(00:48):
way tire buying should be. Well, let me just say
this all right, cause we set it a year ago.
Maybe maybe it was Joe Girardi's fault. Hey, look at
the Phillies go to the world. See uh, the Lakers
they trade away Russell Westbrook. Look at the run they go.
Maybe it was Russell Westbrook's fault. Lakers right now fifteen

(01:10):
point lead at halftime over the Nuggets. They've scored seventy
three points Maybe it was D'Angelo Russell's fault.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Wow, may you know sending him to the bank for
this game. Maybe it was D'Angelo Russell's fault.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
Well, the fact that Tristan Thompson has four minutes played.
Maybe maybe it was the fact that Lebron James said,
you know what, I'm gonna put up the night of
nights so nobody can blame me if this.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Oh, that's exactly what they I tweeted that this is
the Lebron. You can't blame me if we get swept.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Fuck Blake. I scored fifty.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
What do you watch for? I scored fifty tonight? No
one else is any good? I scored fifty? What else?
What else do you want? A d's got nine. Don't
blame me, blame Ad. He's the guy, not my fault.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Balance all around a D nine points eight boards at
the half. But Lebron eleven to thirteen from the field, includsing,
including the excuse me it really was supposed to be
an alley oop, but it's a three point shot make
in the first half thirty one on his eleven for thirteen,
four for four from three point range, seventy three sixty

(02:11):
We have just begun the third quarter. Lebron James thirty
one points tonight so far on eleven of thirteen shooting.
He's got four rebounds, four assists. He is having an
unbelievable night. Does he have forty eight minutes in his
legs because it doesn't look like he's sitting down.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
He's gonna have to. But again, this is the look.
You can't blame me, Lebron James. I've left everything out.
What are you gonna say, not my fault? This is
I know my legacy. I know what people are gonna
say if we get swept. See, it's all Lebron's fault.
Lebron can't do it. We told you Lebron was done.
So I know if that's gonna happen, I gotta score

(02:48):
fifty so at least some people will say yeah. But
still like, you gotta give me at least credit for
scoring fifty if you're gonna rip me and say it
was my fault.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Lebron.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
In the final minute of the game, as Jokis drove
to the basket, you literally tripped over your own tongue.
You were so tired, allowing for an easy conversion and
the eventual Nuggets win?

Speaker 1 (03:08):
How do you feel about that? But let let let's see.
Let let's take it. Let's take the temperature where Lakers
entirely right now? Okay, let let let's take a temperature
now down three zip, looking like it's absolutely over. But
here they are fifteen point lead here. Hey, hey, frostburg
a right, how do you feel about the Lakers right now?

Speaker 5 (03:26):
How do you?

Speaker 2 (03:26):
How do you feel about it? They're bleeping back? All right?
There we are?

Speaker 5 (03:31):
You tell them?

Speaker 6 (03:31):
Are the Nuggets? What a bunch of stupid dummies doing
the celebration for the trophy before the game while Lebron's
doing a shoot around, So we had to hear that. Wow,
talk about poking a bear man.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
Lebron did show up to the arena what seven hours earlier?

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Thereabout?

Speaker 6 (03:48):
You don't do that on his home court.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
No, wait a minute, wait, did did they give him credit?
Did he score points before the game? And that's how
he's gotten thirty one?

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Like I want to know he wanted to show you
how committed he was to not going home today. Oh okay,
all right, very I just wanted to see that, Okay,
I don't whatever.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
It takes, whatever motivates you, whatever, narrative you're trying to create.
That's all finding good and if they finished the game, great.

Speaker 6 (04:09):
And you don't want you don't think Lebron James wants
this on his resume, coming the only player and team
ever to come back from both three.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Talked about? Is this in this? Can you call Arian
Foster see if this is in the script that.

Speaker 7 (04:24):
It's to be a while, you can carry the Celtics
along with him and they both do it to get
a Laker Celtics If this is it, Yeah, it's right out.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah, I mean really, if anything will tell you the
NBA is not fixed, it's well, we could have had
a Laker Celtics final, but instead we're getting Nuggets.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Heat fourth win. That's not true.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Oh so everybody's coming back from threes, that's what it's
gonna be. Both teams coming back from hurricanes hurricanes. Yeah, sure,
it's everything. Everything is coming back from three zip. Now
we're only two, is it? We got another twenty minutes
before you can be done threes. Just to let you know,
not done yet. They were intermission. See, but that's where
we sit right now. Lakers ten point lead over the Nuggets,

(05:10):
seventy five sixty five with about nine and a half
to go. In the third quarter, Lebron's got thirty one,
Jokic with twelve, eight and six, and Jamal Murray, who
has been killing the Lakers the entire series, is now
up to eighteen. Every one in the Nuggets starting lineup
is in double figures, but it's still a double digit
lead for the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Nine and a half to go.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
We'll keep you updated on this throughout because either we're
talking about the Lakers being back and oh can Lebron
bring the team back for three zero deficit?

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Or it's gonna be what are the Lakers need to
do to change? He change?

Speaker 5 (05:40):
He change?

Speaker 2 (05:40):
How was it not good enough? So the storm ready? Okay,
very good? See my scripts I've written myself.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, but I wish we would know what the script was.
We know, like I could throw half the stuff out,
you know, I mean no, I.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Mean, you gotta be prepared.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
So we will talk about eviscerating the roster and question
Darvin Ham if it goes wrong. Okay, they suddenly win
this game, Well, you breathe a little bit of life
into a city and into a team, and hope, I
mean I hope, but right now, in these times is
a huge thing a lot of people out there. You know,
we had more reports of job loss in our industry

(06:16):
and across different different ways and means in our world,
so you know, and everybody's going through a little bit
of something we don't know. So across this country, across
the globe, as folks are listening to us, you know,
we're trying to foster that that hope that there is
a brighter tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
All right, I'm with you there, but I still would
rather know because here's the thing. Like when we had Zoe,
my wife didn't want to know what we were having, yeah,
And I was like, okay, cool. I was like, well,
I think we could know, because then we get too surprised, right,
we get surprised by knowing what the baby is, and
then we get surprised when the baby comes, Right, we
get too surprised. She goes, no, I don't want to know.
I'm like okay, So I'm like Sabbey's We got to

(06:55):
come up names twice as many names that we got
to come up with, So we had to come up
with the five if we liked for a girl, the
five we like for a boy.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
I'm like this is a lot of work. We could
just cut this in half.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
I'd like to know I got all the names because
the names are both I gotta tell you, coming with
boys names is really hard.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
There's not a lot of boys names I liked. There's
not a lot. I get it, honest.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
You've crossed paths with a lot of let's call it
what it is in our industry, you've crossed paths with
a lot of men. Yeah, there's a lot of names
you're throwing up because you don't like those people.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
The only you don't associate that kid forever with that
guy that worked alongside you or someone that was one
of your bosses, yeah boss above him you thought was
an idiot. Oh yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
But the thing that the name I liked the most,
that I would have had to convince pam on that.
I was waiting the very end, like to for it
to be the name at the end where hey Mello, No, no,
no Mello would have been viny mellow Smith. No, No,
I wanted sever I was like, hey called him Seeve. Yeah,
but here's the sever would have been.

Speaker 8 (07:55):
Going to be.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Tell me that wasn't gonna be somebody that could throw
are you celebrating the life and work or of Growing Pains, well,
the show Growing Pains. But I wanted I was like,
that was a name I was going to come up
with at the end, going it's a boy. I know
you have all these other names. How about Severever would
have been the best?

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Well, I mean you might have had an opportunity to
fill out for him was incapacitated, would have been filled out?

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Is mister me taking mister mister met Smith that we
couldn't what would call the baby mister would be?

Speaker 2 (08:24):
I don't know about the last name. It's just mister mett.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
I don't know or just what if I just called
if I just called them keitherr Nandez Smith, it's ed.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Look at that kid, it's keither Nandez comes out with
a mustache. Yeah, that's pretty good.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Uh So, we'll have more on the NBA game coming
up in a bit The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Carmen live from the ti iraq dot
com studios. Uh But, as a Frostburg mentioned, we waved
farewell today to Carmelo Anthony, who was retiring after nineteen
years in the NBA. He made his announcement on social

(09:02):
media earlier today and a very you know, I like
the announcement because he made it about his son, right.
He didn't talk a lot about his life and career
because I mean, look, the guy played nineteen years could
have mentioned a lot of people, but he made it
all about Hey, my legacy. My legacy is my son.
And I thought that was pretty cool to make it.
You know, here's what people are gonna watch thousands of times,
and there's a video he's in it all around. I

(09:24):
really thought that was cool. He made his legacy what's
my legacy? Because he did go third person a couple
of times, Carmelo Anthony on this what's my legacy? I'm like, ah,
come on, show me that twenty two to ten in
the National Championship game, show me thirty three against Texas
in the final four game.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
No, and he made it about his kid. I thought
that was cool. Oh it's a nice touch.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
I mean, plenty of folks will throw the flowers at him,
the same folks that mocked his career, denigraded his career,
took shots at him for titles or well titles not one,
all of those kind of things, and where he was
and where he was incomplete as a player, all of
those things, the and arrows. But today it's about celebration

(10:02):
one being able to play nineteen years.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Man.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
All right, let's before you. We have so many things.
I got so many great things about melow type. But first,
here's one of his hats. Here's the do you not
legitimately his hat? But he came Warren hatline?

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Oh a mellow hat from his hat.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
It's the orange one, right, Is that the one you'd
leather the red leather?

Speaker 5 (10:22):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Okay, it wasn't his draft hot, was it? No?

Speaker 4 (10:25):
No, his draft hat not literally Carmelo's hat design.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Here's Mellow retiring from earlier today.

Speaker 8 (10:32):
But now the time has come for me to say
goodbye to the court where I made my name, to
the game that gave me purpose and pride. But this
bittersweet goodbye to the NBA. I'm excited about what the
future holds for me. When people ask what I believe
my legacy is, it's not my feats on the court
that come to mind, No the awards or praise, because

(10:52):
my story has always been more than basketball. My legacy,
my son, that's in you. I will forever continue to
you because the time has come for you to carry
this tooys. So car Chase dreams, let nothing hold you back.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Pretty cool.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
I mean that's the majority. Yeah, this is what you
have to live up to.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Yeah, hey, you see what you see all this video
of me doing all. You know, only seven guys in
NBA history scored more points than b.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Okay, seven guys. I'm going the Hall of Fame. What
are you gonna do? What are you gonna do this?
What do you say? I've laid down the gaunt.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Let me you know, I'm putting my hat down on
the baseline.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Let's go. Lebron James and I are in the same
draft Class three. All I read about is his.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Kid gets gonna wind up to going to USC and
then he's gonna play. And then I read about his
other kid now talking like Steven Ai Smith, Carl Mello, Anthony.
I gotta read about his other kid who is leaving
his high school for another high school.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
I have not read anything about you. I have nothing
about you. I've read it. Lebron's g everybody's got kids,
everybody's got I need a headline. I need a guy.
You gotta give me something, you gotta give. This is
the best I can do you gotta give me something
if I gotta.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Read what if I gotta see Sierra Canyon's name one
more time?

Speaker 6 (12:16):
Harmon?

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Did you see what he did there? What did he
do there? Hellos?

Speaker 6 (12:20):
Ninth, but Smith had him at seventh, like four thousand
points ahead.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
Oh okay, okay? Sorry?

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Eight people, seven people, seven people, seven people, eight people, Anthony.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Okay, he's okay. Ninth, biggest score NBA history.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Okay, crack the top No one says cracking.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Do you crack the top ten? Crack the top eight?
That's what it is the NBA. It's eight. You said, no,
it's not. That's on this list. Eight.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Would you stop dissing Mellow just because he showed up
for one year with the Lakers and wasn't really what
you thought he was gonna be.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Just stop, Just give it to me. Ninth behind Shaquille O'Neill,
Wilt Chamberlain, Come on, VIDs. Do you know how many
and the baskets Carmelo got in the NB? Oh? Sorry,
did I do that? Come on, man, I'll be honest.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
I thought he was signing a ten day and he
was gonna come and give him a couple of good
minutes sounds.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Like like I'm just gonna go play a couple of
games here in Game four for the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
That's that's all I needed. A guy that can shoot,
that's all, long range, two point shots, that's all. That's
all I got. That's all.

Speaker 6 (13:21):
The Lakers paid him as much as Syracuse did. Maybe
he would have showed up.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Maybe maybe it would have happened, right. Not my fault,
I was.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
I wasn't cutting the check where you know what, Why
don't you call your buddy Jane Moore and ask him
why they didn't cut that check for him? What you
waiting for a wedding invite? Sorry Lakers owner Jane Moore?
Why don't you can find him in Boston? I think
this weekend as he was promoting, he wasn't boss because
I saw him in opening up for the Celtics. He

(13:49):
opened up for him, open up for Jason Tatum. You're
either gonna get a great show or it's gonna be awful.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
That's all.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
When I opened up for Tatum, That's how it is.
Twitter and out of Fresco. Mike gets swolling down the

Speaker 6 (14:15):
Well.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Right now, two big sporting events happening. Third period. The
Panthers a look, gonna go up three zip over the Hurricanes.
They lead it one nothing. Meanwhile, that Laker lead over
the Nuggets, oh gone, seventy nine, seventy eight. It's been
a big Nuggets run to start the third quarter. Six
and a half left to go. Lebron's gonna have to

(14:36):
start piling up the points. It's probably not gonna be enough.
This is where we go. Man, I'm telling you, how
much did this game look like? Hey, the Lakers are
up big, but they're just gonna reel them in over
the course of the second half. That's what's happening to
the Lakers right now. The script seventy nine to seventy eight,
six minutes to go in the third quarter. But coming
up next, we got some big NFL stuff to get to.

(14:58):
One future Hall of Fame quarterback admitted rooting against his
former team and his former team's quarterback.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
This weekend. That's next right here, Jason to Mike Fox.

Now it's really gone. The Nuggets have a three point

(15:42):
lead with three minutes to go on the third quarter.
They have erased a fifteen point lead in the first
nine minutes of the third to have a three point
lead over LA. We'll have more on this game coming up,
potential elimination game for the Lakers, but joining us now

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Say what's happening?

Speaker 5 (16:13):
Man, what's going on Live Change, Addiction and Metallica?

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Man, Yeah, we're full seconds.

Speaker 5 (16:19):
Double walk up music? About that?

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Wow? I didn't think about that. Well, you know, if
anybody's worth it, you are.

Speaker 5 (16:24):
Yeah. I appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Yeah, he get the double walk up music.

Speaker 5 (16:27):
I respect it.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Uh hey, So.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Let's start with the big headline from today. We saw
that now NFL owners have agreed to flexible scheduling for
Thursday night football. At this point, everything is inevitable, right,
We're gonna get We're gonna get football Monday, Tuesday, Thursday.
Frida like if they if they're going to flexible schedule
on Thursday, come on.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
We talked about this seven or eight weeks ago and
I was like this could still happen, and you guys
were like no, but I mean, they couldn't do it
for this year? Could they? And I'm like, they can
do whatever that help they want to do?

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Can I say it? Just like?

Speaker 5 (17:02):
That?

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Was that my void?

Speaker 5 (17:03):
That?

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Okay?

Speaker 5 (17:04):
All right? But you mean for this year? And I'm like,
they make everything up as they go along. If they
think they can print more money. They'll print more money.
If Bezos comes to their meeting in May and says,
these games stake and Al David al Davis, we'll get
the hell we'll come up with the Mark Davis.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
That would be a story.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
Sure, yeah, you know, Al Michaels is falling asleep on air,
and you know what I mean, Herbstreet doesn't know if
he's doing a college game or a pro game, and
this stuff's over at halftime. It's not good enough. You know,
I'm going to eventually give you seven billion dollars for
the Seahawks, but you got to do something for me
here like they can. I mean, it's been clear, right,
it's been painfully clear forever that they can do whatever

(17:42):
the hell they want to do to try to continue
to be as gluttonous as they can. And fans be damned,
and you know, planning be damned. And you might be
flying cross country to take your kid to see, you know,
his favorite team for the first time ever. You may

(18:03):
have planned that trip three to four months ahead of
time to try to maximize your value, right, to try
to do it as cheaply as possible, And you may
find out four weeks before that game that it ain't
being played when you thought it was being played, and
he might have a big test or an exam, or
she might have a big test or an exam or
something else going on, and you can't adjust. And you

(18:24):
know what, shame on you. The joke's on you, because
the show will go on, and it'll go on the
way the owners wanted to go on, even with some
prominent voices in this league continuing to express their dissent,
and I mean prominent voices at the ownership level. But
it's clear that a lot of favors were called in

(18:45):
in the last whatever six weeks or so. Hey, we
gave you a Super Bowl. Hey, remember that time we
did this for you. Hey remember that time you got
this funding for your stadium. Goodell rallied the troops. There's
no doubt about that.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
Yeah, And you've had a number of players complaints, Like
you guys, keep signing into these things. Do what you
want in the name of the Just grow the revenue,
revenue because we get our half, and eventually, you know,
we'll we'll start more and more of these games. More
flexibility and trying to trying to ascertain Jason just where

(19:20):
it ends in it all.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
Look, if it's a two maximum, now, what do you
think two or three years from now they're going to
be doing. You know, we're gonna work.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Jay, We're gonna have it's gonna be most of the
games on Sunday. We're gonna get a Monday night game.
We're gonna get a Tuesday night game, because you play Monday,
you can play Tuesday, maybe not Wednesday, but we can
get a Thursday night game shore and then we get
a Friday night game.

Speaker 5 (19:40):
Yeah, that's what we're gonna write, especially once the high
school season is over, right and they stop, you know,
pretending that they're you know, cowtowing to Friday night lights.
Now I mean, but I mean the idea that they're, oh,
you know, we're only going to do this in the
most serious manners and only between weeks thirteen and seventeen,
and never more than voice in a year. And the

(20:01):
standards by which the situation would have to rise to
to flex this out is so much more significant than
what it would take to flex a game you know,
from Sunday to Monday or whatever, or you know, one
pm to eight pm on a Sunday, Like stop it,
stop it right and we know how this is going

(20:24):
to play out. They're probably going to leap to do
it early, right, the first chance they think they have
to upgrade, they're gonna do it. And then they're gonna
want to do it again. And once they've done it
twice within three weeks, and now for this year, we
can't do it anymore, right, because this is the BS
we came up for now. But don't worry, we'll change
that BS six months from now, because again, who's gonna
stop us. It's our billionaires boys club, Like, yeah, it's

(20:47):
you're gonna eventually find a situation where everything's fungible, everything's malleable,
and we'll do whatever the hell we please. And if
you show up, you show up, and if you don't,
you don't. But this is about getting you know, more
eyeballs on the Amazon Worldwide feed than it is about
how many people show up in any individual stadium on
any damn Thursday night.

Speaker 4 (21:09):
So Ben Roethlisberger, the bane of the existence oftentimes for
the Ravens for the about two decades, goes on a
podcast as Kenny Picking. I respect that he said it
to his face, but said he was actively rooting against him.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
How great is this He's He's something else man. And
it wasn't just any podcast. It was Ben's podcast Footballing,
which if you're not familiar with it, we've we're regular listeners.
We have one of our producers like always scanning the
feed to see you, like he subscribes, you know what
I mean. And whenever a new Footballing drops, were like, dude,
you need to spend forty five minutes and listen to

(21:43):
that and tell us that there's any golden there, because
there's always golden there. And we were very familiar with Spence.
Spence is his co host. They've done a lot of
great stuff. They do live shows where he'll drink some
beers and watch a Steelers game and comment on the
Steelers game, what's going on, like, oh, I wouldn't have
called that play? Oh the offensive coordinator screwed up there?

(22:04):
Like he's the best and the truly like rough burglarian
thing of this, like that's the most Big Ben to
the nth degree is that Now Kenny Pickett's evolution is
about Big Ben, you know what I mean, Like somehow
it's not even about how this guy takes over for
this generational quarterback and like how he fares or doesn't fare,

(22:28):
or how Canny Pickett navigates all this and he's got
to do it knowing he's already that was his former
home field, right he already was at pitt and he
was the only quarterback taken in the first round that year.
And there's so much that goes into all that. Now
it's about does he pass muster with Ben? And when
Ben thinks he's passed enough muster, Ben will bring him
on Ben's podcast to now like knight him and say,

(22:50):
yeahd was rooting against you for a while, kid, but
you're okay, so now I'm team you, which really is
just a roundabout way of making this still all about Ben,
Like Ben just wants us to always be talking emaut Ben.
He when used to invent injuries in production meetings and
whishpering it to his friends in the media to build
the mythology of Ben. And none of this takes away
what he did on the field. But like all that

(23:13):
went into like Big Ben Industries, it's it's kind of phenomenal,
Like the yarns he would spin, the lengths he would
go to to keep it being all about Ben. It's
kind of amazing. And I used to think he did
it because it helped motivate him. You know, it was
part of why he was so great. Like all this
just went into like whatever mental space he needed to

(23:33):
be in to continue to slay the dragon every Sunday.
But he's not playing dragons anymore. It's just literally all
about Ben.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
See I think about it this way.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
When I think is when I look at Ben Roethlisberger,
he was always the anti quarterback, like I'm not going
to win passing titles, but I want you to respect
me as like the John Wayne of NFL quarterback.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
Yeah, and I.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
Look at him now as hey, I don't want to
be the guy that says, hey, I want to be
on television and be somebody who has a big but
I want you to come and ask me. Because I'm
doing this stuff on my podcast. I'm not going to
go out and try it, but I want you to
come to me and ask me to do it.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Well, that's kind of how I see it.

Speaker 5 (24:08):
I don't want to, Yeah, I want to stay relevant
on my own terms when I feel like sort of
making it about me, But I don't want to go
to some studio, you know what I mean? Twenty two
straight weeks in the fall, in the winter. You know
what I mean, I don't have to watch all these
other games, Like I just want to watch the Steelers
games on my terms, talk about them with my friends
on my podcast, you know what I mean, and occasionally

(24:28):
go national because of that. Like, yeah, but it is.
It is kind of crazy that he didn't just keep
this to himself. Like some people like, why applaud is honesty? Well, no,
but it's not honesty in the sake of transparency. It's
honesty in the sake of keeping us talking about Ben Rothisberger.

Speaker 4 (24:45):
No good job by him. I can't fault a good strategy.
I did look up ed boushett Is retired.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
That's all.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
I had to do that. We talked about it for years.
But from a football practical standpoint. From the the Steelers, Jason,
they not only re signed Trubisky, they also brought back
Mason Rudolph.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
What does it mean?

Speaker 5 (25:07):
I don't know. I I don't quite know. I guess
they want to continue to have this competition rage on.
I guess they think strength and numbers. I guess you
know they've seen quarterbacks be hurt and the more the merrier.

(25:28):
But boy, if they're playing you those other two. They're
not gonna like it's you know, it's game set match.
Like if Kenny Pickett can't play eighty percent of their
games or more, they're in trouble. Now if he does
play eighty percent or more, I think they're a viable
wild card team. And who knows that even in that division?
Who anything's possible? Three teams from that division going to

(25:53):
the postseason wouldn't surprise me at all. It kind of
the AFC North looks like the AL East to me
a little bit in that they're going to have more.
They can have every team finished five hundred or above.
You know, if Deshaun Watson flips the switch, I don't
think he's going to, but I'm not going to discount
the possibility. So I think if they're playing with Trubisky,

(26:13):
if they're playing with Mason Rudolph, I think they're screwed.
You know. Part of this also maybe now that Tickets
got a year under his belt, they're going to be
very judicious about how they deploy him in the preseason.
I also think they've, you know, they should have the
best offensive line they've had in a while, and so

(26:34):
you never know, right, Like you have three quarterbacks, you
play two of them throughout the preseason, another team has
a couple of injuries, and then you flip these guys
into something in the future that you think might help
you more than they can in the present or the
near term future in terms of being your potential number
three quarterback for the twenty twenty three season. So I
think they're in very good hands on her own, Mark
count They've made a lot of shrewd moves, you know,

(26:56):
including turning Chase Claypool, you know, a wide receivers, or
they couldn't wait to get rid of into Joey Porter Junior,
who they very well could have taken with their first pick,
let alone, you know, the first pick of the second round.
So I don't really like either of those quarterbacks. But
you know, I'm not going to sit here and tell
you that they They're not doing this for a reason,

(27:18):
and maybe they do find a way to extract a
little value on the trade market for one of them.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
You can fall him on Twitter at Jason lock and

for Mi Canes. They're breaking sticks on the way to
the locker room. Not a lot of urgency in those
final minutes now, Well, the Panthers are parking the bus.
We got five guys, gonna put them right in front
of the net. Can't score if we react all the
guys in front of the net. What third one goal
defeat by the Hurricanes? Matthew Chuck scores in overtime the
first two they lose one nothing tonight.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
I hate hockey. Well, he also.

Inspired Jimmy Butler to wear a sweater and dry warm up,
so sure to kind of mock the world. Have the

jump sticks. I was waiting for one to fly off
and hit a teammate. You know, unbeknownst to him, he's
walking in he's salty too.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Ah, come on, man didby in the eye.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
He died.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
Can't even see lawsuits between teammates because it's reckless behavior.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Seven and a half to go in Los Angeles. Are
we gonna be talking about Game five between the Lakers
and the Nuggets or are the Nuggets gonna finish off?
The Lakers and Nuggets lead it one hundred to ninety eight.
Lebron has thirty eight, but just seven so far in
the second half. Meanwhile, everybody getting it done for the Nuggets.
Jokickuy's twenty three, Murray's got twenty two, Gordon's got nineteen,

(30:52):
Porters got fifteen. They are once again shooting over forty
seven percent from the floor. The Nuggets reeling in the Lakers,
but still seven minutes left to go in this and
it still could go either way. Now, we had Carmelo
Anthony retire from the NBA earlier today, and you know,
tough for me. You know, you brobably one of the
three championships I have in my life. I had the

(31:13):
Mets in eighty six, I get Syracuse and O three,
and I got Carolina in six. So I mean I
don't have a lot. Yeah, I don't have a lot.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
A former teams each other tonight. I mean that's tough.
I mean, Mello brought me the second biggest title of
my life. And that's it.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
It's all I got. I got three times. I love sports.
My teams don't win, oh now.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Don't win.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
But this is what I will always think about with Melo,
And the more time that goes by, the more baffling
the seams is that no one's left now from the
two thousand and three draft except Lebron James. But that
two thousand and three draft, Lebron goes number one changes
the NBA. You would think Carmelo Anthony coming off of
leading Syracuse to the National Championship as a freshman, putting

(31:56):
together probably the most impressive individual NCAA tournament of.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
The last forty years.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Okay, you got guys that had big tournaments back in
the early seventies and sixties, and Oscar Robertson and Kareem
and all those guys, But him and Laytoner really had
the two best individual years. Right, you would think he's
a slam dunk small forward going at number two. But
instead the Pistons, who were really starting over, picking second,
they picked Darko Millicits right, who we know now turns
out to one of the biggest bust in NBA history.

(32:25):
Carmelo goes third to the Denver Nuggets. How the Pistons
did not pick Mellow goes is beyond me. I get that,
Larry Brown, at the time, Piston's head coach, was coming
with a better defensive philosophy, but the game is still
about scoring points. You were still putting that team together.
You didn't know if Tayshawn Prince was gonna be a
really good defensive small forward. He was you traded for

(32:48):
Rashid Wallace. Okay, And the fact the Pistons went on
to win the title and go back to back NBA titles,
that's great, But you could have won three if you
took Melo. Sure, because even if you brought Mellow in
this way, right, let's just say you had the team.
What would Mellow likely have done his first year? Larry Brown,
longtime coach, Mellot, You're gonna come off the bench, Okay,

(33:10):
You're coming off the bench playing against other team second units.
He's gonna score twenty some odd points a game off
the bench. And now likely he probably would have stayed
that way for his rookie contract with the Pistons and
then would have said I want to start, and he
would have gone someplace else and made a lot of money.
But you're looking at that Pistons team that was really
good and not that you had to put him in
and displace people you would add. Okay, now tayshaw On

(33:31):
Prince is not here, But if he's coming off the
bench and being that guy and being a six man
and scored, because that's what he was He's one of
the best scorers in NBA history, one of the top
five that I've ever seen. Tell me how that doesn't
translate into a champions, into two or three chap probably
three champions with the Pistons. How does that you bring
in youth? Because you won these titles without getting anything
out of your number two overall pick right, you had

(33:53):
an iron five players. You could have extended these guys
primes a little bit more instead of having Prince and
Wallace and and and Billups all.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Play, you know, forty some odd minutes a night, you
draft men. I don't know how you don't draft that guy?
How do you not draft Mellow coming off of the
year yet? No, No, we want dark On Militic instead.
I don't understand.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
Well, I think part of it was you're talking Milicic
as the long term future, a guy that you'll eventually
get on on board with and rotate in Carmelo. Would
he necessarily be okay with being a bench guy after

(34:33):
that dominant performance in the NCAA tournament? Does he accept
that role? Whereas you got the unproven coming from overseas
to where it's it's an easier transition of Hey, we
slowly bring you along. You think Carmelo is buying into
being a six man. I think of a choice though

(34:55):
I'm here, but is that the guy that is a
clubhouse But is that a clubhouse guy? Because but you
can tell me all you want about how much. And
obviously he's one of the great scorers in all time.
Nobody disputes this. And but going hindsight as to what
that team needed or didn't need, would he have helped
the process or mighty have been a fly in the

(35:18):
ointment of what their secret sauce was?

Speaker 2 (35:21):
And I got the secret sauce.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
I think coming into the league being a rookie with
a lot of veterans and a Larry Brown, Hey whatever
you need, coach. But his time went on. But as
time went on, it would have been, hey, I need
to spread my wings and fly, coach. So after his
first contract he's gone, I just don't buy your wand
that he's accepting a lesser role, I think there would
have been an issue right off the joke.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
I don't think they have that title. Instead, you've got
Darko NBA Champion.

Speaker 1 (35:49):
We'll have more on Carmelo Anthony, but coming up next
DJ will the Lakers still be standing as they are
tied with five minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
