Speaker 3 (01:04):
Los Angeles area. Well, what just it?

Speaker 2 (01:06):
We'll start burning stuff in a garbage can, like the
guys the dou Wop guys and Rocky and the whole
night and take me.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Back old tonight exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, my guy carry Rhodes in for Jason Smith to night.
And now we're gonna go to your old stomping grounds.
Let's talk about the New York Football Jets.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
You're excited about it.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
You got a book that you uh, you're gonna you know,
name names from your time there.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
There it is, Yeah, miss misspelling it. That was bad.
That was my boy Tony Richardson too, So that hurts.
He's a good guy. But yeah, it was a bad,
bad moment, God happened.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
But I mean there's a lot of tales, a lot
of good, a lot of bad, a lot of ugly
personal success. Uh, some my high level play.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Certainly.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
We chronicled it here, uh at Fox Sports Radio for
years and you know, we're we're blessed to have you
as part of the team. And they pick your brain
on this stuff because you've you've seen all parts of it.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Right.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
We had one of the sound bites from the Odd
Couple talking about Travis Kelcey and how in theory he
should react to TJ Hockinson's deal, and you see some
of the funny money as some would call it, like
like you get paid, which you get paid, like at
any profession, if you can get a dollar more doing
the same job across the street, nobody's gonna grudge you

(02:24):
if you go get the dollar across the street. But
in the NFL, unlike everything else in the sporting universed,
Baseball guaranteed money, NBA guaranteed money. So whenever we see
dollars and cents passed aroundn't worry. We're gonna get to
the jets in my dream.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
It's an awesome dream too. Uh, but it's the the
it's a beautiful dream as as wee. Yeah, well, I
was going to the beginning of Mama Mia because then
I could do the whole show tunes thing. But you know,
it's it's all about the guarantee, right. You could put
whatever you want to get a headline right to have
the record, and we're putting their quotes in like we're

(03:04):
talking about BS High again as a school. But the
idea is like how much am I actually clearing into
my account? Right? What's the devil of the details versus
what's the shiny thing you could stay at a press
conference and stand there smile at all.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
Pretty Yeah, And I think that's the beautiful thing, right,
that's the catch of it all us as outsiders, because
I'm an outsider now, right. We're looking at these things,
and we're looking at these contracts that these quarterbacks are
being paid, and you know, not just quarterbacks, but all
the highest paid players at their positions. And you see
that in number and you get enamored with that number,
but at the end of the day, what they're really

(03:41):
making is only that guaranteed money. And so you know, look,
if we broke down these deals and really dove into
them to see what they were really really worth, we'd
see that some of these arguments were just silly that
we're having about players asking for more money and doing
these things. Because if we broke it down by seeing
these guaranteed deals, I think that story will probably be different.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
I think the biggest thing for me, whenever we start
getting one, you know, it's always you know, checking another
man or a woman's wallet is always a difficult proposition,
and it's just like we get into and I love
the headiness and the devil and the details kind of stuff.
When it comes to CBA arguments, and where sticking points
are and recognize it right now.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
I mean we're we're in.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
A big, big town where there's strikes going on, and
you see protests and pickets and everything outside studios all
across globe. But certainly here in the heart of it, right,
you do some acting.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Right.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
So certainly we go through this process, writers and actors
and now in what day one, twenty one issue whatever
it is, it's in the triple digits, but the motivations
of each person as part of the union, like you could,
you could take it down to the brass tacks of whatever.

(04:59):
The that insurance number is, what is a twenty six
thousand and four thirty or whatever? That number is right
to have your insurance for the year. And so I
remember during the COVID years, if you go watch Law
and Order SVU, there were a lot of Broadway actors
that were suddenly in those scenes and showing up as
murderers really and suspect. It's like, oh that guy was beetlejuice,

(05:21):
oh man. But there was the way that they could
help out and wrap their arms around the production people
who might not have been able to go get their
insurance for that year because Broadway was shut down, right. So,
but likewise, when we talk about the NFL in particular,
you've got so many different categories of player all under

(05:44):
the PA. Right, So at the end of your career,
your considerations. I got to get my guaranteed money, yeah,
but for the a lot of the other stuff that
the first second year guys, the undrafted free agents, the
guys who know it's ending but never got that second
big contract or whatever. Right, Because I mean it's a

(06:05):
long tail, right, we could say till we're blue in
the face. Hey it's three and a half years or
three and a quarter years or whatever. How many guys
show up, We see them in training camp.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
And they right.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
I mean that there's a lot of names on that
side to get to where we're going. So the considerations,
it's always going to be a fool's errand to try
to get consolidation and really be able to flex any
power as a players association, because you've got such vastly
different considerations, Like everybody could want another day off, and

(06:40):
I'm very critical of it. Sorry, you know if you're
gonna take it personally, but because because it's hard, right,
Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and those guys on the back end,
and it's not just because they're quarterbacks, but we're talking
high owners, been around, they're secure, they're they're ready to
go do the same at your position at linebacker all
the way through, and then there's everybody else. So the

(07:02):
consideration is different of all right, how long does you know?

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Am I vested? Am I not? You know?

Speaker 2 (07:08):
What's the benefit look like based on what I've played,
Like if I get cut tomorrow. So when they go
in the next CBA comes up, like trying to get
everybody in the room to where you're at a consensus
on stuff is virtually impossible. Likewise, guys actually signing their
next contract. Travis Kelcey seems pretty okay with the world
as a whole. Doesn't mean he wants another dollar more, No,

(07:31):
And I've seen enough of his acting. I've got it
done with His brother's joining him too. He's got a
documentary coming in the podcast. Good for them, and that's great,
and their audience is building whatever. But they seem content
like they've they've had great careers, they're in winning situations.
Life is right, right, life is good. Why why upset

(07:53):
the apple cart too much? But if they wanted to.
They can go get the headlines and get the plus
one dollar to reset things for sure, but the motivations
for guys are going to be vastly different.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
I agree.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Yeah, I think there's a level of you know, if
if you haven't had it, I think success. I think
winning becomes vital for players who've already you know, have
touched that dollar and had some money in their bank
account for a little while, and that's not the focus
of what they're trying to get accomplished. And then you
have some that are, you know, on different situations, different

(08:29):
teams haven't been on winners to the degree that Kelsey has,
and so the dollar is very important, right. The security
of what that entails is big. And if you're not
in a winning situation and there's money left over and
I'm deservant, why not ask for it?

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Right?

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Well, but when your career ends, let's be honest with it.
The only time anybody's doing any dollar counting for you
is if you didn't win. Yeah, oh he made all
this money dot dot.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Oh yah, nobody's talking about it that at the.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Like Travis Kelcey, he quit tomorrow, Do I know what
he made his career earnings. We can play that game.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Yeah, we could play it. We can find out, but.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
But like legitimately, nobody cares. Like, all right, he won
a couple of super Bowls, he was the most dominant
tight end, and he was a smart ass.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
Yeah, I mean yeah, the debate between him being underpaid,
it would not be. It's not in your top five
bullet points now talking about it. You know, you could
have made two more dollars if you took that. No,
I don't think that's right.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
You know what that extra five million bucks you would
you would have been able to buy another house.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Yeah, you could have had it, man, I mean yeah,
I don't know what you really did with yourself and
your career.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
Yeah, you're a failure. Yeah, it blew it, no question
about it.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
All right, Mike Carmon alongside carry Roads, we're going to
continue with the idea of the dream because we're on
the high end of that spectrum in terms of career, earnings, career.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
I don't know the Laurel Crowns.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Except he's missing one thing, you know, that second super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (09:58):
But he's now with.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
You former squad, and really the flowery language, much like
the overweighted stuff of this team is going to be great.
Kind of done with the Jets and I'll work with
Jason Smith. Oh no, come on, I'll tell you why
it's not such a beautiful dream for me. Coming up next,
he's carry roads in for Jason Smith. I'm by Harmon.

He did tell me that he thinks Northwestern can win tomorrow.

(11:15):
I said, well, it's Rutgers. Yeah, they could beat Rutgers.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
They can beat Rutgers, but I don't think they will
beat Rutgers.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
I just I'm sorry. I'm not back.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
I just wanted to be mean to me.

Speaker 3 (11:25):

a little bit.

Todd when he joins us the Bet the Board podcast,
You're not gonna find anything better out there. Our information
man taking an exhale before we get into Week one

(12:09):
of the NFL and Ernest so he'll join us next
week As we flow but the awesome dream, the beautiful dream,
as it was termed Aaron Rodgers talking about this this
world of bliss that he's at, and I've talked about
the the entirety and then you know, often imitated, never
duplicated as far as brand rehabilitation and just a reawakening

(12:32):
for a guy. Right, Sometimes you need a new change
of scenery. I mean all of you out there, relationships, jobs,
whatever and whatever else you got popping in your life.
Sometimes you need a hard reset. Sometimes it's forced upon you.
In this case, it was a long tail to it,
much like we were talking about the beginnings and endings
of careers. Same thing for Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.

(12:55):
It was a couple of years coming, a couple of
MVP years mixed therein in the mix, and how much
angst there was over the selection of Jordan Love. Look
from a pragmatism standpoint, which I think you've come to
know me enough that it's like, I'll still defend that
draft picked on blue in the face because the last
time that they were left with a pretty good team

(13:17):
and no quarterback, Brent Huntley was out there and it
all went to hell. Sorry that I have to pick
on him, but it was a good start to the season.
Rogers gets hurt and then they they couldn't complete a
forward pass. It was like watching Navy against notre to
him last week. Right, he's gone, and now you have
a team, which I think is pretty good in Green Bay.

(13:38):
We'll see what Jordan Love becomes. But we look at
the Jets and you've had hard knocks, You've had all
of these things. Rogers goes into this, you know, kind
of whimsical tale that I think someone should just put
the animated AI version of him, kind of like he's
in the middle of one of the dream sequences of
Family Guy or The Simpsons. But you look at the

(14:00):
relationship he's forging with these younger players. Whatever the darkness, retreat,
change of venue, opportunity, and becoming the greatest tourist New
York and New Jersey has ever seen. All of those
things are true, But this looks like a guy that
one recognizes ham towards the end of this run. So
I gotta have some more fun before it finishes. And

(14:20):
as of right now, I've got my one super Bowl
that puts me in the company of Brad Johnson, Trent
Dilfer as great as my career is, and I'm never
going to be spoken in those terms, but on the list,
it's always going to be the guy that got one
for all the greatness, and there's gonna be a lot
of thought pieces, books and whatever else written. So I
think there's also some of that motivation of how do

(14:41):
I fully lean in to get the most out of
this squad and the relationship and all the free stuff.
I mean, come on, look at that.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Oh the.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
Necklace. Yeah, yeah, that's a big deal. I think Aaron's
playing with house money. I think obviously, us in the media,
we can look at him and we can say he
needs to do he needs to do this, he needs
to do that to be, you know, considered one of
the elites, and obviously that's always debate. I mean, as
you look at Aaron Rodgers the player, I've seen him

(15:15):
up close and personal, obviously, and you look at him
as a player, and you know how great he is, right,
We've seen that. We know that the level that he
can play at when he's playing right, others can't. There's
not there's a few that can touch that, right. So
I think he's playing with house money. He's in a

(15:36):
situation now where he's out of the shadow of Lambeaufield,
which has been the only thing he's known. It's been
a place where he's had great success. There's been as
a place where he's been revered, but it's also now,
you know, as revered as you can be at one
place for a long time, there there becomes a time
where you can be reviewed, right, And so he's at

(15:58):
he was at that point in Green it was at
the end of the time. He needs to move on
and go somewhere else. And so he's in the place
in New York where he's got all these young personalities,
all his energy, got Broadway shows, He's going to Taylor
Swifth concerts in the Garden.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
And so you get to see all.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
These things are taking place where in Lambo that definitely
wasn't the case. So he's getting this new love and
new least shung life out there in New York, and
it can be a dream. I was a full participanting
in myself.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Giving me a little bit of the stuff off the
off the record, as it were, and I just smile
like these people. But it's that the curiosity for me, right,
because when we go to the playoffs, the last couple
of years there were obvious issues that he had with
his head coach, and much like just go back to

(16:49):
the season opener last year for the Seahawks Denver game,
when they decide to go super tow and kick the
extra extra long field go instead of us, get us
the yard, go make you know, put us in position
to where this makes sense and take the ball in
his hand, much like you know Rogers against Tampa when
they took the ball out his hand. Let's kick the

(17:11):
field goals. Yeah, And he went on off the field like, No,
that's on you as much as it's on your head, coach.
There's no free pass here. You're you're not a thirty
year quarterback. Yeah, you're Aaron bleeping Rogers. You can you know,
flip him off and just get back in the huddle.
And what's he gonna do, right, I gonna come and
drag you off leg by the face mask. You saw

(17:36):
I did, coach Ditka in one of his finest roles.
But uh, and the great Robert Duvall along with Will Ferrell,
honorary Danette and extended member of the Fox Sports Radio
family for sure. But it's just a curious situation. Look
I've had to listen to it from Smith every day,
even when there wasn't a story. So uh, I've had

(17:57):
about enough. It's time to kick kick the ball off
and go play football. They are two and a half
point home dogs against Buffalo to start the season. But
the division, to me is interesting. We talked a little
bit about New England earlier because week one you've got Philadelphia,
so a great made for TV, old Super.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
Bowl moment, all of that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
But all right, we I think we can all look
at Alabama mac as he's calling himself again wow, and
that's fine. Look at you gotta get some you gotta
have some swagger, at the juice it you gotta find it.
Ryan and Kirk Cousins with the facial hair coming out
of quarterback and whatever. It's like, No, you know, my
wife may still pick my clothes, but I'm gonna do

(18:41):
something with my facial hair. You know, I am at it. Look,
I don't judge. The guy's a genius. I mean, look,
he's playing on guaranteed money, what five straight years now,
So good for him. But we look at the division,
the AFC East, and Miami's a curiosity that as we
go in and Jonathan Taylor, whatever his future becomes, they

(19:05):
were rumored to be in because you've got a couple
of running backs. You don't have the running back and
maybe a Chain is that guy, but he starts the
season hurt. The other guys are good professionals, solid running backs.
But again it owes to the Taylor conversation we had
early and show I got to listen to the whole thing.
Get the podcast wherever, podcasts, wherever you down them, give

(19:27):
us five stars.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
We'll love you forever.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
I might walk coast to coast like Forrest Gump and
give you a hug. But the idea of all right,
what are they doing to win? Like it really begins
and ends? Is too upright and able to deliver the
ball to Waddle and Tyreek Hill. Everything else is in
consequentchal Your defense on paper is going to be pretty good.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Fine.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
The Bills, I think rumors of their demise and discord
are greatly exaggerated. Either that or Stefan Diggs is one
hell of an actor. When the cameras are yeah, maybe that,
And when I hear the loudest of mouths you know
who you are out there? Uh, you know talking about
how much dysfunction there is, and and the start throwing

(20:10):
out my sources whatever. Yeah, it's always with the grain assault.
When guys are really get too loud about it, Wait.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
Who do you pick? Who do you pick? The win
at the vision?

Speaker 4 (20:19):
Then it seems like you're sticking with Buffalo. Who's second?

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Probably the Jets. They got Miami third, Miami third, and
the Patriots fourth.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
But I think the Patriots are good enough that ye like,
because the defense is always gonna be good, right, They're
gonna be in games.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
Now it's a question of it's.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
And what do you get out of DeVante Park and
all these got Mike Gisicki, the guys that you brought
up well from Miami Line and whatever else, Right, are
those guys actually gonna be able to perform? Because look
the last couple of years, and I'll argue this on
Blue in the Face, and I think I have is
that Bill Belichick has done a couple of his greatest
coaching jobs just build a GM sucks at times. That

(21:03):
makes it in grand fashion right in the It's almost
a I'm going look at the roster I'm putting together
and watch me coach the hell out of this.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
Yeah, to a five hundred record. Yeah, yeah, for sure,
because watching.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
It week to week, you're like, they should be on
the same field with these guys in terms of the numbers,
like here's your top wide receiver comparisons and whatever else.
They're so far apart, yet they're a five hundred team.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
Yeah, this is a visions gonna be tricky. I have
the Jets went in that division obviously, but.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
You got a Jets statue on you that you want
to I'm not going to tell you. I can't.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
I cannot put it out there yet, but uh, there
may be one. The back of my legs hurt, but
make sure you don't get an in fashion. You didn't
a discount place discount it's called it was called funny,
it was called discount time. But yeah, but number one Jets,
and then I think, I don't think. I think it's

(21:58):
gonna be Jets one. Also, thing is going to be
Miami second, and I think Buffalo finishes third, finishes third
in that division.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Do you buy into the disharmony? Obviously there was some
you had a new offensive coordinator, whatever, but you got
a long off season and he was still targeted one
hundred and fifty times.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Yeah, it's not trying to get him the football.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
Yeah, no, it's it becomes a point and I think
there's a level of continued success. Continue success is hard,
especially when you haven't reached that mountaintop. And so there
there's naturally going to be discourse there. It just happens, right,
So there's a level of Okay, have we reached our peak?
And we reached our peak, then individuals start looking for

(22:44):
individual things. So we go back to the conversation earlier,
like well, I want to get paid now, or I
want this touches for my incentives. I don't know what
his deals are, but all these little things. Right, So
you think winning cures that, But winning cures that only
to a point of the actual trophy.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
Getting that at the end that matters.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
And I think that's where the discourse is coming in
at and I think it will really be a detriment
to them this year.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
All right, so let's let's stay in the AFC then,
Because we we talked a little bit, uh securitously of course,
getting into some of the teams in the AFC.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
We talked about the Colts.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
We expect them probably towards the basement of football along
with the Arizona Cardinals. Sorry for your guy, but when
we look at that, I'm most intrigued. I think, you know,
the East is fun, but I'm already at that point
where with Rogers, just show me what's gonna show up

(23:43):
for seventy weeks. But the North is curious. Do I
want to talk a lot about Deshaun Watson? No, yeah,
said really it's it's gives me no great pleasure. I
love watching him play football to a point, yeah, but
then everything else is still hanging out. The Bengals, we talked.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
About Joe Burrow a little bit earlier.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
And how injured is he truly coming into the season
right kind of a big deal because the machine only
works because look, they just changed out their backup quarterback.
It was Trevor Simeon. He gone, and now you got
an unproven, untested, no snap guy behind him. So you
got that going for you. Baltimore with with Monken comes in,

(24:28):
Odell Beckham Junior. Everybody's excited to see if if he
can reclaim any bit of that star matter and Zay
Flowers comes in. Can you keep any of those running
backs healthy? I love Dobbins, I love Gus Edwards. I
don't love them for more than four game stretches at
a time.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Bateman or Mark Andrews there deep over there.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
Well, I mean, look, Andrews is just he's the only given.
But legitimately he's the only given on that squad outside
of I know what Lamar can give me. One Lamar
is healthy? Can Lamar play more than twelve.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Games this year?

Speaker 2 (25:04):
There there's your how much did he get us?

Speaker 3 (25:09):
Right? So we we look at the squad.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Yeah, Andrews that he's the Ronco you know, the old
chicken roaster machine that you set it and forget it, just.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Let it go right.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
It's just gonna do its thing like at Costco. Every
fifteen minutes, something's gonna beep and tell you to take
a rack of chickens out right, same thing. Uh, Mark
Andrews again on the field, I got no questions his
but Bateman, all these guys that they brought in, you
know they Acosta just decided, oh you want receivers, I'll
give you receivers. And he was going after everybody, right,

(25:42):
anybody that became even a whisper.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
They were available at that position. Sidet he practice squad
or is he.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Give me it's just depth, right, go all the way
down as you look at what they're bringing to the table. Uh,
it's it's an over load saying, hey, you want receivers,
We'll give you more receivers. Let's see, you got Bateman, Nelson,
Aguilar's now you still have Duverna. But I mean, but again,

(26:12):
it's all in theory. It's all in theory, right, all right,
Flowers hasn't been in the NFL yet, but and they
also changed out their trainer. But it's and people laughed
at me, and I got a lot of derision for
this because I do spots in Baltimore, but certainly here
in Los Angeles, Like the biggest moves the Chargers and

(26:33):
Ravens did was changing out their training staff. Like at
some point you just got to say, hey, this ain't working,
no matter how nice somebody, there's something wrong. And how
we're rehabbing these guys to get back on on the field.
And Bateman, like you might protest you weren't on the field,
and we can find the devil in the details, right,
go back and every sport of something that might have

(26:55):
gotten mismanaged, something that got flexed too fast in in
a rehab process and you find out in the wash,
or maybe it just got misdiagnosed. Go back to Ken
Griffy junior when he went to Cincinnati and suddenly he
was had feet and ankle issues the rest of his career. Well,
I mean it happens. But certainly for Baltimore on paper,

(27:19):
they've tried to give Lamar Jackson guys they haven't been
able to perform or stay healthy.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
Yeah, I think the Rasaw Bateman one was the one
that hurt the most and set them back the most
because he when he was healthy, you could see the potential.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
Well we watched him in college.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
Yeah, certainly that could play.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
He could play really well.

Speaker 4 (27:37):
But I think this year they actually have depth now,
so again, if one of those guys go down, maybe two,
they still got guys that can come in and produce
for them. Now, where the cupboard was pretty bare a
couple of years ago, where you had a couple of
top end guys that could help them, they were hurt
and then the rest was just like we can't win

(27:57):
with this. But now they actually have depth and again
you got Lakwan tread will tread well on your practice squad. Now,
So in theory, you got guys who can even be
called up to come and help your team play, So
that helps.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
But again in theory, because there's a guy with a
first round draft, not first round production.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
Yeah, I mean he's he's on the bottom of all
of this.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
The idea is, you know, you had to cost to
get a little bit chesty talking about injuries, health, whatever,
and players clap back. So what did he do? He
signed everybody he possibly could. Yeah right, I mean how
many times did you see DeAndre Hopkins photoshopped into a
Ravens jersey before? Oh yeah, before he ended up? Uh
and DeAndre too, yeah? Yeah, So just keep going on

(28:43):
down the line. He's carry Rhodes in for Jason Smith.
I'm Mike Harmon here. At the end of your first year,
discover credit cards automatically double all the cash back you've earned.
That right, everything you've earned doubled. Seriously see terms. Check
it out for yourself at discovered dot com, slash match
fin carry on Twitter at Carrie twenty five roads, find
me over at Swollen Dome and coming up next. Yeah,

(29:05):
we're gonna close out the week with a volleyball story.
And it's not about ninety two thousand Gable. No, it's
about cash money and a gambling circle that got busted up.
But we'll talk about that in a moment. First, to
recap a busy night in Major League Baseball and college football,
including the victory for your squad, Carry Roads. Yes, it's

(29:26):
our guy, Steve Desager.

Speaker 6 (29:27):
And the match at the US Open is over after
what one thirty in the morning, no value. Djokovic dropped
the first two sets, but then won the next three
to beat a fellow Serbian player. He advanced his number
four seat on the lady side Atlanta rebuk and a loss,
but American Cocoa Golf one tonight in three sets, six love,
and the third This morning at Basketball's World Cup, the

(29:49):
US came back to beat Montenegro eighty five seventy three.
The Americans were down one at halftime. The US, with
under three minutes left, led by four points, and then
the Lakers Austin Reeves made a Keith three pointer. Anthony
Edwards was scoreless in the first half, zero five from
the floor, but at seventeen points in the second half.
Sunday four and oh Team USA faces four in oh

(30:10):
Lithuania and the second round. After that, the quarterfinals and
both teams will qualify regardless of Sunday. Brazil defeated Canada
sixty nine sixty five, despite twenty three points in the
loss from Shay Gilgis Alexander latviups at Spain. Italy edged
Serbia by two, Puerto Rico over the Dominican Republic one
oh two ninety seven, Carl Anthony Towns thirty nine points

(30:32):
in the loss, and Slovenia got Luka Donsich's nineteen points
in a win over Australia ninety one eighty Donsich six assists,
six turnovers. The Atlantic Coast Conference is adding Stanford, Cal
and SMU starting next year in all sports. The ACC
got the minimum vote needed to pass twelve to three.
The new schools won't get full revenue shares. Stanford and

(30:54):
Cal start with thirty percent payouts for seven years. Stanford
has the late football game tonight, now leading twenty seven
to ten at Hawaii late third quarter, Louisville trailed at
the hat but still beat Georgia Tech thirty nine thirty four.
Georgia Tech went zero for two on field goal attempts
at Miami of Florida, Hurricanes led at the half sixteen
to three.

Speaker 7 (31:13):
Final was thirty eight three over Miami Ohio on FS
one at Michigan State, slow start for the Spartans ten
to seven a half time lead. Michigan State beat Central
Michigan thirty one seven. Central Michigan punted nine times in
that game. Kansas forty eight to seventeen over Missouri State.
Kansas quarterback Jalen Daniels was out he'd had a bad
back that cost him practice time. The first Big Saturday

(31:35):
of college football will have Colorado at TCU on Fox TV.
Seahawks safety Jamal Adams will miss the season opener with
a quad injury, and first round defensive back Devin Witherspoon
is likely out with a hamstring injury. The late ballgame
in La went to the Braves, of course, they've won
five in a row. Beat the Dodgers six to three,
hit three home runs off the losing pitcher, Julio Arius.

(31:56):
Ronald Dcunya with his thirty first of the year. Arizona
four or two over Baltimore, while San Diego beat San
Francisco seven to three. The Giants now tied with Arizona
for the final NL wildcard spot. The Orioles are first
in the Al still a game and a half over
Tampa Bay, which lost its contest three to two at Cleveland.
Minnesota was a five to one winner at Texas. The

(32:18):
Yankees young Jason Dominguez homered in his first major league
at bat, and it was off losing pitcher Justin Verlander
six to two. Yanks won at Houston. Verlander gave up
four home runs in his six innings. The Houston offense
only had four hits. Milwaukee scored four runs in the
bottom of the eighth to beat Philadelphia seven to five.
Three of those late runs were on a third baseman's error.

(32:38):
Toronto won at Colorado thirteen to nine. Mets over Seattle
two to run run on the bottom of the eighth there,
Miami in eleven innings, got a victory at Washington eight
to five, and the Cubs in Reds split a doubleheader
of the Cubs. Cody Bellinger hit a home run in
each game. He's batting three twenty this year.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
Back to you, Thanks so much, Steve, appreciate you being
with us tonight. Patrick and Chris making a sound oh
so pretty and uh, then I might actually know what
I'm doing. Mike Harmon alongside Carrie Rhodes here at the
Jason Smith Show with me Mike Carmon on Fox Sports Radio.
And it's always cool that we're this laid out of
Friday night and you still have live sporting events being played, right,

(33:17):
Tennis just finishes. Yeah, And one thing, I mean, it
is the city that never sleeps, so that's okay. But
the fact that we still have college football in Stanford,
Hawaii getting after it. It's about as good as it gets.
And we're gonna have the Play of the Night coming
up next and again a volleyball story. Yeah, the ninety
two thousand was cool.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
This takes it to the other side, to the dark
side of the court, and we'll do that next year
on Fox.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
Darks.

Speaker 5 (33:46):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

nine thirty four over Georgia Tech, holding the Rambling Wreck
to six points in the second half.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
Beautiful sound right. Halftime adjustments, Ah.

Speaker 4 (35:44):
Man, you had to you know, the come to Jesus moment,
you know at the end there, I'm sure at halftime
where Brom got the guys ready to go, fired him
up and they came out executed a totally different game
plan in the second half. Looked like the team that
was pre to win every game they had this year
on their schedule. So, you know, not the you know,

(36:06):
it was probably an ugly win, but you take the
win in college football, so the old rule of thumb.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
Man, look, winning ugly is not just for the nineteen
eighty three White Soxe. No, I mean that was their
slogan and then they went and got beaten down by
the eventual champion Orioles in the playoffs. But like however,
you win, right, it's it doesn't have to be pretty.
And we watch all sorts in every sport, but certainly

(36:32):
in football. Yeah, man, it's a game of inches. One
big play. I mean, look at the we referenced it
a couple of times. We're watching the highlights, right, and
the countdowns or whatever. Go back to that play in
the Nebraska Minnesota game. Right, Like, on first glance, most
folks thought, ah, that's an incomplete pass. Like no, no,
no referees on it. The pellets are.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
Up, you move on.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
But I mean where that quarterback through the ball. I
mean it looks like a beautiful catch, a beautiful throw
and catch. But all we all saw what we saw,
and you go through. And for Louisville you got a
transfer quarterback.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
And Plumber, Yeah, Plumber, and.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Yep, that you're trying to bring on. And in the
second half he came to play.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
He looked better. First half, he look and that defense
got after it.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
The defense got up there first and foremost, yes, Plumber
came out and definitely settled down and played better as
the game went on. First half, he looked really shell shocked,
and you know, it looked like there was gonna have
to be a change made. But obviously he figured it
out at halftime, came out, played like a veteran, played
like the guy in Cal last year who had a
really good season and turned the game around.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
Then Louisville.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
Louisville came out on top, and I thought, I want to.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
Know, baby, get the victory. We don't want to know today.
That's all all it's all about. But yeah, full slate tomorrow.
Chris Plank's coming up in about ten minutes. You know,
he covers Oklahoma and lots of loves his college football,
so a lot of that. He's in for Bernie Frattle tonight.
I can't wait to listen to that on the car
ride home. And he's got full reign because I don't

(38:04):
think he's bringing Arnie Spaniard with him unless spani yourd
hacks into one of the lines, which he might do.
You never can tell. Ye late late night in Vermont
to get those extra picks in now. One I wanted
to get to because we talked about volleyball a lot
earlier this week Nebraska and the ninety two thousand and
three people that attended, and go, wow, that is that's

(38:25):
next level stuff. Originally I'm like, all right, what other
events are attached? Like, No, just the volleyball game, next
level stuff for the multi time champion. Well, now, you
had a sprawling backyard volleyball set up that was in
this town in Massachusetts, and they found two full size
paved courts. You got picnic tables, concession stand, fried food, booge.

(38:49):
Look Getty Street in Los Angeles, except for the courts
right on Eddie Street corner, there's now pop up tents
and people cooking anything you might want to. I don't
know that they get it investigated or analyzed by health departments,
but you know what, hey, I like the enterprising nature
of it. I'm always conflicted on that. But to that point,
they've got all of this going on, and it turned

(39:10):
out that it was a gambling ring, so everybody was
gathering and you basically add an outdoor casino. There's ore
they placed bets on who would win number of points scored,
and meanwhile you had poker and other card games going
on on the side.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
Did you have the people coming by the massage you
as well? That I do not know that.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
I mean it is laid out of Friday for sure.
Well they didn't include this. It is, you know, on
the on the website. Maybe they decided not to add
those details. But they said they seized over ten thousand
dollars in cash and they arrested a couple of suspects
after the neighbors complained about the traffic patterns and things
being clogged in their.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
Neighborhood created the ring.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
No, and that's just there's no there's no names.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
Nobody's on front street.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
You don't have that but that. They say they had
roughly one hundred gamblers nightly betting on these six six
on six volleyball matches, but also all the extra action
in card games and such.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
Okay, I was about to say, you have to be
a very hard sale to get me there to start
gambling on volleyball.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
Dude. People will bet on anything.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
I've noticed, and I see, but I mean, fuck, it
is wow, it's always been there.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
That's man.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
We were doing parlay cards as kids.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
We shouldn't have been.

Speaker 4 (40:28):
No, I get the back of bars. Yeah, but do
you really know who's gonna win this bike?

Speaker 2 (40:35):
A lot of people go to horse trays. He looks hungry,
that's right, all right, he just did what he needed
to do. He's two pounds leg.

Speaker 3 (40:42):
We're just trying to get out the house. You're trying
to get the house. No, that's just dead.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
I'm just gonna go watch it guy. And maybe you're
hoping a fight breaks out for sure, maybe you're getting
ready to start one.

Speaker 4 (40:50):
If you lose the last ten dollars on volleyball match.
You deserve to fight and you never talk about fight club.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
