Speaker 3 (00:34):
Well Dressed Hobo.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
It is a live drop Friday as we broadcast live

com will help you get there an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand
recommended installers ti rack dot com. The way tire buying
should be, well, just about everything in the books, accept
(00:57):
except for a phenomenal hockey game going on right now.
The Oilers and the Kings going to overtime tied had
two apiece positive vibes only. I'll tell you everybody's favorite
MVP Canada con McDavid both goals tonight. Frank him for
the oilers, I mean, the guys. The guy's gonna win
mv guys sucks. There shouldn't even be a vote the
(01:19):
way this season. Connor McDavid's at why even have a vote?
You shouldn't even have to vote. It's just okay, we
know he's gonna win. And what happened to positive vibes
only Smith.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
I'm just saying, well, he may be the MVP of
the regular season, but he couldn't will them to a
victory and regulation. Now the Kings look to take this game.
That's what I'm talking about. Come on, positivity. Will Ferrell
has a checkerboard face for crying out. He is.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
He is Will Ferrell is at the game and his
and his face is done up in King's colors, in
black and white checkerboard. He almost looks like he could
be on like a remake of Alice in Wonderland.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
That's kind of what one of those happening. Maybe he
was actually like next door shooting that movie, kids movie
and he just came to the game after, Hey, we'll
put the camera on you. You were in black and
white face pink, Yeah, sure, I'll go that. Let's go
paint the face. He decided to paint the face the
face him and him and Putty would have a really
difficult time, really difficult time the devil, very very difficult time.
(02:16):
Where the devils where the devil?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Then they gave a heart attack to that poor clergyman.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Oh well, okay, okay, but that was it was on TV.
It's okay.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
It's a tough one though, trying to Will Ferrell actually
getting ready to start a golf movie evidently so uh,
you know, in the vein of Talladega Nights. So let's
go now, speaking of celebrities and sports, all right, now,
this is a big weekend, right.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
We have the NBA playoffs going on. You know how
insane I am for the Knicks. It's gonna be the
best things are in a while. The Mets are having
a knockwood a phenomenal West Coast road trip here so far,
they sweep the Aids. They take two out of three
from the Dodgers. They've taken the first two from the Giants.
Now sure that suspended ten games? Well you're giving you again,
You're given you got Joey Lukezy, Come on, the guy
(03:02):
missed the whole season showed up tonight with seven innings
pitch and nine strikeouts.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
We saw a guy nearly throw a perfect game only
to get crushed by his catch.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Oh poor Drew Smiley. Man, Wow, that was terrible. You know,
it's probably gonna be a hit anyway, but just the
fact that he he collided with his catcher chance. Yeah, no, Gomes,
I mean, it was going to be a see But
the whole thing of play like that, right, if you've
seen that play today. Just to get into this for
a second, Drew Smiley, the Cubs, the Dodgers were getting
drilled very early today, and he had a chance to
(03:33):
pitch a perfect game. Seven and two thirds innings and
a little dribbler a swinging bunt, which is really not accurate.
You hear people say swing. It's not like you were
trying to bunt. It's just one of those things where
you kind of topped the ball. It gets to it
gets to the right side of the pitcher's mound, and
Smiley goes to get it. Gomes is going to get
realizes I'm not going to get it in time to throw,
(03:56):
tries to back off, but goes over Smiley's back, knocks
Smiley to the ground. And it's a base hit. There's
nothing you can do about it. It breaks up the perfect game.
And I don't know if anybody would have gotten to
it and would have had the chance. But here's what
I would have This is this is why I feel
bad about that play, because if I was the pitcher
or the catcher, right, if I was a pitcher catcher,
(04:17):
at this point, this game is out of is out
of hand, right, you know, you don't have to worry
about anything, you know, come on, you're pitching a perfect game.
The game has been over for quite a while. I
mean in the in the you know, it was thirteen
nothing quite a long time, so you knew you were
going to win this game.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
What I was mad.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
About was that if this had happened, if he was
able to at least get to it, because the score
is thirteen nothing, he could have just got it. You know,
you're not going to get him out. And I throw
the ball into like the thirtieth.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Row Sean Dunstan that thing, and maybe.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
At least you get an error and you keep the
no hitter going. Because if you throw it that wild,
if you throw it that far, if you come up
and throw it it goes maybe the official score is
a home game, maybe you get a little bit of
that benefit of the data. Could have been a close play,
but I know we're not going to get him. I
lose the perfect game, but at least I still have
the no hitter. I'd have thrown that thing into like
the third the thirtieth row of the stands going.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
I don't know what happened.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
That's got to be an error, right, gotta be an error.
That's what I see, because a play like that I
would always like to see happen, to see if a
pitcher would do it or a player would do it
to preserve a no hitter or a perfect game.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yeah. I kind of like the where you're going with that.
I could get down with that. But when it's all said, none,
it's if it's going to get broken up, let's do
so in spectacular fashion. And that's what we have here.
It wasn't a blue pit just out of the reach
of the shortstop or a shot to the gap. No, no, no.
(05:44):
This was something that we'll see time and time again.
Why because it's also Drew Smiley, which meant everybody was
throwing up their images of guys Smiley. The legend from
sesame streets. So we got that going for you. There
there was no George Smiley, Tinker Taylor, soldier spy going
to that and that's that's pretty good. No, okay, no,
(06:04):
I was in the car as they went to the
ninth inning. Long long after my viewing, I decided to
go right. Errands was like, we'll go to the knife,
needing just thirteen to tie. This is Dodger baseball in
AM five seventy LA sports is so good.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
You know what was more surprising? What's that buddy that
Dave Roberts than in pool Smiley for pitching the perfect game.
It's a fair point, and there's Dave Roberts visiting the
opposing picture. What is happening? Come on it, Lets people
remember age Charlie our HER's Dave Roberts going to visit
a different picture. I've never seen that before. It's gonna
visit the picture for the other team. We'll see if
(06:45):
you can pull him out of the game. You know,
the last time I saw something like this happened. We
gotta go back to nineteen sixties and now I'm getting
into Rodger Warl. I hate Jason Smith hy heye Jason
sith dand stand up but the.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Truth serum is out on a Friday night. I hate
that guy. You know.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
The original point here that I wanted to get into.
We talked about celebrities. You know, Will Ferrell at the game.
He's got his face painted. Is that in about twelve
hours from now? And I feel okay talking about this.
It's not spoiled. This is sports now, I get it.
In about twelve hours from now, Wrexham can advance and
(07:22):
get promoted with a win. Oh yeah, they have had
an unbelievable season. It's been them in Notts County, back
and forth for promotion and Wrexham has two games left.
If they win either of these games they earn promotion.
They go up another ladder. And Ryan Reynolds Rob mclaney show,
which is, honestly it was probably the best show of
(07:43):
twenty twenty two. Well, I don't know that there is
a better And you know me how much I love
The Bear, which was so incredibly good and it didn't
involve anybody from the Bears. It was just the Bear,
which is why it worked. Thank you Chef, Thank you Chef.
Or just Bear, the just the Bear, the Bear and
or best show. But Welcome to Wrexham was just so good.
(08:04):
In case you don't know, I mean, obviously Rob McLane, Yeah,
but that was a movie. But that was a movie
you were talking about the best new shows of twenty
twenty two. Rob mclaney and Ryan Reynolds buy a soccer team,
a lower level soccer team in Wales and they've been
in the one of the the third oldest team in
the history of the world soccer team, and they've been
bad for so long. They nearly got promoted last year
(08:25):
after they bought the team made changes. It's exciting and
here they are now after an unreal season where they've
lost like three games. If they win tomorrow they earn
promotion up to the next rung of soccer. And I mean,
it's gonna be weird watching the next season knowing how
it's going to end, but I can't help myself. It's
I mean, I really the show was so good. It's
(08:48):
it was one of the few shows where I'll tell
you this, like the Bear, one of the few shows
where I've excited to watch it and I'm not gonna
get on my iPad while I'm watching it, right, because
that's kind of how how TV is as evolved the
last few years is that you have shows that you
like and you watch, but at the same time you're
you're watching TV, you're on your iPad a lot, and
you know you can still watch good shows and be
(09:09):
on your iPad or check your phone, be on your
phone and play a game while you're watching and all right,
but this is one of those few shows I'm like,
no iPad down, phone down, because it's so incredibly interesting.
Whether you like sports or not, this is an unbelievable show.
Every episode I wanted more, and midway through the season,
I'm like, I kind of want more Rob mcellaney and
Ryan Reynolds, and then we got them and it was incredible.
(09:33):
I mean, the personalities they were able to capitalize on.
This is a groundbreaking show that you took two Hollywood
stars and said, Okay, we're gonna make this. We're gonna
make this show, and now we need more from you
surrounding this, and it was It's everything. It's dramatic, it's funny,
it's it's entertaining. It tears at your heart string, tells
you your heart strings, and you're full of action and
(09:53):
you get you feel intense and anxiety when they're playing
a game, and I can't get over it. I watched
the Games this year and I feel like when I
see Phil Parkinson the coach on TV, I go, it's
like seeing the Avengers. It's Phil Parkinson, and it's Paul
Mullen and Ali Palmer and Jordan Davison. Oh my god,
look at all these guys. It's like ant Man and
the Wasp and Captain America and Iron Man and I'm
(10:16):
singing the super Paul Mullen chant. I mean, I can't
get over how good this show was. And and again tomorrow. Yeah,
I'm gonna be watching that. I can't wait to get
on and watch that tomorrow ten thirty Pacific time, one
thirty East Coast time.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Yeah. I got the gift of my my daughter's soccer
game for tomorrow has been the time has been moved
three times and finally it's settling in the afternoon, or
at least that's the last update I got.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
So people can watch the Mexican metson the Giants. That's
why I want by people watching mexicin.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
You nobody's watching it. They want me to watch Wrexham,
I guess, and then I'm gonna go watch the Battle
of I five between The Wave and Angels City on
Sunday night. I mean, we got soccer all over the place,
but Wrexham one of those shows. I think you're right,
you know, put everything aside because you got enough of
the human element and drama. Uh. Now that the baby
(11:04):
has arrived, maybe more Blake Lively next season.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Maybe a little bit yet, Maybe a little.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Bit, especially now that she's going out on the town
as part of the Girls Squad with Taylor Swift. We
could get a little that.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
No, no, they reference Blake the show every once in
a while, she's in the show once in a while.
It no, no yet, No. Ryan Reynolds makes fun of
the different rooms and furniture that she has in the
in the house and how.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
She makes fun of him. Yeah, uh yeah, No, plenty
plenty of that going on, and she she certainly has
had a couple of press opportunities to take shots of
how crazy he is over this squad and and how
it went from really you want to do that too?
Now he's obsessed with it. Between that and the the
ever everlasting battle with Hugh Jackman over practical jokes in Deadpool, three.
(11:55):
Uh so you got all that rolling on, but it's
it's it's fun theater, there's no question, and you get
to watch it out in real time. And I don't
know that I go Avengers with Super Mullin, but yeah, let's.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Go Super Paul Mullen. I just don't think so for everything.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
That's the other thing. You got a lot from the
low levels all the way through the Premier League. There's
a song for everything.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
I think different players we should take that here and
in sports here in the United States, people should have
song like pin Alonzo should have a song, you know
called my My Bat's cork lebron.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Jo whoa whoa, whoa, whoa whoa.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
That is pure polar Bear power.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Man.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
You watch what you say about pied Alonzo. I don't
know if Max schureser Okay, now that's a different story,
that's what.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
And hey, it's not a bridge too far. Say hey
the Mets at all costs from Steve cohen.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
On down Max Sure's a song is something by Blood,
Sweat and Tears, twittering out about a Fresco Mike and
swolling down the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Carmon Coming up next. Do we have new favorites
in Vegas for the NBA title after what we've seen
so far? Who's a new favorite to go number one
(13:07):
overall in the NFL draft? Keep it right here on
a live drop Friday that's next to the Tirack dot
Com studios, Jason and Mike Fox. You do not besmirch
the name of Pete Alonzo. Not not in this house,
Not in this house, not a drop. I hate that song,
tell Allen go.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Carbon and my least favorite song in the
world Hay Friday right.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Now five songs of all time? Thank you God?
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Is do You can't lie to people on a Friday night,
then it only speaks truth. On this show, we're gonna
get set. Welcome in Todd Furman, Vegas Insider coming up
in a second, but right now, heavy drama going on
at the Crypt. It looks like the Kings have just
scored to win in overtime over Edmonton. Trevor Moore unassisted
on a power play However, this goal is being looked
(14:06):
at that potentially the whistle should have been blown for
a high stick when the puck came up in the
corner right before the game winning goal. They've been showing
the replay for a few minutes and it's really hard
to see if the pucks touched the high stick, and
they have been looking at this for a good couple
of minutes. Now. This has been a really big deal
(14:26):
and this is a very long review as we're waiting
to see if the Kings go up to one over
the Oilers or if this game will continue. Joining us
now on the hot line. He's all over this play
right now. Actually, you can follow him on Twitter at
Todd Furman, former ORODS maker at Caesars Now check him
out bet the Board podcast host. He's on CBS as well. Todd,
(14:46):
what's happening, buddy? Is this a goal or not? Hey?
Speaker 4 (14:49):
You know what, it's interesting. I think the officials right
now looking to try and get a conclusive view that
either Gavel already made contact with a high stick one
way or another. Obviously, if he did, we'll continue playing
maybe into the wee hours. If not, to your point, Smith,
the Kings take a two to one lead in a series,
and this one has been filled with dramas. Every game
has been tied at least at some point in the
third period through the first three games.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
You know, I'm watching the replay and I keep trying
to see if the rotation of the puck changes, because
that's what that's what I look at. And I don't
see the rotation of the puck change. I don't see
the puck move at all to change its trajectory. But
being a black puck up against the stands sometimes you
just kind of lose sight of it because the stands
are dark and the puck is the puck is dark,
(15:31):
and it's okay, only so much you can do. I
find it being really hard. They can actually overturn this,
because they did allow the goal to begin with.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
I would kind of echo those same sentiments. But the
fact that they're looking at it as long as they
are from Toronto, I think they want to be certain.
If this was a regular season game, look, everybody who
had been out of the arena already, we'd have awarded
the consolation point and we had have moved out with
our lives. But we know how these series, more so
in the NHL than any other best of seven sport.
Things can change in a moment's notice, and everything seemed
(15:59):
to matter and it appears the goal is going to stand,
so the Kings will go on to win three to
two and take a two to one lead in the series.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Kings fans get to celebrate twice. You celebrate the goal,
you have to wait and be nervous. You can celebrate
a game.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
I kind of like that.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
The call is I was gonna say, you get to
double dip in some capacity there. So credit to the
Kings who fought tooth and nail, came in as heavy
underdogs in this series and are giving the Oilers all
they can handle and then them so far.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Now about a play like this, and we've certainly seen
our share of odd officiating the last few days. Todd
as we'll get into what kind of handle do we
get on NHL games, it's.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Really nothing substantial. The deeper you get into it, and
obviously out here in the desert we'll get a disproportion
in them on and money that'll change hands on games
evolving the Golden Knights. But typically when you're looking at
straight bets and that sort of thing, people look to
try and parlay big favorites. They'll think they can fatten
them up with some of the NBA bets they're making,
But the NHL betting handle, for the most part, pales
in comparison for what you'll see most nights in the NBA.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Obviously, so all the money is now going to the
Knicks after their win tonight, right, I mean you must
be getting huge action on the Knicks now.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
I mean you continue to lock down teams in the
Martyr version of the NBA and hold him to seventy
nine points, the sky becomes the limit. In Smith, you
and Arnie can lead the parade right down Fifth Avenue
in the Nicks bring the championship back to Madison Square Garden.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
It's exciting, man. I mean, look, for everybody who doubted,
I told you all year long. Jalen Brunson's the difference.
Just watch just trust me and look at him so far,
look at the next time.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
It's so exciting. Yeah, but it's not happening in a vacuum. Todd,
I extrapolate that talking injuries, we've got mb'd now with
the knee. I tried to posit the theory that it's
a Michael Jordan to baseball kind of thing. We should
have suspended him. How's that knee feeling? Yeah, take a
day off. There's your hot take for the day. But
that and Giannis's back seemingly open up at least a
(17:48):
little bit of chaos in the East.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
You know, it's pretty wild.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
It's pretty wild.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
We look at the NBA and we talk about load
management keeping these guys healthy, and I don't remember in
the past, and maybe it's recency biased more than anything else.
This many superstars missing games in the playoffs. Maybe they're
not ready to actually go out there and play in
these high intensity environments when they play sixty out of
eighty two games every year. Whether it's Kawhi Leonard, whether
it's Joel Embiid, whether it's the honest I mean, what's
(18:13):
the next step for the NBA. We're going to give
these teams six days off between games instead of having
them play once every four You get to a point, honestly,
whereas a sports fan, when is enough enough? And I
think we're getting there for the NBA, and I just
don't quite understand it, honestly.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
All Right, So here's the thing, Todd is that you know,
going back the last couple of years, you can almost
expect these injuries, like star players are getting hurt all
the time. Now it's gone from being hey, here's a
big headline that Joel Embiid is out, to Oh, hey,
Embiid is out, Kawhi is out all. I mean, that
must make it impossible to try to break down knowing
that these star injuries are at this point, they're inevitable
(18:48):
throughout the NBA season in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
It's definitely more challenging if you're handicapping a sport on
a night in, night out basis you're looking to try
and better into the futures market. Yet the craziest thing
about it is we still see these lineups that are
basically studs and duds. I mean, the Phoenix Suns will
be the greatest illustration from a starting five standpoint. There's
probably not a team in on the West that can
hold a torch to them, but when you look at
their second grouping, there's nothing close. And I think the
(19:11):
league obviously wants the stars to decide the games. Most
sports do, but the NBA, more than anything else, whether
we're talking baseball, the NHL, you name it, de emphasizes
how some of those role players can make a difference.
Of course they can once or twice in a series,
but you know, once a star goes down, it doesn't
feel like there's a secondary pitch for any of these
team to try and win games. And I think it's
(19:31):
why the Clippers will find themselves in the brink of
elimination after Game.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Four with all of these injuries. How much movement have
we seen in terms of futures and live action on
these series. Not a ton.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
I mean when you look at the fact that none
of the legitimate front runners should feel threatened in any
capacity just yet. I mean Giannis, if he was out
for an extended period of time, it's obviously a different
difference maker in the Eastern Conference. But teams are more
or less going through the motions right now, trying to
get themselves ready to play at a higher level as
we get deeper into the postseason. But I don't think
anybody's perception should have changed on how the West or
(20:07):
the East will be run. If anything, you know, credit
the Denver Nuggets for going out there and taking business,
taking care of business and looking to make quick work
at the Minnesota Timberwls rather than play a series that'll
go five, six or seven games.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Vegas inside of Todd Ferban. Our guest here the Jason
Smithson with Mike Carmen live from Thetirack dot Com studios.
All right, let's get to the NFL Draft. We're heading
into the week. First we thought it was CJ. Stroud
going number one overall. Now it seems like it's going
to be Bryce Young.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
What are you hearing?
Speaker 1 (20:31):
What's it going to look like? What's the first name
called on Thursday?
Speaker 4 (20:34):
It'll be Bryce Young barring some unforeseen, you know, change
in circumstance or the Carolina Panthers playing the best game
of liars poker. Knowing the mankind. I mean, this number
has taken off. They did a great job convincing people
that they were interested in a variety of other quarterbacks.
I think the draft really starts to pick two, where
no one knows who the Houston Texans are going to take,
if it's CJ. Stroud, if it's Will Levis, or will
(20:56):
they go Will Anderson. So that's where things start to
get real interesting. And this is kind of the quagmire
teams find themselves in when you're talking about an NFL
draft class where maybe twelve to fourteen players max have
legitimate first round grade. You could see some surprises deeper
into the first round, as teams may reach on players
if they're significantly higher than you know, where some of
these mock draft experts have them.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
Going todd What kind of odds can I get that
the Jets will screw up the Aaron Rodgers acquisition.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
I mean, at this point, you know, you wonder what
they're waiting for, and they keep saying if it's not
done by the draft, the likelihood of it, you know,
actually happening continues to decline. So it's bizarre on a
variety of fronts. But I think at this point, I mean,
Aaron Rodgers is overstate, is welcome in Green Bay. The
Jets are willing to do just about anything, and there's
no doubt in my mind that Green Bay will do
everything they can to bring in skill position players to
(21:43):
try and help George the transition to Jordan Love look
significantly easier.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
Has anything changed on the odds of Rogers to the Jets?
In the last couple of days or a week or so.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
All the books offshore that we're offering that problem market
have actually pulled it off the board. So once the
Jets became clear tough front runner, I mean, those numbers
can off the board. They're not going to reopen them
anytime soon unless there's reason to believe that there's another
player that will enter the market for the services of
air twelfth.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Look at that, boys all, it's going to be a certainty.
It's off the board now.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
So how big is the prop market on the draft
at this point in terms of numbers and bet and
what kind of action we see on it? You know,
how many quarterbacks, wide receivers, all those other fun little
pro mutations.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
There are some opportunities out there. I mean, when you
look at the total quarterbacks drafted in the first round,
that over under sits at four and a half. If
you're looking at wide receivers drafted in round one, I
think the number would surprise some people. But you're seeing
three and a half kind of the prevailing price with
slight juice to the over as. It doesn't appear to
be any truly game breaking talents. You know, if you
like Za Flowers or Jackson Smith and jig but Quintin Johnson,
(22:44):
I mean, all those guys will be nice pieces if
they find themselves in the right situation, but I don't
think it's as deep at the wide receiver position as
we've seen in the past, where these guys will slot
in and be true number ones right out of the gate.
You can find some head to head props as well
for individual players that are out there, but for the
most apartment books offer this kind of as a luxury
and an amenity above something that they really believe they
(23:05):
can make money on because the professional better out there
that has access to better information and sources. Obviously, it
is a true information game more so than in a
game of chance.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Now, tod, I know you've only had a few hours
to digest this, but I'd have to think this is
going to affect college football games and betting on college
football games in a large way. We find out today
for the first time since nineteen sixty eight, clocks are
no longer going to stop on first down in NCAA games. Now,
that's going to cut the time of games down from
you know, four and a half to five and six hours.
(23:35):
What's that going to mean for betting for over unders
point totals? Well, what's that going to mean for things?
Speaker 4 (23:40):
It could make it harder for teams to cover some
of the bigger numbers that are out there, if you're
talking about fewer plays and fewer possessions. It places a
premium on the elite teams covering as four and five
touchdown favorites that are pretty common occurrences throughout the course
of the fall. But the bigger impact will come on
over unders. And you know, I'm very curious to see
if the market over adjusts or if it underadjusts. Anytime
(24:00):
you introduce this kind of rule change into the betting market,
those that have more sophisticated betting models and that are
able to simulate exactly what will be gained or in
this case lost, are typically going to have an edge
over the house. So quite frankly, I'm looking forward to it.
I think it'll give us some opportunity in early weeks
whether to bet games significantly over the total as books
adjust too much, or to take full advantage knowing that
(24:21):
these games will grind into a halt. And I think
when you're talking about Army Navy taking place in early December,
now we may see that game played in ninety two
minutes and it'll be the first team to seven points
that will win that football.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Game last one for me, Todd talking about all of
the activity the NFL today, You've got some suspensions handed
down in Detroit, a couple of guys losing their job,
couple of people in the organization losing their job. How
big a deal is this, you know, in terms of
not just the optics, but you know, when we look
(24:51):
at what Las Vegas does and how the NHL adjudicates
this stuff.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
Yeah, I mean, it won't change anything as far as
the books are con by any stretch of the imagination.
I mean, I just think it's a failure from the
organizations in the league to try and impart these policies
on players. Look, I know it's a secondary offense if
NFL players are betting on some of the other sports
out there, whether it's the team facility or elsewhere, but
there's absolutely zero excuse for NFL players to be betting
on NFL games. And quite frankly, you know, I know
(25:19):
a lot of people out there think it's harsh that
you're suspended for a full year or some of these
other players get six games. If it's me that's in
charge of the league, I don't want my players betting
on any single sporting event in any capacity, because we
know what happens. Players start with small stakes, they bet
a little bit bigger, they end up getting themselves into trouble,
They cost themselves more money, And once you start to
open yourself up to a loan or liability that's out there,
(25:42):
you begin to associate with people that are somewhat undesirable.
And I just don't think from an optic standpoint, there
needs to be any place for it. So I'm amazed, honestly, guys,
for those folks in social media that cover the NFL
that want to defend players saying well, you can't take
money from sportsbook operators and tell players they can't bet,
it is the most ridiculous, ill found it thought process,
and it actually hurts my head to think people could
(26:02):
be so irrational when they look at it. God forbid.
We tell some of these players that are making seven
figure contracts that their employer can dictate what they can
do on and off the field.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
He's on Twitter at Todd Furman, That is at Todd Furman.
Check him out on CBS the Bet the Board podcast Todd.
As always, Buddy, appreciate your time and we'll talk to
you as the next title. Odds continue to get lower
and lower until it's even money.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Hey, always a pleasure, Smith, And I know you're counting
to days until we can pencil in the Lakers Knicks
dream final for every executive out there to see a
coast to coast and two of the biggest brands in
the sport playing for the Larry O'Brian trope.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Oh from your libs, Tod from your libs. Very nice.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
You know what he just said there, he said the
Lakers are back.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
You know, it's a great point Todd makes about gambling
and gambling overall, but the whole point about gambling on football.
I mean, this is just stupid. If you get caught
gambling on football. You know, the one sign that's in
every locker room is about gambling on football, right above
the Ted Lasso believes sign or play like a champ.
Don't gamble on football. You would think that Calvin Ridley's
(27:04):
suspension would have taken care of that. You would think
Calvin Ridley gets caught, he gets a year's suspension. Okay, Hey,
can't do this right, can't do this everything else. Just
be careful when you gamble. Don't gamble on site. This
is Jamison Williams. You just got caught gambling. Just got
caught gambling on the Lion's practice facility site in Allen Park.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Know what you're doing.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Just be smart. This is gambling. The end of the NFL
takes this really bleeping seriously. Calvin Ridley should have been
the last one. The fact that it's not tells me
the NFL they really have an issue they got to
take care of, because I can't believe this came up
after Calvin Riddy. He thought, Okay, everybody's gonna be done.
But we talked to Jason Cole early in the show.
He says he thinks as many as thirty to forty
(27:44):
percent of NFL players are gambling. To an extent. A
lot of it's benign, but a lot of them are gambling.
And this is the worst nightmare for the NFL. They'd
rather deal with tanking and all kinds of controversy of
that and people holding out and salary cap visia. They
do not want to deal with gambling, and here they
are having to deal with it again. I'm stunned that
Calvin Ridley wasn't the end of this.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Yeah, I'm not shocked. There's always going to be a
few more and then especially you got some fringe players,
you know where you know, you're towards the end and
you're thinking, now, what's the big deal, I'm not gonna
get caught whatever. Here you did it on the company property,
on the team, you know property. When you're looking at
Jamison Williams, and there were quotes from from March that
(28:27):
I saw, you know, kind of circling around in terms
of his maturity and decision making. So I'm wondering if
this hasn't already been sitting in the hopper for some
six to eight weeks before this became public. But when
you get down to it, it's as Todd alluded to
the line of thought, and we talked about it a
little bit earlier in the show, but to reiterate for
(28:50):
those that are new and in, it's the idea of, hey,
you take all this money from gambling. You shouldn't you know,
this shouldn't be a sprite like no, the rules of engagement.
There's a lot of rules that guys comply with to
be a member of the National Football League. He'll protect
the shield motto that we've been hearing for all of
(29:10):
these years, and as you go through your CBA. There's
things you agree to, there's things you fight for. We
were laughing about it a little bit with Rick Buker
about the NBA and practices. Well, that's always the big
NFL win, heh. Fewer practices as opposed to the lifetime
benefits and everything that you would fight for. In this case,
(29:31):
you get half of the revenue. So what's your players association? Yeah,
bring them all in and what does that mean? Hey,
here are some rules associated with this. You adults, don't
do this. It's going to cost you your livelihood. It
seems pretty easy and self evident. Again the signage, staple
it to their heads, have someone tattoo it on their head,
(29:52):
whatever it's going to take to get it through. Because
this is just silliness. He shouldn't be getting caught and
doing this. Gotta be smarter.
Speaker 3 (30:01):

Get a big thought on tonight in the NBA coming
up in a second, But first, next suck we have
the play of the night stop tight Shirt.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Was that on the air? Really?
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Of course it was Hirk. You didn't know who did
the next play tonight? Who do they play tonight? Somebody worse?
Speaker 2 (30:49):
This is true.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
Alardy down behind the.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Ass Larity centers.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
In tight Store, Trevor Moore quit it and.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
Overtime power play goal by Trevor Moore and overtime at
three twenty four. For the second time in three games
in the series, the Kings have won a game and
overtime where it Edmonton.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
I'll goal.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
iHeartRadio on the call for that, Oh, there was a
big controversy. The puck looked like it might have been
touched with a high stick preceding the goal. They went
and checked it out. You could not tell. It didn't
look to me like the puck change direction at.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
All or move. I just thought it whipped and it was.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Since it was called a goal, really hard to overturn,
so goal counts. Kings win. They're up two games to one.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
I did like that on the television call. When they
tried to go to the rules hand list, there was
like seven to ten seconds of silence. I can't know
what he wanted to say, because to me it looked
like it just stopped and then just dropped down to
the ice. But in the end there's the call on
the field was confirmed.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
They should have just gone to Will Ferrell. He was
in the game dressed up and he had he his
faces painted black and white. We go to Will Ferrell
to find if this as a goal.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Go go all.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
He runs on the ice running up.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Go We would have been funny as if it would
have happened right in front of him. And it happened
on the black part of the checkerboard thing he had
going on his face, then you truly wouldn't have been
able to tell we're going streaking.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Will Ferrell definitely very mad Hatter esque when he was
at the game tonight. But big thought from the NBA
playoffs to night. Look, the Nuggets win over Minnesota, that
series is three zip and it's over. Boston gets back
in it or Atlanta gets back in it against Boston
by winning Game three. The Knicks just thump the Cleveland
Cavaliers ninety nine seventy nine, the Cavaliers becoming the first
(33:15):
team this year in the NBA to not score eighty
points in a game. That's how much insane, that's how
much offense that said, the NBA has had this year.
I mean, I didn't think it was true. I think
there's no way, here's no way.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
There's a bunch of day Hey.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
There's no there is nobody under eighty really, no nobody
under eighty points until tonight. And I'm telling you this,
I've told you this all along. The Knicks are good,
They're deep, they're dangerous. They have a leader in Jalen Brunson.
My only concern for the Knicks is can they handle success?
Can they handle now up to one? Can they be
(33:53):
take care of business? Or is this where it falls
apart because they get emotional, they say things they shouldn't.
They get a little bit flat, the little bit happy.
That's the big thing, because they couldn't do it two
years ago. Can they handle success, that's a big thing.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
I just enjoyed all the guys in the street going
are you mad you didn't come to New York now?
Speaker 1 (34:09):
KD twittering out about a Fresco Mike gets swollen dome.
