Speaker 2 (00:22):
Let's give this.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, man, here we are the exuberant, excitable Friday night.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Here Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
We've got live NCED double A do we still call
it nc NC double a? Football on the screens. A
couple of games in the books, one creeping towards a final.
You thought they were dead in the water. Not so fast.
There you go leak Corse. So that one's for you.
Mike Harmon alongside Carry Rhodes, who is fired up because Louisville, Louisville,

(01:01):
the defense woke up. They will oh at halftime. I
wanted you want to talk about halftime speeches and effectiveness
and trying to rally. You know, the inches they're all
around us. We've got them in movies, we got them
in television shows. We've got one live and in living
color here as it looks like at halftime, Georgia Tech

(01:21):
forgot how to play football.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
No, I think it's the opposite way around, Mike. I
got to give credit to the world.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Sports talk radio negativity.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Give it to the offense in Louisville. Here they turned
it around. Obviously defensively they stepped up, and because they were,
they were getting pounded in the second quarter. It wasn't
a good look at all. And so for I'm going
to come back after halftime and put up this number
and put up a goose goose egg on Georgia Tech's offense.
Right now, It's been the talk of the night and
I'm so excited.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Look it just so jacked at thirty six, twenty eight,
two forty five remaining. They just had the graphic. Because
we always like our win probabilities and every everything, especially
now that we're really wrapping our arms around the gaming world.
It was at eighty eight percent early in the third quarter.
By mid third quarter, but Louisville racking up a couple

(02:12):
of turnovers, a couple of big plays on offense. There
was that huge miss thirty two yard field goal that
hangs right. It's one of those. It's okay, and the
grand on the grand scheme like that'll get lost in
a lot of that's a big play, one of those.
All right, they tack on three. All right, well we
stem the top, but they still put points on the board.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
Yeah, you missed that three, or you hit that three,
and now you're up by eight. And just the play calling,
the demeanor, the filling on the sideline is totally different
than you know if you miss that kick, because the
motivation go the momentum goes right back to Louisville. So
it's a big swing Louisville right now. Just went for
it on third and two. Now it's fourth and one.

(02:54):
Got a big decision here to get to kick the
field goal or get the first down and in the game.
So it's it's coming.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
I'm punishing you. I'm dominating you here in this second half.
If you're staying on the sideline, baby, oh, I'm with you.
One fellas, fellas, I need a couple of feet, You
get me a couple of feet here.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
That's the fire.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
I'm with you on that mic for sure. It's about winning.
Put it out, put it over, get it out the way.
And don't give them a kick. So many things can
go wrong on the kick as well. So yeah, I'll
definitely go forward on fourth and one. Here, you're just
so jacked out. I am so so good to have you.
Oh I don't know that. I don't know why I
said that.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, nicely done. There we go shaking bake baby. We're
broadcasting live from the ti rack dot com studio. See
how that ties right back into tires. When we start
talking about auto racing. Tire rack dot com we'll help
you get there. An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free
road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrack dot

(03:55):
com the way tire buying should be. As we roll out,
they will attempt the field goal. So much for coach
Harmon having the play card tonight. All right, the acc
long rumored, been out there for a while. Finally get
the vote. We talked about it a little bit last
hour with Steve de Seger. Just enough. That's all it matters, right,

(04:18):
if you have it in your bylaws that it's got
to be a certain percentage, you're playing the percentage, right.
A Hall of Famer that gets voted in by one vote,
we don't talk about that you do in the moment
right for about a day or two, and then they're
a Hall of Famer. It doesn't matter, right, you move on. Likewise, here,
all right, you've decided you're going to expand your conference.

(04:39):
You're deciding you're taking on some of these new contributors.
So SMU joins on July one, twenty twenty four, and
then Stanford and Cal will join on August second. Now,
the devil's in the details of this, because we do
a lot of handwringing when it comes to tradition and

(05:01):
history and all of those things. And for Stanford and Cal,
they've been on the sidelines watching everybody packing up and
going off to college. Like every movie and television show
of my youth of I had to stay here in
this stinking po dunk town while you got to go
live in the big city. You got to go to
the big conferences and see the great stars a line

(05:22):
and all the riches. And I had tosider. I had
to work in the factory.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Yeah, and still and ends up with the girl that
he wants.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
No, that's it right, movie, you get it all, but
you have this thing Stanford and Cal waiting around. Finally,
get their deal, and this according to Yahoo Sports, that
their revenue shares are gonna be about thirty percent for
those first years. SMU is not going to get media
rights for nine years. Like there's a thing of Hey,

(05:54):
I want to be part of your conference. I think
there's some prestige. I think there's some stuff we can
offer and some benefit to us change the latter ahead.
We could do all of these different things. You're not
getting metia rights, So who's gott in the checks behind
the scenes and you're building I mean, I want to
know who those boosters are that I don't worry about that.
Don't worry about that. You need the media rightes. I

(06:16):
want that those are the guys I want to know.
I want to be in the room with those guys.
Who are the guys that are helping the decision makers
make the decision Because we've seen a lot of smart
people make some really dumb moves in the larger world
of the NCAA slash college football at the university presidents
across the Pac twelve. If you're to believe some of

(06:36):
the deals that have been reportedly offered the last couple
of years that they turned down. Yeah, you know, it's
the Hey, it's the smartest guy in the room, but
he can't tie his shoe, so he wears, you know,
just slip on loafers every day. You know that kind
of thing. That's kind of how I receive a lot
of these PAC twelve or what will be what's left
of the PAC twelve. And we'll see what the next

(06:58):
iteration of that is. But if you're gonna go into
a new conference and you're gonna say, all right, we
can go by with a certain percentage, thirty percent for
Stanford cal So you've got some money people that have
chimed in on this, yes, And then over at SMU
nine years you really got some money people. I want
to know, the oil barons in the background. Then you've

(07:19):
got some jr ewing stuff going on.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
It might be it wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure the.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Same guys that took care of Dickerson and.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
Oh yeah you went a little too. Yeah, you went
directly to the to the point.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
I mean, he went directly to the he would smile
about it at this point.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Why not? At this point everything else is whatever. Everybody's
got a platform, remember.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Actually everybody's got the thing and he's certainly part of
our extended family as well. He had one of his
greatest moments ever on radio where he got done wrong
by the Rams a little bit.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Let's just say we had to hit that shiny button
multiple times, did you Yeah, multiple times. It was spicy, Carrie, spicy.
But it's just this, this curiosity in this shifting in
the shifting sands. Look, it's business, and I think this
is just like paying players nil. All of these things.

(08:19):
It was an inevitable at a glacier's pace, right as
you can attest you right owing to your time in
as a collegiate athlete through the NFL is it doesn't
move at the pace you want. Most things in life don't,
but when it does, it comes at you fast. Right.
We talked about literally glaciers, right, It's like all right

(08:40):
for thousands of years and then all of a sudden, gone.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Gone, showing up in Canada. Yeah, you know, like it's uh,
that's how it is. I think we get to a
point of expecting things to go a certain way for
us for a long time or for a while, and
that thing doesn't happen. Then all of a sudden, that
thing is here. And you know, you get that chance
to go, you know, play with the big boys and
and realign in different conferences and have a chance to

(09:03):
win and make your own you know, make your own
name in these different you know, different conferences. And so
you know it's here, and you know you have guys
like cal and you have Stanford who's had you know,
had some you know some some glory days and a
lot of times where they've been they have been the marquee.
But SMU a team like that that has not a
lot of history, not a lot of you know success,

(09:24):
you know some you know some sometimes of some really
good football, but you know they have to kind of
pay their dues and get a chance to compete with
you know, a conference that has you know, produced champions
the last in the last ten years. So I mean,
it's it's gonna be fun and interesting to say.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips channeling is inner shawshank redemption quote.
You either get busy or you get left behind. That
was part of his opening statement, yeah, earlier. And then
you have the North Carolina Chancellor right, one of the
teams that said beat it. We don't, we don't, we
don't want it had the statements just said, well, we
won't know, but quote I respect the outcome of today's vote. Well, yeah,

(10:02):
if you got three teams that are going to come
in and for the next half decade plus, man, merely
a full decade, one of them isn't getting any of
your money out of the DV stuff, and the other
two are going to do so at a reduced clip. Yeah,
come on in. Maybe maybe the numbers will work that
you're actually a net benefit.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
You know what, we got a little room for you, guys.
Come on in.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Well, I mean you figure it out right, because you
talk about the Olympic sports, some of the the non
revenue things where you can bolster, and we know the
PAC twelve long the Conference of champions. We can run
down the list of dominance in certain track and field
and other things. You bring the table, not to mention
the academic side of it, and I know that in

(10:44):
twenty twenty three that may not have the same juice
because look, I'm a Northwestern grad. I keep waiting to
be relegated now that everybody's jumping on board the PAC ten.
At some point I really thought the super Conference was
going to start with Stanford cal Northwestern Vanderbilt. Okay, but
I think that these guys are all going to get
bounced somebody, and it was going to be all the

(11:05):
you know, maybe it would be an academic Bowl as
well as a couple of random football games.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
That'd be tough. Yeah, who would win that? Who win
the Academic Bowl? Between those? I mean obviously the hot
the hot pick would probably be Stanford. Right.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Well, maybe Rustian McCaffrey's not walking through that door again.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
No, I'm sure it's another one of those somewhere, another
McCaffrey there could be.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
But but just the idea that you know, you're you're
in this state, and there's all a lot of hand ringing,
and it's certainly you know, like when we get get
into some of the discussions about Major League Baseball, right,
we can usually put some some age to some of
those discussions because folks don't want to see change like

(11:46):
this year. Am I thrilled with all of the rules
major League Baseball changed up? No? But you know what
can't argue with the numbers, the fact that you shaved
off a half an hour per game. Runs are are
coming across the plate, Guys are actually putting the ball
in play except for a few teams that team batting
averages are down in the two thirties, but we're getting

(12:09):
more than a three outcome product. Right, We're talking about
Ronald Lacuna Junior. He's got sixty stolen bases. I love
the fact that we actually have a guy with sixties
dole as it's been a minute though since we had
a guy with We don't see that so yes in
the thirties SIXTI is just absurd. But just the idea
that we're going back to some of the baseball that

(12:29):
we I mean, I hate the ghost runner and I
will always hate the ghost Runner no matter what you do,
and no matter how many other changes you make along
the way and the shift, learn to hit hit around it.
That's my thought. But again, fine, you want to you
want to get this flowing. I understand it. And again,
attendance up. You have several markets that haven't been viable

(12:50):
forever that help juice that and roll through for college football,
for all sports, sometimes you need something to goose the
system and maybe this is where you know you start
getting the consolidation, and a lot of it is where
the NCAA doesn't have the same power, right that it did.
We see some of the you know, hey, we're going

(13:11):
to negotiate with Jim Harbaugh about his suspension. Really, we're
negotiating this. Here's what we're doing for Tennessee. Let's you're
gonna vacate wins. Does that work? Does anybody pay attention
to that? No other than Reggie Bush's heisman, has anything
ever been vacated that Anybody said, Oh, no, it's terrible. No, no,
you still remember them winning.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Likewise, nobody reaches back into the university saying we estimate
that you made this much money off of that title,
give it back. You don't do it right?

Speaker 4 (13:41):
No?

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Right, I mean Tennessee eight million dollars. Yeah, there's the
payout we got for the Bowl game scholarships all right,
Time served. So as everything changes there, it becomes the conferences.
And the running joke has been for years that it
was going to be ESPN and Fox as the new
co commissioners wearing hats.

Speaker 4 (13:59):
Oh, and that's kind of where we're at the TV deals.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
TV deals run at all, And now how many other
chairs are at that table As we move into the
next iteration of.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
Things that will be interesting to see me. I think
we I think that used to be the elephant in
the room, which it isn't anymore. I think everybody understands that. Obviously,
it's from a money, you know, money positioning standpoint with
most of these things, and where does the money come from?
Plan on TV being able to get those deals and

(14:31):
get people on board, to see your team play and
put your product on the national stage where it can
be seen. And right now, obviously ESPN and Fox is
running the show with that.

Speaker 2 (14:40):

(15:00):

Speaker 4 (15:01):
It's a guy.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
You can do more than a golf cat. Clap your
squad good sweat tears. Some tears in the first half. Now,
Georgia Tech finally did ruin the party of the shutout.
The second half, you and Profed are gonna come to blows.
At some point he was talking to you earlier. But
that's okay because that's what we do here. We're a big,

(15:22):
happy family. Chris Patrick, Steve Disager with us tonight Mike
Carmen alongside Carry Roads. Jason'll be back on Monday. I think, yeah,
he's in Monday, and then I'll be back Tuesday as
we get ready to launch into another NFL season. But yes,
Louisville wins this one. Georgia Tech held you just six points.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
The National Championship was still alive.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Baby, You know what, you got to live the dream,
you know what I mean? The long road begins with
that first step and coming up next, Hey, one team
in the NFC North trying to make some noise. Their
quarterback getting a lot of love, although he would tell
you in the socials nothing but hate, hate hate. Who
is it? What's that all about? And is it more
hot take nonsense? We'll tell you all about it next

(16:06):
year on Fox.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Hey, welcome back in Fox Sports Radio Live fortheti Rack
dot Com Studios Mike Harmon alongside Carrie Roads The Jason
Smith Show with Me Mike Carmon, No Jason Smith. Tonight
we're watching the Dodgers, Oh early rests reminiscent of yesterday.
It's for nothing in the fifth Braves batting couple of

(16:41):
runners on as Uri is getting racked around a little
bit here. That just means the Dodgers will stage another
dramatic comeback effort, or maybe they won't, but we'll watch
it here live and in living color. As we're here
with you, much being made. Look, we've got Chris Purfett
on the Ones News tonight prior to Detroit, where he

(17:02):
could find his stuff at Chris Purfett. He is in
the rarefied air as a media member covering the Detroit
Lions where they're actually favored and everybody's darling coming into
the season in the NFC North. Now me, growing up
on the South Side of Chicago, I have lived and
died with some really fun and exciting Bears teams and

(17:26):
some really miserable, terrible squads and regimes that I'd like
to forget, you know, I'd like to go men in black,
pull up the flashy thing and just forget some of that.
But despite a lot of prognostications going out and reyby
once in a while, someone's just throwing the dart, I think,
just to be different. But the Bears for most are

(17:49):
the consensus last place team in the NFC North right
you're you're talking there, or folks that just decided it
had to be everything Aaron Rodgers. So Jordan Love's gonna
come in and he's going to be terrible, but Justin
Field's getting MVP consideration. A lot of wagers on the

(18:10):
Bear starter stock jury out in a lot of cases
as to whether he's a viable NFL quarterback. Whilch, I'll
ask your opinion here in a second, but he's taken
to the old tact by one of the greatest in
NBA history. When it comes to social media this year,

(18:30):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
Look at that to be aout the wadest Twitter.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
I don't have Twitter, so like all the tray stuff,
like when we're talking at the end of the day,
I didn't know any of it, and so he told me,
so I'm surprised sitting there and stuff like that. So
it's just best not to look at that stuff because
I honestly feel like there's people in this world that
they just want to hate on you or they want
to criticize every little thing you do. This and that

(18:52):
what he could have done this better? Yeah it was
a touchdown, but like so it's just like it's best
not even looking at such to be honest with you.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Know, he's not right that you could you could score
with a touchdown until say what you had a guy
wide hope over there. I mean, we know how that goes.
This was part of a conversation that he'd had the
Chicago Tribune on Odyssey's podcast Take the North but Going
Zero Dark twenty three, the Lebron thing that he used
to do going into the playoffs and everything else, and

(19:21):
then realizing, well, that's a lot of content and that's
a lot of views and stuff I'm not getting, So
I don't know that that exists anymore. Yeah, no, no matter,
you just have someone on your team do it. But
for Fields and sometimes not a bad approach.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
It's a great approach for him. It shows his team,
It showed his organization that he's not gonna be out
putting out random tweets and you know, not having enough
time to study his playbook because he's scrolling on Instagram.
I'm looking for you know, looking for hotties on there
or whatever the case may be. So yes, zero Doc
thirty twenty three. When it comes to social media, is

(19:57):
a good thing for a quarterback like Justin Fields who's
coming out and having a chance to have all the
faith in him and like you said, have a few
MVP votes thrown in there as well, or you know,
uh prognosticators or fans alike thinking that he could be
a breakout player in twenty three. But you know, Justin
Field is the guy that I just really don't think

(20:18):
he has enough to be a really good player this year.
And I think their team is going to do really bad,
and so you said it. I think they're going to
finish fourth in that division and it's just not going
to look pretty for them at all.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Is currently tied for tenth with Dak Prescott at twenty
five to one, Mahomes at six to one, your favorite
Burrow right behind him coming in with injury considerations and
I think he has a little bit of that Jonathan
Taylor coming in as well. How hurd of my versus
why isn't my contract fatter?

Speaker 4 (20:49):
That's Burroughs. You do you think that's right?

Speaker 3 (20:51):
Now?

Speaker 4 (20:52):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
I don't think think a preseason you don't need to.
I mean, he doesn't need to be out there one
hundred percent, right, Yes, so you can play it up
and then finally he's back at practice. So it's there
as you go back to week one. But but it's
one of those considerations that you're just like, how much
are you hurt? How much are you hurt?

Speaker 4 (21:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Right, it's from a psychological because let's face the Bengals
aren't exactly known for rolling out novelty sized checks to
guys either.

Speaker 4 (21:17):
That's true. But they found their guy, and yes, it's
gonna be right about their past, but they've got the
golden ticket they got, they got their golden pony in
this in this race, and I think they're gonna take
care of him. And yeah, I mean him being out
there in the preseason didn't matter anyway. We've already we
know who he is, we know what's up a quarterback

(21:38):
he's gonna be. So there's no question there. Let's be
healthy going to the season and they're gonna get the
deal done with him. They're not gonna wait too long.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
I would hope. So you would think that Steph would
push through once justin Herbert got his exactly. But yeah, hey,
it's a strange business, right. We're watching Chris Jones, We're
watching Nick Bosa. Obviously a lot of ks slung on
the Jonathan Taylor. I think the defensive guys are a
little more interesting, at least from where I sit based
on look. Jonathan Taylor is a great running back, but

(22:07):
on a wins loss basis, you can't tell me he's
anywhere near as important as those other two guys are
in terms of team fortunes and how everything flows from them.
I love running backs. I'm about three yards and a
cloud of dust kind of guy again, Big ten guy,
when the Big Ten was still running the football before

(22:27):
you know, Tiller and everybody started changing things up but Purdue.
But go back to the run game. Obviously growing up
watching Walter Payton running behind Matt Suey and all that
stuff for the Bears, but recognizing as much as I
love the running back position and still do, it's an
ever evolving thing in terms of wins and losses. It's

(22:47):
hard to argue that your win total is shifting too much.
If Taylor's not there, right? What are we talking a
half win between him and Dion Jackson probably yeah, and
Evan holl and whoever else got the Northwestern back, but
however else you cobble that together versus what we know.
A quarterback is worth a good quarterback being worth a

(23:07):
touchdown to the spread, but a defensive player the caliber
of a Bosa or a T. J. Watt. You see
what Pittsburgh does if he's not on the field, right,
it's the crumbles, right, they're much to It's like the
field during the dark Knight Dark Knight rises when hines
Ward is suddenly faster than he's ever been in his life,

(23:30):
trying to outrun the explosives. But we'd look at the
idea of Jones for for Kansas City. I mean, that's
the one to me that I'm hanging the star and
going all right, I get it. And Travis Kelsey coming
out and talking and people worried about Travis Kelsey's wallet.
He's doing fine, fine, he's fine, especially with the extra
fifteen minutes of fame. If they he really wanted to

(23:52):
push the issue, he'd go push the issue, right, But
he's not, at least for now. Eventually, you know the
he'll figure out the pressure points like he's watching an
old steven Sagall movie as to how to take somebody
out What I did there?

Speaker 4 (24:05):
Who havant? Definitely to the risk, get you well?

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Or are the Denzel Washington thing right in the latest
Equalizer the Equalizer three that you saw that little promotion going.
But it's just an interesting game of chicken when it
comes to players of that caliber coming into a new season.

Speaker 4 (24:26):
Yeah, I think the you said you hit it, you
hit the nail on the head though. I mean it's
those defensive guys, especially edge rushers. They can wreck a game.
They can w RecA You know, it can be one
of those situations where you know your defense doesn't function
with those without those guys because now you've got to
bring an extra guy out of covers to come down
and get pressure on quarterbacks and just that extra space

(24:47):
for the elite quarterbacks in that division, especially in the AFC,
it can provide your team with the loss or win.
And it's really swayed on those guys production and them
being there. Chris Jones last year in Kennas City. If
he's not there, they don't win the championship last year
and that was proven. You know, he had a big
game in the playoffs that you know, changed the course
of what they were going to do in that playoff series.

(25:08):
So you know, to see them get to that point
and to not pay these guys, it's always tricky, seamed
by Kennas City that historically doesn't pay pay out well
either and for your quarterback to be grossly underpaid the
way he is and you're tight.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
He made a choice, he did, no because looks a choice.
But but this is where I got to defend the speat. Yeah,
I mean he made it. He made a choice. But
they've come out and said he's gross under paid too.
It's not just but you can recognize that right exactly.
But it's like I've been arguing with the certainly with
Jason quite a bit. In the collective noise. I think

(25:43):
I would call it related to the Indianapolis situation, you know,
because Jim Mersey had his quote that got everybody up
in arms of you know, I could be dead and
you could be gone and we all moved on right,
all right. Just it's a little brash, but him wrong. Uh,
But it's also the the idea of I don't need
to pay you yet, Like I can love you, and

(26:04):
I think you're the greatest player for the position and
what you need and what you do in the community
and what you are for our helmet and logo and
everything else. But if I don't have to pay you yet,
and you're coming off an injury and you're a running back,
why am I rushing to write you a giant check

(26:24):
just to make you feel better about yourself?

Speaker 4 (26:26):
I get it? Yeah, right, yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
With these other guys, I mean, you're talking about materially
changing your squad. And with Patrick Mahomes, he decided that
was enough. Do they have the handshake agreement of we
tear this up as the market changes over a couple
of years. Maybe maybe not.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
Well, the Marcus changed and they haven't torn it up
yet so well, but.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
It's been it's been a couple of years, right, it's
not that deep into long deal. Right. But if he
starts getting anxious, I gotta imagine they'll be able to
shake a few more nickels out for him and everybody
will be just just fine. But it's the you know,
the dollar worrying about a guy, Oh, he's terribly underpaid.
It's like the Tom Brady argument. Never made any sense

(27:07):
to me. With me, you could argue what they did
in New England with the money that he didn't make.
But from the rest of the league, everybody could go
in with their agent or I should say, the team say, hey,
you know what, Tom Brady took this deal, we'd like
you to take a deal like that. Okay, asked an answer,
because I'm going to tell you to pound sand because
I want my money. I'm not Tom Brady. I didn't

(27:28):
have Gizelle and I hadn't been around for twenty years. Yes,
so I need to get paid now.

Speaker 4 (27:33):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
Right.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
To tell me that that had any material effect on
anybody else's dollars is just foolish, right, It's just foolish
to me. Everybody else was still making crazy money because
if it really affected it, then you would have seen
guys so only making seventeen eighteen or some marginal amount
above Brady as opposed to getting into the thirties and forties.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
Exactly. Yeah, those numbers, even though he was taking you know,
quote unquote pay cuts to help the team win. Obviously,
those deals are structured in the way also that they're
making a lot more. They're making a lot more money
than you think because those deals of what he would
be taking top dollar as far as the end number
was let's go back and check out what his guaranteed contracts.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
But it was.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
And so I think that's the part that people, you know,
kind of gloss over when they're seeing these deals. They
see these astronomical numbers at the end of the day.
At the end of the day, it looks pretty what's
the guy guaranteed, what's the signing is guaranteed? What's the
signing bon Yes, that's it.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
Everything else is funny money. Hey it's a shiny number.
Hey you got the most per year. How much of
it's guaranteed exactly? Which is why Kirk Cousins is a
wizard guaranteed money master the restriction and he's now got
that cool kind of No, he's my favorite player right now.

(28:48):
He decided I look too nerdy, so I'm gonna go
next level. I'm going Hetfield from the Black album.

Speaker 4 (28:54):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Yes, he just needs to grow the hair out.

Speaker 4 (28:57):
A little bit. You know, he's become my He's become
my favorite player right now. Over the off season, he's
kind of won me over with the Netflix show and
obviously he's not you know, he's you know, Lamar is
my favorite player. He's my my, my, my little protegee.
It's my guy. But Lamar Jackson. But I mean Kirk
Cousins right now. The Netflix special just how he how
he's portrayed, how he came up and played, how he
talked about, how he expressed himself and who he was,

(29:19):
and we got to see the real Kirk Cousins. Now,
I'm like on the bend wagon. Even though they're going
to finish third in that division, I still I still
like Kirk though.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
All right, so their third, the Bears are fourth, So
what the Lions?

Speaker 4 (29:33):
I am? Yeah, Yeah, I think the Lions are finally
going to get it done as far as making that
leap to the playoffs and then you know you're getting
the playoffs. Anything can happen in that NFC. I'm not
so sold on any team. The only team that I
do feel will have a better year than most people
are thinking. I'm thinking ten friend is going to probably

(29:57):
win the NFC. And that's one thing that's one of
my for you right now.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Okay, because we'll stay with that because you're gonna need
to sell me on Brock Purty I will a little
bit more, or Sam Darnold or the combination thereof sell
job coming up next year. Carrie Rhoads in for Jason Smith.
He's got a big shovel next to him because he's
also putting dirt over the Georgia Tech squad after the

(30:22):
big Louisville comeback. Hey, at the end of your first year,

for Bucks wide receiver Mike Evans said a September ninth

of his current deal to Major League Baseball.

Speaker 7 (32:26):
Braves are winning again five nothing at Dodger Stadium in
the top of the six, hitting three run, three homers.
I should say five runs total off Julio Arius, the
LA starter who lasted five innings Oureus, including tonight's and
his last outing against Boston eleven innings, eleven runs, allowed
six home runs, giving up in those last two starts.

(32:49):
He learned it from watching Lance Lynn Yeah Yeah, like
his teammate. Last night, Padres at home lead the Giant
six to two in the bottom of the six, that
Arizona Diamondbacks ahead of the Orioles for to one in
the bottom of the seventh. Blue Jay's bottom of the
ninth lead at Colorado thirteen to seven. Earlier wins for
Pittsburgh in ten innings for Detroit and Kansas City. Milwaukee

(33:11):
beat Philadelphia seven to five with four runs in the
bottom of the eighth, three of them on a third

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Back to you, thanks so much, Steve. Coming up next
year Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show with Me, Mike Carvin,
Kerry Rhodes, former NFL standout trying to hold down wide receivers.

Speaker 4 (33:49):
Trying to So I heard that. Yeah, that was very disrespectful, Mike.
I did that pretty well.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
I was.

Speaker 4 (33:54):
It was probably my mstrog suit holding those guys down.
No fear nobody.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
I wasn't dis respect you. So it's a changing game.
Some tall tasks.

Speaker 4 (34:03):
I would love it if I was playing right now
in this era of football, I would you can get
to touch anybody, I will get you.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
I mean you's got to be in the space.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
I'll catch it. I'll take it.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
You just gotta.

Speaker 4 (34:15):
I'm like the terminata take the ball. You know what
I mean.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
Well, I mean that's pile up some interceptions. You want
to talk about getting bad money, I got no question about.
I mean, because we were watching, you know, the feudal
efforts on some of the I mean, they gotta get
rid of these gloves.

Speaker 4 (34:32):
Man, it's hard. There you go, there you go. You're
a little late, but you came, you came through, You
came through. No, the know, the gloves are planing dB
in general, Mike, it's such a hard thing to do.
You can.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
You had that big argument the other day on on
Skip show. Those guys are getting after it.

Speaker 4 (34:52):
Yeah, Rich Sermon's right on that. That's it's the hardest position.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
I'm really surprised on that side of the figure. Carry
oads in for Jackson Smith also a musician. Check him
out Carrie twenty five Roads on x slash Twitter. More
music coming soon. But he's also got his hot take theater.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
Welcome back in Fox Sports or Radio to dance party.
My partner tonight Carrie Road celebrating that big Louisville come
from a high victory over Georgia Tech. Come on, Mike,
Let's bounce. Let's bounce, Mike Ramblin. Wreck was a wreck
in the second half. They got taken the task by Louisville.

(36:49):
I just like saying Louisville.

Speaker 8 (36:50):
You know, I can't play a car crash sound on air,
but I would if I could understand that.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
You know, it was an intendance at that game as well, Right,
Who's that you're talking about? You know, great receivers and
been a DBN being hard to stop those guys. Mega
Tron was at the game for Georgia Tech. One of
my heroes, Calvin Johnson was in attendance. He still looks
like he can go run, go around, big smile.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
Chris Purfette, I'm one of the guys that watching him
terrorize Bears defensive backs.

Speaker 8 (37:18):
And very smart man too from Georgia Tech, like full
degree and everything, and still I think does some projects
on the side that uses that you know, tech engineering school.

Speaker 4 (37:28):
He uses it.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
Oh yeah, that degree for sure.

Speaker 4 (37:29):
Smart guy for sure. Looked like he was having fun
in that first half and Dann we got it snatched
away by Louisville when we came back and took his soul,
just like playing with the Lions all those Oh see, I.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Thought I was just gonna leave that out there. Who
came back with that shovel for one more?

Speaker 4 (37:46):
One more time? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (37:47):
Why am hey? At the end of your first year,
Discover credit cards automatically double all the cash back you've earned.
I tryed everything you've earned doubled. Seriously see terms. Check
it out for yourself at discover dot com. Slash match
coming up in minute, you'll hear the worst inspirational speech
by a coach ever given. And it was promoted by
the team's social media, all their channels. And I asked myself,

(38:12):
was it edited? Is there a full cut of a speech?
Because as it was related, it made no sense to anybody,
and we all laugh at him before the season.

Speaker 4 (38:22):
It hurts me, and it hurts me too. We'll talk
about it, but it hurts me.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
It hurts your soul. I can I can see there
was that soul snatching thing. It comes around, man, it
comes back for me. Now now we're talking about the
forty nine ers, and we'd look at the NFC. We've
got a little bit of love fest for the for
the Lions in the NFC nor with plenty of time,
we got a few more days for all the prognostication
and getting everything down on paper. There's a sheet Dan Byer,

(38:48):
our guy working the update desk. You hear him with
me on the eye Watch of Flex Fantasy podcast coming
back for another season, and you hear them as part
of the Doug Gottlieb and Riching Cavino and rich shows
always puts up the board where we got to make
some predictions for the fight ye uh to come. So
I've been mulling it over doing the long Linel Richie,

(39:10):
Hello walks on the beach in all nine yard before
I put my down. But you're you're pushing in on
the forty nine ers. You've seen enough from Brock Purty
to trust Shanahan because the Lance thing is what it is.
We just pushed that off to the set. But we
got Purty on a short run and a great story
mister irrelevant to the starter on this Juggernaut. And then

(39:31):
you got Sam Darnold, who I keep wondering does he
finally find because he look he's a alder. These guys
that are playing quarterback at college exactly right. We were
talking about that to start, So you got to listen
to the whole show, find the podcast. But you're you're
full on in is Is it because of that roster
around him that insulates him from potential disaster?

Speaker 4 (39:52):
They need a guy that's not going to make the
mistakes and any of the guy that can be accurate,
you know, if things get tough, they can be a
little spark plug as well. I think brock Perty is
all that, But I believe more in the supporting cast
around him and the defense that they have already and
the pieces that they have in place already, They're gonna

(40:14):
be in the hunt. If he's healthy enough to perform
and just be there, They're gonna be fine.

Speaker 6 (40:20):
See.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
And I go back to to Purty as the guy
and remains to be seen right what the growing pains
will be. But I at least know that I had
a very large catalog of tape on him because he
played a lot of college football, right as opposed to
a lot of these other guys that are coming in,
like Richardson's gonna come in what sixteen games? Trey Lance
and we saw what four hundred ninety two snaps or

(40:42):
whatever it is since high school. All of that, we
know he's been through some wars, that he's seen some boalance,
and he's got a squad around him to help pick
him up. Coming up next, when coaching inspirational speeches go wrong,
he's carry roads on my Carmen. This is Fox Sports Radio.
