Ever you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome inside The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon.
Steve de Sega in for Harmon tonight. Hey, Steve, it's
a live drop Friday, as it always is. Hey, Happy
Aaron Rodgers Eve, because it could be tomorrow With Aaron Rodgers,
it doesn't matter. Every live every day like it's Aaron

(00:48):
Rodgers Eve. I'm gonna start tagging my emails with that
and live every day like it's Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
E says, we haven't been sick enough of this story already.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
I don't know every day could happen to morrow, could
happen to morrow. I'm really am gonna do that. I'm
gonna do it, But then, like I don't know how
professional would my emails be if I had to actually
write one, you know, a professional email to somebody and
they live every day like it's Aaron Rodgers e. What
is that? Even? No time like to present that kind
of you know what. That's one thing, you know, you
know what grinds my gears, Dave. You know that. I

(01:17):
always when people tag their email, I'm like, don't don't
give me some inspirational saying.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
I mean you don't want to be inspired?

Speaker 1 (01:23):
I didn't, I didn't, you know, listen, listen, Tony Robbins.
Why do I want to live a better line? I'm
not emailing you for your advice on life, just you know,
just just just write on my email back do you? Okay? Great?
But you know, do you give me something at the
end about Hey, make sure the one percent of your
life that you live every day is the ninety nine
percent of everybody. I'm like, what is don't do that?

(01:43):
Don't do that for me. Don't just just send me
an email and that's it. Don't don't tag it for me.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
So you are not personally keeping Hallmark in business.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
No, although we do keep well, that is incorrect because
there is a big run. We always have a big
run of Hallmark Christmas movies. The big Holiday Holladay. Oh sure, yeah,
they are a big deal. They're becoming a bigger deal
in our house as more actors and actresses that Wet
Pam and I loved in the nineties now are only
acting in Hallmark movies. So that's our only place to

(02:13):
see them.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Well, I mean, you can't go wrong with Dana y mckeller.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
That's it. I can't get Gallop Grady. Oh she's in
this movie. Okay, great? Yeah, Galo Grady was so great.
N White Beatie Blue. I'll get it right. This is fantastic.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Has dannic mckeller made a bad Hallmark movie?

Speaker 1 (02:27):
You're talking about Dana Keller. She's one of like the
three wise men of Hallmark Channel with her and Lacey
Shabert exactly, and who else was it? It was her,
Lacy Shabert.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
And we need more Kim Fields. Can I put in
a vote for Kim Field?

Speaker 1 (02:43):
You know? Can we have a Facts of Life reunion? Bingo?

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Didn't we have some TV movie of theirs where all
four wound up making an appearance by the end of it,
Lisa Welchol all.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Of them really did? I did not know that. I
gotta look for that.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
I think it was a Kim Fields movie.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
It was okay, all right, very good, I mean uprising
that in the end, you know, okay, who's doing that again?

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Obviously we would vote for that.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Who's going to be the most famous out of all
of it? It's gonna be Kim Fields. Oh but she's
gonna be really really famous.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
This a wel chair has her own show on weekends.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
You'll be happy to be in the movies. Yeah, no, Look, hey,
Nancy McKean was my favorite. I mean, like I wanted
to marry Nancy McKeen when when I was.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
I believe she only appeared on the phone. Really, see,
she doesn't make a lot of appearances, as you may know.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
You know, I actually met her once in a really
weird you want to hear you want to hear a
really good story before you get wait a second, shocker. Yes,
it was weird.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
You met one of the actresses from facts.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Well, listen, I had the biggest crush on Nancy McKeon
for the longest time. Like she was it like she
was I want to marry.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Nan, unlike anybody else from New York.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yeah, I love Nancy McKean, right, Oh my god, Nancy McKean,
was it. I loved her little larder. So this is
maybe is a long time ago. This is maybe about
I would say about fifteen years ago. Fifteen.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
The show was on in the eighties, right, yeah, oh, the.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Show was eighties, early nineties. You know, they moved on,
they moved into peak skill and then you know, Chloris
Leachman came on the show, and then they brought in Mikyler.
Let's say, we don't we get the filmography of the
Facts of Life. It's fine, you know. George Clooney was
there for a little bit. No, no, no, So we
were at the Grove here in Los Angeles, which is
like a big shopping area, and then during the holidays,

(04:19):
they liked the Christmas tree.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
It's a guy who spent a billion dollars running for
mayor and didn't win. He owns the grove.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Yes, so it's kind of like, you know, and they
liked the Christmas tree. And there's a special on in
Elliot It's really like, hey, can we do something kind
of like the Rockefellow Center in New York. Yeah, fine,
they do that. So they like the tree. So this
is about fifteen years ago, and we were there for
the holidays and we had friends come out. We said, hey,
let's go spend the afternoon at the Grove. It's a
pretty cool shopping place where left lunch, everything else great.

(04:45):
So we go out there and there's an area where
in the middle of the grove which is like all
these shopping areas surrounding like a like a big center
where there's grass and there's cement and everything, and it's
kind of like a little park. And so we're with
our friends and they have two kids and their kids
are playing in the grass and we're watching them and
they're playing. Other kids are running around to playing, and

(05:06):
they start playing with this one girl and they're playing
for a few minutes. It's kind of fun. Oh that's
kind of fun. Literally, they're running, they're playing tag, they're
chasing each other. And so then you know, we're watching,
going okay, we're leaving a couple minutes, okay, five minutes, okay, great,
five minutes and then you know, walking over to get
her daughter, I look over and it's Nancy McKeon, and
I go, I go, oh, hi, she was hi. Yeah,

(05:28):
you're playing. Your kids are playing with my daughters. Oh,
it's not my kids. It's her, but that that's great.
She goes, oh, yeah, what are their names? And I
tell them their names and I said, what's your daughter's names?
Tells me your daughter's names, like, oh that that's great,
that's great, and she goes, okay, yeah, great, hey, nice
meeting you. Happy holidays. I said, okay, great, and she
turned away. I wanted to go, I've loved you for
so long. They weren't ruined it.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
You were good so far. Don't ruin it.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
My wife is right here.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
But I love you. I loved you longer than I've
loved her since nineteen eighty five.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
Steve, don't think for one second he didn't really do that.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I really wanted to do that. I absolutely, I so
wanted to do that. But she was really nice. I
was like, that was it? Like if I was single,
Oh man, the kid would have had game. But you know,
where were you hiding? I was, no, it was it
was everything was very above board. Everything was completely above board.
It was one hundred percent no, no, no, everything was legit.
Everything was legit. And she was very nice. Okay, great nights.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Man. I was like, she was so nice because you
didn't yell after her like you were wanting to.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yeah, this is where God said, watch me mess with
a Smith kid. Watch this. I would have put that
and put him in the same place as Nancy McKeon.
But now he's been married for a while, and hey
watch this, watch this, let's see what happens here. And
then everybody's just laughing, going look at the look on
his face when Nancy McKeon walks away. Ah, that was
so funny. That was hilarious.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Lady to Philip McKeon as she does.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Yes, Yes, the late Philip McKeon. What about Jack McKean
trader Jack McKeon, I don't think so. He would have
traded everybody. He would have traded everybody in this FAMI
and then let a cigarette.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Uh.

Slash match Well a Big Night in the NBA. The
final play in game is underway, Minnesota leading Oklahoma City

(07:26):
sixteen to twelve. This time it counts no punches have
been thrown yet, but it is early, so we'll keep
an eye on that. But meanwhile, you're talking within the
team with it, well or outside. Maybe they're graduating outside
the team now they punch. We've punched within the team earlier.
Now we're outside the team.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Not that smart, it's hey, why not, we're stupid.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Hey, if the cameras aren't on us, maybe we will.
But earlier tonight, a back and forth battle that was
a one point game with like a minute a half
left to go, but the Heat pull away to beat
the Bulls one two ninety one. The Heat move on
to the playoffs. Are gonna be everybody's favorite Darling watch
the Heat. They're gonna beat the Bucks. All this blah
blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Somebody's saying that.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
I'm sure, because look, everybody, I like the Heat going
into the playoffs. I don't like them now that they're
playing the Bucks. I would rather had them play the Celtics,
because the Celtics just look like they've become a two
person team in the last couple of months. They were terrific,
and now it's ooh, it's really just Tatum and Brown
and Brown cut his hand because ooh, ooh, that's really different.
So they're not quite the Celtics, aren't this This two

(08:26):
seeds streaming into the playoffs kind of like the Grizzlies are.
But everybody's gonna be gonna be all over the heat.
Now the heat. And I get it because Jimmy Butler,
we've seen him in the playoffs before, and Tyler Hero
had a big night and you know, you know we
watch Struss at thirty one points. This was awesome. I
mean from the start, I mean plus twenty seven leading
the team. I was seven out of twelve from three

(08:47):
point RNs, like.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
Just in the first half, six of eight from long distance.
He's the reason they weren't blown out early.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
No, it's it's insane. It's like, Okay, if you're the Bulls,
you're going If we lose the Butler, fine, we lose
the Hero, that's fine, but we've lose who's got thirty one?
But this is where I want to go for a
couple minutes here, because this is something that it defies
logic and it's probably it's one of the biggest mysteries
in the NBA, and it's I don't know how the

(09:13):
Bulls aren't better. I don't know how they're this bad.
I don't know how they're a five hundred team that
can't put it together. When you have a big three
of Levigne and Vussovich and DeRozan who can all fill
it up, these should be just with the three of them,
they should be winning fifty some odd games during the

(09:34):
regular season and be a top three to four seed.
Then when you talk about the guys you have coming
off the bench, Kobe White's been a pretty effective point
guard the last couple of years, kind of a down
year this year, but he'd have a big night tonight.
And Andre Drummond is very serviceable, not quite the Andre
Drummond of a couple of years ago. But then you
throw in guys like Alex Caruso, who has won a
championship and comes up with big plays now and again.

(09:56):
And Patrick Beverley playing pat at zero points tonight. Coach
by Billy Donovan, who is one of the best coaches
in the NBA and college basketball. How do they not win?
How does this team not They have all the ingredients
to win. You need star players. We got star players.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
They essentially have three twenty point a game scorers.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Yeah, it makes absolutely zero sense. As zero sense. You
have three stars, you have a decent enough role players
behind you, not unbelievable role players, but enough in the NBA,
like I said, to win over fifty games in a season,
and you have a really good coach. You have a
coach been to the NBA finals. He's been able to
manage egos for the years. He was in Oklahoma City,

(10:36):
Billy Donovan's. And this is where the Bulls are. You know,
they had a decent year last year, but they still
only won forty six games and they were barely in
the playoffs. Now. I don't understand how the balls aren't better,
I really don't. It baffles me to the point where
I think they should just blow it up now, because
if you can't win with what you have here, you
have everything there, and how you're underachieving is an absolute

(10:56):
mystery because it makes no sense and it's inexcusable.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
And they can play low scoring games. They have the
three scorers we mentioned, keep the opponent under one hundred
a lot opponent. They can keep the shooting down a lot.
I agree they should be. I mean, they weren't even
a five hundred team this year. They won a game
to get here tonight to play at Miami, and that
made them what forty one and forty two going into
this evening ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
And you know who's going home? Jason, Who's going home?
Patrick Bevery? He went from just yesterday he was playing
Pat and now it's oh, Pat Beverly's going home. Twenty
seven minutes, no points, four found joy Cancun dogoo man,
Pat bev. But he did kind of get his round. Look,

(11:40):
he didn't care about this. He just wanted to get
revenge on the Lakers at the end of the season and.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Not working out for him, but was working out. The
Lakers play on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
It doesn't matter but that, but that was the end
of Pat Beverly just wanted to end their season. He
didn't go beyond that. He just wanted to make sure
he has no end of the season. They're back. The
Lakers are still back. I really, because this is this
is it's not even quite the Knicks where the Knicks
have been. Look, the Knicks and the Bulls being the
teams they've been the last ten to fifteen years. Royalty

(12:09):
teams in the NBA, the heritage teams that that when
they're better, the NBA is better. When the Knicks stunk
for so long, it was Okay, here's complete mismanagement. The
Stars aren't really great stars, they don't play well together,
the head coaching situation now. But the Bulls have all
the ingredients. They got three stars. They got DeMar DeRozan,
who suddenly is whoa this guy become an MVP candidate

(12:29):
in his thirties. Look at this, and Vucevic is really good,
and Lavigne is someone who, hey, we get our hands
on him. He's the next great superstar in the game.
He can do everything. And still they can't win.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Okay, I can Tarls because I just looked up their
season stats regular season Chicago as a team forty nine
percent shooting and from the foul line eighty one percent shooting.
How how are you not even at the five hundred
mark for the season.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Really, it's a what's that? What's the what's the old said?

Speaker 3 (12:58):
The Stars played? It's not like they all twenty games?

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Yeah, no, no, no, this is not where all I'm
missing time and I'm coming in here and up and back,
and we got a couple of guys in, and we
have a couple of guys out. No, they were, they've been,
they've had everything. That's what I mean, Steve. It's a mystery.
It's a complete and total mystery.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
And it's another l and they're out. And the Miami
Heat will face number one Milwaukee starting Sunday. That's inexcusable
for the bull By the way, most of the Eastern
teams start Saturday. I believe some team from New York
has a game this weekend as well, starting at best
of seven.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Yeah, they do have that. But speaking of teams from
New York, I'm glad you brought this up because about
ten minutes I want to say, I want to say
about twenty minutes ago, I want to kiss you. I
watched Francisco Lindor have a ridiculously awful at bat in
the first inning. Oboe yet them off. I sometimes, and
I tweeted out, sometimes I watch Francisco Lindor bat and

(13:53):
I go, what the hell was he trying to do
in that at bat? I don't understand with a two
and ozer count how he winds up. I don't get it.
I don't get it and then I just watch him
now ten seconds ago. Grand Slam game over. It is
against the A's, so but it's still it still counts
for four runs six nothing. Mets lead the A's right
now over six in the second and at the top

(14:15):
of the line.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
I'm not kidding, it's the top of the second. This
game is over. You agree with me?

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Yeah, you got ghost Fork in. Come on, you got
Senga in. That's right.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
And then the a starting pitcher, his era is up
near fifteen now for the seas and the A's are
going to be three and eleven after tonight.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
I bet Steve, I'll I bet you can spend a
long time come back here, not against the win or
to score a run against me if you're watching on
YouTube TV, though not against the ghost Fork. At the
end of your first year, Discover credit cards automatically double
all the cash back of her and that's right, everything

(14:50):
you were in doubled. Seriously see terms. Check it out
for yourself at Discover dot com. Slash match. It is shameful.
The Bulls still can't win with this kind of talent,
this kind of coaching.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Unbeliev hoopfest.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
All right, now, minute to go, in the first quarter,
Oklahoma City making it tight. Minnesota leads the Thunder twenty
four to twenty three again under a minute to go
in the first quarter. The winner moves on, the loser
goes home, and the loser goes in the fire. But
coming up next, you want to talk about a big
story out of the NBA, something that happened today. I

(15:22):
can't believe somebody actually said what they said. That's coming
up next right here, Jason Smith, Steve to Sag, You're
in for Mike Harmon on a live drop Friday. This
is Fox Sports Radio.

(16:08):
match well look at this the entire baseball world. Cody
Bellinger batting in Los Angeles, this time as a member
of the Cubs against Noah Cinderguard. Hey is batting average
is up to two thirty eight. Yeah, all you had
to do is get out of LA. It's all he
had to do is get out of Los Angeles and
where we're good Man, I could hit two forty, but

(16:29):
I'm stuck in LA.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
I didn't say two forty.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Let's not be optimistic here.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
I mean I had two fifteen, but get me out
of LA. I would get that batting average up to
close to two fifty. And he just grounded out against
Noah's of course he did. Boy Bellinger versus cinder Guard,
that was a hell of a match up. In twenty seventeen,
it was Jason, are you getting PTSD watching four.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
On the mound?

Speaker 2 (16:51):
No?

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Because I can actually see the rotation on his pitches
because he only throws sixty five miles an hour.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Now, So who's up next? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (16:57):
You o pueeg Yeah yeah. And Steve mats Is gonna
come in the pitch. Uh is gonna come in after this?

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Matt Harvey, Matt Harvey.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
Kevin Hey too, soon for Matt Harvey to Matt.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
Harvey day must be a dark night.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Same thing as Aaron Rodgers Eve, not Matt Harvey Day. Uh.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
The Jason Smith Show Steve Sager in from Mike Harmon
tonight again a big night here on the show. We
have the big playing game, the last one, uh we
are seeing and the winner goes on, loser goes home,
loser goes in the fire. Timberwolves thirty one points, no punches,
Oklahoma City twenty five, about ten minutes to go in
the second court, and.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Rudy Gobert started go beart oh for one shooting from
the floor in the first half.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
But you have to you have to. You have to
emphasize shooting the basketball.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Oh and no blocks?

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Yeah, okay, yeah, you have to emphasize he shooting, he's
he's not he's yeah, no, no, no punch is at anybody?

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Okay, So now shooting the breeze either, I guessing.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Has he touched anybody's phone?

Speaker 1 (17:58):
Oh? Wow, too so too soon, that's too soon, too
soon for that, too soon for that.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Now, a couple of big stories to get to.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Any times.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
I made fun of COVID and I punched a teammate's yeah,
not good. Uh So we talked about the Bulls a
few minutes ago and just how insane it is that
the Bulls are not any better, inexcusable that the talent
they have the coach, yah there not any better. But
a subplot to this game that we watched, the Heat win,
involved DeMar de Rozan's daughter, who became a huge media

(18:31):
sensation a couple of days ago in the playing game
when they showed her behind the the basket trying to
make faces and yelling and screaming when the opponent when
components were shooting free throws, which was really kind of fun, right,
and there was a little fun I forget freaks, you
know that the Heat went out and put out a sign,
a fun sign before the game saying no screaming around
the seats where she would be, saying it was really

(18:52):
kind of fun. And then the story breaks before the
game that his daughter, who was fine by the way,
she's fine, had to be escorted from the arena due
to online threats. She's nine, nine years old, nine and
she had to be escorted from the arena because of
online threats. Now, everything is fine, She's okay. Everybody's okay.
But here's the fact that this is someone who got

(19:14):
a lot of notoriety because she's someone's daughter. And she
was yelling during free throws, which is absolutely adorable.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
It's hilarious, and it was a story because they shrom
the line. It lost some season's over.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
She was getting all the attention, right, this is why
the bulls won. They shot poorly because she's yelling.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
The raptors were home and blew about at twenty point leads. Yeah,
the years done.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
It was, it was it was really really fun, right,
it was really fun. And then this is what happens.
And I'll tell you, uh to see this story, and
I see a lot of the outrage, and of course
it's it's outrageous. She's nine years old and so and
people are threatening her online. But man, I'll tell you
this is where this is. Is not one of those Hey,
this is the state of the world. But I'll tell
you what you wanna. You wanna go online to certain places,

(19:59):
sometimes it's Twitter. Sometimes on the social media, you will
find the worst of mankind. It is not even close.
You find the worst of us in the United States.
You find the worst of anybody in the world for anything,
for any story that seems awful, there's there's something out
there that says, Nope, we're gonna make this worse. So
many people are just mad and they want to fight,

(20:21):
and they're unreasonable and they're illogical, and it's it's the
worst of us. It's the abs. And you want to
go online, go, you will find the worst of us.
You want to you want to find any news story
that breaks about anything, and you want to find the
most ridiculous offensive storyline possible, go to social media. You'll
find it.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Yeah, I just take Jason's word for it. Don't bother
going down the rabbit hole. It's just not good for
your life and.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Health, it really And I'm happy. I'm of course so
happy that she's okay, but it sucks. She couldn't really
enjoy the game because all of this.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
Is just's nine again, So she was not at They
were on the road. Of course, Chicago's trying to get
into the playoffs by having to play these two road
games this week. She didn't go from Canada to South
Florida or for both road games and skip school. Her
dad was adamant about that.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Well, that's good, Hey, you gotta go to school, right,
got school right, exactly, Gotta be good at school. That's
how it goes. So again, glad she's okay. But again,
you want to find the worst of humanity, go ahead,
go on social media. You will absolutely find it.

Speaker 4 (21:20):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
Threaten a nine year old for at a basketball game.
She didn't leave her seat right, No, she didn't go
stand on the baseline or anything.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
She was just screaming when they were shooting free throws,
which is.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
It's just that she was rooting for the road team,
so you could hear the screams.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Blame Canada, but you want to look, I'm not saying
this is worse off, yeah, but this is this is
kind of embarrassing. The biggest NBA headline of the day
outside of what's going on in the playing games right now.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
Was it Julius Randall's gonna miss the game.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Julius Randall's going to play in game two. That is
his that is his goal to see Julius in game two.
He intends to play in game two. Like Aaron Rodgers
intends to be a jet, Julius Randall intends to play
in game two.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
I mean tomorrow is still the possibility here.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
It could be, but game two looks like it's a
little bit more realistic for him.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
It's gonna be a very quick series.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Theal Yeah, Yeah, the Knicks are gonna win the Sweet.
It's gonna be easy. And Donovan Mitchell, look at that
fifty points in all four games. It's a Cleveland Cavaliers.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Both of these rosters have such legendary playoff performances on
their resumes. I just the experience is just overwhelming.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Hey, hey, a lot of these Knicks won that one
playoff game two years ago. They were all on the roster.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
I take a step.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
Julius Randall was there, Emmanuel Quickly was there. We had
some guys there. They have the experience of the one
playoff winner.

Speaker 4 (22:45):
Ewing was there.

Speaker 1 (22:46):
Come on, they were all there. Oakley, Sure they were
all there. Steve Novaki was there. Everybody was there.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
Ye, Cleveland home tomorrow. Most of the Eastern Conference game
ones are tomorrow, starting with the Philly home game.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
With that going on, we had a big decision that
was really not a big decision made by the NBA
today when it concerns the Dallas Mavericks and their overt
attempt to tank by sitting four of their best players
and only playing Luka Donsich a quarter in the next
to last game of the season when a playoff game

(23:21):
was when a playoff Berth was still alive for them.
They lost that game. Luca only played a quarter, none
of their stars played the final game, and they protected
their draft pick, which is what they really were after.
So here are the Mavericks who absolutely tanked in front
of the world.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
And even worse with the Donsich situation, he met he
played a quarter, started the second quarter and then actually
committed a foul to get out of the game the second.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
We need you to get out of the game. Now,
coming out of the game.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
I didn't think it could get worse. That was worse.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
It's it's an overt example of tanking. And I understand
the tanking is a big philosophy and team teams need
to do it when you can. It doesn't It doesn't
serve you to be a five hundred team or a
little bit below five in the NFL. It doesn't serve
you to go five and twelve. It serves you to
go too and fourteen, two and fifteen.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
Doesn't understand though, it doesn't serve the fans.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Right, No, no, no it doesn't. But when you do
it so overtly, something has to be done. There's almost
no choice. And the NBA today decided after they investigated
the Mavericks, they found that they were guilty for conduct
detrimental to the league, and they were fined seven hundred
and fifty thousand dollars.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
So, no draft picks taken away. In fact, the draft
pick they were trying to protect by tanking that was
not taken away.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Yeah, that's gonna that's that's gonna send them a lesson.
That's gonna teach them a lesson.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
No, it was a really harshly worded statement. Oh, that
was extentive. They undermined the NBA's integrity with those foster decisions. Yeah,
they failed our fans, they failed our league.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
Yeah. Joe Dumar's NBA executive VP. The official quote was,
the mavericks decision to restrict key player from fully participating
in an elimination game last Friday against Chicago undermined the
integrity of our sport. The Mavericks' actions failed our fans
and our league. And so here's a seven hundred and
fifty thousand dollars fine to a guy worth over five

(25:16):
billion dollars. We are showing you Mark Cuban.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Now this is a higher amount than Cuban got personally
for the tanking comments a few years.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Look, that's why this is so embarrassing, Steve, and I
feel I'm embarrassed for the NBA. I really am that
this is an This is a fastball down the middle.
Can we dock them a draft pick? Can we take
that draft pick away? Can we push the draw?

Speaker 3 (25:38):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (25:38):
You were found guilty, so guess what you're losing ten
spots of that draft pick that's now a twenty first
You know, whatever, you can do something for it. This
is laughable. It's absolutely laughable that this is where you
find and what you can do well the seven fifty
thousand dollars fives But no, No, Commissioner Adam Silver in
the NBA, he has a wide ranging latitude of powers.

(25:59):
He can do whatever he wants to. And when you
throw on top of it that this is now the
second time that he has had to discipline the Mavericks
and Mark Cuban for tanking. How do you how do
you not take a draft pick away? How do you
not do I can't say I'm surprised because he wants
to do nothing. Adam Silver wants is a completely I'm
gonna look the other way on this until people stop

(26:19):
talking about it. He has no spine, and I'm embarrassed
for him that he stands up and says, I'm the commissioner.
This is now the second time in the last five
years the Mavericks have got caught tanking. You d Mark
Cuban admit in twenty eighteen we were tanking. Now you
find them guilty of tanking again, very overtly. Again, no
one's gonna look at this and go as the evidence

(26:40):
really there? I don't know. Can I find the evident?

Speaker 4 (26:43):
Lowly?

Speaker 3 (26:43):
It was there at the press conference before the game.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
This is like the Astros trash cat. I don't know.
Can you really hear the trash cat? Yes, you can
hear the trash cant getting it in the background.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
You know that.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
People, What are you getting so worked out for?

Speaker 1 (26:56):
Why is hose L Twov pulling in his uniform? No,
he does have a bar under there.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Come on, did you see Evan Gaddis actually admitted Yeah,
I knew what pitch was coming.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
That was great, Like Evan, Come on, dude, we're trying
to get past us.

Speaker 3 (27:09):
I like your suggestion with the Dallas Mavericks and just
having that draft pick, if not taken away, just move
it down a couple of spots something, because that's directly
related to the violation. I mean, they were trying to
protect the pick.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
You are either you are either trying to stop tanking
or at least appear to do it. And this is
not going to do anything. Oh I got caught tanking. Yeah, okay,
seven to fifty grand, Yeah, that's fine when it comes
to a top ten pick, and depending where it is
in the lottery, what do I care? And I get
that you can only find someone so much money, but
when you're talking about finding an owner seven hundred and

(27:43):
fifty grand that's worth in the billions of dollars, is
that really the best you can do? No, you take
the draft pick away, you take the pick away, or
you awarded to or you awarded to the Knicks, not
that the salary cap on him. Something, Something has to
happen where it's not just well, because that's the thing.
The Knicks would have gotten that pick depending on where
it was, but it's protected being a top ten pick,
so they get to keep it. If they're protected again.

(28:05):
Next year, the Knicks get a second round pick. So
it really behooves the Mavericks to try to keep this
pick because they could have given up this year, they
could give it up next year, but in one more
year it becomes a second round pick no matter what.
So I get the strategy, But when you're doing this
so out in the open, it's easy. It's easy to say,
you know, sorry, dude, but you're gonna lose a draft.

(28:26):
But you're doing this, and who's gonna complain. Who's gonna
complain about that. Who's gonna say, oh, you're being directed. No,
this isn't easy. This is served up on a platter
for the NBA, and still it's Yeah, it was shameful.
So yeah, write that check for seven hundred and fifty grand.
Ooh you showed them. Boy, they're not gonna mess with
you anymore. Mister, mister big shot. Oh watch out New
Sheriffsontown here. I mean, I'm embarrassed for Adam Silver. I'm

(28:48):
embarrassed for the NBA that this is what they come
up with when it's a fabric of the game, thing
like tanking, and this is the best they can do.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
And the irony is they just had the CBA say
we took care of that whole load management thing, where
you know this is also involving the integrity of the league,
does it not. I mean, this is a professional sports product,
it's an entertainment product. And what they put on the
court Dallas a week ago was a joke and they

(29:16):
should be fined and something else because of it. So
they say, I think we've addressed tanking, and they didn't
address this at all with Dallas.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
Part of me wants to go on Adam Silver's Wikipedia page,
be one of those guys and get on there and
go Adam Silver is the current commissioner of the NBA,
and just insert a line that says he wants to
absolutely do nothing and look the other way during controversy.
And then at the rest of his bio, he became
a lawyer after Zarvy here and then became the commission
of the NBA. Because that's what it's laughable now, he
doesn't want to I know what's gonna happen whenever there's

(29:46):
a controversy, whatever's the least thing he can do, He's
going to do well and upset anybody. I can't fact.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
Remember, he got the reputation as being a player's commissioner
and that's turned into really a bad thing because we're
in the era of his his league being a players league,
and we've seen all the negative aspects of that, and
the commissioner needs to put his foot down at some point.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon, Steve
Steve de Segar in for Harmon tonight on a live
drop Friday. Hey, Steve, I ain't paying for that. That's
that's my live drop Friday of Steve doing a Rob
Parker impression. It's very it's like inception right there. It is.
It is.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
It's just like the old days when you would record
on actual tape, and with each generation it got worse.
The of the recording that was with the impersonation. That
was the philosophy of good to start with. Yeah, that
was a philosophy of multiplicity with Michael Keaton. Every clone
was a little bit worse and a little bit worse.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
A little bit worse. So right now, playing game it
is the Timberwolves leading Oklahoma City is going to go
to halftime. They're going to be up by at least seven.
It's fifty for forty seven, right and with six seconds
left to go, a big three for Minnesota has given
him a ten point lead with a couple of seconds

(31:09):
left to go, So the t Wolves taking charge of this.
Rudy Gobert is in the game and playing and has
no punches thrown so far in the first.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
One basket, one field goal for Rudy Gobert.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
So we're at the half and it's fifty seven forty seven.
Go Bears walking you off the court with the basketball. Look,
it's the end of the NBA Finals. I'm gonna save this.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
And here's a around teammate, Mike Conley.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
I'm keeping this same.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
They all love each other.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
So ten point lead for the t Wolves here at
the break. So with the NBA players, they're gonna start
before we do our show next time for us to
start giving our NBA Finals predictions. And I want to
say this when we start in the Western Conference, because
you have known me, Steve, I've talked about the massive
potential of the Suns with Kevin Durant. It is a

(31:55):
game changer. They have not lost since they got him.
Kevin Durant has lost a grand total of two games
since Thanksgiving weekend. This is a sound I mean, even
though he's missed some time. Yeah, he's like twenty eight
and two in his last thirty games. He has lost
two games since Thanksgiving weekend. It's absolutely insane. But I
say the same thing for kd Lebron Zion Williamson. You

(32:19):
just can't count on them. Is Kevin Durant really gonna
be healthy for an entire playoff run for the Suns?

Speaker 3 (32:24):
And Chris Paul? Is he gonna be an entire playoff run? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (32:27):
This is not a time in the NBA to say yeah,
I kind of like the old guard. It's really hard,
he say, oh, Lebron, No, you see what happens when
these teams have to play so many games a row
and you're lying on older players. It's just not there,
either injury wise or effectiveness. These guys have to sit
out all the time. I played, I played the first half.
I gotta sit out for three weeks now. I'm really

(32:48):
tired from that first half.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
So if Kawhi Leonard plays this weekend and we assume
he will. Does that mean he only plays the first
half of Game two because he's anticipating playing at home
in Game three. Is it's gonna work.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Yeah, He'll play the first then he'll sit out and
if they need it at the very end of the game,
he'll come back in. If not, they'll sit him for
the rest. So it's hard. As much as I love
the Suns and I thought, really their potential, everything clicks
with them, but just the age factor and the fact
that before the season started I picked the Grizzlies. I said,
the Grizzlies are going to the NBA Finals. John Moran's

(33:20):
your MVP. He kind of had a shot and then
really torpedoed his own chances and he's lucky to be
in the league at this point. But the Grizzlies have
been playing fantastic. They have a big four that is outstanding.
John Morant's gonna take over games all by himself. He
one of the best defensive players in the league in
Jaron Jackson, Desmond Bain, Dylan Brooks, the big agitator. They

(33:41):
have everything you need. You forget how far they went
last year. Nearly we're able to move on without John Morant.
So the fact that I picked them early and they're
playing well at the end of the regular season, that
you know, Moran had the time off and now he's back, and.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
This is the best hometal right.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
Yeah, they they are, and they're gonna have home court
almost all the way through. Yeah. I'm sticking with the
Grizzlies in the Western Conference. I said beginning of the year.
Nothing has happened to make me go away from them
except for the except for the Kevin Durant to the Suns.
But I can't count. They're gonna be healthy all the
way through. Eventually they're gonna come up empty. I love
the young legs of the Grizzly. I think they're gonna
run the Lakers out of the playoffs. It's very tough

(34:19):
to try to find out the Lakers and it's a
mismatch here, and Anthony Divisa is yeah, okay, there's a
reason why the Lakers are a couple of games over
five run even with the changes they made. This is
gonna be a series where it's boy, the young legs
of the Grizzlies run the Lakers out of town.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Yeah, if Lebron was tired at the end of that
recent game. By the way, Cody Bellinger just doubled off
Noah Cindergards. Wow again, Dodger stated.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
The revenge of twenty seventeen cinder Gart versus Bellinger. Look
at this.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
One thing about the Phoenix Suns, though, is that they
do get a Clippers team that won't have Paul George
apparently for the first round. I mean, it's reading between
the lines, and there's not much reading that's needed in
that regard these days. He's not gonna be showing up
in the next week plus. And so Phoenix what normally
would be a much tougher first round, right if you

(35:08):
have Kawhi playing not just healthy, but playing as well
as he has been and Paul George, but that's not
gonna happen. So Phoenix has for what might be one
of its tougher matchups in any round, kind of gets
a break.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
Yeah. I never thought they would go out in the
first round. It's as the playoffs go on and things
get deeper, because we've seen it happen to Chris Paul
many times. Hey, there's too many games now and he's
just exhausted and he can't do it like he used to.
So yeah, this round, I was feeling okay, but then
you get deeper, potentially the second round against the Nuggets. Yeah,
good luck. So sticking with my Grizzlies had him before

(35:42):
the season. That's right, look up, there's evidence. It's all
over Twitter. I told you about the Grizzlies early because
you know I'm ahead of the curve. Coming up next,
got another big idea for the NBA. This is Fox
