Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Donuts are on the way. After mentioning Kyle Barrotclaw and
the horrendous outing he had tonight where Alex Gora just decided, Nope,
you're staying until he hate you and everything you stand for,
keep going. Yeah, you know you hear barrack Claw. You
think m bear Claw. So you and I decided we're
getting krispy Kreme for everybody. Yeah, it's on the way. Yeah,
krispy Kreme's on the way. I have no idea how
delivery you have to back. Yes, they don't get off

(00:48):
bear Claus though, no, but it'll be close enough. We'll
see what comes in. Yeah, and they do have a
fritter on file, which is if you can, like, if
you confuse two fritters together, that could potentially look like
a bear, Clay go nice. But there you go, there's
your win. I mean it'll make you forget about the Mets.
Well hey, uh speaking of yeah, you know you want

(01:09):
to make you forget about Mets real fast before we
get to this game. After this horrendous heartbreaker lost tonight,
Max Schurz are welcome back to City field of the Rangers.
They boo them when they show his video montage that
cheering him. Yeah, it was great, it was great. I
love you. Mets. Winning three to nothing in the seventh,
they give up one in the seventh, one in the eighth,

(01:31):
and with two outs and the bases loaded, a two
run single in the ninth, they lose to the Rangers
four to three. Edwin Diaz hopeful to return this season
for the Mets following his first outdoor bullpen session after
knee surgery. Remember getting hurt celebrating and winning the World
Baseball Classic. Diaz wants to pitch before the end of

(01:53):
the season. Odds, I'm gonna say seventy percent. I get
to here, Timmy l Trumpet at least one before the
season ends. I'll just give me one. You got to
do something nice for the fans. Got there out here
once dunda du dun dun dun dund dundun dun dun
dun du. I mean that that makes me happy that

(02:16):
he's got to do something to earn the checks. And
it makes ideas didn't make it out of the World
Baseball Classic, and in the some folks also wondering about
the World Baseball Classic, and it's ill effects perhaps on show.
Hey o Tani, Yeah, we're gonna get this. We haven't
played this once all year. It's so sad. This is
so sad. It's a reminder of the year that was

(02:37):
supposed to be a year in the life of a
young Jason Smith. Here's all of hope, here's the anxiousness
of what will happen for me. This is what the
Mets should do. The Mets should give all their relievers
Edwin Diaz jerseys, so whenever one of them comes into
the game, because you know they're going through like five
six relievers a night, they all come in wearing Diaz's jersey,

(02:59):
and you play the song every single time reliever comes in,
even if he's coming out of the game after one, two,
eight runs, nine hits. The next reliever comes in, dz jersey,
I just can. At least it'll make everybody of the
ballpark happy. You just get you know we're gonna lose,
We're down ten two, doesn't matter, but let everybody on

(03:19):
your feet again. And meanwhile, it's not it's Adam Otavino,
but he's wearing Edwin Diaz's jurk. Doesn't matter as the
trumpets there, it's all good. Everybody comes in, everybody comes in.
And then when Alonzo batch to goodbye are here, they're
training you pepe uh a game. Do you feel about that?
What do you think about You've been talking about that
for about two months, you and I and Frosburg behind

(03:41):
the scenes, but now that it's gaining a bit of momentum,
how do you feel about that? If the Mets trade
ped Alonzo, I will be less upset than I would
have if it was the Willpon's running the Mets, because
I know Steve Cohen's just gonna buy whatever I need
to replace p Alando, Okay, And there's no good reason
to trade him other than he wants, you know, John
Palmerrosi told us, hey, listen, potentially they're not close and

(04:06):
the money he's going to ask for the Mets are
going to say uh uh right, or he just wants
to go and he doesn't want to be and he
doesn't want to be. I can't believe that, though, because
he seems to love New York and the pressure and
thriving there. But Bob Nightingale had to report this weekend
that Pete Alonso's expecting to get traded next season. If
they're not going to side it, if it's too much money,
if it's not lining up, yeah we'll just go buy somebody.

(04:27):
I think Cohen is is now going through a little
bit of Boy I went out and bought all this,
and now I'm seeing a little bit of the remorse
because it's going to affect my team. I had to
make out these big checks for Verlander and Suzer who
aren't playing on the team, and it's one thing to
buy out at Wardo Escobar and say, yeah, it's ten
million dollars, what do I care? But you're talking about,
you know, sixty million dollars rent justin verl So I

(04:49):
think right now he's going through a little bit of
sticker shock and the Alonzo thing. I'm hoping it doesn't
turn into a Mookie Bet situation because that was the
perfect storm for him to be traded from the Red
Socks in twenty twenty. They wanted to cut salary and
John Henry thought, we're not gonna sign him again. I
don't know that that trade happens again at any other time.
Oh you don't want to give him three hundred million dollars, No, dude,
you give MOOKI bets three hundre million dollars. Yeah, so

(05:11):
that's that was only gonna happen. Then I'm wondering if
that's gonna be this perfect storm. Hey, if Alonzo wants
four hundred million dollars, we're not gonna give it to him. Well,
Cohen was acting like it was the first time he'd
ever had money to spend, right, no matter how Richie
has been for a long long time, suddenly had money.
I keep seeing the meme and it's got nothing to
do with Cohen or the Mets, but it's the ed Helms.

(05:32):
Oh I bought at Orca. Yeah yeah, yeah, sure, that's
kind of Steve Cohen. He's like, I bought something really cool.
I put in a giant shark tank right to go
back to Cribs' essentially what Cohen did, I'm gonna buy
these guys. You remember him? You know if you love them.
They're not worth forty million dollars anymore, but I had
to have them this offseason. Please welcome in if you will.

(05:56):
Oh wait, how much to cost to maintain the tank?
WHOA really? I gotta I gotta sell this shark on eBay.
I gotta sell release three times a week. I gotta
glean that thing. How many pounds of meat he needs?
I'm not doing it tonight. Shoe brought to you by

waiting all day to talk about the game of the weekend.
Oh you want to know how it ended? It ended
like this challenge? He doesn't. Again, you're a little world

(06:43):
serious chess. Hold on, hold on, I'm a Carl Rabbits
on ESPN with a call. And first of all, I
gotta say the best job of jinxing Curasaw you could
possibly have. Right before that pitch, he says, Curius, I
was giving up a home run the entire tournament. First pitch,

(07:06):
Lewis Lappie ding home run. Well, Elsa Gundo wins. But
a guy who's been turning on fastballs all tournament long,
exactly now he's six one, he's twelve years old, six one,
he had five home runs. I just saw a Law
and Order episode about stuff like that. What's interesting is
I did get and thing sent to me. You know,
all the you know, spoof websites that are out there

(07:26):
from of all people, my ex wife, the mb SO,
Manhattan Beach, tune melt breaking, dropping fortune on private coaches,
Manhattan Beach. Parents confused, How el Segundo wins Little League
World Series? Manhattan Beach mom quote but usc Jackson Hole
two's hasslas, how does this happen? And then there's a

(07:47):
picture of a guy perplexed, arms in the air, says, yeah,
this dead figures he may look into hiring show Hey
Otani to coach his son next season, whatever it takes.
So that's where we're at, the spoofing and the battle
of the South Bay little cities. Here. Look now, els
is right here in Los Angeles. You know I've coached,

(08:09):
I've coached so I've coached Westchester here, my little league,
I've coached all stars, with state tournament everything. We play
El Segundo every year. And let me say this before
there's any any misconstruing of this. In softball, we always
beat el beat We do have to no softball, we
beat Elseagunda. We did, we beat us again. I mean

(08:31):
I got one of the greatest researchers at least at
least wherever at my disposal to the teams I was coaching,
at least are we we want we want? In softball,
we beat Elsagunda. But I think you mimber. There's a
lot of players, and it's not that I know them,
but a lot of the families that I've coached over
the last few years, and they go to a lot

(08:52):
of them go to El Segundo High School, and they
know a lot of these kids because they are the
younger siblings of the kids they knew growing up. So
the families that I that of the girls are on
my team, they know the families because they went to school,
knew the older brides. These are all the younger bro
and I go younger brother. There's three kids on the
team that are six to one I mean well and

(09:16):
just hanging out at sprouts. They're hanging out at Galusi's
and they're eating the best meats and purity that you
could possibly have. I'll tell you there. There's two big
things I want to say about Alsagundo winning this because
like a lot everywhere they showed, Hey, here's a big
viewing party I got. I just ate lunch at that
bar at Rock and Bruise and El Segundo last week.
Here's that at the dentist right next door. Sure, that's

(09:39):
a it's a great place at Am five seventy does
all the time. I would worry about your dentist if
they're right next door to a Rock and Bruise with
a bar, going over there and go right back un
before or after they look at your mouth after after, okay,
make sure it's after they've done a fantastic job. Okay,
as far as he's a wonderful human. You're the guy
who had his tooth come out in the middle of
a conversation you and I had. Here was it because

(09:59):
they punched, we were talking, It was cracked and then
it finally went My deadness is the best? Oh? Sorry, Well,
they did a good job. There's my front two my
broken face there. I mean, my hand still is a problem.
I don't think I can really someone too hard with
the right hand. But it's a good thing. I'm a
South Paul like Rocky. Now, there's two big things for else.

(10:22):
A good number one is going through and winning, going
through the loser's bracket to win. And let me tell
you how tough that is to do. Last two years
state tournament, Uh, my team went girls, I coach. We
went to the semi finals last year, lost in the
state championship. This year. This is fourteen you so on
so one level older than the kids who won the
championship this year. And when you have to go through

(10:44):
the loser's bracket, it is almost impossible. You want to
skip along the winner's bracket because you win, you get
a day off. Then you play and you win, you
get a day off, and you're getting to the end
of the tournament where it's hey, we're fresh, we've only
played three games, and we have to lose twice at
the end. When you have to go through the losers bracket,
it is so difficult. Like this year, we won our
first couple of games, then we lost, so we had

(11:06):
to go through the loser's bracket, meaning we had to
win Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and then the champion of
State championship on Saturday. It was like ninety seven degrees
and year than that one hundred and five five in
San Bernardino. So by the time we got to Saturday,
not that it excuse, but playing five games in five
days when you really only have one pitcher is difficult. Well,

(11:27):
and the fact that you made it that far with yeah,
with one amazing, well, well, people don't know that. I
addressed one of the dads up in a wig and
he pitched. He was great, but uh I made sure no,
I made sure he shaved, and I made sure he
was he was he was under under five to seven. No,
So going through the loser's bracket is really difficult. And

(11:47):
they didn't run out of gas, and they were the
better team yesterday all the way through. It's really one
bad pitch right that they had. They give up the
grand Slam that tied the game. Going through the loser's
bracket is tough. But the biggest thing is this, and
I'll i'll tell you is if you watch the game,
you saw some horrendous homeplate umpiring horrendous, and I know
there's a lot of complain. That was everybody's social media.

(12:08):
Oh my god, this umpire is terrible. I wanted to say, yeah,
that's little League, because it is Little League. Umpires are awful,
but there's there's no right. But there's there's no continuity
with strike zones. And you watch some of the some
of some of the pitches yesterday three feet outside strike
it's like, how is that a strike? And a very
a very big key to winning championships when you get

(12:31):
to that level is being able to adjust to the
strike zone is because one pitch flips in that bat.
And if you watch a game yesterday, what is she
from Curisow? If there is a pitch that was way
outside and it should have been ball one and it's
strike one. You saw the Currosow kids step out, look
down at the third base coach and shake his head.
And that happened so many times. Right there, I knew

(12:52):
this kid mentally is not there. And then you'd watch
him chase a pitch because you don't know what the
strike zone is and it's not his fault, but it's like,
come on, man, these are the best of the best
you can call it. You can call it a little tighter.
You don't need to call things that are sweeping curves
that land all the way in the other batter's box
to strike. There were a lot of bad calls for
both teams, but what El Segundo did was they adjusted.

(13:13):
They were mentally stronger in the batter's box because I
didn't see a lot of that. They got a bad call. Okay,
We're right back in there trying to hit. And there
was no looking down at the third because I know
if I was a third base coach, if I was
the coach and I'm seeing the kid looking back at me,
I'm shaking my hands, going just get no, no, no,
get back in there and stay focused. What do what

(13:33):
do you want me to do? I can't come and
argue balls and strikes, right. I know it's crappy. I
know this ump is terrible. But you gotta be strong.
And it's not that you have to change your approach,
you just mentally. You can't just go crazy. I'm swinging
at everything and that's what you saw the Curisu kids do.
But inside I'm swinging. Boy, that was that was on
the ground. But I'm swinging because I think that ball
is there and and the adjustments El segundo to stay

(13:54):
true to what they did while curros out kind of
got all over the place. That's why they won because
you watch you watch the finally hits. They had to
get that five to one lead, and that was all
through the first three and four innings. That was a
phenomenal job by those kids.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
I mean, look, when we get to the idea of refereeing,
umpiring and all that, it's so imperfect, so inconsistent at
every level. Right, you coach soccer, You've watched your daughter
play soccer for a long time. There's one call. As
much as folks who want to say, hey, one call
doesn't decide a game, oh can oh sure, Oh he can't.
It's a penalty and now we lose what We've been

(14:26):
beating the hell out of each other for eighty minutes
and now you're gonna call that a penalty and award
a penalty. Kid. Yeah, right, I mean we see it
all the time. But you know in Major League Baseball,
you had Hoburg in the twenty two World Series, had
what they called a perfect game behind the plate, And
it's such a rare thing. It's like, does he win
a cash prize? Yeah? Yeah, right, because there's nothing on

(14:49):
video review and the fox box or anything that's gonna
disprove it or have in dispute. So yeah, I mean
it's a pretty big deal. And one pitch can rattle you.
I mean sides right. As a pitcher, you don't get
a call that you think is there. Maybe you're not
on the outer part of the plate and maybe there's
one that gets grooved where otherwise you might have been
nibbling if you're ahead of the count. We see it

(15:11):
all the time all throughout the ranks, and for this
Little League World Series, that's exactly what happened. I love
the shot. For me though, still comes down to, is
every international event, how great the Japanese players, coaches, fans
are to the people if they've won, if they've lost,

(15:31):
oh yeah right, the Japanese reaching through the fence to
love to both teams and just congratulate them on what
they did. Like that is always whenever we get jaded
and cynical, because let's face it, I'm a near fifty
year old guy from Chicago, you're from New York. Cynicism
kind of runs with what we do. No, I get
you're Richie, Yeah, no, you're right right, Robbie. You tech

(15:56):
me go so the But when you see stuff like that,
for a moment, you pause, go all right. Some kids
still get it, some families still get it. There's still
some disability in this world. And then they go fight
in the parking lot everybody else that showed up because
they need to get out of the lot first. So look,
one little moment, but a huge win for elseigindo the
local kids here in southern California. Twitter at, how about

(16:19):
a fresca? Mike gets swollen down the Jason Smith Show

barrel of NFL story is coming your way. We break
down the big trade of the weekend end. Now I
know officially who the next quarterback should be on Netflix's
Quarterback snaxt. Right here, this is Fox.

the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio

Speaker 1 (17:38):
We'll get to the quarterback that should be ticketed for
the next year of Netflix's Quarterback and the Trey Lance trade.
But something happened a few minutes ago in the Braves
game against the Rockies. Now everything is fine and everybody
is fine. Atlanta leads this thirteen to four. Ronald Lacuna

(17:58):
has just doubled in two runs or three runs in
the top of the ninth inning. He is still in
the game after a few minutes ago what looks like
being attacked by three fans who tried to run on
the field to hug him. So it's what we saw
yesterday in the EPL match, Earling Holland scores a goal

(18:20):
and a guy ran out of the stands and actually
celebrated with him before security got there. So I'm wondering
if that now, like people throwing things at performers, becomes
a thing there. The video is weird because there is
only a little bit of We don't have the entire
footage from the beginning because this is something between innings

(18:42):
and the plays, and the play hasn't gone on yet.
But this is what we've seen so far is a
fan runs out onto the field in a white hat
and grabs Acunya and hugs him, and Acunya stays there,
He stands it, doesn't do anything. He stands there and
the fan wanted to hug him. For some reason. The
fan is hugging him, it looks like a security guard

(19:02):
comes out to grab him, and it looks like maybe
it's another security guard, but it's a little hard to tell.
I believe two security guards come out to try to
get this fan away from Ronald Lacunya. While this is happening,
another fan runs on the field again in a white
hat and grabs Acunya to hug him from behind. Now,
nothing violent happens in this This other fan runs on

(19:25):
he wants to hug him, and luckily the other security
guards who are on the scene, because right now there's
three security guards that are on the scene, are able
to intercept him. Just as he gets there, Acunya loses
his balance and he falls over, but they're able to
knock the second guy to the ground, and Acunya sits there,

(19:45):
watches what's going on around, doesn't get up, doesn't run away,
just kind of sits there and looks at the fans
as they both come in and try to tackle him.
It's really weird now seeing it again, because now this
is just getting on social media. It looks like definitively
it is two fans the other one coming in was
a security guard. Two fans come in and run onto
the field and hug Acunya. And now the second one

(20:08):
looks like he was gonna hug him, but he gets grabbed.
He's coming in at a pretty high rate of speed
right just from the angle that we've seen it shot.
And we'll assume the uniform of security guards there are
navy blue short pants or capri pants kind of looking
things as they get out there, but two security guards.

(20:29):
A third man comes in and they've got the first hugger, yeah,
you know, secured. And then you get a little forearm
shiver as the second guy approaches Acunya, like there was
no chance he was getting more than two feet within
that radius there. But Acuna sits on the ground as

(20:51):
you laid it out, he's just looking around like what
the hell's going on? Like what are we doing? And
we had in southern California here and across the nave
and yesterday as part of the four dollar movie Day.
I don't know if you tried to go to a movie,
we couldn't know, noddt. The only movie I could have
gone to see was American Graffiti fiftieth anniversary everything else
was sold out, but there were you know, giant mobs

(21:12):
of kids getting into brawls at malls all across the US.
And then yesterday, as I alluded to, we were in
here in the Fox Sports radio studios. He was doing
my Sunday Morning show with Andy Furman and Bucky Brooks,
and you had this moment where Earling Holland, you know,
because he's a unicorn, he missed a penalty kick and
then he comes back and scores, and a guy runs

(21:33):
onto the pitch and just starts hugging him and he's
looking around and they're like, okay, wait for it, and
finally security gets there, secures the guy. Nothing ill will.
I'd like to think there's no mal intent here as well,
but guys running onto the field, we've seen some pretty
horrible things now the year. Look look at the video.
Does it look like the first guy was trying to

(21:54):
take a selfie. It's kind of looks like a little
bit like maybe he had like he was going to
have a camera there. It looks like maybe, hey, Ronald's, hey,
Ronald's just sit here and take a picture with me.
When you down you freeze frame it. You can see
he's starting to break like he gets his arm around
his neck and he's gonna bring up the camera. I
just I just want to take a picture and then

(22:14):
I'm gonna go back out, just gonna take a picture
with you. Is that okay? Is that cool? I don't
want to go back out. I'm never gonna get a chance,
so I'm gonna take this picture right here or go
out there. Hey, you should really still be the odds
on favorite for MVP. I can't believe Mookie Bets passed
you in the last twenty five. But that's not right,
that's not right.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
Wrong.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
You know, you look seeing this, the first thing you
default to obviously think about the Tim gamboa situation. The
first base coach was attacked by two fans at a
game and they went Tom Gambo who wound and the
both fans was was a father and son who idiots.
He still had permanent hearing loss. I believe from from

(22:49):
the incident. And when you see you see this happen
to run out and not only it's one thing. You
see the second guy come out and it's oh my goodness,
and they were able to get so close to him.
I can't believe a coud you stood his ground. That's
the shocker to me is that he stood there. He
stood there while the fan came to hug him. He
didn't try to push dude get away from me. Man.
He could have protected his personal space, because he would

(23:10):
have had every right to do that. But he stood
there while the fan came to take a picture, staying
a little bit cool under the circumstances. And then after
he gets knocked over, they grabbed the second guy. He
just sits there. He's in the middle of all this.
The fans are being tackling and he's just kind of
sitting there three feet away. Feature were going, you guys good,
you guys good, I mean each fan, Yeah, I kick

(23:33):
it over. He just he just sits there. Do you
just believe? And again we talk about you know, my
talking about my cynicism and my Chicagoism that still is
pervasive in my being. I'm swinging right, I'm shoulder, I'm
road warriors shoulder tackling people and taking him into the ground.
Perhaps he's just a more calm person than I am.

(23:57):
He contact with him and makes the guy hug him.
But that the fan means like in his mind, how
can anybody want to do anything bad to me, Like
when you go to like your aunt's house for Christmas
and and your great aunt hasn't seen you. It's just oh,
and your mom tells you just she's gonna hug you.
Just let her hug you. She's I know, it's gonna

(24:17):
be really uncomfortable. Just let her hug you. And yeah,
and you just kind of stand there and put your
arms next to each other. Okay, hug me and then
fell Okay, finish, finish, okay, okay and Hildegarde, Yes, very spired, alright, expired?
Thank you? Ah, Yes, I love you too, Yes, yes, yes,
I'm in seventh grade now, Yes, everything is going well?
Yes yeah, no, no, no, now the play starts next week. Yes,

(24:37):
I'm very excited about it. Yes, it's good. But you
and I being in Los Angeles, how many times are
you out and about and you see and people want
to hug you? No bless, seedless d list zless celebrities
that people want a piece of, and most of them
will acquiesce and take the photo. But did they look
happy about it?

Speaker 2 (24:56):
No?

Speaker 1 (24:56):
No, no, no, no no no right they telling even
if they're part of whatever they're doing, they don't look thrilled.
They just recognize this is it. But you catch someone
like say at the Grove people across the land. You
can just look up celebrity grove photo and you'll see
the most uncomfortable, miserable looking people that decided, all right,

(25:17):
I'm not going to cause the scene. I'm just gonna
take the photo and they're gonna leave me alone. And
that's kind of a coon. You're here almost like all right,
this will be gone right. He just wants the photo.
Just just stand here and let this happen. And then
the security guards fast. You gotta say, though, like we
reached an age, don't shouldn't? This is like Jay Glazer

(25:38):
always says with referees, let's get some special ops guys
and stuff. Yeah, I shouldn't there be a conditioning thing
you gotta do? I mean, well, look, aren't these guys
supposed to be standing watching the stands to making sure
no one's running in? And they and they see that.
How many how many times should you have? Right? I
mean you gotta be now off the wall, you gotta
be down the baseline, right. How many secure guards when

(26:01):
in this situation their first thought when this happens, they
frat is Oh, that's their first I was looking over
man the mascot was doing something really funny and it
was really I miss that, you know, because you're not
getting that. I mean, look, first step in closing speed,

(26:22):
like two huge things. This is this is part of
the trappings of fame and in sports, athletes generally don't
have to deal with what celebrities and entertainment have to
deal with because for a long time, look, uh you know,
a guy who could be one of your favorite players

(26:43):
on your team, right like uh CJ. Moseley or Sauce
Garden or any of those guys they could be They
could go out to the mall and easily no one
will recognize them because athletes as long as you don't
have the giant thing hanging off that you're not if
you're not wearing your jersey on the back and you
know no. But but athletes can generally go out and
I mean, look, Lebron James can't. But look in Florida, right, well,

(27:07):
look Messi. The guys like Messi who are globally are different.
But guys like who are just big celebrities here in
the United States, like Kyle Kuzma, can go out and
not get and not get not not everybody go, oh
my god, it's Kyle Kuzma. But for celebrities, it's different.
And that's one thing that I used to have this
conversation my wife all the time, is that here in
l A. You said, we see B C D list

(27:28):
celebrities all the time, and we always I always not argue,
but I always say, I don't think they want anybody
to come over and take a picture, like even if
it's somebody that I know their career, Like there was,
for instance, we went to we went to dinner once
and we just went to suit Plantation, right, which was
I missed suit Plantation, you know Rest in Peace, suit
Plantation and the Victims of the Yeah, I know, I

(27:48):
know that's going to again all of the offshoots of that.
And I can't tell you how many cool celebrities we
saw at suit Plantation. Like we saw Alan Arbis, who
was doctor Sidney Freeman mash. I'm like, oh my god,
that's Alan Arki. It's like ninety years old, and like
should we go say hi or take a picture with right,
And then there's this guy al Fan who you probably

(28:09):
would see him and go I remember for a very
specific episode of West Wing and I would we would
go up and say, hey, mister fan, you were mister
Willis from Ohio. You were awesome in that in the episode,
and we argue, do they really want that? And my
wife always says, if it's the working actor, if it's
the working actor who is not a star and does
supporting roles, I think they love that. I think they

(28:30):
really do love that. But if it's a big star,
they don't because there's no privacy. And I said, I'm
with you, but I think times have changed to even
those actors. I don't know if they like it. I
told you last last Christmas, I saw the guy I
saw Sweede Risberg from Eight Men Out and from die
Hard Too Sure, and I wanted to go up and go,
oh my god, Swede. I'd say, you know, Don Harvey Alwa,

(28:50):
say dude, I so enjoyed your career. But I'm like,
is it weird? Were I mean, we were getting Christmas
trees at home deep I'm like, is it weird for
me to save that to him? I don't know, it's
kind of awkward. So I always feel like it's it's
very strange in the trappings of fame, and you think
athletes they don't have to worry about it. But here's
Ronald Cunya who not only gets gets you know, one

(29:10):
fan runs on the fields running. So the second guy
coming in right, because now now we're talking about a
situation where these security guards have already turned their attention
to the first guy. So it's almost like the distract
and now you can get like w W. The first
guy comes out, I'll kick out. The referees are at
this guy that this guy comes and then then he
needs somebody from the locker room and shower shoes. I'm

(29:32):
just running out. Oh my god. And they had that
today the rivalry is born and walked in. It was
Gable and Lootenvig and Kaiser and then all of a
sudden here comes Gunter. Yeah. I mean like you got problem,
I got problems. The internet will coming out. Guy just
happened to be in the locker room and he just
happens to run out. It's amazing. But I mean, this

(29:53):
is this shows you the trappings that this is the
This is like the definition of trappings of faith. And
it looks really scary. But like I said, luckily Acunya
is finding stayed in the game. He had a three
run double in the night, so we must be okay,
And now you're gonna see kunya if you thought he
was good before the fans wait, now look the favorite again.
You're jumping back in there. I'm gonna get you there, Ronald,
gonna get you there. I will say this, Uh. Two

(30:15):
hours ago, Uh, Steve de Sager came out to fill
out his water cup and that was when the uh,
the whole thing with Gunther and and Kayser and Gables.
I think he thinks a lot less of me now
as the how into that I won, I don't think
he thinks any less of you than he did before.
Just wait, just wait on that one for a seconds.

(30:36):
Find out what's trending right now from Steve de Seger
in the wide world before. Wow, you know where I
got that line from. I got that line from Jerry Glanville. Okay,
my guy, this is back in like the early nineties.
We're quoting a guy who used to leave tickets for Elvis. Yes. Yeah,
before the NFL my first v partner. Glanville was having

(31:01):
this huge war of words with Sam Weis, who was
a coach of the Bengals. At the time, something happened.
I forget what it was, and like he said really
crazy stuff about Jerry Glanville. And then Monday, of course,
it all went to Falcons practice. Say, Jerry Sam wife
said this, this, this, this about you. What do you think?
And he says, well, I don't think any less of
Sam than I did prior to that. Like it's such

(31:23):
a kind of like, oh, I'm gonna use that one.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
I'm gonna use that one. And now thirty years later
I got to use it.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
One of my first gigs covering the NFL, Jerry Glanville
was coaching.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
They lost.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
I'm talking to him afterwards, and at that stadium, the
pipes had burst, and of course they're in the lowest
area of the stadium, and so let's just say there
was fluid throughout the lower part of the stadium. He said,
we're standing in this and that's appropriate the way we
played today.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
That's good. That's a good one. Always had a gem
at the ready. The Atlanta Braves game is over.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
It certainly wasn't the Rockies game of wins at Colorado
fourteen to four, and Ronald Dacunya, despite being shall we
say a costat in right field. During this game, Acunya
finished with four hits, five RBIs hit his twenty ninth homer.
He has sixty one stolen bases now on the season,
including the two tonight, so a four for five night.

(32:20):
He walked as well, and the Braves win again. They
are eighty five and forty five after this victory. Milwaukee
won its ninth game in a row, six to two
at the Cubs. The Brewers are first in the NL Central,
five games over the Cubs. In the AL Central, the
Twins first place, and they beat Cleveland tonight ten to six,
seven game lead for Minnesota ahead of the Guardians. Victories

(32:43):
for Pittsburgh and San Diego on the road, road wins
for Texas and Houston as well. Houston's win was at
Boston thirteen to five. Jose Al Tuve hit for the cycle,
including an eighth inning homer. He had four hits, four RBIs,
four run scored Baltimore and Toronto each one for Philadelphia
and the Yankees as well, so only three games left

(33:03):
on the Monday night scoreboard. The Mariners are winning again,
seven to nothing over the A's in the bottom of
the seventh the Giants are shutting out the Reds for
nothing in the top of the seventh, and the Dodgers
were leading early. They got first inning home runs from
Freddie Freeman is twenty fourth, Max Munsey his thirty first,
Arizona now leads in LA four to three. In the

(33:23):
bottom of the sixth inning, Zach Gallon with after the
opening couple of home runs five strong innings tonight. Gallon
is fourteen and five this season. How many doubles for
Freddy Freeman tonight? You know it happens to be about
five a night, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
Yeah, Because honestly, he should have stopped at second base
on his home run for double number fifty one. I mean,
the guy's gonna Brett have more doubles in a season
than anybody since nineteen thirty one, when it's he's has
a month and a little over look to get ten doubles.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
Yeah, it's like Bellinger and Seeger combined what he's doing
in a Dodger uniform this year, and he's closing in
on ninethrbis you know this weekend we.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Could be a spokesing for In and Out too. Double
double Freddy Freeman double bubble somebody already laing out right
now and then putting patent pending on this.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
Pet and pending pett and pending. This weekend, the Braves
will be at Dodger Stadium for a four game series.
Probably the top four vote getters for NL MVP are
gonna be in that game two from Atlanta too. From LA.
The Arizona Cardinals release quarterback Colt McCoy. Quarterback Kyler Murray
will miss at least the first four games. He's still
on the pup list. The Browns acquired kicker Dustin Hopkins

(34:31):
from the Chargers and cut cage York. The US Open
Tennis tournament started today. Tonight's number six Coco Golf won
in three sets. At Basketball's World Cup, the US defeated
Greece one O nine to eighty one and another win
for Slovenia. Luka Donsis thirty four points, ten rebounds, six
assists in a victory over Georgia eighty eight sixty seven.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
Back to you thanks a Bun Steve O. The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon live from
the Tirak dot Com Studios. Not so fast for that
lead by the Arizona Diamondbacks Jason Hayward, who has just
launched a two run homer to use it Upgers of
five four lead. It's like it's twenty sixteen again. Look
at this, Jason Hayward's hit a home run. I had

(35:13):
to put my glasses on, like, wait a minute, hold on,
Dodgers lead. The Diamondbacks now five to four in the
bottom of the sixth. But coming up next, you want
to know the quarterback that Peyton Manning's got to go
after for season two of Quarterbacks, I'll tell you you
could do the whole season on just this guy that's
next right here. Fox. Oh, too soon, too soon for

(35:36):
this Iowa Sam. I'd hug you, but you're not wearing pants.
Too soon for that too. Everybody's safe. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app Fox Sports Radio.
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon

(35:58):
live from the tire Rag dot Com Studios. It's a
final now the Braves win. Will bring you postgame reaction
for the Ronald Acunya getting swarmed by two fans in
the middle of an inning. Before the end of this game,
Akunya is fine. He went on to hit a two
a three run double in the ninth, So yeah, I

(36:19):
think he's okay, calm and collected. But I'll tell you
this now, Peyton Manning is at a tough time finding
anybody to do the second season of Quarterback on Netflix Day.
Have more money, well you may have to. That may
be the whole thing, Like we say, hey, we'll give
you a million dollars. Oh yeah, sure, yeah, No, No
I need more than if you're gonna be intrusive, but
I'll tell you what I know. You want three. You

(36:42):
probably settle for two. Or you could just make this
season of Quarterback about Matthew Stafford about Matthew Stafford. Now
what do we tell you? Why t people were saying, no,
they can't control the image what comes out. Yeah, Kirk
Cousins looks weird and awkward, Mark because Mariota looks like,
why do they ever entrust him to be a starting quarterback? Anyway?

(37:03):
Mahomes is bulletproof, so there's nothing for you know, no
worry about him. All you see is he he's a
trash talker. He likes to curse and he gets into
it on the field. But other quarterbacks there's not a
lot of win out there for them. You have to
be somebody that wants the image of what you do
out there because you want people to see who you are,
and there's not a lot of guys out there except

(37:25):
for maybe Matthew Stafford. It hit me today that he's
the guy after hearing this from his wife. Kelly Stafford,
who is, you know, a celebrity in her own rights,
is a very successful podcast not shy about voicing her
opinions on Life with the Lions, Life with the Rams. Here.
She was on her morning After podcast talking about the
difficulty that Matthew Stafford's having right now identifying with younger teammates.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
So Anthy was like, I don't even know how to
am I the dad? Do I take the phones? Like
what do I do here?

Speaker 2 (37:56):
I mean there?

Speaker 1 (37:57):
And He's like, I want them to see me as
like as like a he's like as a coach. You know.
He feels like they say like sir to him, and
he's like, no, no, we're on the same level here
playing in this league, Like let me get to know you.
He already has no controls, so just jump in. I
would call him sir, because the dude's gonna make more
money in his NFL career than anybody in the history.

(38:19):
He's probably worth more than he's got like three two
hundred million dollar God, he's a wizard, there's no question
about it. You want to talk about making money, multiply
tell me Matthew Stafford isn't the guy for quarterbacks, but yeah,
he's got no control with the with the rams, with hey,
I want you to know who I am, the image
of me because remember coming off the Super Bowl when
I the the woman taking the photograph left hand. What

(38:43):
it's like him trying to stay in with his teammates
and be able to lead because maybe after this year
he's looking for the last four years playing someplace else
in the NFL. His wife clearly likes the spotlight as well.
There'd be a lot with her with the podcast. There's
a lot of fun you can do with Matthew Stafford.
Is he interesting enough by himself?

Speaker 2 (39:04):
No?

Speaker 1 (39:04):
But could he be half of a big show? Yes?
And Peyton Manning should go to Matthew Stafford and say
you're my pick, You're my choice. He's got a lot.
You got everything, you got big market, You have a quarterback.
Everybody knows, you have a family that likes the spot.
You have everything you need. He's your guy for quarterback. Well,
but I mean, think about it, Kirk Cousins wasn't very interesting,
and all of a sudden everybody got on board the
dad thing. And then he shows up in the final

(39:25):
week of training camp when I don't even know what
you call that thing, kind of the lemmy killmeister. Look
as far as his facial hair goes for those what
do you mean from motor anybody with any kind of
facial He says, letny killmeister facially, and they die, n die,
after all, they just don't You just want to say year,

(39:46):
you just want to say, let me kill meister. That's
that's it. It's a complete and total lie. But yeah,
gimme Stafford is half of it. Kelly wants in and clearly,
based on what she's telling out of school, Matthew has
no control already. Yeah, might as well sign up. You
want to see what life is like. Hey, we'll show
a little bit. Matthew Stafford, he's half of your pick.
Peyton Manning. Maybe this is what he plays in his

(40:08):
off time. Coming up next, The hidden reason behind the
Trey Lance trade to the Cowboys. Keep it right here.
