(00:45):
The way tire buying should be. It's a big night
in Major League Baseball. We have game winning catches, saving games,
Grand slams winning games. Then there's every time I look up.
In this Reds Dodgers game, a Reds player is trotting
home from third, either after a hit by pitch or
a bases loaded walk, and look, I've known another run,
another run, another run.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
In the first game of the Ahmed Rosario era, the
Reds lead the Dodgers six two.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
I like that you've renamed it in Eras since the
Eras Tour comes into southern California. Uh next week, h
Taylor Swift and all these swifties. Uh, it's only appropriate
we speak of everything in Eras. Can I tell you?
Speaker 1 (01:25):
The only people I know that have tickets to Taylor
Swift concert are you and Richie from The Bear. Those
are the only people I know going to this concert.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yeah, Richie, how great was that thread? Which is which
is kind of so good? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:39):
No, I mean it's look, it's it's it's kind of
ironic because I picture your family like the Thanksgiving, like
the Christmas episode of season two of The Bear, like
some of that. That's what it's like.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Table.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah, you throw that fork at me again.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
You throw that fork at me again. No, that's it.
I got a couple of guys that look like Oliver
Platt in my family.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Does he still have the fork in his hand?
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Okay, gonna keep going now. I've been just picturing all
your brothers are like Richie, Like they're all like, yeah,
both of them, both of them are Richie.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Depend depending on circumstance. Yeah, rich Richie is Uh, Richie's universal.
Richie is uh like I might write a book about
quintessential quintessential Chicago characters. Might he might be it.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
I tell you the aliens that are because you know,
we know they're aliens. Here, the aliens that are looking
at our planet are going, Okay, let's let's size up
all the cities so we can see where we want
to attack. And they watch the c TV and go,
oh man, Chicago, man, that guy. We got to stay
away from Chicago. We're not gonna win. We gotta go
someplace else man, we got it. Someplace else where. We're
not going to Chicago. Look at Richie. Man, they're all
(02:44):
like him there forget it now.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
That sounds about right. Yeah, I mean the rest of
the family is no picnic. I mean, I mean, if
you just keep going to Richie because you.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Know him best, it's just like the Christmas episode, Yeah,
which I gotta be honest for you. I can be
honest for you right now because this is this was
something because now because I just finished season two of
The Beard you get there, and I told you, yeah, well,
because we had a lot of shows again, we finished
watching Secret Invasion, which.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I was yeah, I didn't give that. I quit.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Yeah, I don't quit on a lot of shows that
I invest even in that hour anymore. Like I'm gonna
gut through it that one. I said, Now, I love
the principal actors in this I got. I got no
use from now.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
You didn't need to watch it, the edit did, but
but we did because it was marvel like a and
I you know me that there are certain single episodes
in television history that I that I think are just
metal stand better than anything I've ever seen. The True
Cathedral's episode of West Wing, the series finale of The Wire, Uh,
the the episode and Breaking Bad that with Hank and
(03:42):
the b well the Asamandias, the Hank and the two
brothers that are attacking him. There's certain that season finale
of Season one of True Detective. Certain times like I'm
watching absolute greatness. And that's how I felt watching the
Christmas episode of The Bear. I'm like, I want to
watch this every single day. It was unbelievable. It was
all the cameos you knew coming in it, but it
was amazing, and you know, most of it was improvd
(04:05):
and and it was so hard to shoot. And Jamie
Lee Curtis is going to win the Emmy easily for
Guest Actress in a Drama. I mean, I can't get
over how good that episode was. And it really tied
the entire season together because I wasn't a big fan
of the season up until that episode. And I'm like,
all right, now we're cooking. Now we're cooking. That was amazing.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
I was in and everything having to do with Richie,
the arc, I mean, the growth, the the change of
direction that they had, I mean, just just great stuff.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Did you just throw a fork at me again? Did
you throw that fork again?
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Throw good for him? I mean right before the strike
at all. He just changed agencies. He was able to
parlay that and some some more opportunity for Ritchie going forward.
But yes, uh, we we do have next Friday Night.
The girls will be in attendance. I am still working
to procure a third.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
I can take us to Taylor Swift concert if you
want to go. You know you and me? Oh okay.
The Jason Smith Show Mike Carmon live from the tire
rack dot Com studios. And today was, like I said,
today is a big day in Major League Baseball. We
have the big endings that we talked about and now
we have the drama surrounding a couple of players who
may or may not be traded around the trade deadline.
(05:14):
The Mets win tonight, Max Schurzer pitches, well, the Mets
win their second game in a row. Hey, now they're
getting hot. Once the season's done. They trade closer David
robertson last night. He was thirty eight years old and
he's having a really good year. And you would think
the Mets traded away Pete Alonzo and got Noah Sindergard
back the way everybody was reacting on social media.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
What kind of trades.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
He's thirty eight, he's in a walk here, they got
two prospects. They're stocking the farm sets and it's fine.
But Max Scherzer not happy with the trade. And after
the game was over tonight the Mets win, you think
things are okay, He says, no, no, Now, I gotta
have a sit down with the Bobs over the direction
of the team. All right, I thought we had. We'll
get a cued up in a second to hear Max Schurzer,
who is not happy with what the he talked about
(06:00):
with the direction of the team. Following the Mets, you know,
the first waving of the white flag. With trading David Robertson. Uh,
Schurezer says, quote, you have to talk to the brass.
You got to understand what they see, what they're going
to do. Okay, that's fine. I told you I wasn't
gonna comment on this until Steve was gonna sell. We
traded Robertson. Now we need to have a conversation. Whoa, whoa,
(06:23):
Well we got it. Let's hear it.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
Love, I gonna have a conversation with the front office
and you're trading our closer wife. Yeah, yeah, we're gonna
I'm sure a bunch of people are gonna have to
have conversations for the front office, Like.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
What do you mean, Like what what conversations need to
be have? You stink we're not being good and so
we're trading the guys that are thirty five years old
to thirty eight years old. What do you think is
gonna have But this is how it works in baseball. Hey,
Max Schurzer, if you want out and you want to
give back some money and you're okay with that, you
want to knock off the last year a year deal
and you want to Hey, let's have that conversation man,
(06:58):
because you know what, thirty five million dollars a year,
I don't need Max Sures or every other start to say, oh,
something's wrong with my slider. I'll fix it over the
course the next three or four starts and it's gonna
be fine.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
No, if you want to go, you gotta go. What
do you think You've been around baseball a long time?
Speaker 3 (07:12):
I mean, is he.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Trying to say that I got assurances or I'm gonna
keep the team being This is how it goes. You're underachieving,
And I'm sorry if the Mets are unhappy, I'm unhappy.
Everybody's unhappy. There were some reports today that Steve Cohen's
press conference last month upset a lot of players, that
he said, hey, you know, we have some time to go,
but we got to improve where there's gonna be some changes.
This is just how it goes. Steve Cohen spent a
(07:34):
lot of money to make this team good, and yours
is a performance business. And I'm sorry if you're upset
that all this is good. This is this is major
League baseball. This is how it goes. If you don't
play well, you know, players get traded at the deadlines,
you can get prospects, especially guys that are thirty eight
in a walk. Here right, you're thirty nine with one
and a half years left on a deal that right
now nobody wants to touch. And you're upset. You're upset
(07:57):
the way you've pitched most of the season. You're upset
about this. It's the season's been over forever, forever, and
now it's like, oh, now that we're actually making a trade.
Now I have to have a conversation. I'd love to
be a flying to wall of that conversation. Hey, dude,
do you look at the standings right? You see where
we are. So many teams we have to jump. We're
close to the last place than we are to third place.
(08:18):
What do you think is going to happen? This is
the reality of major League baseball. Man, you've been around
a long time.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Yeah, I think you know. You just have that situation
whereby a player gets a little chest look that tells
me that you've never had a hard conversation in your life.
I'm not buying that, right, just the way that goes. Well,
you know, we're upset by the way he spoke about
our squad and where we're at. It was like, what's
(08:46):
wrong with y'all. It's like you're underperforming. He spent gobs
of money, did everything to build this up. Yeah, so
he went public. He's that kind of owner who's got
the conduit. He's skipp in the middle. There's nobody doing
a coach speak or you know, ata boys and good,
good job, good effort kind of thing going on there.
(09:08):
It's legit. Hey, I'm gonna go and and talk directly
to the people instead of just euphemisms and everything else.
It's like, that's that's not a bad it's a refreshing
different way of than maybe you're used to business being done,
but to feel but hurt about it, saying, hey, he
called us out for bad performance in the press, Like
(09:29):
everybody can look at the standings. We've all watched the
game every day. We say a pray at Novena for
Frank the tank that it doesn't take him out. I
mean all of that to say, yeah, I get it.
Maybe you wanted one more you know, one more conversation
(09:50):
before it went down, or whatever the case may be,
but that's not that's not the way it went. Sorry,
he'll send you flowers or maybe you next check will clear,
shut up, I really.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
I mean it's like it's his first day in Major
League Baseball. I don't know. I'm sure he was given
some kind of assurances by Steve Cohen. Look, we're gonna
try to win, we're gonna keep the team together. We're
making moves here. But this is how it works, man,
I mean, what do you think of the deadline? No,
we're gonna stand pat I'm spending a lot of money.
It's going forward like this.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
I mean, dude, yeah, you said terrible, but yeah that's okay.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Yeah, you signed a three year deal, and I'm pretty
sure Max shrs are new when he signed that deal
with the Mets. My first year is gonna be really good.
My second year might not be as good, but I'll
still be good enough in the third year, who knows.
But I'll take all that guaranteed money. And now he's upset.
I mean, come on, man, I look, look watching the
team play, nothing's going to happen. They've been They've been
(10:43):
terrible for so long. This is just how it goes.
If they were closer to the playoffs, they were a
five hundred team. If they could win some series, yeah,
all right, And now I feel like, Oh, this is
what it took to get the Mets attention. Like, now
they've won a couple of games in a row. Alonzo's
got a couple of home runs, and now hey, now
we have to go out and make sure we try
to win games over the next two months. Oh, this
(11:03):
is what it took to get your attention. Trading David Robertson.
Forget about everything else went before it, But now you
traded our closer. What do you think was gonna happen
if they kept David Robertson? How are things going to
be markedly different after four months? Suddenly things are gonna
get great. No, they weren't. I look at this and
I go, what the hell?
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Man? I really?
Speaker 1 (11:21):
I mean, I feel like, you know, like like Ron says,
in uh in Harry Potter, I see this and she
thinks I'm Frankie first year. Like suddenly, back, sure's his
Frankie first year in Major league baseball.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Yeah, I may. And maybe that was what they needed,
you know, that it wasn't idle chatter, and they made
made a deal and now it upsets the locker room
and and whatever inspires them. Again, I always have trouble
with that's what you need to have happen. You need
to have your owner or manager or someone embarrass you
in in a press setting. That's that's what's gonna suddenly
(11:57):
inspire you to play well. They don't believe in us,
Like it's the end of July and you've sucked. I mean, right,
I mean, what's the line I'm trying to think of
what show or a movie that's Trump's like, no, no, no,
these aren't standardized tests. These are his grades. That's what
we're at here, right, It's the same. It's the same concept.
(12:18):
Is it was all out there. Your status, your win loss,
is your failure to get past a fifth or a
sixth inning, whatever the case may be. You add it
all up, and this is where you're at in your season.
So complaining that your owner doesn't believe in you, or
he upset you because maybe he cursed you out, or
maybe he called out one or two people by name
(12:40):
for the fact that they've got giant contracts and we're underperforming.
You know what, that's the business. That's life, man. This
is a Kindergarten finger painting Twitter.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
It's like Kindergarten. I got the blue crayon and the
orange crayon and things are great. Here's your fun dip.
Go sit in the corner, ex Twitter or a Exaid.
How about a Fresco? Mike had Swollen Dome The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon And speaking
of the big night in Major League Baseball, it has been.
(13:10):
Make it a walk off home run for the oriole
Santander with a drive to right center field and a
huge bat flip. The Orioles beat the Yankees won nothing.
Before he even got to home plate. He was hit
with water bottles and two ice buckets. The O's And
I remember I told you the O's are gonna win
the AL East. I told you a while ago They're
(13:31):
within the Al East. A big walk off win over
the Yankees tonight. This is probably, I would say, Mike overall,
like the best night of baseball in quite a while.
With all the different big outcomes in the drama with
Otani and Sures and all. This is a big, big
night Dodger bullpen. Yeah, well, it's still going on the games.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Kelly hasn't gotten there yet.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
No, hey, look it's really on. At Rosario's fault, the
first game of the Rosario not going well, not going well.
So we have more baseball on the way. Jason Smith
Mike Harmon live from the tire rag dot com studios.
We got more on show Heyo Tani coming up, and

Com sponsored by tire rack dot Com The way tire
buying should be. Well, we had the Orioles winning a
walk off home run. I think Aaron Boone actually got
thrown out during the home run and Freddie Freeman with
the bases loaded, singles to right center a big time
(16:28):
six to two Reds lead, now cut to six '
four Dodgers have two on nobody out batting in the
bottom of the seventh inning. Could Freddie Freeman actually take
the MVP away from Ronald Dacunya joining us now on
the hotline. No body better than a man who is
was on Safari And I mean that like literally, like
he was on Safari last week and is on his honeymoon.
(16:52):
He's gonna join us now. Todd Furman from our Big
Insider in Vegas, oddsmaker former orods maker at Caesars Bet
the Board podcast, he joins us every Friday to talk
about all the latest goings on from Vegas. Todd, How's
your honeymoon man, congratulations.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
Thank you, my friend. I had a great time traveling
on safari for about two weeks through East Africa. I
can't encourage people strongly enough to go outside their comfort
zone if they have the means to be able to
take that trip unlike anywhere I've ever been. And as
much as I missed you guys on the road, I
still wish I was there somewhere in the SERENGETI is there.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Anything you were able to bet on during during your honeymoon?
Like could you bet on like which elephant was going
to get someplace faster or something? I could? Did you
bet that?
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Or no?
Speaker 5 (17:35):
I mean, I'm sure I could have found action. When
we drove through some of the cities in Tanzania. I
did see, you know, various sportsbooks that were advertised, but
didn't think that I needed to get my action fixed
during the dog days of summer, so I aired on
the side of caution, took a reprieve for the better
part of two weeks. Did have to get a buddy
or two to place a bet on the British Open.
Wish I hadn't while I was still overseas. Little to
(17:56):
say I did not have Brian Harmon at one hundred
and fifty to one to win the trophy in Royal Liverpool.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Start betting on whether the zebra is gonna what's the
over under before he gets caught?
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Wow, look at you? What I think the zebra makes it?
Eight seconds? Oh no, not gonna make it. Not gonna
make it. Wait, do you want to bet Wildebeest or not? No,
I'm going I'm not betting on the Wildebeest's not gonna happen.
All right, So, so Todda anything change the world changed
for you when you came back? Now everything else or everything? Okay,
(18:29):
I think we lost him again. I think he was
maybe went. Maybe we're about to try to see if
he actually maybe did lose money on a bet on
the Safari. You could have could have been on, could
have been on Craven the Hunter, Never.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Know, could have been never getting released.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
No, come on, that movie's gonna be pretty good. You
good bye, Aaron Taylor Johnson. They're putting him back in
a Marvel movie after they feel so bad for him that, hey,
we're bringing every character back except your character. Man, your
character's dead, so we'll give you somebody.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
I guess the other guy showed up on the TV show.
So you got that going for you, ye, yeah, yeah,
But you know you look at the release dates because
of the strikes, like, yeah, this was gonna come out
around Christmas time, Nah, next August. Gotta be able to
do your promotional junkets, and you know you get to
play with the CGI a little bit more.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
Yeah, we're gonna move things around a little bit. So, hey,
you thought you're gonna go see it tomorrow now instead
you said you're gonna see it Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Around the calendar here we.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Have Todd Ferman back tow Did you not pay your
phone bill while you were gone? Is that what happened
or what's it doing?
Speaker 5 (19:25):
Apparently not, because you're supposed to get a better reception
in twenty twenty three when you're working with a landline
instead of a cell phone. So if the signal drops
dead again, it means that I'm booking my first flight
to JFK to help the Jets plan their Super Bowl parade,
because clearly they're building a super team with a running
back that they haven't even signed yet to a contract.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Well clearly, because when you left for Safari, Slash your honeymoon,
the Jets were over under for wins was probably nine
and a half. Now they're likely gonna get Dalvin Cook,
Who's gonna visit this weekend. What's the over under now
bout fourteen and a half wins for the Jets? Fifteen
and a half?
Speaker 3 (19:54):
What's that?
Speaker 5 (19:55):
I mean, fourteen and a half feels a little bit light.
I feel like they should be an even money favorit
right now to run the table, go seventeen to zero
and obviously go on to win the Lombardi Trophy. You
have Aaron Rodgers taking a pay cut. The biggest question
that I have for you Smith in New York, though,
can Steve Cohne trade any of those assets from the
Mets and allow them to play for the Jets. I mean,
maybe Max schuerz Or and Justin Verlander want to play
(20:16):
in the postseason. They may have a better shot if
they're playing in met Life compared to City Field.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Let me write that down. I'm gonna call Steve Cohen
after the show. I'll ask him that. Hang on me
write that down.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
I figured you have a direct line to his office,
although I'm not sure he may pick up your calls.
At twelve thirty at night.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Has anything that's transpired in this trade market really moved
much of anything?
Speaker 5 (20:34):
No, no, not as much as Angels fans will lead
you to believe that Lucas Gilito wasn't exactly the missing
link to give this team a much more of a
puncher's chance in the race for you know, an ale
wild card. You look at the dynamics right now. Obviously,
the Dodgers getting Lancelin helps Joe Kelly to solidify the
back end of the bullpen. The rich get richer, and
you know, while you try and make a case for
(20:55):
teams not name the Dodgers and the Braves in the
National League, obviously the road will run through those two
particular cities. And when we look at the American League,
probably more wide open that it's been in years. Obviously,
the American League East is a muddled mess. The American
League Central it is a glorified dumpster fire. And when
you look out west, you know, I'm not sure the
Rangers have enough pitching to get them where they need
(21:15):
to go. So we probably shouldn't be sleeping on the
Houston Astros.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
All right, So let me ask you this we were
talking about before you come on we talked about Otani,
who now is once he got to be more than
even are even taking bets on Otani to be the
AL MVP anymore? Or is that out the window now?
Speaker 5 (21:30):
I mean, his number had got up to a one
to fourteen favorite, And the only reason that that price
actually came down a little bit a couple of weeks
ago was amid speculation that he could be moved out
of the American League. But that was one hundred million
dollar question. Even if Otani got traded to the National League,
played you know, roughly one hundred and five, one hundred
and ten games a member of the Angels, he probably
has done more warrant being the American League MVP than
(21:51):
anybody else in the entire side of the draw there. So,
once the Angels basically made a commitment they said they
weren't in a dol Otani, I think it's fayt to
com plea that he takes home that hardware, especially with
the only player that was really breathing down his neck
in terms of odds being Corey Seeger now missing time
for the second time this year with a spring thumb.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
All right, So in the Nationally we mentioned this coming
Freddy Freeman a basis loaded single bringing in a couple
of runs. The NLMVP has been Ronald LACUNYAZ for a
while and every day, ron Ah, could Freddy Freeman take
this away from him? Suddenly you're looking at how well
he's playing and his numbers match up pretty good.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
Yeah, I don't think it's really on lockdown like it
was a couple of weeks ago. And we've seen this
before with some of the awards in Major League Baseball.
It's obviously what have you done for me lately? Now,
Roald Acunya Junior is still a heavy favorite. You can
get the entire field against him at a price around
three to one or three and a half to one.
But if you're willing to shop around, Freddy Freeman's numbers
a little bit longer there and that five or six
(22:50):
range his teammate and Mookie Betts the only other player
that I've seen on board the little price less than
twenty five to one. And if you believe that you
know someone else will come from off the pace, or
that the Arizona Diamondbacks will suddenly write the ship, maybe
Corbyn Carroll's a guy that you want to put a
few bucks on, you know, at a price of forty
or fifty to one. But I do believe it's a
Cooney junior or one of that. Does Dodger teammates and
(23:11):
Mookie bets are Freddie Fieman if they finish like a
house on fire.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
Now, Colorado soon to exit the Pac twelve and try
to take over the Big twelve. Good thoughts to Dion
Sanders on his health and all over under three and
a half wins.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
Yeah, I mean, look, this is a roster that Dion
had to go through a complete overhaul, and I think
the weight of expectations are going to get everyone's undivided attention.
On a weekend, week out basis, you go through Colorado's
schedule and you try to identify some of the opportunities
that they're going to have for victories. Unless they pull
off a big upset here or there, it's going to
be a little bit of an uphill battle. This was
(23:45):
a win total guys that opened its high as five
and a half off shore in early December. Once there
was speculation about Dion coming there, and I may have
the timeline confused, so I apologize for that. But you
go through and try and figure out where those wins
are going to come Week two against Nebraska, Week three
against Colorado State, And when you look at the back
half of the schedule, they'd probably have to pull off
(24:06):
an upset or go on the road and knock off
a team like Arizona State or Washington State if they
were going to get to the four win threshold.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Todd if I had twenty twenty five for the over
under of when the PAC twelve ceases to exist, where
should I put my money? Should before or after?
Speaker 5 (24:22):
I mean, I think it's a question of if the
PAC twelve has enough to go out and raid some
of the other Group of five conferences. I mean, the
most recent update. I'm not sure SMU and San Diego
State are the two crown jewels that you bring in
to solidify yourself as a perennial Power five conference. But
I think twenty twenty five is a fair number, and
I would probably lean towards the under when you look
(24:43):
at some of the teams that are out there. I mean,
we know Arizona has had extended flirtations with the Big twelve.
I think if they go, Arizona State follows suit. Imagine
Utah would be next. The Big ten just biding their
time to pick off cal Stanford, Oregon and Washington and
suddenly year left with Oregon State and Washington State. But
I know cor Vallas and Pullman Washington, two massive media
(25:03):
markets that the PAC twelve really sees as cornerstones to
keep that league alive.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
Super Bowl odds, fun and excitement todd as we get
ready and training camp has begun in earnest we hold
our breaths, that guys get their healthy. Smith just yelling Jets, Jets,
Jets at every turn. Cowboys are the seventh favorite at
sixteen to one? Is that just because they're the Cowboys?
Speaker 5 (25:25):
It's partly because the Cowboys play in the NFC. And
when you look at the landscape in the NFC, what
are there at least three good teams on paper? Maybe
if you believe it's the Cowboys, Eagles and forty nine
ers that are going to buy for conference supremacy. I
know the Lions have gotten a lot of buzz the
first time in a long time that they've been favored
to win a division that they've never won. You have
to go all the way back to when it was
(25:45):
the NFC Central for the Lions to finish on top,
maybe the Minnesota Vikings or a team that people are
selling short given the improvable season they had last year
in terms of their overall scoring margins. But that's the
main reason that Dallas sees their numbers as short, as
they are still an extremely talented roster. Questions about Dak Prescott,
But if they were in the AFC, they would have
a significantly larger hurdle that they would have to navigate
(26:06):
through than what they'll need to go through in the NFC,
which appears to be a little bit top heavy and
a whole lot of junk in that middle to bottom tier.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
All Right, Lastly, Todd, I want you to be straight
with me. I want you to give me the best
advice you possibly can.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
This is an awfully dacent best advice you possibly can.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Be quaking in my boots.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Welcome home, buddy.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
Where should the money? Where should the money go for
the Hall of Fame Game? I don't think Aaron Rodgers
is going to play, but the Jets are playing. Where
should the money go for the Hall of Fame game?
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Look?
Speaker 5 (26:36):
I mean last year in the Hall of Fame Game,
we had the NFL's leading rusher get significant carries in
Josh Jacobs, So maybe that's what the Jets need to do.
Even if Breece Hall isn't a hundred percent, get him
out there playing on the crappy turf and can let's
see how that surgically repaired nee will look. He's going
to be a linchpin for what this team wants to accomplish.
But with the hometown crowd and everything else working in
Cleveland's favor, I would still lean under the total at
(26:59):
thirty three and a half. We know this is a
game that often will put fans to sleep, both watching
on TV and that are in attendance. I think points
at a premium under thirty three and a half.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
The Early Leans Vegas insider Todd Firman. He's on Twitter
at Todd Furman. Check out the bet the Board podcast.
See him on CBS Sports as well. Todd is always
buddy appreciated. Welcome back, my friend. Congratulations.
Speaker 5 (27:21):
Hey, always a pleasure, gentlemen, trying to buckle in for
the grind that is the NFL in college football season
until they hand out the Lombardi Trophy. Right here in
my back.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Und It's just a piece of metal, Just a piece
of metal, it's all Rob Manford. I'll tell you a
piece of metal, Piece of metal.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Welcome back, brother, Thanks.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
A bunch Todd, great stuff from Todd Furman. Right there,
He's just like the home field for the Browns. It's
gonna be a Zach Wilson heavy game.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Man.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
You're gonna get Zach Wilson for like three and a
half quarters in this game.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
Well, I mean Aaron Rodgers might be calling the plays
for he let me.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Yeah, I don't think the coaching staff is gonna travel.
It's gonna be Rogers calling the place. And he doesn't travel.
He calls him back from met Life Stadium. Hey, what
do you doing a zoom call?
Speaker 3 (27:58):
What's the legality of putting on on the motion capture
things so Wilson's form can emulate that of Rogers. Oh,
he kind of controls him. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
See now you're thinking that that that would make the
Hall of Fame game a little bit better.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
I got it. We're on the side kind of running
back and forth. It's like, what's he doing? It's like, wait,
he's look at Wilson. He's mirroring everything. He looks just
like Aaron Rodgers. No, he's sitting in the pocket on
NSI just like Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Then you're gonna get everybody panicked that Wait a minute,
the Jets really didn't get Aaron Rodgers. It's just Zach
Wilson in a motion capture of Aaron Rodgers. And he's
still gonna be the quarterback weeks A hologram Rogers is
still in Green Bay. Ah, we're gonna find this out
the night before the opening night of the season. Rogers
still in his Packers uniform. He just peels off the
Jets colors to see that. You see the yellow instead
(28:47):
of the white. Ah, look at this up here. I'm
actually still with the Packers, and you still have Zach Wilson.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
I really was going to the idea that he'd be
sitting at home with the ayahuasca and just you know,
in his in his house. He's not a member of
the Packers. He's still you know, a guy on the Jets.
But uh, he's not actually playing, not putting himself through
the physical faces.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
What do you got, Frozberg? So do we started GoFundMe
for Todd's phone bill? Oh yeah, I forget it now.
I would call him from a landline. Now in twenty
twenty three forget it put all the money on the Browns, although.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
I gotta say yes, yesterday I was going back and
forth with folks on Twitter, going if I could go
back to a landline and throw my cell phone in
the ocean, I would.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Twitter and out about a fresca. Mike get Swallen, I'm sorry,
x At, how about a fresca? X At swollen dump
And you know, we had a conversation about NL MVP
and that Freddie Freeman catching up to Ronald Acunya in
the last ten minutes. Maybe the MVP is Ahmed Rosario.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the tire Rag dot com studios.
And oh, by the way, don't you just know the
way the night has gone in Major League Baseball? With
game winning catches, grand slams, walk off home runs. You
know the Dodgers are going to beat the Reds with
a walk up the ninth, right, I mean you know
(31:01):
that question. Well, it does matter. I just don't know
how it's gonna happen, but that's how it's gonna go.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
It's Rotford exactly.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
So yeah, right now, last game of the night. The
Reds lead the Dodgers six ' five and the eighth
Dodgers have the time run on second and Mookie Betts
at Batuh. We will have more on this game coming up,
but earlier tonight we watched sho heeo Tani have another
incredible performance against the Blue Jays two home runs yesterday.
(31:29):
This was a couple hours after he threw a complete game,
one hit shutout in what we told you people were
going to talk about as being one of the best
days in the history of Major League Baseball, a take
that I'm sure you heard other places earlier. Today. It's okay,
information is free, It's all right. But tonight, with two
home runs in a row, he's gonna hit a third one?
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Was he It's supposed to be all weekend here at
Rogers Center.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
He Baalley sports on the call. The only run of
the night for the Angels. They wind up losing. To
cool themselves off a little bit, Otani had to come
(32:14):
out of the game with leg cramps. He couldn't hit
in the ninth inning, and instead that it's sent up
a pinch hitter with the bases loaded in one out,
so instead of Otani, it's just like anybody I know,
we want Otani, doesn't matter, it doesn't matter. So Otani
couldn't bat, the Angels can't push a run across, they
wind up losing four to one. Now, of all the
different conversations that's been out there about Shoeotani, this is
(32:36):
something that for everybody listens to us and listens to
sports talk radio, watches you know, sports television and watches
the hot sports opinion shows, the hot take shows. Is
Otani is the one superstar, the only guy who is
hot take proof. Every other star in every other sport
(32:56):
gets ripped apart by critics because what they're doing is
not good enough or they're overrated. Lebron James, No, for
a lot of people, he's not done enough. He loses
too many finals, he doesn't raise a level of play.
Tom Brady was the luckiest guy of all time. He
happen to be on Great too. Every single other superstar,
there's a way, hey, hot takes can say this guy
(33:18):
should have done more, this guy's overrated. There is not one,
not one way you can hot take show Hey Otani
and say the guy's overrated.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
You just can't.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
You can't do it. Oh he doesn't pitch on, No way, No,
he does pitch ol What do you have to say, Oh,
he's only got thirty nine, Oh but he doesn't have
forty five?
Speaker 3 (33:36):
You can't.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
He is hot take proof, and that is liked you
talk about. You know, calling Otana unicorn, that there's for
someone to be hot take proof is impossible. But Otani's
figured out a way to make that happen.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Yeah, I think there's just been no scandal, right. Obviously,
he's a guy that, like his teammate Mike Trout, we
know some of but mostly it's his baseball history and
the rise up. And the only thing you said you
could say was, well, he chose to play for the
Angels when he had his choice of wherever to go.
(34:09):
I mean, I guess that's as critical as you could be.
Why there no, I mean, and it's worked out brilliantly
from a marketing and sales and love LoveFest with fans
coming in, being so close to Disney and all that
stuff in International, just hub of folks coming through and
wanting to see part of that experience. I mean, he's
(34:32):
go to must see every time he plays, except when
he was in Detroit because nobody came. But that's more
a Detroit problem than him. But it's you're right. I mean,
he's unassailable, right. You really can't go and and point
out any issues. Well, he had a couple of bad
starts because of blisters.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
Look at those blisters. Nobody else gets blisters. Now you
can't even do that, you get.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
I mean, he's still pitched how many guys had blisters
and then disappeared for a month, And it's.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Guys that have blisters. It pitched better than that. I mean,
it doesn't work nothing more.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
This guy was still hitting every day and launching home
runs right going into the last couple of days of July.
I think only Griffy and Bonds entered August first with
forty plus home runs. So I mean, he's he's in
rarefied air with that. So I mean, you know, we're
we're talking some crazy metrics, and I mean there's there's
(35:23):
nothing to say what hot take. Xenophobes want to say, Hey,
why is he still need an interpreter when when they've
been you know, reporters or whatever for fifty years and
haven't learned three words of Spanish beyond grassias.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Uh, you can't even hot take that.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
It might be really you know what I mean, I
want to be that's about as hot as anybody.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
Yet I want to talk about his postgame and if
you can't even hot take that, and you can't, it's about.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
That's the only attempt anybody's tried.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
It's proof he's hot. Take proof he is hot Taper.
You can't have a hot take about him. It's it's impossible,
It's absolutely impossible. Just think about that. Yeah, I gotta
taking proof, hot take proof. Think of all the other
biggest stars in the NFL, the Emmy Jannis hot takes
hasn't done enough. Look at what he did. He couldn't
(36:10):
lift them in the first everybody else with Otani, what
are you gonna say, Oh, the angels can't bet. That's
not how the sport is. Well, he's not doing his
job on there. What else do you want him to do?
Speaker 3 (36:20):
He did to get traded hard enough. He decided why
did he want to stay in Anaheim?
Speaker 1 (36:27):
And he hasn't been able to draw enough players to
want to be traded there enough. You gotta be a
drawing card. You gotta be a drawing card. And he's
not a drawing card because he hasn't made it know
that he wants to stay in anaheid O las One,
a real leader would do that. That's what That's what
Bryce Harper would do. I mean, he's hot take proof.
It's outstanding. Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox is
(36:49):
number eight seven seven nine nine six six thirty six
nine The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon coming up next?
Do we have a base want a hot take on
a quarterback situation? Get ready for a big trade coming
up soon? Wait, what that's next,
