This is the best of the Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmen on Fox Sports Radio. Oh that is us.
Good evening, everybody eron Torres Arnie Spaniards. We're broadcasting live
from the tireract dot Com studios tirect dot com. We'll

(00:40):
help you get there unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free
road hazard protection and over ten thousand recommended installers tirerac
dot com the way tire buying should be. How you
doing tonight, Torres Arnie. I'm doing well. It's been owassit.
You and I worked together. Now you filled in for

(01:01):
me a few saturdays ago when I was watching my
team win a national championship. She's done. They were not
involved in the final four that I was at, but
great to be with you. How you beatman? What's new if.
If we're gonna be honest right off the bat, I
want you to know I was rooting against you con
like it was no one like I had a million

(01:23):
or Miami Hurricanes. I wanted you to lose against Iona.
I wanted you to lose. I wanted you to lose
from from day one. Was unlike other against you, unlike
other formerly great programs. We don't lose in round one
too poorly seated teams. That'd be the Arizona Wildcats Alex

(01:45):
ty shirt. I know you were right on top of
that ty shirt, you know, mister mister college hoops sports
and Jed. Let me tell you that that hurts. That
that's gonna bother me because I I was telling this
story when it happened. Princeton was my safety school in
case I didn't want to go to Arizona and I
didn't get into Arizona, I was probably gonna go to
Princeton Princeton Tech in uh in Mesa. Arizona is not

(02:06):
the school that Arizona played in the tournament. That loss
is going to bother me until we win a national championship.
I want you to know that, really, Oh yeah, why
isn't that much more bothersome than all the other early
losses that are You're just gonna see us every every
year at the start of the tournament, We'll say, and
there's upsets, and then you'll see the Princeton guys reading
a book on the sideline and making buckets against us

(02:28):
and stuff like that. Did you know what that loss?
It was the first time ever that any school had
lost twice as a two seed to a fifteen seed.
I don't know if you heard that stat when that happened.
So that's pretty cool. No, that's not true at all.
It is what thatt a two lost to a fifteen
or twice? Yeah? The other one was what Miami of Ohio? Right?
Is that the one we lost to or now you
lost to Santa Clara was Santa Claro, Miami of Ohio.

(02:51):
We must have been like a fourteen against a three
seeds or something like that too. That one, that one
crushed me. Also, yeah, sorry about that. Oh you okay, gosh, okay.
We got your Lakers tonight, so that's good. Oh, I'm
feeling good in my Lakers tonight. I got them going
at least I got them to go ahead and pull
me through. Uh. I guess. I don't know. I mean,
we'll see. I'll say this, Arntie, I'll say, this is

(03:12):
as obviously the play in tournament. I don't think it
we can consider it the playoffs even though it's the playoffs. Oh,
I do stop. I'm just saying, listen, mister Princeton, this
is I'm just saying what all the experts and the
smart people say. I'll say, at least in the West,
this feels about as wide open as I can ever
remember it, like it's you know, and like you know,

(03:34):
I've I've heard people make the argument for the Lakers,
and I don't know if it's who I like necessarily,
but I can see the argument. I could see the
argument for Phoenix, I could see I don't know if
I can see the argument for the Clippers. But there's
three or four teams in this in this Western Conference
playoffs that I could legitimately see making a run here. No,
I'm absolutely looking forward to it. We do have a
lot to get to, of course, win for the guys.

(03:55):
Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Carmon will keep
you updated on what's going went on with the Laker game.
I'm looking forward to this I mean, you're going to
sit here and told me it's not really a playoff game,
it's a playing game, and I'm feeling like it's Game
seven and the winner gets to go to the NBA
Championship because it's the first big game the Lakers have
played in forever. You know, I saw this, Sta, I
completely cut you off. I'm so okay, go go. This

(04:17):
is the first home playoff game with fans in the
stands for the Lakers in a decade, Arnie Spanier, because yeah,
that was the only other time they made the playoffs. Wow,
a rash Markazi, that's via a Rosch Markaz ten you
in a decade. I mean, I'll just read you a
roschmar Kazi is mister La, So I'll just read you

(04:39):
what he tweeted. Here is what he said. Uh, mister La. Yeah,
but that that seems like he said, the cheapest ticket
to the Lakers first postseason game in front of fans
in Los Angeles in ten years. Wow, it's one hundred
fifty dollars. Never would First of all, one hundred and
fifty doesn't sound that bad at all. That seems like
a bargain too. I never would again. If you if

(05:01):
you just said, guess how many years, I think ten
would have been like my fifth or six guests or
something like that. Never never would have thought it. It's
been that long of a sub for the Lakers. I
wouldn't have either. And I know they had a few
down years kind of in the transition out of Kobe,
and then they had the rebuilding years where they drafted
Lonzo Ball and Julius Randall, and then of course they
got Lebron. But now I'm with you, is is that

(05:23):
championship for the you know, the bubble? Yeah, so no,
I just that was not something that I was expecting
to see either. Just never really registered. And like I said,
I know, obviously they missed the playoffs last year, and uh,
you know Lebron's first year before they got ad they
missed the playoffs, and then I guess, so I guess
coming out of the bubble, they made the playoffs that year,
but they lost to Phoenix and there were no fans

(05:44):
in the stands. So you know, it's a little it's
a little bit of a convoluted stat but it is
still pretty incredible. It's been ten years since they played
in front of fans in the playoffs. And by the way,
if you want to go ahead and twitter, the best
way to get a hold of us are real simple.
At Aaron Underscore Tours, I'm in stinking genius one. What
do you acting from the way, because are you are
you thinking, okay, they're you know, a Western Finals team.

(06:04):
You think they can make a run. Thank you? What
the best record in the Western Conference in the Yeah,
seventeen and seven or something like eighteen and seven or
something to that matter. I never would have guessed it,
especially especially with Lebron I'm going down with his injury.
But Anthony Davis really stepped it up. And by the way,
they we ask you a question. Everybody's like looking at
Anthony Davis, he gonna have been doing this all year.

(06:26):
Is Anthony Davis playing like this because he's healthy? Or
is Anthony Davis playing like this because he only played
in like fifty five or fifty six games and because
it was load management. You told me what it is?
You know, well, I think that's what's going to be
interesting about this playoffs is that I get that in general,
you know, you're not playing back to backs, you're not
playing three games in five nights in a playoff setting.

(06:48):
But you know this is go time, right, and you
know you we I think too easily, and I think
we're finally getting pushed back on the load management stuff.
But we have just accepted load management with the understanding
that it's all about championships, and it's all about what
you do in April, May and June. Well it's April,
and Lakers fans, you know, I don't know what's realistic

(07:10):
and what isn't, but you know they want to compete
for championships. And so the only point I'm trying to
make is I know that there's a lot of pressure
on a lot of different people. NICOLEA. Yokich obviously trying
to justify the previous two, you know, MVPs, maybe a
third one coming, although not likely. A lot of pressure
on Kevin durant On and on. I would argue there's
as much pressure on Anthony Davis as anybody because everybody's

(07:31):
playing well. The pieces fit, the pieces compliment each other,
the team is playing well. But can he stay healthy
for three months? It obviously starts tonight. I think that's
one of the biggest questions of this playoffs. Boy, did
that experiment go all wrong? When Westbrook did it not
or one? I mean, I mean I remember I remember
being on air the day after the trade and you saying,
it's let's call Bernie Fretto. I'm I'm putting my whole

(07:52):
house on the Lakers winning the champion champion. I was like,
you know, there's only one ball, right, and you know
Westbrook can't really play off the ball and Lebron can't
really play off the ball. So you were the one
you were buying. You were already printing up into your
garage in Vermont the Lakers twenty twenty two championship t shirts.
So wait, wait a minute, I will ask you what
I said an our number one later on in this show.

(08:14):
You won't remember, but you'd never let me forget that
one yea three years ago I made one because it
was such an egregious take. How could I forget it?
And it just stuck into your mind like you won't remember. Wait, wait,
you had for lunch today? But Joe, remember I said
that three years ago? Walter? You know what I had
for lunch day. You'll appreciate this. I had a little
mats of ball soup, So good for you. It's you know,

(08:36):
it's passover. And how about this, My wife's aunt takes
you know, she she's a nurse or whatever for you know,
an older nurse or whatever. I mean, I don't know
what the term is, but for an older Jewish lady.
And so she made her mats of ball soup. I
don't know if you know it's about me, but I'm
half Jewish, so I grew up on a little mats
of ball sup myself. And that's what I had for lunch.
It was delicious, So thank you for asking I got.

(08:58):
I also remember my vours to get that, to give
monster ball soup. But you're not making your wife's slave away.
I mean, she's too busy shoveling and ironing and whatever
you didn't make. You don't make her make dinner too.
Oh her monster ball soup is is like cardballs in Colorado.
They just fly out of the stadium. Okay, so yes,
But I do remember the Egregious west because it was

(09:19):
so bad, because because it was one of those everyone
had the same opinion on the Westbrook stuff. It was like,
I don't know if it's gonna work with Lebron And
then out of left field there's Arnie span here. Oh,
my god, championships line up the parade, don't even play
the season. But wait a minute before you start patting
yourself on the back along with everybody else, had said
it was going to be a bad fit. Why wasn't

(09:41):
that the same thing when he went over to the Clippers?
Did you? Did you just say, well, now he's gonna
bring down the Clippers because they've played pretty well and
he's helped them, you know, towards the end of the season.
I don't hear anybody's saying that when he went to
the Clippers, though, Why I didn't hear anybody say they're
the definitive favorites now with West. No, no, but but
that's what you said, though, No, no, no, But they're
not saying, well, you know, forget about the Clippers now

(10:01):
they're losing the first round or something. They're gonna be
as miserable as the Lakers were, or or something to
that effect. You know, I would think, you know, you
being a mediocre pickup basketball player, you don't understand how
basketball works. There are certain players that are best with
the ball in their hands, and there are certain players
that are best off the ball. Lebron is somebody that
is maybe the best player to ever play, but he

(10:22):
needs the ball in his hands to be most effective
Westbrook when he's playing like an MVP, and he obviously
doesn't play like that at this point in his career,
but has the ball in his hands, Kauai can play
off the ball. Paul George, who I know is hurt
right now, can play off the ball. So there isn't
as much of a log jam in the actual, you know,
having the ball in your hands situation. So that was

(10:43):
why I thought it would make more sense with the Clippers.
But I'll also say this, I think Clippers got a
pretty bad matchup with Phoenix in round one. Well yeah,
let me tell you something. I can't wait to see
how that series plays out. I want to see. I mean,
all you hear is how they're undefeated, and I'm talking
about Phoenix when Kevin Urrand's played is not certainly not
going to be the case as we go through the playoffs.

(11:04):
Eventually they're gonna go ahead and lose somewhere along in
the line. We'll see how they bounce back and they
overcome adversity. I'm so you know you're talking about having pressure.
I think there's a lot of pressure on Kevin Durant
go ahead and lead Phoenix to an NBA championship, not
just the finals, with an NBA championship. Aaron Interesting, Um,
I don't know. I don't know, Like like I kind

(11:27):
of feel like, I don't know, I don't know how
I feel about Kevin Durant. I feel like everyone's just
kind of given up on the Like there was so
much pressure to win in Golden State. Then he tried
to do his own thing in Brooklyn that didn't work,
and now he's just in Phoenix. But I'm not sold
on Phoenix. And I know we have four hours to
get into this, really eight hours including tomorrow. But you know,
I understand that they're undefeated since since you know, he's

(11:49):
come over in games that he's played, but they also,
what was the argument the day that they traded for him.
They don't have a bench now giving up Cam Johnson
and Michal Bridges and all the guys that they gave up.
So there's a lot of pressure on him. And look,
the one thing I'll say, you know who it actually
takes a lot of the pressure off of is Chris Paul.
If they lose whenever, nobody says Oh, Chris Paul can't
get it done. It's gonna be like no, Kevin Durant

(12:11):
didn't get the job done. So I think there's pressure
on him. But you know, I have to see how
this playoffs plays out before I say that he has
more pressure than a lot of other guys. All Right,
we're getting a lot on Twitter. Like I said, that's
the best way to get a hold of us. Aaron
underscore Torres, I'm a stinking genius. One sucking up coop,
says a Torres. Did you get in trouble or something
for having the work with Arnie? No, actually we got

(12:32):
Torres was the I think, no offense. I think you
were the twelth person we called and first eleven we
couldn't make it, so we just took Torres. Can I
share a funny story? We could do it after the break.
If you want ahead, go go ahead. Well I told
the Sayer this the other night. But you know, obviously
last Monday night, eight days ago, I was in Houston
watching my team win the championship. Uh, the Yukon Huskies.

(12:54):
They be heard about. They beat U San Diego State, AZTECS, Arizona.
What I don't think Arizona made the final. For this,
I can't remember. I'm gonna have to look that up.
I'm not confirming the go ahead, But why I bring
it up? Do my media stuff? Post game in the stadium,
get in the cab wearing a Fox Sports jacket. Cab
driver says, oh, Fox Sports, I love you. I listen

(13:17):
to the radio all the time. I love that Arnie
spanierd guy. And I was sick to my stomach. I
was like, I don't even want I can't even celebrate
this championship anymore. I'm going I'm going home and curling
up in a ball. I'm sick to my stomach. So
I don't know if he still listens to you with
plank on the weekends or if he just you know,

(13:39):
he remembers you from the glory days of the sixties
and seventies in the start of yeah, yeah, yeah, when
when he was driving that horse and buggy, you know,
into the taxi era. So no, but that is a
one hundred percent true story. I'm riding off the high
of what do you know who you were then when
we did Saturday nights or no, I'll tell you the
truth he claimed that he did. Yeah, but but he

(14:01):
did go back to like, oh no, but I mean
I really, Oh yeah, you worked with Arnie, but I
love Arnie, And I was like, yeah, I mean I
worked with them for like four years, so he loves me.
Let me tell you something, you should You should have
seen the tweets I got um after Arizona lost to Princeton.
She would have thought. You would have thought I was
Taylor Swift or something like that. Right. It was just

(14:21):
rolling it and rolling it. And even when I first
made the comment before the game and said we don't
lose the teams like Princeton, um, it started coming in
like I've never ever rooted for Princeton harder than in
my life that I'm rooting against them, against rooting for
them against Arizona, And sure enough, as soon as they won.

(14:42):
I seriously, it must have been thousands on top of
that thousands. Why it was? It was? It was insane.
I'll tell you my phone. I think I got tagged
on a few of those. I had at least two
or three strays from the Artis Spaniard like, Hey, Tauris,
did you see Arnie's team lost? I'm like, yeah, I
have I have a TV and Cable like everybody else. Ye,
now that's worth goes. Oh, I didn't look up the
Arizona score. I didn't know that one. I had him

(15:04):
in my final before I convinced myself, So shame on me.
I should have known they're they're already Spanish teams. So
did I lose to you in the NCA pool? Did you?
All I know is that nobody had a correct final
four pick? Was that the stats something like that? How
did you? How did you not pick Yukon? You want
to know the truth, I'll tell you the one hundred
percent on his truth. Oh my goodness. I had them

(15:25):
many Elite eight against UCLA, and I didn't pick them
because I didn't want to be a homer. Oh you're fired.
You I should be fired. I fired fired immediately. I
put myself in time out by going to Houston for
four days and celebrating their championship there. That was how
I celebrated my time out. You and Bill Murray, I
hate you both now. Oh yeah, that's true. Uh, it

(15:46):
absolutely kills me. All Right, we do have a lot
to get that. We're gonna come back. We'll start. I'll
give you an early look at what's going on in
the Laker game. What are you expecting from them? We'll
take a look at some of the other series out there.

Aaron Torres, I'm Arnie Spaniard right here on Fox Sports
Radio in for the guys tonight, Jason and Smith at
his best friend Mike Carmen a little time off. They
were filling in for Dan Patrick Gills today. We will
never be asked to fill in for Dan. Have you
ever filled in for Dan? I've never filled in for Dan.

(17:12):
I filled in for Dug Gottlie. I've filled in for
Arnie Spanier the one Sunday that he took off, filled
in for Jason and Mike. But I about Colin. They
have you ever filled in for Colin? I've never filled
in for Colin? Wow? I've never filled in in the
super early morning shift either. So I mean Jonas and
Leavar do it from here, So I mean in theory
they could ask me to do it, but they I

(17:32):
have yet to be asked for the three am Pacific
call time for the six am Eastern morning show. Wow,
that's an early one, isn't that. I don't know how
they do it, how they pull out every day and
the LaVar, Leavar and Jonas are in studio too, So
credit to those guys. They get up, they're here. Listen,
those guys. I wrote him a game to do and

(17:54):
they haven't used it yet I'm very disappointed. What is it?
It's I give you the name and you have to
tell me the first name is Lamar or LaVar. Okay,
well I'm not gonna give it to you. It's for them.
I wrote it for them, not for you. Guys. So good.
But but so, I said ball, I would say, right,
so yeah, so even so I came up with ten

(18:15):
different names, and um, are they harder than that one? Yeah,
they're much harder than that one. Okay, there's even a
zinger in there. I put in Edwards far Edwards. There's
Lavelle Edwards. Yeah, I'm good, you are good? Yeah? Good?
My favorite game ever? There? Yeah, because I put a

(18:37):
little zinger on that one. But yeah, like is there?
Who is the Edward? Gust was used to get a
Gus Edwards the Baltimore Edwards. Yu is head. I'm a
college sports guy that's got you, man, you you you
know everything and so unbelievable it is you. I am incredible,
aren't I sorry? Minnesota forty four Lakers forty one. The

(18:58):
Lakers were shooting out like dog do from outside. But
now they've put it together. They made a run. They're
only down by one now forty four forty three, four
seventeen left in the first half, and the Laker crowd
is loving it at it was at Crypto dot com.
I always still want to call it. States call it Staples. Staples.
It's not to get corrected, and then everybody starts showing

(19:19):
what an idiot you are and stuff like anyone who
corrects he was not from Los Angeles and their opinion
on the matter doesn't name account. So nobody out here
calls it crypto. I have not heard a single soul
call it crypto. Oh really, so they still call it
Staples still, dam I big news came today when we're
coming to our football watching because now YouTube has put

(19:42):
out how much it's scoring to cost you for either
the Sunday package or for the red Zone or for both. Now, um,
just for this little exercise, well, let me just give
you what it's scoring to be and then we'll start
adding it up. If you're a YouTube TV subscriber, which
by the way, you don't have to be to get

(20:02):
the football programs here, the red Zone and the football season,
but if you are a YouTube TV subscriber, it would
cost you three hundred forty nine dollars for the season,
but you'll get one hundred dollars off to two forty
nine if you buy it before June sixth. That's for
the Sunday package. If you want to buy the Red

(20:23):
Zone it's three eighty nine, but if you get it
before June sixth, it's two eighty nine. Now I'm guessing
a lot of our listeners for this exercise are not
YouTube subscribers for the most part. And by the way,
if you're asking how much is a subscription for YouTube,
seventy two dollars and ninety nine cents per month, so

(20:45):
seventy three dollars per month. So if you're really just
getting it for the football, which I think most of
our listeners are getting it for the football, they're probably
not going to subscribe for it. So if you're a
non YouTube TV subscriber, the package is four forty nine

(21:06):
for the season before June sixth, three forty nine. If
you want the Red Zone package non subscribers, four eighty
nine if you get it before July sixth, or excuse me,
June sixth, three eighty nine. So let's assume most people

(21:27):
will wait till after June sixth. Most are non subscribers
that's four forty nine and four eighty nine. That's all.
That's that's about short of a thousand dollars for the
two combined. First thing is, first, how do you watch
your football? Torres? Do you do you have the Sunday package?

(21:47):
Do you have the Red Zone package? Do you watch both?
How do you how do you watch your football? Yeah?
So I was gonna say, first of all, as you
throw out those prices, do we know what it costs
to get direct TV last season? Like when it was
on Direct TV? I think, if I'm correct, you had
obviously had Direct TV, So I don't remember how much
that was three hundred dollars four hundred with red Zone,

(22:11):
I was gonna say, but it was another forty nine
dollars for red Zone or one hundred dollars for the
red Zone, another one hundred for the red Zone on
top of obviously having to be a DIRECTIV subscriber. So
that was four hundred dollars for the month. Right, No,
just Sunday ticket, so you would pay for Sunday Ticket
at the start of the year. You would pay four
hundred dollars to get it with red Zone, which you
would have to do. That's four hundred dollars just for that. Now,

(22:35):
you need obviously need the internet to get to YouTube.
I mean, but you're gonna get that anyway. UM imagine
you didn't have internet, Like somebody's just sitting there like, yeah,
I don't need internet. Just give me, give me the
give me the Oh. How do you watch though? I mean,
how are you watching? You get? Do you watch uh?
Do you watch the Red Zone or do you watch
the Package? I was gonna say so, I'm very much

(22:56):
a millennial. Um, I do usually just watch Red Zone? Yeah, yeah,
I've never had direct TV, so obviously the local get
you know, we get a couple great games every every Sunday.
I watch obviously every Monday night game. I watch every
Thursday night Amazon game. But on a Sunday I usually
just keep Red Zone on. Is it too much money? Now,

(23:16):
there's a simple question, is this too much money? Because
not only do you need obviously you need to new
the YouTube. So, by the way, do you buy both
thirty you just buy one. I got to assume most
people are just gonna pick one or the other. They're
not gonna buy the Red Zone and the Package, right,
It's just gonna be one or the other. And that's

(23:38):
not including what people have like Netflix or Apple TV
or Hulu or what Prime Video or HBO Max and
stuff like that, which some of them you really need. Also,
So my questions you are, it's a simple one. Is
that too much money? The four forty nine and the
forty nine or is that just the price of doing business?

(24:00):
If you want to watch the NFL now you know?
So here's my question. If I just have my regular
cable package, can I still watch Red Zone? Or is
red Zone no longer available to me? I don't have
that TV? No, you you you have to get YouTube TV. Yeah,
you have to sign up for the YouTube TV Sunday ticket.
You don't have to be a YouTube to TV subscriber,

(24:20):
but you have to pay for their Sunday ticket. And
how much is that? Again, it's well, if you're not
going to be a subscriber, which you probably won't be
because that's seventy three dollars a month. If you're just
getting get for football, you're not getting it for anything else.
So the only reason you would get to be a
subscribers to save yourself one hundred dollars. And that's that's
the crazy thing to me is that you can't pay

(24:41):
monthly like it's easier, Like I would probably justify it
if I could pay monthly, I would be like, Okay,
it's seventy three bucks a month, that's fine. But having
to pay up front, Yeah, you have to pay it
all at once, that red zone. Paying that all up
front at once, that's a no go for me. Yeah
for what you have to go out? How are you
gonna watch your football that? Just watch whatever's on TV.

(25:04):
I don't know if I can go back to that.
That's like saying, go but let's go back to the
startup internet for christ And there's no there's no ala
carte for your team either, so it doesn't I don't know,
Like I I feel like they missed that because the
NBA does that. You can buy out of market just
that just your team, Uh, the NFL Sunday ticket, you can.
I think they missed the boat on that. Oh is
that too much money for somebody like you that's a producer,

(25:24):
you'd tell me, Oh yeah, get into your personal Oh,
I mean it will come on better, better better, you
know what I'm talking about. Is that too much as
money or yeah, it's it's a little pricey for me.
I will I will happily admit that I cribbed my
mother's direct TV subscription in the last couple of years
for Sunday ticket, So I'm not going to personally pay

(25:45):
five hundred dollars like there's no need. Um, there's there's
other ways to find. You have name Flix, What do
you do? You have Netflix? Hulu, Apple TV? Netflix is
like eleven dollars. Yeah, yeah, I mean I have Netflix.
I do have a cable subscribe. I will say YouTube
TV is the best cable alternative that I've ever used.
I was able to watch the twenty twenty finals with

(26:05):
no issues on YouTube TV. But yeah, I mean I
have Netflix, I have Hulu, I have h You guys,
tell me cut the cord. Cut the cord. You'll save it.
You'll save a bunch of money. I feel like a
paid more more money than ever. Now. You know, there's
there's eventually going to be a point where like some
company offers to isolate all your subscriptions into one bill
and then we're just back at cable again. Yes, and

(26:28):
I think we're getting very close to that, Like we're
because well, I still have Exfinity too, because I get
my internet through my cable. I believe Aaron I was
gonna say, Um, I honestly thought that Arnie's gripe about
this was going to be having to have the Internet
to watch football. Um well, real quick ball. So I

(26:48):
know I'm getting this right because I'm getting a couple
of tweets on this, so I want to make sure
I'm understanding its right. Pretty much. It just as what
Twisty says. The forty nine is for both, my guy, Oh,
that's not for well, it's for it's for The forty
nine is for the Red Zone. It's for Sunday ticket
with Red Zone. Also, the forty nine is for both.

(27:10):
Yeah yeah, but you still you're still paying extra money
to get the Red Zone channel. Well okay, wait a minute.
So for the forty nine, I get to watch all
the Dolphin games if I want to watch it, I
get every game on TV, plus I also get the
Red Zone channel, the Zone channel. Yes, well that's a bargain,
my friend, that's a bargain. I did. I thought it

(27:32):
was that's then station five. There's no way, no no,
I gotta tell you see now, I misunderstood. I thought
it was four forty nine plus four eighty nine or
you pick one to the other. That's a steal. And
by the way, if you didn't want if you just
want to get one of them, it's for forty nine,
and you might as well pay the the extra one
forty dollars. Well, that's how I get you. What do

(27:55):
we get you? I think that's a bargain eron Am
I wrong on that? I mean forty nine get the
red zone and you get the package. You get the
whole thing for less than five hundred dollars forty nine
a month. No, it's forty nine for the whole total.
So that's like for the whole season, for the whole season.
So what is that like fifty Yeah, fifty only for

(28:16):
the NFL stuff. Yeah, I mean, I guess it's going
to lead to the age old question was like how
much is the NFL worth? Like, if you're willing to
pay fifty bucks a month for it, it sounds like
everybody is going to be willing to that's the only alternative,
you know what I'm saying, Yeah, Well, that's what you
have to because I mean that most of our listeners

(28:37):
that's what they do that they're all about the NFL.
Oh yeah, how boys? Sooner said, I've had the NFL,
so they take it max for twenty years. There's no
way in hell I'm paying that much money for YouTube
TV package. Well, and then that turns into the whole
like now you have to basically Now it's basically asking
are you basically willing to just give up cable, you know,
from a traditional sense, to just get YouTube TV as

(28:59):
your cable provider essentially? You know what I mean? Right right?
Is there anything that's on YouTube TV that you can
use besides the football or I think it's just cable
but on YouTube. So I think you get all the
same channels that you would on TV, except it's just
on YouTube. All right, Jason said, a thousand dollars for
some day, take up a seventy five a month for
YouTube I'm out, no, no, no no, no, you don't have

(29:21):
to be a subscriber, so forget about the seventy five
a month. And it's one or the other. So it's
forty nine or four forty nine depending if you want
both or just one of them. By the way, if
you order before June sixth, then you save yourself a
one hundred dollars. But now you're talking three eighty nine.
You know, here's the thing. We're all guys, We're all
gonna wake up Sunday of week one, like how do

(29:43):
I watch these games? What do I have to do?
Who do I have to call? And we're gonna freak out.
Nobody's ordering Sunday ticket on May eleventh. I'm sorry, Like,
I got stuff going on. I gotta figure out whatever.
So it's like ordering a fight, you order it on
the day, that's what i' yeah, he's been like, oh,
Oscar de la Joya is fighting in June. It's January eleventh.

(30:06):
Let's let's just order it now to be safe. Like
that's not how I say you can save yourself one
hundred dollars or that's not enough incentive to someone Like
it sounds great, but you know, to quote like some
TV shows, that's that's future Eron's problem. You know, it's like, uh,
like I'd love to save one hundred dollars now, but
I'd rather just not spend five hundred dollars at all.

(30:26):
So I could spend six hundred and two months, or
I could spend five hundred now. I just don't want
to spend five hundred dollars, So I just it seems
very complicated. Like I said, I'm sure when that first
Thursday hits on Thursday Night Football NBC with Mike Tarico
and Chris Collinsworth, and I'm like, crap, I gotta get
my you know what in gear. Then I'll probably figure

(30:48):
it out then. But but to say, oh, you could
save save eighteen percent if you order now, It's like, yeah,
it's it's uh. It's April twelfth, it's the first week
of baseball season. I'm watching the Rodgers. They just the
season just started. I can't be thinking about Bills Rams.
I just you know, so, it's just too early for you,
and I don't believe it. A lot of people are
gonna be like, but are you gonna real quick, because

(31:09):
I are you gonna like, I guess you're gonna have
to like fundamentally alter your entire Sunday experience right to
make sure that you get what you need to get
on Sundays. Right? Oh? Absolutely, yeah, I mean you have to.
I have to be on top of it. Now, You're right,
I probably won't order it before June. Say, that's what
I'm saying, right, I'll just wait till the last minute.
Like everybody else. But but you're right, we're getting a

(31:30):
lot at your wife. Your wife's gonna see the credit
card statement. Where did you spend five hours dollars? I
told her what it's gonna be. You couldn't believe that.
She's screamed. It's like, are you kidding? Met I, No,
I'm not kidding, not being honest. You just take her
all the bills games. Yeah, exactly, be a good husband
for once in your life. Yeah, that's not my thing.
We're getting a lot of tweets on this. We'll get

(31:51):
to some of the tweets when we get back. Remember
this is all brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive

two if you're gonna get the Sunday package. Right. Here's
such a jerk, but it's gonna cost just somebody. We're

(32:13):
gonna come back. I want to read some of these tweets.
Plus we got some football draft rumors to get to. Next.

behind the scene in Major League Baseball, cars, wind whatever
else we want to talk about. Listen to the Book
of Joe podcast on the iHeartRadio app, on Apple Podcasts

Of course, Taurus and Spaniards sitting in for the guys
Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Harman. We're coming

(33:18):
to you alive from the Tirek dot com studios. Lakers
trailed by five ninety five ninety I believe Minnesota has
the ball a little bit over four minutes aft of
the game. Let's go to our guest out of Vegas.
Do you hear him on the weekends right here on
five Sports Radio. It's our buddy, Bernie Fratto. How are
you doing, Bernie, Well, gentlemen, good evening. You know lebron

(33:39):
once said that whoever created the planned tournament should be fired.
I think the gas should get raised. I don't know
about you. I like it, Yeah, no, I've I've enjoyed it.
Just no doubt. We have a two extra teams and
you know, so much as at stake out here, and Bernie,
how much was this for the money? Lind if you
took Minnesota, I know they were getting at eight and
a half, but could you have gotten like three and
a half four to one out of this or something

(34:01):
like that. Well, no, it's not that high. It's about
two sixty sixty two. The tickets are on the Lakers,
and you know, the conversation in the last three days
has not been with the Lakers. When a play in
game it's will they win a championship? And I'm like,
come on, man, now, look, I respect the Lakers. They
started out two and ten this year, they made some moves.
They finished sixty and seven down the stretch, and when

(34:23):
the playoff field was announced, the Lakers, who were between
twenty two and twenty five to one, depending on where
the shop, to win the championship. So I get a
buddy calls me up and he says, hey, I'm thinking
about putting some money on the Lakers to win the
whole thing. I think they're gonna be good. I said, listen,
if you want to donate to the book, that's fine,
but I might recommend you take that money and give
it to the American Cancer Society. It'd be better for you.

(34:46):
They're now down to fourteen to one. The Lakers are
like Tiger Woods. People bet them no matter what. And
my issue with them is they just think they're better
than they are. You know, the other night, Lebron hits
a three pointer and he puts the crown on his head.
He like, twenty nine percent behind the arc for the year.
By the way, the t Wolves are eight and four
without Rudy Gobert. Now look there's a long way to go.

(35:07):
I remember covering a Pistons team one year and they
got down to the they weren't the Washington Wizards, and
it looks scary, and they came back. So let's see
what happens. But I am not buying that the Lakers
are really a championship contender at all. I think their
fool's gold. I'll due respect, Burt, let may I just
ask you a pretty simple question. So you live out
in Vegas, obviously we all know that you know the

(35:27):
NFL season is King, March Madness is King. For a
week or two period. What is the foot traffic like
in the sports books this time of year when you
have two three games a night during these NBA playoffs, well,
on the week nights, it's it's it's sparse, it's not.
It's nothing like it is during major events or standalone
events or football. To the football players are like March Madness,

(35:48):
the super Bowl and March Madness or King and everything
else is a distant second. So you could, you know,
you could fire a cannon. He was more most spots
or sports books than I not hit anybody. That doesn't
mean they're still not actual down these games, But I
consider the NBA in the NBA playoffs filler. You'll you'll
see more action coming up here in about two weeks
on the NFL Draft. But there's always action. If there

(36:09):
are games and they're on TV, there's always gonna be action.
But it's it's significantly less than than the Super Bowl
or March Madness. Before we get to the other series
we really had dramas. We want to put you on
the spot, Bertie, I hope you're not gonna get mad
at this question, but it is true or not true?
Did you have words? Would Bradley beel about a gambling
beat out there? Was that you that? How with him?

(36:31):
Or what's going on there? Bertie? Yeah? Yeah, I can't lie.
I can't lie, but I got mixed up. I thought
it was Matt Bradley, a San Diego State trying to apologize.
Great kid. Is that gonna happen more? We're gonna have
more gamblers getting like players faces like you cost me this,
you cost me that? Or is that just one lunatic
out there? What do you think? Oh no, it happens
all the time. Really, Oh oh yes, It typically doesn't

(36:55):
make the news because most likely a player is not
going to come in or the players not going to
come in contact with a fan and flick his hat off,
and then the fan is just mine. He wants to
sue him for his salt and about it. No, I've
been in for a long time seeing situations where a
guy comes to a free throw line and some of
you better make this, any of you, you know that

(37:15):
kind of stuff, And yeah, that's been an issue for
quite a while. So you know, some of these folks
show it's not rampant in terms of the fact that
maybe less than one percent of the fans would ever
do something like that. But anytime you get some of
these knuckleheads that have been hooked up to a blender
since eight in the morning, then they go to the
game that night and they got a few shekels on
the game and they can't afford it. They don't know

(37:36):
what they're doing. You know, That's what had happened sixty
by the way, sixty two percent of the tickets around
the Lakers tonight they thought they just show up and
you know, in breeze, let me ask you a dumb
question as a follow up to that, Bernie, has there
been any talk about, you know, this is a new world.
Sports gambling is more prevalent, but also so is social media.
Is there any has there be any talk about potential

(37:57):
future repercussions for people that eventually threatened the guy, Oh,
how'd you miss that free throw? You know, better not
sleep at night or something like. I'm not trying to
be facetious, but like, there are people that, like you said,
they have a few too many, They get a few
too you know, they get a little too twitter confident.
Has there been any talk about how to I guess

(38:17):
you would say, regulate people from being total idiots to
these athletes that have nothing to do with this this
sports gambling stuff. Well, it's already been handled over the
years for all the sports. NBA security, NFL security, Major
League Baseball security is very tight, as is the security
in all the arenas and talk as cheap. As of yet,
there hasn't really been any significant incident. The truth of

(38:38):
the matter is most of these guys that do this
only have twenty bucks in the game. Any Yeah, yeah,
but but but to your point, it's done behind the scenes,
and it's done very discreetly, in a very sort of
clandestine way, so you know, you can't get into a
stadium anymore without the you know, being strip searched. So
fortunately people are bringing weapons into stadiums. But you regular,
you bring up an interesting point, Aaron, because you know what,

(39:00):
you never know, someone could cross the line, lose your
mind some day. But but you know, for now it's
been pretty well under come. Wasn't there a movie The Fan? Yeah, yes,
about nineteen ninety five Roberton Euro Yeah, I don't remember
where it was about. I think it was about Azy
Well he was stalking his favorite player, basically kept showing
up at his house all that. Yeah, he's the one
that kidnapped the Boston Celtic guys, the players. Was that

(39:21):
movie that was with Damon Wayne's right, damn way and yeah,
there you go. That was a really bad movie. That
was like a straight to try to miss that one
straight to me. I read the book though I didn't,
but I didn't see the movie at Bernie tell everybody
why you go ahead and check you out on weekends,
my friend, So the Bernie Fratto Show Friday nine eleven
pm Pacific to two am, and then Saturday night eleven

(39:44):
pm to three am. We play all the hits, appreciate
it and Thanks for having me on. Guys, you're the best. Bernie.
Appreciate it. Always listening to you Bernie Fratto. If you
haven't heard him, check him out on weekends. By the way,
at the end of your first year, discovered credit cards.
Thought about a good double all the cash back you've
earned that that's right, everything you've earned double ball Seriously
see terms and check it out for yourself at discover

(40:07):
dot com. Slash match, Let's see what's trending. We got
a good one going on with my Lakers in Minnesota.
Let's sticking with the sager. What's going on the saga?
Lebron James three pointer ties Minnesota at ninety five under
two minutes to go. Now, until that shot, the Laker
Will Dennis Shooter had a couple three pointers off the
bench aside from him, the Lakers from three point range,

(40:29):
We're five for twenty five. Minnesota's gone five minutes scoreless
here late in the game, and the Lakers have the
ball in a tie game under one minute to go.
In this playing matchup, the winner tonight starts the first
round of the playoffs at two seed Memphis this weekend.
Tonight's loser will have to play Friday to stay alive
in the postseason. Earlier it was Atlanta winning at Miami

(40:52):
one sixteen to one oh five. Tomorrow in the East,
Toronto will host the Bulls in a playing game, and
it'll be Oklahoma City at New Orleans in the West
tomorrow night when the losers are out Tomorrow, Minnesota shooting
three of sixteen from the floor in the fourth quarter
and not leading anymore. The only good thing I suppose
is that Carl Anthony Towns has still been playing with

(41:14):
the five fouls and still on the court. He's still
playing ninety five ninety five, about thirty seconds left in
regulation in La. Towns with twenty four points, Mike Conley
with twenty from three point range. Conley is six of
seven in the NHL. Boston set the league's points record
with one thirty three this season. Bruins won again five
to two against Washington. Winnipeg clinched the last playoff berth

(41:37):
in the West, winning three to one at Minnesota, and
among the ten games tonight, final seconds in Vegas Golden
Nights up four one on Seattle. Everything is final already
here at nine thirty Pacific time. In Major League Baseball,
four seconds straight night. San Francisco shot out the Dodgers
five nothing. Jack Peterson X Dodger had a two run

(41:58):
double in the first. Giants led two thing most of
the night until bottom of the eighth, when they back
to back home runs. The loss to starter Dustin May,
who went five and a third. Great start for Milwaukee's
Corbin Burns in a seven one win at Arizona, the
Brewers record eight and three. Burns went eight scoreless innings,
eight strikeouts, no walks. The loss to Merrill Kelly, who
did have a no hitter through six showhy Otani with

(42:20):
the win for the Angels on the mound. They beat
Washington two now thing Otani seven scoreless innings, one hit, allowed,
six strikeouts, five walks. Saint Louis with three runs in
the top of the ninth one at Colorado nine to six.
Texas in ten innings, beat Kansas City eight to five.
Tampa Bay is eleven and oh after a seven two
win against Boston, Miami's Luisa Riyas hit for the cycle,

(42:43):
a first in Marlin's history, and an eight four victory
at Philadelphia and at Baltimore. Ryan Mountcastle of the Orioles
nine RBIs in a twelve eight win over Oakland, which
has lost six straight games. Mountcastle a three run homer
and a grand slam updating the basketball thirty seconds left,
Lakers ninety five Minnesota ninety five in this playing game again.

(43:05):
Tonight's Winter will start the first round at two seed
Memphis this weekend. Back to you, all right, thanks for
at the singer. We're coming to you live from the
tirek dot com studios. Of course, Aaron Torrez aren'ty Spaniard
for Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Harman. The
Lakers had the ball with thirty two seconds left. They
were inbounding. Get did they call that foul on? Lebron?

(43:26):
Sure did. He basically tackled the guy and he did
the whole Lebron like, what do you want from me?
I don't know what I did wrong there, took out
his knees, horrible pass, good defense, It got knocked down
the court. He dove for the ball. Um, Yeah, he
didn't do anything. He didn't do anything wrong. He oh,
he didn't do anything wrong. No, but but he got
up acting like how was that a fall on? Are

(43:47):
they gonna review that or what? Exactly? I don't know
what they're doing, maybe to make sure it went off
of I think if it's a it's a foul. Yeah,
So I don't know. I don't know what they could
possibly be reviewing unless they didn't call a foul and
went they're just going that it went out of bounds
off him. I don't have to sound down, but um,
how do you go ahead and throw a bad pass

(44:08):
like that on the inbound I mean, my goodness, man,
somebody said a screen so he gets open. That was
a horrible pass out there. It may cause him this game.
It's ninety five nine, five thirty point three seconds left
and now there's gonna be a full twenty four seconds left.
Obviously the ball is gonna go to Minnesota. But that
was that was horrible out there. That was that was miserable, Torres.

(44:28):
It was, by the way, to de Sager's point, knock
on wood if you're a te Wolves fan, Karl Anthony
Towns has been able to survive this fourth quarter basically
in foul trouble the entire time. So, um, you know,
if this game goes to overtime, that's something a monitor.
But he's been able to survive so far with this
overtime Lebron's the one to hit the three to go
ahead and tie it up. It was ninety five ninety two,

(44:49):
and Lebron, with a hand in his face, hit a
long three to tie it up at ninety five. So
Lebron is doing his part, even though his plus minus
doesn't doesn't really show. Uh, Aaron, it really doesn't make
much of a difference because he has thirty points right
now with minus twenty on the plus minus. But anyway,
Minnesota gonna have the ball off a full twenty four

(45:10):
seconds and there's thirty seconds. You're ahead of me, Torres, right,
so um, you'll know if Minnesota makes this way before
I will. They did not make it. It's for darn sure,
well they that was a good call. Nobody on the
Lakers touched it. It went off. He dribbled it between
his legs. Yeah, you're right. Anthony Davis was guarding Kyle Anderson.

(45:34):
Uh you know, maybe his visions a little blurred from
getting popped in the face the other day, but Anthony
Davis was guarding him, and he just control the ball,
and so Lakers ball, and they'll get one last shot
because there's twenty one point seven seconds left. Lakers with
the ball and they're having trouble getting it all over again,
so they gotta call time out. That is the word.

(45:56):
I don't know who worked on the inbound play, but
they've got to work on some other one because one
guy just stood in the back court and didn't even
move the guy on him, so you couldn't even get
the ball to him. I don't know who's working on it,
but they need new inbound plays. That was horrible. Also,
can can I tell you guys exactly what's about to
happen on in this final possession? And if I goes
home for the last hour, twenty one point seven seconds left,

(46:18):
you're gonna have Lebron dribble the air out of the
ball and he's gonna take a long fade away jumper
that hits off the back iron and we get over time.
You might not be wrong on that, to be honest,
If I'm if I'm right, Arnie, you get to go home,
and you got to be you may be right on that.
That that seems to be. You know, I've seen that
a lot where he'll just dribble, dribble, dribble out by

(46:40):
the three point line, fake that he's gonna go to
the bucket, because when you go to the bucket in
this situation, you really never get the call to your torrez.
I mean, once in a while you'll get the call
with Lebron doesn't Oh, if anybody's gonna get the call,
it's gonna be Lebron if anybody gets it. But I
don't know. If you have a no and shot, i'd
say take it, because, um, you know they they're gonna

(47:03):
smack anyway. And if you don't get the call, you
not even have a little legitimate chance at it. You're
a little bit at you. You're making up for all
those years I had bad of you, guys. Jalen sugs.
I'll never forget the half court buzzer beater in the
Final four Arnie Spaniards yelling and screaming before I ever
saw it though, that was you, and I wouldn't know
we were doing the show. Yeah, Jalen sucks ninety five

(47:25):
ninety five, twenty one point seven seconds left. The shot
clock is off, so the Lakers will have the one
final chance they do get the ball in bounds, to
throw it away in the backcourt, to go and get
it in bounds, and you may be rifles Lebron is
just holding it up at the logo and he might
just go ahead and just wait and then uh throw
up a three pointer. That might see what happens there. Anyway,

(47:46):
they'll have one last chance and guess what, the Lakers
are gonna win this game? How about that? Well, the
only thing I will say a rule that I hate
but is going to come in handy here because the
tea Wolves will get the ball at half court. By
the way, that was the worst play by play I've ever.
I know, we're not allowed to do play by play,
so that's why I don't do it. The Lakers hit

(48:06):
the three pointers. Yeah, I'll I'll say is Kevin Burkhart
should not be worried about his up. I'm not allowed
to do the play by play. For those who missed it,
the Lakers hit a three with one point four seconds
left off a Lebron passed to take the lead. If
he misses that, everybody would have criticized Lebron for not
taking the final. Do you remember that, Like, I don't
know if you remember, remember like that first finals that
he was in against the Pistons and there was like

(48:28):
a big shot that he made the perfect pass and
the guy missed it and that was kind of like
the shot that they just made right now. Yeah, and
everyone's like, well, I mean, if he was really a superstar,
he would have taken the shot. It's like, sh shut up,
but got a reverse lay up there. I'm surprised he
did pass that out. To be honest with you, it
was a smart basketball play. One thing you criticize Lebron
for whatever, he is a basketball savant. And but what

(48:49):
I was gonna say was I hate that you get
the ball at half court out of a time out,
but it does make this exact situation much more compelling.
So him and Lebron kind of taunting Minnesota at that point,
doing the ice in the veins, uh, you know, signal there,
And so could you imagine if they got a technical
foul for that? That's a technical foul? How funny would

(49:12):
that be? One point four seconds left, Lakers are by three,
ninety eight, ninety five. They're gonna win this game, which
means they'll probably go not probably, they're gonna be the
number seventh seed and take on Memphis in the best
of seven and that one and that one starts on Sunday,
I believe goodness, we No, don't tell me something what

(49:34):
crazy happened? Because if it did, no, the that's it
game is gonna be Oh wait a minute, I'm confused.
Did they just call a foul? And Anthony Davis while
Minnesota was shot to get a three pointer with point
one second left and his what was his foot on
the line? We got to see if it's foot if

(49:54):
it was a three pointer. No, that's that's gonna be
a three point shot. How do you oh a foul
on that? That's a bad I'll say this, I'm not
a second I'm not mister Laker. That was a tough
foul call. Oh my goodness, that was the Laker fans
are gonna be rioting after that one. If they go
ahead and make all three of this there's one tenth

(50:17):
of a second. Edit Spike Connelly, who was a good
foul shooter. I don't know what he is for the
game today. I have to go ahead and look that up.
Matter of fact, he's these are gonna be his first
foul shots in the game. But how do you call
that with a tenth of a second left? And he
looked like he flopped out there. Oh and he rolled

(50:37):
in the face. That I'm trying not to ruin it
for you. He rolled that first one in, so it's
now ninety eight ninety six, two more foul shots. Laker
fans are gonna be livid over this one. What do
you think good call? Torres are bad call? I think
that this game has literally everything that everyone complains about
March Madness college basketball, like audio play, too many fouls,

(51:01):
bad refereeing. This is literally this is this is a
college basketball game with professional players, turnovers at the worst time,
bad referees, whatever, unbelievable. We're going overtime, Aretin. We're gonna
go to overtime. By the way, at the end of
