a big mural outside the arena. Well it's time to
update it.

And a lot of people using pictures of Godfather to
illustrate their unhappiness with us.

Well, yeah, he did show up on Instagram, you know,
with his will Smith sendinitos on Miami.

So he had the meeting with the with the brass
and after that was over, so we had the pictures
of the video of taking his name off the mural.
But then the GM says, oh, we had a great
discussion with with Dame and his agent. We look forward
to continuing to build around Damian Lillard.

He sounds like Mike, Yeah, maybe he's actually GMing both teams. Mike, Hey,
you know what, it worked for him. I cat both
of these teams, right and me, come on, we're just

and he said that, look, Dame doesn't want to go
to a team with like three stars. He just wants
to go to a team that has a chance. Like, dude,

lordand honestly is I think he reminds he looks like

someone that is afraid to go someplace else because if
they don't win, he'll get blamed. Because think about that statement,
I don't need to go someplace loaded with stars, just
where I have a chance. If I go some places
loaded and we don't win, guess what, it's my fault.
But if I go someplace that's maybe not great and
we fall short, I don't get the blame. He seems
like someone that doesn't want that kind of responsibility. But

that's been part of the calculated run in Portland. Right
If they go deep in the playoffs, they've overachieved. And
over the last two to three years, you've seen the
laudatory verbiage around the NBA, social media, NBA but also
the radio and television where Damian Lillard's star has risen.

And part of that, I think is all right, loyalty
to Portland. So part of your image, part of who
you've been is the fact that like all unlike all
the other stars, you haven't left. There's a couple of
guys that are still there, right, Giannis is still in Milwaukee,
and you've got Steph will stay as a member.

Of the Warriors up in the Bay Area. But how
many of these other guys left, right, Clay Draymond, They
may not stay there. I mean, they may not be lifers.
And so there's something to be said because think about
the legends that you know, whenever you have that short
list of guys that played their full career of this
many years plus in the same organization, what do you got?

You got Kobe and Dirk Noavitzky are the two guys
that come up all the time. Otherwise, guys are bouncing
all over the place. So for Damian Lillard, that's one
of one of those things. Yes, justin brings up the
greatness of Eudonnis Haslam still playing. He'll still be playing
in ten years. Well he was in the Lebron Dwayne Wade,

chrish Ball, Chris Bosh draft, right, so twenty years he
gets on that short list. But it's just that that
idea of all right, that's a nice feather in your
cap because if you never win here, you win as
you were loyal and you were damn determined that you
were going to get to that finish line with your

original squad. So by giving that up, He gives up
a little bit of himself. Right, But if he goes
to the winner or would be super team and it fails,
to your point, yeah, he's the new guy in town.
You're the guy, because you're the guy he goes. Anywhere
he goes, it's whoa. We've been waiting for this for years.

We've been waiting for Damian Lillard to join a new
team and join our team for year. He goes to
Miami and Miami doesn't make it back to the finals
and win. Next year, Jimmy Butler ain't getting the blame.
It's gonna be Oh, Damian Lillard didn't do it. And
I think it'll be that Eudonis Haslam retired no longer
on the man, just walk away. I can't believe that.
I can't wait.

We didn't for that one minute that we put him
into the NBA Finals. But that's what's gonna happen anywhere
he goes. If that team doesn't achieve, it's not gonna
be the established stars that are there. It's gonna be Oh,
look who didn't provide enough help? And it's Damian Lillard's
fault and everything that tells me, I like staying in
Portland because I don't want that everything that goes along

with I want to go someplace that has a chance,
but not loaded. Why would you not want to go
to a loaded team You're gonna win championship? Why would

because that's a really terrible quote to get out, by

great life and great run in Portland where all the
attention he gets is positive. Damian Lillard's great. If they
don't win, it's not his fault and they haven't given
him enough help. And when he is great, he's great

and that's all. And he stays so and there's no
how can you ever, the guys wanted to say, he's
enjoyed nothing but great publicity his entire run and now
all that can change. And I and I guarantee that's
a lot of what he's thinking about the last couple
of years, because that makes everything makes sense. Well, I
think the summary statement, and we've talked about it a bunch,

is and I think we were the only people or
at least I was to celebrate James Harden when he
went to that podium and said I want out, this
doesn't work. I wish more guys would do that. And
Damian Lillard with these quotes coming from Chris Haynes kind
of is just don't use Chris Haynes as the mouthpiece
or your Instagram. Yeah, you're gonna do the Miami thing,

Cabrera got to three thousand hits. This is this is
probably gonna be the last three thousand hits that we
ever see, at least for the next twenty some odd years,

because no one's playing now that is potentially going to
be a player to get three thousand hits. Right, We're
probably not gonna see a three hundred win pitcher ever
again in major specialization, So we're never going to see
that again. Two hundred is going to be a tough
cho but I think you'll see people get to two hundred.
You pitch long, you get to I think you'll get to.

It's a lot of years. Yeah, think about how many
how many starts your favorite pitcher has had sabotage because
they don't pitch even seven most of the time. Right,
that's three full innings of chaos. Yeah.

But if you're if you play, if you have a
good five year run with a team, five or six
year run with a good team, that's one hundred wins, right,
could you win fifteen games a year? You know you
can win fifteen games a year. I mean, look, Kershaw
has had a great fifteen years. He's in two six.

But that's what I mean, that's a that's a long time.
I mean you can get two Ndred did get to
two hundred.

To get to two hundred, right at hundred if you
have a look, if you pitch fifteen years, but you
have a five or six year run where you pitch
with a good team, you can win fifteen games a year.
That's half your wins. So at two hundred is going
to be is gonna be doable? Two fifty, I don't
know if that's doable, but two hundred could be doable.
But three hundred forget it. And I don't think we'd
get a three thousand hit guy in our lifetime.

fifty hits a year. The thing that's gonna help Freddy
Freeman is that a he's gonna be able to start
dhing because now he's playing first base every day and
eventually it's gonna be your best. That is too valuable.
Let's keep you in the lineup more. You'll DH more
in the next couple of years. He'll segue away from
playing first base every day. Sure, he's tied to the
Dodgers till twenty twenty eight, so he'd be with a
really good team in theory for the next five years.

And also he's someone who has become a better hitter
as he's gotten older. His first ten years in the league,
he had three hundred four times the last four years,
he's at three hundred. All right, Couple it with Atlanta,
couple now with the Dodgers. He has become a better hitter.
And now he's been on a team the last four
years that's been really really good. The Braves have gotten

really good, the Dodgers have been really good. He's protecting
the lineup. But now look at him. The guy's raking.
So yeah, one hundred and eighty hits the next few years, Yeah,
one hundred and fifty. If he plays to thirty nine, sure.

I'll give him a thirty percent chance, because if it's
not Freddie Freeman, we're at least twenty years away from
the next guy. But I will give But Freddy Freeman
is that guy that in five or six years we
could be talking about. This is a guy getting a
three thousand. Yeah, I mean, I dig the fact that
we're talking about Miles Stone. We did a lot with
the aforementioned Miguel Cabrera and some of these pitching milestones.

Clayton Kershaw's count to two hundred was something we chronicled
quite a bit on the Home of the Dodgers AM
five to seventy LA Sports one of our fine affiliates
here at Fox Sports Radio. And so when we look
at what Freddie Freeman's doing here, and as you mentioned,
with the years on the contract in Los Angeles, knowing
that you changed a lot of faces this year, and

I don't expect this team to look anywhere near the
same in six weeks from now. I think there'll be
some additions and some changes that go through. Maybe some
of the prospects were starting a bit of a shuffling.
I know, Frospering. You're trying to get Otani here fast.
I don't know that he's here on the first thing smoking,
but we'll see. Crazier things have happened in Major League Baseball,

but you don't have that longevity, you don't have that history. Now,
maybe the changes of the rules will allow some of
these younger players a little bit of an opportunity to
rise of it. But I mean, that's a lot a
lot of luck right the blue pit that doesn't get
caught and lands consistency, you don't go into prolonged slumps,

you're not on the injury list. A ton takes a
lot to get to those kind of milestones. Freddie Freeman,
in his time with the Dodgers. I mean you just
between he and Mooki Betts, like, there are two textbook
swings for you to watch how they go about their business.
So for Freeman, it's gonna be an interesting run. I
hope that we have a higher percentage than you're thirty

because I mean, that's good for baseball, right, It's good
for baseball when we've got guys chasing milestone. Just go
back to Aaron Judge chasing a single season, but those
career numbers, because that also means the Dodgers are doing
a lot of winning. So all our people here in

And a lot of people using pictures of Godfather to
illustrate their unhappiness with us.

Well, yeah, he did show up on Instagram, you know,
with his will Smith sendinitos on Miami.

So he had the meeting with the with the brass
and after that was over, so we had the pictures
of the video of taking his name off the mural.
But then the GM says, oh, we had a great
discussion with with Dame and his agent. We look forward
to continuing to build around Damian Lillard.

He sounds like Mike, Yeah, maybe he's actually GMing both teams. Mike, Hey,
you know what, it worked for him. I cat both
of these teams, right and me, come on, we're just
gonna We're just gonna make the Warriors older, right, Yeah,

And then Chris Haynes of Yahoo Uh does an interview
to that show. Yeah, that's right, form friend of the show,
and he said that, look, Dame doesn't want to go
to a team with like three stars. He just wants
to go to a team that has a chance. Like, dude,
those are teams that have chances, teams with stars.

What do you mean? Want it loaded, but not too loads?
I don't want to look, I don't want to be
the guy. I just want to be.

I mean, that doesn't make any sense. I don't want
to go to it. I just want to have a chance. Well, okay,
so you want to go to all less than a contender?

I gotta say this, dude, Just say it like Sam

Just say you want to be traded, or say you

interested in leaving, because we get these stories every off season,
and but obviously it's not so bad that he's really
wanted to leave because he has stayed in Portland. So
I'm done with this. Oh do I wanna stay? Do
I not want to stay? Oh? Are you gonna build

around me? Are you not gonna build around me? No,
make a bleeping decision and stick with it. Either you're
staying or you're gonna go. You're thirty three. If you're
gonna go, now is the time they drafted young players.
They want to build that way. Dude, you gotta say it.

Aaron Rodgers finally got traded to the Jets.

After what happened, He finally went on television and told
Pat McAfee it's my intention to play with the Jets,
and after that what happened, the trade got done. I'm
sorry if you don't want to be the bad guy,
but you gotta be the bad guy. You gotta come
out and say I want out, and then you can
get out. Because where I am right now with Damian
lordand honestly is I think he reminds he looks like

someone that is afraid to go someplace else because if
they don't win, he'll get blamed. Because think about that statement,
I don't need to go someplace loaded with stars, just
where I have a chance. If I go some places
loaded and we don't win, guess what, it's my fault.
But if I go someplace that's maybe not great and
we fall short, I don't get the blame. He seems
like someone that doesn't want that kind of responsibility. But

that's been part of the calculated run in Portland. Right
If they go deep in the playoffs, they've overachieved. And
over the last two to three years, you've seen the
laudatory verbiage around the NBA, social media, NBA but also
the radio and television where Damian Lillard's star has risen.
(09:34):
And part of that, I think is all right, loyalty
to Portland. So part of your image, part of who
you've been is the fact that like all unlike all
the other stars, you haven't left. There's a couple of
guys that are still there, right, Giannis is still in Milwaukee,
and you've got Steph will stay as a member.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Of the Warriors up in the Bay Area. But how
many of these other guys left, right, Clay Draymond, They
may not stay there. I mean, they may not be lifers.
And so there's something to be said because think about
the legends that you know, whenever you have that short
list of guys that played their full career of this
many years plus in the same organization, what do you got?
(10:18):
You got Kobe and Dirk Noavitzky are the two guys
that come up all the time. Otherwise, guys are bouncing
all over the place. So for Damian Lillard, that's one
of one of those things. Yes, justin brings up the
greatness of Eudonnis Haslam still playing. He'll still be playing
in ten years. Well he was in the Lebron Dwayne Wade,
(10:38):
chrish Ball, Chris Bosh draft, right, so twenty years he
gets on that short list. But it's just that that
idea of all right, that's a nice feather in your
cap because if you never win here, you win as
you were loyal and you were damn determined that you
were going to get to that finish line with your
(10:58):
original squad. So by giving that up, He gives up
a little bit of himself. Right, But if he goes
to the winner or would be super team and it fails,
to your point, yeah, he's the new guy in town.
You're the guy, because you're the guy he goes. Anywhere
he goes, it's whoa. We've been waiting for this for years.
(11:19):
We've been waiting for Damian Lillard to join a new
team and join our team for year. He goes to
Miami and Miami doesn't make it back to the finals
and win. Next year, Jimmy Butler ain't getting the blame.
It's gonna be Oh, Damian Lillard didn't do it. And
I think it'll be that Eudonis Haslam retired no longer
on the man, just walk away. I can't believe that.
I can't wait.

We didn't for that one minute that we put him
into the NBA Finals. But that's what's gonna happen anywhere
he goes. If that team doesn't achieve, it's not gonna
be the established stars that are there. It's gonna be Oh,
look who didn't provide enough help? And it's Damian Lillard's
fault and everything that tells me, I like staying in
Portland because I don't want that everything that goes along

with I want to go someplace that has a chance,
but not loaded. Why would you not want to go
to a loaded team You're gonna win championship? Why would
you not want to do that?

No, I don't want to go. That's too much pressure.
I'm telling you, he sounds I don't want that pressure
because that's a really terrible quote to get out, by
the way, for so many reasons. Yeah, he's had a
great life and great run in Portland where all the
attention he gets is positive. Damian Lillard's great. If they
don't win, it's not his fault and they haven't given
him enough help. And when he is great, he's great

and that's all. And he stays so and there's no
how can you ever, the guys wanted to say, he's
enjoyed nothing but great publicity his entire run and now
all that can change. And I and I guarantee that's
a lot of what he's thinking about the last couple
of years, because that makes everything makes sense. Well, I
think the summary statement, and we've talked about it a bunch,

is and I think we were the only people or
at least I was to celebrate James Harden when he
went to that podium and said I want out, this
doesn't work. I wish more guys would do that. And
Damian Lillard with these quotes coming from Chris Haynes kind
of is just don't use Chris Haynes as the mouthpiece
or your Instagram. Yeah, you're gonna do the Miami thing,

but it's talk to it. It's all come, it's all
it's it's all come through Chris Haynes. Other we always
get other people talking about Dami Lob. We get nothing
from him. Right last year, I want Jason Kidd as
my coach. Do we hear him say I would? Did
someone say I talked to him and he said I
want Jason Kidd as Michael that He had to do
an interview saying, no, I like, I like who we
brought in. Uh, Jason's great, but I I mean that

be a player to get three thousand hits. Right, We're
probably not gonna see a three hundred win pitcher ever
again in major specialization, So we're never going to see
that again. Two hundred is going to be a tough
cho but I think you'll see people get to two hundred.
You pitch long, you get to I think you'll get to.

It's a lot of years. Yeah, think about how many
how many starts your favorite pitcher has had sabotage because
they don't pitch even seven most of the time. Right,
that's three full innings of chaos. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
But if you're if you play, if you have a
good five year run with a team, five or six
year run with a good team, that's one hundred wins, right,
could you win fifteen games a year? You know you
can win fifteen games a year. I mean, look, Kershaw
has had a great fifteen years. He's in two six.

But that's what I mean, that's a that's a long time.
I mean you can get two Ndred did get to
two hundred.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
To get to two hundred, right at hundred if you
have a look, if you pitch fifteen years, but you
have a five or six year run where you pitch
with a good team, you can win fifteen games a year.
That's half your wins. So at two hundred is going
to be is gonna be doable? Two fifty, I don't
know if that's doable, but two hundred could be doable.
But three hundred forget it. And I don't think we'd
get a three thousand hit guy in our lifetime.

But after this yesterday, now there might be a chance.

He can't get it arriving at second base. Freddy Freeman

there's one guy to get there. This is the guy

a row, but now he's kind of settled in around
one sixty.

Seems like that dipped quite a bit since, you know,

those home games. Not hitting at home not quite the same.
So I think Manfred gives him an extra five hundred hits,
you know what, he might you know what, in addition
to absolution, we're also going to augment, So I'll hit

Al Tuove will probably get to a little bit over
two thousand by the end of this year, but he's not.
You need about one hundred and eighty hits a year
to get there. If Freddy Freeman gets a hundred and
eighty hits a year, he can get there in five years.
Now one hundred and fifty hits a year and Freeman
gets there in six now, why do I give it?

I give it a thirty percent chance of it happening.
It's very difficult because you have to be producing when
you're thirty seven, thirty eight, thirty nine, and that doesn't
And that's what people forget about. Oh, because Freddy Freeman
now thirty three, thirty four to thirty five. I mean,
look at the way the guy's hitting. But you got
to be doing it thirty seven, thirty eight, thirty nine.
You have to be getting the playing time that merit
you playing all the time. But it's one hundred and

fifty hits a year. The thing that's gonna help Freddy
Freeman is that a he's gonna be able to start
dhing because now he's playing first base every day and
eventually it's gonna be your best. That is too valuable.
Let's keep you in the lineup more. You'll DH more
in the next couple of years. He'll segue away from
playing first base every day. Sure, he's tied to the
Dodgers till twenty twenty eight, so he'd be with a
really good team in theory for the next five years.
(25:13):
And also he's someone who has become a better hitter
as he's gotten older. His first ten years in the league,
he had three hundred four times the last four years,
he's at three hundred. All right, Couple it with Atlanta,
couple now with the Dodgers. He has become a better hitter.
And now he's been on a team the last four
years that's been really really good. The Braves have gotten

really good, the Dodgers have been really good. He's protecting
the lineup. But now look at him. The guy's raking.
So yeah, one hundred and eighty hits the next few years, Yeah,
one hundred and fifty. If he plays to thirty nine, sure.

I'll give him a thirty percent chance, because if it's
not Freddie Freeman, we're at least twenty years away from
the next guy. But I will give But Freddy Freeman
is that guy that in five or six years we
could be talking about. This is a guy getting a
three thousand. Yeah, I mean, I dig the fact that
we're talking about Miles Stone. We did a lot with
the aforementioned Miguel Cabrera and some of these pitching milestones.

Clayton Kershaw's count to two hundred was something we chronicled
quite a bit on the Home of the Dodgers AM
five to seventy LA Sports one of our fine affiliates
here at Fox Sports Radio. And so when we look
at what Freddie Freeman's doing here, and as you mentioned,
with the years on the contract in Los Angeles, knowing
that you changed a lot of faces this year, and

I don't expect this team to look anywhere near the
same in six weeks from now. I think there'll be
some additions and some changes that go through. Maybe some
of the prospects were starting a bit of a shuffling.
I know, Frospering. You're trying to get Otani here fast.
I don't know that he's here on the first thing smoking,
but we'll see. Crazier things have happened in Major League Baseball,

but you don't have that longevity, you don't have that history. Now,
maybe the changes of the rules will allow some of
these younger players a little bit of an opportunity to
rise of it. But I mean, that's a lot a
lot of luck right the blue pit that doesn't get
caught and lands consistency, you don't go into prolonged slumps,

you're not on the injury list. A ton takes a
lot to get to those kind of milestones. Freddie Freeman,
in his time with the Dodgers. I mean you just
between he and Mooki Betts, like, there are two textbook
swings for you to watch how they go about their business.
So for Freeman, it's gonna be an interesting run. I
hope that we have a higher percentage than you're thirty

because I mean, that's good for baseball, right, It's good
for baseball when we've got guys chasing milestone. Just go
back to Aaron Judge chasing a single season, but those
career numbers, because that also means the Dodgers are doing
a lot of winning. So all our people here in
