(00:28):
Greetings and welcome inside hap me NFL Draft Night JA
show with my best friend Mike Harmon, Well dressed hobo
live from the ti iraq dot com studios, where we
saw a lot of craziness. We saw a lot of
guys falling. Great draft show, Rob Stone, LeVar Arrington, Steve Kahim,

(00:50):
our own Jay Glazer taking you through the last four
hours here and thirty one not thirty two picks before
we get ready for round two. There's a lot of
great stuff to break down with Round one. Tons of stuff,
tons of drama obviously the Mets one tonight, tons of
stuff to break down with the drama Aaron Rodgers practice
with the Jets. But really right now it is about

(01:12):
who is still left on the board at this point
where the entire football world is wondering, Wait a minute.
I was promised Will Levis was going second overall.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I remember after his Reddit thing, and I was tomers
that he was going number one.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
He got down to four to one. No to self,
don't believe Reddit. Let me cross that off. Right there,
Will Levis, quarterback out of Kentucky, who was initially going
to be one of the top four five picks overall
in the draft, maybe as high as the second quarterback
taken overall, still on the board. As we get into
round two of the NFL Draft, ESPN had the stat

(01:50):
on there of their broadcast and they showed him in
the green room at round pick twenty nine, looking like
he's got that thousand yards stare of I can't believe
I'm still standing here. His girlfriend's on on her phone going, hey,
look at this, Hey, look at this. Hey. He's like,
I'm just still in the green room. I can't believe it.
There was a point one note point a point one

(02:11):
percent chance he would still be on the board at
that pick, which I believe is at the time thirty
and now it's going to be thirty two, and he
is still there waiting to go in the draft and
that that is a stunning development and a stunning fall
for a guy that we didn't hear about fault. Usually,
when when guys fall, you know it, you know, going, okay,
well if this guy gets past this team, no one's

(02:33):
gonna take him, right, we know that, okay. But there
was no talk about There was talk about CJ. Stroud falling.
There was talking about Anthony Richardson, well is he going
to go as high? Maybe he goes around number ten.
There was no talk of Will Levis at all fall.
It was look at this guy's the next Josh Allen,
the big Army could go number two, number and suddenly
now here he is still on the board as we
get into the second round. Something doesn't add up.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Well, there's rumors that this toe injury that he had
missed some time to it, that suddenly that became a
major area of concern that he might require surgery. So
I've seen that floating around obviously all the Boa Callahan runs,
but watching it in terms of mock drafts a little
bit over the last couple of weeks, because what else
do you do during mock draft season? But see what

(03:13):
the next iteration is, you know, seven point Zho fourteen
point zero, fourteen point one, and he was a guy
that started to become that consensus top five. And then
a little bit of drifting in a couple of things,
and that one I could participated in. I was telling
you about the Jacksonville beat Riders come through. He didn't
go until the middle of the round.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
There didn't fall the way out, but certainly not the
top five that I think a lot of people anticipated
that once the first couple because this was a draft
of runs.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Because that's the other part of it. This played out
like your normal fantasy draft does, where people are drinking
and are half paying attention. It's like, oh, no, other
wide receiver went as you get one of those Seattle
just took a wide receiver quick. Everybody else wait wait, wait, wait, Well,
because you had a quarterbacks, had the trades and everything
else going on, and away you go.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
But whether that toe injury is the thing that did
it or you just had you know, Atlanta right, that
was another destination where people thought. We talked about it
with JA No, you really don't know. I really don't
know it really do So I was one of the
guys that I got to the right squad so I'm
proud of myself there. But for Will Levis, now, does
does he end up getting to a better team because

(04:25):
of it a better situation? Uh? But certainly one of
those uncomfortable watches over the course of the night. Now
here's the good news for Will Levis, right, who is
now all anybody is talking about because he's still out there.
The first four picks for the first three picks of
the second round go like this. The Steelers pick, then
it's the Cardinals, then it's the Lions. If I was

(04:47):
any of those three teams, I would take Will Levis.
This is a guy who had a really high draft
grade on them in the first round. These are all
teams that could use him to be their future. And
if his toe injury is bother, if something happens, he
can still sit because you can still if you're Pittsburgh
in theory, say well, Kenny Pickett, we want to give

(05:07):
him a chance, even though Kenny Pickett stinks and he's
no good and I can see the giant hills Kenny
Pittt's dealer n P. Kenny Pickett is not good. But
you could you could take Levice there and he could
easily assume the job. Same thing in Arizona. He could
assume the starting job week one, depending on when Kyler
Murray comes back for they alone. How dare you look

(05:28):
and for the Lions? I get you like Jared Goff,
but really do you like Jared Goffer? Would you like
Will Levis? Hey? You can and he can wait and sit,
and he can sit and wait. You're talking about a
quarterback in the second round. Who if he's great, think
about this. You're not paying him anything for the first
three years. Yes, if he's great, you're redoing his contract.
But you talk about having a guy saying, hey, we
don't have to worry about a quarterback deal. This is

(05:49):
a second round pick now for a guy who had
a high first round grade on him. If you're any
of these three teams, you go get Will Levis right away.
I guarantee you either somebody moves up or he's off
the board with then the first picks, the first three
picks of the second round. Even I would say, then
if the he gets by the Colts, you got the
Rams sitting there at five. Rams will take them. Hey,

(06:10):
there's your big pit right there.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Well, you look at where we sit Steelers, Cardinals, Lions, Colts, Rams,
and so the rams make sense start drifting a bit more.
What I was looking at was Detroit right like at eighteen,
thinking maybe, and then they went linebacker, so I was like, Okay,

(06:31):
now the slide.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Really yeah starts? Yeah, because you're not trying a lot
of these other teams, Like, there's so many other needs
that you're going through in depth at those positions started
to thin out again the runs that they came through.
But I would suspect his way tomorrow ain't going to
be very long quarter. I can't imagine it's going to

(06:54):
be very long that you know. At worst it's the
rams because you have the backiotomy of staf effort that
he's coming back from. Yeah, don't all of those a
gift for you?

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Well, and you come to market again sooner, right because
you don't have that fifth year?

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Yeah, and hen and Hendon Hooker also a gift. Hey,
oh this guy in a first round another the last week,
his stock seemed to rise a bunch to where I'd
started seeing him popping into top fifteens for some folks.
M h. And instead, well, now opportunity knocks uh for
teams much later because you're looking at after the Seahawks

(07:31):
pick the next pick of the so the sixth pick
of the second round, Gino Smith or do you want
Will Levis or do you want somebody else? The Raiders
then pick You could take a quarterback there too. Then
you get into a situation where you have Carolina coming back.
They have their guy. But then the Saints and the time,
so Levice will come off the board really high in
the second round. Again, if I was any of those

(07:51):
first three teams, I take him. Somebody's going to and
you when because now he's a bargain. Now you're talking
about a quarterback that could be a bargain. So forget
the fact he's a really good guy that slipped. Now
you think about the contract because it's well, we want
to get to a super Bowl while our quarterback is
on his first contract. Right look at look at the
Eagles and Jalen Hurts. Now Eagles are gonna have a
more difficult time. They got to the super Bowl, Jail

(08:13):
Hurts on his rookie deal, on a second round deal.
Now they paid him. Now it gets more difficult because
you can't keep your guys. Same thing is happening right now.
Teams will run up. I feel I feel awful for
Levice because he was there and they kept going him
and showing him in the green room and all of this,
and it's like, uh, come on, really, it's a TV show.
So yeah, but still, you invite a guy, then you
embarrass him. I mean, it's not you're embarrassing him. It's

(08:34):
not what you're showing camera show right, but you're just
showing what the reality is. But to ignore it, like
they're gonna talk about it. So if you're gonna talk
about the fact, Hey, Will Levis is still our best available,
because how do they kill time? It's always the graphic
of here's these six guys led by Will Levis. And
still but if you're showing the guy, but if you're
showing him looking like Frank the Tank walking away from

(08:55):
the Devil's game the other night with his head down
playing his time it show it stuck, showdow of him
smiling playing a game from his knees that was supposed
to make him a top five ding having an agreement
like playing dominoes or something, or just partying and to hey,
having fun and playing darts or whatever.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
I mean, just accuracy competitions to where he's throwing at
the bottles like I am sure he missed wide. Yeah,
that's why he's slipping staved watching like beer pond with water,
you know, because you know it's it's it's a it's
a family show. But yeah, I mean, did you have
a bunch of beer sponsors in the commercials? You have
that and in the end, but show that, show me that,

(09:37):
don't I mean, don't show me him.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
With the I don't know what's happening. I really. That's
the point, is the gravity of this situation, the weight
of the world, and how important this is for the NFL,
for Levis, for the talent evaluators. This is and we
made for great drama. Hey, you know you know where
we picked you? Why because we like the way you
handled the green room. You know when nobody picked you
those first thirty two. He didn't walk out like gallahad Man,

(10:01):
like Chris, remember when you sat in the green room
all the way through the first round. Many that was
that was cool.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Hey, his agent didn't have to go outside and tell
him to come back in. Hey, people are seeing this.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
He was there. He's a big boy.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't go back to that
Yannis speech. Right now, sure you can fail, you're still
gonna get an opportunity, I'm telling you. And the bucks failed,
but he he should be off the board.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Very very quickly. Tomorrow, bad day, good day, tomorrow. And
still he's going to be somebody's future because he should be,
because he's got he's got that kind of prospect. And
now he's a bargain. Now it's even more. It's almost
like if you want to buy a house, right, and
there's a really great house and you think it's awesome,
and you go look at it and it's still a
great house, but you know, hey, you know this, this

(10:49):
room needs to be redone, the garage needs to be redone.
You know this is not as convenient all this room
looked like he was a little bit better off. It's
still a great house, but maybe you don't want on it,
so you go look at other houses. You probably have
to put the money into it here, into it immediate,
and we say maybe not. But then two weeks later,
when the house is still on the market and the

(11:10):
price is dropped, he needs to be the price drop, right, Finn,
price drop You're like, oh, suddenly, now that house becomes
because oh, they dropped the price by one hundred grand.
So if I have to put one hundred grand in, well,
all right, that's fine. Now now I'm looking at is
not just a thing I really like. Now it's a
bargain So California. No, But for Will Levis, the opportunity

(11:33):
will come soon enough. And when we watched the draft,
I mean, how many guys did you have that you thought,
all right, they're gonna go in the first round.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
There's like ten guys Michael, Michael Mayer didn't go in
the first round. Two guys that I'm monitor here, Michael
run for him. But the idea that you've got at
least those two guys that were supposed to be top
half of the first round and they're still sitting there.
It's just you get into these runs. You get into
all right, what's the position scarcity, what's our true level

(12:03):
of need? Was that a luxury pick? And then suddenly
you're in the second round.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon Live from the
ti iraq dot Com studios as we break down Night
one of the NFL Draft. So there's Will Levis waiting, waiting, waiting.

(12:27):
What about the other quarterbacks?

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Right?

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Number one overall, Bryce Young goes to Carolina. CJ. Stroud,
Number two to Houston, Anthony Richardson, number four to Indianapolis.
I love, don't love love, don't love love, don't love love,
don't love love all of these picks, all of them.
I love you knew. I love Bryce Young, and I
was just waiting for sanity to set in with Carolina

(12:51):
that what does it matter his size? You're gonna protect her, worry,
but he can take a hit in the NFL. I'm sorry.
You're not gonna put an offensive line in front of him?
Is he gonna play like the three guy? Like you're
playing stream ball? The guy that is your center is
also your wide receiver. There is no protection. One, one,
one thousand. Here we go. You counted to You counted
too fast. You have to say one thousand every syllable

(13:14):
of missuspy. I did one, Missippi two, Mississippi three, Misissippi formau.
That's how I would do it. Five If you gotta
do it slower than the hell is, Miss Hippy, you're
gonna you're gonna put guys around. Oh suddenly, now we're
not gonna protect him, but every other quarterback you're gonna
get protected. This guy generational talent with what he can
do at the football term in all of these he

(13:34):
is every generational he is of all the quarterbacks. He
is that good. He is like Patrick Mahomes, but a
guy who's a little bit smaller. And I guarantee you
when we look back at this draft in five years,
we're gonna go, wow, boy, I can't believe there was
any question that Bryce Young was gonna be the number
one overall pick in this draft. No excited that it
played to form.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
That was the one that if you were playing along
at home and you filled out the mock drafts, that
was the I wrote my name correctly on my test
teacher because it became captain obvious kind of thing. So
Young a huge run. We saw the change out of
the wide receiving core and he had to do that

(14:16):
double take. Right as soon as you see DJ Shark's
name pop in, it's like, wait, no, yeah, no, DJ
Moore is in Chicago. J Shark is there so you're
looking at the talent that that flipped over there. So
the rebuild the bold strategy to totally reclaim this squad
and for for Bryce Young an opportunity because you know

(14:38):
he's getting a long term opportunity right the way they're
they're going to let a program be constructed, which is
what leads to number two and Stroud going right because Houston,
we always expect them to do everything wrong right front office.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Right. That's kind of difficult, but like.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
Legitimate, and I tweeted it out immediately right upon the
trade that then nets them Anderson at three. But it
was the moment of these two things come together, and
you talk about the Will Levis moment. If people had
a camera on me in that moment, it was it
was like you heard angels sing because everything wait, they
did two moves correctly, they got past the noise of

(15:21):
the S two and whatever else right, because we heard
that how many times on the telecasts and and everything
as you're you're monitoring, and certainly it came up a
little bit here on Fox Sports Radio on our draft coverage.
For the brilliance of Bryce Young in that test and
for what it might mean to CJ. Straut Well didn't matter.
Houston makes the pick and takes the guy, and you

(15:42):
saw the emotion for Straut So like those first two picks,
you're just giddy. I mean, yeah, it was a little odd,
you know for everybody out there that might have had
a parlay on one and two and how it was
gonna go down.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
But I don't know if they were gonna interrupt with
more Chiefs on the stage going, hey, we won the
super Bowl. It's in your town and you have the title.
You celebrate the hell out of it.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
If somewhat from Kansas City was the current holder of
the twenty four to seven championship in the WWE, they
would have been.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
Right now, that's right about the bounce the pick. No, look,
I love Stroud and I love the guts that they
had to take him because you you had heard a
lot of ol maybe they could tank Caleb Williams better
prospect than anybody this year, and that's what they were
gonna do. When you draft too, you get a quarterback,
you don't have no idea how it's gonna go. You
tried to take this year and look what happened. Lovey
Smith screwed you from getting Bryce young. Hey, we're gonna

(16:34):
wait and then I'm gonna get fired and I'll see
you later. The lovees. What did Jake Lazer tell us
last night? They're calling it the love Smith draft?

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Right?

Speaker 1 (16:40):
He called it, and he said, I talked to Lovey
He said, are you gonna watch the draft? Lovey Smith
said no, love Smith not watching the Lovey Smith Draft.
But I love they did that. Look. C J. Stroud
has Cam Newton like potential, except he's gonna be a
little bit better passer and probably not quite as good
a runner. Running is is much more instinctual, and Stroud
is a pass first quarterback, so's he already throws the

(17:02):
ball better. He'll be a better thrower, but being you know,
when you have that weapon, you gotta be able to know, hey,
this is what I need to make some plays on
my legs. So he has that that kind of potential,
and I'm glad they went with him. I don't care
about the I don't care what he got on a test,
what he got on this what he got You can
sit here and say, oh, well, you know, there's plenty
of equid Look at this quarterback. We didn't do well
in this test. Look at how many guys did great
on tests and they all stink all right, So don't

(17:24):
worry about that. What did the guys show you on tape?
On the field, he was really good when the chips
were down, and it's like, you need a big game
in a big situation. He had a big game in
a big situation in the in the playoff game. So yeah,
I love that they had guts. He was a guy
to go get that. He has Cam Newton like potential.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
And that's the fun part of where that pick comes
down is you didn't expect him to do the right thing,
even with Demiko Ryan's coming in. We watched Lovey Smith,
we watched David Culley before him, no organizational stability, going
back to Trader Bill going nuts and sending everybody out
of town. You had the whole Deshaun Watson debacle, and

(18:02):
then after that, everybody's looking around and going what do
we got? JJ Watt left, he ends up in Arizona.
So you have all of this instability and reporting questions.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Of who's in charge of all of this. So to
have what appears to be a hard reset at the
top of this draft with CJ. Stroud coming in, talk
about being battle tested, and folks can laugh all they
want about, uh, the Big Ten's record in Bowl Gate.
I don't care you play. Look at the track record

(18:33):
of Ohio State quarterbacks in the NFL. But the well,
because that's it. He gets tied to all of those guys, right,
just like the Alabama quarterbacks. Now, maybe hurts makes people
feel a little bit better, like, ah, you got nothing
but nameth and a lot of and I guess Kenny
Stable and then a lot of stuff in between. Look
how many Jets players have failed in the NFL. Wait
a minute, No, it's true though many Jets players. You

(18:55):
have to move, go somewhere else and maybe you find
something better. But it's the seventh and of her very
of Laramie Tunsil's famous draft night. Oh yeah, that he's
gotten fat off. He sold an NFT out of it.
Did you know that? And they donated the money. I
can't believe. I'm not surprised. I'm not surprised at that.
That's all.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
So he's a guy that and any negotiates his own
deal and now he's the highest paid guy that will
have to protect CDs drat Nico Collins, a guy they're
kind of high on Damian Pierce quitted himself nicely, and
you bring in Dalton Schultz, so you get the makings.
I'd be curious to see what they do with the
rest of the picks, to try to round out offensively
and see what kind of other talent they can bring in.

(19:33):
But no, at least for the moment, they did what
they should have done, and they stayed on the path
with the logic, which really goes against everything they've done
in the last couple of years. So congratulations Houston, your
team is back in business. Twitter at ou about a fresca.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Mike has swollen down The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike carbon as we break down Round one
of the NFL Draft. In the books. More quarterbacks to
get too, we'll get to Anthony Richardson and straight ahead. Also,
Lamar Jackson state a raven wow to say, I told
you so. I whift on that one, buddy, But you

(20:11):
just you just said that because I said he was
gonna go. So you just took the other side of
me that it was right. Okay, that's you. You were right.
You were you were Smith. You never want to take
the I tried to give you. L's all kinds of left.
I tried to make you eat L's last night, and
you would eat any of the l's. I tried to
get eat this ll eat this out that's coming up
next right here, this is Fox Sports Radio eating L's

(20:33):
or the hostess cupcakes. So I'm gonna bust open right now.
We're we're being filmed on camera a party right camera
asked this entire thing. I'm gonna be the first person
to eat something on camera in the new studios here
at Fox Sports. Member, it has to be on camera
camera a cupcake. Hey, Alex, it sounds like he's working

(20:54):
from home. He does you good? Darren Rogers running now?
You know what you guys all suck? How about that
he was punching air right now? Okay, you guys Allso
be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. With the fifteenth pick in the twenty twenty

(21:16):
three NFL Draft, the New York Jay Day Chests Chats
Chats select Will McDonald's linebacker. Hiowa, stay, let's go. Yeah,
I think that's Tighther's kid, Let's go, Let's go. It
is we will have that drop forever now because he

(21:39):
was awesome. He was great. I always thought he was
gonna go the New York j e TS Jets, Jets,
Jets who got Aaron Rodgers and going to the super
Bowl because we're going. He worked out today. There was
video forget about. Oh he's not gonna show up. He's
already there with the Jets logo on. They select for
Jason Smith Will McDonald because the number of times he
talked about McDonald's, they had to get a player named McDonald.

(22:02):
I'm sure James is gonna have a big back for
him tonight. Very excited. That would have been a nice edition.
Is very very exciting. Absolutely, he was jacked up about it.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
And uh, you know, we noticed that Rogers footwork was
a little off and the ball was a little wobbly,
but that's okay.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Tj Will McDonald's on the Jets j E t As Jets.
I've been waiting to give you that one all night.
Oh wait, as soon as that happened.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
I've been waiting to give you that one as soon
as I saw it because I had Roger Jones going there.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Jets. Yeah, all the Patriots. I'm a surprise than he
speaking of screw screwing me. Boys, gonna take that one. Wow,
thank you almost so, Jason, is that also on camera?
That well? On camera? Yeah? Okay, okay, thank you, go
on camera.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
The Ravens keep Lamar Jackson all right. They give him
over one hundred and eighty million dollars guaranteed money, so
not quite the two fifty he was seeking, more than
the one thirty three initially. End he is now the
highest paid player in NFL history. I at average of
a million dollars more than Jalen Hursts. I can't believe
he went back, but he did. I missed it. I

(23:12):
got it wrong, But I gotta say I'm not surprised
I got it wrong, because when no team wants to
trade for you and you don't have an agent, and
other teams are finding it weird to try to talk
to you and contact you, where are you gonna go.
I'm gonna go back to the team that has a
dialogue with me and talks with me, that knows me,
and this is the team that I played for. They're

(23:33):
the team that's gonna give me the money. So I
was wrong, and I'm also I'm not even surprised that
I'm wrong about that.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
Yeah, when it came down to it, I felt pretty
good about this one when it came down this morning.
Now I am disappointed that this all resolved itself ahead
of the drafty.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
We got a lot tonight we still have.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
You know, is Arizona get a trade Baker Hocket Giggs
in Buffalo? I mean there's still a few of those.
But with Lamar, remember what I what I said for
both both sides, it was probably the best of things
because you probably felt it was personal. You didn't have
