Speaker 3 (00:26):
You know, sometimes your friends are just unnecessarily cruel. I'm
into a beautiful Friday night here. Yeah Sports Radio. There's
no Jason Smith tonight. It's another another night of the
sticking genius. I blocked you. Yes, there will be another
text message that finds its way through to me on
(00:48):
my telephone after another.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Veries you're like text, I told you yesterday.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
My kids thought something was wrong, like, what's going on?
Someone's sick in the family. Did we have an issue?
Everybody's good. Welcome in. It's a beautiful Friday night to
Jason Smith Show with me Mike Harmon here on Fox
Sports or Radio.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
I'm I'm not driving, you know what.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Don't start with me.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
I thought I was driving. My bad I'm sorry they
told me I was driving today, did they? Yeah, there
you go.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
I wonder there's so many text message here's all the
stuff I think I want to talk about.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
There you have it.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
That's sticking genius wine. Where you find him on Twitter?
Find me over at Swollen Dome. And the the friend
comment is to my my good friend Mancy Malan's over
there and she joined us in tonight on the national
update desk. And instead of playing a Dodger highlight beating
the Mats, I know Smith's not here. Yeah, let's talk
(01:50):
about the Braves beating the hell out of the White
size here it is in grand fashion. Where's the love?
I mean, where's the support? Where's the emotional support for
a guy whose team is catering that all it's positive,
popular and well meaning and well established players are all
(02:13):
going away in the next two weeks. Perhaps to her Dodgers. No,
I get, but get that highlight.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
But doesn't it matter that it's against the best team
so you have nothing to be ashamed of.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yes, it just adds to the shame that was already there.
And it just shows you how big that gap stopped.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
He treated me at the start of my update.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Well, the attempt was to try to break her care.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Yes, you should have seen the gesture I received. You're horrible.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
She had it coming.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
You didn't think about it.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
When you did that, I was like, what Ogi took.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
A second approach of what we do here. There you go.
Welcome in, Manzi, good to see you too. Welcome to
the second half of the Major League Baseball season. Not
really a half. We got one about seventy games. I
think we should.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Change anything you want to talk about. We should do
four hours on you apologizing to me about how I
was right about all that stuff coming about out on Otana.
You must have been like, oh my goodness, how did
he know this was all coming out today?
Speaker 3 (03:17):
It's crazy what all came out that people are taking
or making.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Stop it stop it, no, no, no, stop it.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
You paused.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
I told you yesterday.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
And I told you and I've said it for months. Yes,
the phone rings, you answered the call.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
I told you, I go Look, they're going to go ahead.
He had to talk with the angels. I want to
see it come out. I want these insiders doing their job. Boom.
Today we got the do.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
I know you're not the rat, I mean the leak,
I mean whatever term you want to put on it.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
No, but you saw it now, there's no I'm not
one hundred and two percent sure that Otani won't be
on the Angels by the time the trade.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Do you're gonna bet on this? Oh? I bet that
usually doesn't go very well on Sunday night.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
Trust me, trust me, I hear the percentages are bad.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
The wall, my friends, I mean, you've bet your job
nine thousand times.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
If you haven't paid off yet, sooner or later, I'll
be right. But I'm telling you you can you can
see what's going on. I mean, do you see you
saw the articles today, Mike. I'm not making this on
Wells and that's where we're starting. We're broadcasting live from
the tire act dot Com. Student tire act dot com
will help you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installars. Tire
(04:35):
act dot com the way tire buying should be. And
of course, yes, a lot of talk today, why because
it's the we're open for business. In the second half,
it was almost like there was a moratorium on being
able to really get into trade chatter other than maybe
maybe not No, now we put some names on it,
We put some teams and try to link people together.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
We start the rumor mill. You saw all the games
that we've already been talking about this week, Arnie, you
and I, Sono and Aeronato and all these guys, and
of course Shoho Tani is front and center. He's pitching tonight.
We're watching it bottom of the second right now, Angels
have two runners on in a scoreless game over in Anaheim.
(05:18):
I know a lot of excitement crowds there.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
Oh, they sold out. They saw those games. Every time
he pitches.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
I don't know if it's to sell it, but they
sure do pack him in like I haven't gotten a
full shit. I don't know. I don't know. Well it should,
but I don't have the full report. I got to
imagine that they're they're dangerously close.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Let me tell you something. You would think he'd be
on the same levels like Fernando Mania, which I've never
seen anything like that in my entire life. People people
are like buying tickets just when they thought he would
be pitched, like four days later or something.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Well, it's the monstrous fan base that is the Dodgers,
I mean works over with the squad as you can
tell you how many people come flying through because they
want to see the trophies and the gold gloves, the
World Series Championship trophies and all that stuff, the jerseys
on the wall and everything. I mean, it's an experience.
The Angels, They've got some great history and some great
(06:10):
players in their past, but it's nothing the same. They
are down by Disneyland and on a night like tonight.
As you see the scrolls of advertisement, most of them
are in Japanese. There's an awful lot of signage that
has sold a behind home plate man. There's Jersey mics
on one side, and then there's a technology company I
believe if I read the bottom line correct. But the
(06:31):
rest of the ad is in Japanese. So I mean
you got that and that flows through. But certainly a
huge crowd for this one, a lot of anticipation as
to what the Angels are going to be able to do.
As the second half gets going, once again, Rendon goes
to the il Surprise, surprise. You know, he has played
(06:53):
in fewer games in three years with the Angels two
and a half then he did his final year with
the Washington Nationals.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
I'd like the what is he getting paid per game
or something?
Speaker 3 (07:06):
But I mean, I remember Smith and I were on
air when the news started flowing down of what he
was gonna get paid. It's like, what are we doing here?
But especially when you got Otani in the offing down
the line, and that's where we're at. As we roll through,
you look at the scoreboard for the day and some
of the teams that you're chasing. Toronto gets a win,
(07:26):
Tampa Bay and Kansas City got rained out, so Tampa
not on. Seattle's gonna start in a little while here.
But you go on it and you're trying to play
the checkers and chess and all of this and watching
it all flow to me, there's still that outside shot
with a little bit of a run because look, they're
not all world beating teams ahead right right.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
That's all the.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Argument that we have with the NBA, and it's like, well,
these guys are gonna be great. It's like, well, there's
like seven teams that are like not the same, right
in the Western Conference, or eight teams that are the same.
Everybody's chasing Denver, So it would seem likewise here in
the American League, rays have comeback to the pack. The
Orioles had a three to one lead last I looked
(08:08):
in the seventh inning, so you've got a couple of
teams up there. Otherwise it's cannibalization, which may afford itself
the opportunity for the Angels to at least be competitive. Now,
do they get into the playoffs? No, I'm not quite
so bold to predict that that's it, especially if Trout's
out indefinitely, right, if he doesn't come back till September first,
I mean, that's a whole other ballgame, not that he
(08:29):
was lighting the world on fire here in twenty twenty
three anyway, But to me, I still go back to
are you talking about your baseball team? Are you talking
about your business? That's the question that Ardi Morino has
to answer.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Well, look, first of all, I have a better chance
of dating supermodels before the Angels make a move. And
I know people say, well, let's go ahead and wait,
like two three weeks closer to the trade deadline, let's
see if our team makes a move. You know, sometimes
one game is all it takes to realize you're behind
the eight ball.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Like I mean, like losing.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
One hit today, I think, what did they get the hit?
The first or second? And if you didn't watch the
rest of the game. You didn't miss anything. Well, you
also had Verlander. He had right, he had a no
ititter going on until what like the fifth inning or something.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Yeah, he's cruising along and then he walks the basest.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
Well you already walked four before that. But I'm just like,
there you go, amazing, one hit, one hit U. I
don't even need to see what the next two to
three weeks brings me. I I I know, you gotta
be sellers. It's it's time to move on for the Mets.
But I don't have to go ahead and wait for
the next two to three weeks. You know, it's like
seeing a girl cross the room, and you may know
(09:36):
right away if you want a data or you don't
want a dator right well, you know what, I don't
have to wait to see what the Angels are gonna
go ahead.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
And do because it's only seven o'clock on the West coast.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Yeah, yeah, I stopped right there. Yeah, I just stopped
it right there. But Otani's gone. Now you have to
see what you're gonna get for him. I like that.
That one rumor about the Bleacher Report put out about
the five Dodger prospects. What did I say yes.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Anyway?
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Well, but I said yes today, I'd say pick any
four prospects you want and a fifth one from Double A,
and let's go ahead and make a move. That's nothing.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
No, that's what I'm saying. I'm starting to think this
is the equivalent of your burner accounts.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Report I write for them. Yeah, I saw that.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Right, But legitimately, Arnie, I mean, when we're talking about
what is proper compensation, there's nothing right. I mean, it's
the the old Prince penned Snad O'Connor hit. Nothing compares
to you because there's nothing comparing to what Showani gets,
uh and what he is to your major League baseball team.
So when you're trying to figure out what what are
(10:41):
the comps when you're gonna make a deal. Yeah, yeah,
give me all the draft picks you want. It's it's
all folly.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Yeah, But the comps are different, Like if the Dodgers
trade for Otani or Seattle trades form, they have a
better chance of keeping him, you know in that yeah, yeah,
but the Angels don't care about that.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
No.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
But but the math is completely different right between other
teams and what the Dodgers are maybe what the Mariners
can do. You start looking at the Giants, what the
Rickets family can do in Chicago. I mean you start
going through between prospect rankings and where the management of
the team is, what their commitments are to other players
(11:20):
going forward, and we keep trying to figure out in
the process Shoho Tani. While he doesn't have no trade,
you know it gets alongside that Dame Lillard thing. You
want to do right by him to a degree, but
you also want to get the best deal possible that
you can. Whether the other team can resign them or not,
you don't care. You need to be made as whole
(11:42):
as possible. And all of that is gonna ring hollow
when all of those advertisers come back for the final
two months of the season saying, he ain't here, I
want my cash back.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
No, I understand it, But let me ask you this.
Suppose you're Ardie Moreno, I'm gonna put you in his shoes,
right yeh And and your advisors come up to you
and say, hey, what are you doing. You could trade
him if you want, but if there's one rule is
you can't trade him to the Dodgers. You can't trade
him to the Dodgers. What does Marino say, why if
I'm gonna get the most of them or you're like,
(12:12):
you're right, I can't trade them across that. I can't
do that. What do you do.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Again, Arnie? The question that I ask, and it's the
one that Arnie Moreno has to look in the mirror.
He's got to look at the people across the boardroom tables.
Is am I running a business? Or do I trying
to win as a baseball team.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Well, there's a lot of teams that don't like to
trade within their division. Mic, A lot of people do
a lot of all sports.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Right, But this is this is three things going on, right,
Let's add the third. It's the business of baseball in
terms of what Otani means cash flow wise for the
rest of this year.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Right.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Then the holding out the outside hope that he likes
what he has enough in Anheim, because remember he's he's
extolled the virtues and praise upon every team he's been
asked about, so anybody that says they have a leader, right.
He loves Mookie Betts, he loves Seattle, he loves this,
he loves everybody. He loves everybody he's played it, absolutely
likes me. He may come through this show, he might
(13:06):
come hang out.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
He's got an open invite. If he wants to come
up to five, that's great. But but the idea being
that you've got the business side of it of all, right,
here's what it means for our financials, Here's what it
means for our relationships with our advertisers and sponsors, and
what he means to the clubhouse because everybody, everybody says
he's the greatest teammate, right and they love him, all
(13:27):
of those things. So all of that comes into play.
You're like, well, we may lose him, so we got
to get what we can get. That's the baseball side
and winning with him. So we get into that whole
thing of well, if we get four prospects, how much
closer does that get us to win?
Speaker 4 (13:41):
But does it doesn't it hurt a little bit more
for you trade him to the Dodgers and Dodgers go off.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
If you'd let me finish the point, that's the fact pointing, Well,
you know what you keep interrupting. I gotta be able
to reset one, two, three, and three. Is the Dodgers
up the five that you're already the little brother too.
In every reconversation, always forever, you're gonna trade him up
there for again, the Magic Beans. Just because they were
(14:07):
great prospects for you, doesn't mean they all become all
stars at the major league level. And then he does
not only maybe lead them to a World Series this year,
but then they're able to retain him for a decade,
and you got to look up the five at him
for a decade. If you're already Marina, you like the
hell with that. Just when Pride comes in, Pride starts
(14:27):
screwing with you. Remember the scene in pulp fiction. Yeah,
it's like you feel that that's Pride blanking with you.
And that's what Ardy Marina would have to do every
time he saw Shoe a Otani in a Dodgers uniform.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Suppose the Magic Beans turned out to be worth the
whole heck of a lot and it helped the Angels
in a big time way. You never brought that up though, right.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
But again it's the wishing, wanting and hoping. You and
I have been in this business a long time. There's
been a lot of can't miss a generational prospects. History's
littered with them, And I mean that by that, by
the point that as professionals, some people would call him trash.
How do you like that?
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Was that not poetic? That was poetic though. Look I
understand that, but you're looking I'm dominating.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
That's the only one's that So I think you're getting
in return is a bunch of prospects. And it's not
like you've done any researching to them. The Dodgers, and
they'd have a good history of having some guys.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
I'm not saying. I'm not saying they don't, but where
has most of their success been coming up to the
big leagues? Where the Dodgers continue and you're in that
same coaching tree, you're in that same philosophical place, and
you're in a place that can both bring up prospects
and spend a lot of money to finish off a roster.
(15:44):
All of that plays together. Not a lot of teams
can offer that, which means it's not a one to
one apples to apples of Hey, this guy is great
in the Dodgers organization and then false flat on his face.
I think a lot of people right now would be
looking at Miguel Vargas and going, well, there's a guy
that was supposed to be a camp miss ain't working
out quite so well this year, is it?
Speaker 4 (16:03):
No? But I want to say this, When you told
me you were watching the game, I'm like, well, where
can I put it on? It? Is that on Nasal?
Speaker 3 (16:09):
It's on Bally Yeah exactly, because well but if you
have the package you should be able to watch.
Speaker 5 (16:14):
No.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
But if he was pitching for like the Yankees or
the Dodgers, somehow, that'd be on.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Is there a National Friday Game?
Speaker 4 (16:23):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
All right, there's a big meeting going on that I
am not privy to here in the Fox Sports Radio studio,
So I got to figure out what's going on. Arnie.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
Welcome back in Fox Sports. It's a radio Jason Smith
Show with me, Mike Harmon, Arnie Spanier in Jason Instead,
You've got defenders in the Twitter verse. Arnie uh oh,
quit blanking with Arnie bad radio. Dude, do better? Because
I asked you to stop so I could finish my point.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
I have to agree with that guy. I'm sorry, I
have to agree with him.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
So anybody that goes by the great One, and you're
not the Rock or Wayne Gretzky, you know, I appreciate
you listening. Look, say what you need to. I'll take
the good, take the bad, take the ugly, and come
out swinging in the next round.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
But the one thing I did want to say about that, Mike,
just I know you're wrapping that up, but there was
so many experts that say, no way the Angels are
gonna trade on Toddy, not gonna happen. They're just gonna
go ahead and keep him a walk away. He'll have
too much egg out of his face. They couldn't have
been more wrong, because he well, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
But well no, But that's the point, Arnie. It's still
at this point a wait and see what happens. Because
if we didn't get talked that there were at least
trade discussions, then every GM in Major League Baseball should
be fired, as should the Angels be right, as should
the ownership, and everybody else be called to the carpet,
at least for not taking calls like, I'm not surprised
(19:18):
we're hearing, Hey, this is what it's gonna take. That's
what we do for here in sports talk radio and television.
So if people weren't calling the GM to say, hey,
we'd like to at least make an offer on Otani,
I mean they're they're not doing their jobs.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
He'll be in a Dodger uniform in three weeks.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
I like the boldness of the proclemaks.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
Go get your tickets now, and you'll you'll be able
to go ahead and sell it for a profit.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
See how you're playing ticket arbitrage with Ardie.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
Go get your tickets now, because that it will be
sold out at Dodger Stadium when he pitches. Look, when
he plays, it's gonna be crazy enough, it's gonna be
it's gonna be great. He'll be in a Dodger u
for in about three weeks.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
So yeah, and the possibility. Look, I don't deny any
of it. I look at it from the the business
side of it and the psychology of it as opposed
to the all right, from the pure baseball move.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Yeah, if you don't think you have him it wants
to be there, then yes, you should go trade him
for what you can get. But I would argue, you know,
the the human side of it comes in as well
the business side of it. Of I'm going to bleed
every time out before I acquiesced that he's not going
to sign with us versus we don't win with him
(20:35):
and Mike Trout anyway, what are these three or four
or five prospects and a bag of magic beans gonna
do to get us over?
Speaker 4 (20:43):
In case you didn't know this, let'd me let you
in on a little secrett along with the listeners out there.
The reason these stories are getting leaked out today one
because they probably didn't want to go ahead and you know,
ruin the All Star Game for everybody. Two, it's because
Otani's people probably already told the Angels and Artie moreno goodbye,
we're moving on.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Ye oh yeah, how about this secret option? See behind
the other door, it's the second half of the season starting,
and they don't have another damn thing to talk about.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
No no, no, no, oh.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
No no no.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
Yeah. Because because telling me whether Juan Soto is getting
traded right now from the Padres has his same shoice
as that, are you kidding me? I who moves the
needle like him. Nobody, No, you start writing articles. I
mean it's like the the Asenin and NFL articles that
we read all the time. I mean, we're still getting guys,
and we'll talk about it a little bit later. Players
(21:37):
saying I don't know Tom Brady could still come back, And.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Yeah, I gave you that article.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
I saw had the article I thought I gave you
because you spammed me from the moment you woke up.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
I could do four hours on Tom Brady coming back.
I told you that. I just brought that up. Yes,
I really think somebody must have been listening. Yes, they
just took took all our topics. We said yesterday, Hey,
would that be great if Tom came back out of
the league.
Speaker 3 (22:02):
But it's one of those stories that as we get
closer to training camp, you're gonna hear that from a
million different places. You know, he's secretly after he made
passes at Kim Kardashian at the Fanatics party while wearing white,
he took a white football that they painted and he said, hey, guys,
let's have a catch.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
I mean, there's something wrong with me then, because I
believe he's gonna play, maybe I just fall for all this,
all this nonsense of Blogoni, But I really feel that
Tom Brady's gonna play football again, some way, somehow again.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Is it out of the realm of possibility? No, As
a pragmatic man, I say, I don't think so. But
in the wishing, wanting, hoping, yes, because Arnie one of
the great truths of Tom Brady. If he were to
extend his NFL career, Yeah, I'm not old so long
as he's still in the game. At forty six years old. Wow,
(22:55):
I still feel like I still have a spring in
my step. Soon as he retired and we have the
the next oldest guy is a few years his junior.
Like we're talking Aaron Rodgers, we go down to forty,
that gap between me and him is a lot bigger.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
I forget what, I forget what former Oh I see that,
I forget what former players said. That he thinks Lebron
could play the fifty if he wants to take a deferent.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
There are a lot of people like the There are
players and then certainly his agent. And to that point,
you know, basketball is a different game, right you can
you could play a few minutes if he's willing to
take on.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
That role, right, Yeah, and have hey a burst.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Here and there, and and maybe we bring back a
little bit of the low post movement where he's not
having to get up and down the court as much.
Maybe right if he takes the Arnie Span your approach,
I run back, or or the way Kareem was, No,
I go back on defense once every three.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Things exactly exactly in.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
Your case, not at all, but in theirs, you start
to be you pick and choose. Ah, they got a break,
they don't need me down.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
Yeah, I run from the three point lines of the
three point line. That's my area. That's the part got.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Oh you're still getting your sprint set. So that's good
for you. I appreciate you for it. At Stick and
Genius one where you find them on Twitter. Find me
over at Swollen Dome. Already in for Jason Smith tonight
as we come to you live from the Tirac dot
Com studios of Fox Sports Radio. Whose players will run
through a wall for them? Maybe it would be Tom Brady,
but that's not the answer here. We'll get to that
(24:22):
in a moment. First, let's kick it over to Manciben
on youos so tell us all about the return of
Major League Baseball.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Oh yes, and.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
It starts with the White Sox and braid you're gonna
go home.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Listen, the Braves are the best human baseball.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
You gotta start with them.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
They ended hot, they are starting out hot in the
second half. There are sixty nine and twenty nine. They
shut out the White Sox nine zero. Matt Olsen with
the Grand Slam in the first inning. You can't make
this stuff up. But let's go to the Dodgers. That's right,
because the Dodgers dominated the Mets also six zero. LA
is now one full game ahead of Arizona for the
top spot in the NL West because the Diamondbacks lost
(24:58):
to the Blue Jay seven to two, And things you
know are still the same. For Vladimiricaurero Junior. Nothing's changed.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
The two to two smoked out the deep live field.
The derby continues.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
Vladimir Guerrero Junior with a no dollar, so everything's just
the same for him. Blue Jays Radio Network. The Birds
edge the Reds win zero, so Milwaukee is now tied
with Cincinnati for the top spot in the NL Central.
Currently going on right now, in Major League Baseball, the
Guardians started with home runs from bo Naylor and Josh
(25:30):
Naylor first brothers to ever do that in Cleveland history.
And then the Rangers have responded with five runs in
the seventh inning. So Texas is now beating Cleveland eight
to four. Top of the eighth inning. Red Sox, I
think five homers so far in this game, maybe even six.
But they're beating the Cubs eight to three, top of
the ninth inning. Cody Bellinger has homer twice for Chicago
so far in this game. Orioles beating the Marlins three
(25:52):
to two, bottom of the eighth inning, and the Rockies
have extended their lead over the Yankees. They gotta get
it together. It is six too bottom of the seventh inning,
and Angels are beating the Astros at home to zero,
top of the fourth inning. Show hey Otani has pitched
three innings and has struck out five.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
He has two hits so far.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
In the game.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
Twins beating the A's two to one, top of the third.
Tigers have scored first against the Mariners to zero, bottom
of the second. In NFL news, the Bengals and running
back Joe Mixon have reached agreement and agreement to rework
the nine point four million dollar non guaranteed base salary
he was scheduled to make. Basically, he is taking a
pay cut to stay with Cincinnati for the twenty twenty
three season, and reports earlier today did say that Giants
(26:32):
running back Saquon Barkley Raiders running back Josh Jacobs are
both preparing to sit out portions of training camp if
contract extensions can't be reached by Monday's deadline for franchise
tagged players to get multi year deals.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Back to you guys, until the money gets real.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
Until the money gets real.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
Yeah, I mean those little fines. I mean you can't
get away with them like they used to, right, to
be able to say, all right, we all were all
good and we move forward. So there's still gonna be
a loss. But once we start talking about a half
a million dollars here and.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
There, then when it hurts.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
Yeah yeah, yeah, once it starts hurt exactly at Monsey
Malanias where you find her on Twitter. Thank you Mons, Yeah,
Mike Carmen and Arnie span you here with you. Arnie's
army is out in full force in the Twitter verse.
We appreciate you coming to the show. I mean, you're
like the pied Piper.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Yeah, obviously, either that or you have a lot of
burner accounts. I you know, my the tweet deck really
doesn't work good anymore, so I.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
Have to kind of go to my well, you know,
you need to pay I.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
Don't pay for that. Sorry, that's not happening.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
No, I'm with you there. But yeah, at Stink and
Genius one where you find him find me over at
Swollen Dome. Bring the love, bring the hate. Just keep
listening and tell your friends to tune in. How entertaining
the back and forth is here on a beautiful Friday.
By the way, if you missed any of the programs
this week, you had Jason and Aaron to start the week,
and then Olden and I did a day and Arnie's
(27:54):
been with me since Wednesday. Any of the podcasts wherever
you get your audio downloaded, give it five stars. You're
not gonna hear any better breakdown of all of these
trade rumors, these different lists that we've had, and certainly
in the Northwestern scandal, Hey, nobody's talking about it better
than I did, So download.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
It all there crying about excuse me, you aren't talking
about it. You were crying about.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Cry about it. I went and I blasted your administration
and in a way that I don't think anybody else
did or could. You can find that all in the
pot in podcast form, because you know it's it's a
new day. You move forward. Reports of here the short
list of our guy, John Palm, Morosi, Joe Girardi, and
some former Wildcat players, Mark Loretta, maybe another major league
(28:43):
longtime veteran hitter. Maybe he finds a way that they
try to bring in one of those old school guys
to stabilize things. But we start looking at timelines and
you wonder where all this converges or was it from
the baseball side just a blip with the new hire
from the ad seems like he vetted that one really well. Anyway,
(29:04):
all the podcasts are there for you to download as
you roll through story. I wanted to get to with you,
Arnie here in Green Bay where Aaron Rodgers is gone.
So everybody thinks that the shop just folded up. AJ
Dillon says, no, no, no, no, no. No. Guys here they're
ready to run through a wall for Jordan love quote.
I think he definitely has all the intangibles. He's earned
(29:25):
the trust to the locker room and guys respect him.
They want to play for him. Guys want to help
him as much as they want to help themselves. Nothing's
perfect in football, and everybody knows that. I think he's
got a lot of support and everyone would run through
a wall.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
So Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon are back. You have a
bevy of young receivers, the offensive line, fairly solid. Defense
underperformed last year. See if they could be better. I mean,
I know everybody's excited about the Detroit Lions. I don't
know how much of that is the play versus Dan Campbell,
because I don't think it was too long ago where
(29:59):
everybody he told me how bad a quarterback you know,
golf was, and all of a sudden, everybody's on board
him being the leader there. Minnesota. We'll get to them
a little bit later when we talk about lists and quarterbacks.
I've always been a little higher on Kirk Cousins overall,
but certainly in pressure situations. We've got some concerns, and
I don't know what the Bears are. I'm a Chicago kid,
(30:22):
and I'm an optimist as much as I can be.
There's a lot of growth that needs to happen in
that squad, they've had a lot of turnover, and I
don't know that Justin Fields makes that leap year one
day to year two where suddenly he's a world beater.
But all that said, the Packers have been the modelist stability,
And yes, you take out Aaron Rodgers, but we've got
(30:43):
a guy who's similar in nature, having been there for
three years. Guy they used a first round pick on,
had opportunities to trade him away to try to please
Aaron Rodgers along the way, didn't do it. And now
you go forward. And so I know this is a
lot of ag Dylan just backing his guy, but I
think this is a team that's being slept on in
(31:04):
terms of an NFC that seems fairly wide open.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
Well, it looks like he's backing his guy, and I
know they say, well, we'll run through a wall for him.
We love Jordan love blah blah blah. Then me really
translated for you the way it's supposed to be, because
a lot of people are going to say that, wow,
that's great, they love this guy. They want to run
through a wall from know, what he's really saying is
we want to win so badly just to show that
we could win without Aaron Rodgers, that we want to
(31:30):
go ahead and stick it to him. We want to
be able to go to the super Bowl without Aaron
Rodgers and said, see, it wasn't us, it was you.
You're good for nothing. Blank and he blank. That's what
they're really saying, Mike. Well, like they don't care about Jordan,
they don't care about Jordan Love No, but.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
You gotta hype the guy that's got to get it.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
I understand that. But they really really want to stick
it to Aaron Rodgers. You understand that.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
Look, how could you not be I don't blame the
last couple of years. I don't blame it was Brett
barb situation fifteen years later, adding all of the you know,
vaccination stuff and secondary non football related issues to no
(32:16):
showing for offseason workouts, threats of retirement and all of
those things. Look, he's got the right to say what
he wants. I may out agree with it, but I
respect him coming forward. And I had this argument with
Smith all the times, like I don't have to agree
with him, but if that's how he feels and he's
willing to put his name on it, I got I
gotta respect that, but you know, and obviously people you know,
(32:38):
you find your holes, you find your your your battles
with and certainly his word choice left him open to
some criticisms and I think fairly so. But he's gone.
You don't have to deal with the side show and
the circus being in town anymore. Jordan Love's just going
to come in and it's always tough to be the
next guy. But he's been in the system, he's been
(33:02):
around it, he's watched the Hoopla the last three years.
All of that's that circus has moved on to New York,
including Hard Knocks, So he's in a pretty good position
to just come in and play football.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
Mike, if you're gonna poke the bear, poke the bear already,
which are stir it up for crying out loud? If
I if I'm going ahead, if I'm running things in
Green Bay? Have you ever seen a coach will take
game film where a team played, their team played absolutely
horrible and just say we're burning the game film. We're
not even gonna look at it. We're gonna move on
and turn it around.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Spectacles.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
I know I'd burn in Aaron Rodgers jersey inside the
locker room and say he's gone, let's put it behind us.
We start a new era here with the Green Bay Packers,
and his name is Jordan Love. That would stir it
would What do you think Sports talk would say that
if they did something like.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
That, hybody either acted like children, which would be my
TAKEO they exercised a No, it's a great spectacle.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
There's no question about.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
Start dancing around yelling ding dong, the witch is dead,
just like they're out of the Wizard of Oz. Hey,
they're dressed up like the munchkins.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
You know.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
Sometimes you gotta.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
Walk around on eggshells around that guy for crying out loud.
I wouldn't be surprised if they had Aaron Rodgers pinata
in that locker room.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Right now you're talking. There you go. I might get
that from my birthday because I do have a bottle
of champagne that's ready to be cracked because he did
leave the division.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
Someone bought me one a while ago. It's been sitting
in my fridge. I've never had an opportunity, uh, since
he left for the Jets to break that open. Maybe
I'll do that opening night. Maybe maybe that'll be definitely
part of the pop and pomp and circumstance and the
pageantry at Fox Sports Radio. Uh. For those that don't
get the joke, I'll let you behind the curtain. This
is Alreadie and I just having fun and then laughing
(34:55):
as we finish off yelling at each other. So for
folks that think the animus is real, I don't think
he's coming to key my car. Like Smith would argue,
Oh I was gonna do. Well, maybe you do. I don't.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Maybe this is why I'm not allowed in la Oo.
Speaker 3 (35:08):
Yeah I didn't learn him restraining order out on you yet.
Live from the tire rack dot Com Studios, Jason Smith
Show with Me, Mike Carmon, Arnie Span You're in for
Jason Smith tonight. Hey, coming up next, Arnie, we're gonna
take the physical challenge, one of which was up the
road here in Chatsworth, Hey, keep your minds out of
the gutter people, And the other is can you run
(35:31):
it through at one hundred and thirty one degrees? Lots
of people are trying it. How smart are they? Not much?
But we'll talk about it here in a minute. Here
on Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Sports Radio, be sure to catch live editions of the
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Hey, welcome back in It's Fox Sports Radios Jason Smith
Show with Me Mike Harmon. No, Jason Smith Tonight with
me here in the Tirack dot Com Udios mobile Fox
Sports Radio Studios. For him, it's Arnie Spanner. Yes, the
Steak and Genius. Hear him Sunday nights alongside Chris Plank.
I've been honored to have a radio legend with me
(36:12):
these last couple of nights.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
Yes, you have.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
It is a beautiful thing.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
I'm a pretty big deal. In case you didn't know that,
well I don't.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
I think you just take the compliment move on. But
you know my kids tell me though, you know sometimes
you have to take a compliment, just run with it,
to shut up and stop being self deprecated. I like
the way I lean.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
Yeah, No, I'm great.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
Everybody loves me, there's no question. But look, Arnie is
a guy. Those that listen on Sunday nights and answered
the call when he put it out on Twitter that
he was in each of these last couple of days.
I appreciate you giving us a listen, giving us a
run here in this slot on Fox Sports Radio Evangelized.
Tell your friends, we try to have a little bit
(36:55):
of fun with you, a lot of fun over the time,
and we can jab each other along the way. Arnie
and I have known each other quite a while here
in these Fox Sports Radio environment. So here we are
ready for a big Friday night. Major League Baseball's back on.
We got a tie game down in Anaheim. It's two
to two and Otani's pitch count's starting to rise, so
(37:17):
we'll see how deep he gets into this game. But
the tease, Arnie was, take the physical challenge. Do you
want to go behind door number one or darn number two?
Speaker 4 (37:28):
You always go with door number two, and let's make
a deal. He always took the middle one.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
But the door number two, well, I mean it might
be a pig, Yes, it could be a goat. I
mean yeah, all of those things right, all right, Well,
big Mama has been captured. Big Mama. What yeah? In
Chatsworth and if you know southern California insert jokes here.
Some of the finest video that you watch, maybe by yourself,
(37:57):
maybe to set a mood, all of those things. It's
early here on the West Coast, so only so much
I could say, but is produced and filmed in Chatsworth. Well, No,
this is about a fifteen foot python named Big Mama
that head escaped from its cage. Evidently a little bit
of a sanctuary. They have it a little enclosure out
in the backyard, and someone forgot to class the gate
(38:20):
so it got out. Shocking, but they went and they
put flyers around the neighborhood. You want to talk about
alarming an entire neighborhood and surrounding area people with dogs.
They're cats that maybe they let out at night. Right,
we have a lot of folks that do that. That's
been I mean they're already competing with a lot of
other wildlife. Now you're gonna add a fifteen foot python
(38:42):
too the mix.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
It's the size of a giraffe.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
I mean, I know COVID, you know Thunderlips has the
twenty four inch pythons brother, But I mean we're talking fifteen.
Speaker 4 (38:51):
Feet, Mike. If I lived on that block, I'm checking
into a hotel until they find it. Even if I
look like within a mile radius, I fear from that
and crocodiles, snakes and crocodiles. I'll run away like a
four year old schoolgirl. I just terrified of that stuff.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Yeah. The problem with it is, right, is you've got
this giant black and yellow snake and it gets out, right,
They've got it in a garage during the day and
then they let it into it sanctuary. Well it gets out.
Well you think about young I mean children, Right, we've
heard those stories. We certainly see some of the terrifying
stuff that crosses the news wires. But it has been
(39:33):
returned safe.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
Goodness.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
There you go, see what there has a pet like that?
Speaker 4 (39:37):
Though? Who gets that?
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Well? But I mean a lot of people have snakes,
but then you forget about that. But I mean they're
all over the place. I mean, Florida's inundated with all
of these where you have pets, and then you realize, hey,
they're not stopping at two feet.
Speaker 4 (39:49):
This is no snake zone. I'm saying, no, no, you
can't have that.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
Not your world. Yeah, I'm about this. You got a
bunch of folks going to Furnace Creek. Yeah, that's part
of Death Alley National Park. It's going to reach one
hundred and thirty one degrees and a lot of people
were going there as a pilgrimage to show that they
could take on the elements.
Speaker 4 (40:10):
No, no, I've been in like one sixteen, one seventeen
and I wanted to cry, No, what are you doing? Man?
I'd give you a heat stroke. Why would you want
to be out there in that type of weather man?
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Look, unless you're trying to get into the Guinness Book
of World Records. I was there when it was the hottest,
me and all my closest friends that decided to try
to see what our bodies could take. Come on, man,
just go on fear factor and be done with it.
You deal with the snakes and the heat. He's already
I might coming up next. Get him in Top five
storylines that have nothing to do with the Jets in
(40:42):
the NFL
