Speaker 3 (00:50):
Well.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
I want to start tonight with with with a big
announcement here. I mean, I've kept this from you guys.
Today I want you guys to know. Okay, today I
was elected mayor of Detroit. I don't know know that,
but yes, there was a special election because of my
belief in the lions. I am the new mayor of Detroit.
So i'mn'a have to juggle being the mayor of Detroit
and do the show every night. But it should be
okay because they told me being the mayor is like

(01:12):
a mayor day is like four hour job. So I
could do four hours during the day, find and you know,
and deal with Detroit and I can do it over
zoom and that way I can stay here in LA
and do the show with you guys, and everything is.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Good, okay.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
Most commonly reported home maintenance issues plumbing issues throughout the
city of Detroit about forty percent of residents in a
recent survey. Also, one third of residents report problems with
pests of all size, sizes, and shape, including roaches, mice,
and rats. And then, well are you tree issues and

(01:47):
root problems? Again related back to the plumbing. You got
a lot of infrastructure. You have to go to your
four hour workday. It's a pipe dream.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Pal. Well, here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
It's easy because number one, remember, all I have to
do is say, yes, I understand we have issues. But
I picked the lines to go to the super Bowl,
and I told you they were gonna win opening night,
And that buys me a lot of good will like
the issues kind of go away. However, I don't know
if you know this, but I have already started. I
have now put together the rat Force. I've put together
an entire force to go out and get rid of

(02:16):
rats and mice. And I've I've okayed any kind of
of of any kind of equipment you need to get
rid of these pests. So it's gonna be really fun
weekend in Detroit.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
No.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
I mean, look the fact that for the last decade
here on Fox Sports Radio we have had the rat
rankings and updates and really monitoring how cities have adapted
and adjusted their programs to help exterminate and really work
towards a better tomorrow. I mean, we are that show

(02:48):
that can help. So, yeah, you in this role, I
have great, great confidence that you'll be able to succeed
in some in some way, shape or form.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Yeah, that's my slogan. It's gonna work to a better tomorrow.
Remember I told you the Lions would beat the Chiefs,
and I have them in the Super Bowl. I mean
it's a long it's a long slogan and it doesn't
really fit that great in a T shirt, so you
have to break it up a little bit like maybe
the you know, the front is the work for better
tomorrow and the back is the rest of it, or
you know, flip it around a little bit, because really
that's more important. So I put the Lions on the
front and the rest of it on the back. Okay,

(03:17):
for better tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
No, that's good. I like that.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
I think that was also in one of those futuristic
you know, running Man kind of things back in the day,
or Logan's Run.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Or something like that.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
But you know, hey, congratulations on your neck title. Thank you,
it's thankless. And let's face it, they still have sixteen
more weeks because if it goes south, they're gonna want
you out, even if you're making great progress as an
actual Mayer.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Well, I've already shot my huge chacked them. But look
I've already shot my first commercial, and I did the
right thing. I made sure that in the commercial there
were many scenes where I was wearing a dress shirt
and my sleeves were halfway rolled up, like I was
getting to work politicians.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
So I knew that.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
I knew that hard hat with the Lions logo on there,
I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Well, actually the hard hat had and had beer in
the top that it was with with the straw down,
the drinks in.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
But that was pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
But the other one is all we're all me with
construction workers with my sleeves rolled up like I was
actually in doing things.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
So I feel I feel pretty good about that. Remember
the end of that year.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
Just put a two by four over your shoulder and
start going talk.

Speaker 1 (04:21):

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Now, before we get to something incredible with.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Colorado going into tomorrow's game, maybe we have a new
college football star. And if you are watching tonight, I'm
sorry if you don't have spectrum. You are watching tonight
Jalen Daniels of Kansas fulfill all that expectation that he
had that people have talked about him. He got hurt
last year, but boy, this guy is putting on a

(04:59):
show on national TV against Illinois. A couple of these passes.
He looks like the Anthony Richardson of twenty twenty three.
Here's a guy who just suddenly comes out of nowhere
to show you a skill set that is amazing and
have scouts and teams drooling all over me in there, going, oh,
maybe there's more guys than just Kayleb Williams. Maybe we
went up with a second pick. We're okay, Hey, we
can tank because we can get this guy too. I mean,

(05:20):
he looks amazing, his escapability, his ability to throw on
the run. It is fun watching this because, hey, I
kind of like Kansas football being good. It's like it's
two thousand and seven all over again. It's kind of fun.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
I think when we look at the way this game's performed,
and obviously my keen eye on well everything big ten,
but certainly the quote rival in state in Illinois to
my alma mater, Northwestern for the uninitiated and those joining
the show, thanks for coming in being part of our
extended family. This has just been an absolute beat down.

(05:54):
I mean, Illinois, there was great enthusiasm coming into the
year that they'd be able to build on some of
what Beelam Will put in last year, and they've just
gotten beaten in every phase. Big plays all around. The
hope now is fault. Well, I mean you can always
trace it back to Lovey. I mean last night, I mean, look,

(06:15):
it all goes through the the Bears as throughout everything. Right,
last night's game, Matt Naggie did not coach up, you know,
our guys in the receiving game to really bail out
and and make plays for Patrick Mahomes. I mean they
just didn't just time it again. So Tony is failure.
Yesterday is really Matt Naggie's failure. So it's all Bears

(06:38):
all the time. But what we've have to hope though
for Daniels is that you know, they're one to zero
coming in tonight and this is an absolute beat down. Literally,
it's the how quickly can we run the clock out
at this point? Lay down, lay down, keep the clock going?
Is that the although the new clock rule allows that
to keep going anyway, seem the roller coaster like effect

(07:00):
that you and I witnessed with Richardson, remember, because he
was a September Heisman guy and you crowned him. You
went and crowned him.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Now, I said, if Caleb Williams doesn't win it, because
the victory crowd said, I said, Caleb Williams.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Very uneasy, uh and uneven season at times. We'll see
if Kansas can have a smoother ascent towards big things
in a bowl later on the season.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Caleb Williams was my pick, and I said, if he
doesn't win it, then it's going to be then it'll
be Anthony Richard.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
But Caleb Williams won, So there you go. I had it.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
I had it, jumped on him early. It was all
overweighted it just like you and your lions. Now you're claiming,
proclaiming yourself mayor.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
I was elected mayor.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
I didn't know that means things can go to hell,
just like they did for Richardson at times last year.
As soon as you jumped on the bandwing, they say, listen,
we saw this stuff on social media.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
It's awesome. We think you can lead the city.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
I said, okay, great, and they said free muskrat dinners
and I said, okay, great, Muskrat dinners.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
There it is there every Fridays, must got dinner night.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
There's your payment, by the way, and watching this game
that we just saw one of the great sites that
there ever is when it comes to football.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
You get those.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
Fours up get those fours up. We're moving to the
fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Jalen Daniels two fifty five through the air, two touchdowns,
also thirty three yards rushing, and the amount of yards
he is run side to side I believe is in
the five hundred. It's like Mahomes in the Super Bowl
against the Bucks the mount He is run side to
side in this game tonight.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
So we'll have more on this game coming up. Again.
It's great.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
I mean, Kansas being good in football is just absolutely fantastic.
But we got Pete Fu Tech coming up in a
few minutes. It's gonna break down all the big games
this weekend in college football. And look, we have a
huge one between Texas and Alabama.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
But huge one, that's a huge, huge get.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
However, no game is more cooler or more popular right
now than Colorado Nebraska. Twenty five percent of the money
bet on all college football games. Games are bet on
Colorado tomorrow over Nebraska. Now this is this is Yes,
It's part of the popularity for Colorado because look, gambles,

(09:09):
people like walking around saying, hey, yo, yeah, I put
some down on Colorado this week. Man, I bet you
like to walk around being on the next big thing.
I'd like to walk around telling your friends, Oh, I've
already streamed the entire two scenes of the Bear. Oh yeah,
it's man, yo, you're gonna love it. You know, the
social it's part of its social currency. People love to say,
oh yeah, I'm in on the new thing with Colorado.
But here's me, because you know, I always I like

(09:29):
to be the old guy in the horror movie. Wait
a minute, Wait a minute, Wait a minute, Wait a minute.
They're at home and they are giving two and a
half points. Yeah to Nebraska, two and a half points.
I know, I understand the line has moved. It started
at nine this summer. But we watched Nebraska play last
week and they couldn't put a score on the board.
And you watch Colorado just with Ease and Shadu Sanders

(09:51):
put up five touchdowns and they look like they're boat
racing everybody. How are they only a two and a
half point favorite. It makes me think this is a
trap game, and maybe it's a tre game. And now
I'm suddenly I'm nervous about this. Like if I had,
like if I was gonna bet you know, Zoe's college
money or whatever it was that I had to bet.
If I was gonna bet, it seems like a slam
dunk T bet on Colorado, right, it seems like such

(10:12):
a slam dunk to bet. How is it only two
and a half points? That's too big of a question
for me to say. Yes, I believe Colorado like this
could be a trap game and something is coming. Nothing
makes sense to show us that way. That's why why
I can't believe. The line is how is it not
a ten point game? How's that a fourteen point game?
I don't understand. You upset a team that was ranked
in the top twenty five. Now you don't know how
good they are really TC, but.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
You still upsetting games? Yeah, everything, but.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
It's still a team.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
You still the facts are you upset a team on
the road that went to the college football National Championship
last year. You are playing a team that is downtrodden,
that couldn't put up more than one score one touchdown
last week on national TV in a game that was
just embarrassing.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
It was an awful game to watch.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Where people are watching going everybody used to pay attention
to Nebraska football really was a big deal. Yeah, it's
a long time ago. On the time called the nineties.
None of this makes sense. None of this makes sense
that we are looking at a two and a half
point spread in this game, and I wonder, suddenly Vegas
is gonna walk away tomorrow, going, ah, there we go.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
We just made all our margins for the rest of
the calendar year. We can do whatever we want to
now we're all rich again in these casinos.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Yeah, so it's some of it is the Nebraska side
of all right, what are we missing? What in that
first game are we supposed to say, you know, hey, PJ.
Fleck and rowing the boat was able to get him,
because remember the one touchdown they got was on a
very fluky trick play that just happened to go right right.
The running back throws it back to the quarterback and

(11:38):
it rolls up and right into his arms, so he's
able to wing it downfield and tada, there's nobody within
twenty yards of the wide receiver as he catches the pass.
So very fluky there. So the fact that we're still
looking at such a narrow spread despite the offensive ineptitude,
Now perhaps there's a bit of a discuss shouldn't be

(12:00):
had as to Nebraska being willing to just try to
ground and pound and keeping shaduor Sanders on the sideline.
There is part of the game to try to slow
it down, keep that clock moving, you know, because part
of the discussion in the deification of everything Colorado. It's like, folks,
remember Travis Hunter was the number one wide receiver recruit

(12:21):
in the land right now, you didn't expect the iron
Man thing to happen. Likewise, shaduor Sanders wasn't he a
four star or five star in some of those rankings.
So yeah, I mean they had some star power, but
the big thing is and for TCU. And I'm sure
this was the discussion with a lot of Robert Sala
inspired cursing around the hallways, although it is Texas Christian,

(12:42):
so maybe not maybe not quite the full assault.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Sanders do to you?

Speaker 5 (12:48):
Man?

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Did Dan Sanders do something to you? Did something happen?

Speaker 4 (12:51):
I'm just being a like at something like I just
can't be I'm not a believer one game. I'm not converting. Okay,
you gotta gotta get me for the long I need
more classes, I need more more sermons, I need more
of it. Okay, you know, I'm just not going to
John twenty twenty nine, and I'm not just buying all in.
I got to see that defensive line and that offensive

(13:13):
line test it, and I think for TCU, there were
a lot of angry moments going back to why'd we
stop brunning the ball? Why did you try to get
into a shootout with these guys?

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Yayby Macs a little bit, buddy, They're playing in Nebras.
Get that Nebraska's looking at they have matching socks for
the game.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
I mean, come on, wow, Wow.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
Frost isn't there anymore. Although I haven't exactly been kind
of Matt Ruhle in mind and my discussions the last
couple of years either.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Well, it kind of feels that way to bundle and
save everything you need in one place when it comes
to college football. The website is college Footballnews dot com.
You're one stop shopping for everything you need in college football,
all the previews, all the breakdown, all the analysis, and
with us now to break down a huge action pack
Week two in college football. The editor proprietor owner Grand

(14:10):
Pooba of college Footballnews dot Com. Pete fu tech, Pete,
what's happening, Bud?

Speaker 6 (14:15):
Nobody brings in a transition from an ad to a
segment like you do.

Speaker 7 (14:20):
That was fantastic.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Not my first rodeo. I'm feeling pretty good about that.

Speaker 6 (14:25):
The compliment that's what you are where you are, and
I am where I am.

Speaker 7 (14:29):
See that's how this.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
Well.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
I'm waiting to see people wearing college Footballnews dot Com
shirts with the saying on the back one stop shopping
for college football, and well.

Speaker 6 (14:39):
The thing, the thing on the back is it's not
either it's not my fault that you're too stuck to
college football or or ripping off the onion about your
favorite band. Your favorite college football team sucks there, that's
it the other ex So I like that.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
I like that's that's it's not it's not it's not
my fault your team isn't better at college football.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
No, I kind of like that.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
All right, So before you week, Look, we got a
big slate of games tomorrow. But you know, Mike and
I spend some time on this. This doesn't make sense, right.
We saw all the act like Colorado is the story
in college football, and now twenty five percent of all
money being bet on college football tomorrow is going on Colorado, Pete,
I don't understand how they're at home coming off what

(15:21):
they're coming off, coming off what Nebraska is coming off.
They're a three point favorite. It makes me think this
is the biggest trap game in the world. And Vegas
is going to build new casinos off of their winnings tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (15:33):
And I don't know why if all this money is
coming in on Colorado, the line isn't changing, you know,
because the whole point of the lines, everyone thinks, like, oh, look.

Speaker 7 (15:42):
What Vegas knows.

Speaker 6 (15:43):
Vegas just is It's just a marketplace and all it
does is it shifts with the public. So there's money
coming in on Nebraska too. So otherwise the Lion b
up to like, you know, ten or fifteen at this point.
So it is I feel like it's the world just
trolling me. I feel like that. But like, just because
the betting public is saying that doesn't mean it's necessarily

(16:06):
a trap. But yeah, how can it? Colorado's got the guys,
Nebraska doesn't. But man, if Nebraska pulled this off, you
want to talk about the air coming out of the
balloon after all of the coach primeness and the do
you believe and all that kind of stuff, you know,

(16:27):
fall out pretty quick. If Nebraska pulled this off, which
I don't think they're going to do, but yeah, I mean,
how do you not It seems like a stucker but
at this point, but you got to do it right.
And if not, dip your cap.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
Well, if Nebraska suddenly has an offense that starts clicking,
then PJ. Fleck's a wizard. Based on what we saw
last week, Pete.

Speaker 6 (16:46):
Well, and also it depends on here's the problem. Colorado
won last week and it gets lost in all this
PC screwed up, like, you know, give Colorado credit for
making the plays when they had to, but PC, you also,
you know, kind.

Speaker 7 (16:59):
Of blew it in that game.

Speaker 6 (17:01):
No one does gacking a game better than Nebraska.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
So it is an introdutional right at basket Oh oh,
and it's transcending coaching staff at this point.

Speaker 7 (17:13):
I mean, it's performance art with the way that they're
able to lose games.

Speaker 6 (17:18):
And yeah, so let's see what happens. You know, if
Nebraska can just stop making mistakes, because as good as
their quarterback Jeff Stimms is coming from Georgia Tech. He's
a playmaker, he's a veteran, but he's also got a
turnover problem, and that seems to be what Colorado does.

Speaker 7 (17:34):
So we'll see.

Speaker 6 (17:35):
It's certainly gonna be interesting television.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
Pete, when we look ahead, now, obviously we're gonna watch
that game, and then all eyes will be on Texas Alabama. Well,
I tell you, I'd love to see Texas win this
game with that offense is so bleep and exciting. I know,
maybe I want to see, like you know, Arch Manning
just run down from the crowd and jump in the
game in.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
The third quarter.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
But I'd love to see Texas win this game. But man,
I'll tell you, Alabama seems like they got dudes again. Man,
And I don't know that Texas has what it is
they need to pull this off.

Speaker 6 (18:05):
What do you think, Yeah, you don't go wrong by
picking Alabama.

Speaker 7 (18:09):
Ever, you know, even if they lose, you're still right.

Speaker 6 (18:11):
You're just you gotta go with Bama. I just I
this is all qo Texas And oh look at this offense.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
I know they should have.

Speaker 6 (18:19):
Won last year if quint Ewer said stayed healthy and
and no, no, it's Alabama has got the lines. I
will believe Texas can actually do something big like this
after they actually do it. But they're going into Alabama.
Alabama's feeling disrespected. They feel like, oh, it's all Georgia, Georgia, Georgia,
and oh yeah, we don't have a bright young or

(18:40):
a two under center, and you know, God willing, maybe
we'll be able to field the team this week and
all that kind of stuff. I think that Alabama comes
out and just runs them over until Texas proves it
really does have a run defense they can hold up
in a game like this, I will believe it. It
will be interesting if Texas pulls it off, though that

(19:01):
obviously changes the entire dynamic of the college football season
because now that's pretty much it for Alabama because they're
not going to go and skate the rest of the
way if they lose this, all of a sudden, Texas
looks like there's been you know, this week's Florida State
and everyone's going to fall in love with them for
the college football playoffs. So yeah, it's gonna be a
fascinating game one way or another. But I kind of
think in a game like this went in doubt just

(19:23):
take Alabama. Don't think about it and just move on.

Speaker 4 (19:27):
It was a fun last week though, I mean Dion
obviously a lot of headlines, but Brian Kelly and and
Dabosweeney going down in humiliating fashion. I mean the college
football gods. Kind a good chuckle, kind of not.

Speaker 6 (19:41):
A bad day when those things happen, is it?

Speaker 5 (19:43):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (19:44):
It look I am not a Brian Kelly fan from
all the things that happened at Notre Dame the quote
unremarkable things that happened at Notre Dame. But the team
is still very good. You know, LSU will bounce back
to this. I do think Empson bounces back. And if
you want to look at the lines, I don't know
if it's up yet. But whatever Clemson is giving away

(20:07):
this week, I can't remember. They're playing one of the
some FCS team. I can't remember who it is, but
they're not good at football. Take it, yes, Charleston Tell
who's actually not good at football? So whatever the line
is as the as the advice I always give is,
if it's ever fifty, always take the underdogs. A million

(20:27):
and one things have to happen to get to fifty points.
I don't care what it is. Take Clemson, they're just
because they're gonna want they're gonna need to do some work.

Speaker 7 (20:35):
They need to.

Speaker 6 (20:36):
They're paying them. They're paying Charleston Cullers for a reason,
So they're gonna pay so just so they can get
the timing down of that offense, just so they can
get that thing going. Already, I think they're gonna come
out and just destroy them tomorrow. And if you look forward,
it's not a bad schedule. They get Florida State at
home in a couple of weeks. If they win that,

(20:56):
then they can write the ship and they's they're kind
of back up on their way.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
So I'm not LSU.

Speaker 6 (21:02):
I think a doubt at this point Clemson.

Speaker 7 (21:04):
I'm not there yet.

Speaker 6 (21:06):
The wow do their wide receivers have to show up
at some point here?

Speaker 1 (21:10):
All right, Pete help us out here. Tomorrow is your
turn to get to coach Michigan for a quarter. While
Harbaugh suspended, what's your plan offensively? What's your playing defensively?
Because I think if you're right, you have the second
quarter of tomorrow's game against unlv.

Speaker 6 (21:24):
I just keep running reverses over and over again, just
like until you could prove like look So here's the
thing in college football.

Speaker 7 (21:31):
You can keep running the same play.

Speaker 6 (21:33):
Look Nebraska and Oklahoma and Army and those old wishbone
teams did it for years where they just ran the
same play fifty five times and said, try to stop me.
I'm going to run reversus all game along on UNLV
until they could.

Speaker 7 (21:46):
Prove it they can stop me.

Speaker 6 (21:47):
And if I'm wrong, I'm still up thirty to nothing
after the first quarter, so I'm pretty good. And then
I'm getting you know, I'm booted to the sidelines at halftime.
So but I think I'm going to revolutionize Michigan football
with five game plan.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
Here here's another reverent boy, they looked tired. Blake was
really tired again.

Speaker 5 (22:06):
And no kicking.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
I Am not punting even if I'm in one yard line.
I'm going for it on fourth down every time, just
you know, just the situation will play this one.

Speaker 5 (22:14):
Out a little bit.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
So we got taunted a little bit that Iowa's offense
actually showed up what happens in the in the battle
for the State of Iowa against Iowa State. Are we
going back to worrying about special teams and defensive scores
or do they actually have something.

Speaker 6 (22:27):
Well, we're worrying about who they got playing because this is,
you know, the gambling controversy Bowl here, because apparently Iowa
was the only place where student athletes on game.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
There's nothing else to do there, Pete.

Speaker 6 (22:42):
Yeah, you know who else is doing that? Every other
college football player and every other college athlete. But okay,
it's a tapping adowa all right. So but yeah, we're
so used to it being like nine to six and
first score wins and all that. I I don't quite
buy that Iowa. They all back full with out hundred
deckers and they seem to have been hit harder by

(23:05):
this controversy than Iowa had. And you're right, you know,
Kate mcnamaras do an actual downfield pass that got completed,
and that's Ottawa fans are going, what's that? That seems
like it's fun.

Speaker 7 (23:17):
Let's do that again. And they didn't really do it
the rest of the game.

Speaker 6 (23:21):
But that's how they do things. It's going to be boring,
it's not gonna be of citing a brand of football.
But I do think that Iowa comes out after losing
last year. I think Iowa kind of writes this ship
and I think they get Iowa State, and I always
say just does not have enough of an offense.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
Yeah, the over unders are still only thirty six and
a half, so I might have overstated my excitement for
what these teams will put up.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
All right, bet hey, let's close here, because this guy's
put on a show tonight. Well, I mean, unless you
have spectrum, you haven't seen it. But look Jalen Daniels
of Kansas. I mean, it's it's easy to say. He
looks like the Anthony Richardson of twenty twenty three. The
guys come out of nowhere. He was hurt last year,
always had a lot of promise, and suddenly has an
amazing skill set. You watched them make throws on the run,

(24:06):
watching him make plays with his legs. He is really legit.
And suddenly we're back to it's two thousand and seven again.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
Kansas football is good, kind of amazing.

Speaker 6 (24:14):
Well, the biggest thing right now is that Illinois Isn't
you know? This is Illinois is supposed to grind it out.
They're supposed to have this great team. I mean last
year they were amazing defensively, they were amazing at controlling
the clock, they controlled the lines, they died it, but
they lost all that NFL talent in the secondary. They
don't have Chase Brown of running back. And now this

(24:34):
big bad Illinois team under britt beelom Uff kind of
looked a little just mediocre so far. So yeah, but
Daniels add him on to the Big Twelve because look what.

Speaker 7 (24:46):
Else you got me?

Speaker 6 (24:47):
Who where are the star teams from the Big Twelve?

Speaker 5 (24:49):
They're all over the place.

Speaker 6 (24:50):
So again, Kansas is just not your speed bump of
past year. So this is a team that's going to
be a problem. I don't think they're gonna win the
Big Twelve title or anything, but certainly is long long
as he's up and running around, they're going to be very.

Speaker 5 (25:03):
Very good.

Speaker 6 (25:03):
And even their back he was kind of question Jingles
was questionable coming into this.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
They've got a backup.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
Who's been around for like six years who's.

Speaker 5 (25:10):
Pretty good too. And Lance leepold what.

Speaker 6 (25:13):
He was able to do at Buffalo and now here
at Kansas he is probably he's that kind of proverbial
best coach going. But you know, if this is NASCAR,
you give him, you know, Nick Dave in the same
type of cars and let's see who wins. He is
probably the best coach that no one really pays much
attention to. But he's really, really good.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
He's on Twitter at Pete Futech. That is at Pete Futech.
Check out college Footballnews dot com. You are one stop
shopping for college football. It is not Pete's fault that
your school is not better at college football. Pete is
always buddy appreciated.

Speaker 4 (25:49):
Man.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
We'll talk to you next week. Have a great weekend.

Speaker 6 (25:51):
It is my fault of Nebraska wins though.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
Okay, Pete could never go to Nebraska again.

Speaker 4 (25:58):
Now, well, and as soon as you go and start
throwing the Laurel Crowns, dude throws an interception into the
end zone, Illinois comes right down on him.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Smith. It's all your fault. Yeah, Now, it's only an
eleven point lead for I really in his career.

Speaker 4 (26:13):
Remember when we started things thirty five minutes ago. It
was say a burial.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Hey, the world's a different place, and it was thirty
five and the it was you know.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
He is the author of eight books, including Rogers a
relentless Jets Life and a selector for the Pro Football
Haul of Very good Jay Call, what's happening, buddy?

Speaker 3 (26:40):
How are you.

Speaker 5 (26:42):
So? If you're mayor of Detroit, Dan Campbell is what today?

Speaker 3 (26:51):
He's the governor of Michigan, he.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
Believe, Yeah, boy, he might hold seven elected offices. Yeah, simultaneously. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
I don't know what his politics are, but they'll get
into either the next Republican debate or they'll create a
Democratic debate.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
He will be in one of those, to a guarantee. Guarantee.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
Oh yeah, he's bigger. He's way bigger in Michigan than
Jesse Ventura ever was in Minnesota. It's like, no question
about it.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
What did you tweet last night?

Speaker 1 (27:19):
He could run naked down eight mile and get nothing
but high fives after that?

Speaker 3 (27:23):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (27:23):
Absolutely, Yeah. They got off the plane, Dan Campbell stripped down,
just did a quick jog down eight mile High five
and everybody police said, no problem, that's good, he's one
of us.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
Police are helping us. They're wearing lions hatses, they're helping.

Speaker 5 (27:41):
They got yeah, they've got those lions that thought. And
actually they were giving him a police escort as he
was going naked down the road. That's a that time
I said, love him in Detroit.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
Paint in Honolulu blue. They'll driving down.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
Having a parade.

Speaker 5 (28:01):
Oh after that victory, of course, and Mike Turrico not
allowed back in the state after the after a comment
that's that's just how it's going. Let's not overreact too much,
Lions fans.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Yeah, that's actually time you actually had some pretty good
analysis the last night's game, because I was digging what
you what you were writing about how uh, how well
you thought Jared Golf was playing on third downs And
the last time anybody wrote about how well Jared Golf
was exceeding at something was a long time ago.

Speaker 5 (28:32):
Yeah, well, he was pretty good last year on their
good you know, their big run. I give him credit.
And this offense is pretty well set for him, right,
Like you know, they're they're kind of they're weird because
everything is single back, but it's kind of max protect
within single back because it doesn't tight so often, so
like they make it. I wouldn't say, I'm not saying

(28:54):
they make it easier for the offensive line, but they
basically make it so that the offensive line can see
where everybody is. They create this mass right and then
he throws out of it. It's pretty. It's a really
well designed offense for what Key's good at. And and
but the really great part is, you know, there were
a couple of times, you know, the blitz coming in

(29:14):
off the off the edge on the third down throw,
the guy got to him and he and he didn't
throw a perfect looking ball, but you know he got
it there, and you know he got that ball off
before the guy you know laid you know, laid the
wood to him. So I got to give it to
him on that one. Those are a couple of clutch throws.

(29:35):
I mean, not everything was pretty, but that's a road
game against the defending champion, and like the Thursday night
opener is about the closest thing that you get to
college environment in the NFL. So you know, like winning
and when you're a road team and you win that game,
that's a big deal and your quarterback has to step
up at he's two or three times and he did that.

(29:57):
He really made a couple of big throws on third downs.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Second half, having a good streak without turning the ball
over so huge as well. Jacoble But on the other
side of things is Travis Kelce return. Does that solve
all the ills or they he need to go find
some other help in that wide receiving corps.

Speaker 5 (30:17):
Well, I mean I was gonna come. I was going
to come on disguised as Kadarius. You know Tony's hands
tonight because they didn't show up last night, No they did.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
You stopped the phone. We would never get you would
just keep dropping.

Speaker 5 (30:29):
We would never I don't have my hands on the
phone right now. I'm going just so that won't happen.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
God.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
I mean, if he catches any one of those four drops,
that could have changed, any one of those that could
have changed.

Speaker 5 (30:44):
You know, I will say this, the one over the
middle where James crosses in front of him, I'll even
give him credit that that's distracted because James too close
to him and got distracted. I'll give him that one, right,
But the three other ones you can't be any more open, right,
and the ball can't be any better thrown like on

(31:07):
all three of those plays. So yeah, I mean hold
on to the one for the first down instead of
letting it bounce into Abram's hands, I mean returns it
to the touch now, right, Like, just don't have those
things happen. Yeah, I mean again, it's very rare times

(31:28):
where I say that one guy loses a game for
a team. Last night, Cadarius Tom, He's lost the game
for him. There's no other way to say it. And
I'm not saying he's a terrible player or anything like
that or has no value or anything like he just had.
He had a crappy game, and that's there's no other
way to say it. And yeah, if he catches one

(31:48):
of them, especially the one that went for the interception,
it's a different game, and they probably only give up,
you know, they give up the fourteen points. They win
twenty to fourteen in all likelihood.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen,
Live from the tire rack dot Com Studios.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Jason col oar guest.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
All right, so I've the couple of big predictions I've
made so far for this week. Look, I was right.
I said the Lions went on the field. I have
that the Jets are going to smash the Bills on Monday.

Speaker 5 (32:17):
Anything anything else you want to pat yourself on on
He's pretty in the bathroom.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
No, listen, I'm the mayor of Detroit. Now, I am
the mayor of Detroit.

Speaker 4 (32:25):
So I told him about the rating problem. He's inheriting.

Speaker 5 (32:28):
How how are you doing with the Mets the shore?
I never mind.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Sorry, the Jets are going to smash the Bills, and
I know you agree with me.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
What do you thinks? What was thirty eight fourteen, thirty
eight seventeen? What do you think?

Speaker 5 (32:43):
I think the Bills are going to the superboket? Sure,
and you got shot on.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Stay well not games on Monday, so it's good, but
we may show sun.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
Sorry, it is the Jets.

Speaker 5 (32:55):
Sorry, it is the Jets.

Speaker 3 (32:56):
Hey, why is nobody in the stadium? It's one o'clock
oh tomorrow?

Speaker 5 (33:01):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, all right.
Sorry I didn't have it all memorized. But I think
the Buffalo bubblo is not one of the most interesting
if you follow the narrative for more than a year. Right,
you go back to that game that they lose to
can't sit in the playoffs in twenty twenty one, right,

(33:24):
and yeah, they blow that game. It's tough, you know,
really tough loss. Right, and then they definitely think that
they should have gone to the Super Bowl. They proved
themselves a little bit too early the next year, you know,
because they open and they destroy the Rams right at
the beginning last year, they get off to an incredibly
hot start, going five and one, going into the bye week.

(33:47):
They come back to kind of you know, ugly game
against Green bagas in the six and one. Then they
start to muddle their way through games and then they
have this tragedy of DeMar Hamlin happens at the end
of last year, and I think that that completely threw
them for a loop. I think that's not a galvanizing moment.

(34:08):
I think that's one of those moments where athletes see
their teammate literally die on the field for a moment
and then get revived, and there's this sense of mortality
that most athletes really can't handle at this time in
their life because they're trying to do things that are
sort of superhuman or believe that they're superhuman, right, And

(34:31):
I think that, you know, that wrecked the end of
last season. I think that they peaked way way too early,
and then they went through something that was really unique
after blowing a great opportunity at the end of twenty
twenty one. I'm fascinated by how that team reacts this year.
I truly am fascinated because there was a stretch at

(34:52):
the end of twenty twenty one through the you know,
the first six games of last season where they were
an app with buzzsaw and they should have you know,
they were as good as any team, if not better
than any team in football, and then they lost it
last year and then they really really lost their stride
with the hambling thing they carried over into the playoffs

(35:14):
and they were never they were never quite the same.
I want to know how the Bills handle that. I
think it's one of those great narrative you know, sparks
that we want that we want to see how does
a team respond ja go on?

Speaker 4 (35:28):
What are the great battles this week? Here in Los Angeles?
Kellen Moore versus Vic Fangio.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
Who wins?

Speaker 5 (35:38):
Chris?

Speaker 4 (35:40):
You got to go down to brass tacks.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Okay, that's that's how presented here. That that that's that's
everybody's Internet page.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
That's how they're presenting there.

Speaker 5 (35:49):
There, it's more Fangio. That's that's the battle. That's that's
a couple of guys, huge personalities. Okay, mister electricity Kellen
Kellen Moore looks like he still belongs in junior high school.
And Vic Fangio is like Gruntsatsio. That's about the best
you're going to get out of that. There goes.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
I don't need I don't need them for press conferences.

Speaker 5 (36:11):
But Sangio is a great, great defensive coach that's well established,
and he's got some pretty good talent there and some
guys he's worked with. I do think that the Chargers
like I think that that Herbert is a way better
player than he played last year because of the injury,

(36:33):
is a bad offensive scheme, all those things. I he's
much closer to what he was the first two years
when he threw what thirty one tds and thirty eight TVs.
I think the Chargers should smoke the Dolphins in this game.
They really should just crush them. If they don't, then
you know, for Rostburg will be living with your guys

(36:54):
harping on him for a while, which you guys always
do because it's the Chargers. But you know, Vic Fanz
not Vic Fanjo. This Chargers team is healthy. They're they're
really really good, and they should play like it in
this opener against the team that. Granted, the Dolphins are

(37:14):
a playoff team. You know, they're they're They're not a
powerhouse yet. We'll figure out if Tu is there. But
like to me, the Chargers should be a much much
better team than than the Dolphins this year. When it's
all said done, I.

Speaker 1 (37:31):
Just hope they put Fango in charge of timeouts. That's all.
It's not too much.

Speaker 5 (37:35):
You want, you want well better than Staley. I mean Staley,
what's Staley going to do? Oh, let's go from it
from our own twenty seven.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
You know, like that work for Dan Tamble.

Speaker 5 (37:46):
He's Brandon Staley is going to be the first NFL
coach and say I'm cutting my punter. We're not hunting
the entire season. That's what we're going to do. I
mean yeah, Like, there's a guy who just believes in
his own BS more than anybody who hasn't. Why, Like,

(38:07):
Sean Payton believes in his own BS, There's no question
about that, right, But Sean Payton's actually done something right
and had one of the best offenses in the league
for a long time, has a Super Bowl, all those
kinds of things, right, Brandon Stary acts as if he
is already Sean Payton, And I just don't get it.
I don't get it at all all.

Speaker 3 (38:29):
Right, Jaco, let me leave you with this.

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Now, what's the bigger thing that you would look forward
to if you could only do one thing this weekend?
To watch the Cowboys Giants game on Sunday Night Football,
or to be able to interact with the artificial intelligence
hologram version of Jerry Jones that the Cowboys unveiled. So
it's the actual game or AI Jerry Jones.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
What do you thick?

Speaker 5 (38:53):
I wish Don Banks the stole wise so that he
could do the voice of the AI. That would be
That would be awesome. Man, It's gotta be the A.
I think, like there's no question about it. Like, could
you imagine the conversation that you have, Like I hope
that they spent like hours and hours recording Jerry just

(39:15):
to get all the conversations, to know where that he has.
Just that would be fantastic because you would get some
cowboy bes in there. You would definitely get cowboy bes
on the AI version of Jerry.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Well, I don't, I don't.

Speaker 1 (39:28):
I don't want to spoil the surprise, but they've actually
asked me to record the AI voice of Jerry, So I.

Speaker 5 (39:34):
No no, don't, don't, don't do it.

Speaker 4 (39:37):
Don't don't see that long setup.

Speaker 5 (39:40):
I'm not very I will not, I will not do
my own. Jerry, please don't do yours. Just don't. No, God,
you're taunting me again. Don't do it second time with my.

Speaker 3 (40:00):
Two A couple too many times. It's a jo.

Speaker 5 (40:02):
Yeah, that's not sure too. That that would be monopos
and that's what that is. Okay, that French thing.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
Okay, what I enjoyed I speak. I enjoyed that Ratit
toy movie. That was pretty good with the with the
racket rat talking food, that was really good.

Speaker 5 (40:18):
I like that. That was a great French cooking too.
You know, I felt alive when I was watching that at.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
The restaurant when that happened.

Speaker 5 (40:26):
Actually, could you imagine, like the the hologram of Jerry
Jones talking to the hologram of Snoop Dogg or no,
not snoop Dogg tupa sorry cauld you mention that conversation.
That would be awesome, wouldn't it. Well?

Speaker 3 (40:39):
There you go. I think that's eight hundred words for you.

Speaker 1 (40:41):
Maybe that could be your next book, right, conversation that
that that's your book instead of l way.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
Relentless Life the last book. Now it's a I Jerry
A Relentless Life.

Speaker 5 (40:50):
That's your book, I Jerry AI Tupac. Can we do that? Yeah? Yeah,
we could do that. I like this.

Speaker 3 (40:55):
Why not? He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.

Speaker 5 (40:59):
That isn't Jerry would start with the lyrics. Wouldn't he
start reciting lyrics? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (41:03):
Absolutely?

Speaker 5 (41:07):
Games alright, bye, happy Week one.

Speaker 3 (41:10):
