no longer that player? Right?
That's who you would say that for anybody. So if
that's the case, now you look at Jordan Love situation
in Green Bay. You take to take out who it
is out of it. Here's a situation where the Packers
had a quarterback who's thirty nine years old coming off
(23:35):
a very iffy year. Jordan Love was a guy they
moved up in the first round to get three years ago.
He hasn't played in three years. He has set The
Packers have done this before. They have sat both of
their previous quarterbacks for a while and then they've learned
and they've come in and they've been terrific. Right so
now three years it's time for him to play. Just
(23:57):
like the forty nine ers with Trey Lance. The desire
to see him on the field to make a decision
is something they need to have and they're gonna They're
gonna get it over the course of the summer in
the early fall because of Brock Purdy's injury. But whenever
you draft a quarterback, he's got to see the field
at some point, he's got to see the field unless
you have a guy ahead of him who suddenly becomes
(24:17):
a bigger superstar and keeps him on the bench. And
that happened for two of the last three years, but
not this past year. So now that the door is open,
Jordan Loves sort of has to play. So you understand
where the Packers are coming from. With Hey, maybe now
is the time. Maybe this is this is what it
should be, and we don't know, maybe you've heard. Maybe
the Packers are ready to move on and and and
(24:39):
I almost said his name. I almost did it. Uh
and and but and this, but this is the time
you need to see him on the field. When you
think about it that way, it sounds easy. Well, of
course the Packers will go with Jordan Love because he's
gonna get to a point where, listen, you have to
exercise the twenty million dollars on his contract this year. Anyway,
you're not gonna trade him. He hasn't got no value.
You think he's ready to come in. You have put
(25:00):
this team together for him, not for Aaron Rodgers. And
that's what people forget. Jordan Love comes in as a
dual threat quarterback, right, that's what he does. What have
the Packers been doing the last couple of years. They've
not been emphasizing wide receivers. They've been emphasizing offensive line
and depth at running back right, and building the defense
so it can win a lot of games. That's how
(25:22):
they've been building this team for a dual threat quarterback
like Jordan Love, who is very mobile, makes plays with
his legs, gets out of the pocket and can throw.
This is what they've been doing. They've been building the
team for that. Not a downfield aerial passing attack where
we're gonna throw for four hundred yards a week. They've
been building a team where if the quarterback throws for
two to two twenty five and he runs for seventy
seventy five and we get three or four touchdowns a week. Yeah,
(25:45):
that's kind of what we're building towards now. That's what
we want to do. That's what the Packers have been doing.
So when you look at it from that angle, yeah,
it makes all the sense in the world. And it
seems like it's just a fad at complete that Jordan
Love is going to start. And the more time that
goes on with with them trying to figure out I
almost set his name again. I almost did it, Mike,
they try to figure it out, the more it looks
(26:06):
like they are ready to turn this over to Jordan
Love and he's going to be the quarterback this fall
no matter what. I could even see a situation where
where I almost said his name again. He wants to return,
and they say, yeah, we think we're moving on. So
we're gonna we're gonna trade you and where you find
the best deal, and that's what we're gonna send you,
and we're gonna get what we can get from you
and figure out the money. That's how much they may
(26:26):
desire to see that because you really have to see
him on the field right now. Yeah, the acrimony over
dollars is the big thing with Jordan Love. It's the
consideration of, well, what are the next dollars right as
the first round pick a guy that you you're gonna
have to make a decision on in San Francisco, while
you're desirous to see Trey Lance and all that he's
(26:47):
gotten and pretty getting hurt certainly opens the door. And
as we've talked about the last week or so, yeah,
there'll be another guy in camp. Why because you can't
trust that the rest of these guys are making it
through and that Lance will be available to you. But
you're looking at a different situation because he's You're not
on the hook for for a cash consideration with him
(27:08):
just yet. But with with Jordan Love, you already had
Aaron Jones restructures deal, baktri returning restructure deal, number of
other guys and just line items. Over the last couple
of days, they've freed up a lot of cap space
now in building this squad these last couple of years.
(27:28):
As valdemort Um say, I name the other guy playing
out his last couple of years here. The defense last
year stunk for a good chunk of the season, right
from a fantasy perspective, and in reality you thought they
had built a unit that was going to be able
to carry them as the offense got together after the summer.
(27:52):
Sojourn and Jordan Love getting all the reps in the offseason,
which is a nice benefit. As you have seen some
live action, even it wasn't in game action. You did
see how he operated when he was the head of
the proverbial snake. See what I did there too. But
you got Dobs, you got Christian Watson who came on
(28:13):
like Gangbusters late. You have to round out that receiving corps.
Maybe get rid of some of the once were kind
of great or at least serviceable players, move on. Maybe
Cook comes back for his thirty eighth year in the
National Football League. I'm sorry, Mercedes Lewis, sorry Jared Cook's
(28:34):
still out there as well. But Marcedes Lewis. Can he
come back one more time as a as a blocker
and occasional red zone target. I don't see why not.
He's still graded out really well as a blocker, and
I'm sure he's not looking to break the bank. So
you bring him back and yeah, you've got your your
run running attack. Now the defense just needs to be better,
(28:55):
and you've got a formula whereby you can still be
running a top the north if love is up to
the task. The only other consideration is all the acrimony
that comes out of the dollars owed to that other gay.
Now an agreement, there is gonna be the sixty million
(29:16):
dollars question. But you you put all that stuff back
into the equation now of who it is and the
money that's owed and the and the career he's had,
and things get a little more difficult. This is how
things get muddy, because how do you how do you
not say, well, we're gonna keep going forward with I
almost sent his name now to see now you got
to go Nino Brown. But when you all business never personal.
(29:37):
But when you strip it away, it's you have a
first round pick. You moved up to get him. He
hasn't seen the field yet. He sat for three years.
Do you think he's probably ready? Um, he needs to play, right,
especially if you can't trade him because he hasn't seen
the field yet. Teams teams might want Jordan Love if
he played and showed that he was actually good. Hey,
if he had some extended time at some point because
the other guy got injured. I almost said his name again,
(29:59):
and it would you, But you don't have that. So
it's almost like this has to be the solution of
we have to give it to Jordan Love just and
mainly because again, they build they're building that kind of team.
They're building that forty nine ers type team where it's
we have sledgehammers at running back and we have a
really you know, we're gonna have a really good tight end.
We're gonna have some some good weapons. We're a really
(30:20):
good offensive line, and we're gonna take a little bit
of the pressure off the quarterback. We have been quarterback
driven for a long time now. We kind of want
to be quarterback led by leading the lead of the
ensemble cast as kind of how we're looking at it
instead of being the Hey, this is a one man show,
like a Tom Cruise movie. This is Hey, here's an
ensemble cast and Daniel Craig leads a very group of
(30:42):
talented actors in the Glass Onion. That's kind of what
the Packers are looking for and that's how they're building
the team to go forward that way. Yeah. See, here's
here's where we get into the sentimentality, we get into
the history. All of that is the old guy now
just old because that's the other part of the equation.
You have to look at stats and everything from twenty
(31:04):
twenty two are what they are because we've got Jason
lockinfora yesterday more or less just said he's done? Is
he done? Did he have a bad year? Is he
falling off the cliff? You know, it's it's the same
question we ask with Russell Wilson a couple of years
as junior. Are they done? Can they be resurrected? Can
(31:26):
they be resurrected? Where they are now? Right? John Payton
comes into Denver? So fine, But can the other guy?
We are the other guys? Can you find the fountain
of youth? Because if you think that there's still some
good football to be played now, it starts screwing with you.
Now now That's where it's the hardest of the decisions. Right,
(31:47):
he may be a pain in the ass, he may
be expensive, but if you think he can still sling
the football and win, it's an awful much. It's a
much more difficult proposition to just say, all right, we
gotta go see behind what's door and what's behind door
number two? Just because he's been here and he's been
a good guy for three years. Twitter, and how about

And I gotta tell you, Mike, tonight, you know that
we've had a lot of sea change nights the last
few nights in sports. Lebron James's injury tells you, Hey,
(35:02):
this is the beginning of the end for him, the
beginning of the end of his career. He can't stay
healthy these next twenty games? Is it for Anthony Davis?
A lot of big things are happening, and another big
one's gonna happen tonight after tonight. Syracuse lost tonight to
Georgia Tech at home by twenty points. It's the four
straight game they've gotten blown out by at least seventeen points. Right,
(35:24):
It's gonna be another year of Syracuse not making the
tournament and another year of what's going on the direction
of the team. Right, you know, me being a Syracuse
guy in my whole life, Jim bay had two things
are gonna happen. I'll tell you this much right now,
because all it is Beaheim's gotta go, BAM's gotta go,
Bayhem's gotta go. What's gonna happen is this, and it's
and it sucks because you know, this is something that's
(35:45):
gonna make me feel old. Bahem's been the coach my
entire life. He's Syracuse coach the entire life, literally my
entire life, he's been the coach at Syracuse. And he's
not going to get out of this season without having
to announce when he is retiring. And it's not gonna
be something that in four years ran like when when
I turned eighty. What. No, it's it's gonna be one
(36:06):
more year and one more It's either going to be
one more year or one more year after the next one.
But it's gonna be He's not gonna get out because
this is just Look, it's inexcusable. Right to not win
the ACC is one thing, but hey man, you know
syracuses basketball royalty for a long time, and now you
have one of the biggest rock star head coaches in
all of college basketball. I'd argue right now there's not
(36:27):
a bigger rock star head coach than Beheim because coach
k is retired and you know, Tom Iszo doesn't go
to tournaments. He had, you know, issues that he's had
to deal with with it with the team. So Beheim
is kind of like the the Dean of college basketball.
You know, Calipari makes headlines once in a while, but
Kentucky hasn't been great either, So you're talking about the
the biggest star in college basketball is going to have
(36:48):
to say in a couple of weeks, yeah, one more
year or one more year after this, and that's gonna
be it, and I'm going to retire because something has
to happen. This has been too difficult of two seasons
in a row where they haven't been able to do
anything and they're not gonna they make the postseason again,
they're not gonna make the n I and it's gonna
be awful, and so it's gonna, wow, look at this,
(37:10):
look at this. So that's the first thing that's gonna happen,
and it's gonna be tough because, like I said, he's
been there my whole life, and some people don't like him,
but I don't care. He's my guy that people don't like, right.
You know, Hey, I watched Sons of Anarchy. A lot
of those guys aren't good guys. I don't care. They're
my monsters. I like those guys. Man, go get him.
Jack's go get him Jibs. Yeah, you go. But that's
kind of how I feel it. It's gonna be very
(37:30):
difficult because I'm gonna say, Okay, there's gonna be a
time in the next eighteen months where Jim Beheim's not
gonna be the coach of Syracuse basketball anymore. Yeah, it
must be exhausting, always rooting for the anti hero. Taylor
Swift wrapped it up beautifully hand a single off for
the latest album. But when we look at Beeheim and
that's a role he has played, and we've seen the
(37:52):
comments by coach k As, you know, whatever side of
the fencher Oni. You know, as a coach, you have
to respect what he did, but you also recognize that he,
among a number of others, as soon as the rules
started to change, they got a bit whiny about it,
and then they dipped at the next next turn. Now,
(38:12):
none of these guys are springing chickens, to use a
term that would be well as old as they are.
Beheim was hired in nineteen seventy six, you would have
been a couple of years old. But he's all you
would remember in college basketball at at your beloved Syracuse,
and he's a grizzly veteran. He's salty. He gets after
(38:32):
the student organization, right, the writers and the radio guys there.
And that's fun to a point, right, because now you've
got to win in this new age. And clearly there's
a problem. I mean he was supposed to retire what
in twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen? Yeah, and then I mean,
does he have any more kids that are coming through?
I want, buddy, grandkids that are creeping up? Does he
(38:55):
does he have any more eligibility left? You know? But
you bring up the best point is that all this
this has been a big conversation the last couple of
weeks because Syracuse is getting killed like this and they're
on TV all the time and it's very very hard
for me to watch. But you can say a lot
about oh, maybe you know, Beheim needs to go. Hey,
the two three zone, They play has seen its day,
(39:16):
and likely it has because more teams make threes now
than they ever have before, Like threes are part of
everybody's arsenal. It used to be, well, you gotta make
threes to beat that zone, and not everybody could do it,
so they had a big advantage. But now everybody hits
their threes. So if you hit, yeah, you know, yeah,
being able to recruit the guys with the long armspan
(39:37):
and everything else. So you hear about the zone all
the time that hey, they need to be doing that.
But yeah, and that's a great point. And that's a
great point that maybe the zone isn't the defense it
was because teams hit their threes. They just do. But
the biggest thing is this, and I've told you this.
I you know, there's ten years of data. Now the
ACC is just too tough. It's too tough for Syracuse,
it's too tough for a lot of schools, which tells you, hey,
(39:58):
maybe the Big East wasn't that great when it had
its heyday because it was so popular in the physical
play and Ewing and Syracuse and Saint John's and Yukon
and Villanova. But ten years now and Syracuse got to
the ACC ten years ago, and the first year and
a half they had great success, right, they had good teams.
They had one team that was undefeated for for a
long time. But since then this is kind of who
(40:20):
they are. And you can cut a lot of things
into different ways, but the ACC is just too difficult.
It's too difficult a conference for Syracuse to navigate. So, yeah,
you can blame the coaches and the defense all you want,
but after ten years, I mean, you've had good recruits
come in, you've had you had really good teams, You've
had not great teams, you had really good guys come in,
you know, but it's always been the same. You're a
(40:42):
periphery tournament team, making the tournament, not making the tournament.
Maybe you make a run, maybe you don't make a run.
This for a team that would go and have big
runs all the time, it's just not the case anymore.
And in the ACC is just too tough. Well, part
of it is is adapting and that's not gonna happen
with the level of success he's had. Yes, I know,
folks will say he only got his one title. It's
(41:04):
it's hard to win titles, man, Yeah, not everybody gets it.
In every sport, like we do this all the time.
He only got one. That's Ron Parker. Anybody could get one,
Chase Bage, but no, anybody can't just get one. Anybody can.
Like you just show up. I got a ticket. Oh,
here's your championship. Hey, thanks a lot, appreciate it. Thank
you've been around twenty five years. Here's your ticket for
(41:26):
a title. Twitter and out about a Fresca, Mike as swollen, dumb,
It's gonna be something. I'm not gonna deal with it. Well,
but it's gonna go. It'll be okay. But coming up next,
we have a brand new NFL story
