He's VJ Husky. I'm Martyspad. You're in for the guys side.
As you heard Jason Smith at his best friend Mike Harmon,
(00:56):
they were filling in earlier today for uh Gottley, who
was I think fieling for Damn Patrick. So that means well,
that means we're filing in for Daann Patrick. So I
like to make myself feel better. VJ.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
You know what I'm saying. It makes me kind of
feel good about myself.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
So yeah, but you know what, man, One thing I
love about being here and being part of the family
is we all cover each other.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
We've all done so you and I've done. We're talking
on the phone yesterday or two days ago, verbally talking.
This is this has got to be like our eighth
or ninth show. I would think together and you've.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Been around a while. Now, you've been around. You told
me what five years I'm coming up on. I thought
it was like one year or something like that.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
I started coming in, man, just to observe Mike Hill
and Kurt Morrison on Sunday. Yeah, I was just say.
Mike was like, hey, come on down, come come check
it out. And you know, then they let me speak
one time and then I get it two minutes and
then okay, get a little more, and then get a
little more, and then it starts to grow. Its like
stand up right, my first stand up I every date
in my life. It was a two minute said the
guy was like, yeah, I'll put you on. You got
(01:55):
two minutes. I'm like, damn two minutes. Oh oh wow, Okay,
my jokes aren't that quick, but I'll I'll go and
then now I can do forty five minutes an hour
on stage, so it grows.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Man. But yeah, five years bro uh.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
One of our fraternity brothers was a big good like
stand up comic and an actor in Hollywood, and he
ended up quitting our fraternity because him and I got
into a fistfight.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Did you win?
Speaker 4 (02:18):
No, he actually picked up a Him and his buddy
they picked up a chair and hit me over the
head with it.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
And what did you do to deserve that?
Speaker 4 (02:25):
And what are the progs? Cut me in the eye
and cut me in that blood over my face and
then his buddy reached into my mouth and tried to
rip my face. What?
Speaker 5 (02:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:35):
How many shots of Jager bombs did you guys do?
Speaker 4 (02:38):
And did they sort of like bite my chest and.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Stuff like that? Bikers?
Speaker 6 (02:42):
Did?
Speaker 3 (02:42):
You guys had fight marks all over? It was. It
was a mess.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
Man.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
You're tough though. Man, your son plays hockey, so I
know your son's tough. And if you let me tell
you something, man, sons are cut from their dad. We
know I'm a father of a son. Sons are cut
from their dad when a guy plays hockey. I know
you got a tough dad, because you got to be
off to play hockey.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, I want to say, first, my wife had my
kid in the figure skating. I'm like, nah na, na, No,
that's not we gotta get them out of the figures
skated in the hockey.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
Not that there's anything wrong with figure skating. Come on, bro,
you know I feel you, man. We don't have to
do the variables. Our fans, fans, our fans know how
we get down in Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
I know what you mean, bro.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
So that there's anything wrong with that, right, Bertie Frowdlegern
Jordan said about twenty past the hour, go live to Vegas.
Start talking about what we could expect is the seasons
just right around the corner, you know, just three preseason games.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I don't want to sound like an old man.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
What would you do with yourself if you had to
go through six preseason games like I had to do
back in the day, fourteen game season, six preseason games.
Think about that for a second. I mean, look, I
used to go to what as a kid, I used
to say, the Rams used to play the Dallas Cowboys
the La Times game every year. And if you have
(03:55):
like a coupon from the newspaper and like two cans
of Pepsi or something like that. You got into the game,
and that's like the one game because we couldn't really
afford to go. That was like the one game we
did every year. But six preseason games. That's crazy, you
know what I mean, that's that's that's terrible.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
Yeah, but you know, O g Man, So I mean,
at least you could tell that story. I come from
the era of I come. I was born in seventy seven,
so I come from the era of fifteen to fifteen
to sixteen games and four preseason games. So now that
there's three, now think about where we are now, Arnie.
We're at the spot now where some starters they're not
gonna play any preseason games. I don't think any Dolphins,
(04:31):
real starters, especially on offense, are gonna play any preseason game.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Homes is gonna play two series this week tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
But that's that's because this coach is Andy Reed. Andy
Reid has always done that. The one thing like Miami
for inscis is we're both Dolphin fans. And I know
Jason is a big Jet fan, so I know they're
their pis hitting about all the dolphin stuff. We're talking
to night. That's cool.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
But dude, to be honest with you, I wouldn't play them.
I wouldn't play two in the preseason.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
No, I real, but even not even like one, SERI, No, no, no, no, no, dude,
you got listen.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
You have seventeen games to get He's not getting hit
in practice.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
You know that's fine, that's fine, that's fine because of
his because of his history. I'm cool with that, because
of his history. So you did so you want him
to take a bump in a preseason game and get
a concussion to be out six weeks.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
No, but I'm just speaking of you to say that.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
But but you know, if we're gonna start doing that
game VJ, if you're gonna start telling me that it
could happen on just one hit in the preseason, then
I'm due for failure. If we're gonna start walking on
eggshells every time this guy's gonna get hit, then there's
gonna be a problem this year. You can't be, you know,
treating him like he's in bubble rap. He's a quarterback
in the NFL. You are going to get hit a
little bit. Now, Todd Brady Gorton later on in his career,
(05:42):
most of his career how to get rid of the
ball quickly, and too will learn that.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
But he's still gonna get hit. You understand that, right,
I do. I completely understand him.
Speaker 5 (05:49):
But I much rather him get hit between week one
and seventeen then get hit in a preseason game with
a second, a second or third string lineman. We're we're
checking out now, armstands out right, So you're gonna be
even playing even deeper offensive linemen in these preseason games
against the fifth round draft pick or the undrafted rookie
on the end that's trying to make that other squad's team,
(06:10):
so he don't give a damn about your line and
how bad it is. And if that's tool back there,
he come in to get a spot and get a
paycheck every Tuesday like the rest of the NFL players do.
So that that's the way my mind looks at things
and goes at it like, yeah, you could get him
in for a serious dude, just wait until the regular season.
If him waddle tarique the Backs, if they don't know
what they're doing by now, then we're we got a problem.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
By the way, just because we're on the subject of
you know, offensive livee and what happens if the Jets
get to BACTIORI from Green Bay, is that gording to happen? That,
my my goodness, that that's really gonna make me sick.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
You know, and listen, I'm much rather our division. I'll
be honest with you, man. I hope the Bills, the Jets,
and the Patriots tie all seventeen games.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
I don't even want them to win.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
I hope they tie every day because that was like, damn,
we didn't win, but we didn't lose. Like, yeah, y'all
really suck because y'all just stuck in the middle. You
don't know what you are. You're oh and seventeen. That's
what I wish would happen.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
It was quickly becoming one of the toughest divisions in football.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
Yes, that's where I'm going. I hope though, honestly, I
hope this thing comes down to.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
The last two weeks.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
I hope all four of these teams, even someone that's
sitting at seven wins, but they're gonna play a division
rival that within the last two weeks, so they can
mess it up for somebody else. That's gonna help it
for somebody. I need that in the AFC East. It
doesn't matter to me what everybody else finishes at. I
just want the Dolphins to win the division. I don't
care if we go twelve and five and the Bills
go eleven and six. It doesn't mean twelve is more
(07:35):
than eleven. So I'll take that. And it was a
push all year long. That prepares you for the playoffs.
I think kind of when you cake walk through your
division and teams are bad and you could kind of
relax the last four or five weeks, I've just othered
than the Patriots in the past. That kind of, in
my opinion, Man, that can do a team in I've
seen it too many times. You get to relax and
now you got to go to the playoffs, and now
you gotta ramp it back up.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
You can't just cut it off and cut it on.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
This is the first time in a couple of years
like the Bill are not like the overwhelming favorite in
that division. Yeah, I mean they are the favorite, but
I know a lot of people picking the Dolphins and
certainly a lot of people jumping out the Judge Span
wagon as a little bit of a long shot to
win that division.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Of VJ yep.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
And when you have Bill Belichick, and listen, I'm not
going to doubt Bill when you got Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
First of all, that defense is good. That defense is
very good.
Speaker 5 (08:20):
Their defensive backfield might be one of the top three
defensive backfields in all of football. So they're gonna be
in every game. They didn't get hand they didn't get
their as handed to them week after week. Last year,
they were in every game and beat some teams and
they probably shouldn't have bet but also lost to some
teams they shouldn't have lost too. But you cut a
Patriot game on, it's nine to three in the third quarter,
it's it's ten seven to ten six. It's gonna be
(08:42):
a defensive struggle. You're not gonna blow Belichick's defenses off
the field. I think Matt Jones is trashed. I don't
think he's a good NFL quarterback. Are gonna be a
good NFL quarterbacks? And there's the problem. Your best receiver
is one of our old guys. Your best tight end
is one of our old guys. So you got recycled
guys and you just signed z. They're like, have fun.
But I think they have a great offensive line and
have a really good defense.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
In New England.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
So they're still gonna win seven games in my opinions,
seven eight games?
Speaker 4 (09:06):
You want to tweet us big vanilla funny, I'm its
thinking genius one. All right.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
I'll tell you what I want to do here.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
When I get to some of the intriguing names at quarterback,
and there's a lot, especially a lot of young quarterbacks
this year, I want to get your take on what
kind of year you think they're gonna have. And I
want to start with brock Party. First of all, he
is going to be the starter. I mean, I'm nothing
earth shattering here, right, he's gonna I assume he's gonna
go ahead and be the starter. Look, I know what
a run he had last year, and that's truly remarkable
(09:35):
when you could be the last picking what the NFL
draft and do what he did. Yeah, it came out
of nowhere. Or maybe we're just not good at judging quarterbacks.
I don't know what it is. But doesn't it catch
up to him? I mean, sure you can't keep winning
it at that pace.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
But is he that good?
Speaker 4 (09:51):
I mean, did we all just miss the boat on
this one? He's really that good? As like everybody missed
the boat on Tom Brady. What are you thinking about
Brock perty this year?
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Nobody miss the boat. On the last NFL draft pick,
Tom Brady was picked one ninety nine. We get that,
but that's an anomaly. It hasn't happened a lot, and
Tom Brady is the exception to the rule. What I
think happens with Brock Purdy. I think he's either injured
or he's benched by week ten.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Now, remember I watch a ton of college football as well.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
I mean, you may not have a choice. And let
me explain when the NFL. The one thing I love
about the NFL is you can have these little runs.
But in the offseason all defensive coordinators and defensive coaches
do is watch film. They watch film, they learn your tennessees,
they watch it, they get film on you.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Then no one had tape on them.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
So of course, and it fits with the Shanahan system
because it pushes more than narrative that it's a quarterback
friendly offense. It's a well, no nobody had tape on
It wasn't that quarterback friendly because even though Garoppolo and
I defended, Garoppolo did get you to a super Bowl,
when if you had to replace Garoppolo from him tearing
his knee up from running out of bounds and not
even being hit. Your team went down the toilet. So
(11:00):
let's not act like that didn't happen. But when I
look at brock Perdy, I look at a guy. There's
a reason why you were drafted.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
La.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
I watched you at Iowa State. I know exactly who
you are. But now the teams have tape on you.
Pete Carroll's defense twice, you have Arizona's defense twice.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
But he still earned to be But he still earned
the right to be the star.
Speaker 5 (11:20):
What Trey went the reason I know, and I mean
that's why, and see, that's why I can't emphatically say no.
But it's almost by default because Trey Lance got hurt
last year. So if Trey Lance doesn't get hurt, horrible
now it plays. I don't think I don't think he
looks horrible. I don't think he looks horrible. I saw
ten I saw eleven to fifteen one point forty four
four touch. He was sacked four times. I watched the
(11:41):
game twice. I went back and watched the game because
he was getting killed on television.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
He was getting killed on the talk Stroyd.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
I said, Okay, let me go back and watch like
two nights ago, like two in the morning. So let
me go back my DV. Let me just watch and
see if I didn't if I miss something. There were
two sacks that were his fault, but.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
There were also two shacks it was miss It should
have been in his accept right.
Speaker 5 (12:00):
You should have been intercepted, but should have, could have,
would have I mean if I mean, if it was
an eighth we all be high.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Right.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
So at the end of the day, I don't do
the if fans and the contractions, you know what I'm saying.
I'm not worried about those. But you spent so much
on Lance. That's the problem. You spent so much on Lance.
There wasn't a lot of tape on him. He didn't
play a lot of college football. He's only got eight
played games. I think he's played eight games and has
four starts. You cannot give up on a number three
(12:26):
overall pick this soon with four starts under his belt.
You you just can't do that. And they know they can't.
They gave up too much.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
For him, Arnie, So you can't get anything for him
right now. Exactly third fourth round. I don't think.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
I was about to say, I don't think you get
a third round pick, would you?
Speaker 5 (12:42):
Okay, gm Arnie Spaniard, You're giving a third round pick
for Trey Lance right now.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
The only difference is I'm getting him at what real
cheap we're talking.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
I'm not giving up a third round for him right now.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
But that's the only one appealing thing to me right
now is that. And plus, if I want to resign them,
it's not gonna cost the Kings ransom. But you're right,
I don't want to give up a third round. But
those are two of the pluses right now.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Vi Ja, Yeah, not only that.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
If you look at Vegas, has San Francisco said at
ten and a half wins at a minus round fifty
five and a plus one twenty five. I think San
Francisco slips back a little bit this year because of.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
The quarter of divisions too easy though, and Seattle wins
the division. Seattle wins that division.
Speaker 5 (13:21):
Pete Carroll and I've dumped on them or walking through
that door, MP, I know, but they they got Geno Smith,
they got two running backs. Now that kid, Zach Sharbonney
I called his high school games for Oakes Christian and
Westlake out here in California, when him and Kaevon Thibodeau
was on that same team. Caveon Thibodau, no more ring
player that you're in high school went off to Oregon.
Now the demand on the defensive line for the New
(13:42):
York Giants, Zarbonne goes to Michigan, transfers back to UCLA.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
They pick him up.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
That was after drafting Walker out of Michigan State last year.
So they have two horses at the running back position.
They have two thousand yard receivers. Both those guys went
over thousand yards last year, both of their receivers. That defense,
Pete Carroll's done it again. Fifth round, fourth round, sixth round,
undrafted guy.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Look at these Look at these defendercies.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
This defense he's putting together again right now, I think
they're prime for twelve wins.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
They're gonna win that division. Yeah, but everybody's.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Getting four wins against Arizona and the Rams right those
teams are just out.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
I'm gonna be honest with you, man, I'm still trying
to figure the Rams out. I really am.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
I just I don't know where to go because I
think McVeigh was mentally out. I know Aaron Donald did
an interview where Aaron Donald said himself he was retired
mentally and then started kind of getting pulled on to
come back and play. Started missing it and you og man,
you know one of the like cardinal rules of sports,
when you start talking verbally about retirement.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
What are you, Arnie?
Speaker 5 (14:39):
You're retired? Yeah, once you start talking about it. So
he came back last year and then kind of had
the injuries. They were like, okay, take it out for
a year. I were to retire last year. If I
was him, I just don't know quarterback position, right, I mean,
Stafford got you the ring, but he's now a year older.
He was hurt last year. Is McVeigh really you know, engaged?
I have no idea where to go with the rams man,
(15:00):
So they could be fighting for Kleeb that's right across
the once in one oh five big now figure roll
playing for USC Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:08):

Speaker 4 (15:52):
VJ Husky, Arnie Spanier in for the guys, Jason Smith
and his best friend Miike Harmon live at the tire
rack dot Com studios. Right here on Fox Sports Radio.
We again right to our guests. You could hear them
on weekends right here on Fox Sports Radio. Does the
overnights on Friday and Saturday, Saturday intill Sunday. It's our
(16:13):
buddy Bertie Friday.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
How you doing, Bernie, gentlemen, Well, I'm in a good
mood because I had the Browns plus four tonight. There
were three strong trends. There were three strong trends favoring Cleveland.
First of all, they're playing their third game versus a
team who's only playing their second game, and since nineteen ninety,
whenever the third game is playing a second game and
the third game is the dog, they cover about sixty
(16:37):
eight percent of the time. Secondly, all of a sudden,
the Browns since twenty seventeen have been a preseason Darling
fourteen and five against the number. And finally, Super Bowl
losers are just simply overpriced. They don't really much care
if they win the Eagles while they're all one to one.
I guess right now they have only thirty one percent
against the spread in the last six years. So three
(16:58):
solid trends. Favorite in Cleveland and I'll take.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
It, my man, Bernie Friday Day and what's going on?
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Player? Talk to me? How you doing well?
Speaker 6 (17:06):
First of all, I gave you a lot of love
last year. You're right about Ezekiel after the contract.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Thank you.
Speaker 6 (17:10):
But you're killing him to not man, you sound like
Eddie Murphy and Harlem.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
I'll cut you.
Speaker 5 (17:15):
Hey, that's right. And you know what, man, I can
recite that movie word for word. I'm that much of
an Eddie Murphy.
Speaker 6 (17:20):
We're gonna have to get bleeped a lot. That's yeah, absolutely,
But I must tell you, guys, they had a scrimmage
against Green Bay today. Talk to one of my moles.
Ezekiel looks good. He had fourteen snaps, caught a touchdown pass,
ran for one. He's blocking, he's catching the ball in
the backfield. Raman dere Stevenson loves him, and Dante Scarnecki
said his veteran presence is going to make our offensive
(17:43):
line better. So I think he's got a real role there, guys,
I really do.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
I told I told Arnie I was only going to
take one, like what one one fumble or one miss
block in the preseason game, and I think Bill may
cut him.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
But I will move on to it topic.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
All my fantasy teams this year, I've named them Harball's Cheeseburger.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
That's right. All my fantasy teams are calling the Balls cheeseburger,
damn right.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
Because the NCAA tried to take out MA Wolverrines because
they know we have the best team in the nation.
This is the best team Harball's ever had, and we're
gonna win it all this year. Give me some r
ball Upstate stuff, man, what's going on up there? It
looks like the four games is not gonna go down
and talk to me about Michigan. Give me, give me
some numbers of odds, man, I can put some money
down on.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Well.
Speaker 6 (18:30):
First of all, yeah, this is getting the Cats getting
kicked down the road to twenty twenty four. The COI
Committee on Infractions didn't approve the four games suspension. They
wanted six. It got a little testy. I talked to
one of my Michigan molls. Tuesday, Harball had a press conference.
It all started. The cheeseburger thing is really no big deal.
But the NCAA says Harball lied to them and that's
(18:51):
where you get into trouble to keep ups always worse
than cheeseburger. So they got them on a few other
infractions as well. But Harball was like, look, with all
the stuff going on in the NCAA, you're doing this
to me. You're gonna do me like this? Why me?
This makes no sense. We've always run a clean program. Frankly,
that's why we have won a national championship, because we
won a clean program. Here's where it kids interesting. Harbo's
buyouts only two point two million. The thought is he
(19:14):
turns fifty nine His people told me that, hey, Sean
Payton's fifty nine, look what he got. Harball's fifty nine,
Look what he got? You just could get interesting in January.
I expect Michigan to have a good year. They only
have two games on their schedule, Ohio State and they're
at Penn State. They're gonna be a favorite in every
game they play. He has the best team he has
ever had, a lot of veteran back on offense. It's
(19:36):
all setting up. We'll see what happens. The thing is,
if they get on the field with Georgia, they can't
beat Georgia at their own game. Harball lines up, knocks
your ass off the ball. He's got to get a
little bit more creative. Reason Ohio State confused Georgia was
because of their offensive sets and their schemes, and they
put athletes in space to make plays. Harball is still
(19:57):
a little North and South. He's a little Vanilla. So
I think it's lining up for a Michigan to be
back in the playoff. But you still got to do it.
We'll see what happens.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
Yea Bernie NFL Week one, you have a trend that
pays off seventy percent of the time.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
What's going on in Week one of the NFL.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
Well, it's one of my favorite ones, guys, and it
has to do with divisional dogs on Week one seventy
six percent. Now since twenty fourteen, there are six divisional
games Week one this year. That's the most I've seen
since twenty fourteen. So that means there's six divisional dogs. Now,
why is September so profitable and for Week one so
(20:31):
profitable for divisional dogs Because that week one all teams
are at full strength. Dogs are still very optimistic. Depression
hasn't set in yet. The good teams haven't fully jelled,
you haven't pulled apart from the pack Coaches have had
months to game plan for that first game. It tends
to tighter games and the more likelihood of dogs covering
and even you know, upset. So of those six divisional matchups,
(20:56):
they'll be at least one or two straight up dog wins.
Expect the doughters to go minimum four and two, maybe
even five to one. It's been a real solid trend
since twenty fourteen.
Speaker 5 (21:05):
Burnie, I got one last, real juicy one for you, man.
I like this one right here. Any Packer player with
ten plus regular season touchdowns rushing or receiving at a
plus four fifty twenty twenty two, Watson had seven, Dylan
hot seven. I know they're interjecting Jordan Love here, man,
but this one keeps talking to me in my dreams.
Speaker 6 (21:24):
Bro, I like that play. Green Bay has a very
good roster. If Jordan Love can just game manage, green
Bay could be Okay, he still gotta do it. I'm
not one hundred percent convinced, but Christian Watson can fly, yes,
and if they can get into the red zone and convert. Look,
we'll know if Jordan Love's successful based on what he
does on third down, the red zone and in the
(21:47):
fourth quarter third downs some money down, they don't pay
it a punt. Christian Watson's got to become their go
to guy. He can. You figure he's gonna break some
long ones. The bottom line is you got to get
him the ball in space. He can easily score ten time.
Now this year, I see that.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Bernie, you said, Yeah, the Browns plus the four, that's
a winner. People want to know what's going on in
Week two? Any inside scoops. I know that Mahomes playing
a couple series. Do you like anybody coming up on
either Friday or Saturday, or there's one game on Sunday.
Speaker 6 (22:15):
I haven't fired on any of the weekend games yet.
I'm gonna start studying it tonight. Yeah, Mahomes is going
to get a couple series, I know, Josh Allen is
gonna start. Justin Fields is not going to start. Comes
down to two things, guys, As we've talked about before.
The reason the preseason, the reason the pros like the
feast in the preseason is because you got one team
on one sideline who wants to win. In the other sideline,
(22:36):
they don't really care. And it's all on record now.
Mike Tomlin likes to win. Sean McDermott likes to win.
Kyle Shanahan likes to win. Doug Peterson doesn't care if
he wins. Neither does Sean McVay or Matt Leafleur or
Dan Campbell. The other thing you try to do is
you look at the quarterback rotations, and whoever typically has
the better quarterback rotation heading into the fourth quarter, you're
(22:56):
gonna have a real leg up. All right, Buffalo actually
has a pretty good quarterback rotation. Josh Allen's gonna play
then Kyle Allen will play and Matt Barkley he'll be
in the fourth quarter. There's a guy who started NFL
games for crying out loud. So just keep an eye
on your quarterback rotations, keep an eye on the coaches
who want to win, and realize certain teams are gonna
be overpriced. You know, Baltimore wants to win, but they're
(23:18):
gonna be overpriced again. So keep an eye and make
sure you're not you know, you're not overpaying for a game,
you know, and you're not too sucked in on the
line because you a certain team has an advantage.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Bernie, before we let you go.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
I mean, we're within what nine days now of college football?
What are we all concentrating on realignment and not paying attention?
Are you jumping on anybody early as they're a sexy team?
Not great matchups in week zero? There's some big spreads
out there. Also, anything look good for you in week
zero or nothing?
Speaker 6 (23:50):
I haven't fired on it yet, but the deon Sanderson.
Colorado is getting twenty and a half against TCU and
I wasn't gonna touch that game. But from what I'm
here in Colorado's offense looks very dynamic. Now, I don't
think their defense will be able to stop a parade
this year, but I do think offensively they're going to
get their points so that backdoor can lay open. Right now,
(24:12):
I'm leaning I might play half a unit on Colorado
Deion Sanders week one at TCU. That's a game on Fox,
of course, ninety in Pacific on September two. As far
as week zero, haven't fired on anything yet, and you know,
I just got to do a little bit more homework, guys.
Speaker 5 (24:27):
Not even Navy Notre Dame with that twenty and a
half of Norre Dame. Navy's a you know, triple option
type of offense. They have history playing against Nord Dame.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
Yeah, yeah, that's a great point. VJ. Navy always confuses
Notre Dame with.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
The triple options.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
You can't practice against it, you can't simulate against it.
Notre Dame's got a brand new quarterback transfer from Wake Forest,
who you would expect is going to have a big
time year. First game, new offense, new offensive coordinator, new system.
So that's a good angle, that's a good spot play.
I could only lean Navy looking at.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
That game, absolutely, Bertie, When can they tune in and
listen to you, my friend.
Speaker 6 (25:02):
Eleven pm Pacific Friday night, eleven to two, eleven to
three Saturday night. Of course, Saturday Night catches twelve thirty.
You'll get you'll get a sample of Uncle Vj's corner.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
Yes, sir, I love it. Bertie, always a pleasure. My
friend will catch up with.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
You later on.
Speaker 6 (25:17):
Thanks for having means you.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Bernie fratt On tune on and got two ships on
the weekend. Love that Friday into Saturday. I love Bernie
Saturday the Sunday went out the vegascy took me out
the breakfast. I made sure I owned two breakfast, took
one back to the room. Today he's paying. I'm gonna
get a couple of breaks. I'm gonna charge you.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
I g you did your ig model thing right there,
or I should have got take two stays.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
I should have gotten two stakes. By the way, the
end of your first year, discovered credit cards automatically double
all the cash back you've earned. That's right, everything you've
earned doubled. Seriously see terms and check it out for
yourself at discover dot com. Slash match Washington with another
new old name. We're gonna get to that story that's
coming up. That plus we'll still have some quarterbacks look at.
(26:02):
But first let's see what's trending.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
We breathe in.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
We bring in our buddy Steve, the saga what's going
on to saga?
Speaker 7 (26:08):
Hello again, you mentioned the Notre Dame Navy opener that's
coming up.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Remember Notre Dame used to beat Navy.
Speaker 7 (26:13):
Every year for almost forty years, dronkly, and then finally
about fifteen years ago, Navy beat him three out of four.
They broke the stretch with a three overtime win. Well,
Notre Dame was a ranked team and barely held on
to win against Navy and Baltimore last year. By the way,
we have a final from Williamsport, PA. They have called
the game. It is official Elsagundo California winner for to
(26:37):
three over Ohio. They've determined with the very bad weather
tonight and there was a long rain delay and also
the curfew coming up, four innings is an official game
there and four to three is the final. It's apparently
once this storm passes, not supposed to be raining the
next week or so in Williamsport.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
By the way, this sacre.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
Should I tell this story about the tickets I got
for the should Theymme Air Force game with another host
that we worked with at another place.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
And how years past? Yeah, this was years ago.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
Let's hear it like, I'll tell you know what, I'll
toe it after the updates.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Okay, so too all, you'll love it, you'll okay.
Speaker 7 (27:14):
As far as the Williams sports stuff there, they still
have game scheduled for tomorrow the rest of the weekend.
It's not this kind of bad weather again for the
next week or so. Seattle Washington won its opener today
beat Maine won nothing wins for Curisaw and Taiwan. Meanwhile,
in the NFL, did you know a couple of years
ago NFL owners approved eliminating overtime in the preseason, so
(27:38):
we had a tie game tie game at Philadelphia tonight,
the final eighteen eighteen Eagles against the Browns. Philadelphia got
a touchdown with about six minutes to go and a
two point pass to tie the game. Cleveland's kicker Cade
York was three for three on field goals and with
about two minutes to go, lined up for a forty
seven yarder and missed it, but with a penalty, they
(28:01):
got a rekick five yards closer, and then he missed
that as well. So eighteen all is the final two
games on Friday. Most NFL teams will be playing this Saturday,
and Bernie's right Bears quarterback Justin Fields will not play
Saturday at Indy. Denver says running back Javonte Williams will
get about ten to twelve snaps Saturday night at San Francisco.
The forty nine Ers said today that quarterback Brock perty
(28:22):
In the starting offense could play a series or two
this weekend. Two late games in Major League Baseball, The
Diamondbacks still lead at San Diego three to one going
to the bottom of the eighth and a pitcher's duel
at Dodger Stadium. LA has won ten in a row.
Dodgers and Brewers are scoreless bottom of the six. That's
Lance Linn for the Dodgers against Corbyn Burns of the
Brewers burned so far in this game eight strikeouts in
(28:45):
five and a third. Detroit at Cleveland was rained out.
Mets beat the Cardinals four to two, Winsdaday for Seattle
and Washington. Meanwhile, the longtime Buffalo Sabers announced to Rick jennerret.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Has passed away.
Speaker 7 (28:58):
Aw man, I know you've had to Arenie relatives from Buffalo.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
This guy is a complete legends there, oh, big time legended.
You know. I saw people on Twitter making comments. It's
very sad people being known from the hockey game on
you know, with the sticks and the paddles, the Rick
Jennerett hockey. But he's been a long time announcer, so
sad to see that.
Speaker 7 (29:19):
From nineteen seventy one until the retirement a year ago.
That's wow, long wow, eighty one years old he passed away.
Let's get a clip, shall way go back to the
nineteen seventy five Stanley Cup Finals.
Speaker 8 (29:32):
Oh my god, the more to the corner rover between
the legs, I murder the run and the Buffalo Sabers
are right back in the Stanley Cup Final winning are mine?
Speaker 7 (29:45):
The more runnerver Rick jennerot absolute legend in Buffalo. That
was the nineteen seventy five finals that the Champs Philly won.
This guy was the longest tenured broadcaster with a single
team in the history the National Hockey League.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
Big to wow.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Thanks at the SEGA, of course. VJ Husky, Arny Span
You're right here on Fox Sports Radio. All right, I'm
gonna tell this story real quick, since we brought up
a little college football and Notre Dame. I used to
work for another network. One of the other hosts was
a really good friend of mine. I'm not gonna bring it.
I'm not gonna slander his name in this thing, but
he had a tendency to party a little bit. Let's
(30:23):
just say, right, Well, we went to the Notre Dame
Air Force game. The network was in Chicago, and we
were living in Chicago, so we went.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
To South Bend.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
We got tickets from our owner, now a service that
doesn't seem like a big thing, but the owner and
his son, the owner's dad was a played for Notre
Dame football. He was the captain, like in nineteen forty five,
and then later on he became the head coach of
Notre Dame and for about two three years. So yeah,
(30:56):
that's a pretty big deal if you know what I
mean that. You know, you're a star, you were a captain,
you played there, you were head coach there, so you know,
kind of a big deal. So he gave us his
tickets to the Notre Dame Air Force game, and of
course we may have thrown back a couple of beers
or two and Air Force upset Notre Dame in overtime,
(31:21):
and we were hooting and howering, but we didn't realize,
you know, we were sitting in the higher up of
the alumni section for the Irish, and they didn't take
kindly to it, and they were getting hissed off of us,
like you wouldn't believe. I'm telling you, if they had
baseball bats, they would have hit us.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
In the head. I was gonna ask, did you get
hit with a cheer?
Speaker 6 (31:45):
There?
Speaker 3 (31:45):
So might trying to rip your face open near to Arnie.
But it gets worse. Somebody finds out, well, it gets worse.
It gets worse.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
Somebody finds out you know who we were, and found
out that the tickets were giving us to the coach,
and they took away a season tickets. So now we
have to explain to a guy that was the captain
of the team, was the star player on the team,
and head coach of the team why he got his
tickets taken away because we were acting like drunken fools.
(32:15):
I'm surprised they didn't fire us on the spot. I'm
surprised he didn't just say get out of my office.
I gotta tell you, it was like one of the
most I blamed it on the other guy just to
let you know that because it was really mostly his fault.
But it was like one of the most uncomfortable meetings
I think I ever had in my life.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
DJ.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
Really it was. It was terrifying. I was I was
shaking going into that. I think about the the guy.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Was a star. He was a star for Notre Dame football.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
I mean, you don't get any bigger than you played,
your coach, you were the captain, and we got his
tickets taken away because we were hooting the hour in
a little bit too much and Air Force one in
overtime and that.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
So whose tickets? Whose tickets got taken away? Before I
make a comment.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
It was it was our owner's tickets, the guy who
was the player and the head coach of the team.
Speaker 5 (33:06):
Okay, oh oh oh, okay, okay, I was trying to
follow this. Okay, So because of your guys acts, because of.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Your actions, Yes, think it's got to take it over
the guy that gave you all the tickets.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Yes, you gotta take that. Yeah, it shouldn't be you
should have been scared. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, like I said,
he used to be the captain of the team. When
he played in the nineteen forties, he was head coach.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Of the team. Did he ever get his tickets back? Yeah,
he got him back. Thank yeah, thank god, Yeah, thank god.
Speaker 5 (33:31):
I was forgived and almost forgive me.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Yeah, yes, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
We need to learn more forgiveness in the world. Listen
if he if they were for a lifetime, I would
tell you, man, I'll stit with you. Back to the door.
Even when you go to McDonald's, make sure you can
see the door. Make sure you can see the door.
Speaker 4 (33:47):

Arnie Span you're in for the guys, Jason Smith at
his best friend Mike Harmon take you through this Thursday,
seventeenth day of August. All right, we want to get
the VJAS one seventeen, your one hundred and seventeen predictions VJ.
And of course she never could talk too much. Dall
(35:00):
Cowboys and Dok Prescott, So you tell me what's the
intel on Prescott?
Speaker 3 (35:07):
How's he going to be this year?
Speaker 4 (35:08):
I had Miami in Dallas as my original pick for
the Super Bowl. I took Dallas out, not feeling it anymore,
worried about the running back position, was powered coming off
a serious injury. But what are you hearing about the
Cowboys and our buddy DK Prescott out there?
Speaker 5 (35:23):
Well, my man, Doak Prescott made the mistake, in my opinion,
of saying that he was going to not throw more
than tenor inceptions. And this is coming off of a
guy who led the league and the interceptions last year,
you know what I'm saying. So I look at his
passing yards and that's where I kind of want to
see where a good prediction could be made. Vegas has
(35:45):
got it at four thousand and a half flat. So
four thousand and a half yards, yeah, exactly. But the
overall on that is a plus one zh five and
I like that. That's why I that's why I go
with the over there, because I.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Don't like their running backs.
Speaker 5 (36:02):
Pollards is a franchise guy coming off of a broken leg.
They're going to have to throw the football around this
year to be able to keep up with the Eagles
and keep up with the rest of the NFC and
hopefully get to the playoffs and win a playoff game.
This year, it's gonna be on deck. And I think
that's why he's getting pounded. Some other reasons too that
(36:22):
I'll keep to myself, but I think that's why he's
getting pound and he's getting broken down so much. We're
seeing all these clips of practice, you know, players chirping
at him, and they want to make a big deal
about that.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
You got people going to the.
Speaker 5 (36:33):
Camp and the reporting that yeah, they don't respect them,
and this and that, And then I watched Michael Parsons
and some guys getting to a fight, and I watched
the one guy that was able to calm Michael Parsons down,
who's probably Dallas's best player pound for pound on their
fifty three main roster, their best players, Michael Parsons, and
the one guy though, that can calm him down and
grab him by the back of those shoulder pads and
(36:54):
kind of pull him close and walk away and chirp, chirping,
talking woo woo woo in his ear? Was that Prescott
that told me? That told me whose team it was?
Right right then and there.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
Think about what Cowboy fans are going to say, because
if you look at the first four games of the schedule,
they play at the Giants home against the Jets, at
the Cardinals and the Patriots. At worst, they looks like
three and one, possibly four, and oh if they come
out of that, you know, Cowboy fans are gonna be
feeling their oads going into San Francisco to take other
(37:27):
forty nine ers for that one.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (37:29):
Well, here, this is when I look at the schedule
with Dallas, and I always look at the first seven.
That's how I judge how I think a season gonna go.
So when you look at their schedule. At the Giants,
I think it's a dub. They get those bump Jets.
At home, I think that's a dub. They get the
Cardinals to get the Patriots, and then at the Niners.
Now here's the thing about the at the Niners game.
I just told you guys two segments ago. I think
(37:49):
Brock Purty the league, it catches up to him. The
league catches up to Brock Party and then you're gonna
have to go to Trey Lance. And Trey Lance hasn't
had enough playing time. I'm not gonna say that Tree
Lance can't get it done, but we've en't seen it,
and he's been.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
If they go five and zer and beat Seventis and
San Francisco, we.
Speaker 5 (38:04):
Won't be able to go. Yeah, we won't be able
to stand the Cowboy fans. But I give you something
better than that. So the next two are against LA's teams,
at the Chargers and then home against the Rams. Wow,
I think the Chargers are a team that also takes
a step back this year.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
I just seven and zero for the Cowboys, it could
could be, could be it.
Speaker 5 (38:26):
Well, I'm gonna do Listen. Part of this is an opposite.
If you remember last year, my big Vj's prediction was
Cowboys were missing the playoffs, and I missed terribly on it.
So what I don't do is I'm a good businessman.
I don't double down on bad decisions. I don't double
down on bad opinions in sports talk. If if I'm
proving wrong, that I'm wrong, and then I reevaluate this situation.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
That defense is damn good.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
That defense is gonna keep them in every single football game.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
They have one of the top five defenses in football.
Speaker 5 (38:54):
So all Dak has to do real talk, don't turn
the ball over and count and Tony Pollard and the
other run of listen man, when you see sea hole run,
real talk, see hole run.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
Now, the question I have was gonna be but that's fine.
But guess what.
Speaker 5 (39:10):
Nineteen sixteen is still a win, Seventeen thirteen is still
a win. Twenty one to twenty is still a win.
Arnie this Oh yeah, you're right. The defense is gonna
have to carry. You can't give me twenty points though,
Let's let's get real. You can't give me twenty one
points and with this offense. Now, my only question about
the receiving corps is mister drop seas himself and we
saw it in college, but for some reason people keep
ignoring it. And that's Ceedee Lamb. Ceedee Lamb has never
(39:32):
been a number one to me. He's more of a two.
He's not a dominant number one. Trading Amari Cooper was
the big mistake that actually affects DAK and affects this
offense in games where they can't score. Because tell me
who the other receivers, Michael Gallup. You guys are gonna
try to convince me that Michael Gallup is finally gonna
be the guy they got.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
Brandon Cooks, right, Okay, old Brandon Cooks.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
If this is Brandon Cooks from five years ago, yeah, great,
sign me up four years ago, sign me up Brandon
Cooks today.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
No, I'm good.
Speaker 5 (40:00):
So that's how I see Dallas and listen, the defense
is so good. I'm just looking all the way down
to the Eagles game and I'm like, okay, that could
be their first loss. But you're telling me, are any
of these teams but Ardia Giants better than Dallas? Are
the Jets better in Dallas, Cardinals, Patriots, Niners, Chargers, and Rams.
All I'm asking people is just tell me which one
of those teams that you think are better than Dallas. Okay, fine,
(40:23):
they start five and two, five and two, We're still
not gonna No, the fans are still gonna be running
the arounds at five and two.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
So that's for damn sure.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
By the way, it end of your first year Discover
credit cards auto about to quick double all the cash
back you've earned.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
That's right, everything you've earned doubled.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
