Speaker 1 (00:49):
I want to start tonight with with with a big
announcement here. I mean, I've kept this from you guys
today I want you guys to know. Okay, today I
was elected mayor of Detroit. I don't know if you'd
know that, but yes, is a special election. Because of
my belief in the lions, I am the new mayor
of Detroit. So im gonna have to juggle being the
mayor of Detroit and do the show every night. But
it should be okay, because they told me being the
(01:10):
mayor is like a mayor day is like four hour job.
So I could do four hours during the day, find
and you know, and deal with Detroit and I can
do it over zoom and that way I can stay
here in LA and do the show with you guys,
and everything is.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Good, okay.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
Most commonly reported home maintenance issues plumbing issues throughout the
city of Detroit about forty of residents in a recent survey. Also,
one third of residents report problems with pests of all size, sizes,
and shape, including roaches, mice, and rats. And then well
(01:45):
you tree issues and root problems again related back to
the plumbing. You got a lot of infrastructure. You have
to go to your four hour workday.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
It's a pipe dream. Pal.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Well, here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
It's easy because number one, remember, all I have to
do is say, yes, I understand we have issues. But
I picked the line to go to the super Bowl,
and I told you they were gonna win opening night,
and that buys me a lot of good will. Like
the issues kind of go away. However, I don't know
if you know this, but I have already started. I
have now put together the rat Force. I've put together
an entire force to go out and get rid of
(02:14):
rats and mice. And I've I've okayed any kind of
of of any kind of equipment you need to get
rid of these pests. So it's gonna be really fun
weekend in Detroit.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
No.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
I mean, look the fact that for the last decade
here on Fox Sports Radio we have had the rat
rankings and updates and really monitoring how cities have adapted
and adjusted their programs to help exterminate and really work
towards a better tomorrow. I mean, we are that show
(02:47):
that can help. So, yeah, you in this role, I
have great, great confidence that you'll be able to succeed
in some in some way, shape or form.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah, that's my slogan. It's gonna work to a better tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Remember I told you the Lions would beat the Chiefs,
and I have them in the Super Bowl. I mean
it's a long it's a long slogan and it doesn't
really fit that great in a T shirt, So you
have to break it up a little bit, like maybe
the you know, the front is the work for better
tomorrow and the back is the rest of it, or
you know, flip it around a little bit, because really
that's more important. So I put the lions on the
front and the rest of it on the back. Okay,
work for better tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
No, that's good. I like that.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
I think that was also in one of those futuristic
you know, running Man kind of things back in the day,
or logan is.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Run or something like that.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
But you know, hey, congratulations on your neck title. Thank you,
it's thankless. And let's face it, they still have sixteen
more weeks because if it goes south, they're gonna want
you out, even if you're making great progress as an
actual mayor.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Well, i've already shot my chicksed them. But look I've
already shot my first commercial, and I did the right thing.
I made sure that in the commercial there were many
scenes where I was wearing a dress shirt and my
sleeves were halfway rolled up, like I was getting to work.
Oh politics, hard hat, So I knew that.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
I knew the hard hat with the lions go on there,
I didn't know.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Well, actually the hard hat had and had beer in
the top that it was with the with the straw
down the drinks in But that was pretty cool. But
the other one is all we're all me with construction
workers with my sleeves rolled up like I was actually
in doing things.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
So I feel I feel pretty good about that.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
Remember the end of that year. Just put a two
by four over your shoulder and start going.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Talk about that tough guy. Tonight shoe brought to you by
Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable. Get a
multi policy disc guy by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat,
ATV and more all your protection and one plays bundle
and Save at Progressive dot Com.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Now, before we get to something incredible.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
With Colorado going into tomorrow's game, maybe we have a
new college football star. And if you are watching tonight,
I'm sorry if you don't have spectrum. You are watching tonight,
Jalen Daniels of Kansas fulfill all that expectation that he
had that people have talked about him.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
He got hurt last year.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
But boy, this guy is putting on a show on
national TV against ill Illinois. A couple of these passes.
He looks like the Anthony Richardson of twenty twenty three.
Here's a guy who just suddenly comes out of nowhere
to show you a skill set that is amazing and
have scouts and teams drooling all over me in there, going, oh,
maybe there's more guys than just Kayleb Williams. Maybe we
went up with a second pick. We're okay, Hey, we
(05:16):
can tank because we can get this guy too.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
I mean, he.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Looks amazing, his escapability, his ability to throw on the run.
It is fun watching this because, hey, I kind of
like Kansas football being good. It's like it's two thousand
and seven all over again. It's kind of fun.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
I think when we look at the way this game's performed,
and obviously my keen eye on well everything big ten,
but certainly the quote rival in state in Illinois to
my alma mater, Northwestern for the uninitiated and those joining
the show, thanks for coming in being part of our
extended family. This has just been an absolute beat down.
(05:52):
I mean, Illinois, there was great enthusiasm coming into the
year that they'd be able to build on some of
what Beelam would put in last year, and they've just
gotten beaten in every phase, big plays all around.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
The hope now is fault well, I mean you could
always trace it back to love.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
I mean last night, I mean, look, it all goes
through the the Bears as throughout everything. Right, last night's game,
Matt Naggie did not coach up, you know, our guys
in the receiving game to really bail out and make
plays for Patrick Mahomes. I mean they just didn't. We
just time it again. So Tony is failure. Yesterday is
(06:34):
really Matt Naggie's failure.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
So it's all Bears all the time.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
But what we've have to hope though for Daniels is
that you know, they're one and zero coming in tonight
and this is an absolute beat down. Literally, it's the
how quickly can we run the clock out at this point?
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Lay down?
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Lay down, keep the clock going?
Speaker 5 (06:50):
Is that the although the new clock rule allows that
to keep going anyway, Yore, we'll see the roller coaster
like effect that you and I win with Richardson, remember,
because he was a September Heisman guy and you crowned him.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
You went and crowned him.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Now, I said, if Caleb Williams doesn't win it because
the victory crowd, I said, camb william.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
Very uneasy, uh and uneven season at times we'll see
if Kansas can have a smoother ascent towards big things
in a bowl later on the season.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Caleb Williams was my pick, and I said, if he
doesn't win it, then it's going to be then'll be
Anthony Richard.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
But Caleb Williams won, So there you go. I had it.
I had it.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
You jumped on him early. It was all overweighted. It
just like you and your lions. Now you're claiming, proclaiming
yourself mayor.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
I was elected mayor. I didn't know what that means.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Things can go to hell, just like they did for
Richardson at times last year.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
As soon as you jumped on the band.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Wing, they say, listen, we saw the stuff on social media.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
It's awesome. We think you can lead the city.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
I said, okay, great, and they said free muskrat dinners
and I said, okay, great, Muskrat dinners.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
There it is there every Fridays, muskrat dinner.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
There's your payment, by the way, and watching this game
that we just saw one of the great sites that
there ever is when it comes to football.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
You get those fours up, get those fours up. We're
moving to the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Jalen Daniels two fifty five through the air, two touchdowns,
also thirty three yards rushing, and the amount of yards
he is run side to side I believe is in
the five hundred. It's like Mahomes in the Super Bowl
against the Bucks the amount he is run side to
side in this game tonight.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
So we'll have more on this game coming up. Again.
It's great.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
I mean, Kansas being good in football is just absolutely fantastic.
But we got Pete fu Tech coming up in a
few minutes. It's gonna break down all the big games
this weekend in college football. And look, we have a
huge one between Texas and Alabama.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
But huge one. That's a huge, huge get.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
However, no game is more cooler or more popular right
now than Colorado Nebraska. Twenty five percent of the money
bet on all college football games are bet on Colorado
tomorrow over Nebraska. Now this is this is yes, It's
part of the popularity for Colorado because look, gambles, people
(09:08):
like walking around saying, hey, yo, yeah, I put some
down on Colorado this week man, because I bad you
like to walk around being on the next big thing.
I'd like to walk around telling them your friends oh,
I've already streamed the entire two scenes of the Bear.
Oh yeah, it's man, Yo, you're gonna love it. You know,
the social it's part of its social currency. People love
to say, oh yeah, I'm in on the new thing
with Colorado. But here's me, because you know, I always
I like to be the old guy in the horror movie.
(09:29):
Wait a minute, Wait a minute, Wait a minute, Wait
a minute. They're at home and they are giving two
and a half points. Yeah to Nebraska two and a
half points. I know, I understand the line has moved.
It started at nine this summer. But we watched Nebraska
play last week and they couldn't put a score on
the board. And you watched Colorado just with Ease and
Shador Sanders put up five touchdowns and they look like
(09:51):
they're boat racing everybody. How are they only a two
and a half point favorite. It makes me think this
is a trap game. And maybe it's a trap game.
And now I'm suddenly I'm nervous about this. Like if
I had, like if I was gonna bet you know,
Zoe's college money or whatever it was that I had
to bet, If I was gonna bet, it seems like
a slam dunk t bet on Colorado, right, it seems
like such a slam dunk to bet. How is it
(10:12):
only two and a half points? That's too big of
a question for me to say, Yes, I believe Colorado
like this could be a trap game and something is coming.
Nothing makes sense to show us that way. That's why
why I can't believe. The line is, how is it
not a ten point game? How's that a fourteen point game?
I don't understand. You upset a team that was ranked
in the top twenty five. Now you don't know how
good they are really TC, but.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
You still like setting yeah, everything.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
But it's still a team.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
You still the facts are you upset a team on
the road that went to the college football National Championship
last year? You are playing a team that is downtrodden,
that couldn't put up more than one score one touchdown
last week on national TV in a game that was
just embarrassing. It was an awful game to watch. Where
people are watching going everybody used to pay attention Tobraska football.
Really it was a big deal. Yeah, it's a long
(10:56):
time ago, in the time called the nineties. None of
this makes sense. None of This makes sense that we
are looking at a two and a half point spread
in this game, and I wonder, suddenly Vegas is gonna
walk away tomorrow, going ah, there we go. We just
made all our margins for the rest of the calendar year.
We can do whatever we want to now we're all
rich again in these casinos.
Speaker 5 (11:15):
Yeah, so it's some of it is the Nebraska side
of all right, what are we missing? What in that
first game are we supposed to say, you know, hey, PJ.
Fleck and rowing the boat was able to get him
because remember the one touchdown they got was on a
very fluky trick play that just happened to go right right.
The running back throws it back to the quarterback and
(11:36):
it rolls up and right into his arms, so he's
able to wing it downfield and tada, there's nobody within
twenty yards of the wide receiver as he catches the pass.
So very fluky there. So the fact that we're still
looking at such a narrow spread despite the offensive ineptitude,
Now perhaps there's a bit of a discussion to be
(11:59):
had as to Nebraska being willing to just try to
ground and pound and keeping Shaduar Sanders on the sideline.
There is part of the game to try to slow
it down, keep that clock moving, you know, because part
of the discussion in the deification of everything Colorado. It's like, folks,
remember Travis Hunter was the number one wide receiver recruit
(12:19):
in the land right now, you didn't expect the iron
Man thing to happen. Likewise, shaduor Sanders. Whethern't he a
four star or five star in some of those rankings.
So yeah, I mean they had some star power, but
the big thing is and for TCU. And I'm sure
this was the discussion with a lot of Robert Sala
inspired cursing around the hallways, although it is Texas Christians,
(12:41):
so maybe not maybe not quite the full assault.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Sanders do to you? Man?
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Did Dean Sanders do something to you? Did something happen?
Speaker 4 (12:50):
I'm just being a look at something like, I just
can't be I'm not a believer one game. I'm not converting. Okay,
you gotta gotta get me for the long haul.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
I need more classes, I need more more sermons, I
need more of it.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
You know, I'm just not going to John twenty twenty nine,
and I'm not just buying all in. I got to
see that defensive line and that offensive line tested, and
I think for TCU, there were a lot of angry
moments going back to why'd we stop running the ball?
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Why did you try to get into a shootout with
these guys? Maybe Matt rules a little bit, buddy.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
They're playing in Nebraska. Get that Nebraska's looky they have
matching socks for the game. I mean, come on, wow, Wow.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
Frost isn't there anymore. Although I haven't exactly been kind
of Matt Ruhle in my discussions the last couple of
years either.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
At least were getting it out of the way early
tonight Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show is My
Best Friend, Mike Harmon Tonight, Joe brought to by Progressive Insurance.
Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable. Get a multipole, I'll
see this gone by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV
and more all your protection in one plays Bundle and
save at Progressive dot Com. Well it kind of feels
(14:09):

everything you need in college football, all the previews, all
the breakdown, all the analysis, and with us now to
break down a huge action pack Week two in college football.
(14:29):
The editor, proprietor owner Grand Pooba of College Footballnews dot
Com Pete fu Tech, Pete, what's happening, Bud?
Speaker 6 (14:37):
Nobody brings in a transition from an ad to a
segment like you two.
Speaker 7 (14:42):
That was fantastic.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Not my first rodeo. I'm feeling pretty good about that.
Speaker 6 (14:47):
The compliment that's what you are where you are, and
I am where I am.
Speaker 7 (14:50):
See that's how this.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Well.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
I'm waiting to see people wearing college Footballnews dot Com
shirts with the saying on the back, one stop shopping
for college football, and.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
Well, the thing on the back is it's not either
it's not my fault that you're too stuck to college
football or or ripping off the onion about your favorite band,
your favorite college football team sucks.
Speaker 7 (15:14):
That's it's the other.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
So I like that.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
I like that's not it's not it's not my fault.
Your team isn't better at college football. No, I kind
of like that. I think it's a pretty all right
so before you week, Look, we got a big slate
of games tomorrow. But you know, Mike and I spent
some time on this. This doesn't make sense, right. We
saw all the act like Colorado is the story in
college football, and now twenty five percent of all money
being bet on college football tomorrow is going on Colorado. Pete,
(15:40):
I don't understand how they're at home coming off what
they're coming off, coming off what Nebraska is coming off.
They're a three point favorite. It makes me think this
is the biggest trap game in the world. And Vegas
is going to build new casinos off of their winnings tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
And I don't know why if all this money is
coming in on Colorado, the why isn't changing because the
whole point of the lines everyone thinks, like, oh.
Speaker 7 (16:03):
Look what Vegas knows.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
Vegas just is it's just a marketplace, and all it
does is it shifts with the public. So there's money
coming in on Nebraska too. So otherwise the Lion be
up to like, you know, ten or fifteen at this point,
so it is. I feel like it's the world is
trolling me.
Speaker 7 (16:22):
I feel like that.
Speaker 6 (16:23):
But like, just because the betting public is saying that
doesn't mean it's necessarily a trap. But yeah, how can it.
Colorado's got the guys, Nebraska doesn't. But man, if Nebraska
pulled this off, you want to talk about the air
coming out of the balloon after all the coach primness
(16:44):
and the do you believe and all that kind of stuff,
you know, fall out pretty quick. If Nebraska pulled this off,
which I don't think they're.
Speaker 7 (16:51):
Going to do, but yeah, I mean, how do you not?
Speaker 6 (16:55):
It seems like a sucker, but at this point, but
you got to do it right. And if not, if
your cap.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
Off, Nebraska suddenly has an offense that starts clicking, then PJ.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Fleck's a wizard. Based on what we saw last week, Pete.
Speaker 6 (17:07):
Well and also how it depends on here's the problem.
Colorado won last week and it gets lost in all
this PC screwed up. Like you give Colorado credit for
making the plays when they had to, but TCU also,
you know, kind of blew it in that game. No
one does gacking a game better than Nebraska.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
So it is an intitutional right at bast oh oh,
and it's it's transcending coaching staff at this point.
Speaker 6 (17:35):
I mean, it's performance arts.
Speaker 7 (17:36):
With the way that they're able to lose games.
Speaker 6 (17:39):
And yeah, so let's see what happens, you know, if
Nebraska can just stop making mistakes. Because as good as
their quarterback Jeff Stimms is coming from Georgia Tech, he's
a playmaker, he's a veteran, but he's also got a
turnover problem, and that seems to be what Colorado does.
Speaker 7 (17:55):
So we'll see.
Speaker 6 (17:56):
It's certainly gonna be interesting television.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Pete, when we look ahead, now, obviously we're gonna watch
that game, and then all eyes will be on Texas Alabama. Well,
I tell you, I'd love to see Texas win this game.
With that offense is so bleep and exciting. I know,
maybe I want to see, like you know, Arch Manning
just run down from the crowd and jump in the
game in the third quarter. But I'd love to see
Texas win this game. But man, I'll tell you, Alabama
seems like they got dudes again. Man, And I don't
(18:23):
know that Texas has what it is they need to
pull this off.
Speaker 6 (18:26):
What do you think yeah, you don't go wrong by
picking Alabama.
Speaker 7 (18:30):
Ever.
Speaker 6 (18:31):
You know, even if they lose, you're still right. You're
just you gotta go with Bama. I just I this
is all QO Texas and oh look at this offense.
I know they should have won last year if quinn
Ewer said stayed healthy and no, no, it's Alabama has
got the lines. I will believe Texas can actually do
something big like this after they actually do it. But
(18:53):
they're going into Alabama. Alabama's feeling disrespected. They feel like, oh,
it's all Georgia, Georgia, Georgia, and oh, yeah, we don't
have a bright young or a two under center, and
you know, God willing, maybe we'll be able to field
the team this week and all that kind of stuff.
I think that Alabama comes out and just runs them
over until Texas proves it really does have a run
(19:14):
defense they can hold up in a game like this.
I will believe it.
Speaker 7 (19:19):
It will be interesting.
Speaker 6 (19:20):
If Texas pulls it off, though that obviously changes the
entire dynamic of the college football season because now that's
pretty much it for Alabama because they're not going to
go unskate the rest of the way.
Speaker 7 (19:30):
If they lose this.
Speaker 6 (19:31):
All of a sudden, Texas looks like there's been you know,
this week's Florida State and everyone's going to fall in
love with them for the college football playoffs. So yeah,
it's gonna be a fascinating game one way or another.
But I kind of think in a game like this
went in doubt, just take Alabama, don't think about it,
and just move on.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
It was a fun last week though, I mean, Dion
obviously a lot of headlines, but Brian Kelly and and
Dabosweeney going down in humiliating fashion.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
I mean, the college football g it's got a good chuckle.
Speaker 7 (20:02):
Kind of not a bad day when those things happen,
is it.
Speaker 6 (20:05):
Yeah, it's look, I am not a Brian Kelly fan.
Speaker 7 (20:09):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (20:10):
From all the things that happened at Notre Dame the
quote unremarkable things that happened at Notre Dame. Uh, but
the team is still very good. You know, LSU will
bounce back from this. I do think Clemson bounces back,
and if you want to look at the lines, I
don't know if it's up yet, but whatever Clemson is
giving away this.
Speaker 7 (20:28):
Week, I can't remember.
Speaker 6 (20:29):
They're playing one of the some FCS team I can't
remember who it is, but they're not good at football.
Take it, yes, yes, Charleston who's actually not good at football?
So whatever the line is as the as the advice
I always give is if it's ever fifty, always take
the underdogs a million and one. Things have to happen
(20:49):
to get to fifty points. I don't care what it is,
Kake Clemson, They're just because they're gonna want They're gonna
need to do some work they need to. They're paying them.
They're paying Charleston southerns for a reason, so they're gonna
pay so just so they can get the timing down
of that offense, just so they can get that thing going. Already,
I think they're going to come out and just destroy
and tomorrow and if you look forward, it's not a
(21:13):
bad schedule. They get Florida State at home in a
couple of weeks. If they win that, then they can
right the ship and there's they're.
Speaker 7 (21:20):
Kind of back on their way.
Speaker 6 (21:21):
So I'm not LSU.
Speaker 7 (21:23):
I think a doubt at this point.
Speaker 6 (21:25):
Clemson, I'm not there yet.
Speaker 7 (21:28):
The wow do their wide.
Speaker 6 (21:29):
Receivers have to show up at some point here?
Speaker 2 (21:31):
All right?
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Pete help us out here. Tomorrow is your turn to
get to coach Michigan for a quarter while Harbaught suspended.
What's your plan offensively? What's your playing defensively? Because I
think if you're right, you have the second quarter of
tomorrow's game against NLV.
Speaker 6 (21:45):
I just keep running reverses over and over again, just
like until you could fret. Like, look, here's the thing
in college football. You can keep running the same play.
Look Nebraska and Oklahoma and Army and those old wishbone
teams did it for years where they just ran the
same place fifty five times and said, try to stop me.
I'm going to run reversus all game along on UNLV
(22:07):
until they could.
Speaker 7 (22:07):
Prove that they could stop me.
Speaker 6 (22:09):
And if I'm wrong, I'm still up thirty to nothing
after the first quarter, so I'm pretty good. And then
I'm getting you know, I'm booted to the sidelines at halftime.
So but I think I'm going to revolutionize Michigan football
with my game plan.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
Here here's another reversevent.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Boy, they looked tired, Blake or was really tired this again?
Speaker 7 (22:28):
And no kicking.
Speaker 6 (22:28):
I am not punting even if I'm in my one
yard line.
Speaker 7 (22:31):
I'm going forward on fourth down.
Speaker 6 (22:32):
Every time, just you know, just the situation will play
this one out a little bit.
Speaker 5 (22:36):
So we got taunted a little bit that Iowa's offense
actually showed up what happens in the in the battle
for the state of Iowa against Iowa State. Are we
going back to worrying about special teams and defensive scores
or do they actually have something?
Speaker 6 (22:49):
Well, we're worrying about who they got playing because this
is you know, the gambling controversy Bowl here, because apparently
Iowa was the only place where student athletes on game.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
There's nothing else to do there, Pete.
Speaker 6 (23:03):
Well, yeah, you know who else is doing that, every
other college football player and every other college athlete. But okay,
it's tapping at Iowa, all right. So but yeah, we're
so used to it being like nine to six and
first score wins and all that. I don't quite buy
the Iowa State all back full with out hundred deckers.
(23:23):
And they seem to have been hit harder by this
controversy than Iowa had. And you're right, you know, Kate
mcnamaras do an actual downfield pass that got completed, and
that's Ottawa fans are going, what's that that seems like
it's fun. Let's do that again. And they didn't really
do it the rest of the game. But that's how
they do things. It's going to be boring, it's not
(23:45):
going to be citing a brand of football.
Speaker 7 (23:47):
But I do think.
Speaker 6 (23:48):
That Iowa comes out after losing last year. I think
Iowa kind of writes this ship and I think they
get Iowa State and I always say just does not
have enough of an offense.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Yeah, the over runners are still only thirty six and
a half, so I might have overstated my excitement for
what these teams will put up.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
All right, Pete, Hey, let's close here, because this guy's
put on a show tonight. Well, I mean, unless you
have spectrum, you haven't seen it. But look Jalen Daniels
of Kansas. I mean, it's it's easy to say. He
looks like the Anthony Richardson of twenty twenty three. The
guys come out of nowhere. He was hurt last year,
always had a lot of promise, and suddenly has an
amazing skill set. You watched them make throws on the run,
(24:27):
watching him make plays with his legs. He is really legit.
And suddenly we're back to it's two thousand and seven.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Again, Kansas football is good, kind of amazing.
Speaker 6 (24:36):
Well, it's a bigger state right now, is that Illinois
Isn't you know? This is Illinois is supposed to grind
it out. They're supposed to have this great teach. I
mean last year they were amazing defensively, they were amazing
at controlling the clock, they controlled the lines, they died it,
but they walked all that NFL talent in the secondary.
They don't have Chase Brown of running back. And now
this big bad Illinois team under Britt Beelomoff kind of
(24:58):
looked a little just mediocre so far. So yeah, but Daniels.
Speaker 7 (25:05):
Add him on to the Big Twelve because look what
else you got me?
Speaker 6 (25:08):
Where are the star teams from the Big Twelve?
Speaker 7 (25:10):
They're all over the place.
Speaker 6 (25:11):
So again, Kansas is just not your speed bump of
past years. So this is a team that's going to
be a problem. I don't think they're gonna win the
Big Twelve title or anything, but certainly, as long as
he's up and running around, they're going to be very,
very good. Even their backup he was kind of Dangles
was questionable coming to this. They've got a backup who's
been around for like six years, who's pretty good too,
(25:33):
and Lance leepold what he was able to do at
Buffalo and now here at Kansas he is probably he's
that kind of proverbial best coach going. But you know,
if this is Nascar, you give him, you know, Nick
Dave in the same type of cars and let's see
who wins. He is probably the best coach that no
one really pays much attention to.
Speaker 7 (25:53):
But he's really really good.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
He's on Twitter at Pete feutech. That is at Pete Feutac.
Check out college Footballnews dot com. You are one stop
shopping for college football. It is not Pete's fault that
your school is not better at college football. Pete as
always buddy, appreciated. Man.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
We'll talk to you next week. Have a great weekend.
Speaker 6 (26:13):
It is my fault of Nebraska wins though.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Okay, Pete could never go to Nebraska again.
Speaker 5 (26:20):
Now, well, and then as soon as you go and
start throwing the Laurel Crowns, dude throws an interception into
the end zone.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Illinois comes right down on him.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Smith.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
It's all your hell, yeah, Now it's only an eleven
point lead for I Roin in his career.
Speaker 5 (26:34):
Remember when we started things thirty five minutes ago it
will say a burial.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Hey, the world's a different place, and it was thirty
five and then it was you know.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon, as we have you in the heat of
the moment getting ready for the full Week one of
the NFL. We're gonna kick things off right now as
we like to, taking a look at a big Week
one slate. We had our appetites wedded last night by
(27:15):
the Loans and the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Maybe it was a big meal.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
There's like a big Detroit It was like eating a
big half Detroit style pizza.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Meal last night. After that Lion's waiting.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
We actually did have pizza, so that worked out pretty well.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
And we had Detroit style pizza. I mean that that
was the thing. We had Detroit style pizza.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Why did you eat again when you got home?
Speaker 1 (27:35):
No, No, we had it last night and then maybe
I had it for lunch today and again today.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
I don't know, Maybe I did.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
Yeah, but don't go trying to call that Detroit style.
You're trying to upgrade Detroit. Come on, now, we.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Had last night, we had Detroit style pizza.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
How dare you we had Detroit style pizza. You're fired.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
So if Colorado and Nebraska looks like a trap game
in college football, for some reason, Colorado is only favored
by three, the line isn't really moving despite the fact
all of this money is coming down on Colorado. Twenty
five percent of all money being bet is being bet
on Colorado.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
The game.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
I'm looking at Mike in the NFL with tells me
this line doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm looking
at a team with the most talented roster in the NFL,
who oh, by the way, was in the Super Bowl
last year against a team that maybe has the least
talent or the bottom three least talented rosters in the NFL. Somehow,
the Eagles are three and a half point favorites against
(28:36):
the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
I don't understand that.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
Again makes me think it's a trap game, because there's
no reason you would see something that should say, oh yeah, Eagles, Yeah,
it's basically a field goal game against the Patriots. The
Patriots offense is terrible, right, we don't know that yet
from their off It was terrible last year. Yeah, but
it's it. It's a new day yesterday, but it's an
old day now. Come on, Ye, it's the same quarterback,
it's the same guys. Sama, match is back, it's the
(29:02):
same everything from last year. And this is an Eagles
team again coming off the Super Bowl that's also added
talent in the offseason.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Makes me think this is a trap game.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
I look at this, I go, this is a trap game,
and I'm gonna have to watch the Patriots pull this
big upset. Yeah, you know what, it doesn't make sense.
I'll take the Patriots getting three and a half points
in this game because it doesn't make any just because
I like to go forget about what I've seen. Don't
look at the number and let the number do crazy
things to you. But I see this three and a
half and I go, this should be a This should
be an Eagles walk. It should be a two touchdown
(29:33):
victory by Philadelphia. How is it only three and a
half points. I'll take the Patriots three and a half points.
Speaker 5 (29:38):
It's one of my picks for the week, no question
about it was the Patriots outright, just like you with
your Lions. I don't want the points. I don't need
the point. Tom Brady celebration, all of that energy in
the room. New offensive coordinator for the Eagles, but we
do know Bill Belichick can coach him up defensively.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
And there is a new guy in the room.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
It is Bill O'Brien comes in to try to res
the confidence, restore the man that once upon a time
was running rough shod over college football and everybody was
excited about the name.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
Matt Jones Alabama. Mack is back.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
The Giants and the Cowboys Marquee game of Sunday. Obviously
it's it's still the junior varsity game because Bill's Jets
the varsity games look at you. Uh well yeah, everybody
Sunday night. Hopefully, well I didt never know. They may
solve it for Monday. They got to solve it for
Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Rogers. Rogers may solve it.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
Jerry Jones said today, it's not a super Bowler bus season,
which is kind of weird because I feel like this
Cowboys team needs a little bit of Hey, super Bowler bust.
The crazy thing about him is he's always been too patient,
the meddling that he does. He's always just been too
patient and not wanting to turn the page or make
changes when it feels like he has to. But I'll
tell you what They're coming out of Sunday with an l.
(30:54):
The Giants are healthy, healthy. The only thing you question.
Suddenly Darren Waller is on the injured list, but is
on the injury report. But you know what, You knew
this was coming because this is where Darren Waller lives.
His name is Darren Waller. Questionable?
Speaker 2 (31:06):
All right.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
He's not gonna have a seventeen week season where he
catches one hundred and fifty passes. No, the guy's gonna
miss half the time. But it doesn't matter because this
Giants team is incredibly talented. The additions they made at
wide receiver, they are going to win this game. They
are being discounted. Brian Dable is a phenomenal head coach,
one of the best game day head coaches in the NFL.
They're gonna have new offensive wrinkles ready to go. Everybody
(31:30):
is sleeping on them. They know it's a big chance
them to grab the New York and NFL spotlight. Give
me the Giants thirty one to twenty four, Daniel Jones three.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Touchdowns in the win.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
You are flying past that over under a forty five
and a half. But yeah, it's another home dog that
you like, the setup, the fact that Waller who's the
number one, who will be like not quite to the
Kelsey levels or the Mark Andrews what he's meant to
Baltimore these years, but brought him in and the rapport
(31:59):
with Daniel Jones was immediate. But you do have other
players that are coming in high at and others that
are gonna be able to make some plays downfield. And
if they can get the run game going or at
least suck up the linebackers to where the middle of
the field is exposed, some opportunity is there for some
jail breaks, uh, for dables offense. So I hate being
in agreement with you for our second string game, But
(32:22):
you know, I have the Giants going to the Super
Bowl and that long road begins with clubbing their division
rival on Sunday Night football.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
I mean, it really is.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
It's gonna be something, and it's gonna be panic in
Dallas on money? Is there panic already? Dak Prescott if
he struggles, Oh, it's gonna be it's gonna be def
Con four already for the Cowboys on Monday.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
Dash, How I brought the two by four back to
the to the front of things.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Oh you did blubbing the Cowboys? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
And you didn't sneak it in.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
You you brought it in like everybody knew you had
the two by four waiting.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
Oh well I had to. I just say, all right,
it's kind of like the false star chest. I'm daring
you to call it. I'm daring you, and then you
actually call it when the game's in the balance, which
makes no sense. But you know, hey, we've won't been
on that side watching softball and soccer results in the past.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
So there it is.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
Our first upset specials of the year for Week one.
Coming up next, Who's going to be the NFL MVP?
Speaker 2 (33:21):
This is Fox Sports Radio.
