Speaker 3 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome in. Second half of the show begins here
Fox Sports Radio, Arnie Span You're in for Jason Smith
tonight as we continue into the night. Wherever you are,
however you're listening, Thanks for being part of our extended
family and welcoming Uncle Arnie into your kitchen for a
nice cup of tea.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
By the way, breaking news.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
You gotta be careful when you say that on the
air here. Oh, people get mad if you say that.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
Okay, forget about breaking news.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
That's something new to you. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (00:58):
Are you and Smith gonna come out here October first
and do a remote for the jetson Kansas City.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
I'll meet you out here.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Okay, I'm in. I mean, just convince our boss to
do it. I'm in.

Speaker 5 (01:11):
Oh, I'll get that done. That's no problem. I'll just
go ahead and schedule that.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
When you set up the schedule for that week, just
make sure you put us on.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
It, right, I absolutely will.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
We'll do this show Monday after the game out here
in New York. You know, it's a short drive for me.
I'll just come down and hang out with you guys.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
You know, I kind of like the idea of that.
I like the cut of your jib. Yeah, I would
love to get out two more games. You know that
you guys do need to come out here for the game.
But it is one of the drawbacks. I mean, we
love the time of day in which we broadcast. A
lot happens in our windows. A lot of the news
dumps that they hope get lost now we find them
and we start to churn them in the moment and

(01:50):
eviscerate people as necessary. And we certainly break down games
and big events. I would argue better than anybody in
sports radio and television. But when we get down to it,
it also means we can't get to a lot of
these live events.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
Right right, But that's a Sunday game. Come out here
like a Thursday Friday. You do the show, we'll walk
around Manhattan, will chow down.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Well, we'll hang out with the New Yorkers.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
We'll go again broad show. It'll be great.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
See that's too sophisticated for me.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
I'm a high brow kind of guy. I can run
both ends of that ganet like I'm on both ends
of the spectrum. I'll be in the bar with you
four am.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
I'm good your fancy. I'll eat it at the hot
dog cart and I'll call it at night.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
You know, you know what, I still have problem with
street meat. I love that stuff well, but I mean
just from the look. I like people that are hustling
and and and working to support themselves their family and stuff.
But then, you know, when we get into regulations food preparations,
something I think about.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (02:51):
There's nothing like two dogs with mustard and sour crowded
to you who to wash it down?

Speaker 4 (02:56):
I mean, that's that's the.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Way to go, my friend, addeding the you who yes
still be taste buds of a six year old broadcasting
live from the tyrac dot Com studios tirerac dot com.
We'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road azerd protection and over ten thousand recommended installers

(03:18):
in the NFL. As we get ready for players to
start reporting to training camp, fantasy drafts are underway. Just
added a couple more players to an industry draft that
I'm working in. And you say nobody cares about your
fantasy team. Good, tell me how much you hate me
mentioning my fantasy team, and then still sign up for
the iwatcher Flex podcast. As Dan Byer and I returned

(03:41):
for season four, There but the New England Patriots in
a division that has gotten shall we say it's raised
up in class. Long time people would deride the exploits
of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, saying, well, they played nobody.
They didn't do the same argument in the AFC South
where Peytonrent Manning reigns supreme. They didn't do the same

(04:04):
thing in the NFC South, where the Saints were really
rarely challenged. But hey, that's okay. Pick the guy you
decide you want to hate in which team you hate,
and maybe Bill Belichick at the podium and the way
he dressed in his hoodies was something that people just
didn't like. But according to Ben Volan, longtime friend of

(04:25):
the show's here on Fox Sports Radio. Boston Globe senior
writer quote, Robert Kraft made it clear in March he
wants the Patriots to make the postseason win a playoff
game for the first time in five years.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
He paid Jared Mayo handsomely right to keep him off
the coaching mark. This is the quote from Volan's column
in the Boston Globe and likely views him as the
team's coach and waiting, and Belichick's friends had privately said
they're worried that he's on the hot seat for twenty
twenty three. They've missed the playoffs two of the last
three years. Right, You've seen the photos, and much has

(05:01):
been made about the fact that you see Robert Kraft
hanging out with Mac Jones, and the love or lack
thereof of Mac Jones around the facility and what the
offense has been able to put together has certainly been
talked about quite a bit. But now it's that question
going forward of the Dolphins got a lot better the

(05:25):
last twenty four months. The Jets, they're on hard knocks,
but Aaron Rodgers comes in and you've got a pretty
good roster. As you heard in the update from Brian Fenley,
Quinn Williams gets his four year, ninety six million dollars deal.
You've got some big time playmakers on offense and may
still add another when it comes to free agency and

(05:48):
the moving pieces that are still out in the marketplace.
So now it's the craft likes mac Jones, maybe others don't.
Maybe you want to see a little more Bailey.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
ZAPPI No, no, no, don't want to see that.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
But that that becomes a quite because the offense has
been putrid, that would be a kind way to say it.
And part of that is the for all the positives,
the great defensive work and a lot of the players
that have come through the overall work of determining NFL
level success outside of Gronkowski and I dare mention the

(06:26):
name of Aaron Hernandez. I mean, obviously we know what
happened there, but he was a hell of a player
for a couple of years. And then you look at
Edelman and some of those guys that passed through Wes
Welker the wide receiver position. When they've gone into the
free agency market, it's been a disaster time and time again.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Their draft has been a disaster.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
Except for maybe a few players, everything they've done has
been a disaster. They've put no offensive weapons around, and
now they don't have a quarterback. There's a couple of
things about this one. Yes, they've benefited from Tom Brady
big time. Eighty percent of the of all those super
Bowls were because of Brady. But also, remember you win
one game back then, and then you were all of
a sudden the AFC Championship game at home, which is

(07:08):
where the Patriots were, than they get to the super Bowl.
They had such an easy road so many times in
the super Bowl it wasn't even funny. They're never gonna
get back to that again. And yes, Belichick's job is
in trouble. And it's not what you've done for me, Mike,
it's which have done for me lately. And that's the problem.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
You only get so long a tail, exactly, and he's up.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
There's a couple of questions here, though. I want to
ask you if Belichick doesn' get fired after this year,
because they are a fourth place team in that division,
and by the way, they're gonna start the season two
and six, so it's gonna have a.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Lot You've already gone through everybody's schedule, Are you that guy?

Speaker 4 (07:41):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (07:42):
I are on your legal pad, you write everybody's schedule down.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
No, but I just pulled up like the schedule for them,
and just like the first eight games, they played Philadelphia
and Miami. So that's oh and two at the Jets
and at the Cowboys, so that's oh to four the Saints,
oh and five at the Raiders.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
I'll give him a win one and five, then the Bills,
and that the Dolphins.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Two more lawsuits said Dolphins are in Bloxborough that first time, right,
So that's not a guarantee. I know they struggle down here.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
One in seven, maybe two and six.

Speaker 5 (08:13):
I said two and six, So it's gonna get off
to a real rocky start there, and sure the pressure
is gonna be on big time. The only question is
if he gets fired after the year, does Belichick retire
or does he say I'm gonna really show you now,
I'm gonna go to another team and turn them around,
and I'll become the coach somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
How many teams are gonna roll up and bring in
a seventy coach.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
If your name is Belichick, I don't know there's gonna
be a lot.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
I don't know, because I think the same. As much
as you respect the career, at some point the game
moves past.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
How old is Popovich?

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Well, he just got a four years ago. He got
a Christmas gift, Yes, because of you know, the guy
grew up loving the Spurs suddenly becomes a member of
the Spurs.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Right exactly.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
So maybe it's not so much the age, but somebody
will say, yeah, we need Belichick to help turn around
our our situation here.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
So I'm not Brady's not walking through that door.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
Hey how about this? How about it?

Speaker 5 (09:11):
Could you imagine if the Raiders have a horrible year
they get the number one pick. Could you imagine if
Brady hires Belichick to be the coach in Las Vegas?

Speaker 3 (09:21):
I like, I liked that you made him the the
chooser to decide to Brady.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
I mean, come on now, how crazy with that?

Speaker 3 (09:30):
I mean, and he might be dating a Kardashian. I mean,
it's all good.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
If Toom says I'll make you the coach if I
could come back. Okay, that's too crazy, It's fine.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
I'm sorry, what are you doing?

Speaker 5 (09:41):
I don't know, I just you got a little excitable,
storryed all the listeners out there, No, no, no, he
could where this is gonna go.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
He could Irore Belichick. But there's I bet you there's
a lot of other teams.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
I beture there's probably about ten teams that would say,
if we had an opening, we'd bring in Bill Belichick.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Right now, I'm not denying that. Look, the guy could coach,
and certainly can still coach him up on the defensive side, I.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
Don't know, he's not doing a good job.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
No defense is still good every year, and part of
that Jared Mayo being there just certainly doesn't hurt.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
Because he doesn't do anything to help the offense. I mean,
but that's is gonna cut it.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
It's like, but if he goes somewhere else, he's not
gonna have the same control that he's had in New England,
which is why I don't think the job would be attractive.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
I'm not so sure about that. The control.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
He wanted to keep Jimmy g and Robert Craft and
Tom Brady Force in the trade, which turned out.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
To seem like seemed like a pretty good move. No, well,
but he wanted to keep him though. As much as
I love me some Jimmy Garoppolo. Yeah, yeah, but he's
a White Sox fan.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
Oh I didn't know that.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
He's a fan of a lot of other stuff too,
that's for sure.

Speaker 6 (10:44):
You say that like it's wrong. Why is that a
bad thing? No, it's not a bad thing.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
I'm just kidding.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
I have so many jokes early here on the West Coast.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Wait till the wait till the Ponus House.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Yeah, I have a power hour, as you love to
call it. So but yeah, I just think from a
next step, if he gets fired, I really would think
that's it. Unless he retire, I think it would be done.
I think I think he'd be a hell of a
studio guy. I don't know if you've ever won No, No, No, listen.
I don't know if you've ever watched him on any
of those shows he does in Boston, Like when he

(11:20):
goes through plays and goes and breaks it down. It's
amazing stuff. When he was doing those best ofs and
top one hundreds and sitting down at the dais the
the history of the game, knowledge and the way to
break it down. But he's fantastic on a whole other level.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
So you think it'd be good, Like analysts on.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
I don't know that he'd be in the game, but
I think I think i'd bring him into the studio.

Speaker 5 (11:44):
If i'm him, I'm gonna say enough is enough. You've
got to enjoy your life. You can't go ahead and
keep coaching until the day they put you into the ground.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
But guys, that's the way what they want.

Speaker 5 (11:54):
But you know what, though you've worked so hard, and
I know he likes the fish, he's got a boat
out there, don't you want to enjoy I mean, it's
so time consuming, Mike, it is so And does he
still have the strength that.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
What did you say?

Speaker 3 (12:08):
You was seventy seventy one?

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Geez?

Speaker 5 (12:12):
That takes a lot. Unless you're delegating authority out there.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
I just don't know if I want to keep doing
that at that age.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
You know, well, and that's the other part, right, you
look at from the team perspective, you bring him in,
you can't give him complete control because you got to
have some say over the offensive side because, let's face it,
without Brady, you know, running things and right for that
one magical season of Matt Castle, it's been if I
said the word uneven, I would be too kind, right,

(12:40):
do you.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
Believe the reports though, or are we just jumping to
the conclusions here. Do you do you think he's on
the hot seat?

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Oh, I think he is absolutely, definitely, definitely think Robert
Kraft has been very vocal about the need to get
back to championship for him.

Speaker 5 (12:54):
Well, they're not going to the playoffs and they're definitely
not winning a playoff game, so they're gonna have to
figure out.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
I like that. You bear them already, are the all?

Speaker 4 (13:02):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (13:02):
I have the Dolphins and the Cowboys. I'm already planning
my trip. I sent an email to the boss told
him I can't work on Super Bowl Sunday and I'm
gonna be going out to Las Vegas to see the Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Well you should go to Las Vegas and go experience
one of those anyway, What too bad? Yeah, you've been
saving your money.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
By the way, should I make the company pay for it?

Speaker 5 (13:23):
Pretend like I'm going out there to something happened, and
pretend I'll just bring my laptop and pretend.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Like I mean you're typing something. You can beg for credentials.
Oh yeah, sleep on somebody's floor maybe.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
But I'm already asking for the time off because I
know it's gonna be Miami.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
That's good. Yeah, the Dallas part of it, I think
you're yeah, good luck with that.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
Oh you like Miami though, you like that?

Speaker 3 (13:43):
I think they're interesting. Do I think they're a super
Bowl team? No, but we're not doing that show today. No,
not no, that that preview is still a little ways
down the road. I mean, come on, we gotta we
gotta gotta tease.

Speaker 5 (13:55):
Yeah, you better put in your time off for when
the Bears make the Super Bowl in like one hundred year.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
You know what, at least we've been there more recently,
haven't we? Sexy rexy down in Miami. Let's go about that.
It's about this year. It's all my eggs are in
one basket, dude. I'm still traded on nineteen eighty five,
just like the rest of this Chicago sports economy.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
What are you doing? The super Bowl shuffles? Though?

Speaker 6 (14:19):
Well it's a pretty good shuffle. It was a pretty
good song back then too.

Speaker 3 (14:25):

as we come to you live from the tire rac
dot com Studios team hanging out. We got Ricky, we
got Alex Tysher, we got Patrick in for Justin frostpered
of course Fendley on the updates. We'll hear from him

(16:52):
in a few minutes, but as we can.

Speaker 5 (16:54):
Do, because I know you want to get the herd.
I just wanted to say, what d is. I know,
we brought up hated teams and we go into soccer.
Doug Gottlie posted this like a half hour ago and
I just I just just found it. It's just fascinating.
Lenel Messi in Argentina can't even get into his own house.
There's people lined up, people going ballistic, just trying to

(17:17):
get a glimpse of him, a picture of him.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
I mean, you're talking.

Speaker 5 (17:19):
About thousands and thousands and thousands of people in the street.
And then there's a picture of him in America shopping
at the supermarket.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Nobody even knows who he is, Like, nobody's even has
to give her an autograph.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
He's by himself. Nobody even has a coup who he
is here in the United States. I mean, it's just crazy,
you know.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Well, I mean they do, they just haven't started stalking
as every movie es yet they know the name and
once he makes it right, I know, but on July
twenty first, and I think that probably changes a little bit.
But certainly it's a different world.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Yes, at the guy.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
That you've grown up with, a guy you've watched, a
guy you call your own. We go back. We were
talking about it before, that ownership, that possession of your
favorite teams, you and your obsession with the Miami Dolphins
and that giant Larry Zonka tattoo you've got on your
right hand. Yes, yes, and all of those kind of
things that those come into play. But certainly we we

(18:14):
know the love and the ownership literally in a lot
of cases of European and World soccer. July twenty first, Yeah,
that's the first game he's gonna play.

Speaker 5 (18:25):
So it's not like the big headline of the day,
must watch TV and all that stuff.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
Well, I think it would be, Yeah, I think.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
I mean, because historically you got a lot of guys
that come in uh to MLS, come into the leagues
here in I mean, we had this lot time here
in Los Angeles, you know, and he put on a show.
He was a showman, and eventually they did a little
bit of a spoof of him in the latest season
of the last season.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
I didn't see that, but you know, I see I'll
watch the you know with the World Cup stuff and
you know, the men's and women's national team, but thing
like this I'll tune in for, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
The curiosity, right, and all these guys when they come over,
it's the all right, what version are you getting? Right?
And and he still where's he at in the prime
while he's a guy that's just one on the biggest stage.
So I think he'll be just fine. But it's it's
when Laton was here, when it was much watch soccer
because you.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
Have to be crazy for that too, but it won't
be like messy.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
No, no, no different. But I mean, the thing is
lots on. I actually showed my daughter a clip earlier.
It was pretty funny. He was doing the walkout with
a kid and he looked down at him. He's got
a smile, and then the kids, like, I'm really nervous,
goes there's no need to be nervous. You are what's
lots on? And the kid smiles and they go and
they do their triumphant.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
When you say that, I don't.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Know why, Oh don't mess with the Zohan. Yeah, funny
you should say that that was part of our All
Star watching festivities. Just that was on one of the
many monitors here in the Great Fox where it's radio.
But we love spectacle, right, it's why we you know,
we lament a little bit that the audience for the

(20:08):
All Star Games and things like that aren't a little
more or even in our own lives. When you try
to convince and anybody out there listening wherever you're at,
I mean, think about it, when you're trying to convince
you know, your significant other or your kids, why a game,
why something is important. You don't have to be sports, right,
we're a sports talk radio show, but we recognize pop

(20:30):
culture and and everything else that might be taking up
your time. A book you read, a part of the
local park that you love to go to, or whatever,
like all of those things, like you cannot sometimes you
can't just make people understand, you know, how big and
how meaningful it is to you. It just doesn't translate.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
No, you say, well, you said the park, I went
to see Simon and garfucks in Central Park.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
I don't remember that word.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
You were one of the million, millions tickets stubbed to
prove it.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
No, it was free.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
But you know what I mean, do you have any
evidence of you being there?

Speaker 5 (21:05):
No one with a buddy of mine who actually lived
right there by the by the park.

Speaker 4 (21:10):
So it was crazy.

Speaker 3 (21:11):
Well, you know me, I I love the energy of
those things, and I love going to live events, sports, theater, concerts.
Certainly is a big thing because outside of your your
local church, whatever your denomination, however you you honor or
whatever it is for you, that that brings you that
piece like outside of that, there's very few places where

(21:32):
all the energy is going into the same place we
were talking about it here in the studio. You're right,
you mentioned the word politics, and everybody takes a fighting
position like we're in Mortal Kombat. You don't even mentioned
anybody's name, policy or anything. I'll say politics, fight, So
finish him. That was that was That was a great uh.

(21:53):
I mean, that was like iconic. And I guess the
only other one I could come close to that is
Billy Joeldelton John I saw up in Toronto. So now
there you go. I thought you were gonna tell me
you were at Woodstock next.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
No stop, and come on now, I stopped that.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
I wasn't there, not quite that far. All right, let's
bring it to the NBA and the trials tribulations of
one James Harden and from the latest reports and this
comes off sam amic that he still wants out of
Philadelphia and his quote unquote determined to end up with
the Clippers. Harden's stance has not changed, according to a

(22:31):
source close to close to him, telling the Athletic he
still wants to leave Philadelphia. He's upset with how Darryl
Morey had handled the situation heading into possible free agency
last month.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
Oh oh gee, God forbid that he didn't like something
the way something was handled. I'm sure a lot of
teams are like the way he handled things through the
last ten years.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Well, but it goes back to the same rule rule
of stuff. Right, if you've got a little bit of power,
you can exercise some clout. I can't fault you for
trying it. But if the ownership group, the general manager
and whoever else tells you to beat it, well, then
then you got that going on too. And then well
what's the next play? If we talking about with the
NFL players and holding out and trying to trying to

(23:17):
find your place. I don't fault you for trying to
do it, but sometimes you got to recognize what reality is.

Speaker 5 (23:22):
Yeah, I fucked Philadelphia. I'd say goodbye, Charlie, you're out
of here. We're gonna take whatever we can. If he
wants to go to the Clippers, go to the Clippers,
I'll get what I can.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
I'll save the money.

Speaker 5 (23:34):
And you know, who knows what I can go ahead
and do with that roster spot.

Speaker 4 (23:38):
He's just not gonna fit it anyway.

Speaker 5 (23:40):
I know Joe umbeat said some nice things about him
about wanting him back.

Speaker 4 (23:43):
Who knows if he really means that. If if he really.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Wanted to beat though, doesn't he strike you as a
guy given his past. No, usually kind of tells you
what he thinks.

Speaker 5 (23:53):
No, but you know what, if if he really means that,
it's not what he tells us. You know in the media,
he would have called Hardened and say, hey, I want
to meet with you, face to face, sit down, let's
have launch, let's have dinner, Let's meet at the Hampton's.
I don't care, and I want you to come on back.
I don't know if they've had such a meeting. That's
how you do it to heart? Yeah, you know, like
the way the Golden State Warriors flew out the Hamptons

(24:14):
to meet with Kevin Durant the show how much they
really wanted him.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
That's what you gotta do.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
Just saying it to the media because there's a microphone
in your face isn't gonna cut it.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
Well. And a lot of these moves, though, Arnie go
for show. Right, A lot of guys do some great
stuff across various sports. Do they ask for the felicity
of it?

Speaker 1 (24:33):
No?

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Right? Likewise, here behind the scenes, you don't need to
have every piece of laundry. No, But in every conversation like, no,
I'm really trying. I promise you. I invited him to dinner.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
Look, but if he did, if he met with him still.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
On unread, So I don't know how he really.

Speaker 5 (24:48):
Feels Den Harden. Well, obviously Harden still wants to leave.
So if they did meet for dinner, it didn't do
him any good. And he wants to go anyway. Look,
he wants to go to the Clippers. Send them out
to the Clippers. Enough of this guy, Well, I mean,
but what's hard skill is going downhill?

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Anyway? Well, what's hard about this. And this goes to
the Damian Lillard conversation we've had as well, who reportedly
hasn't talked to the front office personnel there in Portland
since asking for the trade. But I'll tie the two
of them together in this is that once you've made
it known that you only want to go to one
one place, well you've kind of screwed them over, now,

(25:23):
haven't you. Yes, you have the way, which is the
thing for I want to be a Clipper. Okay, how
much of the team that had a really good depth, right?
And here in Los Angeles there's a lot of Clipper
jokes that get made and availability and who's showing up right,
the unveiling the bingo card kind of thing of hey,
do we get all five guys together on any given night?

(25:45):
You don't know. But the reality is, if if that's
really the only destination he wants, much like you.

Speaker 5 (25:52):
Should have kept your mouth shut, is what you should
have done then, because then it would have been easier
for than the trade as well.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
But that's the thing, right, the Damian Lillard to Miami
and and you know, playing his uh you know will
Smith song in the background when he did and Instagram. Right, well,
they're saying the latest asking price, uh or at least
where we're at in these talks are gonna be three
number ones plus Tyler herone. But I mean that we

(26:18):
don't know if that's legitimate. That's what the rumored offer is.
Then we go to the Clippers and it becomes a
all right, it's gonna be at at the latest report
and take it for what it's worth. We're looking at
maybe Terrence Man, Norman Powell and how many draft picks,
how much has to be to be done? You know,
maybe there's an expiring give me two or three and

(26:40):
and you make it go and to that end, you know,
you look at James Harden, the guy from a scoring perspective,
operational efficiency rules, change rules, uh, interpretations and points of
emphasis as were, he's still a guy four years in
a row is average over tennis.

Speaker 4 (26:58):
Yeah, but that's gonna go and that's fine.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
But his scoring is gonna go down because that boloney
of drawing fouls, that's not gonna cut it anymore.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
But that's already gone. That's already gone down, right right,
They're not gonna as well as his shooting percentage.

Speaker 5 (27:10):
Right, So, but but the the flopper Rooney and the
oh look it be I'm getting I'm geting mugged at
the three point line and I'm leaning into somebody.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
They're not gonna give you.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
The call, Arnie. All things you've done in rec league games.
And as we say on this show, I never fault
a good strategy. I may not like it, but I can't.
I can't fault it if you're gonna get away with it,
and it's gonna they change the r. But but for
those years, if that was gonna get you the free
throw line fifteen to twenty times a game, why would

(27:40):
you not keep doing it? Well, you're right, yes, And
now they allegedly I can't wait to see the interpretation
of what constitutes a flop right by the way under
the new rules.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
Yeah, just so Vladivos that there you go.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
I still want him on my ways. That was one
of the great bits we did on the show where
Vlady was gonna take you and direct you to where
you were going in your mapping system. But I mean
a lot of it comes down to, all right, how
much do you trust your core of being able to
stay healthy? Keep him in moth balls? And then you
really just need to make the make the tournament and

(28:16):
hope they're all healthy and you can go and make
a run.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
You're starting that game already.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
Wait, wait, wait, I just start that game already. I've
got Paul George and Kawhi Leonard as my door why
alongside James Harden.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
Kawhi already said he's ready to play eighty two games.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
Right?

Speaker 4 (28:31):
You saw that he said he's ready to play every game.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
Did you verify that that was a true statement?

Speaker 5 (28:36):
No, but I've read it on the internet, so it's
gotta be true. No, you saw that story, right. I
don't know, but I mean that you saw that story.
Did you not bike or what? I think I said
that to you?

Speaker 3 (28:47):
Yeah, and I think I kind of laughed.

Speaker 5 (28:49):
Yeah, Okay, he said he was ready to play eighty two.
I mean he might not play eighty two, but he
said he was ready. That's what he said.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
You're out of control?

Speaker 4 (28:59):
Is the football to your won?

Speaker 5 (29:00):
No?

Speaker 3 (29:00):
I don't think that's Like Kevin Durant was pointing out
all of the untrue quotes that were attributed to him.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
Oh, I guess that's one of them.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
And this one I think for Kawhi Leonard, who doesn't
really say much of anything. I don't think he's agreeing
to playing eighty two games.

Speaker 5 (29:15):
He's ready to play eighty two gold, I say, is
that the postseason?

Speaker 4 (29:20):
Yeah? Oh wow, there you go.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Okay, Well, I mean, look, that would be good because
that would mean he was still playing sixty in the
regular season.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
That's true too.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (29:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
And I think if you're a Clipper fan and clip
take that right now outside of your thirteen hundred plus
toilets that Steve Palmer keeps telling me about, you tell
me you're gonna get me sixty games of Kawhi Leonard
in the regular season. I don't you feel the promise
of a uh why why do you feel bad? I
don't know.

Speaker 5 (29:44):
I've never felt bad for a billionaire before, but I
feel bad for him.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
I mean, I appreciate his passion.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
I don't find his passion. I love his passion.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
You made your bet, bed, you made your bets. You
had a dopey marketing campaign of these street lights over spotlights,
while you have two the highest paid, most known players
in the game and never made any sense.

Speaker 5 (30:05):
Well, Paul George is just I mean, that's just not
a good you know, spent of money there, that's just
worthless of the contract, to be honest with you.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
And you went. You took it further. I brought up
the fact that they might not play the requisite games
and be healthy to contribute in crunch time, and then
you basically told them he's worthless.

Speaker 4 (30:25):
Yes, dare You've.

Speaker 5 (30:25):
Got to say it the way it is out there,
There's no doubt you just went to brass tacks. They
should be a lot better than they have been. It's
been embarrassing for the Clippers. They've underachieved.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
Oh but that's the thing though, a right. I mean,
if you look at the team that actually played forty
four and thirty eight, they overachieved with the roster and
showed the depth and then it was well. But then
it was just a question if your two stars were
going to be there and available to play for I thought.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
They were supposed to challenge for a championship.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
Well, and that's what many think will happen if they
bring in James Harden.

Speaker 5 (30:53):
Yeah, wake up, Dorothy and EM's call and that's still
not gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
Oh come on, but Russell Westbrook's there too. I mean,
we get those four guys together. I'm feeling good.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
Yeah, well you know what for me? You know what's
all of a sudden, Russell Westbrook is good. You want
to know why because he's only making what eight million dollars? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (31:11):
See and see the value proposition changes, right, Well I
might get that production for that cost.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
Bingo, bingo.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
That's how it works though. That's all all American business,
especially for what he's valu proposition there, Arnie, span your sea.
We're cutting it down and we're we're talking about America.

Speaker 5 (31:32):
Yeah, I'm passing on James Harden So I thank goodness
he's not going to go to the New York Knicks.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
I'd be sick to my stomach over that.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
Can't can't do the nixt thing anymore.

Speaker 5 (31:41):
Yeah, sorry about that, Jesus. I'll have Ja to come out.
We'll go to a Knicks game together.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
You want to do that now too.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
Hey.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
One thing I do want to talk about though, is
the game of one on one. There was a little
clip that made made the rounds. I want to see
if we can get our fantasy one on one matchups
going up. So we'll get up into that next. As
we come to you from the tireraqt dot Com studios.
But first we gotta kick it over to our man, Brian.
What's going on?

Speaker 8 (32:05):
I can't wait for a one on one with Arnie Spaniard.
I am gonna win eleven nothing as I drive it
on him, and he's not gonna score a basket. Yeah,
it's gonna be a total school job. Ankle break it,
ankle break you as well.

Speaker 5 (32:20):
Well, we'll put that on like Twitter or Facebook and
see get some people to watch that on YouTube.

Speaker 8 (32:25):
Yeah, for sure. And I know you're gonna probably want
like three timeouts. We're not gonna lie time to get
yourself the water and refuel it all.

Speaker 5 (32:34):
I want to play you outdoors in Arizona tomorrow. Okay,
does it bother me? I love the heat. My middle
name is the Heat.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
Come on, Arnie the Heat Spaniard. Yes, well, no, the
microwaves already taken.

Speaker 4 (32:51):
Okay, Vinnie, that's right.

Speaker 8 (32:53):
Speaking of the heat, we've got a well you would
you could say that Phil Rivers is no for being
a legendary NFL quarterback, but another child seemingly in heat,
and that he is going to be welcoming in his
twelfth maybe twelfth tenth child. I misspoke there, the tenth child. Yes,

(33:14):
into the double digits and you start to forget where
you are. But yes, his wife Tiffany expecting a tenth child.
They announced today Northwestern football, all the turmoil around that program,
they have made defensive coordinator David Brahm its interim head
football coach for this upcoming season. This after the school
said goodbye to Pat Fitzgerald, fired for hazing allegations. And

(33:39):
the school also took a look at the baseball program
and said we want no more of Jim Foster, the
head baseball coach, so he is gone, accused of bullying
and creating a toxic environment within the team's operations. All
Pro defensive tackle Quinn Williams of the Jets gets a
lavish contract extension forward with ninety six million dollars over

(34:02):
four years, good for sixty six million dollars in guaranteed money.
MLB Part two of the season. After the All Star break,
we'll get back up and running starting tomorrow. And the
Dodgers havnked free agent outfielder Jake Marisnik. And lastly, the
Scottish Opened before the Open Championship, the tournament beforehand. The

(34:24):
week before the Scottish Open Round one complete Beong Hung
as your leader at nine under Rory McElroy is three
shots off the pace, tied for third. And you guys
might have seen this McElroy, as you all know, a
poster child for everything anti live golf. Well, after his
round today, his first round, he took another opportunity to

(34:46):
stick it to Live Golf, took another jab at them,
said quote, if Live Golf was the last place to
play golf on Earth, I would retire yeap was cut.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
We'll see, we'll see, and everybody believes that, right, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (34:59):
Yeah, who retire him or Lebron?

Speaker 8 (35:01):
Go ahead, I'll tell you what. You two guys aren't
going to be retiring anytime soon. Arnie Spanier, Mike Carmon.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
Thanks, Brian Finley at Brian Fenley where you find him
on Twitter, find Arnie at Stinking Genius one, find me
over at Swollen Dome and coming up next as we
continue here on Fox Sports Radio. As I mentioned some
debates over grate one on one matchups and what you'd
like to see, let's go current NBA players, because there

(35:31):
was an evaluation of how the game would end, and
I'll tell you it wasn't someone winning by two we'll
talk about that next year on Fox.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
Alongside of dancing Arnie Spanier. I Am Mike Harmon. Jason
Smith Show with Me. Mike Harmon continues the Stinking Genius
in for Smith tonight. He's now got the disco all
spinning in his office, no question about it.

Speaker 4 (36:03):
You know it.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
As we come to you live from the ti rack
dot com Fox Sports Radio Studios. Thanks for being with
us here as we close out the All Star break tonight.
Back at it on the field on Friday, and what
a big announcement for Major League Baseball, which is I
think great for the health of the sport. An announcement
on a big primetime game. We'll get into that coming

(36:27):
up in about ten minutes, because I think that is
a good sign for where we're headed. But a story
that well, one of the many that you sent me
earlier on It's a great audio clip and it gets
the brain percolate. We just had the home run derby,
and we always talk about the All Star festivities for
the NBA, the long range shootout and the Dunk Contest,

(36:50):
and all of these different ways we can try to
hype up individual players and get people intrigued by maybe
in oftentimes it's players for teams you don't get to see,
uh and for the dunk contest oftentimes players you haven't
really seen at all because they're languishing at the ad
end of the bench. But uh, here we have an
opportunity where Rachel Nichols doing her podcast had a conversation

(37:16):
that lent itself to some talk of basketball one on
one competition. Who would you in the NBA most want
to see go on one against each other?

Speaker 2 (37:23):
Right now?

Speaker 7 (37:23):
If you could pick a matchup of the two NBA
guys you want to see, Oh.

Speaker 9 (37:27):
Man, I would love to see Kyrie and and Devin Booker.

Speaker 4 (37:29):
Oh that would be good.

Speaker 9 (37:31):
Oh man, yes, yeah, oh, let me see the lot
right and he locked in right now.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
I'm gonna go.

Speaker 4 (37:41):
I'm gonna go.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
Jason Tatum and Paul George. Yeah, huh, I would. I
would love that.

Speaker 9 (37:48):
As you know, PG was younger, He's still got the
one Jason to do too.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
Basketball wise. I love that, But neither one of those
guys trash talking.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
I want to live if.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
We don't go there if we don't.

Speaker 8 (38:07):
See Kyrie.

Speaker 9 (38:08):
If we're gonna go there to where it's gonna get
physics gonna kind of get heated, then I'm gonna go
with like somebody like Jimmy Butler and.

Speaker 3 (38:15):
Uh oh dude, let's do something like that. That's a
real stream. They're not gonna finish the game.

Speaker 4 (38:25):
TV.

Speaker 9 (38:26):
That'll be something you're.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
Not gonna finish. See, there you go. That's one of
the What's Burning podcast with with Rachel Nichols, and I
like that final answer. Give me a little Jimmy Butler
and dreams. Let's get after him.

Speaker 5 (38:38):
No, you don't, No no problem against Jimmy, no problem
against Jimmy Butler.

Speaker 4 (38:42):
But I want somebody else.

Speaker 5 (38:44):
I mean, if you're gonna pick up to or one
on one, you gotta have Lebron in there, right, That's
that's a must. I don't know how they didn't say
Lebron's name once you gonna participate, yeah, but I know.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
But we'll just take hypothetical.

Speaker 5 (38:56):
I would love to see Lebron take on Kevin Durant
in a one on one to see how much physicality
there's gonna be. I love this Lebron take on Giannis,
which I think would be interesting.

Speaker 4 (39:06):
Also to see if.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
There's Lebron, you just keep trying to jam him into
every conversation.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
Okay, So you to me, who would you like to see?

Speaker 3 (39:14):
What I want? I want to see Jokicicen, Victor Webbin
Yama really really sure, Let's get the international players after it?
Come on?

Speaker 4 (39:23):
Now, you know we used to.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
Be talked about how not tough, you know, you know,
physicality of the NBA. I mean, I'm liking it. I
want some kind of competition like the old Home Run
Derby show. We used to see that during during rain delays.
It was from nineteen sixty. It was held at Wrigley
Field in Los Angeles, and they'd have the home run
hitting contest where while the other guy was at bat,

(39:46):
you'd have an interview. So like you'd have Willie Mays
and Hank Aaron and while one was at bat, the
other guy's doing an interview and hanging out and watching him.

Speaker 5 (39:53):
In that we had one on one in the NBA.
We used to we ranted on the halftime of like
the Sunday game. They I believe taped it and they
it was the stars of the NBA.

Speaker 4 (40:05):
Playing against each other in the one on one and
I believe.

Speaker 5 (40:09):
Jeff Peatree from Portland won the whole thing a guard
who because you know, the big guys couldn't guard him.
He was just too quick and he was a great shooter,
and he ended up putting the whole thing. But that
was the thing back in the NBA playing what I
want to How great would that be?

Speaker 4 (40:24):
Now if you did that? Huh?

Speaker 3 (40:26):
Is that the thing you were going back to nineteen
seventy two.

Speaker 4 (40:29):
I'm not the I'm not sure of the year.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
But because I'm looking up, I'm looking up and there's
a Bob Linear versus Jojo White.

Speaker 4 (40:36):
Oh see, how great would that be?

Speaker 3 (40:39):
I could get on board that. Yeah, but like that,
that same kind of thing. If we can have a
little competition that runs in and maybe it's part of
the Leader National Games, how about like.

Speaker 4 (40:49):
Steph Curry against somebody like that.

Speaker 3 (40:51):
Yeah, but I need guys that are going to drive
to the hole.

Speaker 4 (40:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:54):
I don't want it to be outside shooting expedition and
you know exposition uh and and peeditioned along our way
and no, no, that competition bores me. Well, guys that
you know might be able to hit the occasional jump shot,
but otherwise like I'm gonna I'm gonna take you to
the rack. Yahnis and Draymond Green then something like that. Well,
I mean, Draymond seems to be a guy that becomes

(41:15):
part of a dream matchup just for the physicality and
trash talking about all I could get on board that
who's your who's your best? One on one Send us
at Sticking Genius one at Swollen Dome. Still got all
the hated teams because you, I mean, this cathartic for
all of us here coming up next year on Fox
Sports Radio, forth Tirerack dot Com Studios. Hey Baltimore getting
