(00:48):
dot com. The way tire buying should be So tonight
we watch something that maybe should have been a little
bit predictable. The Celtics get out to a twenty to
five lead over the heat, and the heat say okay,
back it up, gun almost see in game six on Saturday.
Here to damn Towell. It's like when you're playing we're
(01:09):
playing a video game against a friend of yours and
you're playing a game and he just starts killing you
like right off the bat, and you're like, I'm not
gonna make this close. Reset that, start again. Starting? Why
did the reason? But I was killing you? Yeah, I'm good,
start again, Just start again and start again. That's kind
of what I wanted to do today. As soon as
the Celtics got out to a twenty to five lead,
I knew there's no way the Heat are gonna try
to expend energy to come back. It's too late in
(01:30):
the playoffs. They're gonna save their legs. No guys are
gonna play big time minutes, and they're gonna be ready
to go back for Game six at home on Saturday.
That's exactly what happened. So in that event predictable, I'm
not surprised the Celtics won tonight. Coming in, I knew
we would get one thing. If the Celtics came out
and they were big early, they would win the game.
(01:51):
The Heat would put it away. If they didn't, the
Heat would say, Okay, we got a chance to get
to the NBA Finals tonight. But the Celtics came out,
they played great. I give him a lot of credit
getting off the matt from down three too. I don't
think it's gonna matter, because I've told you the Heat
are gonna win Saturday and they're gonna go on to
the NBA Finals. But I give the Celtics a lot
of credit for coming back when they could have just
said we're done at three zip and we're going to
(02:12):
the offseason. There's gonna be changes.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Well, given how miserably that Game three performance was and
how well it was received across the sporting landscape. You
want to talk about the poison pen being out for everybody,
fractured relationship, more rumors, anonymous sources about the locker room
strive Joe Missoula, Hahaha, he watches the town. That's what
(02:38):
he's wasting his time on because he does it four times.
Like that was not a positive story at that point.
It was part of a punch. Fine, that's what he's
doing eight eight and a half nine hours a week.
I know, like all of it came together as all right,
he have the Celtics as the number two seed, fifty
seven game winner, and that Game three performance was so dismal, right,
(03:01):
because we did the compare and contrast with the Lakers. Right, hey,
look at least the Lakers showed up. Was a lot
of the narrative, it's like a loss is a loss.
That's great, you tried hard, you get a try hard award.
I don't think that's how this works. I think a
win is a win, is a loss as a loss,
and if you lose, you go back to the drawing board.
And for the Celtics, professional pride shots falling.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Whatever.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
The basketball gods smiled upon them and went against all
the betters that had sweeps in the NHL and NBA
because they're fun haters and didn't want to see extra
games played. Whatever the case may be, everything flowed together
and now we're at three to two, and for this game,
I gotta say I did throw my remote control and discuss.
(03:47):
Not because I've picked the Heat to go to the
NBA Finals, but just all right, it's one of those games.
As soon as it got to twenty to five, it's
like you just throw it up. All right, there's another
bad turnover, there's a terrible shot.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
You can't get a good offensive set. When you're down
like this, you're gonna just rush to check. You realize
it's the first quarter and you're like four minutes in.
What are we doing? So Mike Hartman was not happy
you would have been like Greg Popovitch calling a time
out at the first after the first possession. Oh, Popvitch
doesn't like what that first possession was, Like you're about
it's just like from an entertainment value and knowing it
(04:21):
was going to be a focal point of what you
and I do here, as we talk about all the time.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
There's a lot of stories floating around in the sporting universe,
but in our window, games end games are in progress,
so we comment and analyze and give you the first
blush on the good, the bad, the ugly in each
of them. And this got ugly fast. Right, they're hitting shots.
They're not missing from three point range. They hit sixteen
(04:48):
did Boston. Over the course of the night. They shot
forty one percent from three point range. They made more
three point shots than they made free throws today.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
This gets into where we're going to be after this weekend,
right was Look, I'm telling you I like the heat
in Game six. Bad feeling about him today, good feeling
about him Saturday at home, Jimmy Butler, watch, it's gonna
be one of those forty five point Game six playoff
Jimmy performance. Is the heat gonna go to the finals,
but wearing the Cachuck jersey today. Come on, man, I
(05:24):
don't need you to remind me of that. I don't
need you to remind me of that last night.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Come on, hey, that was yesterday. Today's start. Man, I
can break rank and not wear that in the sweater.
I don't need to be reminded of Matthew coul chok another. Look,
you could chok another goal at the end of the game.
I don't need that. I don't I don't need that.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
I really, man, you watched a superstar in the making.
I stop. I watched a guy get lucky three times
in a series. Come on, man, that's what I watched.
I watched my team go down a week. Oh he's
got lucky. He just got lucky. That's all us. But
let's just say for arguments, say because I'm telling you
the Heat are gonna win. But let's just say, for
(06:03):
argument's sake, the Celtics come back seven games, they wind
up beating the Heat. We get the whole heart of
a champion from the Celtics. And oh, hey, maybe we
were too hasty on Joe Mizula. Maybe Joe Mizula is
a good coach. And hey, I'm sorry, Joe, I'm sorry
we called for your firing, that you didn't know what
you were doing and you're a bad fit. And somehow
(06:23):
they won fifty seven games and got all the way
to the NBA Finals despite the fact near their head coach.
Let's say that actually happens. It makes no difference whether
it's the heat or the Celtics. I'm telling you right now,
I'm picking the Nuggets in four. I don't see how
either team gets a game from Denver the way they're playing. Certainly,
(06:45):
could there be something happens. Jokic could get hurt, Murray
could get hurt. But if you're talking about this Nuggets
team that's now gonna have, you know, four weeks off
in between games to get healthy and be ready to go,
and you have this game where hey, and I'm sorry,
but it's a thing in the NBA playoffs. You could
go back and forth and say, well, the team gonna
be having the layoff is gonna be rusty, the team
(07:07):
that's just played is gonna be a little bit. But no,
this is the end of the NBA playoffs. When players
are dragging, everybody is dread. It's why the Lakers are
home now and not playing because they're just too old
and they ran out of gas against a younger, more
athletic team. That's what happens. It's what happens in every
playoff now. It's why it's hard to see Heys Kevin
Durant really gonna be healthy all the way through it. No,
(07:28):
the guys are too old. It's a big thing now,
and you're talking about a young team that's gonna be
off for a long time, versus either the Heat coming
back or trying to stave off the Celtics in this
or the Celtics doing everything they can to come back
and win in seven games and playing every other night. Yeah,
neither of these teams is getting a game against the Nuggets.
I'm saying right now, I'm saying Nuggets in four, no
(07:50):
matter who comes out of the East, whatever the situation is,
Nuggets in a sweep. Wow, I won't go that far.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
I do believe they win, but I think both teams
in the East they can get one. All right, there's
always that one let down, And as we've seen, the
Celtics didn't win fifty seven games by accident, right, it's
the Heinz fifty seven kind of thing game.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
I think they did. Joe Mizzoula was the coach they
won by accident.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
What though, Jason, there's to get into the Missoula just momentarily.
We've got a lot of guys that win regular season
games in every sport. We got a lot of quarterbacks
that are called the greatest of all time. They're on
that list, and then they can't win and perform in
the playoffs. We certainly see that with coaches exit Doc Rivers,
(08:39):
who's now evidently a finalist for the Suns. Look with that,
But to your point about you know time space and
where you have opportunity to go win counting on next
year or saying well we're in well positioned down the road.
It's a conversation we've had this week. Folks can check
the podcast Jason Smith Show with me Mike in wherever
(09:00):
you get your audio.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
The larger thing. He's like, no, no, no, that's.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
My mom saving all sorts of cool cutlery and cook
wear for good. Hey, we bought your machine that'll help
you cut the cooking time in half.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
No, no, da will just save that for good.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Well, you never invited anybody or had an event to
where good happened, so it ended up getting donated. Hopefully
the next person used it well, but we sure as
hell didn't oftentimes. But for the Nuggets, yeah, they're they're
in a great spot. I don't know why you had
to put the injury out there for them now, I mean,
that's just cruel of you. But the reality is certainly there.
(09:37):
I mean, Jokic could be riding around in a sulky
on a harness track somewhere and get his foot caught
in a stirrup, you.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Know, I mean, you have no idea. Now, you can't
get men. You can't get mad at me and say no,
you put the injury and you and you're actually describing
an injury. I gave him a stirrup.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Well, if you're gonna go that way, I'm gonna give
you the specificist in general terms.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
But you can't get mad at me and say I
can't believe you put that out there. Then say what
if it was this very specific injury that I'm going
to outline right, and you can't get mad at me
for that.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
I just wanted to show my love of harness racing
while I was at an in concert with the Jokic family.
But the fact is that you've got a squad that's
performing really well. Right, you've got it's a seven player
sometimes you get that eighth man in rotation that Michael Malone.
Mike Malone has rolling, and guys like CACP and Aaron
(10:26):
Gordon have just been fantastic. And for the for the
heat is Gabe Vis isn't going to be one hundred
percent either Saturday or into the next round. For Boston,
are you going to get the kind of contribution and
three point shooting? I mean the last two games, I mean,
they've been shooting out of their minds and today was
certainly one of one of those games where it's like,
(10:49):
all right, they're just throwing stuff up there. I think
on the broadcast they started joking about throwing up beach
balls with you know, like the rim when the the
size right and scope the old euphemisms about how big
the rim and the basket looks when you're in a
zone that there was no looking back, and even when
(11:10):
there was a little bit of pressure applied by the
heat late in the second quarter, that was not sustained
for long. So Missoula, love them or hate them, you
do have a pretty talented squad. So I don't think
they go down in a sweep, but certainly you've got
a machine working in Denver right now that it's hard
(11:30):
to hard to pick against them, hard to make an
argument against them, barring something catastrophic.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
It is. Look, they're just like I'm going back to
the beginning of the playoffs and what I've said about
them from the beginning. If they don't win the title
this year, they're never gonna do it. This is their
year to do it, and they have everything going their way.
Everybody is healthy, their stars are playing like stars, their
support players are playing well enough, and they have everything
going their way. They were able to beat teams that
(11:58):
were flawed. They're gonna face a flawed team in the
finals that is tired coming in because no matter who
it is, they're gonna be tired. The heat would have
love to have that extra time off, but we're not
gonna get that now. It's it's everything is, everything is going.
It's like here it is, and I get that. That's
gonna be pressure because the Nuggets for saying, hey, you
really should win, and they're gonna be told, hey, you
should win, you should whin you should win. Michael Malone's
(12:21):
gonna get his wish. Oh, people are spending too much
time talking about us. I don't want people to talk
about us anymore. We were not talking about us enough.
Now I don't want them talking about us at all.
Just watch the pressure when you get to the NBA Finals.
The Denver Nuggets want it, Michael Malone wants it. Well,
guess what it's gonna be there, and this is the year.
It's the one thing that I can think can cause
them to have genuary hands. But in the end, it's
(12:43):
not gonna be It's not gonna be enough. Jokic is
too good, Murray is playing like a man possessed. It's
just they're just too good and everything is going their way.
This is their time. The Nuggets are gonna be the champs.
I mean, I will be surprised if they get one.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
I really really rest though, if the Heat do take
care of business on Saturday. As we've talked about, they
do have four days off. Four days off is a
long time Nickelback and Miley Cyrus chill time.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
It is, but you're also talking about a team that
they have the four days off, but the cumulative effect
of the additional games that they have played versus what
the Nuggets have not played. That's a huge advantage. Now,
I mean people don't understand that, you know, to get
a little bit deeper in this is people don't understand
certain things like the schedule of the NBA Playoffs. When
(13:33):
teams are playing and they have two games off, two
days off in between games, then one day off, veteran
players are just exhausted. Man, this is a The NBA
Playoffs is a marathon. And now you're talking about adding
and playing games that the heat had to play, getting
getting in that going forward, playing those pressure games, eventually
you run out of gas. And this is why the
(13:55):
thought of stars taking games off in series where their
teams lead big, it sounds crazy, but I'm telling you
it's gonna be something that's done at some point. Right.
We talked about the fact when the Lakers were up
big against the Warriors, Hey, why not sit Lebron? Why
not sit Lebron in the next game? Why not sit
Lebron in ad you're up, you're up big, come back
(14:15):
home and win this series. You're gonna lose the game anyway.
You're not going to Golden State winning. And congratulations everybody
who took that take and got all kinds of attention
on the internet. You're welcome for stealing that. You owe
us money. That's gonna be something that's gonna be more
acceptable as time goes on, because somebody's gonna do it
that somebody really respects as a coach, and it's gonna
(14:35):
be well, this is a smart move, right, This is
a smart move because why wouldn't you rest? And and
you're gonna get You're gonna get pundits and experts on
TV that want to talk about it is a great
thing instead of just criticizing it. It's going to happen
if a coach like Greg Popovich decided to do it
or Steve curt decided to do it to rest Step
and Clay and again, we're gonna go down and try
our best, but these guys need rest. They're gonna have
(14:57):
four days before Game six and Game seven. It would
be he won a great idea. Oh, Steve Kerr, what
he The guy is so smart. He's just so unbelievably smart.
Same thing if Spolster did it or other coaches that
have a lot of cachet. But when a guy does
it that nobody is shure ah Darmandham know what he's doing.
You're resting, Lebron. I'm telling you, rest in the playoffs
(15:18):
is a big deal. I can go back to the
last three four NBA championships and go, yeah, this team
was gonna win right up until they ran out of
gas because their players got tired. The Phoenix Suns are
gonna win the championship, run until the point where Chris
Paul hit the wall and he couldn't play anymore because
he played way too much basketball in way short period
of time. I can tell you why did the Lakers
go home? Because Lebron James ran up against the wall
(15:39):
right up at the time where you're talking about the
third round of the playoffs when he hasn't had a
lot of basketball and he's trying to get back and
he hit the wall. I mean, every team, every team
that's old now, that's going to happen to and eventually
that's going to be a strategy that teams are going
to employ. We're up big, we're up big, we're up
three to one. We're going on the road. Wait a minute,
we can leave our guy home. We can leave our
guy home and he can sit from Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday,
(16:00):
play again on Friday. Yeah, we're gonna do that. We'll
be ready to win this championship on Friday night.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
I dig that you just put up bulletin board for
the Denver Nuggets fans out there. Thank you, Thank you,
claiming that it was only because Lebron was tired.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Good job. Yeah, well that's what I figured Michael alone
would would really like.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Well, I mean they got swept, yeah, you know, because
I don't want any of the misdirection to uh get
away from that. Whether you lose by a concumulative four
point or four hundred, you got swept.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Yeah, but still but to make it more about the Lakers,
he would love that. Hey wait a butte we want
in a sweep? Yeah, yeah, but we really want to
talk about the Lakers because they're more interesting. Sorry about that, Mike, Michael,
Sorry Michael, Mike, I did Mike, Now he's coming down

is something that Mike and I love giving oh and
there's certain times when it's accepted more than others. But
this is one of those times where there's been a
(19:15):
really big story the last couple of days and we
haven't really talked about it because we've had the NBA
players other things going on, but it's a big deal.
It has to do with and I think about it.
I think about my friends in this because you've probably
seen the story that once again ESPN is going through
tons of layoffs. Right it's everywhere Disney is laying off
(19:35):
people and it's become an every couple of year thing
for ESPN where they're laying off employees. And a lot
of people that are laid off, you see, they've been
with the company for a long time. They're people that
I worked with, people that are my friends, and I
feel awful for them because there's nothing you can do
because Disney has decided, yeah, we need to do this,
We're gonna lay people off. Now. The flip side of
(19:57):
this story is you've probably seen that Pat mcafee' show
is going to be going to ESPN and they're paying
them ten million dollars a year, right. I don't know
why you'd walk away from one hundred and twenty million
dollars at FanDuel for ten million from ESPN, But hey,
why not? You know, I don't know, I don't know
why you do that.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
But you know what I would say, there's other parts
to your business that you're looking at, and perhaps those
agreements are something you don't trust as making it through
their completion.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Don't worry, We'll make it work for you.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
No, no, I need to you know, whereas Disney whatever
highs rides at the EBB and flow, you got the
political stuff down in Florida. But oh, in all, you're
not expecting the entity to suddenly dissolve whereby the betting
space and consolidation whatever else. Perhaps you're wondering if you're
going to see the end of that contract. Just going
(20:48):
from the strictly business kind of if someone philosophically you've
now got a problem with it.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Listen, if something happens in you going, do I still
get the money? I'm pretty sure you do.
Speaker 5 (20:59):
You know.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Let's just saw how then are you know? How high
are you on the list of people that would get
paid out?
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Probably?
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Right right? Good luck not being able to curse. Let's
see how that goes. But this is this other part.
This is this is a different conversation because you've seen
this story and you see anytime you see about layoffs
and you see a company says, yeah, yeah, but we're
gonna go pay this guy ten million dollars a year
and it's a bad optic. But everybody misses the point
(21:27):
about this and and this is advice that I was
lucky to learn, I would say early enough in my
career that I was able to use it to understand
how I felt and how I was valued at the company.
When I'm at a company, it's a bad it's it's
a bad optic. Right. ESPN is going to lay off
a bunch of people, and Pat Macbe's gonna come in
(21:48):
with ten million dollars a year. That's gonna he's gonna
and forget about is it gonna be awkward when he
comes in all these things. Here's some of the biggest
blanket career advice I can give to you. No matter
what you do for a living, there's always money. There
is always money. Every business, there's always money. There's no
(22:11):
there's no money. If they tell you, hey, look we
don't have the money, that's a lie. That's a lie
because any business it doesn't have money is going to
go bankrupt. And and and when your boss is telling
you that he's packing his stuff and he's putting his
computer in his in his uh in his bag, and
he's trying to take whatever he can and sell on eBay,
there is always money. Big corporations, big entities, there's always money.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Well, you know, Chris put it to brass tacks, just
reminding us that there is always money in the banana stand.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
There's and there's money in the banana stand. Whether you
want to get the money or burn it down, there's
money in the banana stan. Uh. When someone says there's
no money, it's a lie. It's they're just not going
to spend it on you. That's what it is. If
you hear someone to listen, why there's nothing I can
do for it. I love you, but there's no money. No,
there's money. There's money. If they really want to pay
(23:01):
for something, they just don't want to spend it on you. Right.
ESPN's not going broke. Do they really need to cut
this mighty no, But they've decided their business model for
Disney as well. We're gonna spend X amount of dollars
this year on some kind of new talent we want
to bring in. So to be able to do this,
we have to lay people off, right, That's what we
decided to do. We decided to lay off a bunch
of people behind the scenes and spend money on a
(23:23):
guy we think that's gonna come in, is gonna try
to revamp our daytime lineup, because boy, are we just
leaking right now against Fox and everybody else. Right, We're
hoping he comes in and really just saves us because
he's popular. He's an ex athlete, right, so yeah, I
get paying money for him. But when you see the corresponding, well,
these guys are getting laid off. This is because this
(23:46):
is where they're choosing to spend their money. Okay, that's
what they're doing. No company wants to spend money. There
is no company saying, boy, we make all kinds of money.
I don't know what we're gonna do with is hey, hey,
Jason money and what hey you do a good job. Thanks?
You want more money? Yeah, yeah, because we have a
surplus of it, not what we're gonna do with it.
So we're gonna give it to you, we're gonna to
(24:08):
you harmon two and you Chris and everybody, and you
just say, you guys are gonna get all the money.
Really yeah, because we just got a ton of it.
I know what we're gonna do. Nobody wants to spend money.
ESPN doesn't want to spend ten million dollars a year
on bad McAfee, but it's what they have to spend
to go get the guy. They don't want to spend
money on anybody. No businesses want to spend money on anything,
but they understand the cost of doing business is going
(24:29):
to require them to loosen some nickels out of their
pockets once in a while. But don't let anyone ever
tell you we don't have the money. It's we have
the money for what we want to spend it on.
We're choosing not to spend it on this, and this
is what the company's decided to do. So understand that
if that happens, it's more a reflection of this is
how we value certain things at the company. And and
(24:53):
the fact that you go in say you want more money,
they say it's not there. I'll tell you what, it's
really difficult to stay. It's really difficulties because once you
take less money or you're okay with not taking money,
a company never has to give you money at all.
They never have to pay that as well. You came
in last year and demanded a raise, I said we
had no money, and here they are there staying well,
(25:13):
why would they ever pay you money again? Just don't
ever think that someone tells you we don't have money
means we don't have it. They have it. There's always money,
There's always money to move around.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
You can do well to be To be fair, there
are companies whereby there is no money because they are
in dire streets.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
But these are these are companies that are gonna go
out of business, suit that are going to get bought.
This is That's what I mean when you go in
for a company that at that point, that's where people
are running out and going, hey, if I steal this,
can is anybody gonna come after it? Can I take
a coffee maker? Right?
Speaker 3 (25:42):
But part of that assessment between you, if you have
an agent or you're just reading the tea leaves, is
trying to figure out where in the time continuum of
a life cycle of a company your current employer is
or one that you're looking to join.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Uh and in.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
The case of the medium business, it's a weird time.
There's still a lot of revenue coming in. I see
the numbers, I see the reports, I see what people
are putting out. Now it's a matter of reallocation and strategy.
And in this case, McAfee is a name that everybody's
excited about. Right, he's got a lot of avenues walking
(26:20):
away from what's left a reported one hundred and twenty
million dollars deal.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
It's kind of like the John Gruden contract.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Can I see the paperwork, but I really see how
the payouts were structured and what was you could earn
as much as versus what you're actually earning.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
But that's a whole other thing. But it's it's.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
The idea of in this case for this, you know,
we've got friends in the business and certainly we've been
around long enough. There's been blood letting at every company
that that's that's been in this media space. Not to
mention obviously what we're watching with jobs across the nation,
(27:01):
but it's a reinvestment in certain parts, eliminating redundancies, adding
responsibilities to people there. Right, it's like, hey, can you
do this as part of your normal shift. Do we
talk about it in terms of some of the projects
and responsibilities on the shows, I mean taking in a
(27:23):
house on the network, like who's responsible for what? How
do you flow? And and how many people are this
that the other? I mean we do it all the time,
and you should be right trying to make sure that
you're streamlining and using your resources best because money saved
in one spot is money that can be spent elsewhere,
and that's exactly what's happening with McAfee. Right to write
(27:45):
down over here or jobs lost and you feel terrible
for folks, no question about it. But it's traditional capitalism.
Whether and this comes down to whether you're you're into
capitalism or not, is if you can find find reasonably
suitable replacements for the job that folks are doing and
(28:06):
quality isn't damaged too terribly much, what are they gonna do.
They're gonna go to a cheaper option, or they're gonna
consolidate those into something that they think is a better
revenue enhancing vehicle. There you go, business one on.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
One Twitter at how about a fresca Mike gets swollen dope,
Mike went to school extra so we could give you
that kind of take here.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
He's been all trying to get paid the big bucks here,
that's right. Does that NBA pay it off in that
last five minutes, buddy.

Got the play that might come on your way in
a couple of seconds. But it's very rare that you
can have a big anniversary and say, I know exactly
where I was blank years ago today. But I can
(33:35):
tell you, Mike Harmon, I know exactly where I was
forty years ago today, forty years ago, forty years ago.
Where you were forty years ago today? Forty cannot make
the sporty forty years ago, i'd see. I think, I
think you will probably doing the same thing I was,
(33:55):
although in different places, because you know, I was, you know,
in New York and you were in Chicago forty years ago. Today.
I know exactly where I was. I was in Newdork
Lane on Staten Island, getting up at ten o'clock in
the morning on Saturday, excited going to a twelve o'clock
showing of Return of the Jedi. Forty years ago today,
(34:19):
Return of the Jedi was released in theaters. And I
tell you this, we sure as hell didn't see it
first day. Booooooo, because you're a fun hater, You're a
fun ader. I was nine years old. Yeah, I had
no control over anything. You were probably drunk, you and
your brothers, even though you were nine, you were probably drunks.
That's what happening in the family gathering. Might be the case.
(34:44):
But I'll tell you what I remember on the Friday night,
sitting in my bedroom, staying up late because on the
local news they were gonna review Return of the Jedi
because it came out, and I'm going I gotta watch.
It was a long review, it was like four minutes long.
And they stay said, we can show you some of
the movie that was clear to us to show from
(35:04):
Star Wars, like, oh my god, And they showed the
speeder chase scene when they're on the planet and the
Luke and Lea are on the land speeders and they're
chasing through the forest and they're you know, you see
they're going up and through trees and everything. And I'm
watching that, going, this is the coolest thing ever. Oh
my god, this is the coolest thing ever. I can't
(35:27):
wait to go see this movie tomorrow. How did I
not go? How did no one want to bring me tonight?
I'm twelve years old, so would bring me. But I
was so excuse I thought that was the coolest thing.
Or is that this movie is gonna be the greatest
movie ever. Just look at this and go up and
down the speeders and throw around to the trees, and
oh my god, it was so awesome. Oh I still
remember that.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Well, you know what, it's it's a classic that as
we wrapped the show tonight, I think I might turn
it on as a attempt to find some slumber or
put it to the meaning of life. And I'm not
quite sure which.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
And here's the thing about so two things. One really
cool thing Return of the Jedi was this past year.
You know, we went to the Redwoods for our post
Christmas trip, my family and now we go and we
went to the area of the Redwoods where they shot
the uh the scenes, and I said, oh my god,
this is so cool. We're right here and this is
this is up here is where they shot a lot
(36:19):
of the movie in the red because in the Redwood
Forest where they shot some of those a lot of
those scenes. I'm like, oh my god, this is the
coolest thing. But as time has gone on, right like,
I remember seeing Return of the Jedi going, oh my god,
that's my favorite. That's my favorite because obviously it ends
well and they play yub nub at the end and
all kinds of fun stuff. And then as time goes on,
I go, boy, that was really the worst out of
(36:41):
all the movies. I mean, not until they started putting
these other ones out. But I mean like for a
while it was like, oh man, I remember hating Empire
Strikes Back and loving Return of the Jedi, And now
I always I was always the man. Empire is the
best movie, at least until Rogue one came out. Empire
is the best and man. Return of the Jedi is
my least favor. You're really gonna die on that Rogue one,
(37:02):
He'll aren't you, I'll tell you, man, History will bear
me out. Rogue One, best Star Wars movie ever made,
best ever made. But I may I'm thinking, oh my, now,
Return of the Jedi. Return of the Jedi is the
one Star Wars movie. When it's on TV, I will
kind of question whether I'm gonna watch it for a
little while. I'm like, do I want to watch? But
everything else I'll watch, right, even even the prequels. Maybe
(37:24):
Revenge of the Sith I won't watch now. Revenge of
the Sith is kind of but I'll watch the first
two prequels. I'll watch Force Awakens. I'll want oh Last
Jedi one hundred percent for the scene at the end,
oh my goodness with with Luke and Kylo ren at
good Oh man, But uh, you know, but that of those,
I'll return to the Jedi like nah, do I want
(37:45):
to watch Turn of the Jedi? Or maybe I'll watch
something I do like that. Uh. Time now for the
play of the night. Brought to you by Progressive Insurance.
Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable. Get a multi policy
discount by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV and more
(38:05):
all your protection in one place. Bundle and save at
Progressive dot com. Well, we were hoping that we're gonna
get more basketball and more hockey. It seems like every
series is gonna be a sweep. But tonight, well we
got a little bit of a blessing because the heat
weren't able to close out the Celtics and the Western
(38:26):
Conference Final in the NHL still going.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Robertson on the right wing side got into the slot.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Here's Hans drags it same by hill. He's faced down,
the buck is loose, hup top haskting left side shutting score. Pobelski,
oh whate timer. Joe Pavelski kids the Dallas season alive
and sends this series back to Vegas. After a three
(38:52):
to two game four win, ninety six to seven, the
ticket Stars Radio Network on the call. So hey, we're
gonna get a little bit more conference finals. But this
has been like the most unimpressive and let down conference
finals in both the NHL and the and the NBA
because everything's just sweeping, is what are we gonna do
(39:13):
it all?
Speaker 3 (39:14):
We were creeping towards the sweep, so we at least
got a one more game from each of these series.
That's what we learned on a Thursday night. That and
our Top five Boston lists. You gotta check out the
whole show. Listen to the podcast downloaded evangelized criticize that,
how about a fresca at Swollen Dome.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Harmonize hypothesize all of these things. Yeah, no, no, I was.
I was a big fan of the top the top
five Boston movies of all time. That was good to
commemorate the Celtics winning and Joe Mizzoola of course watching
the town four days a week and setting up a
Game five. That's right. Uh so coming up in game
six on taking the heat, I'm taking the heat, Mike Harmon,
(39:53):
where are you?
Speaker 6 (39:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (39:54):
They finish it to Jimmy and he's gonna sing nickelback
into the national micro phone.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Coming up next, my buddy Ben Maller will talk to
you tomorrow. This is Fox Sports Radio Metsio
