Speaker 3 (01:21):
I'm like, no, not really, I know what. I don't know.
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Yeah, I don't know why. I don't know why you
would not want to look at me. But whatever you're studying,
got whatever. You're a good looking guy, I know. I'm
just like, no, I really don't need to I think
you know. I'm just wearing a sweatshirt.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
You guys like to dress up there in that la
I'm sure you're wearing three piece suits and all that.
But I'm like, no, I really don't need to see you. Guys,
I know what you look like. I'm one Time's enough
for me. I I go on the internet and see
what you want.
Speaker 5 (01:49):
No, no three piece suits, just a fresh designer team man.
Little jewelryes draped around in that little watch on the stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
No, you are into the plank. I want people to
know that. Yes, I like to drake, give out right
off the back. Give out your Twitter hand or your
ex hand or whatever it is.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
They can get you your Twitter.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
The big Vanilla Funny Big Vanilla Funny Man on Twitter
and also the Big Vanilla Funny on Instagram.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Why that could you make it any longer? What is up?
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Man?
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Listen, listen, don't start with me. You're the reason why.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
You're the reason why I changed my Twitter handle before
from Husky Entertainment. Here I am with two cs, building
my own brand, getting good work and good hours here,
good shows here, got our own show, Martin and VJA
on Saturdays from four to seven. Really it advance in
my career. So I said, okay, dude, do the business thing.
Get some LLCs so on your social media. You want
the LLC to kind of you know, grow so Husky entertainment.
(02:40):
But Husky e t because entertainment was too long. They
wouldn't let me put it there. And you you killed
me for my Twitter. You really said, I hate your Twitter.
But yeah, get him in a Husky tea. I'm like, man,
So I went back. I said, okay, you know what, fine,
he's an OG. He probably knows, so I listen. You
know me, I listened to OG's man. When OG say something,
even if it's you, probably should take it in and do.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Something with us.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
So I said, Okay, I'm doing this whole big Vanilla
funny thing my stand up comedy and my films and stuff,
so I might as well just make it that. And
what's funny is it's grown since it went to Big
Vanilla Funny.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
So you helped that. You know what I was.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
You know, I did a segment a long time ago
when I first got the Phoenix called that make me famous,
you know, or make me rich. We gotta get you
with some If anybody's listening, you can get VJ in
the movies or stand up or anything like that. I
told you I did a nude scene in one of
the American Pieo.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
I'm not knowing. I'm not kidding around you. No, remember
the conversation we had.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
Yeah, I did a nude scene in one of the
offshoots of American Pio. I was supposed to be in
Final Destination. That was my biggest regret when I was
out in LA I didn't do enough movies and stuff.
So but anyway, we got a lot to get too.
There's a lot of sports going on. We're gonna be
here four hours. Bernie Fratto will be our insider from
Las Vegas. He's gonna join us sixth tower. We'll have
(03:56):
all out to get there. The Sega will join us
a little bit later on. And now we're number three.
We got the bonus hour. We got a lot of
football to get to, you know, obviously preseason week two.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Before we even get to that, I texted you earlier today.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Because obviously we know a couple of weeks ago Miami
lost Jalen Ramsey for if not the whole season, better.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Part of the season.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
He'll be now Armstead turn Armstead goes down today and
I immediately went to a text you and said, that's it.
Season's over. Over O V E R, with the space
in between each letter. I goes over. And of course
plank H, my partner on Sunday, texted me and you know,
he was giving me a rough time. That goodness though
(04:38):
he's not gonna need surgery. But what kind of Dolphin
fan are you? Man? Not gonna have been a major injury.
I hate Dolphin fans that are like, good, no big deal,
no big deal, it's not gonna you know, man, that
would have been a big deal.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Man, We're going down one at a time. It's killing me,
you know, it's it's killing me.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
The reason why it's no big deal because we didn't
know what the injury was yet. And when other players
speed can talk and they go, look, hey, I talked
to him and he said he's fine, he's just it
was a Tarik Hill tygerk Hill said yeah, he told me.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Look, he said, but he got carted off a car.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
They do that.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
They do that. That's that's all precaution.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
Now carting off five years and in previous that meant
something really bad. I think over the last five years
in the NFL, especially in training camps, we've seen so
many carting offs and it's a bruis knee, a strained calf.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
It was Joe Burrow was carted off. It was a
right right, it was. It was a calf. And I
think now he had a serious that's gonna keep him
out for a while.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
I know, but I still think now that we're they're
doing bigger contracts, there's more money, there's you know, the
league is a lot more fragile. You can't hit full
pads all the time now, every precaution, for every dollar
and red penny you put into a player, I see
franchises now all adopting the same thesis stuff.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
No, no, no, hey, can you stand up, don't worry
about it. Get the car. What's the car guy there
for you?
Speaker 5 (05:57):
Send over there in the shade, Drinka, gatoray, get get you,
get over here, pick up our our start franchise quarterback
two hundred plus million, and let's will come in and
let's no no walk in. So I think when we
hear cart it off, people panic. But now when we
hear cart office, okay, let's just see what it is. Guys,
they car everybody off.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
That is jay it was.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
It was a little bit more than that. At least
didn't seem like if they were talking. The first thing
they said was good news, he's not gonna need surgery.
Whoa whoa surgery? I hey, you gotta slowed down here.
I thought you're gonna tell me, okay, it's just gonna
be a couple of weeks. You started scaring me when
you're using the S word like that to throw it out, surgery.
It didn't occur to me that that's what.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
It was gonna be, you know what I mean. Jobs.
But I did get a little nervous because that would
have been a death blow to Miami. That that could
have been really bad if they would have gonna gone
ahead and lost him.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
That would have hurt. Yeah, that would have hurt tremendously.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
We know that.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
I've been telling everybody all summer long. I'm tempering my
expectations for my beloved Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Oh no, no, no, it's let me explain.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
I know, I know you, I know you hate me
and love me at the same time. It's it's like
being it's like being mid and a dime at the
same time. You know what I'm saying. It works for
some people. But what I'm realizing this year is we
are solid as any roster in the league at every
single level on the field except the offensive line. And
(07:24):
they've tried and they've tried to fix it. When we
went and got Armstead. People have to remember he only
played nine games the previous year, so he'd already had
some injury questions when he was in New Orleans. But
what were you gonna do with your Miami You need
a tackle. He's the big fish in the free agent.
If we don't go get him, our line is even
worse than it was coming into that next season. Then
(07:44):
it was the previous year. Austin Jackson former number eighteen
overall pick, first round out of USC.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Who I saw my own eyes. He never already jumped
off the field.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
To me, there was never a time I went to
a USC game and watched Austin Jackson play tackle and
go man, he's mauling on man. Look how he's given
the quarterbacks so much time. So when he went in
the first round, it was like a almost like a
Scooby Dude reaction, like, uh, okay, we do need a lineman.
We do have two first round pancks. You're spending the
late teen one on the lineman. Okay, yeah, you can
(08:15):
put the film the highlights on. It showed me all
the good stuff, of course, but all right, so that's
been a problem with him, the kid out in order Dame.
It's just been a turnstyle and we need aren't that
there because he plays that left side and he's got
to help protect two of this year with the concussion stuff,
we had no choice but to go get the guy.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
But this is what he is. He missed time last year. Arnie.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
You know I was gonna say I and we'll get
to some stuff that we're looking forward to in week
two of the preseason. But I was. I was a
little bit in tears there when I saw the Jets
get Dalvin Cook.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
I'm like, oh no, that's that closes the gap. I
don't care what.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
They say about running backs, and it's not worth a
half a point or any any blow dy on that.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
That that closed the gap little bit more.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
You know, I thought the Dolphins and the Bills were
the two teams that were gonna find it out for
the division. Now I'm thinking maybe it could be a
three team race. All I know is that the Patriots
will be in the last place for sure. I don't
care if they designed Ezekiel. We'll get to that later on.
But I didn't like the Dolvin Cook siding for being
a Miami fan that really really helped the Jets.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
You know, the one fan I won't be is the
fan that wanted him, and then when he signed somewhere else,
it's like, oh, I didn't want him anyway. I made
sure that I put my pains out on my show
and other shows and the platforms leading up to it.
When free agency first started and he and we knew
he was gonna get let go by Minnesota, I said, okay,
let When he just let go we're gonna cut Byron Jones.
That's gonna save us the thirty one million. We'll have
(09:42):
some money to play other players. And he's a guy
they should go get. But as time went on, and
as he went to visit Miami and there was a
deal that supposedly was out there, then Boomer science and
puts out that there's been a seven million dollar deal
on the table for him in Minnesota. Like Minnesota wanted
to bring him back, just not at the price that
he wanted. So he had another deal in Uh, you know,
supposedly the Miami dude I was out there. But as
(10:04):
time goes on, Arnie, you have to be with the team.
You gotta be in the playbook. You gotta be with
the guys. You gotta you gotta form the camaraderie. And
as Tom continue to grow on and then when he
went up to the Jets camp, it's like I got
on ready and say, you know what, Look, I would
still love to have him, but if you're not gonna
sign by now, we're about to start, like we gotta
get going. We can't wait on you. I like our
running back room. I like Moster, I like Wilson and
(10:25):
this kid a chain. This kid out of Texas A
and M.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Yeah, I hear about that. You know, Blake was telling
me about man.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Yeah, man, he could be Chris Johnson if you remember
who CJ. Two K was for the Titans. He has
that type of breakaway speed, that type of balance, and
he's every coach, every player is praising him. Now I
know it's training camp. He looked great in the preseason game.
Now every time he touched the ball, you can see
the first step explosion. He's like a Porsch.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
He goes.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
He don't go one, two, three four, he goes one
three five. He's that type of speed which fits what
we do there. So uh, they can have him. Man,
and and and I'm not I'm a Florida State cond
a side chick fan. Michigan's my team, but I've always
had a side crush on Florida State, so I liked him,
and I was a Families in Minnesota, so I'm not
gonna wish him bad and listen, take them. I still
think we're a better football team. I think the Jets
(11:10):
are in trouble because of their offensive line, and I
think their defense can't replicate what it did last year.
But we'll find all that out. But as far as
Dalvin Cook is concerned, it's cool.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
He wanted to go there. He took the most money obviously.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
You know.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
It also told me Arnie that Miami didn't offer him
that contract because if they didn't offer him that contract,
he'd have been signed in Miami. So maybe it was
four or five million somewhere in that range, and he
was just waiting to get a better deal. You know,
Jets struck to deal with him, so you know, you know,
hats off, kudos, So he made money. So I'm never
mad at the brother forgetting his bread.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
I don't think it's because they were gonna get Jonathan
Taylor or anything like that, or maybe there was a
backup plan. So I was I thought maybe they were.
Maybe they're just happy with what they have, like you're
happy with the running back situation.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
Yeah, I like our I like our running back room
because at the end of the day, if you can't block,
it doesn't matter who's it running back. So unless our
line gets better shows improvement, it doesn't. Yeah, he'll make
some plays himself, but you can't live off that for
eighteen games seventeen game, Excuse me, you can't live off that.
He's not Barry Sanders, He's not Bo Jackson. You know
(12:09):
what I'm saying, Like those guys can live off a
career of making plays on their own whenever they had
to do it, good line or bad line. He's not
that guy. So in less our line blocks than even
the backs we got ere in trouble.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
By the way, Twitter the best way to get a
hold of us during the show at Big There. I
screwed it up already at Big Vanilla Funny there you go.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
See you need to change that. God, you know I'm
not changing. I'm not changing again.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Why did you just go with something like at VJ
or something like that? Yours is stinking genius?
Speaker 4 (12:41):
Like what stick a genius one? But all you have
to do is put in a couple of letters and
it comes in right away.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
You know what I mean? Well, they were too lazy
to scroll. That's not my problem.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
By the way, Cleveland leads Philadelphia the only game tonight
eighteen ten. Do you get into preseason that you watch
this was plank. It means one of those guys like
I get off my lack. It means nothing out o
care Jason Martin when I filled in the last Saturday,
I figure it was He's like, no, it means nothing out,
don't care.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
It's boring, you know. And you know he was just so.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Anti preseason, and I'm I'm probably the completely the other way.
I put probably a little bit more stock in it
today should but I love watching it.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
I like it me too.
Speaker 5 (13:21):
I watch I DV as you know on the DVR
king here are sports Radio. I watch every every preseason game,
at least until deep in the fourth quarter because I'm
a guy that likes to be ahead of the curve
on certain players. And I like to find twos, twos
that you can talk about in August and September that
these teams will need in December and January because injuries
are inevitable.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
So there's some twos.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
I've seen them, like, hey man, that backup linebacker right there,
they lose a linebacker, They're okay because that kid can
slot right in and play. You see things like that
in preseason. That's why I'm I'm committed to it, all.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Right, that's crazy, that's crazy.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
You know, You're like Plank, But in college Plank watches
all the you know, the college games and he does
the stuff.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
Yeh, that's crazy. Oh yeah, I watch anywhere. I'm DVR.
I'm watch anywhere from eight to nine college games a
Saturday easily. Oh yeah, college, I'm I'm watching all the games.
I got to set up. I'm all in on that.

on with Kareem Hunt, what's going on with Josh Jacobs
and some of the other guys out there. We'll get
to that all coming up next right here on Fox

Good evening, everybody, We're bro I think live from the
ti rack dot Com studios tyrec dot com. We'll help

hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack
dot com the way tyre buying should be. He's Vja Husky.
I'm already, Spad. You're in for the guys side. As
(15:19):
you heard Jason Smith and his best freend, Mike Harmon,
they were filling in earlier today for Gottlieb, who was
I think filling in for Dan Patrick. So that means well,
that means we're filling in.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
For Dan Patrick. So I like to make myself feel better.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
VJ.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
You know what I'm saying. It makes me kind of
feel good about myself.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
So yeah, But you know what though, man, One thing
I love about being here and being part of the families.
We all cover each other. Man, We've all done so
you and I've done. We were talking on the phone
yesterday or two days ago, verbally talking this is this
has got to be like our eighth or ninth show.
I would deem together. And you've been around a while now,
you've been around when you told me what five years, Bobby,
I'm coming up on I.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Get out of here. I thought it was like one
year or something like that.
Speaker 5 (16:02):
I started coming in, man, just to observe Mike Hill
and Kurt Morrison on. So yeah, I was just Mike
was like, hey, come on down, come come check it out,
and you know, then they let me speak one time
and then I get it two minutes, and then get
a little more, and then get a little more and
then it starts to gross. Like stand up right, my
first stand up I ever dated in my life, it
was a two minute said. The guy was like, yeah,
I'll put you on. You got two minutes. I'm like,
(16:23):
damn two minutes. Oh oh wow, Okay, my jokes aren't
that quick, but I'll go. And then now I can
do forty five minutes an hour on stage, so it grows, man.
But yeah, five years Brouh.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
One of our fraternity brothers was a big good like
stand up comic and an actor in Hollywood, and he
ended up quitting our fraternity because him and I got
to a fistfight.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Did you win?
Speaker 4 (16:45):
No, he actually picked up a him and his buddy
they picked up a chair and hit me over the
head with it.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
And what did you do to deserve that?
Speaker 4 (16:52):
And what are the progs cut me in the eye
and cut me in that blood over my face and
then his buddy reached into my mouth and tried to
rip my face.
Speaker 6 (17:00):
What how many shots of Yager bombs did you guys do?
And they sort of like bite my chest and stuff
like that. Bikers did you guys had fight marks all over?
Was it was a mass Man.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
You're tough though. Man, your son plays hockey, so I
know your son's tough. And if you let me tell
you something, man, sons are cut from their dad. We
know I'm a father of a son. Sons are cut
from their dad when a guy plays hockey. I know
you got a tough dad, because you got to be
tough to play hockey.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Yeah, I want to see first my wife had my
kid in the figure skating. I'm like, no, no, no, no, no,
that's not we gotta get a out of the figure
skated in the hockey. Not that there's anything wrong with
figure skating. You'll come on, bro, you know I feel you.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Man.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
We don't have to do the variables.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
Our fans, our fans, our fans know how we get
down in Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
I know what you mean, bro, So that there's anything
wrong with that, right?
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Bertie Frowdleg go to Jordan said about twenty past the hour,
go live to Vegas. Start talking about what we could
expect is the seasons just right around the corner, you know,
just three preseason games.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
I don't want to sound like an old man.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
What would you do with yourself if you had to
go through six preseason games like I had to do
back in the day, fourteen game season, six preseason games.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Think about that for a second.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
I mean, look, I used to go to what as
a kid, I used to say, the Rams used to
play the Dallas Cowboys the La Times game every year
and if you have like a coupon from the newspaper
and like two cans of pepsi or something like that,
you got into the game. And that's like the one
game because we couldn't really afford to go. That was
like the one game we did every year. But six
(18:34):
preseason games. That's crazy, you know what I mean, That's
that's terrible.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
Yeah, But you know, O g Man, So I mean,
at least you could tell that story. I come from
the era of I come buy. I was born in
seventy seven, so I come from the era of fifteen
to fifteen to sixteen games and four preseason games. So
now that is three. Now think about where we are now, Arnie.
We're at the spot now where some starters they're not
going to play any preseason games. I don't think any
(18:57):
Dolphin real starters, especially offense, are gonna play any preseason Yah.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
Homes is gonna play two series this week tomorrow. But
that's that's because his coach is Andy Reed. Andy Reid
has always done that. The one thing like Miami for instances.
We're both Dolphin fans, and I know Jason is a
big Jet fan, so I know they're there. Pis hitting
about all the Dolphin stuff. We're talking to night. That's cool,
But dude, to be honest with you, I wouldn't play them.
I wouldn't play two in the preseason. No I.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
But even not even like one series.
Speaker 5 (19:26):
No, no, no, no, no, no, dude. You got listen.
You have seventeen games the game. It's not getting hit
in practice.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
You know that's fine. That's fine, that's fine because of
his because of his history. I'm cool with that. Because
of his history.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
So you did so you want him to take a
bump in a preseason game and get it concussion to
be out six weeks.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
No, but you, I'm just speaking of you around say that.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
But but you know, if we're gonna start doing that
game VJA, if you're gonna start telling me that it
could happen on just one hit in.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
The preseason, then I'm due for failure.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
If we're gonna start walking on eggshells every time this
guy is gonna get hit, then there's gonna be a
problem this year. You can't be, you know, treating him
like he's in bubble rap. He's a quarterback in the NFL.
You are going to get hit a little bit now,
Todd Brady Gorton later on his career, most of his
career how to get rid of the ball quickly and
toua will earn that.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
But he's still gonna get hit. You understand that, right,
I do. I completely understand him.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
But I much rather him get hit between Week one
and seventeen then get hit in a preseason game with
a second, a second or third string lineman.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
We're checking out now.
Speaker 5 (20:26):
Arm stands out now, right, So you're gonna be even
playing even deeper offensive lineman in these preseason games against
the fifth round draft pick or the undrafted rookie on
the end that's trying to make that other squad's team,
so he don't give a damn about your line and
how bad it is. And if that's tool back there,
he come in to get a spot and get a
paycheck every Tuesday like the rest of the NFL players do.
So that that's the way my mind looks at things
(20:48):
and goes at it like, yeah, you could get him
in for a serious dude, just wait until the regular season.
If him waddle tique the Backs, if they don't know
what they're doing by now, then we got problem.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
But by the way, just because we're on the subject
of you know, offensive lib and what happens if the
Jets get to Bactiori from Green Bay, is that gordon
to happen?
Speaker 5 (21:08):
That my my goodness, that that's really gonna make me sick,
you know, and listen, I'm much rather our division, I'll
be honest with you, man. I hope the Bills, the Jets,
and the Patriots tie all seventeen games.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
I don't even want them to win.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
I hope they tie every day because that was like, damn,
we didn't win, but we didn't lose, Like, yeah, y'all
really suck because y'all just stuck in the middle.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
You don't know what you are. You're oh and seventeen.
That's what I wish would happen. It was quickly becoming
one of the toughest divisions in football.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
Yes, that's where I'm going. I hope though, honestly, I
hope this thing comes down to the last two weeks.
I hope all four of these teams, even someone that's
sitting at seven wins, but they're gonna play a division
rifle that within the last two weeks, so they can
mess it up for somebody else. That's gonna help it
for somebody. I need that in the AFC East. It
doesn't matter to me what everybody else finishes at. I
just want the Dolphins to win the division. I don't
(21:58):
care if we go twelve and five and the Bills
go eleven and six. It doesn't mean twelve is more
than eleven. So I'll take that. And it was a
push all year long that prepares you for the playoffs.
I think kind of when you cake walk through your
division and teams are bad and you could kind of
relax the last four or five weeks, I've just othered
than the Patriots in the past. That kind of in
my opinion, man, that can do a team in I've
(22:18):
seen it too many times. You get to relax and
now you got to go to the playoffs, and now
you got to ramp it back up. You can't just
cut it off and cut it on.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
This is the first time in a couple of years
like the Bills are not like the overwhelming favorite in
that division. Yeah, I mean they are the favorite, but
I know a lot of people picking the Dolphins and
certainly a lot of people jumping out of the Judge
Span wagon as a little bit of a long shot
to win that division of VJ yep.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
And when you have Bill Belichick, and listen, I'm not
going to doubt Bill. When you got Bill Belichick. First
of all, that defense is good. That defense is very good.
Their defensive backfilld might be one of the top three
defensive backfields in all of football. So they're gonna be
in every game. They didn't get hand they didn't get
their ass handed to them. Week after week last year.
They were in every game and beat some teams that
they probably shouldn't be but also lost to some teams.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
They shouldn't have lost too.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
But you cut a Patriot game on, it's nine to
three in the third quarter, it's ten, it's ten, seven,
ten six. It's gonna be a defensive struggle. You're not
gonna blow Belichick's defenses off the field. I think Matt
Jones is trash. I don't think he's a good NFL quarterback.
Are gonna be a good NFL quarterbacks? And there's the problem.
Your best receiver is one of our old guys. Your
best tight end is one of our old guys. So
(23:23):
you got recycled guys and you just signed z they
like have fun. But I think they have a great
offensive line and they have a really good defense in
New England. So they're still gonna win seven games in
my opions, seven eight games.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
You want to tweet us big vanilla funny of it's
thinking genius one.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
All right, I'll tell you what I want to do here.
Speaker 4 (23:38):
I want to get to some of the intriguing names
at quarterback, and there's a lot, especially a lot of
young quarterbacks this year. I want to get your take
on what kind of you you think they're gonna have.
And I want to start with Brog Purdy First of all,
he is gonna be the starter. I mean, I'm nothing
earth shattering here, right, he's gonna I assume he's gonna
go ahead and be the starter. Look, I know what
a run he had last year, and that's truly remarkable
(24:01):
when you could be the last picking what the NFL
draft and do what he did.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
Yeah, it came out of nowhere. Or maybe we're just
a good at judging quarterbacks. I don't know what it is.
But doesn't it catch up to him? I mean, sure
you can't keep witting it at that pace. But is
he that good?
Speaker 4 (24:18):
I mean, did we all just missed the boat on
this one? He's really that good? As like everybody missed the.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Boat on Tom Brady? What are you thinking about brock
Purty this year?
Speaker 5 (24:26):
Nobody misses the boat on the last NFL draft pick.
Tom Brady was picked one ninety nine week. Get that,
But that's an anomaly. It hasn't happened a lot, and
Tom Brady is the is the exception to the rule.
What I think happens with Brock Party I think he's
either injured or he's benched by week ten. Yeah, I
now remember I watch a ton of college football well,
(24:47):
I mean you may not have a choice. And let
me explain when the NFL. The one thing I love
about the NFL is you can have these little runs.
But in the offseason, all defensive coordinators and defensive coaches
do watch film. They watch film, they learn your tendencies,
they watch it, they get film on you. Then no
one had tape on them. So of course, and it
(25:08):
fits with the Shanahan system because it pushes more than
narrative that it's a quarterback friendly offense. It's a well,
no nobody had tape on it wasn't that quarterback friendly
Because even though Garoppolo and I defended the Garoppolo did
get you to a super Bowl. When if you had
to replace Garoppolo from him tearing his knee up from
running out of bounds and not even being hit, your
team went down the toilet. So let's not act like
(25:28):
that didn't happen. But when I look at brock Perdy,
I look at a guy. There's a reason why you
were drafted at LA. I watched you at Iowa State.
I know exactly who you are. But now the teams
have tape on you. Pete Carroll's defense twice you have
Arizona's defense twice, but he still earned to But he's still.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
Earned the right to be the star.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
Went the reason I know, and I mean, that's why,
and see, that's why I can't emphatically say no. But
it's almost by default because Trey Lance got hurt last year.
So if Trey Lance doesn't get hurt, harle Now, I
don't think I don't think he looks horrible. I don't
think he looks horrible. I saw ten, I saw eleven
to fifteen one point forty four four touch. He was
sacked four times. I watched the game twice. I went
(26:09):
back and watched the game because he was getting killed
on television. He was getting killed on the talk show.
So I said, okay, let me go back and watch
like two nights ago, like two in the morning, So
let me go back my dv on. Let me just
watch and see if I didn't if I missed something.
There were two sacks that were his fault, but.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
There were also two sacks was miss It should have
been intercepted, right, well, it should have been intercepted, but
should have could have would have?
Speaker 5 (26:29):
I mean, if I mean if it was an eighth,
we all be high, right, so at the end of
the day, I don't do the fans and the contractions,
you know what I'm saying. I'm not worried about those.
But you spent so much on Lance. That's the problem.
You spent so much on Lance. There wasn't a lot
of tape on him. He didn't play a lot of
college football. He's only got eight he played games. I
think he's played eight games and has four starts. You
(26:50):
cannot give up on a number three overall pick this
soon with four starts under his belt.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
You you just can't do that. And they know they can't.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
They gave hup too much for him, Arnie, So you
can't get anything for him right now? It was third
fourth round.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
I don't think. I don't.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
I was about to say, I don't think you get
a third round pick, would you? Okay, a GM, Arnie Spanier,
You're giving a third round pick for Trey Lance right now.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
The only difference is I'm getting him at what real
cheap we're talking about.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
I'm not I'm not giving up a third round for
him right now. No, I'm not.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
But that's the only one appealing thing to me right now,
is that? And plus, if I want to resign them.
It's not going to cost the Kings ransom. But you're right,
I don't want to give up a third round. But no,
those those are two of the pluses right now for you.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
J Yeah, not only that.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
If you look at Vegas, has San Francisco said it
ten and a half wins at a minus round fifty
five and a plus one twenty five. I think San
Francisco slips back a little bit this year because of
the quarter of division.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
It's too easy, though.
Speaker 5 (27:45):
Seattle wins the division. Seattle wins that division.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Pete Carroll and I've dumped on them Zords not walking
through that door, I know, but they have.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
They got Jeno Smith, they got two running backs.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
Now, that kid, Zach Sharbonne I called his high school
games for Oakes Christian and Westlake out here in California
when him and Kaevon Thibodau was on that same team.
Kaveon Thibodeau, no more ring player that year in high school,
went off to Oregon. Now the demand on the defensive
line for the New York Giants. Zarburnek go to Michigan,
transfers back to UCLA. They pick him up. That was
after drafting Walker out of Michigan State last year. So
(28:18):
they have two horses at the running back position. They
have two thousand yard receivers. Both those guys went over
thousand yards last year, both of their receivers. That defense,
Pete Carroll's done it again. Fifth round, fourth round, sixth round,
undrafted guy. Look at these Look at these defendercies. This
defense he's putting together again right now, I think they're
prime for twelve wins. They're gonna win that division.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Yeah, but everybody's getting four wins against Arizona and the
Rams right those teams are just.
Speaker 5 (28:41):
I'm gonna be honest with you, man, I'm still trying
to figure the Rams out.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
I really am.
Speaker 5 (28:45):
I just I don't know where to go because I
think McVeigh was mentally out. I know Aaron Donald did
an interview where Aaron Donald said himself he was retired
mentally and then started kind of getting pulled on to
come back and play. Started missing it, and you, og man,
you know one of the like cardinal rules of sports,
when you start talking verbally about retirement, what are you, arnie,
(29:06):
You're retired? Yeah, once you start talking about it. So
he came back last year then kind of had the injuries.
They were like, okay, take it out for you. I
were to retire last year if I was him, I
just don't know quarterback position, right. I mean Stafford got
you to ring, but he's now a year older. He
was hurt last year. Is McVay really you know, engaged?
I have no idea where to go with the rams man,
(29:26):
so they could they could be fighting for Caleb. That's
right across the once in in the one oh five
Big Down figure role playing for USC.
Speaker 4 (29:34):

Speaker 5 (31:17):
Right now, we are setting up Vanilla Funny Volume two,
which will be a comedy special that I will have
shot and three camera shooting.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
Event at the ice House. It looks like it's gonna
be in October.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
I would love it to have been for my birthday,
which is September twenty second, which falls in on a
Friday night, so it would have been dope. But God's
telling me there be more patient with it later in
the fall. So that's next big thing I got coming up. Man,
plus planning to shoot. I wrote a short film about
two years ago, and I'm trying to put it together
now with some other you know, some other film independent
film people and stuff. I know they're the big striking
(31:52):
stuff's going on, but we're not that important, so we
can still get out and.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
Shoot our stuff. So film.
Speaker 5 (31:57):
I feel real powerful about Man that I wrote from
top to bottom by myself.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
It's a short film.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
It's only about thirty five minutes, but it's about visual
prejudice and the way we moved through America and we
use our eyes before we use our brain.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
Wow. I threw an idea by you that you liked.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
We I know, yeah, I've not done anything about it yet,
but you like that one, so we got to do
something about that one.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
Also, Yes, absolutely, Man.
Speaker 5 (32:22):
Anytime somebody comes up with comedy or something funny to do,
it's like, let's just do it. Man, It's as long
as you're doing it and you're happy about it, you know.
Just people are gonna like it, people aren't gonna like it.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
Who cares? I didn't. I gotta tell you know again,
I always say this.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
I wish I would have taken more advantage of some
of the TV situations when I was out in Los Angeles.
But many years ago, I get a call and it
was the producers from the Maury Povid show. Oh, Maury, Yeah,
and Maury had an emergency and they still had to
film the shows that they couldn't take the three days off,
(32:56):
and they came up with five names that would fill
in for Maury, and I was one of them, and
they wanted to know if I was interested. I'm like, oh, yes,
you are not the father. Oh yeah, you gotta pick me.
I go, oh yeah, I'm totally I'm all in. I
get a call back that afternoon. I'm one of two
people now down to the selection. Are you They want
(33:19):
to know, are you all in? If we pick you,
we gotta fly you out to New York. Blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
I'm all in.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
I'm practicing. You are not the father, That's all they
called me back. They gave it to the producer, who
she did a good job for. She filled in for May.
But that's like one of my regrets that I didn't
get that one. Man.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
I wanted that one bad Man VJ. That would have
been my calling. I would have loved that one. You know,
I'm telling you, man, Yeah, I feel you.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
I when I first moved out here eighteen years ago,
I was all gung ho about film and being an
actor and being a star and all this other stuff.
And I started out getting extra work. I was an
extra Pirates of the Caribbean two. I did extra work
in Spider Man three, which some of the big films.
And I almost a part in Boston Legal, which was
an old yeah, which was an old TV show William Shattner.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
That was my first year, I know that.
Speaker 5 (34:05):
Yeah, that was my first audition. I got all the
way to the third audition of that. But then, you know,
as his life happens, man, and you started doing other things,
and I started doing more stand up and then sports
talk opened up for me, and I was calling high
school football games for Fox Sports West and calling these
big time Bosco and Modern Day and you know, Bryce
Young DJ whung galle like calling big time name kids.
(34:26):
I kind of just fell into that.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
Me.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
Yeah, I got I got pulled into that just on
a humbug quick story. A friend of mine calls me
one night. He goes, it's a Thursday night. He goes,
do you want to call a high school football game tomorrow?
And it's like nine thirty at night, and I've never
called the game before, but I watch enough sports and
this is what I do, and this is what I've
always wanted to do. I text them right back when
and where. That's all I text back winning where.
Speaker 4 (34:47):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
He tells me, gives me. The school is Oakes Christian
I mentioned earlier in the show.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
Zach Sharbon is the running back Kevon Thibodeau, who was
the number one rank kid in high school that year.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
He's the defensive then. So that was my first experience,
and I remember driving to the game. He called me.
Speaker 5 (35:04):
He goes, are you there? Yes, to not be there
in about ten minutes. He goes, uh, you want some advice?
I said sure, He goes, just call what you see.
He goes, I've done shows with you, I've done radio
with you. You noticed stuff. This is why I'm sorry,
it's last minute.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
They paid me.
Speaker 5 (35:15):
I think like seventy five bucks. He's like, I know,
it's last minute. I'll cash app you. I'll cash app
you the payment. But I thought you would be great
for this man. I thought of something. You'd be good
and I just fell in love with it. It's still
in money, Bernie.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
You're gonna pay me to go up at the booth
and put a headside on and and and just talk
about the game I'm watching.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
You're gonna pay me to do that. Oh, sign me up.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
You know, being in radio is like the al that
it's better to be lucky than good. Yeah, you have
to be good and lucky. And you know the same
way with me.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
I was.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
I was very lucky. See this was before there was
ESPN Radio and Fox Radio and all that. There was
dreaming all this stuff all before that.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
There was this one network out in Las Vegas. And
I was listening to the guy in my house in
Los Angeles. And you know, look, I hate to throw,
you know, disparaging remarks, but he was awful, but I was,
but I was listening. You know, my dad and I
would listen to the radio. I spend a lot of
time with him back then, and it was and it
was just wasn't very good. But we were listening to
(36:13):
him and I said, you know, I'm going to give
the boss a call over there, that's if he needs anybody.
And I call over to the network and he's like,
who are you? Have you ever done a show? Like, no,
I never done a show. He goes go to Arkansas
and then go to Milwaukee and then go here the
market stuff. Yeah, he goes, call me in five years.
Come on, he goes. You know what, He goes, I
(36:35):
have your number. If anything comes up, I'll give you
a call. And that was pretty much it. So, you know,
the summer goes around, I don't hear back from anything,
you know, the you know, Thanksgiving comes around, I don't
hear back anything. And all of a sudden, I just
get a call out of the blue from the same
guy and he goes, hey, you're still looking to do
a show.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
I said, oh yeah, yeah, of course. He goes, I got.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Christmas even Christmas for you. New Year's Eve in New
Year's yeah, midnight to six. Yeah, you want to drive
out here to Vegas. We'll put you up in one
of those crappy hotels and and you could do the shows.
I didn't even know what I was doing. I didn't
even bring headphones with me. Wow, I didn't know how
to punch up callers. The guy who told me I
(37:17):
could do the show never introduced himself, never came to
say hello to me. Yeah, I did the four shows.
But that that started out. So it's again, it's better
to be gou even good, you know what I mean,
gonna fall it to it.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
Well, it's being blessed.
Speaker 5 (37:30):
It's also being at the right place at the right time,
and when opportunity comes knocking, open that door, open the
damn door. And then, like one of my favorite saying
about life is I stay ready, so I don't have
to get ready. Anybody could call this network could call
me at four point thirty and say, can you be
down there by five?
Speaker 3 (37:46):
Yeah, I live fifteen minutes up the street. Yep, I'm on.
Speaker 5 (37:48):
I'm ready. Just give me the rundown. I've been watching
sports all day. It's like, I mean, it's all I do.
So when I look at the rundown, Okay, I'm ready.
I'm ready to rock and roll. Speaking of like starting slow,
I was trying to get at another big network. I'll
say the mouse. Everybody knows what a mouse was. And
I had a meeting with a guy one day and
we sat down in the conference room and he goes, look,
I can't hire you, and I can't just give you
a show. Look, I'm thinking I'm going to go in
there and convince this guy to give me your radio show.
(38:10):
He's like, listen, I can't give you a show and off,
but I've listened to your podcast online. I listened to
a few minutes. You're good, He goes, but you're a
little edgy, and it's probably gonna take you a little
longer because I didn't have the shiny degree from the
mass communications department at the big time you know, yeah, yeah,
sarahcuse you know Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Michigan State, those squad I didn't.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
I didn't have that.
Speaker 5 (38:29):
He goes, but I want you to go down and
talk to this guy. And it was a local network
in Connecticut called Nutmeg TV, which is their focus exact
and most people haven't. And I'm glad because that's why
I started. I took their producers class. I paid thirty
five dollars to take this producers class.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
And then let me create.
Speaker 5 (38:45):
Vj's Unsportsmanlike Conduct was a local access TV show that
came on Thursday nights at nine o'clock for an hour.
Within four weeks, I was their number one rated show
on their network, which I yeah, yeah, in the town
of three hundred and fifty thousand people. But I'm proud
of that because that's where I started.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
Well, there you go.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
So a little advice to the young people out there
with opportunity knocks. Yep, you open that door and sometimes
it doesn't knock for a while. Maybe it doesn't knock
when you're twenty or twenty five or thirty or thirty five.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
But keep at it all right, just say yes, just
say yes. Don't just say yes, don't think, just say yes.
Just figure it from there exactly. Just go do it
all right.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
We were looking at some quarterbacks that we're talking about
what kind of years are going to have. Yeah, you know,
here's a team that some people thought were going to
be at the bottom of the division. Some people still
think they're going to be at the bottom of the division,
and they're gonna be probably one of the worst teams
in the NFL. Yet again, they have a quarterback who
is so dynamic, and I'm talking about Justin Fields, who
last preseason game went through five yards downfield for one
(39:44):
hundred and fifty yards. This guy is I mean, he
is a great runner. Also, I love this guy. The
more he plays, the more I just like him being dynamic.
But I'm not so sure the Bears are really cut out.
They're better defensively, that's for damn sure. What do you
think Justin Fields is gonna do this year? What are
(40:05):
you looking at him?
Speaker 5 (40:06):
I actually have some Justin Fhild's stuff in my one seventeen.
I think Justin Field is gonna be another thousand yard rusher.
He'll become the second quarterback to do it in back
to back years. Lamar Jackson did it in nineteen and
twenty and he's averaging six ' eight per carry in
seven point one last year. They had the number one
rushing team in the league last year, and I think
people are missing the boat on that also, so they
(40:28):
can run the football, it's in their scheme. I know
they switched some running backs around in and out of there,
but when you get a receiver like Dj Moore.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
Right, you have touched out exactly the first catch the
guy preseason.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
But still doesn't matter.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
Man.
Speaker 5 (40:43):
A guy that can go get sometimes, like am I saying,
is sometimes, Man, when a quarterback breaks the huddle and
he's overlooking the defense and he's licking his fingers and
he's looking around, he's got to be able to look
left for right and see what I call a dude,
A dude out there that could just go get you
a third and fourteen a second in nineteen. You know
(41:05):
what I'm saying, could just go I'm gonna put the
ball in about a five yard circumference, okay, in a
square five yard box. I need you to either go low,
go left, go right, or leap up and just we
need you to get this one for me right now,
big dog. This is what you get paid the big
This is why you got the new contract. You need
that kind of guy. Every quarterback needs that kind of guy,
unless you're Tom Brady. Right, he's the only got to
have to do it without it. Even though when he
(41:27):
had Randy Moss, he all he did was went out
through fifty touchdown passes. Twenty five of them went the
Randy Moss right, So you get Randy Moss. That's what
happens when you're that great. But Justin Phils has a guy.
Speaker 4 (41:36):
He's got a dude that he gives a good team though,
right ah, because you got in Minnesota. Detroit's supposed to
be the sexy pick right now and always sleeping on
Green Bay.
Speaker 3 (41:47):
That as a pretty even division right now. If yeah,
I think Minnesota wins the division. I'm not buying Detroit
like most people are.
Speaker 5 (41:54):
And that's simply because I call it the Kansas City
Royal syndrome. Please forgive me all the fans in Kansas City,
and they do. They did get the one World Series,
but for most of my life are the Cleveland Brown Syndrome.
For most of my sports life, I've never seen them
win nothing. So why would I pick them to do it?
They have to do it for me first before I'll say, okay,
(42:17):
I think Detroit's a nice nine win team. Possibly, I
think Vegas has gotta make eight and a half For
nine and a half. I believe eight and a half,
So they think nine wins. That tells me Minnesota's gonna
win that division. Chicago and Green Bay is gonna come
down to two things. Justin fields Jordan Love simple as
simple as that, which quarterback plays better will be the
better football team. I'll put my money on just On
(42:38):
Justin Fields playing much better, also really quick on Justin Filds.
People forget coming out of high school guys. Justin Fields.
We love Trevor Lawrence. They were one A and one
by what they do in high school grading. Now I'm
not sure if you notice Brady, but they get number
one rated dual threat and then number one rated pocket passer,
So it gives you two number one rated high school quarterbacks.
That was him and Trevor Lawrence. All Trevor Lawrence did
(43:01):
was beat him to the punch and signing with Climpson.
Clinton wanted him too. Goes to Georgia, didn't work out,
Georgia transfers to Ohio State and it takes them to
the playoff.
Speaker 4 (43:09):
He's been good for a very long time. Justin Field has,
and I think that continues. I like them at about
eight or nine. I like them at about seven to
nine wins.
Speaker 5 (43:18):
Can I think running the football and defense means still
something today in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (43:22):
You know, when I was filling the last Saturday with
Jason Martin, we were doing Boom or Busts and every
dame we came up with, We're like I don't know
if I want to put him as a boob. I
don't know if I want to put him as a
bust right down in the middle, one of those guys
the name you just mentioned, Jordan Love. You know, I
don't think he's gonna go ahead and jump up as
like one of the top ten quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
Though.
Speaker 4 (43:39):
I don't think he's going to be a complete failure
like some people think he's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
They might not miss a beat with him all that much.
Speaker 4 (43:48):
I mean, what was Aaron Rodgers' record his last year
with Green Bay with the eight and nine?
Speaker 5 (43:54):
Yeah, well his first year starting they were six and ten,
so he didn't come out as game busters.
Speaker 4 (43:58):
No, but I'll just go by the eight nine record because,
let's face it, Jordan Loves been on the team for
a while, so we had a chance to lord so
is so Is uh, you know, obviously Rogers. I mean,
they could be a win team, nine win team, maybe
even a ten win team. I think he has a
pretty decent to good year, But I don't think he's
gonna be uh just a complete bust out there, you know.
Speaker 5 (44:20):
I don't think it'd be a complete bus Listen, And
this is what I love about football. We we know
there's someone going to in fifteen, right, we know someone's
going three and fourteen. It's just gonna depend on who
it is. The Raiders and Happy, I mean, but you
know what it could be. Or honestly, the Raiders if
they get their act together, get their running back in
the building.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
Garoppolo serviceable, He's a he can get you seven. Get
he could get you seven.
Speaker 4 (44:44):
No. No, But get back to Jordan Love, though, get back.
But with Jordan Love, you know, I like, I say,
he's been there.
Speaker 5 (44:51):
I'm pulling for him because the guy I think the
I think if you're you're backing up Aaron Rodgers that long, damnit,
you better learn something.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
You gotta have something in you or what were you doing?
Speaker 2 (45:01):
Right?
Speaker 5 (45:01):
So I do think the Packers could probably finish last
in that division, just because I think Minnesota is still
so good. I do like what the Lions are doing,
and I'll take Justin Fields over Jordan Love if it
comes down to those two quarterbacks determining who's gonna have
the better season between the Packers and the Bears.
Speaker 3 (45:20):
