Speaker 4 (01:18):
You know, I didn't really finish off but one thirty
one when you brought up the temperature, Yeah, last hour,
people going out there. Why would you want to do that?
Just I know you want to say you're in the
Guinness Booker World Records, But that, Mike, I don't know
what's the most temperature, the hottest you've ever been. But
when it was one sixteen, a friend of mine wanted
to play golf. I called it the golf course to go.
You could play for free, or the only one's gonna
(01:40):
be out there. Nobody's out there. I thought it was
gonna pass out. Man.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Well but that's the thing, man, You know, no matter
how hydrated you are, it come and kickshift fast. You're
not in the most of us in the proper physical
conditioning to deal with that kind of heat for any
like the time. Now, I grew up in Chicago, where
you've got a couple of months where it gets really
human and miserable, right where I'll punch in the face.
I remember Mayor daily always having to do these press
(02:06):
conferences and trying to explain how the city was addressing
the needs. Right, they'd open up all these cooling centers
UH to take care of the the unhoused and and elderly,
And every once in a while he'd get and he'd
get frustrated with the question. He's like, what am I
gonna do? It's hot, it's hot. We get it. We're
doing the best we can with no. No, no, no, but
(02:30):
you're you're talking with your you know, the it feels
like I think it's still fry an egg on the sidewalk. Yes,
a kind of thing, but certainly not to one hundred
and thirty one. I mean, that's that's just insanity one
to go there. But I mean there's a lot of
those things that people do that I say, yeah, you
know what, that's not for me, you know that, like
(02:51):
even just as it just as an idea, like yeah, no, conceptually,
you know, it's failing for me. Right right now, Mission
Impossible just went into into theaters, right the latest incarnation?
What is it? The UH? Part one of this final
or at least to this point, the final run for
Tom Cruise and Company. He's joked about making these movies
(03:14):
till he's at least Harrison Ford's age and he stays
in shape or whatever else. But they have that one
scene that they used as a promotional thing during the
NBA draft, like it was everywhere. This stunt they did
in Norway where he evidently did hundreds of these motorcycle
jumps to do the free falling thing, you know with
the parachute. They said he did the parachute thing five
(03:37):
hundred tops, Like, you know what, that's not me. It's
not me. It's not because I'm scared.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
I just don't have it.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
I just don't have it. But he's doing it. Yeah,
Like I just don't have I don't have the interest
in finding out and pushing. Like I never really learned
to properly swim. I can paddle for a while, I
get capsized, you know what, I'm meeting my maker. I
gotta come come to grips with that pretty fast. I'm
sure dark food pretty fast. So getting in a cage
(04:03):
you know, in you know, South Africa with the sharks,
that's that's not for me. I'm out. I know my limits,
I accept my limits.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
It that's for damn sure already.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Alartie I'm fat. Okay, let's let's just call it what
it is. And people have been calling me that in
our sports media world forever video shots I did long
ago at Yahoo into foxsports dot Com, even to the
video now that will show up as part of the
clips that we do as part of the socials here
for the show. Yeah, I mean there's plenty about my appearance.
(04:39):
The camera ads and you know the old joke camera
adds ten pounds, like, well, how many cameras were on you?
You know, all those kind of thing. But I'm leaning out.
I'm getting there. But it's the time. You know, it's
a slow, slow reality. But I'm sure as hell not
looking to get into one hundred and thirty one degree
heat with the body I'm rocking right now.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
You can lose some good way to drop some pounds there.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Yeah, but it's all just gonna be water weight.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
So as soon as I go and I have a
gallon of water and the inevitable milkshake, I get it
all backshake.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Who doesn't have a milkshake?
Speaker 3 (05:12):
After that's it? It's dead. Reckoning was the name. I'm
not trying to promote anything. I haven't seen it yet,
but it was the stunt that everybody kept making. So
to talk about things that just aren't for me, there's
one of them. Let's ride a motorcycle off a cliff
and then hope that the parachute opens and hope that
I'm artful enough to guide it to a safe end.
(05:34):
It's a lot of that's a lot of variables in
my life. I just don't need to that end. The
National Football League, we're gonna start getting into training camps
here in short order. And I charge you with this,
Arnie Spaniard, as we add to our listeners out there
wherever you are, play along with us at Stinking Genius One,
at Fox Sports Radio, and of course at Swollen Dome.
(05:56):
Top five storylines, maybe player, maybe a team, maybe your
coach that's got you excited and curious for the twenty
twenty three season. That has nothing to do with Aaron
Rodgers and the Jets.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Yes, forget right.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
So we stipulate to that because everybody's gonna happen, and I'm.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
Not gonna even put Tom Brady in there if he's
going to return.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
So no, right, So take those two outkay, and we'll
parse those out for me. Let me let me go
we'll go back and forth. Number one for me is
who's quarterbacking the forty nine ers? Okay, right, they've had
all this success. Jimmy Garoppolo has gone. He's now a
member of your Las Vegas Raiders. So Brock Purdy, is
he gonna be ready to go? Trey Lance? Does he
ultimately get dealt? Does he see the field? And then
(06:36):
Sam Sam Sam Darnold, he's only twenty five years old
now with another team. Is he a guy that has
to start the season under center? That is one of
the more intriguing things. He's got a lot of fantasy
relevant players. Right to wrap our arms around all football coverage,
gambling plus fantasy plus what's in between the white lines?
The quarterback position for the forty nine ers? You know,
(06:59):
the plug and play, set it and forget it. Ronco,
See what I did there, bringing back one of the
classics of late night TV. Here, just take your chicken,
put it on my rotisseriy and six hours later, boom
you set it, forget it. It's ready. So there you go.
There's my first one.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
There you go. I'll tell you what I want to see.
What's gonna happen with Denver Sean Payton coming in, and
of course Russell Wilson going back for his second year,
had such a horrible first year. I actually think his
career is pretty much done. I don't think he's ever
gonna go ahead and sniff close to get into a
Super Bowl. I don't even know if he's gonna get
(07:37):
more than a play off win or two the rest
of his career. I'm dying to see what Sean Payton's
gonna be able to do and how he's gonna turn
around the team because that's a hard division. I know
that they got Las Vegas there, but it's still a
tough division when you got Kansas City in that one.
I still don't expect big things from him, but that's
one of the storylines I'm looking at now.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Certainly in the best shape of his life. How many
workout videos have you seen this offseason, and Sean Payton
certainly saying all these things that were in place in
the past aren't here. That was one of my five
as well. Yeah, just you know, is Russ cooked? Because
I didn't think he was very good even though the
numbers was horrible. Look, no, I'm saying the year before, Yeah,
I thought I thought he was already towards his over
(08:19):
ripe then, even though the numbers might not have said
it right, we were already hitting that point. How about
the follow up for the Jaguars, Is Trevor Lawrence really
that guy and his relationship with Doug Peterson? And you
bring in Calvin Ridley and you already have you know,
guy that everybody thought they overpaid for. And then Christian
(08:41):
Kirk went out and was all world. Add the the
backfield with etn you got an offense that looks like
it's ready to go in a couple of big time
defenders on the other side. Divisions there for the taking
and maybe more.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
You know, I wonder how much of that? And I
love Trevor Lawrence. How much was it that he's playing
in a crappy division compared to you? He was playing
in a good division when he put up those type
of numbers. And let's face it, it wasn't like he was
just totally crushing it. You know, they were right there,
you know, an average team but in a below average division.
That's why his numbers look so good.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Well, just always remember, as we talked about earlier in
the week, people got on Brady and the Patriots for that.
For years, you had the same thing for Peyton Manning
in that same AFC South and in the NFC South
with Drew Brees and the Saints. I don't hear those
guys get quite the same criticism. No, Trevor Lawrence, at
least for the moment, has the opportunity.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
And I love him.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
I'm similar you love him. I just well, you know what,
We'll send you a teal jersey. We'll take care of that.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Get a double XCEL on that one. Let me go ahead, go.
I think I still think Bryce Chugun, what he's going
to do with Carolina is going to be key. I
want to see how good he really is. I'm a
big fan of his. I don't know. I don't think
size is going to make a difference. I hope it
doesn't make a difference here, and he's going to show
you what he could do. His skills are unbelievable. But
(10:00):
I'm fifty to fifty, so tells me that this team,
you know, they're not that bad, but it's not like
they're going to make a run of things. I just
hope he doesn't get beat up by like one of
those bad two and fifteen teams or something like that.
I like Bryce Stung. I'm so curious to see what
kind of numbers he's gonna put up his first year.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Always love to see when new blood comes in and
you have all those changes around him. Right, they've really
reformulated that squad. You bring in Miles Sanders to your
backfield and shuffle up your receiving corps as well. So
curiosity there, the division intrigues me as a whole. But
the Cleveland Browns, what is Deshaun Watson and push away?
(10:41):
For the moment we all acknowledge it and how horrent
the behavior is, the accusations. But he's back on the court,
on the field, right, He's back on the field now,
So what is it? What is that connection going to be?
Speaker 4 (10:54):
Was?
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Were those numbers in Houston empty? Because overall the team
was very good. You saw they sold off parts trader
Bill went to work, Bill O'Brien when he was there
when you had that power vacuum. But how much of
a player is he? Is he a top five guy?
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Right?
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Is he really that guy that we thought we saw
a couple of years ago, and working with Cooper and
the receiving corps that you have and Nick Chubb in
the backfield? Can he be that guy? Cleveland's one of
the more interesting teams. And what Deshaun Watson is all
these months later? Can he rediscovered the player it looked
like he'd become.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
But a year later the I'm not gonna say the interest.
But a year later, all the smoke is clear and
not even nobody's even paying attention to him. Mike, you
know what I mean. It's it wasn't like it was
a year ago. I can't wait this guy comes back
to the suspension. Let's see how good or bad he's
gonna be. And all the protests and all that. Now
he's barely people even bring his name up, you know
(11:54):
what I mean?
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Yeah, I mean it's one of those because if you
start getting in and you have to do the deep dive,
then remind everybody of what went on. It's not a
comfortable conversation, right, It's really the worst of humanity, and
one of the things that sometimes with the league lets
people feel a little less than you know, Lovey h
and Peely, you know, Huggy Feeley about the league in
(12:18):
that regard, right, you know, it's it's not a feel
good story. By any stretch. But he's been cleared, he
served his suspension and his time away, and he's back
to play. So I mean, if he plays well, people
will talk about him. If he plays like poorly, they'll
excoriate him.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
One of my five stories and of course my Miami Dolphins.
One are they that good? Are they ready to make
a Super Bowl run? And also is Tua gonna be
concussion free? As he goes the Dolphins will go. He
put up some really really good numbers before he got hurt,
and obviously things started to crumble for Miami. I can't
(12:54):
wait to see what happens with Tua with this team,
how good they are? Do they pick up Dovin Cooked
to solidify really solidify the running back position? Are they
gonna win that division? How far can they go? I'm
just so intrigued about everything about the Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Well, you do have Mike White, the former Jets savior,
yes down there now has his backup should anything.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
That may be important because no, it's going to be
for a couple of games even you know, but I
think for a lot of teams we've hit that point.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Now you've got seventeen games, your backup isn't just a
guy holding the clipboard anymore? How many?
Speaker 4 (13:29):
How many games does a starting quarterback? How many starting
quarterbacks play? Seventeen games?
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Oh, it's very few, right, I mean we used to
do that all the time. Where well, I mean we
used to. I mean I chronicled it a lot when
I was really doing Fantasy heavy. There were a lot
of years when you only had eight or nine guys,
and yet that was the Mannings, Rivers and Brady were
four of them most of the years, right, and then
it became a and Drew Brees for a long while.
(13:54):
So there's five of your eight or nine guys. But
you think about you know, your Lamar Jackson's whatever, you
got twelve to fourteen to fifteen. You're not playing seventeen.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
So probably less than fifty.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yeah, I would say it's lower. We'll have to go
back and do the math. But certainly for Tua, that's
a big You brought up Dalvin Cook. He's on the
asterisk on the outside. And something we talked about a
lot last night. Bill Belichick and the Patriots is one
of mine to watch because Mac Jones, change up in
administration and who's calling plays and how you're running through
(14:29):
and is he really coaching for his life? And is
Mac Jones really any good? You know? Do they bring
in DeAndre Hopkins he gonna be part of this mix.
They've got Juju Smith Schuster, You've got Devonte Parker, two guys.
Smith Schuster has had some big runs and you know
blocks of games in the past. And Devonte Parker is
the guy that was supposed to be the camp miss
(14:50):
for your Dolphins all those years ago, once again showed
up every once in a while when flash, you know,
spectacularly and then disappear. Can they cobble something together there
with Ramandre Stevenson leading the backfield? And are they one
of the teams in the mix for Dalvin Cook?
Speaker 4 (15:08):
You know, whoever gets him, what a what a steal
that's going to be, man. Whether it's a Jets or
Miami or whoever, it's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Man.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
I just can't wait to find out.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Yeah, I haven't pre selected in the sixth round to
see if I can steal him here in this fantasy draft.
I'll let you know, all.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Right, Yeah, let me know on that one. I'll tell
you what you know. Usually the stuff we're mentioning right
now is how good this guy is going to be.
How good is this team is going to be? One
of mine is? How bad are the Raiders going to be?
And I know Plank talks about this on Sundays because
he's a big Raiders fan. He wants them to be
the worst team in the NFL. So they get Kago
Williams with the.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Number one overall, they might have to go fight Arizona.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
I'm starting to think that Arizona might not be all
that bad to be the worst team in the NFL.
The Raiders are pretty I think they're pretty damn bad.
I'm curious to see how bad they really are. Are
they three win team? A six win team? Are they
gonna be the worst team in the NFL to get
that number one pick? I'm I have kind of curious
to what's gonna go out there in Vegas dismal. You know.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
I bring up Arizona because Kyler Murray is a bad story, right,
And we'll talk about him a little more of fuller
breakdown because he's saying some positive things, starting to starting
to get a little more vocal, and that was one
of the complaints about him in the past, but that
he's working well. Larry Fitzgerald, who you don't see a
lot of. He does that thing with Brady and Jim
(16:33):
Gray on Monday nights. Right, if you hear that, but
otherwise you don't hear a lot from Larry Fitzgerald. At
least that's, you know, outside of Arizona, I don't think.
But he made some noise talking about changes in that
locker room and how much Kyler Murray has really embraced
this new staff and they him in terms of different components. Right,
he had a statue of him that went up and
(16:57):
they all traveled for that and all all of these
different things to where there seems to be a bit
of camaraderie. Now. I don't know how early he's getting
on the field, because that's the other question of this,
right got off that injury. How long is he missing
before he's on the field. But a lot of it
goes back to your Raiders and Caleb Williams with Plank
and just that analysis because they may be in the
(17:18):
hunt and then Kyler Murray becomes trade bait.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
Who's worse than the Raiders in Arizona, not if maybe
the Texans.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
But Texans up a lot of stuff. They've got a
lot of young guys and we'll see you know when
you talk about c. J. Stroud and all of that
doesn't work, But now everybody else is, you know, fighting
as the NFL would like you to do. The fight
for five hundred Along the way, he's already spanned your
(17:45):
in for Jason Smith. I'm Mike carmon Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon here from the Tirack dot com studios.
And coming up next, we're gonna talk a little bit
about Tom Brady. Yeah, a uh, former teammate mentioned him
in a podcast and it gets us all excited because
you know, we need hope. Hope is a dangerous thing,
but it fuels the summer months leading into training camp.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
Welcome back in Fox Sports or Radio Jason Smith Show
with me Mike Harmon. There is no Jason Smith to night.
Back in earnest Monday, We'll do a twelve to four shift. Yeah,
a little time shifting the.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
Way you You guys are a big deal.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Well for a day, we can all be heroes, just
for one day. There, I'm stealing from David Bowie along
the way. You like that? That was pretty good.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
I have no idea what you're talking about with us.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
Oh you know what? Yeah, you do? I think you do.
I think you're just a liar. Along the way. As
we float through here on Fox Sports Radio, having a blast.
One of the stories that keeps percolating and you keep
bringing it up is the belief that Tom Brady will
in fact find his way onto a football field. Yeah
(19:45):
here in short or now he's part owners of the
the Raiders. We got that, Mark Davis gets him in.
We've talked a little bit with Jason Cole and a
little bit throughout the week Arnie of everything going on
with the Washington foot team now the Commander's sale and
everything going on there and potential legal hiccups. The John
(20:08):
Gruden emails, the if I'm going down, I'm taking everybody
with me approach to things, stealing straight from Chandler bing
in the Wonderful World of Friends. But when we look
at the Tom Brady situation, I think it's funny because
we have no idea. Like I'd said a little bit earlier,
(20:28):
the hope would be that, yeah, he finds his way
back onto a field, just for curiosity, right, how much
of it last year is your offensive line crumbled so
you've got to get the ball out faster and timing
never really got established. Health of your wide receivers has
been hit or miss for these last couple of years. Overall,
(20:51):
your running back situation. You got Rashad White, who looks
like he might be a guy. He's certainly on everybody's
sleeper lists going forward. On Antoine, Winfield Junior believes that
the Buccaneers are still going to try to coax Tom
Brady out quote, I'm sure we're still reaching out to
him trying to see if he's going to come back
to the team. He was on Richard Sherman, who we
(21:13):
talked about yesterday. See it's all a rich tapestry. You
gotta listen to the whole show. Get the podcast wherever
you get your audio download, give it five stars. We'll
love you forever. Maybe Arnie'll come to your town and
shoot some jump shots in your backyard. But Winfield was
on Richard Sherman's podcast and he said, hey, it could happen.
Anything's possible. After Sherman said that he doesn't put anything
(21:37):
past Brady, Winfield said, quote, it's up in the air.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Man. I believe him. I totally believe him with the
smoker's fire. And I believe that the Bucks have tried
to reach out to Brady and reach out to him
and talk to him about coming out of retirement. I
bet you, there was probably more than one team that'll
reach out to Tom Brady to talk to him to
come out of retirement. If you're Tom Brady, and I
know it's hard to put ourselves in a position like that,
(22:00):
but you're a extremely attractive looking guy. You're now single.
If I'm in his position, I feel like I got
a couple more years left. Why wouldn't I want to
come back now? Maybe I wouldn't want to play for
the Raiders. And by the way, did I hear that
correctly today that that officially him being part owner has
not officially gone through and they're not gonna be able
to get it done at the next owner's meeting. So
(22:22):
I wonder how long that that hold up's going to be.
But maybe I don't want to play for the Raiders,
But I would think about returning to Tampa Bay and
giving it another year or two. And you know, and
see what I got left there. I don't see why
he wouldn't unless there's some injury that he's got that
we don't know about, a nagging injury. I would definitely
give it another year or two now that I'm single,
(22:43):
You know what I mean, Mike.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Well, that's the curiosity right, the relationship with his kids
and what the the restrictions slash opportunities could right, because
we got to take it from the positive, the opportunities
to be part of their lives. But certainly geographical in
time wise, there may be some commitments that are.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Don't the kids go to school, I mean what they
go to school? They don't get.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
It'll go around twenty four to seven. I don't know
about how school works out there, extra.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Curricular activities up, they don't come home and exactly three.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
But you don't think that he might want to be
part of that. I mean, come on, I'm not outluck.
My kids still want to hang out with me now
and again, wait their teenagers. Now, I got I got
a girl that just graduated high school, and I've got
a girl going on her sophomore year. They can't get
enough of hanging out with the old man.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Well, there you go. You're very lucky.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Let me tell you that I'm a wonderful human being.
People are just drawn to me. Moncey's is giving me
the masco manis you know, a little plus and minus
going over there in the studio, And.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
Maybe he does want to go ahead and spend more
time with the kids.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
But I or with Kim Kardashian. If that's reality, don't.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
Don't don't start with that again. Please tell me.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
That we had the odds. The other day we talked
about it.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
I saw a video that says he just like brushed
her off and that he just gave her the booty.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
Would you also have Emily Redkowski was at that party
in evidently he was schmooz the limit. But I mean
it's also this is a perfect time for us as
we talk about, Hey, we'd like to have Brady. I
don't rule anything out. I mean, look at the state
of NFL quarterbacking. No, even if you thought he had
dropped off from what Tom Brady should be, you tell
me he's not better than still half the league if
(24:25):
you can keep it right, I mean if but to
hear people talk about it in our business because hot
take nonsense sells that he was done, he was cooked.
It's like, give me an offensive line of five dancing
bears that can actually protect and you can get the
timing down with your receivers. I think there's some football left.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
I wish I could bet on it. I know you
could do it. Maybe overseas. But I wish I could
get like six to one, ten to one odds or
something like that. I'd put down some shekels that he
comes back and plays, plays a game or something like that.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
Let's see is there still an open and odds here?
Because I saw in March. I remember in March and
April we talked about it a little bit, and I
could find that really quick where it was still stays
retired was minus one thousand, ninety probability. The Dolphins were
in there for a bit, right because of Tua. Well, yeah,
(25:19):
and you look at Hill and Waddel and the type
of routes they run, not that they don't go for
the big hit now and again, but a lot of
that is timing and getting those guys on the fly
so they can turn on the jets and just keep
plying even moster. And you look at the guys in
the backfield, the forty nine ers, his hometown, always talking
about being out of San Mateo. They were thirty to one,
(25:44):
and then the Patriots and a return being forty to one,
and then the field sitting at thirty five to one.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
Wow, that was back in March.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
I haven't seen anything updated on that, but to got
to give you just a little sketch of what that
that is was looking like as we got into the
off season.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
You know, by the way you said he wants to
spend more time with his kids. I'm just curious who
we are in the summertime. Did he bring his kids
to the party too?
Speaker 3 (26:09):
You can still don't don't beat that guy the kids.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
I don't know if the kids went to the maybe
they had.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Their own room and they were the kids of everybody else.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Kids stay here at the hotel that he's going out tonight.
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
I don't know if his oldest kid with Bridget Monahan,
was there. He's old enough to supervise you like that.
What would happen if you.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
Got into a party like that and like just somebody
walked up and said, Hey, I'm Tom Brady, who are you?
How are you?
Speaker 3 (26:38):
I haven't met him in that capacity. I've met him
a couple of times way back in the day training
camp and going back to the East West Shrine game.
But at that point he was just a guy right right.
He was at Michigan, and he was a guy that
well maybe, but he was a Michigan man. Uh, and
he was. It was on the Stanford campus actually when
I was starting to work for Yahoo. Uh, and they
(26:58):
still had the East West Shrond game up in the
Bay Area. Uh. They'd be on the Stanford you know
fields where you'd have you know, innermural soccer and all
of that played, and literally you can just walk up
on the sideline. That's how security was at that point.
So I'm literally just standing as these guys. Are friends
with them, No, but it was just funny because there
(27:20):
was one day I'm just watching and I've got my
you know, my arms folded. I'm just standing on the
side of All of a sudden, a guy, Hey, how
you doing that? And I look over. It's Jerry Jones,
and we did we start talking. He goes hey, hey,
that kid, you know, and he started asking me about
you know, one of the guys was from Iowa, right,
so I knew about the player, and like, look, I'm
(27:42):
not here at an official capacity. But they come and
they hand us rosters and then all of a sudden,
he goes, hey, uh, you know, and I introduced myself.
He goes hey, let me introduce you over here. It's
Bret Jones. So all of a sudden, I'm standing there
with these guys, former forty nine ers, legend, and I
feel like a big shot. Stand it was pretty good.
(28:03):
I like, that's a long time ago. That's when I
was helping run and build all the the fantasy and
sports site and side of the Yahoo world.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
I have ever told you. I make this real quick
because you've probably heard this. No, no, no, it's not
the Genie Bus Steve Kerr story. I was. I was
doing a remote in Phoenix. A buddy of mine played
for the Buffalo Bills. He brings a guy to lunch
who's in the bye week, and I'm talking to him.
I go, what do you do? He goes, I play
in the NFL, and I'm busting his chops. I go, really,
(28:34):
I go, so do I? You know? Because I'm just
I don't believe in believe he's in the NFL. I go,
what position do you play? Because I'm a quarterback? I go, yeah,
so am I you know? And he you know I have?
And he looks at my friend. He goes, this guy serious,
like he wants to like punch me or something. I go,
I go, you look more like a third string punter.
But I'll tell you what. I like you. You're a
good guy. I go, if this football thing doesn't work out,
(28:55):
come back to me. We'll give you a job here
in sales. We'll go play golf every day. That person
was bred Farv. So but it was it was before
Brett Farv was Bred Farv. But you know, I want
you to know.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
That when he was hanging out with Glanville back and
it was.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
It was just I think it was what he was
just traded, uh what he was what in Atlanta or something.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
Been in Atlanta and that's where he originally started.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
Exactly, And I think he had just got done with Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
And going to Glanville had gotten rid of him. And
you know where you go. I was just busting his chops.
Oh it's great.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
I just and I ended up having dinner with him
at a steakhouse back a long time after that up
in up in the Green Bay. There you go, Yeah,
there you go.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Kind of a big deal.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
I was busting his chops. Man.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Well, I mean, if you had an opportunity to talk
to him again, you got a whole lot of other conversation.
You can had some a little uh out and left
field and some really what what did you know, how
did you do this? And tell me about it?
Speaker 4 (29:51):
And that's not the only Hall of Famer I busted
chops with.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Yeah, no, later, where's where's the book?
Speaker 4 (29:58):
I should I should put it in a book.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
I mean, based on the people that keep writing me
on Twitter at Swollen Dome to tell me how much
they love you. I mean, yeah, I mean that's a
book sale, and I mean think about you at a
book signing. We'd all show up. Yeah, Aready's gonna read
from chapter three? You know, I was an extra on
(30:20):
this movie in the Valley a long time ago at
Stick and Genius one where you find them on Twitter.
Find me over at Swollen Dome. Coming up next. You
know we were talking about who might be the worst team
in football this year. Well, they're certainly not gonna have
empty pockets. Even if they are. We'll talk about that
coming up next, but first it's Mansee Belanos with an
(30:42):
update on what's going on on this first day of
the second half baseball season.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
You're right right now.
Speaker 6 (30:48):
We got three games going on and it was a
tie game in Anaheim as shows Angels, but Houston has
taken the lead. It's seven to four. They're about to
start the sixth inning show he O Tawani is no
longer pitched. He pitched five innings, gave up five hits,
four errors, and struck out seven. He's also hitting because
he's a two way star, and so far he's two
(31:08):
for three batting. The twins in the A's are tied
at three apiece bottom of the fifth inning in Oakland.
The Mariners are officially on the scoreboard, but the Tigers
are still up three to two. They're about to start
the seventh inning in Seattle. Now, you guys were talking
about Tom Brady and Kim Kardashian.
Speaker 5 (31:26):
Yeah, No.
Speaker 6 (31:28):
The relationship I want to talk about that's circulating is
Jimmy Buckets and Shakira.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
T of my favorite human beings in the history of mankind.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
I love it all.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
Good look good guy, Jimmy him.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Shakira rules. She should be doing halftime at the Super
Bowl every year, every year, every year. You want to
talk about a tour that I am excited about, Right, Mike,
I've got my kids gonna go to Taylor Swift. We've
got all this worked out. Shakiro's next tour, let me Go, I'm.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Down, doesn't have one out yet.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
Right, no, no, yeah, yeah, yeah, she's a mermaid.
Speaker 6 (32:06):
Yes, come on, yes, who doesn't love Shakita?
Speaker 4 (32:09):
You just first, when I heard that, I go waited.
I thought that was Russell Wilson's wife. What's going on?
But I was like, oh, come on, come on, but
that's the relationship.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
I garab.
Speaker 6 (32:22):
I don't care about Tom Brady and Kim Kardashian, two
billionaires getting getting it on.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
I don't care about that.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
They're billionaires.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
I don't understand what that life is.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Just get past all that tax trouble she did.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
Oh that's right, that's right.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
You know I wasn't.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
I forgot you forget about that when.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
You know what, I'm a nerd. I remember I love her.
Speaker 6 (32:43):
Well, guys, I think at Wimbledon, the final that everybody
wanted in the men's is actually what we're gonna get.
It's gonna be the top two players in the world,
thirty six year old Novak Djokovic and twenty year old
Carlos Alkaaz who makes it look so easy you think
he's got you, and then man, he's just so good.
Both of them won their semi final matches today in
straight sets at the Scottish Open. Rory McElroy is in
(33:05):
the lead after the second round at ten under par,
and the Tennessee football program may have avoided a bowlband,
but the NCAA issued penalties for more than two hundred
individual infractions that occurred under former coach Jeremy Pruitt, including
an eight million dollar fine, five years of probation, and
a scholarship reduction.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Back to you guys, Yeah, we're gonna do that one
in twenty minutes. That's the biggest clown show of the ruling.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
Undelow, what kind of in charge?
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Yeah, there's two hundred infractions. What's the fun? Eight million?
Speaker 2 (33:34):
Yes, old band?
Speaker 3 (33:35):
Oh and the best with the scholarships. And we'll get
into this deeper in twenty minutes. Alreadie, I love the
way it reads. You lose all these scholarships, but you
know what, it's got to be a minimum of two
per year, So legitimately they could just say, all right,
for these four years, there's two a year. We'll take
one huge hit here and then we're back to business
as usual. It's such a clown show.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
It's like what I borrow money from my mother in
Law's tell you about ten dollars a botne that you
know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Send her a bottle of glitter. Sira at Bonzi at
Manzi blagis when we get back into Shakira Jimmy Butler,
the New Power Couple. A little bit later. We'll bring
her back in as we discussed that. But coming up next,
thirty thousand dollars for a suite to watch a terrible
football team. I don't think that's a bad deal, Am
(34:25):
I wrong? We'll talk about it coming up next here
as we continued live from the tire rack dot Com.
Fox Sports Radio studios.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Friday Night Dance Party here Fox Sports Radio. Jason Smith's
Show with Mike Harmon. Well that's me no Jason Smith tonight,
which means the stake and Genius himself Arnie span your
in his is stead at sneak and Genius on is
where you find him in the Twitter verse. Are you
starting to move a little bit? I am a little
(35:06):
chair dancing.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
I am moving, baby, I'm ready to Row. I'm ready
to go clubing tonight.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
You know another tour that we're looking forward to here,
Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, and Pitt Bull. Are you in sure?
Speaker 4 (35:20):
Why not? It didn't Well, you got to remember the
last concert I went to. I think it was like
Madness the Police and Thompson Twins. I think, look at you.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Like that, that's pretty good. That's really I mean, Ty,
you're sitting there wearing a tears for fear.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Suret I like that.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
They were just in Saint Louis. I missed them by
a couple of days when I was traveling in the Midwest.
Just this last I.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
Did see Elton John and uh, Billy.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
I know you did bring that up before. I saw
Elton John at Dodger Stadium last November. A big deal.
My kids and I we shared that one may or
may not have wet my eyes a little bit. I
celebrate them all, Arnie, because you got to catch them
while you can't.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
All kinds concerts we do.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
We love live events, man, you get the thrill of
it all together.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
Did you go to Taylor Swift?
Speaker 3 (36:15):
Did you now? Yeah, that's coming to LA next month.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
So you've got tickets and you're ready to roll.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
We've we've figured out a way.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
Pretend like you're a waiter and sneaking through the back.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
No no, no, no like. So fortunately you had the circumstance
whereby you had all those issues with Ticketmaster. They kicked
out a bunch of bots, so there was a second sale,
so I was able to get my kids tickets there.
I will probably still need to buy a single or
I'm gonna make friends with all the moms and people
out in the parking lot.
Speaker 4 (36:43):
So you have to like work, you have to mortgage
the house for those tickets.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
No no, no, I paid face. I could actually flip them
over at a great rate, right, really do.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
That tell the kids? Sorry, kids, daddy needs to make
some money.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
You know what this is? This is for me, right,
but Arnie, I mean in all seriousness, I mean there
is part of it to say, hey, cool, because we're
actually planning something around Taylor for next year and trying
to pull something off knock Wood. But in the interim,
you know, it's like for me getting to see the Stones,
getting to see McCartney Ringo star those guys and Elton
(37:18):
John right, being able to go see those acts the
police when they got back together at Dodger Stadium with
the food fighters opening all of that stuff. I mean,
that's me, you know, and that's my my history, my culture,
my my heart, right, So I got to experience that
for Taylor Swift, the way these kids.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
Are into it right as of.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
Like dissecting lyrics. Who's this about? Is the poison still there?
All of that the re releases like there there's a
celebration and a camaraderie that you know, it's what we
get in sports, right and here musically you get the
same thing, right, that commiseration, you know, three and a
half hour show.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
Buddy, Yeah, I know she lives out in Malleable, but
she's got it. She a umongous plays out in Maine
out of here.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Oh I know. I've got a buddy of mine that
that well, his daughter goes to school with mine. We
go for walks and whatever and commiserate over a beer
now and again. His family isn't too far from her,
so they've seen her, you know, from a distance out
on the islet. But there's always paparazzo. And now these
dorks with their drones, like I want to start shooting
(38:25):
them out of the sky. Oh my good, leave her alone,
all right, But we talk about live events Allegiant Stadium,
home to what might be the worst team in football
this year, the Las Vegas Raiders. Right now we're talking
about sweets opening up thirty grand for a suite, and
based on a little bit of research, you're talking about
eighteen to twenty six people in a suite. That it's
(38:47):
not bad, right, I mean, because you're gonna get the food,
the booze, and you're gonna get a good vantage point.
So you're talking, based on that math, somewhere between eleven
hundred and say sixteen fifty per seat as a time experience.
Speaker 4 (39:01):
That's a bargain, you know. I heck, I remember I
was going to go to the hotel. We were going
to one of the topless pools. They wanted that much
for just a cabana, and they.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
Think I think that a special army spaniard pricing.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
No, that that.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
Kind of event was going on there. Yeah, there had
to be something.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Yeah, No, At first I thought that was a lot
of money. But when you say up with twenty six
people or something.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
Like that, it says eighteen to twenty six people in there.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
That's nothing for high rollers in Vegas.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
I mean so, I mean perhaps it's a little bit
more for you know, and we usually put those in
an annual basis.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
You should get one.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
I work, I work in late night radio with you, Arnie.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
You spent it all on Taylor Swift.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
Look, I'll find the receipt. You'll laugh at how little
I actually spent.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
Ye good for you.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
Every once in a while, the good guys win good
for you like that. I didn't win that third ticket though.
Getting that was hard because I'd love to go to
the show with them. But again, if I'm out in the.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
They'll get over it.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
If I if I parking lot dressed like WWE superstar
and Champion Seth Rollins and exchanging friendship bracelets with the
fellow people in the parking lot, I don't think that's
a bad way to go either.
Speaker 4 (40:11):
Why do I get a feeling they're gonna be enjoying
the concert, They're not gonna be thinking about you? Does
the guest there, Mike.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Once they pass that threshold and once my credit card
has been dinged merged by, yeah, it's all bets are
off there. He's Arnie, I'm Mike coming out next. Yeah.
We gotta get into this Tennessee nonsense. What a joke,
but I'm not laughing. We'll talk about it next on Fox.
