But don't wake up to the fact and say, oh, hey,
guess what the Mets suck.

We've I've known the Mets have sucked for a long
time now, a long time. You're bringing folks in because
you know, some folks can't work in multitask and cover
more than one sport with really bad content at a time.
So once the NBA Draft was done and the well
how high is the ceiling for Victor? When Bayama blogs

and everything else, it's wait, what's left? Oh, it's baseball season.
See what the Mets are doing? Which has been the
most disappointing and underwhelming. Do we get more hits if

July holiday, and you can see some of the teams
that just have not been able to adjust to the
new rule changes and some teams that have been able
to Because what are we seeing an uptick of now
stolen bases?

Hitting for average? Yeah, you're talking about that for weeks,
you know, Johnny come lately.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yeah, you can't play that. You can't play the shift anymore.
So now average are up around baseball. People are hitting front.
You've got Luis a riaz is making a run at
four hundred. More teams are stealing bases. Look at these
teams that are doing that, that are up near the top
of their division. The Diamondbacks are doing it. You're seeing teams. Hey,
I am adjusting the Reds are doing it. We're adjusting
tabat and the Mets and the Padres are the two

teams that just said we're just gonna throw a bunch
of talented guys out there and see what happens. And
who are the two biggest disappointments of the season in
baseball Mets and the Padres because they did not adjust.
We're just gonna a mass talent and throw it out there,
and you know what, can't do it now. Now you
have to figure out a way to get back to
playing baseball before the shift, before where was less predictable.
Now now it's hey, there's other things you need to

be doing. You can't put a bunch of guys out
there that at two forty and expect all we're gonna
win a bunch of games.

But those two teams, they're the ones that are most
disappointing because they're just throwing guys out there and you
have to at some point realize, okay, these changes, we
have to adjust a little bit. Yeah, you've got two
of the six worst team batting averages in Major League
Baseball when you're looking at the Yankees and the Padres.
Padres are twenty fifth hitting a team two thirty two.

And that's despite the brilliance of Fernando Tatist Junior once
he got back, because he's been fantastic, And it's not
a story because well again they stink.

Uh. And then you've got the Tigers, Hey stink Mariners
a disappointment coming in at twenty seventh, hitting to twenty nine.
Somebody's World Series pick. Mike, Yeah, well I had hopes to,
but tie. They're tied for twenty sixth with Detroit. And
then you've got the Yankees at twenty eight And we've
talked about it, we made fun of it a bunch

with ariahs Uh and his performance versus that of the
entire Yankees roster not named Judge, and that going into
the into the weekend, Ariah's had more hits than the
rest of the Yankees not named Judge. And now you
get an update that maybe Judge will come back maybe
the second or third week after the All Star Game,

which gives you a little bit of hope. But does
that change fundamentally how you're playing baseball. No, no, it
does not. So it's curious to see, you know, the
first half superstars that have emerged a lot of big players.

Look, we're in that strange world where you're you're always
looking for new stories and and resurrection stories. And certainly

all you did was spend a lot of money and
get older.

And we spend a lot of money.

A guy that's you know, a pivotal cog and everything,

more difficult proposition. I mean, I should have known.

back back everything up. Let's like when you get to

it's Aaron Rodgers. The league didn't want to tell teams, hey,
you have to do it, but they're gonna tell the

Jets apparently we are making you do this. And you
know what, I don't care. I know there's so much
No team is gonna win or lose because they did
hard knocks. The Jets aren't gonna win or lose Week
one or in September because they did hard knocks. Does
it make things a little bit more difficult, Yeah it does.

already does he just he's gonna find a way to
make it all about him, which is great because it's

gonna help him, and it's gonna help him with his brand.
It's gonna help the Jets at least not have everybody
else be in the crosshairs of things, except for the
players who want some of the spotlight. But this will
work out just fine. Aaron Rodgers will lead the Jets
through hard knocks like he's gonna lead the offense through
the season. I don't care you rolled your eyes to me.

Well, you know what, the card market is already getting
ahead of bold predictions. But when when it comes down
to it, you're you're looking at a a sequence here

about brand re establishment. Now he doesn't care what you
think about his you know, larger pharmaceutical concerns and those

kind of things, and he lost a lot of fans,
a lot of big talking points going on all that.
But you soften it right, you're a couple of years removed.
For some folks, they either didn't hear it or didn't care.
But now you go to New York and you're the
greatest tourists that we've ever seen. Love everything about of here.

Come out a trip with me. We're gonna go to

else for the Bears. So much going on there. I mean,

So now you're also dictating terms through Chris Haynes right,
not just well, you know what, I really like it here,
because you could argue with the photo thing outside the

arena of you know what, at some point you got
to get rid of and on your badges or whatever else.
You got to use a current photo as opposed to
one that's been in the system for a decade, because
you don't look like that, you don't have the same hair,
you put on a couple pounds, and I'm talking about

when did you get that photo taken? Ah twenty twelve,

And that's about where we're at with Damian Lillard. Maybe
they just needed an update with the picture in the process.
They can argue it that way in the interim. If
you're having meetings about your future, you've decided that the
future probably isn't there because you've been doing this dance
for eleven years and everybody's brought out their violins and
they've gotten smaller every year. For Damian Lillard, the loyal superstar,

every year we have the back channel, it's like, might

to come out and say I want out none of this.
Here's a message through Chris Haynes, through somebody else. Maybe
stop trying to ride both sides. But Chris Haynes just
be like, you know what, We've run its course. We're

not going to win here, and I've kind of resigned
myself to It's been a great run. I mean I'm
excited to experience something different. You could still say that
through Chris Haynes. But throwing out a line like hey,
he'd rather be with, you know, a team versus hey,
a front loaded, superstar laden squad, it's just nonsense. I mean,

I don't want to go with too many stars. I
want to go with a couple of stars. What I
don't want too many stars?

Like what do you? What do you? Even goes back
to remember how everybody crucified James Harden when he went

the Heat have a bad season next year, Jimmy Buckets

chances now to leave after you saw Okay, it's not
gonna work in Portland. We tried for a long time,
it didn't. Do I really want to go? You could,
and you still have your pick of teams anywhere you
want to go that will trade for you, that will

The Jets have been pushing for him. A couple of
players over the weekend tweeted out and then Tyler Conklin,
who played his first four years with Minnesota, tweeted out, hey,
come to New York and Dalvin Cook liked that tweet.
So now Dalvin Cook, who was still sitting out there,

could be linked with the Jets.

Now, this is what I mean. This could just be Hey.
I learned from watching you and seeing people make it in
arguments about athletes engaging on social media right, and and
base a lot of their their theories on who players are,
you know, based on them having a little bit of
fun at the keyboard. But Delvin Cook could just be
having a little bit of fun with you, just stirring
(32:17):
the pot.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
I am, I am sure all this stuff going on.
It makes me feel like, boy, Breese Hall really ain't
gonna be ready. Everything tells me he's running in a
straight line. I don't know, but I don't know that
it's that he's not ready, it's that is not is
he going to be ready for a heavy work?

Your your goal is not hey we eke into January. No,
this is we're running through to the super Bowl and
we're getting to Las Vegas, which means you are going
to do everything you can, like so many teams have
before you, to stack that running back room so that
you don't have to do all that were entarorly. But

I'll be honest with you, like I ever lie, I
really am stunned that Dalvin Cook is still out there,
even to the point after the first couple of days
went by and whatever thoughts he had in his head,
Oh we're gonna get three years and twenty four million
something like that, at some point I would expected him
to have all Right, now, I understand what my market
(33:25):
is and what teams are interested in me.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
And I don't know if he's expecting something to happen,
or if he's expecting suddenly a team is gonna say, hey,
we have the money for you. Because anybody who was
gonna spend the money would have offered it to them already.
But it's obvious that everybody and teams want him under
very specific circumstances, and it's nothing that he likes. Same
thing with DeAndre Hopkins, right, Oh, I thought, I get no.
(33:48):
Obviously you are not the stars you thought you were,
or someone would have given you a lot of money
you would have signed already. No one is out there
is long because they want to be out there. They're
out there because they have no choice. But I really
am stun no one has come up with some kind
of offer a good team and said, hey, Dalvin Cook,
who's still got a couple of good years left, Maybe
not more than two because then he's gonna be thirty
(34:08):
and he's got a lot of carries, but the next
couple of years. I really am surprised. DeAndre Hopkins, I'm not,
because who knows the guy's any good anymore. It's been
three years for him. Dalvin Cook is still a belcow
running back that's gonna run. You can run for twelve
hundred yards, the good on the goal line. He's a
three down back, he said.
Speaker 3 (34:24):

Speaker 1 (34:24):
You don't have to worry about replacing him. He can
have whatever kind of role you need him to have
on a team, and for what a running back's going
to make, he knows it's gonna make. I really am
surprised he's still out there.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
I mean I've talked about it with DeAndre Hopkins and
where he's at. I think he's a more athletic version
of where Bolden was in his final years. Guy that
can move the sticks, guy that can dominate in the
red zone, right because he can blow post you with anybody,
and then he still has enough burst. Just it's not
there all the time. Yeah, right, And we saw that
(34:54):
with Arizona, and take all that with a grain of salt.
You also had the suspension when it comes to him.
When it comes to Dalvin Cook, I don't know that
there's not a little bit of wait and see with Hopkins.
Maybe a little bit too of all right, market hasn't materialized.
Do I necessarily want to go to mini camps anyway? Nah?
I kind of like my name being floated out there.
(35:16):
Certainly there's gonna be people to think to the negative
side of where they're at in their respective careers or
what their demands are whatever, But no urgency to get
into a spot. I mean, Cook's talked a little bit about, hey,
I could be that guy I was in college again, right,
I could be that player and all that, and really
trying to hype himself a little bit. And let's face it,
(35:37):
we live in a different world every thirty seconds in
the National Football League, right, the old Kevin cost draft
day line comes to bears, like, maybe you've got a
couple of places you like, kind of like Jets, Dolphins,
everybody else in the AFC East.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
My brother's in Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
I've been talking about teaming him up with his brother
for while, So I'm trying to speak that into you.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
No, no, no, we we have James Cooking dynasty.

Stop that, stop that prank caller, prank caller, James Cook.

It's more about it's more about may analysis, but it's
the idea also that guys get hurt, things change circumstances.
Desperation comes in when you realize the shiny new toy
you got is broke or you didn't get the batteries
for it. And there's Dalvin Cook sitting there waving at you,
going put me in. I'm ready to play now. At
twelve oh five. Yeah, but Sanna cave.

The longer you go without a team, the less money
you're gonna get. That's kind of how the more the
more attractive you are, you get paid. You get that
offer big right away. And if you're sitting out, you're
waiting for a situation that may or may not materialize.
We know, you know you're not getting paid, you know,
and it's like it's like cooking and Hopkins are stuck
in that. Boy, we still want the image out there

that we're stars. How do we how do we flip
this narrative of nobody signing us into something.

But don't wake up to the fact and say, oh, hey,
guess what the Mets suck.

We've I've known the Mets have sucked for a long
time now, a long time. You're bringing folks in because
you know, some folks can't work in multitask and cover
more than one sport with really bad content at a time.
So once the NBA Draft was done and the well
how high is the ceiling for Victor? When Bayama blogs

and everything else, it's wait, what's left? Oh, it's baseball season.
See what the Mets are doing? Which has been the
most disappointing and underwhelming. Do we get more hits if
we say the Mets. Do we get more hits if
we say the Padres? Guess what it's uh, it's yeah.
Look here's the thing. Let me just say this before
(02:29):
before I have a quiz for all of you. We'll
start things off. You're pretty good. Quiz for that sucks?

Well, yeah, they do. Look, no, the Mets and the Padres.
Here we are now getting close to the fourth of
July holiday, and you can see some of the teams
that just have not been able to adjust to the
new rule changes and some teams that have been able
to Because what are we seeing an uptick of now
stolen bases?

Hitting for average? Yeah, you're talking about that for weeks,
you know, Johnny come lately.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yeah, you can't play that. You can't play the shift anymore.
So now average are up around baseball. People are hitting front.
You've got Luis a riaz is making a run at
four hundred. More teams are stealing bases. Look at these
teams that are doing that, that are up near the top
of their division. The Diamondbacks are doing it. You're seeing teams. Hey,
I am adjusting the Reds are doing it. We're adjusting
tabat and the Mets and the Padres are the two
(03:16):
teams that just said we're just gonna throw a bunch
of talented guys out there and see what happens. And
who are the two biggest disappointments of the season in
baseball Mets and the Padres because they did not adjust.
We're just gonna a mass talent and throw it out there,
and you know what, can't do it now. Now you
have to figure out a way to get back to
playing baseball before the shift, before where was less predictable.
Now now it's hey, there's other things you need to
(03:37):
be doing. You can't put a bunch of guys out
there that at two forty and expect all we're gonna
win a bunch of games.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Can't do it.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
But those two teams, they're the ones that are most
disappointing because they're just throwing guys out there and you
have to at some point realize, okay, these changes, we
have to adjust a little bit. Yeah, you've got two
of the six worst team batting averages in Major League
Baseball when you're looking at the Yankees and the Padres.
Padres are twenty fifth hitting a team two thirty two.

And that's despite the brilliance of Fernando Tatist Junior once
he got back, because he's been fantastic, And it's not
a story because well again they stink.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Uh. And then you've got the Tigers, Hey stink Mariners
a disappointment coming in at twenty seventh, hitting to twenty nine.
Somebody's World Series pick. Mike, Yeah, well I had hopes to,
but tie. They're tied for twenty sixth with Detroit. And
then you've got the Yankees at twenty eight And we've
talked about it, we made fun of it a bunch
(04:33):
with ariahs Uh and his performance versus that of the
entire Yankees roster not named Judge, and that going into
the into the weekend, Ariah's had more hits than the
rest of the Yankees not named Judge. And now you
get an update that maybe Judge will come back maybe
the second or third week after the All Star Game,

which gives you a little bit of hope. But does
that change fundamentally how you're playing baseball. No, no, it
does not. So it's curious to see, you know, the
first half superstars that have emerged a lot of big players.

Little bit of run, M V, P and V.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Look, we're in that strange world where you're you're always
looking for new stories and and resurrection stories. And certainly
for the Cincinnati Reds, that's exactly where we're at. But
for the clubs that did not change, including your Mets,
all you did was spend a lot of money and
get older.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
And we spend a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
A guy that's you know, a pivotal cog and everything,
and and no pt Alonzo. It makes things a much
more difficult proposition. I mean, I should have known.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
I should have known when Edwin Diz got hurt celebrating
in the World Baseball Classic, bus folded up. Let's go
back back everything up. Let's like when you get to
the beach for a picnic and it's ready, let's just
go time.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
To go home. Everybody go home, Everybody goes. We tried
to tell but that's the thing. As soon as Timmy L.
Trumpet was out there, he tried to tell you what
it was like.

stuff here and there, but clearly the Jets would be
the big winner because it's Aaron Rodgers. It's everything new,
there's Super Bowl hopes and it's Aaron Rodgers, and hey,
it's Aaron Rodgers. The league didn't want to tell teams, hey,
you have to do it, but they're gonna tell the

Jets apparently we are making you do this. And you
know what, I don't care. I know there's so much
No team is gonna win or lose because they did
hard knocks. The Jets aren't gonna win or lose Week
one or in September because they did hard knocks. Does
it make things a little bit more difficult, Yeah it does.
You don't really want cameras around. But still you're still

beholding the players, you're beholding the teammates, and you're beholding
to everybody else. You're not gonna win or lose because
of this. Does this mean you have to work a
little bit harder?

Probably, But you're also coming to camp fat more sooner
than everybody else because you have the Hall of Fame game.
And in the end, it really, are you worried? You
just canceled the whole a whole run of of of

arguments about athletes engaging on social media right, and and
base a lot of their their theories on who players are,
you know, based on them having a little bit of
fun at the keyboard. But Delvin Cook could just be
having a little bit of fun with you, just stirring
(32:17):
the pot.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
I am, I am sure all this stuff going on.
It makes me feel like, boy, Breese Hall really ain't
gonna be ready. Everything tells me he's running in a
straight line. I don't know, but I don't know that
it's that he's not ready, it's that is not is
he going to be ready for a heavy work?
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Your your goal is not hey we eke into January. No,
this is we're running through to the super Bowl and
we're getting to Las Vegas, which means you are going
to do everything you can, like so many teams have
before you, to stack that running back room so that
you don't have to do all that were entarorly. But

I'll be honest with you, like I ever lie, I
really am stunned that Dalvin Cook is still out there,
even to the point after the first couple of days
went by and whatever thoughts he had in his head,
Oh we're gonna get three years and twenty four million
something like that, at some point I would expected him
to have all Right, now, I understand what my market
(33:25):
is and what teams are interested in me.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
And I don't know if he's expecting something to happen,
or if he's expecting suddenly a team is gonna say, hey,
we have the money for you. Because anybody who was
gonna spend the money would have offered it to them already.
But it's obvious that everybody and teams want him under
very specific circumstances, and it's nothing that he likes. Same
thing with DeAndre Hopkins, right, Oh, I thought, I get no.
(33:48):
Obviously you are not the stars you thought you were,
or someone would have given you a lot of money
you would have signed already. No one is out there
is long because they want to be out there. They're
out there because they have no choice. But I really
am stun no one has come up with some kind
of offer a good team and said, hey, Dalvin Cook,
who's still got a couple of good years left, Maybe
not more than two because then he's gonna be thirty
(34:08):
and he's got a lot of carries, but the next
couple of years. I really am surprised. DeAndre Hopkins, I'm not,
because who knows the guy's any good anymore. It's been
three years for him. Dalvin Cook is still a belcow
running back that's gonna run. You can run for twelve
hundred yards, the good on the goal line. He's a
three down back, he said.
Speaker 3 (34:24):

Speaker 1 (34:24):
You don't have to worry about replacing him. He can
have whatever kind of role you need him to have
on a team, and for what a running back's going
to make, he knows it's gonna make. I really am
surprised he's still out there.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
I mean I've talked about it with DeAndre Hopkins and
where he's at. I think he's a more athletic version
of where Bolden was in his final years. Guy that
can move the sticks, guy that can dominate in the
red zone, right because he can blow post you with anybody,
and then he still has enough burst. Just it's not
there all the time. Yeah, right, And we saw that
(34:54):
with Arizona, and take all that with a grain of salt.
You also had the suspension when it comes to him.
When it comes to Dalvin Cook, I don't know that
there's not a little bit of wait and see with Hopkins.
Maybe a little bit too of all right, market hasn't materialized.
Do I necessarily want to go to mini camps anyway? Nah?
I kind of like my name being floated out there.
(35:16):
Certainly there's gonna be people to think to the negative
side of where they're at in their respective careers or
what their demands are whatever, But no urgency to get
into a spot. I mean, Cook's talked a little bit about, hey,
I could be that guy I was in college again, right,
I could be that player and all that, and really
trying to hype himself a little bit. And let's face it,
(35:37):
we live in a different world every thirty seconds in
the National Football League, right, the old Kevin cost draft
day line comes to bears, like, maybe you've got a
couple of places you like, kind of like Jets, Dolphins,
everybody else in the AFC East.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
My brother's in Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
I've been talking about teaming him up with his brother
for while, So I'm trying to speak that into you.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
No, no, no, we we have James Cooking dynasty.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
We don't want that. We don't want that.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Stop that, stop that prank caller, prank caller, James Cook.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
It's more about it's more about may analysis, but it's
the idea also that guys get hurt, things change circumstances.
Desperation comes in when you realize the shiny new toy
you got is broke or you didn't get the batteries
for it. And there's Dalvin Cook sitting there waving at you,
going put me in. I'm ready to play now. At
twelve oh five. Yeah, but Sanna cave.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
The longer you go without a team, the less money
you're gonna get. That's kind of how the more the
more attractive you are, you get paid. You get that
offer big right away. And if you're sitting out, you're
waiting for a situation that may or may not materialize.
We know, you know you're not getting paid, you know,
and it's like it's like cooking and Hopkins are stuck
in that. Boy, we still want the image out there
(36:53):
that we're stars. How do we how do we flip
this narrative of nobody signing us into something.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Oh, we're waiting, we're waiting.

No, you're not waiting, because if you've got a good
offer from somewhere, you would have been signed.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Off well today. The way you had that happen was

covered the NFL making sure to remind me of all
the guys who are still unsigned at every.

Position, because that's how it goes.
