Tirerac dot com the way tire buying should be. So
here's where we are right now. The Bills have the
ball facing a first and twenty Stefan Diggs with just

(01:00):
called for offensive pass interference pushing off Sauce Garden. The
Bills have led a lot of time tick off the
clock here, even though they do have it.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
They did have a timeout. They got the one again
Zach Wilson, the ball back with time.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
They got the ball back with about a buck forty
five left to go, and now there's thirty five seconds
left to go. It is first and twenty for the Bills.
They completed a couple of passes. They are on their
side of midfield. Stefan Diggs caught a pass for about
fourteen yards and then Josh Allen went right back to
him for a completion for about twelve except push off

(01:35):
by Digs. You can see it on the replay. The
referees flag flew right away and this was a penalty
that pushed the Bills back. He has just completed another
pass to Stefon Diggs. The Bills have the ball. Now
it's gonna be second down and about six Stefan Diggs
signaling for a first down. When he's about eight yards
short of the first down. The Bills call their final

(01:56):
time out of the game, so we have time to
take our breath here for a second, d J Reid
was on Stefan Diggs. Reid was not there. Diggs turns around.
They're moving him around the field so he's not always
matched up against Sauce Gardner. Looks like this is pitch
and catch with him and Digs. That's where the football's going.
And right now the Bills are a little bit outside
of field goal range. I would say they're about maybe

(02:18):
ten or twelve yards into a makeable field goal. But
again they use their final timeout twenty nine seconds left
to go. The Jets lead this sixteen thirteen, and of
course they have played the vast majority of this game
without Aaron Rodgers, who left on the fourth play of
the game with what could be a very serious ankle
or achilles injury. We won't know until an MRI tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Yeah, all the Internet doctors have gotten together and they've
thrown everything like it's the Waki game of operation. A
lot of glowing parts on the body of Aaron Rodgers
right now as to what could be the injury, So
we'll await that in the interim. You've gotten a really
game effort out of the Jets squad. In his absence,

(03:02):
Zach Wilson's completed two thirds of his pass attempts. You've
seen the run game, myriad options there, Brese Hall, the explosiveness,
Dalvin Cook coming up with some big runs, and you've
seen Michael Carter with a couple of big runs and
a couple of big blocks.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
Right.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
So you've had a full team effort. Robert Sala has
got to be pleased with the intestinal fortitude, because a
lot of times you have those injuries, the emotion goes
right back out of you. No, they had a lot
of fight, and you've seen some tremendous work here and
vexing of this Buffalo offense. Josh Allen with four turnovers
on the night.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
The Bills have the ball the Jets thirty two yard line,
sixteen seconds left. He's been looking for Stefan Diggs exclusively,
except now he throws a deep ball to Gabe Davis. Wow,
that did not make a lot of sense. Third and
ten for the Bill because they're in the edge of
field goal forty nine yarder is certainly makeable. But you

(04:00):
had enough time there to get the ball middle. If
you're thinking field goal at this point, you had to
tell you want to get the ball middle of the field,
spike it, and then bring Tyler Bassen for a more
makeable field goal. So now I got to think, now
it's a third and ten where you can't throw the
ball to the middle of the field.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
Well, the cass there might have been a little bit
of all right, we've been going underneath with with Digs
time and again that maybe we can catch a one
on one situation with Davis. Instead he had a trio
of us back with him and the safety flying over
the top. But you know any of the off season
chatter about Digs slash Josh Allen in their relationship. They

(04:37):
showed the shot when they were geting ready to get
the ball back, Digs coming over grabbing Allan. You know,
I got you and whatever. And you look at the
number of targets over the course of the night. We're
up into double digits with great success. Nine catches, ninety
two yards and a score. And now you're in position
where I mean, bass has a big leg that we
know obviously you'd like to make it more comfortable than

(05:00):
where you're sitting right now. The ball on the jets
thirty two.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
I mean, it's just you. You've turned it.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
You've turned it to the point where you can't throw
the ball in the middle of the field because you're
not gonna have enough time because you only have ten seconds.
You're not you're not throwing this middle of the field,
getting up and spiking it. It's not happening. So you
got to throw it to the side and hopefully the
Jets defense is guarding it that way, and you're forcing
at least pass to kick to kick something from fifty
yards out of bounds throw by Josh Allen. The Jets

(05:28):
had it defended great. So now you're talking about a
forty nine yard field goal here on fourth down miss
end the game to open it in the pre game, guys,
sixty yards in pregame, a Christy, this is forty nine
yards of the game on the line. It hands there
during the pregame. It's a little bit different, all left.
Once Aaron Rodgers win, it's a little bit different. It's
a little bit different.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
His name is Tyler Bass.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Smashberger, I mean made, I mean, I mean, look, maybe
he makes it, but you you really just hurt yourself
and made it much more difficult than it had to be.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
So forty nine.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yard it's gonna be actually officially from fifty for Tyler
Bass to tie this game and send it into overtime.

Speaker 6 (06:07):
And Bass, goods god, he he doinks it off the
left upright.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
In five points from my fantasy's goad, Baby, he get
those fives up. He doinks it off the left upright
from fifty. This is Jets football. This is how it
goes for the never in doubt. This is how it
goes for the Jets. Has he hammered it? It is
high up the upright, It hits off the adjust on
the inside, it hits the red flag on the top

(06:38):
and deflex through. That's how it works for the Jets.
Watching your face during this jet, because we got that.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Video.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
I'm watching the kick going. He's gonna miss it. It's
he pulled it. He pulled it, and it hits the
upright and bounces, hits the upright and bounces through. This
is jets, Tyler Bass. We're going to overtime most likely.
There's still a couple of seconds left on the clock,
but it is sixteen sixteen.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Maybe Aaron Rodgers will come back.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Going overtime, you know, it could be going long enough.
But look at Zach Wilson. He's ready for overtime. He's
ready for over. He's got his uh William zab could ahead,
man Doney, he's.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
Ready to go. I mean that is, I mean that
is I mean you're I don't know know what to say.
You mismanaged jets. That's jets. There's no question they mismanaged that.
That's jets. Football. They deserve to miss for mismanaging that.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
But instead, no, no, no, we make it because we're
the Bills and you're the Jets, And that's how it goes.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Now it's still a fifty yard field Oh that's makeable
in the NFL, right, that's not I mean it's not
an easy kick.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
But Bass and so many.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Others hit fifty yards. Yeah, regular, But that's a lot
more difficult than it needed. Sure, you could go middle
of the field for another fifteen yards, get up, spike it,
and now it's a it's a thirty five yard field goal.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Okay that now you're going over. Now you're going overtime.

Speaker 5 (07:54):
Although I do like the box of hey, I'm going
to Davis over the top because if we drop it
in there, I can drop this in, we score a touchdown,
and I absolutely get to take out whatever pulse is remaining.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Jason, that kick was so difficult and hit the post
and went in.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Yeah, yeah, no, yeah, it was thanks. That's how it goes.
That's how it goes. Zach Wilson kneels on the football.
The final two seconds will take off the clock. Jets
and the Bills are going to overtime. Tied at sixteen.
Of course, the big story four plays in to his
Jets career. Aaron Rodgers is hurt. Is he hurt really badly?
Well depends if you like to look on the internet.
You think is done. He's never gonna play again. He

(08:32):
gets hurt and he hurts his ankle on the fourth
play of the game. He is in trouble the first
possession of the game for the Bills. Defensively, they sent
a lot of players at him. He gets hit on
this play. Looks like his ankle gets a little stuck
in the turf and twists. It could be an ankle,
could be an achilles. It's we won't know until tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
This is something that we know up.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Till now is that Aaron Rodgers did walk under his
own power. Though they did bring the cart out for
him to take him off the field and X rays
on his anks. He got out the cart right and
X rays on it, But he got off the cart
and he was walking under his own power. He wasn't
helped by anybody. And more importantly, Rogers, the X rays
on his ankle were negative. So there is That doesn't
mean it's not doesn't mean it's not serious, doesn't mean

(09:18):
it's not soft tissue. It means we won't know until tomorrow,
until there's an MRI. Of course, I'm bracing for the
worst because it's the Jets. This is how it goes.
Of course, we have Aaron Rodgers for four plays. You
know what it reminds me of. Honestly, I told you
ninety nine.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
I remember.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
I think it was the opening day for the Jets
in twenty eleven, twenty twelve, maybe might have been twenty twelve,
when the Jets had Chris Jenkins in the middle of
their defensive one one of the best defensive linemen in football,
but his last couple of years of the Jets, it
was he would hurt, get hurt, and end be out
for a long time. And I remember going into this,
going into the opener, I feared who they were playing

(09:53):
was Monday Night Football, might have been, might have been
the Ravens, might have been the Cowboys, Ravens of Cowboys.
And I said to myself, well, and they're talking a
lot about Chris Jenkins, Chris Jenks about I'm going how
long is Chris Jenkins really gonna play? How long is
he really gonna play? And I think it was three
plays until he got hurt. He was done for the season,
and I think that was the end of his career
with the Jets. So it's like it's like with Aaron Rodgers.

(10:13):
I'm looking at it like, Okay, here's Aaron Rodgers and
now four plays and now who knows when he's gonna play.

Speaker 5 (10:19):
No, but that's the thing, right at this point, any
game he would play for you the rest of the
year has found money. Right, it would be a happy accident,
because I think we all after watching that multiple times,
after seeing all of the people who have worked in
and around NFL teams that comment on this stuff, the
expectation is you're not seeing him again, except with a

(10:40):
headset to take over for Robert sala Man.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. Oh I need better music than this. I
need better music than this. No stop stop, do not
rain on my parade. Not now, no, no, no, give
me something good.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
And if you play tears for Fears, I'll take your
head off and drink blood out of a boot. No no, no, no, no, no,
no no no no no.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
You can have him.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
No, give me something gimme No, No, I really will.
I will drink your blood out of a boot, just
like Jack Reacher out of Aaron Rodgers's boot. Give me
something better than that, Give me something better, Give me
something better than this.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
Oh? How did they not call that leg whip?

Speaker 1 (11:32):
I'm still calling for the p I on the final
play of their own bank you blank you clutching rabbing,
holding thank you, hands holding jersey.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
If it was a tear away, he would have had us. Hey,
whyet bike? You plee? Quiet bike? You bike? You get
that call?

Speaker 1 (11:52):
Oh, poor Stefon Diggs, buy your breath.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
See you in Buffalo, see you in Buffalo?

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Rigged?

Speaker 4 (12:00):
Was this in the script?

Speaker 1 (12:02):
So after the first possession by the Bills, I had
to go to the bathroom.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
So I went to the bathroom.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Jets stopped the Bills on third down they were punting.
I walked by all the guys in the edit bay
will back me up on this. They will come in
on the air saying, what do you think? I said,
how about a Xavier Gibson punt return for touchdown? Yeah,
but that's how we do. What do you think you
guys gonna do? He's gonna hit a home run. You
never said he's gonna strike down. You got a ball
down and away in the zone. You know the last

(12:30):
time the Jets returned a punt for a touch I
think it was. I think it was Chad Morton was
the last guy to return a punt for the touch
or a touchdown by the Jets. Dated reference. What is
that five years ago? Yes, Johnny Morton's younger brother. So
I said, how about e Xavier Gibson punt return for
a touchdown? Xavier Gibson one of the stars of Hard Knocks, right,
they documented him making the team, him and him and brownly,

(12:53):
Oh is a great story. Look, Gibson comes in undrafted,
what a great dude all comes in? I said, how
about Exavier Gibson return for a touchdown? Boy, that'd be something.
All the Jets needer points because they stopped the Bills
on the first three plays of overtime.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
The Bills punted in the middle of the field to
Xavier Gibson.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
And what happened this yes, silence, no play it, no
play it? And whatever happened to directional punch? O? You
better know play it? Play it if you get what
are you gonna get no play it, no no no.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
Sometimes you go back to the classic no no, no
no ox. So you know what, here's the thing, here's
the thing, just real quick before.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Are they too busy jumping up and down and running
back and forth? Might be I could get that cut up.
I ran like a lunatic.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
You're out of breath.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
We gotta get we gotta get back on a cardios.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
I'm still out of breath now, I really am. I was.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
You know it would hold off of the Zavier Gibson
because I want to explain something here, because I think
we don't have it anyway, because I think maybe something
thing even greater happened for the Jets tonight. Zach Wilson
is no no, no, no, no, yea, let's go now.
He gave everybody help and now he is victorious.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
Stop yelling, Stop yelling, stop yelling. Why I could hear
you through the closing doors.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
He's a bulletproof and soundproof glass, and you're screaming like
a luna to get.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
In the hall. I'm on air trying to excite America.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
I'm not I'm not exciting America. I'm not talking about
the Jets. What are you doing that was the game.
That's a game that was going on. Xavier Gibson punt
return for a touchdown Jets win nineteen thirteen. I told
the guys in the edit bay, how about Xavier Gibson
punt return for a touchdown?

Speaker 4 (14:44):
He's running it back and I'm screaming, go, go, go go.
And then I did the Joe thigsmailed no penalties, don't
hold him, don't hold no holds, no holding, no holding. Win.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
He scores, the Jets win, and I'm running around crazy.
I'll put a video up on social media in a
few minutes. And here's what I'm thinking, right, because here's
something of why it's got even bigger. What happened to
help the Jets win the game tonight? Josh Allen, with
the Jets game tied in the final few minutes, fumbles

(15:17):
a snap, picks it up, tries to run. What does
he do? He runs into his own blocker and he fumbles,
and the Jets recover, kick a field goal, Bills kick
a field goal to go overtime. But still Josh Allen
not quite the butt fumble because he ran into his
own player, but he didnt run into.

Speaker 4 (15:33):
The butt of a player.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
But you had the Jets butt fumble back in twenty twelve,
and it's been nothing but awfulness from there on. Now,
maybe the curse has been lifted because they actually benefited
from a butt fumble.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
And they went on to win the game. The curse
might be over, and maybe it is. I think that
means it be over.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
For the next two and a half hours here on
Fox Sports Radio, we have to talk about the Bills
and what this means for their franchise looking forward, because
the better story is in the losing knocking line.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Aaron Rodgers got hurt. He's bob bit and missed the
whole sex. That's already done. We've already talked about that.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
That's done, already done. We already talked about that. It's done.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Now we move forward. What does this mean for the
Bills moving forward? Jets have their quarterback. He's ready, Zach Saxacka.
It's the Zack attack.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
It's Wilson to Wilson, It's the Wilson brothers, whatever we're
gonna call him. I don't know. It's Wilson Phillips. I
wasn't gonna go the quite that's j If you hold
on for one more day. It's Wilson Phil.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
And they were able to hold on and they get
a victory today. So I mean that's fine. Jets are fine.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
The Bills. The ship is burning better story, No, not
even close. Well, mention the bills for America. A much
bigger deal about the Bills ups western New York.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
And look, I went to school there. I'm from that
upstate central New York region. I'm trying to look at
from America. Oh really, Okay, that's what I'm doing here. Yeah,
people care more about the Bills and about Aaron Rodgers.
But it's not about Aaron Rodgers anymore. He's hurt, he's done,
it's still it's still not about him. It's about what's
left in his weight.

Speaker 4 (17:12):
It's gonna be about Aaron and how they battle through.

Speaker 5 (17:15):
With the Bills with to a tongue of Iloa and
the Dolphins and Alabama back Jason.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
Jets lose this game with Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 5 (17:26):
Yeah, okay, now they might have Okay, you don't know now,
I mean it plays differently.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
Yeah, but here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
I'm looking at the scoreboard right now, and it's a
final score in the Jets one because.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
They had Zach Wilson. But Zack Wilson was brilliant.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Okay, really really Okay, so now you got now you
know what, you guys got to stick with that.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Then if you say Zach Wilson is brilliant, no playing
the Okay, you ran away from him as fast as
you could. There's a shiny new toy. Zach steaks because
you guys, sudden you're reaching into the garner.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Because if you guys got it, I can unburn it
if you guys want to find a way, right, didn't.
You got to stick with Zach Wilson is great. You
can't give me he's terrible. Next one terrible? No, no, no, no,
he's great when he throws the moment. No no, I'm living
in the moments. How great Zach Wilson was when he
throws four picks with the Jets against the the Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
Next week, you have to say how great he is.
I'm not saying is he's great? He's great? Super Bowl?
Jets lie in Super Bowl? Still there? Jets lie in
Super Bowl? Still there? What are the Jets? Seriously? Okay,
now you want to get serious for a second.

Speaker 5 (18:33):
I was gonna say, you really went out a left
turn into absurd and you.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
Want to you want to get serious for a second.
You watched tonight.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
The Bill's a pretty good team, right, super Bowl favorite
I talked about maybe their window is closing. I don't
think it's quite as wide open as as people think
it is. It's the Bills aren't just this great team.
Every year they've had chances, They've had different personnel. Josh
Allen from the beginning of last year to now isn't
the same quarterback. Turns the ball over a lot since

(19:00):
the most right, but the last couple of years has
been really rough for him turning the ball over. He's
not been the same quarterback. So I think the Bills
windows a little bit more shut than people think it is.
But it doesn't matter. This is still a team that
was coming in Super Bowl hopes, great quarterback, great receiver
in Stefawn Diggs. They were going to win this game.
What did the Jets show you that with a quarterback

(19:23):
with no reps for the last few weeks can come
in and the Jets can play a game of great defense,
terrific running backs with Breese Hall and Dalvin Cook. And
I was kidding last hour when I said you can.
But that's how the Jets can win. They can treat
it like it's nineteen eighty five. A great defense, you
give the ball a ton to Breeze Hall, a ton
of Dalvin Cook. Now, it's a lot of stress to

(19:44):
put on a game and a team to win a
certain way. But when you can do that because you
have that great defense, you have two of the best
running backs in football, you can win that way.

Speaker 4 (19:52):
But the Ravens are done.

Speaker 5 (19:57):
I mean, you can't tell me that the forty nine
or have exactly been winging the ball all over the
field the last couple of years. It's been predicated on
running the ball and playing good defense. The Steelers, even
in the Ben Roethlisberger, even if the total numbers were there,
they were still predicated on a good ground game and
a defense to help hold the day.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
So, yeah, it just makes it tougher to win.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
Sure, margin for error is not that's right, right, you
get down sixteen to six, suddenly you're not gonna win
that much.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
Well, but you know that puts more on your defense.

Speaker 5 (20:27):
So if it's all about, you know, being lost in
the sauce and tonight you've got a hat trick of interceptions.
I mean, you've got you've got an opportunity to maybe
do some great things. Yeah, are they gonna be Do
they have the great sex appeal game to game?

Speaker 4 (20:42):
No?

Speaker 5 (20:43):
Are you gonna run out and score thirty points a game? No,
But you can grind out wins in this league as
long as Legatron stops knuckleball in the damn thing like
he did today. I mean, how many times did you
sweat when when Zerline went to kick? And I don't
know how much of that is the field soggy versus
something just wrong with the hold and how he's striking

(21:04):
the ball, but some anxious moments in the kicking game.
But defensively, you're gonna be in every game, right, You've
got at every level, You've got playmakers, and Williams just
just roughs everything. And now you add Whitehead being able
to be a ballhawk down the center of the field.
Gardner gets away with whatever, he gets away with it.

(21:24):
We saw that on display again tonight. That's fine, call
him like he's an all pro and all world guy,
that's fine. But that gives you a competitive advantage. So
as long as Zach Wilson doesn't get put in situation
where he's got to force the ball down field. Because
did we really talk about any other wide receiver for
them tonight? Noach, it was Garrett Wilson. Five catches, thirty

(21:47):
thirty four yards, and that's really it, right, We didn't
really talk about any other wide receivers. It's the run game,
it's the defense, and Garrett Wilson on the tip to himself.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
So this is now a pretty decent formula. Now, how
good is Zach Wilson? Will Philip Rivers to play for you? Guys?

Speaker 4 (22:06):
Will Carson went Sam ready to come play?

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Guy Philip Rivers gets called and gets signed to this team,
you should immediately give in your fan card because that
would be about the worst move you could do. Come on,
he's better than Zach Wilson at this point in his life.
Come on, I don't know. You have to try, dude.
Jack Wilson was not great. He made a couple of
nice if you're going in the open market and the

(22:29):
guy and.

Speaker 4 (22:33):
Braid braid no question.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Now a day after making his I'm a Patriot for
life skime, Now, let's let that become a jet.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
Let let let's do that.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
Here's what let let's do this coming up in the
next few minutes. You get all the top backup quarterbacks
and quarterbacks available, and I'll say yeay or nay if
the Jets should go get them. Okay, let let let's
do that. But the Jets win it twenty two to
sixteen over the Bills. Yes, I called it, howbut Xavier
Gibson putt return for a touchdown and it happened. I'm

(23:03):
now back look at the Jets. I'm gonna buy all
kinds of Jets geared tonight, new Jets geared tonight. That's
weird because none of us heard you call it. Uh
you want to every get get everybody from the edit bay.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
They say they don't know.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
And actually everybody else who was outside the say heavy
door because you've never heard of them.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
You could hear me all the way to Durable. You
could hear me all the way to Ensura Boulevard.

Speaker 5 (23:22):
Keeople in the uh Hot yoga studio was wondering, awhile,
I'll have you know what's going on over there?

Speaker 1 (23:27):
We have an earthquake. No Jason Smith called a putt
return for a touchdown by the Jets. Why is there
a three year old crying in the hallway? Here's how
it sounded, and you better play it this time and.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Getting away a line drive kick of Sam Mary tell
a bot which runs under it that the ten thirty
five starts to his left, gets to the Furton.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
Turns the corner hot the forty cop Fuck?

Speaker 5 (23:47):
Is it cut half?

Speaker 4 (23:48):
The forarning hot? The pills thirty picks out the tony stun.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
A step to the ten to the pod touchdown.

Speaker 4 (23:57):
It's a Jet touchdown?

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Is over? What a wait?

Speaker 4 (24:03):
Then Monday Night football, Gipson's gonna click this. We're back
sixty through large rint it next down one of the
last players to.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Make the Jet roster out of training camp.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
Just cook it to the house to win it and over
time for the Jets.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
Bob was shoosing Jets Radio network on the call. You
know who the happiest person in the world is right now?
Happiest person in the world was he calling the game
from his mom's basement. It doesn't matter where he travels
a lot, Bob, he travels a lot. Uh Hard knocks,
because Hard Knocks is saying, oh, we spotlighted that guy
in the whole last episode making the team they spent.

Speaker 5 (24:41):
Halfway, Well, they wouldn't have if they'd done the old formula.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
Half the episode on Xavier Gibson and and and Jason
Browne making the team. And here's Gibson, the hero of
the week in the NFL, returning there because the Jets
their special teams are terrible. The special teams are not
very good. And to get a punt return or a
kick return for typ you don't get them. You get
you get one or two punt and kick returns for
a touchdown a year.

Speaker 4 (25:02):
Now.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
I mean you put the over under at total number
of punt and kick returns at three, you're you're fortunate
if you get the over. You just don't get those anymore.
They just don't happen. All the kickoffs go through the
end zone, and punt returns are very difficult. And so
now especially with directional kicking and what what But that's
what I want to ask, the hell you're kicking it
straight down the field?

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Come on, man, you got no, no, no. You know
why you don't directional kick?

Speaker 1 (25:25):
That is because Martin is the Bills are back in
their own end and if they try a directional kick
and they miss, you give them the ball at midfield.
You want to try to punt that as far as
you can and try to get down there and cover it.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
Well, it still was only a what sixty yard return?

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Right, But if you try a directional kick and you
miss and it goes out of you're talking about the
Jets completing two passes to kick a field goal. Huh,
it's okay, let's let's uh, well, it is two passes
with Zach Wilson. Yes, you are I was trying to
make you you are right. Yes, rewind that in your brain.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
You are right.

Speaker 5 (25:53):
There's nothing I hate more watching NFL game, and not
just because this ends up in a punt return for
a touchdown and you in my worst nightmare of having
the glory of a victory because it was supposed to
be a sullen march after Aaron Rodgers got hurt, and
instead you're in the game and you get a victory.
But it is the kick straight down the field. Make

(26:16):
the guy move, may go, try to judge a fly
ball right and give your coverage seam a chance. Instead
straight up, he feels it and no one's dearing and
gets a full head of steam before the first run
onslaught of attackers. I don't know, bad decision, even worse coverage,

(26:37):
and when it's all said and done, we get a
moment to end what was one of the stranger weak
ones in the National Football League we've seen in sometimes
the nose shows, the runovers. Aaron Rodgers gets hurt and
Josh Allen forgot how to complete a pass.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
We are just getting this in now. Step just say
you're will have more than that's coming up in a second.
You're gonna hear from Robert Sala at the podium coming
up in a few minutes. But here's what he says
right now about Aaron Rodgers injury. Again, this is just
coming in now. It is an achilles injury for Aaron Rodgers.
He does not have any details, but he said it's

(27:14):
not good. This is what we know. This is from
Robert Sola just moments ago. Aaron Rodgers injury. It is
an achilles injury and it's not good.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 7 (27:32):
But sorry, well sorry, Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Hugh, Aaron Rodgers,
if you want to talk about a well Okay, mixed emotions.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
Wait, what are these mixed emotions?

Speaker 1 (27:49):
You have the Jets tonight, as I in all of
America celebrates the twenty two to sixteen overtime win Xavier
Gibson's punt return doing it hard knock star Xavier Gibson.
Now with the sobering news that Aaron Rodgers injury, which
he suffered on the fourth play of the game, is
an achilles injury, and it is not good, according to

(28:09):
Jet's head coach Robert Solop. So that's mixed emotions. That's
the How do you look it up in the dictionary
and see that mixed emotions and you will see that.

Speaker 5 (28:17):
Either that it's a nice review of the classic Rolling
Stones album, which I think is much better than most
give it credit.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yeah, so let's hear from Robert Sola real quick. Here's
him making that announcement on his post on the podium
at his postgame press conference. More will be known tomorrow,
but here's Robert Sola from just a few moments ago.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
All right, I'll deal with the quarterback real quick.

Speaker 7 (28:42):
Concerned with his achilles MRI is probably going to confirm
what we think is already gonna happen so prayers tonight.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
But it's not good. So there it is achilles injury.
It's not good. Look at he got through without cursing
when it.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
Well, well I think he knows. Now I can't really care.
I'll get fined if I curse get I'll get fine.
Efficker because it's this is not Hard Knocks where it's
HBO and on cable. This is stuff that gets played
and is.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
You can it is on cable.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
Yeah, for those I mean, because they came to a deal,
so folks might have seen it one they did.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
They did, and right now, Spectrum's going, Ah for four plays.
We did that for Aaron Rodgers. You got going make
it four plays. We're taking it away from you all again.
Now now forget it now, Disney, we're taking that back.
We don't need this anymore because Aaron Rodgers not playing. Uh. Look,
Rogers is done. You heard Salah. He's not expecting something

(29:34):
great likely he has done for the season. Now we'll
get to what's next for the Jets. But let's talk
about this for a second, because this is a really
big deal. Aaron Rodgers is thirty nine years old and
he is coming off and he's going to be coming
off some kind of man. We don't know if it's
a tear, whatever it is, but he is going to
be coming off major Achilles injury. Does he continue to play?

(29:57):
He said the other day, I want to play it
along forty five, which you shouldn't say that. Don't say.
Don't say, you know, what's the old phrase? You make
plans and God laughs, right, like, don't tell you want
to play to forty five. Don't say you want to
play at forty five.

Speaker 4 (30:09):
Don't do it.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
This is a real serious thing because now he's got
to love wanting to come back, wanting to play, being
able to do it. And yes, there is a lot
of money he has due for next year, but thirty nine,
coming off a real serious Achilles, it's up in the air.
If he ever plays for the Jets. I mean, let's
be honest, is he ever gonna play for the Jets?
I mean, I don't know that he does. Will he

(30:32):
try to come back? I'm sure he will, Will he
be the same? It's gonna be really hard for me
to say, Okay, at forty years old, coming off the
most major injury you can, you're gonna come back and
play now, Vinny Testaverdi when he was almost that old.
We've talked about nineteen ninety nine because it's exactly what
happened to the Jets in ninety nine, and take you back.
You know twenty some odd years the Jets are had

(30:53):
a super Bowl type season. They coming off the AFC
Championship Game in ninety eight against the Broncos. It was
supposed to be a Super Bowl or bust year. And
Vinnie testa Verdi was in his late thirties at the time.
I mean, he's he could still play now, even though
he's like eighty. Toris Achilles. On a handoff there was
a fumble he jumped to get at Torris' achilles. He
was out for the rest of the season. He came back,

(31:15):
and he came back and played a little bit in
two thousand, but he wasn't quite the same. The Jets
drafted Chad Pennington and then in two thousand and one,
two thousand, they made that push in two thousand and one,
two thousand and two, so they brought testa Verdi back,
but he wasn't quite the same quarterback. Now this is again,
this is twenty four years ago, and now medical advancements

(31:35):
are out there, but you gotta be prepared that. I mean,
I don't know. If you ask me right now, do
I ever see Aaron Rodgers play quarterback for the Jets again?

Speaker 4 (31:44):
I would say yeah, but it would be a yeah,
but maybe not because you move on. I don't know
what kind of situation.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
Because if they like Zach Wilson and he's gonna play
all year, you're gonna know if Zack's good enough to
play next year and mary Aaron Rodgers comes back, maybe
he doesn't. But what like the Jets have to go forward.
If Zach Wilson stinks and and this season turns into
something really weird, they know that they got to get
another quarterback. Do you go sign do you draft somebody?
Do you go out and get a middle of the

(32:14):
road guy, Do you go get a veteran that's gonna start?
And if Aaron Rodgers comes back? I mean, you got
all these questions. I would say, it's it's I mean,
I don't want to I mean fifty to fifty. But
if you ask me if Aaron Rodgers plays for the
Jets again, I would like to say yes, but I'm
not confident in it because I don't again being thirty
nine coming off this, he's not been had a bad injury.

(32:36):
This is really really difficult. He didn't have a big
preseason to go through things, and now you're talking about
four snaps and he ruptures his achilles.

Speaker 5 (32:44):
Now, this reminds me of a little situation they had
where he had myriad injuries and you know the last
place he played, and what did they do.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
They eventually drafted a quarterback.

Speaker 5 (32:53):
And everybody was mad about it, and he goes out
and has a couple of MVP seasons. Now I'm not
gonna crown Jordan Love because he did play against the Bears,
but he acquitted himself quite nicely in the season debut.
But people were mad. Eventually, you've got to start looking
down the road. Most of these teams that have had
long standing successful quarterbacks, that's the one part of the

(33:14):
game plan. It was, we're gonna ride this until it
doesn't work anymore. Pittsburgh did it with Ben Roethlisberger. The
Chargers did it with Philip Rivers. The Packers, after watching
what happened when Rogers got hurt the collarbone stuff and
Brent Huntley had to play, derailing what looked like a
pretty good team. They said, we're not gonna do this
again for the Jets to go into whatever they could

(33:37):
do now. And we'll go through the list of veteran
quarterbacks and backups that are out there, because really, pick
your champion out of this group, including maybe a former
Jet who still wants to play football, but we'll get
to him in a minute. You can't kick the can
down the road with the roster as currently constructed, young guys,
because that's what you got in a lot of these spaces.

Speaker 4 (33:58):
Right.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
Forget about Dalvin Cook for a minute. A lot of
these other guys are still on their rookie deals. You
don't want to lose the opportunity to try to grasp
the brass ring while they're still young, still under team control, etc.
And so looking at it for next year, I'm gonna
roll the dice that a forty year old guy is
gonna come back off a major injury where his mobility

(34:21):
was already being questioned, and now he comes back off
this part of what made him so elite for years
is gone. No, I've got to start looking down the
road to what's next, whether it's Zach Wilson or Option
B via the draft, or somewhere else.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
So there it is the news justin. Aaron Rodgers a
serious achilles injury. It's not good. The Jets will know
more tomorrow, after an MRI and after they're done celebrating
the twenty two to sixteen win over the Bills in overtime.

Speaker 5 (34:52):
I can look like a Taylor Swift concert afterwards with
all the flashlights up. Yeah, or fireflies for Bray Wyatt.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
Mixed emotions, Mixed emotions. More on this big breaking story
coming up next. Keep it right here, Jason and Mike.
