inspired by the night of buzzer beaters. An incredible play
we saw a Day two of the n State Tournament,
an absolute gut punch of a loss for the Lakers,
who were six gets away of moving into the eighth
spot in the Western Conference. They were up one ten,
one o eight over the Mavericks. Anthony Davis missed one

of two free throws, so it's a two instead of
a three point lead. So the Mavericks have the ball
with about six seconds left, they double Kyrie Irving, who
can get nowhere? Kyrie's got nothing going on. He dribbles
to the right side, picks up his dribble, holds it,
sees Maxie Cleiber across the court, gets the ball to him.

Anthony Davis closes just a little bit too late, and
Cleber drains of three at the buzzer. Lucky shot. May
Cleiber not to be confused with Maxie Priest. Uh, just
want to get close to you, I Maxie Priest. Yeah,
that is a gut punch of a loss for the Lakers.

Rights like, I'm gonna hit you in the stomach as
many times as I can, and you're gonna get up
like and Oceans eleven when at the end, like Andy
Garcia keeps thinking these been getting in the stomach all
night long. That's kind of what it was like for
Laker fans and wo to the ribs and gut. Remember
the end of Rocky four where he was getting drago

in the ribs and the and there like deliver oh
rabbits in the liver. Uh. That was really a shocker
for the light I mean they were they were set
to move up into they would have been in a
tie for seventh. If they had won this game, they'd
have been a three way tie for seventh, and they
would have been a game and a half out of sixth.

That's that's what this win would have been. That this
is such a gut punch of a loss. I mean that,
really there's been bad losses for the Lakers this year,
but what's at stake when you're playing a team that's
right in front of you when the standings win, every
win counts because now you're you're getting into the last
ten games of the season. This is an absolute gut

that was the story of the last play. But when look,
when you double team somebody, somebody's gonna be open. You know,

I mean you double Kyrie because that's the right move,
that's the right move to double Kyrie. But you know
somebody's going to be open. At the end when that athlete,
Max Leeler was wide open. Man watching it again, ad
gets there just a split second too late, and it's
a clean look at the three for him. That's unbelievable.
It is. I mean, it's the worst, even though we're best.

But that hurts man. Well, but you had opportunities against
bottom feeders, right, You had Oklahoma City and you had Houston,
and you lose those two games, right, Dallas, is it's
at least a game where you're saying, all right, fifty
fifty Oklahoma City was no guiltist, Alexander, lose that one,
and then you have this this sequence where you lose
to the Rocket. Dude, like this one didn't hurt enough.

You gotta keep bringing up the Rocket game. No, no,
but this is one that like it takes on that
just magnitude of a whole other level because you didn't
take your business against the crap teams. Right, this is
one that you're right, You're right, no, that too. But
say a week ago you were going down and saying, right,
which games and how what's a reasonable record going forward?

You would have circled those two games, said well those
are wins. This bone becomes a fifty fifty, and then
you hear Luca's not playing and Kyrie was still a
little bit up in the air. Heading towards game time.
He goes off for his thirty eight points. But this
is one that you thought, all right, well we've got
a puncher's chance, but we would have taken care of those. Well,

but a loss is a lost man, take care of business.
Davis got to hit a free throw. Yeah, look, that
was about as bad a last six seconds of a
game that Anthony Davis could have. Right, you go to
the free throw line up one, you hit him both,
and and you the worst you're doing is looking at overtime, right,
and you're guarding the perimeter right, because they're not taking

another shot that's not from behind the ark, right, it's
so much easier play to guard, and he misses the
free throw, and then it's a late close out on
cleber Uh that winds up giving them the hoop. And
the thing is, it's it's you know to say, okay,
it's it's AD's fault. A D is in a spot
on the floor where he's not really guarding anybody. He's
not guarding anyone, and that's why this is such a

bad play. It's not like he's down low because the
Lakers had to help defense down at the down under
the basket. So a D is not guarding anybody. He's
just standing in space and in the in the at
the top of the key, not at the top of
the key at the free throw line. He's just standing
in space. And I don't know what he expects to do.
I'm gonna jump again, close out on the guy. You know,

where's he gonna throw the ball. It's like he was
running like I don't know what aid he thought he
was gonna do. Like I would think that maybe Anthony
Davis thought Kyrie was going to find a way to
get free and take some kind of crazy shot. But
he was just standing there. He's standing at the free
throw line that allowed the past to goa and the
defense was perfect until Kyrie passed the ball. Yeah, no,

it was perfect right until the shot went in. Well,
you got fifty points off the bench. Reeves and Shrewder
combined for thirty one. Good old Ruey Hatchamora with ten.
Uh and it's it's all for how many lebron have Again,
he looked well dressed. That's about sums it up. How

about you come back and play some ball. Well, but
he really pushed hard to make sure that he got
that record as fast as he could. That really that
really worked out for the squad. This is a loss
that they might not recover from. I hate to say it,

seed Fairly Dickinson beats per Due sixty three fifty eight,
just the second sixteen seed to upset of one. It
was absolutely lee insane. We saw the celebration, We've been
covering it throughout the night, and here's the thing. We

decided to do something. We try to do it, and

who's the owner of the Bears and GM and the Jets.

of soundtrack to things. It was beautiful. Setesha is a
real one. Man was great and I'm serious he and I.
I didn't know this until we had him on. We
went to rival high schools. I mean these were Curtis
and McKee where I grew up in Staten Island. They
were separated by about, I don't know, three four hundred yards.
It just so wow. We had two high schools in

that area that where you would leave Curtis's campus and
you'd have to walk by McKee to go to the
bus stop and go home. And we had a huge
rivalry in sports at Curtis McKee was like it was
it like in basketball and football everything else, And I
wasn't lying. We beat McKey and everything except JV football, right,
and Keet Davidson the quarterback there. Oh no, no, no, no,

here's why, here's why they would win. When I was
a freshman. I was a sophomore, we beat McKey. When
I was a friend. I'm actually made a big game
saving tackle on a kickoff return, but that's a story
for another day. So freshman year, we're playing McKee, right,
and McKee is winning every game. It's like, you know,
because this is in the mid eighties, and we're like,
you see the final scores and go god, McKey won

this game forty five to eight, fifty two to ten.
How are they winning these games? They ran the single
wing offense, which means they didn't throw the football. They
had three running backs and everybody else on the line
of scrimmage, and they would come out of their huddle
and a snake And so they would come out of
their huddle and a snake and line up and snap
the ball really fast. And they would do all this misdirection.
You didn't know who had the ball all the time.

(14:13):
A lot of us were playing football for the first time,
so it's like, I don't know what's going on. And
they were beating us forty to nothing. At halftime it
was forty to nothing. We just couldn't stop him. Every
play was big chunk yardage. We were chasing them to
try to tackle him. And I'm going, oh my god,
this is really embarrassing. I've never been I've never played
a game like this. I'm like, this is We're just
getting absolutely destroyed. And I think we lost a game

(14:35):
like fifty eight to six or something like that. We
were Oh my god, it was terrible. And so sophomore year,
our coach was like, we got to get these guys back,
except he didn't say these guys. He would just he
was cursing, a cursing, a curse that we had to play.
And we played him at their field and we were
winning fourteen eight late in the second half and we

(14:56):
had scored a touchdown to go up fourteen eight. And
you know, I'm on every kickoff I'm on every special team.
So I'm on the hawk on the kickoff return, except
the coach tells me right before the team goes, Jason,
don't be the hawk lay back, and I said, why
lay back, lay back, because this kid run running it
back is really good. Lay back and try to make
the tackle if they break through. And I'm like, okay, fine.

(15:18):
So it's fourteen to eight. There's like, I don't know,
three minutes left in the fourth quarter or something like that,
and kickoff comes and sure enough, this guy breaks out
and I'm like, there's three guys. And I didn't know
this till after it till after the game was over.
I'm just seeing the guy and I know I gotta
tackle him, and he's coming at me and he's got
a blocker on either side, and I'm going I'm just

(15:38):
gonna get steamrolled. I'm just gonna because this is a
tall dude. He's probably like, you know, like like six
foot and I'm like, you know, four to eleven my
freshman year, and these other two guys are really big
on either side of him. And I think this is
where I had that going in my favor because the
two guys, I think decided they didn't need to block me,
and they wanted to kind of escort him down or
look for somebody else to block, because they would have

(16:00):
just obliterated me because it was it was him. It
was the guy running and two guys on either side,
and it's me at the fifty yard line and that's it.
And I'm going, oh my god. And so I just
kind of get in and I get really low and
I stick him as hard as I can and I
hold on and I just hold on as he falls
and I tackle him and I'm like, oh, I just
made that tackle. It's just like you on the ankles

(16:22):
of a coach on the sideline when the fight starting up.
Or I get up and I and I go walking
off the field and our coach is there with his
hands on his knees. He's looking at me and he says,
I need to talk to you after the game. And
I'm like okay. And I'm like, I don't know. People
were saying, hey, good tackle, good tackle, good tackle. And
I was like, okay, what did I do wrong? I did?

(16:42):
I'm like, did I not do? You told me to
stay back? I'm like, oh, he's gonna get mad at me.
And in the post game when we won because we
held on, we beat them fourteen eight, he said, and
I want to talk about a play that we would
not have won without. And I don't know how you
did it. I just saw a lot of dust and
I thought you were going to be in the dirt chase,
and I don't know how you made that tackle. And
he gave me a big sticker for my helmet right

(17:03):
there in the post game, and I was like, oh man,
it was the greatest football. It was a skull. You
had skulls. You had skulls on defense for the big tackles.
I was like, oh, I got a skull and I
put it right on my helmet. I'm like, I'm gonna
wear my helmet around the house the rest of the
rest of the week and like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh man, So that's where so much fully your grandpa

then and nout him with your helmet on, just like
I made that tackle. Watch this No he saw me
making He was proud of that. That was what I do.
And that was Setesha's school that we wound up eating.
