Speaker 3 (00:51):
Now, whatever tequila has that become the official drink of
epic beatdowns and nbhit Finals, there's our official drinking, the
exhilaration or the.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Loss of hope. And with this game a twenty point lead,
it's time to start drinking. And what does that mean
for Heat fans? Whatever tequila, that's the bread. I can
see that the action of the jump shot, and there's
another three for the Nuggets lead and the lead is
now extended to twenty two. Whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Man open that bottom not whatever. Man pour three fingers
and get ready to go whatever to kill.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
A game one of the NBA Finals. I hate to
say I told you so. I guess I'll take the
l because I said Denver would win Game one by twenty.
It turned out to be eleven. It got moderately exciting
at about two and a half minutes. He got moderately
exciting at the end because hey, maybe they could actually
cover the sprint. You know, it was eight or eight
and a half. Let's take a three at the end.
(01:50):
Let's try to do that. Steady drives in and dribbles
it off his thigh. Uh, you had that. But well,
about two and a half minutes left, they had a possession,
did the heat that went awrye Jokic with the board
and then they were able to grind off some clock
and you're like, man, come on, there was h This
was a game to show you sometimes what the difference
(02:14):
is in star power. When you know, you go to
a Laker game and they they when they do the
shots of the celebrities at the game from around the crowd,
that's always the most fun thing that would be the
job I would want at a big sporting event. Hey, Jason,
you know who everybody is? Can you just look around
and see? And I like, as long as it's not, like,
you know, under twenty five TikTok stars, I know I'd
be able to find those out. Boy, that'd be tough, man.
(02:36):
I wouldn't know. I wouldn't Joe, He'll be there for you. Yeah,
you know that's the thing. You're right. TikTok videos don't
watch themselves. That's where I would YouTube stars TikTok like,
but everybody else. Yeah, I'm good man, I would do that.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
That's why I've been encouraged by the fact with all
the videos that my kids like to share with me
of things from the Eras tour.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Look who's here. They're all people my age. They look
post brand Bradley Cooper. Sure, insert other stars or Jennifer
Lawrence and this might be part of the promoting her
new film is showing up at the Era store. But
it's not a bunch of folks I've never heard of,
which was pretty exciting to me. The VIP tent is
(03:17):
filled with people that are age appropriate for me. So
when you show the Laker game of the Warriors game.
Here's Jack Nicholson, here's Flea, here's all these big Denzils.
We get Denzel right, No, it's Denzil right, It's right
Denzil right. Hey, dude, how about you tell us before? Now?
How about you really? How about I mean really, I'm
gonna let you mispronounced for thirty years and now I'm
(03:38):
gonna say something. Come on, man, you will show me respect.
Tell us after you tell us after you won for
glory in nineteen eighty nine. Man, I mean, come on.
When they did the whip around in the third quarter
of celebrities at the game, this was your whip around
in this order first person. They showed Russell Wilson, show
(04:00):
Jack first, they showed well, yeah, it was actually part
of the postgame. No, he doesn't. That's what I mean
when you show a guy who's there as part of
the broadcast. No, this is not someone who Hey, look
at me, I'm at the game, O'Neal. I'm like, okay,
Shaq is here. He was on He's he on the
NBA TV's post game after alongside grand Hill. Look, Shaq
(04:22):
is at the game. I hope Sirley is at the game. Hey,
Grant Hill is at the game. Oh, Hall the famers here,
Michael Malone is at the game, Nicole Yokicic is here. Hey,
Jimmy Butler is here. Look at all the celebrities here
for the game. So they showed Shack, right, they showed Shack.
Then they showed Russell Wilson's rot. Okay, I mean really,
(04:43):
I mean I don't know what kind of ovation he got.
Slash didn't get, but Russell Wilson was there. Uh. Then
they showed Sean Payton. Yeah, I'm like, okay, this definitely
has a certain kind of feel to it. And then
they showed Peyton Manning. I'm like, okay, this is a
Broncos only. All right, we're gonna show everybody. Next Here
comes Steve at He's gonna be next right, and Tom
Jackson's gonna be next right. No, no, no, it goes.
(05:05):
It goes Russell Wilson to Sean Payton, to Peyton Manning
to Ken Jong. And for a second, I said, are
we gonna get a promo for the mass singer? Are
we going?
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (05:20):
No? No, No, it's not no, this is ABC not
gonna there were your those are your four celebrities at
the that they showed tonight, well five counting Shaq who
was there to work, Shack Russell, Wilson, Sean Payton, Peyton Manning,
Ken Jong, the Raiders Fan Ken John, Yeah, Ken Jong,
Ken Jong was there. You know exactly who I am? Okay,
(05:44):
I know exactly who this is. This is Nicola Jokin.
If you were there, you might have been able to
get on there as Hey Fox Sports Radio, Well it
was ABC doing the game. I don't know they would
have said former ESPN personal but Jason Smith, Yeah, that
would have done it. Hey, jan you would have been
eating half of basketball. Now do we want to put
him on? Look, the dude's going to town in them
(06:04):
old big half basketball and nachos his face version. Just
show him, show him on TV. It was like when
when what did they do? They do that? The World
Series a few years ago when Callista Flockhart was a
was a big star and she was on the whole
thing like she's so thin, she's so thin, So they
showed her eating a hot dog when they cut away
to her on TV was Hey, let's show it. Jason, No,
(06:27):
he's yeah, he's the nacho show him, just show look
at him, Look at him go to town man, extra
cheese over the top of his nacho. Did he come
to an NBA Finals game wearing a Mets hat? Really
and a Star Wars sweatshirt? Okay, why not? That's him?
That's how would you not? You do you? No? Hey? Yeah?
The Star Stars aligning there? I mean not yeah, no,
(06:48):
it's that's not quite uh.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
I mean did they show whatever primetime games they they
hold the rights to for the Broncos while they were
headed Broncos.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Put on the side Broncos prime time. Let's pick all
seventeen right now? Well, that's gonna be a hard one
weak three? Oh that told you? Hey, where's the NBA Finals?
That's kind of where it is. That's kind of where
it is.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
I was waiting to see Schlereth up there. That would
have been cool. Oh hey, he's in the Denver media.
He's a big deal.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
You know.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Should have been there one hundred percent?
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Who should have been there? Who should have been there?
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Who should have been there? Deon Sanders, Deion Sanders should
have been there? You could have walked this one. I'm
cutting all of you, all of you. I'm cutting all
of you right now. You're a oh, hit the portal,
Hit the portal, and get out.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Since you brought him up, we do have to point
out the story from the weekend of all of the
big primetime games and opportunities for Colorado. That is all
the networks lining up to say this is either going
to be spectacular or it's melting down and there's a
guy with a fiddle sitting over in the back.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Or Deon said, listen, I own the copyright to primetime.
So if you have primetime games, my team goes on
prime pretty good primetime on prime Time. You know that's
he owns any of that. But that's that's good. I
don't know, you might own it for hir prime to
the fact that some of this stuff is available and
it was never copyrighted or trademarked really confuses me at times.
(08:12):
But you know, sometimes stuff lapses to don't want to
pay the filing fee. Yeah, well, and it lapses too,
which is why we get like Winnie the Pooh killing
people in movies. Now, oh wait that wait, some of that,
what are we gonna get? Oh crap, Well.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
If you don't get that extension early enough, because that
was one of the things Disney was very good about
is getting their lobbyists together to extend the right so
things didn't pass into the public domain. Since when Winnie
the Pooh was not originally a Disney character, it didn't
hold the same weight. Essay, Mickey Mouse, I mean I
didn't see that movie.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
But did Winnie the Pooh kill people by like hitting
over the head with a jar honey? Or do he
like suffocate them in honey?
Speaker 5 (08:50):
Like?
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Is that what happened? I don't know, Like that's gonna
be his big weapon. I feel like I need to
watch that now, Like and someone gets stuck like trying
to get out, like in between like a tree. They
can't get out, and it's half their body is and
half their body is out, and then you find out
like you know, you chop half your body off? Oh no,
did you pull him through? Finally it's only half the
body like that that's running in parallel with Cocaine Bear. Well,
(09:11):
we're gonna get a whole Cocaine Bear universe.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Oh no, no question about because there are stories out sure,
there's plenty of stories. I'm gonna go see the Cocaine
Bear next month. The Taxi Dermy remain, so that'll be good.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Why do you get Why do you gotta make it sad? Now?
Why you gotta make it sad? What do you think
the bear was still running? People don't know how long
a bear is alive, but maybe it was. Why do
you got to say that I'm gonna go see that
dead bear next month? Why did I said taxidermy? You
don't listen? Yeah, I gave it a nice clinical term.
Oh he's taxidermy. No, what about you? When you die?
(09:45):
And you know, fifty years from me up box? When
I died, Joe Jiffy wrote a whole song, the late
Great Joe Diffy. Well, you're gonna bring up another guy
who died. Why because he wrote a song about it?
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:55):
I know, but still but he actually boots up with sad,
put it actual stiff drink in my hand, whoa, and
prop me up beside the juke box. If I die,
I don't know that. Whether they did better, I hope
they didn't, you know, Okay, Yeah, that's it's it's too
far down the rabbit hole for that. Denver Wins one
O four ninety three. You saw the number you saw
(10:17):
the number of you saw the number of of superstars
who were there. They showed at the game and look,
I've told you for the longest time, Denver is gonna
win in four. Right, this is this is not a
close series. But what's gonna be really interesting, and we
we touch on a little bit, is what are the
ratings of these NBA Finals going to be? I still
think you're gonna get a pretty good number for game one, right,
(10:38):
because you still you still have your coming off the
the end of the of the Eastern Conference Finals. Sure,
and it's still the NBA Finals. It's a Thursday night,
it's June first. All the new shows, all the shows
you watch this week are all done, right, Ted Lasso
is done, Yellow Jackets is done, Barry, thank Goodness is done.
Right to watch success? Yes, not a fan, Not a fan.
(11:00):
I was a fan up until the last like fifteen
minutes and I'm like, what the hell are they doing?
What the hell is this? What the hell is going
on here? And luckily Frostburg did not spoil it for me,
so I was pretty happy.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
When I started cackling like a madman as I was
watching it, Like all right, I'm not laughing.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Because any of this is funny. I don't think there
was an I think Henry Winkler had maybe one line.
You see. That's that's the downfall of Barry is that
he was really really funny and like it fell in
love with the move with it being this, Hey, now
we're gonna be this off this kind of off off
kilter crime drama, violent show that has some black humor
(11:42):
in it, right, that has dark humor in it. And
there really wasn't much of that one. No, there wasn't
you have Stephen Root, No, there wasn't. And Henry went
around ted up and and Henry running around a prison
and it gave you nothing. No, and Henry Winkler was funny,
and then he wasn't funny, and I'm like, this is awful.
And then and then I was a head of hair
though they were red. Finally, well, yeah, it's true. There
was a there was a couple of things I really liked.
(12:02):
But then I got to the end and I'm like,
this is just oh boy, that's bad. That's at the
bottom of all the finales. I don't know. Yellow Jackets
is pretty bad too, So yellow Jacket's at the bottom
of that. Okay, yeah, Ted lat and I assume succession
because at least some people like Succession. It was written
still well acted in You know, Kieren Colkin's a genius.
I mean he's if he doesn't just walk away with
(12:23):
the award. I mean he was fantastic. Took me thirty
years Mac now I'm better than you, and I gotta stop.
I was actually upset where they are like alternate endings
the Berry. I don't understand how I didn't ruin it.
Uh no, you didn't. You didn't ruin it. Did I
see a different ending than you did? I think you
saw you saw an ending that was after the real one, gotcha. Yeah,
(12:46):
you didn't see the real ending. You saw the You
saw the ending that was like the very end after
the big climax, which was not that which, by the way,
it's now been four days. You can talk about it.
It's okay.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Well, you know, because if you didn't walk you don't
care that now in any of these shows at this point,
but that Succession or Lasso or Yellow Jackets, if you right,
and if you didn't watch, if you don't like it,
don't watch.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
I've seen Lasso three times now already. Everyone. I watched it. Yeah,
I like it. I like you well. I love the
music montages they were great. I love the game. That
was fantastic. It was the more the more I watched,
the more I realized how well it was done really
for we were true to the show. We did a
lot of things and they left it open for what
(13:34):
could be a big future, which is which is going
to be a show potentially without Jason Senaikis. Yeah, I
still have some problems with it. I think it works,
but no, oh definitely wasn't perfect, but it wasn't. It
got us to it. But everything is over now night
one NBA Finals. I think you'll have a pretty good number,
even though it's the Heat and the Nuggets. Okay, you're
still have a pretty good number. But now after tonight,
(13:56):
look out like you're gonna see Game two this weekend,
and if that's another Denver blood, which it's going to be,
it's going to be. We are going to need another
big NBA story to get us through all next week
during the NBA Finals. Well, just remember we do have
the fact that post Memorial Day, you got a lot
of states where people are.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Already on in summer vacation. Schools have done their graduations processes.
My daughter and a lot of the schools here in
southern California. They're done this coming week, which means people
are dipping and getting out of town, which means they
ain't going to appointment viewing of a game that looked
like today and if it's close because they get an
(14:36):
alert on their phone, maybe they'll find their way on
an app on their phone, their iPad, or find their
way into a bar wherever they may be traveling, Otherwise
it could get ugly.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
August second, We're going to Hollywood Bowl with Jay Watch
Tears for Fears and get a bowl of chili, a
hair bowl.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
All you're doing by playing this music is depressing everybody
who watched Game one of the NBA Finals tonight in
South Florida.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
Well, I'm pretty sure the heat did that themselves, and
I'm just enabling those to know that goodness is coming
in August to the Hollywood Ball.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
I feel so depressed, now, How are you depressed?
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Come on?
Speaker 1 (15:24):
I like to be happy when I listen to music.
This is good music. Instead, I don't know how to
feel now, because this is just.
Speaker 5 (15:35):
Okay, Jason, you went to see a band that had
one good song?
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Can you stop? They had two good songs. One they
had two good songs, the other one the Jungle Love
and the Bird Jungle I'll give you Jungle Love is
a great song. The Bird's a pretty good song. They
had other stuff too, but those are their big ones,
and the family guy birds better. They ended with both
of them ended with Jungle Love, something of an ornithological variety.
(16:00):
Money they probably ever made, was that song being in
Jay and Silent Bob's stripe back. Oh no, I'm sure
they made money for Purple Rain. They made a lot
of money in Purple Rain, I think so. Come, Oh,
that's where the lot.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
But at that point Prince was actually taking care of stuff,
like after he passed away and other people took control
of things. Yeah, I think everybody got cut off after that. No,
they did. They raked in the dough.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
When I went to see I said, are they going
to do something with Prince? Because there was a big thing.
When I went to Morris Day in the time a
week and a half ago, I said, are they going
to do something for Prince? Because you know they were
friends the whole time. But then they wanted to tour
and Prince had the rights to Morris Day and the
Top also. It was really a weird thing, but they
did a nice tribute for Prince. Was pretty cool. It
would be kind of silly if they didn't. They played
(16:44):
a little bit because you got to play the expectations, right,
It's like all the bands of that era. Yeah, I
think they resigned themselves. I mean we were joking about
it before, right. My brother sent me the uh Guns N'
Roses poster this morning that was out from Abu Dhabi
as they were getting ready to go on stage, and
it's three Principles riding camels in the desert. And then
(17:06):
we see videos later on that they had three songs
in the set that hadn't been played since the User
Illusion tour of ninety one ninety two. So but otherwise that.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Set list ain't changed much since they went back on
tour what nearly a decade ago. Unless Carrie Underwood or
somebody else shows up, you haven't had much change. So
I would expect More's day in the time.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
If I went to see them, I'd have those two
hits and I'd have as much of a.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Processing and love fest to prints as they can possibly muster.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
They did do a couple of deep cut Prince songs.
I'm like, they're allowed to do these two. Okay, did
they make you pancakes?
Speaker 2 (17:47):
No?
Speaker 1 (17:49):
And then they went back and they had a basketball
game in the back game The Jason Smith Show Mike
Carmon Live the tirec dot Com Studio. So Denver takes
a one game to nothing lead over the heat. Like
I've said, nothing I saw is taking me away from nuggets.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
In four did anybody taken any of the spotlight from
Bruce Brown yet? I don't know he said anything insightful,
but he had.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
A cool hat. He did have a cool.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Lies. They wanted to utter the underdog messages, the throat
A strong hat game tonight. Okay, strong hat game tonight.
That's good, strong hot game. Save a horse, Ride a Cowboy.
This look a bumper sticker from the nineteen seventies. You
threw out there and you were mad that I said
smoking dope the other night, and you're like, ah, yeah
a song, yeah yeah yeah, but you're it's a bumper
(18:37):
sticker from the seventies that we turned into a popular
song that still resonates nties you sure it was nineties?
Wasn't eighties?
Speaker 5 (18:45):
No?
Speaker 1 (18:46):
You sure you're looking it up right now, though, aren't you?
I think it was. It might actually been early. Uh
it's big and rich from two thousand and four. Oh well,
then they're just way after it. Then they're way after it.
Then then wow, I mean they monetized again.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
What do we do.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
We're out of songs. Let's do boot scoot and boogie two. No,
let's not do that. Let's do hey bumper stickers from
the seventies. All right, great, was it trademark? No? They
were able to go and take it and monetize it.
Good on them. So we'll have more on Game one
of the NBA Finals coming up in a bit. But
big news out of the league today, And you know
(19:22):
we kind of were we're talking last night that boy,
this NBA Finals Nuggets in the heat of betchfit's going
to be the runaway. We think it's going to be.
The NBA is going to need another big story to
take them through, some kind of coaching rumor or a
player who wants out, or a big trade that could happen,
whatever it is, need something else big to take us
(19:42):
through because the heat and the Nuggets aren't going to
do it. Well. We have another story and it's not
one that's taken any lightly, but it doesn't look like
we're going to get this before the end of the
NBA Finals. Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner, talked about the latest
on Jahn Morant, who is since his latest gun video
has been not part of the NBA, not part of
(20:05):
anything going on. He's been away from the team and
they're deciding what they're going to do as far as
the suspension, and here he was earlier tonight talking about
what could be next for John Morant.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
So in assessing what discipline is appropriate if that's the case,
we look at both the history of prior acts, but
then we look at the individual player's history as well,
and so that and the seriousness of course of the conduct.
(20:37):
So those are all things that get factored. It's not
an exact science. It comes down to judgment at the
end of the day on the part of me and
my colleagues in the league office. In terms of the timing,
we've uncovered a fair amount of additional information. I think
since I was still asked about the situation, I would
(21:00):
say we probably could have brought it to a head now.
But we made the decision, and I believe the Players
Association agrees with us, that it would be unfair to
these players and these teams in the middle of the
series to announce the results of that investigation. And given
that we're, of course in the offseason. He has now
(21:21):
been suspended by the Memphis Grizzlies indefinitely, and so nothing
would have changed anyway in the next few weeks. It
seemed better to park that at the moment, at least
any public announcement. And my sense now is that shortly
after the conclusion of the finals, we will announce the
outcome of that investigation.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
So there's Adam Silver who basically the meetings, I really
don't want to do anything because people are going to
get mad. But the biggest thing he said, we've uncovered
a fair amount of additional information. We could have brought
it to a head now. We made the decision. It
would be unfair to these players and these teams to
announce that decision in the middle of this series. Which
Super Sleuth gets the nugget dropped at their door tomorrow
(22:06):
is in shams? Is it? Windhorst? The fact that he
went so far to say it's unfair to announce it
in the middle of the series means he doesn't want
this out until the middle of the series. And if
anybody I get it, and if anybody comes out with it,
good luck with access, good luck with certain things that
(22:27):
you may enjoy. So if you really want this out,
if you want to have this out there, no one's
gonna comment on it. It's gonna be if this report real,
isn't And not only that, but you're looking for favors
from us, you're looking for access for it. You are
not going to get it. So Adam Silver is the
first thing he's saying, is unfair to announce it now.
He's telling every He's telling all the insiders, anybody who
(22:48):
might have this story, don't think about it right now,
don't do it right now, Not during the NBA Finals,
because this would be a story that would supersede the
NBA Finals with John Morant, because you can tell by
what he said how big a deal it's going to be.
He chose his words very carefully. I was a lawyer,
of course.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Well, but just from a the pauses in the all right,
let me let my brain catch up, dude, make sure
that I keep it on this path, so you can't
read anything into it except that it's significant, right, because
he says that explicitly. Beyond that, it's it's very nebulous
as to what direction, what's uncovered, how you go through it.
(23:26):
Just it's significant. Just that's the one word takeaway. But
everything else was very couched to keep cut off any
direction you might go in terms of reading into those comments.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Now, the good news is that you and I can
read into it. I'll tell you exactly what's going to happen.
Fair amount additional information. We could have brought it to
a head now, but it's unfair to announce decision middle
of the series. If it was nothing, you would announce it.
You would say we we looked into this. It wasn't
that big a deal, uh, for whatever reason. And there's
going to be no suspension right now. That's how. If
(24:00):
it's not a big deal, you would have announced it somehow.
It would have been very quietly put out. No discipline
for Jah Morant. You can make what you wanted this,
but we're back to the games tomorrow night. The fact
that he says we uncovered a fair amount, we could
have brought it to a head now. So if you've
uncovered additional information, it's not information that's good for John Morant.
So if you're already wondering what's going to happen to
(24:22):
the guy and you uncover more stuff, he's going to
get a season. I mean, he's going to get the
entire next year as being suspended from the end. In fact,
it may start now. It may be a one year
suspension starting now, and he gets reinstated this time next year,
or he can apply for reinstatement whatever it's going to be,
(24:42):
or we're going to give him some kind of time.
But that's what it's gonna be. It's gonna be really
serious because there's no way even though Adam Silver, who
doesn't want to do anything, can sit here and go
light on the fact that here is a player who
has brought gun culture to the league when we have
a big time gun problem the country right now, and
(25:02):
we don't want to be seen as we're the league
that is showing you that people are comfortable with guns.
Right Plus, you have had gang members weighing in on this.
John Morant's a fake, a fake gang member, and you see,
like when Keishawn Johnson said there's gang members who are
mad with him. That's the time where Adam Silver's got
to say, Okay, this is not part of the start.
We're not going to talk to gang members who are
(25:24):
gonna give us their opinion about John Moran. That's done.
That's done. He's going to get the season, and that's
what it's going to be. And probably sometime after the finals,
maybe when we get into free agency or right after
right before free agency might be it. Because if it
happens right before free agency, this is the headline. But
then we're into next year, we're on there. That's kind
of where I expect it to happen. You can't hold
(25:45):
hold on to it forever. So I would say end
of the end of the NBA Finals, before free agency
begins the beginning of July, that's where we'll get the
announcement and he's gonna get the season.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
No, and that's it, whether it's a season or not.
And there's still debates as to without knowing what the
other things are that have been uncovered. I know there's
been a lot of debates of you know, what you
really should do in this situation. Now going back to
the optics of the league and as much as people
may hate that term, it's a very big reality for
(26:15):
any company.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
Wherever you may work. However you're listening to us, we
appreciate you. But every company that you work for, they've
got their policies and procedures as to how things have
to look when dealing with the with press around your company,
earnings reports, whatever. There's certain protocols and policies, procedures and
(26:38):
and things that they need to look nice and tidy
at different times of the year. And for the NBA
is something when you talk about guns. Remember they had
a series of commercials and public service announcements including Steph
Curry and a number of other stars years ago decrying
and gonna go against the entire gun culture and just
(27:04):
you know, smart usage or ownership as it were, but
trying to distance the league from it and say, hey,
we're being proactive in our stance to say it's not
tolerated here, especially when you go back to Crittinton and
those stories in the locker room all those years ago.
So you look at you're trying to make sure you
(27:24):
send the message show some strength in the office as
the head of this league, but also being judicious about
it because we know how influential and powerful the Players
Association is. It's not Major League Baseballs, but it ain't
far off in a lot of ways in terms of
the leadership, because you do have some highly tenured and
(27:48):
decorated players that help head that up. And the last
thing they want is the sanctity and I say that
with its proper reverence here of the league tarnish by
whatever's found having to do with John Morant. As much
as he could have been one of the next guys,
there's plenty of other ascending to the throne. So he's
(28:10):
he's a jag at this point on. The NBA continue
him in that regard, and if they decided that he
needs to be dealt wish with harshly, we'll find that
out right before James Harden goes back to Houston or
Philly or wherever else these superstars start landing.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
Welcome back in Fox Sports or Radio. Jason Smith Show
with Me Mike Harmon here live frothety rack dot Com
Studios Game one.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
You were underwhelmed. But Miami Heat fans, remember, breathe in,
breathe out. There are still three more games at a
minimum to finish. Shout this series. No matter what my
colleague Jason Smith tries to tell you about this being
a foregone conclusion and that the Heat will not arrive
(29:09):
or show up at any point during this series.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
No, you cannot vanquish culture so fast, Nuggets in four
or culture out the window. What's one of the biggest
things you learned when you were in history, Right, Hey,
here's the here's the culture of Mesopotamia. Right, here's what
they do. It takes time to erode. Here's six hundred
years of building instruments with sharp edges on them, blunt,
(29:36):
and then we got right to the part where we
were making cars.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
Right.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
If the Heat culture is like, hey, it's all the
way back and we are we have these primitive tools,
and the Nuggets are playing, Hey, we got skyscrapers. We're
in the industrial revolution. There you go. How about that?
Speaker 3 (29:51):
You just fast forward all sorts of innovation and evolution.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Evolution, evolution, evolution. I don't think people say it evolution,
I do evolution sounds like a new album by Eve, Like, hey,
you know Eve's new album is Evolution. Oh, I like
that's pretty good. I'd be pretty good. Yeah, but I'll
say it how I want. Evolution, Evolution, Evolution. That's okay,
you you could say it how you want. Anyway. The
(30:18):
point is you tried to jump straight ahead. I don't
think you dismantled this squad quite so fast. They're not
a team that is suddenly going to be staring down
and down in the dumps. Are not gonna be crying
ahead of the next game because you showed them video
of Game one. The Nuggets remind me a lot of
the Patriots when they made their big run in the
(30:40):
Brady era. Right. This is another reason why Nuggets in four.
The Patriots always the Patriots always don't try to see
you walked right into it. The Patriots were always one
step ahead of everybody else. How many times I watched
the Patriots beat the Jets to in the season where
(31:01):
Week five they play and the Jets think they have
the right game plan and the Patriots zig where you
think they're gonna zag, and the Patriots win, and the
Jets go, Okay, we're gonna be ready for the rematch
in week twelve. You get to week twelve, this is
what they did last time. Let's make sure they don't
do that. And they're onto something completely different and they
beat the Jets again a different way. Well, they choose
their own adventure. First time, we run the football thirty
(31:23):
five times, and even though we have Tom Brady, what's
going second time? Hey, we're gonna instead of rushing the passer,
we're gonna win and with our three down line, we're
gonna blitz the entire game. They always give you something
you're not prepared for.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
It's like a good supervillain, right, it never comes at
you with the same attag I mean.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Gott to keep the superhero on his toes. Otherwise, why
sequelize it? I don't know. Syndrome came out, had the
same thing. Syndrome. He was you com monologuing too much.
But Jet's the that's the that's the the Patriots way.
And this is what Denver has done through the entire playoff.
You think you know how you're gonna play them, and
they have been one step ahead the entire time. We're
(32:01):
going to move things around a little bit defensively and
force everybody, but Jokic to beat us. Now we're gonna change.
Now that didn't work. We're gonna make Yokic beat us. Okay,
now that didn't work. And the Denver Nuggets can win
so many different ways because of how talented Nicola Yokich is.
They can run the offense through him, they can run
the offense around him, they can give him rest. They cannot.
You saw tonight beginning of the game, the Heat were like,
(32:22):
we're gonna make everybody else beat us. We'll make it Gouse.
Yokic is not gonna do it. What happened. Jogic had
six assists in the first quarter and they blitzed out
to a fifteen point lead because Murray made shots, Aaron
Gordon made shots. That was it a lot.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Of off the ball, right, I mean it was. There
were a lot of back cuts and a lot of
wide open looks. Layups and dunks accounted for I think
five of the first six assists. It wasn't jump shooting,
it wasn't kicking out the three point land. It was
a lot of interior looks. We've talked about it all night.
Thirty two points in the paint in the first half,
that's that's the stat that just stands out and what
(32:56):
we as we previewed the series, Jayson was going to
be the big question mark beyond bad bam Adebayo, who's
there for you? And he had a big game, But
from a physicality standpoint, who's standing in? No, how many
minutes can you get out of Kevin Love? How much
can you get out of Highsmith? Like you're doing your
best and that's just it. Some of it is you're
(33:16):
just hoping. The you're rebounding is just sound right, good
box outs, good opportunity, and you make the most of it.
You know, fifty to fifty balls you have to win.
But the other side is that the wide open looks
aren't falling, and at least early in the game, they're
also lucky. When Denver did shoot from the outside, they
(33:37):
were missing. So it kept it closer, perhaps a little
bit longer. Everything that could go wrong, and this game
did right. Two free throw attempts.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
You got what fifty six two point shots? You got
two free throws. So I want to go back and
watch the tape. Well, look it's a lot of jump shots.
And look, the Nuggets can win many different ways, right,
and that's a big thing. Right, just like the Patriots did.
But here's something you can't get past if you're the Heat.
The Nugget size advantage is a really big deal growing
(34:06):
and they're not just big and slow, they're big in
their stun stars coming to your rescue. And that's something
that's going to be impossible for the Heat to overcome.
How do they do it? Right? They had to settle
for a lot of jump shots tonight because they they
can't get they can't get down low, and the Nuggets
able to get easy baskets because of their size advantage.
That's something that you don't see it until you actually
(34:26):
see the teams playing. Wow, man, the Heat really look
like they're ill equipped for this series. Can't change that.
Not often in the middle of a game, you and
I are looking what else is on TV? Right?
Speaker 3 (34:37):
Can we get the end of a baseball game on?
Do we have some lacrosse?
Speaker 5 (34:42):
Like?
Speaker 1 (34:42):
What what do we got going on? Do we have
lacross soccer game? Northwestern already? Congratulations of Northwestern women buddy
national championship. That's nice? Yeah, body, first time it's twenty twelve, right, Yeah,
a big deal. I know more about that than how
about that? Next? Hey, how can he get back In
(35:03):
this series, one of our big insider stops by to
break it down. Just don't lose
