Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Thursday, the Jason Smith Show with
my base friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
And already we're off to a better start than we
were last night when I got the day wrong. So
I feel much good here we are working at a
higher capacity right now. Mike Carmen, Well, I.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Think the level and quality of the games we were
watching were higher than what we're watching tonight.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
But you know what we take away what it gives us.
And here we are on a beautiful Thursday.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
We're live from the tirec dot com tyrec dot Com.
I'll help you get there. An unmatched selection fast free shipping.
Free Road has a protection in over ten thousand recommended
installers tyrack dot com, the way tire buying should be. Well,
here we are Game five where the Heat and the
close out.
Speaker 5 (01:15):
That's a probably not minutes gave Vincent game.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Maybe Gabe Vincent is the MVP I hear think about that,
forget about Yo Kitchen MB.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Maybe Gabe Vincent is the MVP who.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Knew all this time under wraps kind of buried down
the depth chart in terms of your talking points. It's
the best kept secret in all of the NBA.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Gabe Vincent, of course, missing tonight's game with an ankle
injury for the Heat, one of their biggest players over
the course of the past couple of weeks missing tonight
and as a result, the Heat are getting drubbed. One
forty five to go in the third quarter, the Celtics
lead it eighty four to sixty five. It's been a
big night for basically everybody in the starting five for
(02:00):
the Celtics. You have Tatum's got seventeen and seven assists
and six boards, and Jalen Brown's got nineteen, Smart's got seventeen.
They started this game on a twenty to five run
and it's one. I know it's the NBA, but It's
one of those games where I feel like when you're
playing a video game against somebody and you're all hyped
up and you start playing and the other person just
starts killing you and you're like, okay, well this is
(02:21):
not and it's early in the hit the reset, but like.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Let's just start again. Let's come on this.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Okay, let's just finish game five and move on to
game six, right like, this game is over, let new game.
Look at a new game in game six, because this
one's a twenty to five.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Okay, this one's over.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Yeah, can somebody clap some more dust or can we
get someone to ride a unicycle across the court and
start over? Absolutely, just a miserable showing from the Miami
Heat all around that early explosion and Boston hitting from
the arc thirteen of twenty eight from three point range today,
(02:55):
Derek White five of seven, Smart's got three, Brown's got three.
If you had a trifecta bet there, you'd be paid
off handsomely. I mean, you already got four players in
the starting lineup with at least seventeen.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Points and only six off the bench.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
They don't even need those guys today. Let's get about
the Williamses. Listen, I'll give you those six points. Okay, Miami,
you could take those points, and we got those six
bench points, and I just they could just blow up
into thin air.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
We don't need them because we're beating. You buy enough
right now.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Well and Brogden gets hurt early and you're like, well
that could loom large because you're expecting a run. It
is the NBA, after all, No run ever came, no
run ever came. It got to what thirteen at one point,
and then a bucket and then Missoula immediately calls time
out and then they ratcheted up another level.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Now, I'm glad you brought up Joe Mizzoula because that's
that's a very big deal.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Here, the Jay fire.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Here's the thing, because this is this is a big thing.
Is it Joe Mizzoula's fault still or no? Like I
don't because the Celtics are gonna win in seven and
look at the big comeback and look at them coming
back and they're winning big time. So is Joe Miszula
is still awful and he doesn't know what he's doing
and needs to be fired. I need he was a
super genius to three to zero. I need to know
(04:16):
this because I I've been told you know, when when
when people are searching for hot takes in between every
game and the NBA playoffs, Joe Mizzula is terrible.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
He's the word.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
They have to fire him, and they got to break
up Brown and and and Tatum and there's no way
they can do it. And it's all Joe Monzula's fault.
He's not calling timeouts. But so he has no impact?
Is he like not coaching in these games? That would happen?
Like did he get replaced?
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Well, that's why they're working hard on the sideline. So
I hope he's animated. So he's certainly part of the mix. Well.
It also helps when over the last they just showed
the graphic over the last seven quarters from three point
ranger plus fifty four. Uh for the heat that'll help
you win a game or two along the way if
the shots start falling, whether it's by design or just
(05:01):
happen stance that you know, the water finding its weight,
finding its level kind of thing as a you know,
mixed terrible metaphors there, but the idea that eventually they'd
start hitting shots because they were the better team in
the regular season. But you know, it doesn't take away
from some of the mistakes or errors and judgment and
(05:23):
administration dereliction of duties that we had.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
To ask about in Missouri.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
No, now, wait a minute, now, wait a minute, though,
now hang on, now, it was so bad, like he
was awful, Like it was all his fault.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Michael. I've heard many people tell me.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
That that this is all Joe Mizzula's fault, even though
the Celtics are still playing and likely they're gonna be
a live for Game six again, and.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
It's a three to two series lead for the Heat.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
But I know, I've been told so many times it's
his fault. He's awful, he's the worst, he's got to go,
he's out of his depth, he doesn't know how to
coach in the playoffs, he doesn't know any of these things.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
I've been told. I've been told that by many people.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Mike carbon So, I just want to know, is does
he get any credit for tonight?
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Is it's still his fault for getting out? I don't know.
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Just always beware of groupthink and hot take nonsense. It's
an old adage of the show and it's there. The
only time I raised it as a question is because
you do have a bunch of guys with pedigree that
are sitting around and trying to get their video resumes
together for any openings that might be available, so that
(06:22):
that's always just the curiosity. But from where we stand
right now, you know, the Brown Tatum thing was reportedly
an issue before we got the season started. Now, how
much of that is real versus imagine? It's just like
everybody hating each other with a member of the New
New England Patriots for the last couple of years. Just
because you get a book published and people start to
(06:43):
run with it doesn't make it necessarily.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
So they only won fifty seven games, they're only in
the Eastern Conference finals. They cannot get along with each Clearly,
once you get onto a court, they don't have to
like their music selections.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Right.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
It's like people saying, I don't know what Jimmy Butler's
listening to behind the scenes, but he's in charge.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
You know what's what's you're actually out on the court.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
It really doesn't matter what the hell you're listening to
in the back, now, does it? Likewise, Brown and Tatum,
they showed up for this one. But you know, you
take nothing away from the contribution Derek White got things
started in a big way early in this one. Uh,
and was huge for them last game. So uh, you
know a little bit of the fire starter there. But yeah,
Joe Missoulah, Suddenly he looks a lot smarter when you're
(07:26):
only down three to two.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Right, of course he does. Now now he's he's great.
Now he's Coach of the Year. Now what I don't
know we were I want to hear that speech he gave.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
He was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
What the hell's every speech? I'm sure he gave a
speech from the town. I'm sure he just said whose
car are we gonna take? I'm sure I'm sure that's only.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Did pretty good whatever that Ben, You have everybody sit
down and watched the.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Town with him? Yeah, yeah, Tomy, why do you always
watch this movie? Well, it's funny you should ask.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
You know, we're down three to zero, backs against the wall.
We feel like the system has screwed us.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
Now we have an opportunity.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Isn't it about a bank robbery and people die and
it's they're really bad people?
Speaker 5 (08:00):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (08:01):
And this inspires you?
Speaker 5 (08:02):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Okay, got it well before every playoffs series and certainly
during the regular season. It's a little harder to get
the turnaround. But we can go in and through the
magic of digital editing. I mean, what do you think
our video crew does. They go in and put the
faces of our opponents against all the people that weren't
trying to rob from and people weren't trying to take down.
(08:24):
So while we're in action and we're watching and I
pretend that we are you know, Athletic and Company and
Jeremy Renner, you know, we were going up against Jimmy
Butler and company. In the Town, John Hamm is Eric Spolstra.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Well, listen, John Hamm actually weighed in on this today
and he did. He did not seem like he was
a Celtics fan when when he talked about this, because
finally someone said, hey, you know this whole thing with
the Town.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
And John Hamm, you were in it. You weren't very good,
but you were in this movie and and you know,
what do you have to say?
Speaker 1 (08:57):
And he talked about it, and you know, look, he's
a big Saint Louis. He's a big blues fan and
you can just tell by hearing him talk about his
feelings for this, that he was one of those guys like, yeah,
I really really don't want the Celtics to win. I
really care about this. Here's this quote from today. He
was asked, Hey, what do you feel about Missoula? You
(09:18):
know the coach he watches the town four times a week.
Here he is, quote, I didn't know that. I hope
I get a residual check every time he watches it.
That's what I'll say to that. I know it's a
very popular movie in Boston, and we certainly had a
good time making it.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Okay, all right, not bad so far?
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Because Erry, first he is, hey, you know do I
get money?
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Do I get money anywhere I get money?
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Well?
Speaker 4 (09:37):
Who did you not like on this set that you're
gonna have that response to it? What happened to you
in Boston? Who hurt you? If I got a residual check?
Speaker 1 (09:44):
But then he goes on to this, I hope it
would inspire them to a little better record than three
to one in the conference finals. But it's not done yet.
You gotta win four to win, so we'll see what happens. Hey,
I don't care you like the down Celtics suck? I
hope you lose im.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
I could never catch afflic It was my fault.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
I trusted Rebecca Hall and she gave that big sunny
days line and it took me like five minutes to
figure it out and to tell her we're a national organization.
Pack it up, guys, he's not coming. God still burns me.
That still burns my butt that we.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Didn't catch him. I hope Boston loses. I hope they lose.
I go down in flames.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
Sounds about right. Yeah, it's a little bit of bitterness
there sometimes, you know, you just someone asked the right question.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
You gotta let it out. Boy that I just love
that he's so chapped about this.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
It's great. Hope I get money. I hope they'd be
better than down three to one?
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Is that good?
Speaker 5 (10:43):
Is that you're gonna ask me any good smart ass line? Though?
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Are you done? Are you done? Are you done?
Speaker 1 (10:48):
You know what we're gonna have to do tonight if
they win tonight, which they're holding on to win.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
If they don't, there's really we're gonna burn it all down.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
We're gonna.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
He kidding me, We're gonna have to do like the
top five movies that take place in Boston, okay, because
you know, there's been a run the last ten years
where every third movie takes place in Boston. You know,
I'm not sure Mark Wahlberg does all his movies there,
but like it's like Boston's become like, oh, we gotta
have movies here, Like like okay, wait a minute, now,
Boston when to turn into New York and Los Angeles.
(11:18):
But like Boston the last ten or twelve years has
become it's got to be in Boston. It's got to
be in Boston. So we gotta do like the top
five movies that take place.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
In Boston, we'll do.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
We'll take care of that there.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
And I will say this, I will say that right
not to give you, but I'm think, you know, thinking
about this right now, I will say I'll have a
hard time believing The Town is not on that list
because The Town is an excellent movie.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
It really is.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Really I think because of John ham I think he
convinced me I want my dollar back.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Yeah, well, lit's sen John Hamm was not great in
this movie. Let let's just let's just realize that John
Hamm is not great.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
He wasn't.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
John Hamm is not someone's gotta be last on the rankings.
I mean in terms of performances.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
His performance.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
You want to talk about John Hamm's performance, The guy
was worse than everybody else in the movie.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Is performance? Come on, he did.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Jeremy Runner's been nominated for three Academy Awards, the Guys
three Academy Award nominations. John Ham's performance you're talking, Uh No,
he wasn't very good. John Ham's not not a good
dramatic actor. I'm sorry, hot take. Not a good dramatic actor.
I'm sorry, very funny comedic actor. Not good dramatic actor,
He's not. He was just kind of there. Even the
most staunchest of people watching the movie going, you know,
(12:22):
I really hope the bank robbers get what's coming to them,
because they're causing a lot of conflict and people are
dying everything just watching John Ham You go, I hope
they outsmart him. I really hope they do. I really
hope he doesn't catch He doesn't deserve to catch him.
He didn't deserve to spot Jeremy Renner that quickly walking
the other way when all these cops are walking in.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
He didn't. I really hope they.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Died, Really hope they outsmart John Ham. I'm not rooting
for him at all. I mean, you weren't rooting for
Pete postaweight, but you really weren't rooting for John Ham.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Yeah, but you always like seeing Pete posta wait ress.
The piece up on the movie. Give it some extra gravitas.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Oh hey, look, hey, Pete Postlewait's great actor. He was
a great actor of Postile.
Speaker 5 (13:03):
Was better in thirty Rock, Yes, because he was funny.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
He was funny when he kept cutting his fingers off
of thirty Rocks. He's a doctor and he couldn't. He
just kept cutting his different parts of his body up
during operations. That happens, Twitter and OU about a Fresco
Mike at Swollen Dome making a ninety seventy two lead
for the Celtics early in the fourth quarter, eighteen points
as the Celtics hopefully counting down to extending this to

Shot, Bad Team, Worst Villain. Oh so yeah, this team is.

(15:25):
Mark How's to go a Manhouse names?
Speaker 7 (15:27):
Well, things are great. I mean I'm thankful that I
get to watch playoff basketball for another day. How about you? Guys?
Speaker 1 (15:33):
Well, I am, but I need you to help me
with something because I really don't understand.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
So is this all.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Joe Miszula's fault or is it not Joe Mizula's fault.
I don't know it's all his fault, but now they
could they're back in this.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
I've been told he's he's horrible, he doesn't know what
he's doing, he doesn't use his timeout. But here they
are potentially now back in the series. I don't understand
is it his fault or not.
Speaker 7 (15:55):
Here's how it breaks it down, Jason, it was Joel
Mozilla's fault, Joe Mozzilla's fault of the Celtics lost the
first three games, but the fact they won the past
two games, all credit goes to the players. He doesn't
get ant of credit, got.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
It, Okay, So I'm glad to settle that For me.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
I'm glad because he took off the heat off of
the players because everybody hated him.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Good, good, good Okay.
Speaker 7 (16:16):
Two. I mean, look, it's always the combination of both.
I think what was interesting is usually with NBA teams,
it always starts with the players, you know, their effort level, talent.
But I think what made this whole you know, blame
pie distribution complicated is we saw what the Celtics were
like with with a different head coach last season with Emandoka,
(16:36):
and they're a much better team. And so I think
clearly Joe Mazzulla did a better job with repairing them
using the timeouts. But at the end of the day,
the players don't try or care or you know, treat
the game as it's not worth the damn you're going
to get blown out. So they definitely adjusted as well.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
So when when you watch what's happened the last couple
of nights, you know, you came out, we talked after
Game four. You said, listen, it's wonderful to see the
effort by the Celtics, and this is what you see
when you actually try as opposed to what happened in
Game three.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Is it just that simple.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
That when the Celtics, you know, when they come up
with this effort, I mean, is that is that all
it is for them getting back in here and where
things stand right now?
Speaker 7 (17:18):
Well, it mostly is. I mean, you have everyone in
the starting lineup cracking double figures. It helps that you're
in Boston, so there's you know, a huge, you know, crowd,
atmospheric chearing them on. But I think it also goes
down to Miami. I mean, look, Miami is a very
disciplined team. So it's not like they didn't bring the
necessary effort, but they didn't you know, shoot well from
(17:39):
three nine to twenty three, and that adds up in
today's NBA. And so I think the bottom line, though,
is that when you look at this entire series, the
Celtics on paper, always had a better team. The problem
is they didn't always execute on paper. It was always
them playing down to their competition or looking board, et cetera,
(18:00):
et cetera. Where the Heat. While I don't think that
they're a number eight seed, they slid down to that
because of Jimmy Butler's injury during the regular season. You know,
I never viewed them as the top in the East either.
So yeah, if the Boston Celtic's played up to their potential,
they certainly wouldn't faced a three zero deficit.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
Yeah, I'm just calling it. They gave Vincent game and
moving on.
Speaker 7 (18:23):
Well, yeah, I mean.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
That either.
Speaker 7 (18:26):
I mean, look, he's a role player, but he's their
third leading scorer on the team. And Kyle Lowry he's serviceable,
but he's past his prime. It's a little concerning. I
thought sort of the latter part of the game, he's
rubbing his shoulder. You wonder, okay, is he going to
be all right? And you know they've already been nursing injury.
It's a Tyler hero Victor Oladipo. At the end of
the day, the Heat, they still have Jimmy Butler, they
(18:48):
still have been out of bio and I think the
bigger thing, as I was mentioned before, as you have
Jason Taateam Marcus Smart, Jalen Brown, you know, Al Horford,
all coming ready to play and locking on both ends
of the floor, and you know that's obviously going to
make a difference. And Derek. Let's not forget Derek White.
I mean he's had some struggles earlier, but he really
had a good bounce back game tonight.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
See you look at you in your fight. You didn't
mention Joe Mizuola at all. And don't forget Joe Mizzoula,
the architect of all of this. You mentioned all the players,
you did not mention that.
Speaker 7 (19:17):
You know, credit worth, credits due, right, And I also,
you know we devoted a whole segment prior to that
about his role. So I'm trying to distribute the wealth
chaos here.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Look, you mentioned the three point shooting sixteen made for Boston.
You know, sometimes games and series are turned just hey,
the shot starts to fall. What can Spolster do with
a defensive rotation to close off some of those shooting lanes,
particularly against White and Brown who had it going early.
Speaker 7 (19:49):
Yeah, it's really tough because I think with Boston to
really pick your poison. I mean, you can say all
you want to, we need to contest shooters out, but
it's really about, you know, you know, maximizing full attention
on Tatum and you know Jalen Brown and look, I mean,
I guess part of it worked as great as Jason
Tatum in he was one of six from three. But
(20:11):
the problem is he has such a great game in
other spots. I mean, he's still the mid range guy.
He still attacks the basket. So he got six foul shots.
So yeah, it is a kind of damned if you
do damned if you don't sort of feel. But that's
you know why Marcus Smart is who he is. He's
always been that decoy player for most of the season.
(20:33):
Derek White, he had had spots during the playoffs, flash
year and this year to do it. But he's been
a little bit up and down. But you know he is.
The stars aligned for him to start knocking some shots
and the obviously couldn't have come at a better time.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
In The Insider, Mark Medina with us here the Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon. All Right, so with this
series now at three to two, I look at it
now that the Nuggets have qualified after sweeping the Lakers.
I still go back to this, no matter who comes
out of the East, I find them having a hard time.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Getting a game against the Nuggets.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
And no matter who comes out of whether it's the
Celtics or the Heat, I can't see either the beating
the beating the Nuggets in the game.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
I think the Nuggets are going to sweep either of
these teams.
Speaker 7 (21:13):
Oh well, I don't know about sweep, but they're definitely
going to win the NBA Finals. I mean, look, they
haven't played a game since I guess Monday night. I
don't think that they're going to follow pat Riley's temptation
that he had with the eighty nine Lakers when they
had a week off before the finals, when they said, hey,
let's have a mini training camp in Santa Barbara, and
that result in Byron Scott but you know, injuring his
(21:34):
hamstring on a rebound indro and then Magic Johnson pulling
it in Game one. So they're not going to do that.
They're up to modern medicine. But look, you look at
the Nuggets. They've been playing and connecting on all cylinders.
Yoki j averaging a triple double, Jamal Murray showing that
his time in the bubble wasn't just contained in the bubble.
Michael Porter Junior's being a lethal third option, and they
(21:54):
just have a lot of depth across the board. Aaron Gordon.
I'm missing other guys the top of my head here, Bo,
Contavious Calwell, Pope and Bruce Brown. So they're a complete team.
I think the other thing I have to keep in
mind is even prior to this, they were a team
that didn't have any players miss any playoffs games due
to injury, so they're already at a rest and health advantage.
(22:16):
So yeah, I don't know, four games sweep, but let's
say five games.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
I had to put that health thing in as you're
a dendum their mark, so if things suddenly go awry
in that department, it's all on you. How this whole
karma and basketball gods things work.
Speaker 7 (22:33):
How is my fault all of a sudden.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
Well, yeah, you were talking about and extolling all the
virgin and he said, hey, and they've been healthy. Yes,
we've talked about, which, as we see, turns on a
dime here, and I think that's been one of the
fun parts of this Mark is watching the Denver media
bend over backwards to try to tell you about all
the great storylines that are, and a number of national
(22:55):
pundits just say, nah, they're boring.
Speaker 7 (22:57):
Yeah, I mean, look what's up with the Fox Twitter
outrace today over that. I mean, look like Chris Mannix
was making the specific point that the Denver Nuggets are
a respected team. There's a lot of interesting things about them.
But when you look at just all the soap opera
turbulence and big picture ramifications of what's happening with the
Lakers this year, the Warriors and the Clippers and the Suns, like,
(23:18):
what do we getting all up in arms about? And
look like, I'm someone who's covered the league from a
national lens with different places, and you know, it's never
been about just like chasing clicks. It's about covering the
league as you should and finding interesting stories. And the
numbers are the numbers. When I would do Jokic stories
or Jamal Murray's stories, or any nugget stories, they just
(23:39):
didn't hit the same way that it would hit when
you wrote about the Lakers or the Warriors or just
a league wide issue that's going on. I mean, I
think The best reference point here is when the Nuggets
eliminated the Lakers game four, you know, and Lebron is
giving these Da Vinci codes messages about it. I have
to think about it, and then it comes out, Oh,
(24:00):
I might retire. I made some calls and people around
him were saying, no, I think he's gonna wind up,
you know, coming back, and he just needs some time.
I wrote a late Braun James story. May retire, but
probably not, according to people who know him. The story, right,
I did a story on Nikole Jokicic and his dominant
playoff run and how Nuggets GM Calvin Booth said, Hey,
(24:22):
this is the best uh we've ever seen from Jokic
this season, even compared to his MVP seasons. Guess which
story did a lot better from a metric step, right, Like,
what are we doing here?
Speaker 3 (24:35):
I mean like that?
Speaker 1 (24:36):
And that's the thing, Mark is that people don't understand
that certain stars and certain teams just capture our attention.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
But we don't make the rules. You know, we don't
make the rules.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
But when the Yankees do something, or the Cowboys do something,
or the Lakers do something, or Jalen Brunson does something,
I mean Look, people really a lot more than they
care about. Look, I would like if more people really
cared and loved Nikola Yucky.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
We talk more about him, but he's not Lebron Lebron James.
You can't even imagine what the.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
What the what the the the.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Sports landcap is going to be when he finally retires
and we don't have Lebron James to talk about, Like
forget what the content he's provided for like the last
twenty years with.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
All of this.
Speaker 7 (25:19):
Yeah, and look like there's a clear difference between you know,
chasing the clicks and you know, some of the debate
shows debating kind of trivial things about Lebron, but when
it comes to a pertinent story involving any you know,
major NBA star or market, like, it's just going to
register a lot more than a team in a small market.
That's not to say we shouldn't pay attention to him.
(25:39):
We should, they should get the respect, But look, I
think that larger narrative that you know, Nuggets fans are
getting all upset about, as well as Michael Malone, the
Nuggets head coach, that's really catered to the debate shows,
specifically with one network that's not the one that we're on, right. So,
like when you look at the content from NBA writers,
(26:00):
they've given their props to Jokich and Jamal and the team.
So I don't know what all the fox outrages for.
I mean, that's what Twitter is about, but it just
it was obnoxious to say the least.
Speaker 5 (26:12):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
I went out of my way to remind folks that
in all of that and that great Vegas misdirection, that
the Lakers did in fact get swept, how much you
wanted to chop it up and spin it any which way?
Speaker 5 (26:25):
Mark Game six? Does this series continue?
Speaker 7 (26:30):
Well, look, clearly Boston has shown that they can do
this and make history. I think that Miami they'll win
in Game six. Historically, you know, there's only been three
teams that have ever forced a Game seven. They lost.
You know, zero out of one hundred and fifty have
ever been able to overcome an O three deficit. But look,
this is a unique circumstance where the Celtics, they're a
(26:51):
number one seed for a reason. They just underachieved and
played down and inconsistent. So you know, if they do
pull us off, it's not going to be like the
Miracle on ice or you know, the Little Engine that
Could kind of story of an underdog tale. It's more of, hey,
you played up to your potential and didn't wet the bed.
But it is something to be said about the fact
(27:12):
that overcoming these kind of obstacles is hard, because no
team in NBA history has ever done it. But Miami Heat.
They're not a typical weight seed. I think they'll put
Away on Saturday in Miami, but look, we'll have to
tune in. It should be fun.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
You can follow on Twitter at mark g Underscore Medina.
That's at Mark g Underscore Medina, who will never be
writing another Denver Nuggets column the rest of his life.
Speaker 7 (27:38):
I guarantee you. I wrote a Nuggets story today. I
got like a few more in the pipe next week,
and it's inevitable. I think one of those teams that
are going to play in the finals, right, it's all
right about them. And look, if Lebron decides to announce
after Game one he's retiring, I will write that story too,
but I'll also write about the Nuggets.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Well, he'll make it up in volume with a lot
of stories about the Nuggets.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Please make the headline being Lebron retires as Nuggets win
NBA Finals, like.
Speaker 7 (28:06):
Headline, that will help, That will help with the metrics
to say, hey, actually, these nugget stories do get traction or.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Or just just mentioned Lebron James in the title and
and and tag it with that, and he's not even
in the story at all, and people will read about.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
The nugget Lebron James to get to these NBA finals
hashtag the hell.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Out of it.
Speaker 7 (28:29):
I need you, as Lebron, I need you as our
analytics guru to us numbers up.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
Well, hey, whatever you need, we get help. Hey much
more Jalen Brunson to put it more Jalen Brunson that, hey, buddy,
thanks a bunch man.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Enjoy the weekend. We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 7 (28:45):
I appreciate you talk to Mark.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
That goes Mark.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
You know, that's a great conversation to get into in
the next minutes because the number of people who are upset,
whether it's the Nuggets or Mike Malone and or the
pundits that that you heard Mark Medina talking about, oh
what the Nuggets getting the book covered to Oh my goodness,
what what were you guys born yesterday? I mean seriously,
it's it's it's ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
You've been in the business a very long time to
yeah down.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. Now,
this is a conversation that could wind up going on
a little bit here. We need to celebrate the fact
that Celtics have kept this series going. Thank you for
more basketball. Yes, it's three to two now. He thought
this could have been over early.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
Did you know the greatest trick Jimmy Butler ever made
and had was to give Celtics fans hope.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Okay, you kind of butchered that a little bit, but
I like you stuck the landing at the end.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
Okay, I like the devil all right, sure that he
didn't exist. Now, Jimmy Butler, there's a little bit of hope.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
And you have Nickelback versus the Town. That's right.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
The Heat have been powered by the musical stylings of
Jimmy Butler and Nickelback is one of those groups they
play a lot of and hate. Listen to the lyrics
and Nickelback will give you some big, deep meanings to
their songs. You're right, And you have The Town, which
is the movie that Celtics head coach Joe Mizzoula watches
at least four times a week, so to celebrate the
(30:24):
Celtics keeping this series going, and because I'd much rather
talk about The Town than I talk about Nickelback. How
about the top five movies all time that take place
in Boston. Okay, all right, now there's a hot take
list here. Now this is a hot take list.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Hey list radio, this works. Now there's a hot how
about a presca at swollen Home.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
You've got your thoughts on this too.
Speaker 8 (30:46):
Hot take list Number one, No, no, no, we don't go.
Number two.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
No, it's number five.
Speaker 8 (30:51):
First number, no, number six, just random points.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
I know number one were a number one. We started,
number five, number five, number five, number five, Goodwill Hunting.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
It was the first.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Movie that really gave us the look at contemporary Boston,
right because it was you know, it's Affleck and Damon
they make it, and we really got to look at
the different sides of Boston. You saw the academic side
of Boston.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
You saw it. You saw the the other sides of
the tougher sides of the town.
Speaker 5 (31:26):
You got a little bit of Boston and air.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
You saw Boston and air a little bit.
Speaker 5 (31:29):
Sure, yeah, vocal the way you saw it.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
So I so goodwill Hunting because that was the first
of the modern movies of Boston. Even though it was
a great movie, it was the first one. But I
have it at number five.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
All right, I'm gonna let you run through your five
and then i'll i'll mean your retort number four.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
Sorry, sorry, do it, Sorry, go ahead, let's do.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
The next one is number four.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Spotlight, Doug, Spotlight, great movie, everything about I mean, just
the cast.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
For those that didn't see, you gotta you gotta give
a quick synopsis in what Spotlight is because I think
that I think you know, it did fairly well and
had a huge cast.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
Yeah, got a lot of awards or whatever one best picture.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
Yeah yeah, But but but Jason, do people see that
the best picture?
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Always?
Speaker 5 (32:16):
No, But they see cartoon movies.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
Because they went to see it because Michael Keaton was
in it and people thought he was Batman, so they
went to go see that movie. People.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Number three.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
If only that was true, A uh, and investigative reporters
in Boston uncover a lot of bad things going on
with much of the religious aspects of the church.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
So there were the spotlight. So that's number four.
Speaker 5 (32:39):
Okay, number three, Miss Mystic River, you got two there,
you have a daughter there. Sean penn yelled that ninety
seven times.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
You got two Academy Awards out of that. The book
was phenomenal. The movie was unbelievable, one of the best
mystery that I've ever seen.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
It was so good.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
Number two, number two, Number two is the Town. The
town was that good. It was tense, it was dramatic.
The performances in it were awesome. Not John Ham, everybody.
It was a fantastic movie. So underrated. Second best movie
to ever take place in Boston.
Speaker 8 (33:20):
Okay, number five, No number two, number one, number one,
And this cannot really be disputed unless you want to say, well,
but some of it took place in a different place.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
Social Network, oh boy, tough. Can't argue with such one
of the best movies. Probably the best movie, Oh my goodness.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
The last twel years. Yeah, I mean Social Network number one.
Speaker 4 (33:46):
Yeah, you can keep it, uh, mister Griver five Town four,
Goodwill Hunting three, The Departed at number two, the.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Best Boston movie of them all. Tenth to me, Ted,
you're insane with that. You're insane at the party being
number two. You are insane. We'll get to Ted, you're
insane with Department. First of all, anything with Mark Wahlberg
should be knocked out of this list.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
Okay, nothing. I got him in there twice. No, he's
done done. I don't know if he owes you money
or not. Whatever,
