You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Thursday, the Jason Smith Show with
my base friend Mike Harmon. What's up? And already we're
off to a better start than we were last night
when I got the day wrong. So I feel much
good here. We are working at a higher capacity right now.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Mike Carmon, Well, I think the level and quality of
the games we were watching were higher than what we're
watching tonight. But you know what we take away what
it gives us. And here we are on a beautiful Thursday.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
We're live from the tirec dot Com studio, So tyreck
dot com, I'll help you get there. An unmatched selection,
fast free shipping, free road has a protection in over
ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrack dot com the way tire
buying should be well, here we are Game five where
the Heat and the close out that's a probably not
minutes gave Vincent game. Maybe Gabe Vincent is the MVP
(01:22):
I hear. Think about that, forget about Yo Kitchen MB.
Maybe Gabe Vincent is the MVP who.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Knew all this time under wraps kind of buried down
the depth chart in terms of your talking points. It's
the best kept secret in all of the NBA.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Gabe Vincent, of course, missing tonight's game with an ankle
injury for the Heat, one of their biggest players over
the course of the past couple of weeks, missing tonight
and as a result, the Heat are getting drubbed. One
forty five to go in the third quarter. The Celtics
lead it eighty four to sixty five. It's been a
big night for basically everybody in the starting five for
(01:59):
the Celtics. You have Tatum's got seventeen and seven assists
and six boards, and Jalen Brown's got nineteen, Smart's got seventeen.
They started this game on a twenty to five run
and it's one. Now. You know, it's the NBA, but
it's one of those games where I feel like when
you're playing a video game against somebody and you're all
hyped up and you start playing and the other person
just starts killing you, and you're like, okay, well this
(02:21):
is not and it's early in the we hit the reset,
but like, let's just start again. Let's come on this. Okay,
let's just let's just finish game five and move on
to game six, right like, this game is over, let
new game. Look at a new game in game six,
because this one's a twenty to five. Okay, this one's over.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Yeah, can somebody clap some more dust or can we
get someone to ride a unicycle across the court and
start over? Absolutely, just a miserable showing from the Miami
Heat all around that early explosion and Boston hitting from
the arc thirteen of twenty eight from three point range today,
(02:55):
Derek White five of seven, Smart's got three, Brown's got three.
If you have a trifecta bet there, you'd be paid
off handsomely. I mean, you already got four players in
the starting lineup with at least seventeen points and only
six off the bench.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
They don't even need those guys today. Let's get about
the Williamses. Listen, I'll give you those six points.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Okay, Miami, you could take those points, and we got
those six bench points, and I just they could just
blow up into thin air. We don't need them because
we're beating you by enough right now.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Well, and Brogden gets hurt early and you're like, well
that could loom large because you're expecting a run. It
is the NBA, after all, No run ever came, no
run ever came. It got to what thirteen at one point,
and then a bucket and then Missoula immediately calls time
out and then they ratcheted up another level.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Now, I'm glad you brought up Joe Mizzoula because that's
that's a very big deal. Here the Jays fire. Here's
the thing, because this is this is a big thing.
Is it Joe Mizzoula's fault still or no? Like I
don't know, because the Celtics are gonna win in seven
and look at the big comeback and look at them
coming back and they're winning big time. So is Joe
(04:08):
Miszula is still awful and he doesn't know what he's
doing and needs to be fired. I need he was
a super genius to three to zero, I need to
know this because I I've been told you know, when
when when people are searching for hot takes in between
every game and the NBA playoffs, Joe Mizzula is terrible.
He's the word. They have to fire him, and they
got to break up Brown and and and Tatum and
(04:28):
there's no way they can do it. And it's all
Joe Monzula's fault. He's not calling timeouts. But so he
has no impact? Is he like not coaching in these games?
That would happen, like did he get replaced? Well, that's why.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
They're working hard on the sideline. So I hope he's animated.
So he's certainly part of the mix.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Well.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
It also helps when over the last they just showed
the graphic over the last seven quarters from three point
ranger plus fifty four.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Uh for the heat.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
That'll help you win a game or two along the
way if the shots start falling, whether it's by design
or just happen stance that you know, the water finding
its weight, finding its level kind of thing. As a
you know, mixed terrible metaphors there, but the idea that
eventually they'd start hitting shots because they were the better
(05:14):
team in the regular season, But you know, it doesn't
take away from some of the mistakes or errors and
judgment and administration dereliction of duties that we had to
ask about in Missouri.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
No, now, wait a minute, now, wait a minute, though,
now hang on, now, it was so bad, like he
was awful, like they it was all his fault, Michael.
I've heard many people tell me that that this is
all Joe Mizzula's fault, even though the Celtics are still
playing and likely they're gonna be a live for Game
six again and it's a three to two series lead
for the Heat. But I know, I've been told so
many times it's his fault. He's awful, he's the worst,
(05:47):
he's got to go, he's out of his depth, he
doesn't know how to coach in the playoffs, he doesn't
know any of these things. I've been told. I've been
told that by many people, Mike carbon So, I just
want to know, is does he get any credit for tonight?
Is it still his fault? Forget? I don't know. I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Just always beware of groupthink and hot take nonsense. It's
an old adage of the show, and it's there the
only time I raised it as a question, is because
you do have a bunch of guys with pedigree that
are sitting around and trying to get their video resumes
together for any openings that might be available, so that
(06:22):
that's always just the curiosity. But from where we stand
right now, you know, the Brown Tatum thing was reportedly
an issue before we got the season started. Now, how
much of that is real versus imagine? It's just like
everybody hating each other with a member of the New
New England Patriots for the last couple of years. Just
because you get a book published and people start to
(06:43):
run with it doesn't make it necessarily.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
So they only won fifty seven games, they're only in
the Eastern Conference finals. They cannot get along with each Clearly,
once you get onto a court, they don't have to
like their music selections. Right.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
It's like people saying, I don't know what Jimmy Butler's
listening to behind the scenes. I don't get it, but
he's in charge. You know what's what you're actually out
on the court. It really doesn't matter what the hell
you're listening to in the back, now, does it. Likewise,
Brown and Tatum, they showed up for this one, But
you know, you take nothing away from the contribution Derek
White got things started in a big way early in
(07:17):
this one, uh and was huge for them last game.
So uh, you know a little bit of the fire
starter there. But yeah, Joe Missoulah, suddenly he looks a
lot smarter when you're only down three to two.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Right of course he does. Now now he's he's great.
Now he's Coach of the year. Now what I don't
know we were? I want to hear that speech he gave.
He was fantastic. What the hell's every speech? I'm sure
he gave a speech from the town. I'm sure he
just said whose car are we gonna take? I'm sure
I'm sure that's only did pretty good? Whatever that Ben,
you have everybody sit down and watched the town with him? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Yeah, comy, why do you always watch this movie? Well,
it's funny you should ask. You know, we're down three
to zero, backs against the wall. We feel like the
system has screwed us. Now we have an opportunity.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Isn't it about a bank robbery and people die and
it's they're really bad people? Well, yes, and this inspires you? Yes, okay,
got it?
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Well before every playoffs series, and certainly during the regular
season it's a little harder to get the turnaround. But
we can go in and through the magic of digital editing.
I mean, what do you think our video crew does.
They go in and put the faces of our opponents
against all the people that weren't trying to rob from
and people weren't trying to take down. So while we're
(08:25):
in action and we're watching and I pretend that we
are you know, Athletic and Company and Jeremy Renner, you know,
we were going up against Jimmy Butler and company in
the Town. John Hamm is Eric Spolstra.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Well, listen, John Hamm actually weighed in on this today
and he did. He did not seem like he was
a Celtics fan when when he talked about this, because
finally someone said, hey, you know this whole thing with
the Town and John Hamm, you were in it. You
weren't very good, but you you were in this movie
and and you know, what do you have to say?
And he talked about it, and you know, look, he's
a big Saint Louis fan, and he's a big Blues fan,
(09:01):
and you can just tell by hearing him talk about
his feelings for this, that he was one of those
guys like, yeah, I really really don't want the Celtics
to win. I really care about this. Here's this quote
from today. He was asked, Hey, what do you feel
about Missoula? You know the coach he watches the town
four times a week. Here he is quote, I didn't
(09:22):
know that. I hope I get a residual check every
time he watches it. That's what I'll say to that.
I know it's a very popular movie in Boston, and
we certainly had a good time making it. Okay, all right,
not bad so far? Because Erry, first he is, hey,
you know do I get money? Do I get money
anywhere I get money?
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Well? Who did you not like on this set that
you're gonna have that response to it? What happened to
you in Boston?
Speaker 1 (09:42):
Who hurt you? If I got a residual check? But
then he goes on to this, I hope it would
inspire them to a little better record than three to
one in the conference finals. But it's not done yet.
You gotta win four to win, so we'll see what happens. Hey,
I don't care, do you like the town? Celtics suck?
I hope you lose. I could never catch afflic It
(10:04):
was my fault. I trusted Rebecca Hall and she gave
that big sunny days line and it took me like
five minutes to figure it out and to tell we're
a national organization. Pack it up, guys, he's not coming. God,
it still burns me. It still burns my butt that
we didn't catch him. I hope Boston loses. I hope
they lose. I go down in flames. Sounds about right. Yeah,
(10:25):
it's a little bit of bitterness there sometimes, you know,
you just someone asked the right question. You gotta let
it out. Boy that I just love that he's so
chapped about this. It's great. Hope I get money. I
hope they'd be better than down three to one? Is
that good?
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Is that you're gonna ask me any good smart ass line?
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Though? Are you done? Are you done? Are you done?
You know what we're gonna have to do tonight if
they win tonight, which they're holding on to win.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
If they don't, there's really we're gonna burn it all down.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
We're gonna he kidding me, We're gonna have to do
like the top five movies that take place in Boston, okay,
because you know, there's been a run the last ten
years where every third movie takes place in Boston. You know,
not sure Mark Wahlberg does all his movies there, but
like it's like Boston's become like, oh, we gotta have
movies here, like like okay, wait a minute, now, Boston
(11:16):
when to turn into New York and Los Angeles. But
like Boston the last ten or twelve years has become
it's got to be in Boston. It's got to be
in Boston. So we got to do like the top
five movies that take place in Boston. Well do We'll
take care of that there. And I will say this,
I will say that right not to give you, but
I'm think, you know, thinking about this right now, I
will say I'll have a hard time believing The Town
is not on that list because The Town is an
(11:36):
excellent movie. It really is.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Really I think because of John ham I think he
convinced me I want my dollar back.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Yeah, well, lit's sen John Hamm was not great in
this movie. Let let's just let's just realize that John
Hamm is not great. He wasn't.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
John Hamm is not Someone's gotta be last on the rankings.
I mean, in terms of performances. It's his performance. You
want to talk about John Hamm's performance. The guy was
worse than everybody else in the movie. His performance, Come on,
he did.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Jeremy Runner's been nominated for three Academy Awards, the Guys
three Academy Award nominations. John Ham's performance, you're talking, Uh No,
he wasn't very good. John Ham's not not a good
dramatic actor. I'm sorry, hot take. Not a good dramatic actor.
I'm sorry, very funny comedic actor. Not good dramatic actor.
He's not. He was just kind of there. Even even
the most staunchest of people watching the movie, going, you know,
(12:22):
I really hope the bank robbers get what's coming to them,
because they're causing a lot of conflict and people are
dying everything just watching John Hamm, you go, I hope
they outsmart him. I really hope they do. I really
hope he doesn't catch He doesn't deserve to catch him.
He didn't deserve to spot Jeremy Renner that quickly walking
the other way when all these cops are walking in.
He didn't. I really hope they died, Really hope they
(12:42):
outsmart John Ham. I'm not rooting for him at all.
I mean, you weren't rooting for Pete postaweight, but you
really weren't rooting for John Ham.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Yeah, but you always liked seeing Pete posta wait, rest
the piece uh up on the movie, give it some
extra gravitas.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Oh hey, look, hey, Pete Postawait's great actor. He was
a great actor. I love the Postily was better in
thirty Rock, Yes, because he was funny. He was funny
when he kept cutting his fingers off of thirty Rocks.
He's a doctor and he couldn't. He just kept cutting
his different parts of his body up during operations. That happens.
(13:17):

falling through the pit like darth Ball at the end
of Phantom Meta. Ah, this is how far back into
the sea on the anniversary return of the Jedi sho
Bad Team, Worst Villain. Oh so yeah, this team is
so dives to teas it to tease one teams falling
so far back and it is the Raiders, Yes, with

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike
Harmon Live from the tie iraq dot com studios. Where
here we are eight and a half to go in
the fourth quarter and the Celtics lead the heat ninety
six to seventy eight. Looks like we're gonna get a
game six back in Miami. All the pressure on Miami,
(15:27):
and you know, you know what, I love, Mike. This
is this my funny, you know, just just to take
you a little bit, peel the curtain back a little
bit here with everybody every time, with everyone you watch
on TV, listen to radio and all. This is this
is really fun because during the NBA Playoffs, so many
TV shows and a lot of radio shows run out
(15:49):
of topics to talk about. They run out of NBA
topics to talk about because so many people are so
worried about declaring a series is over or or having
some kind of definitive take when it's one nothing in
a series and nothing is going to change, and every
game that it changes, it becomes a difficult thing because, oh,
(16:14):
I said it was over after it was too ziping'.
Oh what do I do now? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
It's new Information's new information. I'm allowed to change.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Listen to you, but.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Just look, you threatens to quit his job after you.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
See so many people. And it only is the NBA
playoffs because everything else is kind of is kind of
immune to it. Because the NFL, you play one game
a week and you have it, and then you know
that goes for a whole week or however long it is,
and there's another playoff game and something happens. You move
on to another story. With Major League Baseball, in the playoffs,
games are every night. There's no one night two nights
(16:51):
in between games. Hey boy, this happened tonight. Well things
change the next night or something. So there's not a
lot of time. There's not a lot of time in
between games. But when you come to the NBA, it
is okay, some team wins Game one by thirty and
it's this series is over and I'll tell you why.
And this guy needs to be traded, miss coaches terrible.
(17:12):
And then it's two games to none and it's oh, yeah,
I told you, and this is happening, and this is
going on and this guy really needs to get fired.
Doubling down and everything is great, fire and Brimstone, and
then the series changes and then it's, oh, wait a minute,
Oh what whoa in a minute?
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Now?
Speaker 1 (17:27):
I said it was over and it's not. We're going on.
How do I still be true to what I'm talking
about and still be someone who told you the game
was over? And the NBA playoffs get increasingly difficult for
so many hosts to talk about. You watch, you watch
now the Celtics winning this game. You watch tomorrow on TV,
(17:48):
listen to the radio, whatever you do during the day,
listen to that watch and you'll see so many people
just now trying to ride the middle of the of
the the middle on everything. Oh boy, this would be
a comeback by the Celtics out the Heat still have
the lead. Meanwhile, three days ago it was the Heat
are the greatest team, and the Celtics suck, and Missoula sucks,
and Brown sucks and Tatum sucks and he's not a
(18:11):
leader at all. This everybody sucks. Watch tomorrow how much
down the Middle everybody is that you watch on TV
list of the radio? Just watch because now they don't
know what to say. They don't know what to say
because they're so beholden to Hey, let me have something
really hot on the NBA. And you know, look, I
love a hot take as much as everybody else, and
(18:32):
I hey, certainly we have our fair share, you know,
But you know other times it's okay, you know, yeah,
I get your hot take, but you sure this is
how it's gonna go. You sure's And if it's not,
are you gonna wear it? Are you gonna wear it?
And trust me, nobody wants to wear it. Nobody does.
So you watch tomorrow all the hate and and derision
(18:53):
for the Celtics the last couple of days. You watch, now,
how down the middle everybody is on it's gonna be well, Hey,
Thisics are always a more talented team. And the heater,
you know, the heater mill, forget the heater missing Tyler
hero you know, suddenly, hey, he's a big guy. They're
missing here. Wait wait, but they were just up three
to nothing and they got through two rounds of the playoffs.
Without them. Now suddenly they're missing Tyler Roll. Wait a minute,
Wait a minute, wait a minute. You watch because this
(19:15):
is when everybody is scrambling. There are people who are
gonna go on TV tomorrow morning going I don't know
what I'm gonna say. I don't know what I'm gonna
What am I gonna say? I have no idea, I
have no idea. The Celtics won. I can't believe this
is happening. I don't know what to say. Can we
talk about Lebron? Let's talk about Lebron and say let's
do a couple of seconds on the Celtics heat game
and say, hey, game six coming up back, and let's
talk about Lebron. Let's talk about something else other than this.
Because there is such a big swing from game to
(19:38):
game in the NBA Playoffs that when you watch and
listen on TV, it's everything is great or everything is
in the toilet, and there's no in between. And in
a series, this is kind of what happened sometimes. Yeah,
the Celtics are the more talented team. Their effort level
was really low at times during the series. The one
thing you could say about the Heat was their effort
(19:58):
level was above every everybody else's. It was above the Bucks.
The Bucks never played with a sense of urgency. The
Knicks didn't play with the sense of urgency. They needed you.
They didn't play with the belief that they could win
those games. Julius Randall was terrible. It was a lot
going on, and Julius Randall was terrible. They had a
lot happening in those first rounds and Julius Randall was
really really bad. And then here in this round of
(20:19):
the playoffs, the Celtics had a couple of games where
their effort level stunk, and especially where it bottomed out
in game three. But now here they are, Hey, wait
a minute, Game four, in game five, they're the better team.
They're winning big all of a sudden. Looking at game six,
oh wait a minute, wait a minute, trust me, so
many nervous people, and do that experiment, do that listen
and watch tomorrow, and you see how many how many
(20:41):
intent instead of fire and brimstone. It's you know, can
the Celtics do it? Someone's gonna do Oh good, they do. Yeah,
they could see. Heater's still in controls here. Just watch,
it's gonna be down the middle. It's gonna be down
the middle radio and TV tomorrow just watch.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Well look it.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
They opened the door.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
The heat had had them, and they let them off
the hook. Go all Dennis screen if you need to,
and look a lot of that. What you say is true,
And that's the beauty and the horror of a day
to day radio or TV show, because if you only
work once a week, or do one or two shows
(21:20):
a week, you know, there's a long period in between takes,
and you don't have to get up after the next
game and be like, well, all right, let's get after
it again.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Lord, did I say yesterday we did? We did what?
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Yeah, it's it's certainly some of that. I'd like to
think that, you know, accountability.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
If it take ages terribly, I'll wear it.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
You know, what is it? Cold takes, old takes? Whatever,
come come at me, bro, I don't care, because the
show is done in the four hour window in which
we operate tonight. And if a team can go out
and get a win or string together a couple of
wins and get back in the series, all the better.
Who's won, We've all won, and my take, your take,
(22:02):
anybody's take, really doesn't matter. A whole hell of a
lot but in the moment when things are melting down,
you don't go, eh, well, let's.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
See how it turns out. I'll write my take for next.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Week and just be right, no, no, no, But I'm just saying,
like from the not to defend hot take nonsense. But
down three to zero, the questions are you are the
number two seed? The road opened up with Miami taking
down Milwaukee, and legitimately the before the series talking points
(22:36):
are who's stepping up in the absence as you go
to the next round. It's one thing to get through
the first Okay, everything worked, he got through the knicks, okay,
And then you get to this round. It's like, all right, well,
how does it stack up? And notice how much footage
we've seen of Tyler Hero. Here's what he looks like
on the bench. Here he is, he's been clear for
(22:58):
some basketball work, so let's show him shooting and doing
his drills and everything else. So you know, yeh had
all those talking points. From where we sit, it's the
you're still up three to two, and you're going back
home finish the damn job, Like I'm not suddenly going
is the door open? Sure? Were they the better team
in the regular season. Fine, but we can't talk about
(23:21):
at least for you and I and I can't defend
or try to explain what happens in meeting rooms for
other folks.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
But for me, it's like I'm not going back.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
It's like the regular season matters to a point and
then you go and play with who's with you, Which
is why anybody that was doing all the Laker talk
not to make it about them, but let's throw them
into the mix about all of the this is what
happened in the regular season, here there, wherever the lebron
James well, now he threw shams. He confirms the you know,
(23:52):
torn tendon in the foot. It's like we knew that,
we were told that a long time ago. This isn't news,
but let's make sure we push it out through an
inside again today to remind folks, hey, look how superhuman
I was. It's all about changing the narrative and trying to,
you know, do some vegas misdirection.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Some folks get led us straight.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Not us, no, no, no, Bulldoggedly, I'm putting my head
down and I'm staying with the take, and if it
ages terribly, I'll wear it. We are you gonna throw
me out for a bad take. I'll be the last
guy out the door for hot eggs.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
So just so you know, just something to watch. Trust me,
trust me, trust me tomorrow all day. That's what you're
gonna see. It's gonna be like the Magic Johnson Twitter game.
Just vanilla stuff down the middle. We'll start on this
coating from the box score. We'll let more on this
game coming up in a few minutes when Steve de
Saga brings us what's trending. But as promised, a team
that is today woke up and you just said, really, really,
(24:52):
just a double barrel of dysfunction involving the Raiders. Yeah much.
First you had Davante Adams, who had a press conference
today on the heels of a comment he made in
an interview in The Athletic last week. Now, the big
comment we got that we paid attention to last week
(25:13):
was Davante Adams saying, hey, he really wanted to make
first team All Pro to show he didn't need Aaron Rodgers,
and that was what he was very excited about. Right,
We talked about that, But he also said that hey,
right now, me and the Raiders don't see eye to
eye about the direction of the team, and he's worried that, hey,
he's seeing his football mortality in front of him. He's
on you know, going to be on the wrong side
of thirty now this season, so he doesn't see eye
(25:34):
to eye on the direction of the Raiders. Well, Josh
McDaniel said today, Hey, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen. It's
I love Davante. Want to make sure it's all good.
And yeah, he said what he said, and I'm okay
with Davante saying and speaking his mind.
Speaker 5 (25:51):
Tay and I have a great relationship. I know he
does with Dave as well, and he's here every day.
And I didn't read the whole thing, so I don't
really know exactly, you know, every nook and cranny of that.
But I don't think there's much drama here in terms of,
you know, my relationship, his relationship with us, the way
he works, the way he goes about his business. Obviously
(26:13):
had a great year last year, and just looking forward
to year two.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
Yeah, yeah, listen, I know I'm coming into a press conference,
I'm gonna get asked about something. I specifically didn't look
at it, so I could just say, yeah, don't know
what's going on. So you had that where DeVante Adams
questions the direction of the Raiders and Josh McDaniel says, yes,
he has every right to. My relationship with him is great.
Then you had Darren Waller, who was traded from the
Raiders to the Giants earlier this offseason, and he talked
(26:39):
about how much he likes life with the Giants because
when he speaks, the Giants listen to him.
Speaker 6 (26:45):
They value our opinions here. And you know, as a player,
I feck a lot of places I've gone. It's you know,
you're you're told to do things a certain way, and
you and you do those things, and but here it's
like they ask a lot of questions. They want to
know what you're thinking, what do you like to do more,
and sort of offer inputs. A really cool thing because,
you know, coach, the players got to be in partnership.
(27:06):
We're all together and shouldn't be classing with each other.
It's all we're all going in the same direction.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
This is why the Raiders are on my never again list.
This is why just think about the dysfunction they deal
with where a star player and a former star player
both find the time to say, yeah, I don't know
what's going on over there. I mean that's been the constant.
I mean that either the Raiders don't have a plan
or they follow the wrong one, all right, I mean,
(27:32):
this is the Raiders. They can't they can't get right,
no matter what kind of leadership they have in there. Right,
they let McKenzie run the team for eight years. They
were forty and seventy two. I mean, how do you
keep the job that long when your team is forty
and seventy two? But he did. How is booting Derek
Carr for Jimmy Garoppolo the plan? Now, you tell me
that was really the plan? Or is your plan going?
Maybe we'll get Brady, maybe we'll get Aaron Rodgers, but
(27:54):
let's make sure we get rid of Derek Carr and
let's make it so bad that we have to divorce
ourselves from him, and he's going to leave the team
with two games left to go on the season and
we still have a chance to make the playoffs. I mean, really,
this is the plan, This is the plan. I want
to know what the daily life is like with the Raiders.
I want all access pass, some kind of documentary because
I just feel like, it's just filled with so much
(28:16):
dysfunction and ridiculousness that you'd be exhausted at the end
of every day you had to work and live with
the Raiders because this is who they are again. They
either have no plan or they follow a ridiculous plan.
And the one constant begin at all of this is
Mark Davis. Right, He's the one you can sit here
and say, oh, well, well, this GM didn't work, this
coach didn't work, this quarterback dur The one consonant is
(28:36):
Mark Davis. And you see the direction of the Raiders.
It's got to be so incredibly frustrating that this is
where they are. That you have a guy show up
who made All Pro and was everything you wanted. And
what's the first big thing he said about the team? Yeah,
we don't see eye to eye in the direction of
the team. Wait what, Okay, I understand that, But why
the hell would you bring DeVante Adams in and give
up so much for him if you're gonna try to
(28:58):
start over somewhere quarterback with a guy that he liked
that got him to first team All Pro again, the
Raiders can't help but get out of their own way.
They are riddled with dysfunction. It's like they're a Swiss
cheese of dysfunction and every hole is a little bit
of dysfunction and they're never gonna get out of it.
And this is who they've been since the team's been
run by Mark Davison from twenty ten till now. This
(29:20):
is the rape. It's why they're on my never again
list because they can't escape this. Mic.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Well, just remember, there ain't no good guys. There ain't
no bad guys. There's only you and me. We just disagree.
And so in the dysfunction of this, maybe Tom Brady,
once they approve him full on as an owner, he
could just rest control of things and eventually take over
from Mark Davis the bloodless coup in Las Vegas. But
(29:47):
in the interim, yeah, no matter who's in charge as
a coach or in front office, there's always seems to
be dysfunction and chaos. And this goes back to the
ending years of al Let's call it what it is,
right with the way draft boards had to look, who's
the fastest guy out of forty what do we do
that for?
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Exactly?
Speaker 3 (30:07):
Get him here? Can he catch? Doesn't matter? He can
outrun everybody. It's like, what are you gonna do? Put
glue on him to where if it just hits him,
it sticks. I mean, come on, so when we look
at the roster contruction, now you're in a division where
you got to assume Denver's gonna be better. Russell Wilson's
lean and mean and talking about weight loss and focus,
(30:29):
and Sean Payton told him get rid of all this nonsense.
The Chargers, well, we expect them to be good again.
And then Kansas City just keeps the machine moving. So
to shuffle up and deal away from Derek Carr. Whether
you liked him or not, you kind of knew what
he was. Jimmy Garoppolo, that's the second half of the
story coming out of the Las Vegas world. I mean,
(30:51):
who's actually quarterback.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
For you to start the season.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Who's throwing the ball to Devonte Adams and company? So yeah,
just one after another, And and it's funny with Darren Waller.
He hasn't been in it. He has been a well
traveled guy at this point, but spent a long time
with the Raiders, So it's pretty easy to just kind
of point and say, well, he obviously didn't get to
give any input on whether he should have been target
(31:15):
because remember we always wondered why didn't he see the
ball war in red zone situations? So I think that
was his way of saying, yeah, I tried to say
I was open. I tried to tell them to design
more plays for me, to go at, post up down
the nah, forget about it.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
So yeah, it's it's the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
I mean, look, just like you're hoping for new things
from the Jets. Don't you really cringe every time you
see Aaron Rodgers name trending?
Speaker 1 (31:41):
No, because I know he's he said something incredibly wise
about the Jets. No, no, no, I love it when
he trends Now. Now he's why he's happy.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Everything is just great, just saying now that he is
shet though historically, since you and I have been alive,
and since social media, long before it became a thing,
let's call it what it is. Nope, new day babes
start becoming stories. Then normally something terrible is happening.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
Nope, new day, Mike Carmen, new day. Not for the Raiders.
They're always going to be This is why there again,
why they're on my never again list. This is this
is all you should need. Okay, well, you had a
former player say they don't listen to me and a
current player saying, we don't see eyd eye. That's great,
right now, let's find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports with special DELIVERI steve to Seger because
(32:28):
nobody's scored more tonight than the Mets against the Cubs SD.
What do you have for us?
Speaker 7 (32:34):
Well, Miami was in the running for a little while
and then they finally got on the board and passed
the Mets. But yeah, Miami Heat were down twenty to
five in the first quarter at Boston tonight. They're now
in the final forty seconds of this game. Mercifully, Celtic's
up one, ten to ninety seven. There will be a
Game six, apparently in the East Finals Saturday night in Miami,
because the Heat will be leading three games to two
(32:56):
in the series. Now, each team is shooting over fifty
percent from the floor. The Celtics have thirteen steals in
this game, and four Boston starters have scored over twenty
points each, led by Derek White with twenty four and
Marcus Smart with twenty three points. Again, they're in the
final seconds of this game at Boston. NBA Finals won't
begin until June first, by the way, next Thursday. Stanley
(33:19):
Cup West Final Game four is going to overtime tonight
at Dallas Stars in Vegas. Tied two to two. The
Dallas Stars are zero to four in overtime so far
this postseason. A Golden Knights goal will win the series.
They're already up three games to none. Florida waits in
the Stanley Cup Final after its swept Carolina Raiders. Quarterback
Jimmy Garoppolo had a foot operation in March after signing
(33:41):
with the team. The Lions acquired kicker Riley Patterson from Jacksonville.
The Jaguars signed kicker Brandon McManus to Major League Baseball.
One late game, the Oakland A's are winning. We should
have led with that. Two to one is the lead
at Seattle. It's not is It's still early though. C
The Eight Thinks are in the Oakland A's trying to
(34:01):
end the seven game losing shitten.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
They're ten and forty. They win one out of every
five games one night a week. Steve de Seger, you
you you tell us about the A's winning a game.
That's kind of how they've been.
Speaker 7 (34:13):
Okay, it's ten and forty one actually, but yeah, you
take the wins when you got them. They're winning the
first half of the game. San Francisco a five nothing
winner at Milwaukee. Baltimore beat the Yankees three to one
in New York, and wins for Atlanta eight five over
Philly and the Mets, who won ten to one of
the Cubs Pete Alonzo with his nineteenth home run of
the season Andres Homer in the ninth to win at
(34:36):
Washington eight six, and Tampa Bay won again six '
three over Toronto. It is now an NBA final. Celtics
won ten ninety seven over the Heat. There will be
a game six Saturday night. Beg deep.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
Thanks a run, Steve O. At the end of your
first year, Discover credit cards automatically double all the cash
back here and that's right, everything you were in doubled.
Seriously see terms. Check it out for yourself at Discover
dot com. Slash match. Well, Boston has beaten Miami one,
ten ninety seven. Game six Saturday night. How is Game
six going to go? Mike and I will tell you
(35:08):
coming up next right here, Jason and Mike, this is
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon Live from the tire rack dot Com Studios,
where we just watched the Celtics extend the series to
Game six. Down Oh no, now it's three two. They
roll over the Heat one ten to ninety seven to
set up Game six Saturday in Miami. Now, as I
(35:46):
told you tomorrow, you're gonna get takes all kinds of
down the middle on this because I said the Heat
were so great. Now, what am I gonna do? I
want to leave it open for the Celtics winning. Oh
watch TV list of the radio during the day, You're
gonna see Vanilla Vanilla takes everywhere. This is kind of
This game was kind of a throwback game in the
(36:07):
way it used to be in the playoffs, when a
team did what they needed to do on the road
and when things weren't going their way in a game
in a series which they lead three to one, three
to zero, they kind of put it away early, right
the Heat were up three to one. All Right, we
lost our chance to close them out at home. All Right,
(36:29):
We're gonna go back to Boston. If things go our
way early, great, but if not, we're just gonna not
expend a lot of energy and we're gonna get ready
for Game six, which is on our floor. We don't
have one of our best players tonight. Gabe Vincent isn't there.
And we used to see this a lot in the
NBA playoffs, where a team would say, hey, we're already up.
We do we need to do. We're on the road,
we're gonna give this game away and get into an
(36:50):
all or nothing situation when we're back at our place.
That's kind of how the Heat proceeded with this game.
The Boston Celtics got out to a twenty to five lead,
and the Heat just said, okay, that's good. Yeah, we're
not gonna get blown out. We're not gonna go crazy
trying to come back where they were a team that
looked like they were very they were very much okay
with this being a Celtics victory, and let's just roll
(37:12):
through and not have guys play a ton of minutes
and not worry about guys playing overly so much. Let's
do that and let's go back home and get ready
for Game six. And that's kind of what I saw
the Heat doing. And I'll be honest, Game six is
gonna be a different day. I give the Celtics all
the credit in the world for getting up off the
mat after they lost the first three games. It could
have easily quit when everybody wanted, Missoula fired and Tatum
(37:35):
and Brown broken up. Game six is gonna be a
different story. The Heat are gonna be at home. Their
bench is gonna play really well. They're they're due for
one of those Jimmy Buckets takes over games, and they
get something from Duncan Robinson, they get something from Martin
who's been really good off the bench anyway. Maybe Vincent
is back. Saturday will be a different game for the Heat.
(37:55):
You're gonna see them in an all or nothing game
and they will win again. The Celtics to put four
games in a row together, I don't see it. They're
two up and down. They're two jekylin Hyde. They've not
been able to do it all playoff. It's been a
good last couple of games. I'm glad they stepped up
and they said, we don't want to go home just yet.
We're gonna put the effort out there. Game six will
be a different story. I'm going with the Heat.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Yeah, I'm not flinching pick the Heat when we started
this merrygo round, so I can't jump off now because
of a couple of bad efforts. Never thought we'd be
calling it the Vincent Game. But we didn't think we'd
have the Lonnie Walker the fourth game over in the
West either. So we've got, you know, a situation whereby
(38:36):
it's curious to see what Spolster and the Heat can
bring up in terms of defensive adjustments because the last
couple of games open looks and making them pay time
and again the Celtics shooting so well from three point
range on a straight shooting percentage. The Heat actually ended
up with a better shooting percentage today. But the Celtics
(38:58):
make sixteen to three, and Steven his update was talking
about the number of thirteen steals and the Heat had
sixteen turnovers, so you saw it get away early, so
that meant at a bio and Butler played what thirty
two and thirty four minutes respectively and shut it down.
(39:19):
So Spolstro lived to see another day. Hopefully Vincent's back.
We'll see if suddenly there's a surprise of Tyler Hero
suddenly finding his way back into the mix. Here if
Dwayne Wade could come back. You know, hey, here's Alonso
Morning running in the post. I don't know, crazy things happened.
Here's Alonzo Morning.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
Yay Zo is back.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
All of a sudden, he's in there throwing elbows and
taking guys out. But this is a game that got
away fast, and despite best efforts in the middle of
the second quarter, that gap really never narrowed. So live
to fight another day. You still have the lead, and
you go back home.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Twitter, and how about a Fresco Mike get swollen Dome
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
Uh yeah, I think we'll see a three to zero
comeback at some point. I really can't see this. At
four games in a row, they're gonna put together like
you don't believe in Joe Missoula. It's gonna be too hard.
But apparently I know now it's not his fault. Apparently
he can coach a little bit. I guess it's not
(40:18):
all his feet got him off the mat. Maybe they
all watch the town. Coming up next, Hey, we'll talk
to one of our big NBA insiders covering the East
and Western Conference finals. What does he see ahead on Saturday?
What does he see ahead in the finals. Keep it
right here, that's next. This is Fox Sports Radio
