Tirec dot com the way tire buying should be now
as we get set for the first game in the
NFL season on Thursday, let me help everybody right now
where wherever you are, coast to coast. Hang on, Travis
Kelsey got hurt. Okay, tension breaker had to be done.
(01:08):
Now he can deal with it.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
You can never draft for a fantasy team within twenty
four hours of a kickoff.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Again, It's tough it's hard, you know, Hey, I wait
and I go all, I go late, I go so late. Yeah,
all the live man I would not have drafted him
is high. I just had to do the draft two
hours later. I wouldn't have drafted him.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
It's funny. We just recorded some my watch Flex podcast
work talking about that very topic of Hey, let's introduce
you to some backup tight ends. You had no idea
existed because you drafted Kelsey and no one else at
the position. But yeah, chaos coming in big order, right.
We got all of our holdouts and still wondering what's
(01:48):
going on there Mike Evans and the deadline? Will he
get delts? Will they sign a new deal? Will they
just tell him the pound sand and come to work?
All of those things, and you're just waiting and hacing
the hallways, waiting on the jets just when it all
comes together. I'm just wait. I love that in this fint.
I'm okay waiting. I'm okay waiting. I'm okay waiting because
(02:08):
it's gonna be glorious. Because I told you we're gonna
smash the bills on Monday night.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
We're gonna smash them, and it's gonna be so great
and hopefully the you know, the twenty million people who
want to watch the game, are gonna be able to
get spectrum be able to watch that on Monday, because
that's gonna be a big thing.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Oh, I mean, there are sandwiches on the line for
that game. Yeah. By the way, the Jets two and
a half point dogs in that one. But yeah, you're
gonna smash the massive sandwiches on the line as well
as bragging rights. And let's face it, the tone and
tenor of this show will really be affected and Monday night.
I mean, look, you want to talk about companion broadcasting,
(02:48):
you turn down those guys that are broadcasting over there,
you know those guys, and you turn it up here
because you're getting better coverage. Yeah here on Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
And you know you'll get that. There's no carriage. There's
no carriage issue on no carriage.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
iHeartRadio app, download it, tell your friends and evangelize.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
It's just gonna be Jets, Jets, Jets, Jets, Jets, Jet.
But but we have time for the Jets.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Travis Kelcey, the best tight end in the National Football League,
getting set for the Chiefs game Thursday against the Lions.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Has a knee injury. Yes, he does.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Suffered at practice earlier in the day. It looked like
he just came down awkward, potentially a hyper extended knee.
He walked off the field under his own power, so
that's good. A test on his ACL showed that it
is intact. This according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. So now
the question is is he going to play Thursday? Is
(03:47):
he going to play early in the season? Hyper extended knee?
Speaker 2 (03:50):
You think that?
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Okay, potentially he might miss a couple of weeks. His
ACL is intact, which is the best news obviously, But
right now, it's gonna be hard for me to see
him playing on three. You have this injury two days before,
you've just done a test. Okay, your a cl is intact.
That's gonna be really difficult to say. Okay, let's put
you out there Thursday night. This is where the Chiefs
are going. Do we have to play Thursday? We could
(04:12):
have played Sunday? Why don't Why? Why cause we're the champions?
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Right?
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Okay, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, But.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
It's gonna be really hard for me to see Travis
Kelcey out there on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Well, the key is the The latest headline that I'd
seen going across ESPN and others was from Schefter saying
they believe his a cl is intact, which is a
whole other can of worms. Right, we believe it to
be intac Look, you're playing for Vegas, right, You're playing
for the Super Bowl. You're not playing to win Week one.
As much as people want to make this some preview
(04:44):
of the Skies opening in the Battle of the Gods
between the Chiefs and the Lions.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
No, no, Aaron Rodgers is not in that conversation anywhere.
So it's not this is a I'm not.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Gonna stab you with the varsity games, junior arsity game
on This may be the fresh sending Super Bowl champion
now relegated to the freshman. This may be the freshman
game Jones at three.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
That's the freshman game. Okay, what about the jv game.
JV is Friday four o'clock at the field. Varsity Friday
night eight o'clock.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
The lights, all of the local town freshman chops are
shut Downman game gone to the game.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Freshman game on Thursday, Varsity game Monday night, Jens Jets. No,
but really, the thing that I take away from this
other than in fantasy, this is why you draft two
tight ends. But I don't want to dread for the
tight end. Okay, let everybody else do it, and then
if something happens to your tight end, oh man, you're stuck.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
But the biggest thing here is that depending.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
How long he is out and Travis Kelcey were hoping
he comes back soon. The best tight end in the NFL,
best tight end in the last five years, guys going
to the Hall of Fame. Uh Patrick Mahomes has had
to play a grand total of one game without Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
One game without Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
All of the success, everything has not had to play
more than one game without Travis Kelcey. Travis Kelcey has
been very, very healthy for the vast majority.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Of his career. It wasn't something taking him out of
a lineup, right, Yes.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Now, who's the one guy in Mahomes in the first
half of Mahomes' career, We're getting We're probably at Mahomes
is at the midway point of his career.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
You want to say, getting close to.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
It now if Aaron Rodgers is still but he's closer
to them, He's had enough. He's had enough of It's
just a question of how big is the middle. He's
never had to play without Travis Kelcey of all the
receivers that Mahomes his hat. Well, how do you replaced
Tyreek Hill? They replaced Tyree Kill pretty good. Who'd you
(06:46):
replace Tyreek Hill with?
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Nobody?
Speaker 1 (06:47):
We just throw a bunch of guys out there, and
they changed from your Super Bowl. Maybe it's Juju Smith Schuster,
Maybe it's Rushie Rice, Maybe it's Kidarious time.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
They're trying to be the most giving organization saying, you
know what, you can come here. Those guys got rings.
Let's give some other people a chance.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Maybe it's justin Ross. But all through it, Kelsey has
been the common denominator. Right, we thought it was Tyreek Kill.
And look, Tyreek Kill is still a phenomenal wide receiver.
She he's doing in Miami with a quarterback they can't
throw the ball more than eight yards in the air,
and he's still putting up big numbers. But now you
(07:28):
have Mahomes who potentially could be without Kelsey for a
little while. That's the biggest part to me. I want
to see, is Mahobes still Mahobes without Kelsey in the
middle of the field, because we've seen him be Mahobes
without the other wide receivers, no matter who it was, Hey,
Tyreek kill all the other guys, makes no difference. But
(07:48):
is he still the same guy when Kelsey Man? I
can't believe Kelsey's open on that third doubt man. Kelsey
had that same route perfect man, Kelsey went between those
two guys and got that ball. That's the most interesting
thing to me is if he's out a while, is
Mahomes still Mahomes? Is Mahomes still greatest quarterback in the NFL?
Is he still this great? Is he still don't punch
(08:09):
me to don't touch me? Hey, I just want to
tell you, none of this is anybody. No, nobody's fault
in my orbit, right, this is just just happened on
the field, right, nobody's fault? Is this?
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Is he still the same guy? That's the biggest question. Well, sure,
and we've talked about it a lot. The rest of
it's interchangeable running backs. Next guy up right, Clyde Edwards.
Hilaire couldn't be winning the job. Keep the job, Isaiah
pa Checka. Your seventh round guy, come on in. It'll work,
but you can't. Eighty seven priest homes will get the
job back. He might come back all these years later.
(08:39):
You don't know. But the wide receiving Corps pick your
poison on a week to week basis, right. We got
a bunch of teams. As you look at the twenty
twenty three season going, they might have a bunch of guys,
but we don't know who the guy is except the
tight end. Right, look at Baltimore, a bunch of guys.
RK Andrews, Mark Andrews isn't on the field. Everything goes
to hell. Same thing here. How much of the safety valve,
(09:04):
how much of all right I can put it in
his general direction? He's going to find a space like
Brady did with Gronkowski for all those years. It didn't
mean that the other guys Edelman and Welker and whatever
didn't have their moments and then the Randy moss Hears
or a whole other thing. But when Gronk was hurt
and not available, the entire offense had to shift. Right Now,
(09:24):
a lot more screen passes, whatever. So that's the creativity here,
So is it? Pacheco and Jack McKinnon touches the ball
what twelve times? Right, A lot of dump offs out
of the battlefield, a lot of him lining up in
the slot and trying to get creative that way. So
it's just moved the chains and then occasionally take the
big top off the defense. But yeah, this is really
(09:46):
going to be an interesting experiment, right, and the enemy's
not there either, right, So now it's a different you know,
offensive rooms. You know, take nothing away from the guys
that have been there in the continuity, but it's a
new look. So I I'm intrigued. Yeah, Thursday night, all
of a sudden got that much more interesting.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Well, I know how Andy Reid can fix all this?
How's that just called Deon Sanders?
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Hey? Fake? What do I do? Dude? What do I do?
Speaker 1 (10:12):
I gotta I want to put an all new guys
on offense.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
How do I do it? How do I? First?
Speaker 1 (10:16):
You hire Sean Lewis? How's that flash fast off?
Speaker 2 (10:19):
You hire Sean Lewis? A name that didn't get mentioned
nearly enough in anybody's rhetoric over the last seventy two hours. Right,
it's been Dion Is not bugs, Bunny against the gas
house Gorilla. Okay, So everybody doing the let's bow to
the altar of Dion. There's other guys on that staff
and take their work and have to make it work.
(10:41):
Ain't running and calling up plays.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Deon's bringing all those dudes in. Everybody in. Dion's bringing
everybody in. Hey, this is what we're sometimes that's coaching.
Oh you're good.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
I like you. You have a system. Let's go. I
know the guys. I know the guys.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
It purposefully. No, I have said, well that's my it's
my obad to Gilbrand, I have assist. You don't have assistant,
So you have to have assist. Other guys have some
work here. You have to have assist on some stuffs.
The head coach, so I mean, you know, he.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Doesn't get.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Andy Reid calls Deon Sanders. Dion says, this is what
you do. You could take Travis Hunter when he'll play
tight end and defensive bag for you.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
It will be fine. You have a linebacker that you
can line up as a tight end in play some
Travis or who is that?
Speaker 1 (11:27):
How much? How much? How much do you think If
the first thing is that, yes, I'm being serious. If
Andy Reid did call and say, hey, I need to
do some stuff?
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Can you give me?
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Let's just say there was a world where Dion could
share players and everything with with with with Kansas City.
If Andy Reid called up and said, you know what
he got what he got to need some stuff and
missing the tight and myster he goes, how how sold
are you on that, Mahomes? Because my kid is really good?
I mean, my kid is really I mean she door
could come right right in there. You can spread the
ball around a little bit. Now, let's say you just
(11:56):
watch it five hundred and ten yards in his first
big D one game. I mean, I'm just saying, I
know he's good. I always won super Bowls, But how
much do you like him? Because you know, my kid
is pretty good. My kid's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
That's changing the program that you're trying to brok her here,
But it is.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
I don't expect I don't expect there to be I
don't expect there to be a big drop off if
Kelsey is not on the field.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
But if this, if.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
This turns into the Super Bowl against the Tampa Bay Bucks,
where suddenly, hey, we can't get the ball down field. Suddenly,
that changes your impression of Mahomes a little bit. Of okay,
he's just oh wait a minute, but he's had this
guy for his whole time. My only fear is that's
is the offensive coordinator. That should always be your fear.
That should that should always in.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
A while that was realized as a head coach. That
should always begg is around players and influencing them on
a field. That should always There's never a ton I
want my dollar, But how was that? How is that
not a fear? How is that? How is that never not?
But we just have to put it out there for
folks that don't rea the absence of the enemy. Matt
Naggy is the guy holding the title of OC tonight shoe.

The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
coming up next. Speaking of Dion Sanders, another interesting day
for the Colorado head Coach. And I'll tell you the
(13:43):
one fear I have for Colorado going forward, and it's
not gonna be what you say.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Someone's gonna stay at true to the run and keep
running up the gun Shador Sanders goes to Kansas City
and plays on Thursday. What is that bit?
Speaker 1 (13:57):
We get to that coming up next right here, Jason
and Mike.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Would be sure to catch live editions of The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Taking it back to nineteen ninety four, ninety three, ninety two,
ninety two, Cuts Like a Knife ninety two, I Believe
ninety two, ninety two.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Beck, you know I remember going eight eighty three Buddy
eighty three, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, obvious eighty three, yes, yes,
yes bye. By the early nineties he was in the
All for Love thing. Yeah, well, he was in everything
I do, I do for you. I thought this outside
Cuts Like a Knife eighty three Reckless eighty one, eighty one,
Reckless eighty three. I don't have the full discography up.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
That might be might be eighty five for Reckless because
we have a very special guest DJ in tonight, Johnny Ramos,
who has never seen Fox Sports Radio past seven o'clock.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
It's promost after dark here is it dark outside? Guys? Yes,
this is fine, Old Josh. It's a pleasure. It's a
pleasure to be here, really is.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
I'm just talking to Mike here in the studio, and
I've never done your Guys show, your own show, so
it's kind of fun to be in here and kind
of see what it's like. It's interesting.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Why did you look at you him and you said
I was talking to and then you said Mike, Oh, no,
I was.
Speaker 5 (15:20):
I was just looking down at I'm trying to gather
my thoughts.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Yeah, his handwritten on your dad.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
This is what life is like after seven o'clock at night.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
I know, I know during the day when you walk in, Oh,
it's great, and there's food.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Here all the time.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
There's all kinds of stuff going on, and yeah, it's
you hanging out with Gottlieb and Coveno and Rich and everybody.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Oh yeah, yeah, this is great. Yeah, I'll be I'm
me No, this is this is nighttime. This is welcome
to the dark house. Thank you. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
But really, I mean, are you gonna be okay? Like
can you drive home at night? Because yeah, I worry
about my dad, Like after nine o'clock you're older than
Joan is gonna be okay? He hasn't been here past
seven o'clock.
Speaker 5 (16:02):
He is to I just have him reading glasses. I
can drive at night without glasses.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
I'm worried.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
He's like a reverse vampire on the daytime is but
you get to the night time and maybe he's no
powers anymore.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
I appreciate that though.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Also, and also I don't know how how quote super
legal it is from. This is like a forty four
hour shift for John Ramos. I mean, look, he started.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Earlier marathons on the radio, right that fundraising, okay, and
awareness and everything. Right now it's the John Ramos Brian Adamskay, awareness,
I want to make sure you're good cuts like and
not all right tomorrow he'll be sitting on top of
a big uh. I get a metal block. What's the
big side donuts. No, no, no donut now like a
(16:48):
big billboards. I'm gonna be on the billboard. I got
a hunger strike until the Rams win a game, exactly
exactly there. I'll be up here till the Rams win
a game. See see what I did? And that could
be because John is a Rams fan. I know this year.
I gotta tell you. Don't do that, Johnny Ramos. She'll
be up send you, give you sandwiches and care packages
week week seventies there going by four it is blistering
(17:12):
and Stetson Bennet is starting. This is the worst seven
week run of my life ever.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
Remember Jason and Mike the Rams. Do you have the
Cardinals twice during the season.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Who's gonna try to lose more? That's a good point.
The Tank Bowl is gonna be fantastic. But who are
they taking for seven? You're you're taking for Shdar Sanders
or Travis Hunter. Okay now, but welcome Johnny Ramos. Welcome,
Glad you're here. Glad you're he's I'll tell.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
You I worry about it at night. Now I talk,
I worry about it, but night, Uh.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Today we saw the fruits. Anytime you get to see
the fruits of your labor comes through. It's always a
big day. And Colorado got to see that today. We
talked about Colorado last night and congratulates everybody who took that.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Take.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
Look, Colorado's become the only story in college football. They
become a national story.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Taken very upset dabos between him and Brian Kelly. Come on,
will talk about you the stories ever?
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Yeah, those guys losing opening we Duke is now a
football Damn holiday. It's okay, Duke is a football school.
I had to go check my I'm going to check
my schedule going Syracuse. Do we have to play Duke
this year? Okay, we don't have to play Duke. All right,
We're good. We're good. We're good. Usually say that for basketball.
We plably plan to play Duke this year once twice.
All right, Chris, take care of the ball and the Reds.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Yeah, just fine.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Who We're avoiding Duke on our schedule.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Things.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
I didn't think i'd say after that, But Deon Sanders
talked today after the college football polls came out, the
AP Poll and the Coaches poll. Colorado is twenty two
and twenty five in each of those poles. Respectively, and
Dion talked about having to win and the only way
we'll get respect.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Is to win.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
And you know, did a lot of Deon Sanders type
talk today following their debut of the poll. It was
just not even what was it eight months ago? They
were finishing up a one win season, and it was
what was happening? And now here's what Dion has done.
In one week. Colorado goes to being ranked where they
were a team that was in the bottom of the
bower for the longest time. Now, I'll tell you one
(19:15):
thing that Dion has done, and this is this is now,
this isn't gonna be the fun part because Dion is
now going to start a lot of copycats because this
is something that we've never seen done before in college football,
because college football it's not an add water stir and hey,
instant team, right, you don't see that. Sometimes you say, well,
we need another year, coach, You've had eight years, you
(19:36):
haven't had one winning season.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
We're just about to turn it around.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
We just get into an area recruiting wise, and been
trying to get into for a while. He's done something
that no one has ever thought was possible or accomplished
before bringing in eighty seven new players, new systems, knew
everything and go out and show that, hey, we can
give you results right away.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
Now, how good is TCU. That's that remains to be seen.
Number seventeen, we're in the title game, all of that stuff.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
A lot of their best players are in the NFL now,
so they are, but here they are big game, hostile environment.
They go out and they win a big game. Now
you are going to see other schools say, hey, we're
gonna take advantage of all of this, let's spend a
lot of money to go get that magnetic coach that
we want to.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Think about it. They had to do some finaggling when
they offered him his deal, right, it's like, we're gonna
go find the money now, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
It's this is the template for the new tread. You
go out and get that coach you want, because now
you can just say, I don't care if you have
a contract. We're over spending.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Toget. You were going to give you one hundred and
twenty million dollars whatever it is. We've seen that.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Now you're going to pay you huge for the new
head coach. Bring it whoever you want. You want to
let these guys stay on scholarship. Great, you want to
let them go, let them go, whatever you want to do,
whatever you want to do, go do it. Now you're
going to see so many other schools, big schools, say, well,
it worked with Dion, Let's have it work with somebody else. Now,
we got to make sure it's somebody that comes in
that has a grasp of the current situation of college football.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
And this is where Dion.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Is kind of a unicorn because he's the guy right
now that has his finger on the pulse of nil
and transfer portal and being able to recruit guys and
recruit dudes to come in come play for me company.
There's nobody who's a better recruiter right now in college
football than Deon Sanders, nobody. So he's gonna So they're
gonna other schools are gonna start this whole big copycat
(21:17):
We're gonna try it here, We're gonna try it. Say
at UCLA, We're gonna try at Oregon State, We're gonna
try it. I'm just throwing out schools.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Docu.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Obviously, Juan was pretty good, but other schools are gonna
try this, and what they're going to realize is that, Oh,
we need that coach that's gonna bring the dudes in.
And how many coaches bring dudes in? Not even Brian
Kelly brings dudes in. Lincoln Riley brought dudes in. Okay,
we saw that, but not like this, bring any defense,
not like this. Well he's only an offensive coach, doesn't matter.
(21:44):
Only coaches that offense, oskay, but he brought dudes in. Right,
you saw dudes came in. Hey, we want to go
play for you in that offense. But here, but Deion Sanders,
everybody wants to go play for He can get any
recruit in the country, five.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Star, four star players, right they are?
Speaker 1 (22:01):
You said buddy guy, he recruited buddy guy. You just
said buddy guy. Yeah, buddy guy. But guy, look, imagine
Chicaga life. Nobody else is going to be able to
do what he does. You're gonna see copycats, but no
one's gonna be able to do this. He He's the unicorn.
Right now, we've talked about you were talking unicorns and no, no,
de Odd's the new unicorn.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Yeah. When we break this all down and what's transformed,
we talked about it a lot, right, the optics. You
didn't like the optics of what he did with the
the kids and what went public in terms of saying, hey,
you're all gonna get up out of here, uh hit
the portal and everything else. I like the the brashness
(22:38):
and the honesty of it. And that's the guy we've
known since he came into our existence back at Florida State,
right when he was on the campus at Tallahassee. It's
the same guy, same guy that dump water over Tim mcgaroth.
So he's got very thin skin, so he's gonna hear
and you know, the antenna's up for everything. You saw
what he did to Ed Werder, you know with this
(22:58):
bull joke, didn't write anything, He had a tweet tweet.
He became the guy knows what sells. You knows, no,
but that's the thing, right you want to talk about
And look, this will become front page news for him.
It's like, you know, he's p T. Barnum And now
it's like what's behind the curtain? And we saw week one.
Is Travis Hunter gonna be able to do this for
(23:20):
six weeks? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (23:21):
No, I'm full on, no, I'm just seeing that could
be a whole thing. Dion is pt Barnum and all the.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Players come in doing all these crazy things. Yeah, I
kind of kind of that's an idea for college football,
open for the big News. If we could feed it
through AI and get that created before the night big
dude kickoff. Uh No, But but to that point, right,
the recruiting part was all you're always gonna have the
end because mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, anybody else
(23:50):
that that's been around a minute knows who he is.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
No, you go play for Dion, but I like, I
don't care, Okay, but then.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
You get to go see it live and in the
in color of how much fun these kids has. Yeah,
the speed with which they play, what Lewis has on
the offense, and the accuracy of Sanders, well you won't
get to play with him because he'll be in the NFL.
But the idea of this offense that's gonna be fast paced.
We're gonna put up points, you're gonna have fun, you're
gonna get your touches, and you're gonna be on national
(24:21):
TV every damn week. Every week is going to be
a showcase for you to go make money. And I
l go all this, all of that's there.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
I mean, you saw it after the game, like ASDA
was sagging, every TCU player ran over to try to
get it. You know, I gotta get out. Last year
was great Max Dougan and Quentin Johnson. He's gonna get
anybody wants, right, anybody wants.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
But as long as the success on the field, and
Bucky Brooks and I talked about this a little bit
Sunday morning, is you know once you show that, yeah,
there's winning that comes with it. All the other stuff
is already there, the recruiting part because he's gonna win
you over, no question about it. He's going to be
straight with you because right we saw that brutally with people.
(25:13):
Uh yeah, is he going to be brash and is
he going to take everything as a slight? Oh? The
great ones generally do right, Generally that find a way
to push it.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
But but you know, but you say that, and that
gets to this is my only feel or the one
issue I see for Colorado because they've I don't think
anybody thought Dion was going to fail. It was just
is he going to succeed this quickly? Because I've never
seen it before, how fast they've arrived earlier. The the
only issue that he's going to have and trust me
on this, because this is going to be It doesn't
(25:44):
matter what kind of coach you are, is that you
can't coach every week like it's the super Bowl, right
and and that's the thing, and that's what that's my
one concern for Colorado and Dion is that every week
is so full of emotion. It's so fun of everybody
is disrespecting us. It's so full of we got to
get out there and go kick ass. It's full of
(26:05):
every other team going, we are gonna give you our
bleep and best you think you're you're gonna come in
here and just knock us off and act like we're
just a supporting act in your in your game. We
don't like you, our coaches don't like you. It's really
hard and Dion's not gonna be able to get away
from it because this is who he is. You know,
I watched it with Rex Ryan with the Jets, is
that he treated every week like it was a super Bowl.
(26:27):
And when you lose a game, it's like losing three
games and that winds up, and that winds up cascading downhill.
College football, you can play with more emotion, but this
is now college football's become a fourteen to fifteen weeks
no longer eleven weeks, and then we go, this is
a long time, and you're spread out a long time.
If you play every week like it's the national championship.
(26:48):
Eventually it's too much for your players and they break.
You need some kind of workman like ways. Let's stay
down to business. Let's not worry about everything else going
on outside. But that's not Dean, And that's why my
concern is because he's always going to talk, and if
three days go by, it no one sees, go, I'm
gonna say something outlandish because no one said anything about
me in three days.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Well that's my one concern. But there's the thing, right,
is that you know the reason that folks were asking
how long can this take? Like we all were at
rapt attention right front of our seats. All right, let's
see how this works. Right, It's like Otani and the
unicorn status in baseball, as you refer to before or
(27:28):
Hunter now playing both both ways things you haven't seen
in either a very long time or ever. Can you
keep the energy up or you only singing when you're winning?
Because remember, the more you the journalists and in our business,
I kind of there's capital j's for a few guys
and everybody else is a small J. Because it's somewhere
(27:50):
in between that the poison pens are going to be
ready should things turn on your squad, the more chesty
you get and the more you try to say, are
you a belief and try to say, hey, be a
cheerleader and recognize it's it's it's one game and it
was an impressive game. Nobody can take that away from you.
But it's not a season, right. This now has to
(28:12):
hold up over the course of time. Do you think
the guys in the TCU locker room after that game
looked at each other said how dumb were we trying
to get in a shootout with these guys when we
know they only have so much depth on their offensive
and defensive lines. But yes, let's go try to match
them big play for big play. They played Nebraska on Saturday,
(28:34):
Nebraska Nebraska's only score. The only score was not a
botch trick play, but they played Nebraska on Saturday. That
rule is probably gonna get his ass.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Kim you get on Saturday night, that's it.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
I'm done.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
I'm going to high school, so you get to do that.
I can't couldn't do it in the pros. I can't
do it back in college. I'm going to a high
level high school like second week.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Okay, that can work, But again the battle of attrition,
and again for Travis Hunter, over the course of a season,
can you do one hundred and twenty snaps a week? Look,
we're all curious, and nobody's rooting against any of it,
right because it's a curiosity, Like nobody's your enemy here.
But we're not gonna sit there with Colorado palm bombs either,
(29:16):
while some are and you've you've watched them over the
last seventy two to ninety six.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Hours Twitter, and how about a Fresco might get swollen

(29:41):
play every week like it's the national should go talk
to Rex now a guy who treats every update like
it is the Super Bowl, and rightfully, let's go because
he begins with big wins by the Mets. It's Kevin
wan wins Well.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
I mean, if you count teams that are basically out
of the playoff push as a big win.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
There's a you know, sometimes the battle for first place
is just as important as the battle to stay out
of last place.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Hey, ay, every day you try to go one to
know in your life and on the field, and all
that matters is that day, Kevin Well, they did beat
a team that's worse than them. For all it's worth,
national and you beat the Nationals eleven to five. And
the other New York team also won as well, five
to one win Yankees over the Tigers. The story of
the night in Major League Baseball the Astros beating the
(30:25):
Rangers fourteen to one. Jose L Twove had three home
runs in his first three at bats and counting the
at bat his last at bat in the game last night,
hit four home runs in a row, eventually went three
for five before he was taken out of the game,
getting Astros leading the Rangers fourteen to one. No word
on whether Electric buzzers or trash cans were involved. Wow,
look at that. The Cubs leading the Giants eleven to seven.
(30:48):
They're trying to keep pace with the Milwaukee Brewers because
they beat the Pirates earlier. Tonight, Red Sox trailing the Rays.
It's eight to six. They're an extra innings the bottom
of the eleventh, so it looks like the Rays have
just won that one yepuh walk off home run therefore
the Tampa Bay Rays. Other scores from around Major League
(31:09):
Baseball the Orioles leaving the Angels to nothing, as the
Halos without Showyotani. Rocky's leading the Diamondbacks two one, Blue
Jays and Athletics are scoreless. Padres leading the Phillies one
to nothing. The Chiefs are in some trouble ahead of
their game on Thursday night, their season opener against the Lions.
Travis Kelce, at least according to Andy, Reid suffered a
(31:30):
hyper extended knee during practice today, and multiple outlets reporting
that he did avoid any significant damage in his acl
is intact. However, he does have inflammation in that knee
and the Chiefs are going to test it again Wednesday
to determine his availability for Thursday, and to make matters worse,
they'll be without or they'll at least likely be without
Chris Jones NFL Network saying he's unlikely to play Thursday.
(31:50):
This comes after Andy Reid said today that there was
no progress on a deal that would get him to
end his holdout. Back to you guys, thanks a bouch
k Ip, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
My friend The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon live from the Tirerag dot com Studios coming
up next. Yes, Travis Kelcey was the big story the
day of the NFL Travis Kelsey's heart. Ah, I know,
I know, we're figuring it out, but we have to
get to what happened today involving the Raiders and one
of their stars.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Oh, this is Rader.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Here's the phrase, Raiders always go to Raider. Yeah, this
is the story it has in mind. That's next, right here,

before the commercial was ending. I'm gonna play this song.
I like to mix, Jason. I don't wait for anything.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
I just go remix. Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Jason Smith Mike Harmon live from the ti rack dot
Com studios. We'll have more on Dion Sanders coming up
in a bit. Colorado ranked for the first time I
think since Eric Bienemy was playing. But uh, as we
age closer to the regular season, all we got a
bit on your bears. I gotta get to but why
(34:07):
oh well no, Justin Fields had some interesting things to
say ahead of one of the big games of the week.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Because look, Bears Packers, that's a pretty big bleeping he
got off social media. That's a pretty big like that.
I can throw a touchdown pass and people say, well,
you should have done this better.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Uh, but you know, and again you want to know why,
people say, Jason, why do you have this never again list?
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Why do you have this never again list?
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Well, because there's teams and individuals that have failed me
so many times in the past, kind of like Starscream
kept failing Megatron over and and over again.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
You have failed me again, Starscream, I just over why
didn't you ever take them out? Over it? But at
some point, I mean, it becomes too convenient and lazy
for the writers. Hey, he's the fall guy again in
real realact.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
I don't think he was looking for another decepticologist Sam's place.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
When when the heat, when the heat, you know someone
else is gonna step up and and this guy sucks.
I'm done. Yes, well, okay.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
In the first movie, remember Megatron was unconscious offline for
like what hundreds of years, and the first his first
thought was when I'm back, you failed me again. Start
screaming one hundred and some on years. I can't I
can't do anything for this I can't do any guy.
I can't do anything right for this guy. I understand
maybe they uploaded all of his failures.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
But my never again.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
List exists because there are there are teams and individuals
that I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
I'm not gonna fall forward again. And why are the
Raiders on my never again list? Well?
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Because of stories like this today. Chayla Jones Cu sholl
Uh is not happy with the Raiders and apparently he
wants out. He's going into his second season with the
team and things haven't been great, and he posted several
Instagram stories in the last twenty four hours, including a
(35:56):
screenshot of a message he sent to head coach Josh
McDaniels complain that he can't get into the team's gym
to work out and he's got to go to a
public gym to go work out, and he writes on
the page, I'm a top athlete with one hundred and
twelve sacks in the NFL. I gotta go to a
local gym to work out for no apparent reason. This
(36:16):
is wild to me. Josh, you know you need to
do what's right. He goes on to say, I can't
even get my GM on the phone.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
They won't let me in the building.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
If that's my head coach or GM, I would play
anywhere anywhere else.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
He is not happy now.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
As what normally happens after situations like this, social media
posts get taken down. However, the damage is done. Once
something goes up, people see it doesn't matter if it's up,
but it's dab the damage. Like when someone gives up five
runs to the top of the fifth to fifth iny
O says, well, top of the fifth ends, but the
damage has been done. Five runs here at the time
the damage has been done. Raider's gonna raider. Here's Chandler
(36:52):
Jones saying, I can't get into the gym. You're not
allowing me into the gym. I can't get into the gym,
and I'm trying to get it touch with Josh McDaniels
and other guys, and I can't get into the gym
to work out.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
And every one of us that saw this story over
the course of the day said, what the hell is
going on here? Number one? Why are you contacting the
head coach about getting into the gym. Got a million
middlemen and women.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
Well, apparently some other people aren't getting back to him,
so I got to go to the coach.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Just go straight up to a minute. He just mentions
the coach in GM conditioning coach position. Coach, I think
with the guy assistant to the traveling secretary. I mean
someone else. Why is my key card not working?
Speaker 1 (37:36):
He's been I've been working all the way up and
now I'm up to Josh McDaniels.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
I've been working all the way up. Well, I'd love
to see that phone history if he was really going
through the organization. Guys, guys, guys, he's got.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
A text text chain with Josh McDaniel's going, so you
know he's he's got his number.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Sure, so he's getting me. Look, you're gonna get the
uh the phone call list like you do for your chain,
you know, the chain call. Hey, practice canceled today, I
can't get into the gym. Hey you for the job.
Track's gonna be fifteen minutes later. Click make sure you
called Jenny, and then Jenny's gonna and they say you
have to take a half hour. Explain that to your kids.
On the first practice. Okay, so Jenny's the first number.
(38:13):
Then Jenny's gotta call Susie. So what you're saying, get
a hold of Susie that she calls the next one.
But you gotta make notes that you could get a
hold of Susie.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
So what you're saying is the Raiders could have solved
this by having a team mob or team Yeah, okay,
all right, Hey, I don't I don't want to do
the schedule.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Boxes and they're the one that is standing there with
the towel and a key card to get you into
I tell you that. Always.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
That always burns me when I see teams that coaches
that have to have team moms or team that because
I don't want to deal with the scheduling or the
parents and stuff.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
That just that just pisses me off so much. And
I go, don't coach, Why why'd you sign up?
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Did you?
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Why'd you sign up to coach?
Speaker 4 (38:50):
Then?
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Why are you coaching your coach? Pistrat, Hey, it's always coaching.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
No, you're always talking to like you're still talking to
the high relationship with the parrots. That's you still have
that just like right here, if you're Josh McDaniels making
sure Chandler Jones could get into workout. That's coaching. That's right.
It's not call he plays, but it's still Core's. But
if I message, then yes, this is a guy that's
kind of instrumental to what you hope to accomplish. Unless
(39:17):
your hope is that he's just grundled enough you force
a trade and then you're in the Caleb Williams, Shader
Sanders or whoever else sweepstakes.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
Right now, he's sit here and going. People told me,
don't sign with the Raiders, don't go to the Raiders.
Don't go to the but.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
They're paying me a lot of money, don't they pay everybody?
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Don't he mesmerized by early footage of that sphere out there.
Don't go, but I'm over James Dolan sphere. But I'm
over thirty and they're giving me a lot of money.
I know it's what the Raiders do. Just that, don't go,
I don't go.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Don't. Raiders are always going to Raider. Raiders always devil.
You know the devil? You don't.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
I don't send the devil where you take his pile
of cash. You went down to the crossroads. These stories
don't get very good. These these stories don't happen. Whether
Stevie VI's playing guitar or whether it's in Detroit. This
story has happened.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
No taking Detroit at two of the greatest players of
a generation say I'll see you in hell rather than
play another down. But you can all get to work
out of the gym. That's not something that's not happening.
And you you would tell Dad Campbell's got things working. Man,
He's got things working in Detroit right now. It's got
good in now watch he and Robert Sala. Instead of
(40:23):
meeting team versus team, they're just gonna play dozens at
midfield with nature.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
And that'd be a tough time if Jets Lions, if
it was just a fistfight with head coaches, that might
be a tough one for So I think that'd be
the only one.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Only one. I mean, we could get him in in
the Steel Cage as part of uh, you know, Wrestlemanian
and Philadelphia next year.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
But this is why I never picked the Raiders. This
is why Raiders Raider reasons for the Raiders. I know
you have a tab on your Raid. Hey, you get
to the big quarterback on the spot coming up next
right here. It's not justin fields. We'll get to justin fields.
It's a different one that's next.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
Fox
