the way tire buying should be. Jason, Hey, you can
apologize to Wilson way. I've always loved Zach Wilson. You
guys got it all twisted when it went bed. You
cut here him loose. You didn't see what I said
because he just jumped in. I said, you got it twisted, mister,

(01:04):
right after we placed twisted system. But you had to
yell got it louds I've always loved Zach. No, no,
you have always loved it. No, no, no, that's that
you kid cutting up. You cannot Jersey one Zack Wilson,
by the way, okay, number one, stop I maybe after
mom stop. I never burned to Zach Wilson Jersey okay, allegedly, Okay,

(01:26):
there's no evidence of me burning in. There's no trust me,
there's none. There's none. You try to find somewhere in
the last couple of years, or I've said something bad
about Zach Wilson on the air, Go ahead, try to
find it.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
You're not gonna find it.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Really, I don't believe this is easy to find his
uh falk off win.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
You can't find you can't find it. You can't find it.
We don't save stuff here more than for like eight seconds.
We don't probably don't have Robert sla talking about his
injury anymore because it gets deleted out of our system.
That's gone. I've always loved Zach Wilson. I've always loved
and I have no choice but to love Zach Wilson.
As we heard from Robert salb One a few moments ago,
the injury to Aaron Rodgers four snaps as a Jet

(02:08):
and he goes down with what is now being called
an achilles injury by the Jets head coach. He says
it's not good. They will know more tomorrow. Let's hear
that Robert Sala sound bite again, Ty shir. Let's get
that Robert sal again. Here he is from a few
moments ago, giving the devastating news following an emotional, incredible
Jets victory.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
All right, I'll deal with the quarterback real quick. Concerned
with his achilles.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
MRI is probably going to confirm what we think is
already going to happen, So prayers tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
But it's not good.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
So he's insinuating quot Now he's not Aaron Rodgers at
the quarterback because we got to go with somebody else.
Now he's that quarterback. Looks like he's going to be
done for the year. And we talked a few minutes
ago about Rogers coming back and playing. And remember this year,
he deferred money to next year, so he's got he's
got a big conscience, had a lot of money coming
next year. But this is now a thirty nine year
old Aaron Rodgers trying to come back and play again.

(03:01):
In the NFL. We talked about how hard it is
if you ask me if if he'll if he'll play
any another snap for the Jets, I guess say I don't.
We may have seen him play his last one. He
may be four, he may be four snaps out, because yes,
his age is a big deal. But the one thing
you can see with with players with Achilles injuries, when
you get to be this age, you don't get back

(03:23):
to being the player you were. You get back to
as close as you can to being the player you were. Right,
we talked about Vinie Testaverd. He happened to the Jets
twenty years ago. Torris Achilles came back to try to play.
The next couple of years wasn't quite the same. That
Jets drafted a new quarterback and Chad Pennington came in
and played for a while. The thing about Rogers is
is that Rogers, and you know, Rogers, can say what
he wants to about how how he thinks his career

(03:44):
is going to go the next few years. But the
Jets weren't hoping Aaron Rodgers are going to show up
and be the Aaron Rodgers of the MVP. From a
couple of years ago, because those days are likely gone.
They were hoping he would be something close to his
MVP performance. I was home hoping if you said, what's
the ceiling for Aaron Rodgers this year, I would say,
if he's a periphery top ten quarterback, I'll take that.

(04:07):
I mean periphery top ten quarterback I will take because
that's great for the Jets because that's all they need
because they're loaded everywhere else. Now you're talking about a
guy who going into this year you would hope to
be a periphery top ten quarterback. Now he's going to
come back after an achilles injury that's going to keep
him out, you know, for most of for the rest
of this year, all the way through the offseason, and
now you're hoping he comes back to being close to

(04:28):
what you were hoping he'd be this year. So now
if I'm thinking, I'm looking at Rogers coming back and
being close to the quarterback I was hoping he was
going to be and it wasn't the MVP Aaron Rodgers again,
is he really going to play for the Jets again?

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Well, let me throw this caveat two things, because it
really just blowing my mind just thinking about it. If
there was ever a guy to go find some random
alternate treatment to get his ass back, he's already getting it.
I guarantee he's the guy. He's already I want the
documentary is screw hard knocks, the fact that he went
and visited Broadway and all this other stuff and love

(05:04):
saber tooth and all these other things. Let's go, let's
do the chronicling of the people he seeks out. I mean,
it's like Benjamin Bratt and doctor Strange. You go finding
stuff into Amalayan mountains. Man, let's go, let's go find
some chaos with Aaron Rodgers and look from a larger thing.
Is as much as I cringe at times with the

(05:29):
level of attention that it was paid to everything he
said and did over these last couple of years, and
certainly since arriving as a member of the Jets, like
I do, with all of the deification of everything going
on at Colorado. There you go, it's two hours seven
minutes if you had the over under, because I'm just
swinging past it to make the next Mine is that

(05:50):
those nauseate me, but they're also interesting and good for
our business, right because there's a lot else going on
right in this world and with the NFL Week one,
there are a lot of weird storylines, a lot of
games that you could say, hey, you got it wrong. No, no, no,
the teams didn't show up in play, so we're wondering
what went wrong from the get go, from the jump

(06:12):
of a lot of that. But this is huge, right,
He's a personality, love him or hate him, and people
that didn't like him for his comments and questioning of
handling of things during COVID protocols and science and debates
and whatever. That's fine. As a football player, I like
guys that are you know, have longevity, that they have legs,

(06:33):
and they have gravitas. And when you change teams and
especially going to what has been a perennial dumpster fire
and injecting some hope where you've got a few really
top level talents. When you talk about Williams and you
talk about Wilson and you talk about Garner, I mean,
you've got three of the top young players in this

(06:55):
game to anchor your squad. That there's a level of
excitement and if they can get back to prominence, it's
good for everybody, right, It's good to get the tongues wagon,
so him going down and injury wise, as much as
we may give you grief, and certainly people here are
although I gotta say our guy Ucla Dodger Frank with
the tweet of the world, the video you put up

(07:16):
in the postgame where you were cackling like a madman. Yeah,
he said Jason going with the salacious Crumb slash Rick
Flair matchup, because you cackled and then you added a
couple of dramatic whoos and so I mean it was
really kind of next level stuff. But this this is
a pain for the game. I mean, not only do

(07:37):
we go to the Zach Wilson thing and people are
gonna dismiss him. He'll be long. I think he could
be okay, right, I didn't think he'd get the job
back quite so fast, But here we are. But some
of the alternatives that you start looking at, going all right,
what have we got, Zach Wilson, Let's go because what's
available on the free you know, Frostbury brought up Carson Wentz,
Nick Foles, anybody.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Well, Adam Schefter's already put out that potentially the Jets
could be talking to carw We.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Threw that out. He's just trying to redeem himself after
that Van Peltic exchange.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
I'm not thrilled with Carson Wentz. I want Carson Wentz.
He has shown he can't play quarterback for numerous teams.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
What the hell do I want?

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Oh, he's elite.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
He wants to come right now.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Sala's going. Man, my phone is blowing up with quarterbacks.
It's just blowing up with quarterback. You know, Netflix, quarterback
should just be about the Jets. All the people that
want to go on the jeff As the Jets, just
make it them, make it about the Jets.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
They want people to watch. There Wentz. And then we
had Phil Rivers. No want to go there. No Nick Foles,
no Matt Ryan, no Joe No. If only you had
Mike White. No, Mike White not happening. He's on Miami.
They're not going to go do it.

Speaker 5 (08:43):
No.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
I mean I started looking at all the backups around
the NFL, and it's it's not good for anybody. No,
no the third quarterback. Yet it's not like folks are
going to say, hey.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
The only way the Jets make a move for for
a backup in the game is if it's somebody on
a team where a team's got three guys and they
have a pretty solid starter entrenched, they have a young
guy backing them up, and the and the the backup
is just kind of there just to to go. Just

(09:17):
but someone like that, it's like an Andy Dalton, right
or Taysom Hill maybe depending on Hey, Taysom Hill, Jameis Winston, Like,
that's kind of where you're looking at. It's going to
be a veteran who has made plays that is expendable
from a team because they haven't a trench starter. They
saw their team play. Okay, great, this is good. You
know the young guy we have backing up right now,

(09:38):
that's fine, But teams are really afraid to lose their
second quarterback nowts it's much harder to trade for a
backup quarterback because you are one playaway. Look, we talked
about Aaron Rodach Wilson, and Zach Wilson has got to
play the rest.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Of the season. Seventy started games last year.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Yeah, it's hard to trade for a guy. So likely
the Jets solution is somebody who's not in the NFL
right now, Tom.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Brady, who do you guys play? Next week?

Speaker 1 (10:04):
We play the Cowboys?

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Next week.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
You don't think Jerry Jones is going to sell you
Cooper Rush. We got a little bit of a Cooper
Rush for But if you want Nak we.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Could give you. Would you like Lance for a second
round pack?

Speaker 1 (10:14):
How about that?

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Now about that?

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Hey, I love Cooper Rush. I'll take Cooper Rush. What
Zach Wilson, Well, they need somebody else the Jets need,
so Tim Boyle is the other quarterback that they hadn't
Zach Wilson tried to make a tackle with his shoulder
after interception. I wasn't too thrilled to that. That's a
football player. But I've never said anything bad about Zach Wills.

(10:35):
I have never No, their solution is somewhere off the
field because unless there's a team like that. But again,
teams don't want to give up their guys like the
Cowboys friends, Right, Cooper Rush. This could be a Super
Bowl year for the Cowboys. Their expectations changed overnight after
last night, right with the way the defense played against
the Giants. Right, so now here you go, here's Dak Prescott.
If something happens, all right, you know Cooper Rush is

(10:58):
coming in one game. This is not a Super Bowl
or buzz to hear for the Cowboys? Are they really
going to trade Cooper Rush? Because if something happens to
Dak Prescott, Trey Lance is coming in, they're not doing it.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
No chance and they're not doing it.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
So the only outcome Tom Brady, the only outcoming is
from outside of the NFL. Tom Brady keep why not?
He hates Belichick, he hates the Patriots. They fined the speech,
they honored him yesterday. Now he can say, blank you,
I'm gonna go play for the Jets. What's what's what's
Tom Brady's oldest son's name, Jonathan Edward Thomas. What's their initials?

(11:32):
Jay E? T. Jets, Tom Brady Jets.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
Maybe when he was born it was aspirational to own
a jet.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Tom Brady Jets. Well, I'm sure he owns many now
he does. I'm sure. I mean he owned the Jets time,
he owned the Jets for two decades while he played
own actual jets.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Aspirational things. You know, you're speaking in new existence. I'm
gonna name my kid, so his initials are j. E. T. Look,
and I Am going to own a super Sonic jet
one day. Look, And they know who else is out there?
Real quick.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Who else you give two? First?

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Oh man, we bring Sam back? Why not go go
get Geno Smith. The Seahawks are bombed. Their season might
be Overmiths back. They they had the worst. That might
have been a worse loss than than the Giants, because
at least the Cowboys are good.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
No, that that is by far the worst coming when
Aaron Donald came up the middle.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
There's audio of him yelling, oh my god, when Aaron
Donald comes to sack him.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
That really might have been the best of the week.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
But look, but but I'll be honest with you, the
Jets season, whatever they're going to do, is on Zach Wilson. Now,
it's completely on him. There's nobody by the time somebody
came in and learned the playbook, is it someone you
want to turn the team over to, because someone not
in the NFL? Right now, You've you've invested a lot
in making Zach Wilson better. And was he a little
bit better tonight? Yeah, he was a little bit better tonight.

(12:56):
He was more confident. He was more confident throwing the
ball downfield. That screen pass to Breesehall. We had that
little cider maction where Breeze Hall downfield, but interception was bad,
hasn't had reps. It's going to be just like Hard Knocks,
where Rogers will be on the sideline giving him advice
the entire time going forward, throw it deep to Malik Taylor,

(13:16):
throws it deep and they gain a bit. So it's
going to be Zach Wilson or bust. I mean, it's
great to talk about the guys coming in, sure, but
I don't see a team moving a backup quarterback that's
any good because nobody does it anymore. And someone coming
from off the off the off the street. If that
happens and they have to go to that guy by
that time the season's over.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Runs, basically hang out and earn a little bit of money.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
It really doesn't matter. It's Zach Wilson or Busts.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Four Snaps. It's Zach Wilson or Bust for the Jets
for Snaps.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Live in a Different Worlds.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Four Snaps, four Snaps.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
The song goes to Aaron Rodgers Fox Sports Radio The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, Yes, Sir,
Mixed emotion site. Jets win thrilling, thrilling, winning overtime.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
It was a pretty good ending.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
We have a lot to break down because the Jets
win a game in which they lose Aaron Rodgers on
the fourth play of the game to an achilles injury,
Jets head coach Robert Salas saying after the game, it's serious.
It doesn't look good. We'll have something more official tomorrow.
So the Jets kind of know it looks like that's
it for Aaron Rodgers. Well, and Solo was so broken
he wouldn't even say his name. His Yeah, he just

(14:39):
said the quarterback. You just said the quarterback. But we'll
get to the quarterback in a second, because honestly, I
now know what something feels like that I never did before.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Okay, But to get to who point, I'm.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Let's play, let's play stop, Let's play the Xavier Gibson touchdown,
because it could comes off of the Xavier Gibson touchdown.
This is how the Jets won the game tonight, twenty
two to sixteen. They stopped the Bills the first possession
of overtime. After they stay in the game, play great defense,
they run the ball extremely well. Breecee Hall is phenomenal. Oh,

(15:12):
by the way, no questions whether Breese Hall is back?
Are there? No questions?

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Briete's a new gonny touchdown? No, No, I'm gonna tell
you this.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
He's gonna rush for three thousand yards and zero touch
Let me, I'll tell you this right now. I would
not doubt if Breese Hall is the leading rusher in
the NFL this year with a zero touchdown. Your time
doesn't matter, doesn't matter, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter
a leading what we're talking about yards, I wouldn't doubt
if Breece Hall is a leading rusher.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
In the running gets in the end zone. Man, he
is well.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
If if Garrett Wilson wanted to block for him on
the big long run instead of putting his fingers up
going yeah go Breese, maybe he would have gotten.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Maybe it should have encouraged him to run fast.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
But let's sear Xavier Gibson's a punt return for a touchdown,
because now I know what one phrase actually means. And
I would just say, for a long long time, let's
hear it and getting away a line drive kicking Sam Martin.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
Gibson runs under it that the Jet thirty five starts
to his left, get to the forty turns the callum
hot the forty ft tixty buck is it cut half
the forty half? The bill starting picks.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Outa twenty stunt a step to the time.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
To the pod cuts down. It's a jet touch down.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
This over.

Speaker 5 (16:21):
What away and Monday Night football.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
Gipson's gonna take this.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
We're back sixty through large britty touchdown one.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Of the levee to make the shot. I'm a lane cap.
Just cook it to the house to lay it. Overtime
for the Jets. Bob was shoosing Jets Radio network on
the call. I never know what she's doing about there.
Not to be fair, he at least got to do
the full call, as opposed to if that was a

(16:51):
Chicago Bears call in the background.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Like go go go yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah
go not see you it here? Uh don't if we'd
be playing for a Bears call. But you no, I
get what you're saying. They're never going to have a
moment like that now. I told you it's going to
be a long year man, Caleb Williams. Now, no, Now
the Jets are out of Caleb Williams. We're out of
the Calabillions. We're out of the Calabias sweepsticks. But I

(17:16):
do want to say this because now I know what
the phrase, what the phrase consciously blacking out is, Like, okay,
I know what that is. We hear people say, oh, man,
I think I blacked out for a few seconds. I
really think I did, because look, the guys will all
tell you and and bursch will tell you. To Ryan
Burschinger before the punt is oh, what's going on? Was

(17:37):
because I was coming back from the bathroom because we
were in commercial, and I said, how about Xavier Gibson
punt return for a touchdown? Which what a prediction?

Speaker 2 (17:43):
That is?

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Right?

Speaker 1 (17:44):
Like I may have to retire from predictions because it
was that good. He returns punt for a touchdown, he
gets into the end zone. I see no flaw. I
had a drink in my hand and my toes in
the sand all. I had a drink in my hand,
and I started running up the hallway screaming, banging on
the glass, and a few minutes later Rogers, Rogers banging

(18:05):
on the glass, and then after I calmed, after they after,
I mean, they win, I'm watching the celebration.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
I go, what happened to my drink? What did I say?
Where is it?

Speaker 1 (18:15):
Where? And I couldn't find my drink. I couldn't find
my drink. I didn't know what I said. I asked
you what I said?

Speaker 3 (18:20):
You said.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
I couldn't even I couldn't even remember. I don't know
what I yelled. I don't know what I said. I
couldn't find my drink. I'm just what happened to my beer?
Where's my zema? What happened to my zema?

Speaker 3 (18:33):
And I didn't know?

Speaker 5 (18:33):
What do I go?

Speaker 1 (18:34):
I think for twenty seconds, I kind of lost consciousness
or I hit some level of consciousness I never thought
I would be at Because I still don't know where
my drink is. I had to co get a new one,
and I stn't know what I said because none of
you guys can understand what I was.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
No, you were in complete gibberish screaming you're on of
breath because you're doing parroettes and cartwheels in the hallway. Yeah,
it was. It was a very weird couple of minutes.
I don't think your brain. I don't think the oxygen
was flowing quite properly. We were a little concerned for you,
to be honest.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
I mean, I mean, I can't tell you the last
time I was this excited after a Jets game. I
don't know I was this excited after the Jets win.
Oh that dude, that's twenty three years ago, a long time.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Well, you know, the waiting is the hardest part. They say, right,
he just.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Nailed it years twenty three years ago. I mean, that's
a long time, dude, that's a lot.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
We love these giant finishes to game, right, there's nothing
worse than what we had on Sunday Night football, or
if you sat down thinking, all right, we're gonna get
a slug fest, just trading blows when it comes to
the forty nine Ers and the Steelers and the game's
over after a quarter and go down the list of
yesterday's games, there were a lot of no show efforts

(19:50):
from teams, and this one, while it wasn't aesthetically pleasing,
you had big moments, obviously, the secondary of the Jets
feasting on a couple of but punt check kind of
moments from Josh Allen and then a great read on
a sideline route and then well what's now going to
replace the butt fumble? Yeah, or at least gonna jump

(20:12):
into it. I don't know if the call is gonna
be as good, but you have this the the option. Uh,
you know, as we're watching the scheme of all right,
it's close, right like NBA games. We talked about it
all the time, like doesn't have to be a great game,
just be close towards the end. Yeah. Here we actually
get it to overtime and we're screaming. You didn't hear
us because you were, you know, running around. But the

(20:34):
pass interference call that doesn't get called with arms around
the waist of digs like all right, play on. They're
letting them be physical, get after it. And then the
punt goes up, and all I hear is screaming, screaming,
and I'm like, these doors everything's really thickly. Wow, that's
I mean, because that's impressive. And you add a whole

(20:54):
crowd cheering with you too. I know Ian in the
back there as he's a Jets guy too, So I
mean the two of you, or well, he was the
one that said to me, what do you think. What
do you think, I said, Xavier Gibson punt return for
a touchdown. Well, no, no, but that's like a baseball game. Jets, Jets, Jets,
nobody Jets. But that's being at a baseball game. It's like, guys,
come on, he's going to hit a grand slam right here,

(21:15):
he strikes out. You don't own Yeah, I say it
all the time. He said he was going to hit
a grand slam. Say it all the time. I called it.
I called it.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
Give me credit, I called it.

Speaker 3 (21:23):
I'm hot, I'm hot. Yes, I did ask.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
Ask the guys ask, I asked, burst ask said they
were too busy to talk. No, yeah, ye, no, but
let me give you let me give you a a
silver lining here for the Jets in the wake of
y Robs injury. Well yeah, well there's two things. And
this is what makes me think things are coming full circle.
Right in in the Testaverdy game, I talked about where
in ninety ninety towards Achilles, the first game that was

(21:48):
a Super Bowl season for the Jets that went off
the rails. The Jets lost that game to the to
the Patriots. They wound up missing the playoffs by a
game right here, same thing happens. The Jets pull out
the victory. Okay, in two thousands twelve, you had the
butt fumble, right, The Jets have not been sniffing the
playoffs since then. What did you see tonight? Josh Allen
get a snap run into his own offensive lineman fumble,

(22:10):
The Jets recovered, kick the field goal, the game, the lead,
They go to overtime, they win. The curse of the
butt fumble is over.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
It's over, man, it's over.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
And here they are ready to go play the rest
of the season.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
That that ten year.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
Curse of the butt fumble, now it's been lifted, Mike
carbon lifted.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
I don't know. Just because Sanchez tweeted it out doesn't
make it so.

Speaker 5 (22:31):
Yes, no, no, no, always live on this show, just
words live.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
But it's like this in Harry Potter, everybody that they
couldn't you know Voldemort. No one wanted to say his name, right,
I couldn't say Baltimore. No, I don't say, don't say,
he must not be named Boldemort, Voldemore. Then you realize
it's just a name. And then Harry Potter vanquishes Voldemort.
Sorry spoiler alert, And you can say voldemort. You can
give it more power by not saying you'll be afraid
butt fumble's there. But now we've the power of what

(23:05):
it had, and the curse over the Jets has now
been lifted. It's gone that Bills had their own version
of the butt fumble. Now they're gonna suck for ten
years and they dictated It's like it follows you got
to make you gotta tag somebody else with it and
give it to somebody else as they.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Go on, there you go.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
That's how it works.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
I like your theory. I reject it, but I like
the high power it's over. Well, here's the thing. We
now have another sixteen games to figure out whether that happens.
Is there a hangover off this now I've wondered, And
that's the Bills for a moment. It is just the
idea going back to last year, right, windows and windows

(23:43):
closing and the playoff game or whatever. How much does
it change way with the Demorrow Hamblin situation, like he
wasn't available to them tonight, but the end of last
year to be like all right, we rally, we get
back out a football that's hard. And I think that
got categorically dismissed by a lot of you know whispers
and would be you know stories and creating drama of

(24:05):
all these guys aren't getting along all right, Maybe the OC,
maybe Allen, indeed, maybe there's a little disconnect. I never
thought they were in this terrible space that everyone was,
But the Hamlet situation to end last year that I
don't know that you're in the right mind to play
football now. Reasons excuses, whatever, the game's over, they lost,

(24:27):
you move on, you come back for this year. From
a personnel standpoint, not having von Miller is a pretty
big deal defensively to get things started. But Josh Allen
and the turnover machine that he was today launching the
ball john Field haphazardly, my guy's gonna make it. Last year,
he did the same thing over a time, right as
soon as Dable left. It changes up the way you're

(24:49):
working the offense. And we know on at least the
first touchdown, we haven't seen the all twenty two of
the second of the interceptions, the first one very clearly
had the opportunity to run to his left pick up
first down. Yep instead chucked it downfield, which kind of
served as a punt, but then that goes and gets

(25:10):
negated by Breese Hall sprinting a web back for eighty
three yards, right, So you know there's certainly wrinkles to
go through it. Does it mean that it follows is
now attached itself for the next sixteen weeks. It's great
for theories because if this works, I mean, come on,
we've now gotten some of the dregs of pop culture

(25:32):
in to explain football phenomen.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
I'm a believer, and I'm a believer in faith, and
I'm also a believer in this, and we've talked about this.
We talked about a little bit this with the Dodgers.
The Dodgers going into the playoffs this year, I don't
think it's the worst thing in the world for them
to not be the overwhelming favorite, because they've been the
overwhelming favorite for a decade. They won one World Series.
Sometimes the pressure Okay, yes, they've won two. Put an asteriskoy, yeah,

(25:58):
put an as We'll get to that asterist thing coming up.
So it's not the worst thing for the Dodgers to
come in maybe play a little bit freer with no pressure.
Here's you're looking for a silver lining for the Jets. Okay,
this is still an incredibly talented roster. The defense is great.
The offense you have two great running backs that you
can have, Dalvin Cook and Breshall. A Breshall looks like

(26:18):
he's the same guy he was last year. Dalvin Cook
played really well even though he's just still picking up
the offense. You can still be really effective and win
and have a great season because you have a great team.
You have a great roster. Now Rogers is getting you
over the top guy, and it's hard to say, Okay,
we don't have eight anymore. But the Jets also had

(26:40):
to deal with expectations, and that's all you heard from
them the end of Hard Knocks going to the season.
Yes we're not running from the expectations, not running from it,
but this is new. Expectations are new. Expectations are difficult
to deal with when suddenly you go from a team
that's seven and ten two. Everybody expects you to get
far and get to the super Bowl, and if you don't,
it's a failure. A lot to play with that kind

(27:01):
of pressure. Silver lining for the Jets now is that
expectation is gone, so maybe they can just go out
and play. I don't know if that's gonna make Zach
Wilson a better quarterback. I don't know how much better
he is last year than this year than last year.
Certainly he looked a little bit more confident this year.
He got the Jets down and got them some points
when he needed to get them. He wouldn't have done
that a year ago. So I like he's in a

(27:21):
little bit better spot than he was last year. But
is he good enough to really be someone to come
in and throw two three touchdowns a week?

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Probably not.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
But the expectations that are gone now the Jets can
go out there and play and talk big and do
whatever they want to and know, hey, look we don't
have to worry about a loss being the end of
the world and can we still make the super Bowl
after this? Now you can deal with things a little
bit easier when expectations are lifted off of you. You're
looking for a silver lining for the Jets.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
That's it. I still look at the roster and I
think that you had a pretty good roster coming in
and eight was just the additive to it. Right, Zach
Wilson just doesn't have to throw up on himself. Not
that you're gonna have games like this where you're gonna
have four turnovers, a couple of which are just self inflicted. Right,
you make the plays, but you know Alan just launched

(28:05):
the ball down the middle of the field. You won
the fifty to fifty ball, great read on the third one.
So that's not going to fall into your lap each week.
But you know you can get after it at the
point of attack. You know you can work against the run.
And obviously Gardner and Whitehead and those guys in the
defensive backfield are gonna make plays for you offensively. If

(28:27):
Hall and Cook stay healthy, you're gonna be able to
run the ball. You can grind out somebody's getting That
game was fast. That was a fast game, right, You
keep the clock moving, keep things rolling, and you break
a few big plays. Yeah, you're not banking on eighty three,
but he still averaged five yards of carrying his other
nine attempts. So between him and Cook, as long as
Zach Wilson's not turning the ball over and being giving

(28:52):
gifts left and right as we saw so many other
quarterbacks did, there's no reason they can't still be competitive. Now,
whether they can getting the shootouts with other teams, now
that's not gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
If by shootout you mean ten, ten, thirteen, thirteen shootout,
We're in it. We're in that shootout thirteenth third. Tell
me you don't Team thirteen. Tell me you don't want
to watch.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
This defense battle against Dallas next week?

Speaker 1 (29:14):
Yeah, we have because I'm not looking forward to seeing
the offense and Zach Wilson throw against the Dallas defense.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
He's gonna be going, oh my god. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Wait, Patrick Mahomes, we're getting the Jets are getting Patrick Mahomes. No,
we're getting Mahomes. Hate that Mayor Mahomes. Yeah, dude, he
got himself in trouble on an X. Just don't punch me.
Just don't punch me. Just don't punch me. Just don't
punch me.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
Well, Zach Wilson's better than Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
That's a hot take. I like that cut. He's want
to know that's Pask Mahomes, cancer guy is true?

Speaker 1 (29:53):
Uh, speaking of quarterbacks, this is not about Patrick Mahomes
because the Jets won. The Jets win, likely losing Aaron
Rodgers for at least the season. Robert Solid, Jets head coach,
saying earlier tonight the injury suffered by Rogers on the
fourth play of the game, it's an Achilles injury and
it's not good. You guys kind of know where it's headed.

(30:14):
We'll have an announcement tomorrow. But will he have more
on Rodgers and more on this game? A thrilling game.
The Jets win. They still find a way to win,
which makes me think things are still possible. But let's
hear from the quarterbacks who played tonight, and they played
the majority of the game. Obviously, we saw Rogers get
knocked out early. His position will now be taken over
by Zach Wilson. Does he get his locker? He gets everything?

(30:35):
And look, you're gonna see Rogers on the sideline wearing
the headphones talking to Zach Wilson the entire year. It's
gonna be. It's gonna be just like hard Knocks. Here's
Zach Wilson on the QB one mentality that he's got
to have.

Speaker 6 (30:47):
I just got to keep getting better, you know, trust
my feet, trust my coaches, Trust the guys around me,
rely on this defense that we have, and progressively just
rely on everything I feel like I've done throughout training
camp in preseason as well, and just do my best
to keep improving as a player.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
You know, you talk about the unpredictability of sports. All
the last six months have been Zach Wilson's never gonna
play for the Jets again. He's done. They kick him
to the curb. We have Aaron Rodgers. It's you know what,
they don't need him. He is a spare part. He's
never gonna get to start again, his futures as a
backup somewhere else. And in four snaps everything changed. But

(31:23):
his hope was that he was gonna hand the baton
right back to him. Yeah, and Roberts Heal's going, yeah,
that's fine, that's fine. But just think about that. His
career as a starter was over and now he's got
a chance to win the job again. Now he's got
a chance to continue on his career as a starter
in the NFL. So just when you think it looks
like that needle is pointing all the way, it's never
gonna happen. In four snaps, that happened again for him.

Speaker 3 (31:42):
No, this is great opportunity knocks, see if he can
make the best of it. A little more confidence. He's
got a lot of guy training right at the feet
of Aaron Rodgers. We talked in chronicle Death be out
and hard knocks and the play calling exploits whatever. Seems
that Rogers was a bit more amenable, or at least

(32:03):
that's what we're led to believe in terms of helping
him out and bringing him along as opposed to perhaps
past incarnations and quarterbacks that were brought in to be
the backup and maybe at times the air apparent. I
don't know for Zach Wills, and I'm kind of curious
to see what it is. He's still threw what good great,
but he's sitting three years younger than a lot of

(32:23):
these guys are still run around their seventh year in
college football.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
Yeah, and he did, like I said, he did look better.
He looked like he had a better command of the offense.
Was a little bit more confident than he was last year.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
So that's good, Jason.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
Quote from Garrett Wilson, Zach brought us together and that
was everything that we needed.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
Wow, there you go.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
Translation, Zach threw me the ball in the goal line.
When I said, you throw me the ball in the
goal line, that's good, he didn't throw it.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
Well, yeah, right, that's another one. That's It's like when
we have a little duck snort base hit or a
dribbler up the line that they don't feel hoping his
goes fall and then you leg it out. It looks
like a line drive to left field in the boxes.
Look likewise here, Garrett Wilson, that is one of the
finest unbeliever because that was great. That was great coverage.
They were like the past party got in to the

(33:13):
second touchdown yesterday. Well, what's the same thing where it's
a tough spot. Yeah, that was a tough throw, good coverage.
Not the greatest throw, but Wilson taps it to himself,
gives himself a chance. You know what that is.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
That's kind of like an Eli Manning throw. The throw
he made for the touchdown. Because what Eli did during
his career better than than anybody gives them credit for,
is he knew, Okay, I'm gonna throw this ball where
my receiver can make a play and likely he's gonna
catch it or it's gonna hit the ground. Yeah, and
and and Eli made a fortunate that. Like he was
great at that, he was great at finding the one

(33:45):
on one coverage. That's where im gonna go with the ball. Like,
was this the best throw by Zach Wilson. No, but
he still did good things and getting the ball out
fast before the dB could turn around. Garrett Wilson's able
to see the ball all the way through. And look,
you're you're banking on a superstar wide receiver to make
a play. Well, it's not catching the ball, no, right,
it's trying to bounce off.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
Wilson.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
Kid doesn't get a hand on it. I mean the
way it hits his hand and he deadens it to
just tip it to himself. Doc. That kid is a
super duperstar. Man, I'm telling you, Garrett Wilson is a
super duper star.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
It immediately goes, Hey, my target count's going to be
ten to twelve every week.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Just so you know, Zach, I'll say good things about you.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
You keep throwing me.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
Hey, football man, He's never said this many good things
about Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
A man.

Speaker 1 (34:30):
He's gonna throw the lizard, he's gonna throw the hard
man he's gonna throw.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
I'm still hanging Oh no, no, no, I'm getting the ball.

Speaker 4 (34:36):
Man.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
It's all about me again.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
I'm getting the ball. This is fantastic. Lily Beeman, look, hey,
look Zach. Just to think about how quickly his career
has turned in an instant for Zach Wilson. Coming up next,
you'll hear from Josh Allen because we got to hear
from the turnover reshime plus something. I just want to
get into this a little bit. With the Jets winning
nine to eleven, something about tonight that just I just

(35:02):
want to get into it for a little bit and
talk about it. I trust and hope you stay and listen.
