Big night.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
I'll have the show tonight, Mike, and I've given you
our yeah picks for this slevelan not pick Cleveland, gonna
give you our pick for tomorrow night's opening night in
the NFL. We made it happy NFL Eve. We got
the Chiefs and the lines and the Chiefs men have
enough players to play a game. But that's okay, we'll
get to that. So uh wow, big well put that

(01:12):
out there. Missing Chris Jones, You're missing Travis Kelsey. You're
missing two guys how many? You're missing your best defensive
you're missing your best defensive player, and you're missing arguably
your most important I don't say it's hard to say that,
but you're missing your biggest cog in the offense outside
of your quarterback. Yeah, you're missing two really huge players,

(01:32):
one of whom you have been working towards shoring things
up for a long time. You weren't expecting Chris Jones
walked in and you Reid's been saying it all on right,
Are you any closer? No, you can try to shorten
when you know when you don't have when you don't
have a superstar player, you don't just say, well, we're
gonna be fine without him.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
No, you're gonna try to know.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
He's very keenly aware that all of our did. He
look confident as he was telling you that Chris Jones
wasn't walking through the non use stick and duck tape
and try to make He was looking for the nearest
Tommy Berger to make himself feel better.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Tommy Berger, Tommy, see what I did there at Los Angeles?
I love you.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
So it's the that idea of you know, you work
your defense and you do your best to shore that
up with the Lions. Obviously, coordinator is back. You've got
a lot of weapons. You add Jamir Gibbs along with
David Montgomery. You got a pretty good backfield there. We
talked about Sam Laporte as a nice safety valve and

(02:31):
I'm on Ross Saint Brown catches anything that comes his way.
We get this defensively. I don't know what they are
and I can trust Patrick ma I did last year
all the way to the Super Bowl, right, last year's
Super Bowl picks.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
What do we do? I said, I'm taking the Chiefs
and everybody, Oh.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
No, Tyreek Hill, Yeah, it doesn't matter. Next man up
and it's only one game. And for one game, well,
scheme figure it out.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
And away we go. We'll give you our pitch. Still
the Lions, We'll get dude.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
The Lions are good. The Lions are good. Now I
have to see it. I wear suits now, Okay, it
looks great on you not making fun of me. And
you had Richie season one, who were the Lions for
the last fifty years? Richie Season two, wear suits? The
Lions season one, Richie, This Lion's now season two, Richie,
I wear suits. Now we're good. Now, we're a good team.

(03:26):
Now they made team. Now they may be on paper,
we're a good team now. I got to see it.
I wear suits. Now I wear suits. That's what it is.
I wear suits. I thought Jared Goff was trash. Didn't
everybody hate him? You don't even own a suit?

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Listen, No, I do want a suit.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
I got a great like g literally glitterly. Can I
say that really fast? No heart thing that I warded
the Taylor Swift show that goes you look like a
wrestling manager.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I was ready.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
That was my Oh the Mouth of the South. Is
that Jimmy Hart. They wouldn't let me bring my megaphone in.
Can you believe that? So we'll pick that game coming
up later on this hour. Again, we'll get back into
our super Bowl picks, which are bananas. But this story
just is one of those. It has an ending that

(04:14):
is not gonna be good for anybody. Matthew Stafford. Today,
Rams quarterback addressed the recent controversy surrounding his wife's comments
on a podcast. You remember we played these comments for
you her podcast Kelly Stafford the Morning After with Kelly Stafford,
in which she talked about Matthew Stafford having a tough
time trying to identify with his teammates. He's the older guy,

(04:36):
you know, it's tough for him now to come in
and try to find ways to find common ground. Whether
you listen to the same music, same type of television
shows you're watching, it's difficult, and that came out. We
talked about WHOA, So Stafford's having trouble identifying with his teammates.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
WHOA, this is a big deal, And we said at
the time.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
I don't know that I would have said that if I.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Was Kelly Stafford.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Well, Kelly Stafford went on to apologize and backtrack a
little bit from those blasts.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
I spoke on a topic that I think it's relatable
to the fact that it's hard to relate to someone
who is ten years younger.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
And actually about it was a very relatable thing. And
I do think that's entirely true.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
But I'm not in an NFL lockerom.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
I'm not spending every day with these teammates. Obviously there's relationships.
He spends more time with them than he does with me.
During the season that was tough. I say all the time,
even my podcasts probably not the best if your wife's
names in the media when it comes to if it's
talking out sports.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
And I failed pretty bad last week.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
But we're going to move forward, you know, hopefully those
guys and I know those guys know Matthew and don't
read into it because as we know, media can stir
things up. But I put my foot in my mouth
pretty good.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Okay. So there was that apology and she gets into
a couple of really important things there, and then.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Stafford talked about it today.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
He said, I was going to come out with buyfocals
in a newspaper, but I couldn't find a newspaper because
you know, I'm the old guy. And he said, listen,
everything is fine. The guys understand where I'm coming from.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Quote.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
They see me come in this building every single day.
They know how I go to work, how I interact
with everybody. We didn't really think too much about the comments.
To be honest with you, I'm not worried about it.
Nobody in the locker room's too worried about it. I
can promise you that we've completely moved on. He was
asked did you talk to Kelly about this and you
talked about anybody in the locker room about in your
comments that your wife made and he said no. So

(06:34):
now here is Stafford trying to put this fire out here.
Now there's two views to this topic, and the first
one is this is that what was wrong with these statements?

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Now?

Speaker 1 (06:43):
You know I always say the same thing in Kelly
Stafford alluded to it. Maybe she got it from me,
I don't know. Whenever a family member is quoted about
you in sports is not a good thing. Whether it
is your dad, your mom, your significant other, no rather
what kind of athlete you are, it is never a
good thing because it's always something that makes it seem
like you're having trouble and you need somebody to fight

(07:06):
your battles for you. And it's very it's very difficult.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Well in this one, I mean, this could be as
simple as pillow talk.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Well, it's like, hey, that's a good that's a good talk,
just just kind of talking about, Hey, how was your day.
It's like, you know, it's you know, it's a little different. Right,
some of the guys have moved on pillow talk, right,
I mean Cooper Cooper's banged up, so you know, we're
we're integrating some new guys, and and the new guys
aren't anywhere near my age anymore. No, it's it's look,

(07:36):
it's it's pretty simple. Kelly Stafford said something that she
thought was okay. But when you step back and look
at it, you go, you realize what you just did.
You just went out and your your husband told you
something in confidence. That is relationship, you know, because you
tell Look by everybody way, I think we all would
have assumed that though right right, No, no, you know

(07:57):
what I mean between between Rogers and and the guys.
Of course, of course there is gonna be a difference,
but it's it's you know, this is a conversation. Look, everybody,
you tell your significant other everything. And I think that
there's certain things that go on that is understandable. I
understand if you know. If I'm a RAMS player and
I see Kelly Stafford locker room boy, Matthew has probably

(08:18):
told her something about me. Maybe it's good, maybe it's bad.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
But their husband and wife, and that's that's normal part
of it. But Kelly Stafford coming out and saying, hey,
Matthews told me he's having trouble relating. That's a breaking
news story. And she realized that way too late. Think
about it. If it was an insider who broke that,
you know, if it was Jay Glazer or Adam Schefter. Hey,
Matthew Stafford having trouble lining up with his teammates and

(08:45):
identifying with them and and and getting on the same page.
That's a news story. And she said it as something, Hey,
this has been a whole thing. They probably joked around
about it. Matthew's Stafford's probably I don't know some of
these bands, these guys are listening to her, whatever it is,
but it's something that she I have a podcast and
I can just say it. And sometimes it happens you
don't realize what you said when you say it. And

(09:07):
now it's easy to examine, going, that's a breaking news thing.
That's something that an inside. That's where you get this
story from someone who has told you that, And that's
an embarrassing thing for Matthew Stafford. If that story came
out from an insider, that's embarrassing for Stafford. So that's
where Kelly Stafford's got to see this and go okay,
because she's got a podcasts.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
In the yastands.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
But the only way that becomes bad for Matthew Stafford
from an insider is if it's framed in the they're
not understanding football. I don't give a rats ass whether
they play Tiddley Wings together, they like the same music
or anything else.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
But you just don't hit on it.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
But you just hit on it.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
You hit it.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
This was not presented as the players are having trouble
relating to Matthew Stafford. That's would be with the Jets.
If there was problem with the Jets would be, Hey,
all these guys, you got problem is because you got
to make sure you relate to eight. All right, it's
your guy. We're going to win because of eight. But
this was presented as, hey, Matthew's having trouble relating to

(10:08):
his teammates, the group of teammates. Just think about what
it means with the way the way sentences are structured,
and they're said, this gives you the the the impression
that here's a quarterback having trouble with the rest of
his locker room. Right, That's what it was said, was, Hey,
the two sides, Matthew's older, him trying to you know,
they have a lot, doesn't have a lot in common
with the younger players. That's different than saying he has

(10:29):
trouble relating to the other places, like here's one person
and here's a problem he's having with the entire locker roo.
You realize the way you say things and how they're pushed.
People don't understand that. Don't understand that. For me, I
interpreted it just a you know, in terms of sitting
at the lunch room table, he might be the quiet
guy because he doesn't have any idea what they're talking about. Hey,

(10:50):
did you guys see the series finale of Riverdale? What
did you think of that? Odamdale? But like legitimate, like
whatever this show would be or movie would be that
maybe Matthew Stafford having a couple of kids running around
and hanging out at home, he's not doing the same things.
That's the only thing I thought, like from a football perspective.

(11:13):
I never and even when we talked about it the
first time, it never would have crossed my mind that
it was a he's not relating to them football wise,
because it's still football languages, football players, whatever, and you
don't have to be best friends, but it's still you
and I are still best friends, but it's like he's
older and he can't relate to the younger players.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
How much more time does he have? It's a bad
The whole thing was just a bade.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Hestead Of retired after that year, except for sixty million
dollars that made him come back. But see, this is
where people a lot, you know, the average person, the
average you know, football fan, baseball fan, basketball fan, doesn't
understand the power of what you think could be a
simple conversation and how big something can get because of

(12:00):
the words you choose that you don't even think about.
Kelly Stafford wanted to say, hey, my husband, Hey, you know,
he's the old guy in the locker room now and
he's trying to figure it out with his teammates. And
it's kind of funny. Matthews told me a couple of stories.
You say something that way, very benign, right, Oh, Matthew
Stafford the old guy, right, But if you say, hey,
Matthews told me he's having difficulties identifying with the players

(12:22):
in the locker room, and he's whoa whoa difficulties. Things happened,
and the way it's said changes everything. The way it
is that and she probably doesn't didn't know I'm saying
the same thing. Yeah you are, but this is what
it is in the media. This is why in the media,
when when you talk in the microphones, sometimes things get
blown out of proportion when you don't see it. And

(12:44):
it's a very it's a very big lesson that I
think they both learned about this. But you can just
see how the way something is presented. It could be
the exact same story. But if it was presented as hey,
Matthew's older and the kid, the kids going no, this
is hey, there's issues in the locker room. What does
it mean Matthew Matthew Stafford can't relate to his teammates.
Why and all his teammates he's the old guy how

(13:04):
many more years ago? He looks like a guy getting
pushed out. It didn't do him any favors. No, and
you saw how that goes. But you already have a
lot of questions about your squad, right we talk about
and you know Ramos was with us last night for
a bit in place of our guy Tyshirt. It's good
to see tyshert smile and face cross glass. There is
the idea of how many young players the Rams are

(13:27):
talking about something Buyer and I have talked about a
little bit because right they got Leeb Show went out
to Rams camp and the whole cell was the youth
movement and everything. So that's part of the equation is
you got a lot of young guys adapting to NFL life,
and he's got to play you know, grandpa or dad,
whatever the.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Case may be. But yeah, it's still young.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
Still. It felt like making it, you know, even funnier.
But it will be a trying season, there's no question
about it. Based on the way that roster is constructed.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Look, hey, they're completely ready for Tanka Palooza. And maybe
Caleb Williams. I mean, it's the Rams and the Cardinals. Hey, Sean,
come back, stay out of the media for another year.
You'll make your salary. It'll be another rough year. It'll
be another rough year. But on the other side, you've
got him or him, Yeah for him, Look how rough
it is for the Rams and the Cardinals are going
to just raise the stakes by starting Clayton Tune at quarterback.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
There you go, let's go. Really do want to win.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
So just so just so you can see in the
media saying that there's a big responsibility, and it's very
easy for things to go one way and go south
really fast. Even when it seems like, what did I
say that was so difficult? Sometimes it's that it's that oblique.
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon Live the tirag

Speaker 2 (15:20):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
Wait, very true?

Speaker 2 (15:28):
You know I actually have a Rick Springfield story. You do?

Speaker 1 (15:30):
I have a Rick Springfield I also had someone send
us a good burmanism uh related to uh Nick Bosa? Oh?

Speaker 2 (15:39):
Really okay, TJ.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Clearly Joey is going WHOA with his Bosa full of cash?

Speaker 2 (15:47):
TJ? Nice, pretty good that one? Did you just do
that Mike he did, did he did?

Speaker 1 (15:54):
We've got a couple of guys that are U super fans.
I'd love to feed in the berman. So here's of
Smith's life. Here's my Rick Springfield story. What about Jeffrey No,
this is a Rick Springfield story. So Rick Spray tell
me Rix Spraece. So this is about fifteen years ago.
I went to a dinner. What this is when I

(16:15):
was at ESPN Do It All Night and I went
to a dinner. My boss sent me up saying, hey,
if you want to have a dinner, forew to go
to so you can meet a bunch of other producers
and stuff and everyone they want. This is when ESPN
was trying to make a big push to get people
in entertainment on the shows. Like okay, great, because I
remember that big run at the end, like we gotta

(16:35):
get these stars on the shows. Okay, okay. So I
go to this dinner and it was a big dinner
and a whole bunch of daytime TV stars of all
different of all different walks of life. And Rick Springfield
was there sitting at the table across from me. So
doctor Noah, doctor Noah Drake was it. He was there,
so everybody had their date. You found out where you

(16:56):
were sitting with your name at the table. So I'm like, okay,
my name's here, and Rick Springfield's I think at the table.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
I'm like, oh my god.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
And my best friend's wife was the biggest rig Springfield fan,
like would have left her husband in a minute from
Rick Springfield. So I'm like, I gotta do something. I
gotta Oh, I know, I know. I'm gonna wait till
the end of the night and I'm gonna take his
name plate because it's just not a piece of paper
like chancy on piece of paper, and I'm gonna take
it and I'm going to uh and I'm going to
just smail it to her and it'll be fun, like oh,

(17:22):
they'll love it. So I wait to the end of
the night and there's like everybody's at different tables and
I'm like, yeah, this is gonna be grand.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
We'll get it.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
So I go to I walk over and I look
on and see him. He's all the way on the
other side, and they were like, yeah, I'm just gonna
grab it real fast, and people are leaving. I walk
over and I grab it. I think I grab it
really sly and then I hear a voice probably drop.
I hear a voice from behind me going is that yours?
And I turn around. I'm like, oh no, and it's
somebody who worked at the restaurant that starts clearing the table.
Oh and the person knew who Rick Springfield was and

(17:50):
didn't know who I was. So I'm like, I can't
lose this. I gotta keep this. And I'm not gonna
lose to you because it just a bleeping he's a paper.
You're not gonna beat me. So I go, yeah, sorry,
he asked me to grab it for him. I'm I'm
a I'm a misproducer. He goes oh, and she goes, oh, okay, okay, okay.
I go and I go, okay, I gotta leave now.

(18:11):
So I had to leave because if I didn't leave,
I would have been in a lot of trouble. So
I'm glad. And you know, the next day I called
my boss. She goes, how was I said, great? Any
stories of me?

Speaker 2 (18:20):
He said? She goes, no, no to everything. Why why
what happened? I go, no, no, nothing. I just didn't
know if anybody said anything. It was granted.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
I got to meet a lot of people, so I thought,
all I'm gonna do is try to take his name,
and I just on the spot of man up.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
I'm a Rick Springfield producer.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
I will I just have to ask one question out
of this. Yes, Tysher was in here yesterday. He doesn't
know who Rick Springfield is.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
But we did.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
Reference the Jimmy Hart song. We didn't buy Doctor Noah Drake.
We did when talking about Noah Gray, the tight end
who would pick up reps Travis Kelsey. This is like
who It's kind of odd that twenty four hours later.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
All of a sudden, there he was.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
This is like when you're in your house and you go, hey,
do you think uh is Billions come back? Yet?

Speaker 2 (19:00):
You start watching Billions?

Speaker 1 (19:01):
And then you get on your phone and you go
on Facebook and a big ad for Billions pops up.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
How does that happen? I've been telling you that for years.
How does that happen? I don't get it. That guy?

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Do you think these microphones ever are off? Come on now, teyser,
do you know who Rick Springfield is?

Speaker 4 (19:15):
I know Jerry Springfield.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
No, it's Jerry Springer. That's Springer. Too soon, Jerry, it's
a long show. Too soon. On Jerry Springer. A lot
of people fine, Rick Springfield?

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Who is that Rick?

Speaker 2 (19:29):
He's a singer and an actor.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
He was the mayor.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
He was one of the first singer actors. Jerry Springer
was a mayor.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Oh, Springer was the mayor spring Homer was the mayor
of Springfield.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
No, no, no, no, no. Mayor Quimby is the mayor
of spring Quimby Quimby, Yeah, no, Mayor Quimby.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Is the mayor.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
So then who's Rick Springfield?

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Rick Springfield is a singer and an actor, popular mainly
in the nineteen eighties but still with staying power today.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
Must not be that good. If I've never heard of him?

Speaker 2 (19:59):
Do you watch General Hospital?

Speaker 4 (20:01):
A more of a dentist guy.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Okay, then you would not know who Rick Springfield. But
you just played his song, so you was a little
bit of who he was.

Speaker 4 (20:09):
That was okay, Okay, maybe I could just be his producer.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Sure, just just pretend, just just say it very authoritatively
and anything. Fine, Yeah, I just gotta get this. I
get this, and I ran out of there. I was like,
I gotta go, no, now, I gotta go. Now all
that I.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
Got a name plate.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
All the other people I'm supposed to talk to to say, hey,
you want to come on the show and everything. No,
I gotta go, gotta go, gotta go aut a free dinner.
And I got Rick Springfield. Ye did you get any contact? No,
but I got the same plate. It looks Look we
got Wade Bond's pants. Look at the cursive writing here,
this nice little piece of paper. This is fantastic. He
wrote that yourself. Did you so today? Nick Bosa got paid?

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Yes, he did.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
Niners hold out raiding defensive player in the year in
the NFL needed a new deal. That's he's you know,
at least the guy say it right now, I need
to get paid. If I'm gonna suit it, I need
to get paid. I need to get paid.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
He gets paid a five year, one hundred and seventy
million dollar contract extension. He is now the highest paid
player in the NFL, biggest disruptor in the game. And
now the forty nine ers, everybody is feeling awesome about them,
and now they're back and getting to the super Bowl
and all these things. Now, you know me as confident
I've been about the Jets, and the Jets are going

(21:17):
to the super Bowl, and I've told you that, and
we're actually making our official picks tonight on the show.
My biggest fear of this season, I'll tell you fear.
I'll let my guard down a little bit here. I
told your story about taking Rick Springfields. Now I'll tell
you this too. My biggest fear is not that the
Jets suck this year, because I've seen that before. Now
you have them for a long time. I mean you,
you went through a full head of hair watching the Jets. Yeah,

(21:41):
with the exception of two years, I think when Mark Sanchez,
when Mark Sanchez let them the title game, I had
Pennington in two thousand and two, I had you had
far for a first half of Farm eight that I
had Sanchez and nine and ten and yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
But that does Yeah, no, entire fourteen, I had nothing.
In my entire forties. I've seen that. It was a
bad decade. Man, it was really bod a lot of quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
We're now going to be stars and maybe playing in
an NFC title game. Uh. My biggest fear is not
the Jets suck, because I've seen that. My biggest fear
is not the Jets suck and the Giants are good,
because I've seen that as well, I've seen that.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Now.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
Don't get me wrong. That would suck this year, but
I've seen that before. No, my biggest fear is that
this year I have to watch Sam Darnold carry the
Niners to the super Bowl because you could see it happening. Right,
brock Perty is the guy. He had a great debut
last year. He kept it going throughout time. After there

(22:45):
was a film on him throughout the NFL. You think, okay,
we can slow this offense down a bit. No party
is the right fit for that offense. But this is
a new year, this is new, this is new everything.
There are expectations, there are going to be adjustments, and
maybe Purdy struggles, maybe Perdy isn't one hundred percent healthy
yet coming back from from the UCL injury. And Sam

(23:08):
Donald steps in and suddenly it's lightning in a bottle.
That right, Gino Smith and the Seahawks. Last year, Gino
Smith couldn't make it with the Jets bouncing around as
a backup. Suddenly goes to Seattle and after a year
it's hey, look the guy's a Pro Bowl quarterback and
he gets a one hundred and fifty million dollar contract. Now,
my worst case area, this year is watching Sam Darnald

(23:28):
step in and suddenly, you know, seeing what he sees
downfield getting the ball to the right person, which is
what he's never really done. And there's just too much
talent there for him, whether it's McCaffrey or Kittle or
Ayuk or Debo and the lights out defense and Sam
Donald doing interviews every week saying guys are just going
out to play.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
I don't want to say any bad things about the Jets.
I enjoyed my time there, and everybody else is gonna say,
look at the Jets.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
All they do is ruin quarterbacks. They're gonna ruin Rogers. Rogers,
They're gonna ruin him. They ruined Geno Smith, they ruined
Sam Donald. Last we watched Gino.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
Now we're watching Sam, and Donald's gonna go all the
way to the NFC champions Watch it's gonna be Donald,
the forty nine Ers and the Seahawks in the NFC
Championship game. And I have to watch Geno Smith as
a wild card and Sam Darnald winning the division as
that's gonna be the NFC title game. X Jets now
have to play, and they show all the highlights of
them sucking in New York and all them throwing touchdowns

(24:20):
at their respective teams. No, that is my worst nightmare
of this season. That's my biggest fear. Sam Darnald leads
the Nighters to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Yeah, down where I live.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
They've now allowed folks to start painting parts of a
wall at as your head toward the beach, and people
are starting to draw some pretty cool you know, here's
an ocean scene, here's something sci fi. There's someone with
one of the Simpson's Treehouse of Terror things. All of

(24:49):
these I'm gonna go and paint the X Jets now good.
And here's Gino and Sam Sam Sam, and they're just
gonna be pointing at you the entire time.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
No, the opportunity is there.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Right, health is obviously concerned, not only for Purdy, but
you mentioned Kittle and McCaffrey, but you have Elijah Mitchell
behind him. Right, you do have some depth at running back,
Jason Jordan Mason, I want to say, Jason Mason, Mason
and Davis Price, who was solid at points. You look
at the rest of the squad offensive line, so long

(25:22):
as Trent Williams holds up another one of those big
hey does he get through seventeen games? Kind of guys
here as well. So, yes, the depth is there, The
opportunity appears to be there. Just the quarterbacks. With Rock Purdy,
there's been a lot of anointing and he had a
hell of a run last year, there's no question about it.

(25:44):
And I have to question though, how much of it
was him versus the story versus a little bit of
the old Johnny Bravo he fit the suit, but also
just the idea of hey, he's mister irrelevant. So this
is a bigger story, right, Well.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
A lot of it as well.

Speaker 1 (25:59):
Let's say he went through our first guy and he
got hurt, he went through our second guy and he
got hurt. We gotta go to the third. No, but
that's just it, right, happy accident. Where's Trey Lance? On
the other hand, Look at.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
You going, Bob Ross. Now he's a happy little accent
there you go.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Yeah, I mean he was supposed to be the guy
he could stay healthy. So unfortunate victim of circumstance as
it were. Look, the Niners are loaded, They're absolutely loaded,
and I love them more. Look we got Jason locking
Ford coming up next hour on the show, we'll see
how much he loves the forty nine ers. But I mean,
you see it sometimes it is it's just that that fit.

(26:36):
And again, part of part of my worst fears is
having to watch and listen to people saying a lot
of it's about faith. Thought about the right system. Look
at Geno Smith. Jets had a bad system. Jets system
is bad, Gino Smith. Never mind, it was ten years
from Geno Smith from the Jets to get to the
Seahawks where he was finally good. And he's with like
eleven teams in the meantime. No, no, no, no, no, no,
no ah, the Jets were bad. Sam Darnell, Oh yeah

(26:58):
yeah there right system system systems. Wait, I thought darna
was gonna be great with the Panthers, dona was I
told you Sam Donald was gonna stick with the Panthers.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
Oh he's gonna be great.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
Oh everybody else thought Matt Rule was a wizard Jet
system system Get now how Matt Rule gets the on
Sanders on Saturday? Jet said that system that sens man
Jets Aman, that system system. Look at the system. The
system these guys are in, they're in the right sentiment. Yes, yes,
I know the system. But that's gonna be the big copy.
You have a system and I don't have to watch it. Yes, yes,
I do have a system for this. My system is

(27:26):
I don't want to watch Sam Darnold and Gino Smith's
in the NFC Championship game and I gotta I could
just see it happening for Sam.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Darnald, what a nice guy looking at me deserves a success.
This is hard work.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
I mean, look, he battled ghosts. I mean he was
going into the ECDO cooler. That wasn't unfair when you
have to fight ghosts as well as the other team,
that's very ense. Also, the Patriots, it's not pretty good
at defense and they're bringing ghosts. Do you honestly think
the Patriots didn't actually bring ghosts and he didn't find
a way to actually let them loose like one of
those Ghostbusters ghost It got triggered because you know, it

(28:04):
looks like like it could be a cab equipment.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
Is that a battery? Yet it's a camera battery? Oh okay, great, Yeah,
let the ghost the.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Cords running at it? Absolutely is there is there another
outlet in there? Yeah, hey, I go ahead and open
that up. I'll tell you and now those ghosts my second,
my biggest fear. It's it's I could just see I
could see the whole tapestry weaving throughout the NFL season. Ah,
Rogers Jets are only four and four. Look look at
the two teams that had all I could just see it.

(28:32):
So what you're saying is you got the scriptor in
I could see it. Marian Foster gave me a little
bit of a this is this is a potential script
because there's a bunch of different earths. I don't know
if this script is for this earth. There might be
a script for a different earth that is on this one,
especially once you had the ghosts. Yeah, see, well that
comes together.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
Now we got ghosts.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. How much you want to?

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Bet Tysher told a girl, Hey, I'll play this song
for you in nine forty eight.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Listen, I'll play this song for you. Oh that's pretty good.
I'll play this song for you.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
Does it work Jason or no?

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Yeah no, no, that's pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
To go back to your Jason Mason work that Uh no,
or did you still have to come up with a
big help people.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
People would call in for songs all the time.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
Yeah, and the only world the rule was you could
do you do request songs as long as it was
a current, Like if they requested an oldie. They didn't
want you to go on and say, hey, here's a
song from you know twenty years ago that you know
Jack and Balwinsville requested. No, if it was a current, Yes,
Jack who's not a student who was a student twenty
years ago, play Smoke down the Water for him and

(29:38):
maybe let's go.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
What did you pay them?

Speaker 1 (29:40):
The call in can you can you play Rock around
the Clock by Bill Haley and the comments I'd like
to hear that, Yeah, no, no, no, you know people
would call in all the time. People go and it
got it was so it was all right just to
pull the curtain back real quick before you picked this game.
So when I was doing a radio in college and
I was on Jason Mason on JA Radio, it wasn't
it wasn't like the radio now where when the phone

(30:03):
rang an intern answered or a producer answer, like you
had to like in the morning doing the Crazy Morning Crew,
I had to answer the phones so because yeah, crazy morning,
crazy morning crew. Uh So anytime somebody called, like you
would record it because maybe something would fun happen, a conversation.
And and the thing that drove me bat banatas crazy

(30:26):
was that the same people would call the same time
every morning, requesting the same song. They would call the
time can you please play The Price of Love by
bad Anglace?

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Like?

Speaker 1 (30:34):
I remember this kid called five after eight every single day,
every single day. He called for like a month and
a half, and I had a fi Hello, can you
please play Price Love by Bad English? Okay, I'll see
what I could do. So finally I said him, you called,
can you play Price? Let me? But I said okay,
I said, hey, you call every single day and you
called every day for like a month and a half.
I'm gonna play it for you next Okay, don't call

(30:57):
anymore and ask for this song, but I'm gonna play
it for you.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
And he's all right, thanks.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
So I say, hey, you know, hey, uh, price will
love music for you know, Jeffrey from Skinny Atlas. You know, yeah,
Price will love Bad English. Right next day, kid calls again,
right says it's like that joke with the penguin walks in,
you got any grapes?

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (31:18):
So?

Speaker 1 (31:19):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (31:19):
He calls again.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
He goes, can you play Price lit bit bad English?
I go, I go, hey, dude, you called. I told
you yesterday I was playing the song for you and
not to call it. He goes, oh, I missed the
handing it on the bus. I'm like, oh, no, way, stop, no, no,
I'm not gonna play it for you. I'm not gonna.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
So I lost a listener.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
But I was okay with that. But there were other
people like that that would call the same time every
day asking for the same song.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Can you play Vision of Love by Mariah Carey? Vision
of Love by Mariah Carrey six oh three? Every day?

Speaker 1 (31:46):
I crazy, morning girl? Can you play Vision of Love
by Mariah Carrey? Yeah, we'll get to that. Okay, thanks
all the time, all the time, really passionate, get on
the bus about what? Why why are you calling your
request a song? If you gotta get on the bus,
what I mean? I said your name on the ends.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
Everybody else would enjoy it. That's why. Okay, let's pick
this game. Let's pick this.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Let's go happy NFL eve tomorrow. We kick it off
for real, twenty four hours from now, we're breaking down
the Chiefs and the line.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
Yeah we are.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
I'm gonna take the Lions and the five points or
four and a half points, I don't really care because
you know what, I'm not gonna need them, because the Lions,
you don't want the points, would win on the field tomorrow.
They shock the world. Kansas City's great, but you're missing
your best defensive player. You're likely missing Travis Kelsey. We'll
talk to Jason Locket for the next hour, but it's

(32:39):
hard for me to see him playing.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
Sure.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
Those are two really big players to miss. It's gonna
be a sloppy game early because all Week one games
are sloppy early because you know, offenses need some time
to gel, to play together a little bit. But the
Lions offense will get it going in the second quarter.
Their offensive line will dominate. They will put points up.
It is gonna be a shocker. Give me the Lions,
alreaty four to twenty four over the Chiefs. Give me

(33:03):
the Lions.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Well, I'm going two touchdown win at home.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
Cited a bunch of stats a little earlier in the
show about the greatness of Mahomes and Andy Reid in
openers and what Mahomes has done as a starter since
taking the reins there in Kansas City, Andy Reid nine
and one in his openers as head coach of York
Kansas City Chiefs. Minu's are great against the number, so

(33:28):
getting that four and a half, Campbell has been really
good against the numbers. So bite your knees and stuff. Though, Yeah,
no question about it. I'm gonna take the Chiefs. I'm
gonna take the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Leady, I'm gonna. I'm gonna give give you the points too.
I'm gonna. I'm gonna say I get.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
Double the points. Now I get nine points or ten points.
Why you said you're gonna give me the points? If
I say, you take your four and a half, well,
if you're taking the favorite, that's the whole thing that
you have to take the hole. I could still take
the Lions and no, but your take the favorite. So
you have to give the points.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
As the underdog. I can say, hey, I feel so
confident my squad. I don't.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
But my pick could be Hey, Detroit, I don't need
the points, and I say, no, they're gonna get buried.
No man, arrow, Okay, So Burrowhead. No, Burrowhead is what
you look Burrowhead. Give me Val Scandling to have a
big day. Tony probably gonna go sky Moore, but where
it's really gonna happen. Pacheco and Jeric McKinnon out of

(34:27):
the backfield, Patrick Mahomes, Doctor Noah Gray chiefs wrong. See
you all at Burrowhead. Twitter, And how about a Fresco Mike,
it's swollen dome. Not the end of our NFL predictions.
Coming up next, Mike, can I tell you who's going
to the Super Bowl? Keep it right here, it's Mustless
