Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ladies and gentlemen, you want experience during your football season, well,
buckle up, sweet cheeks. We've got all the experience in
the world. This is I want your flex with Dan
Bayer and Mike Harmon. Mike and Dan break down everything
you need to set your lineups, from position rankings.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
To starts and sits.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
The guys help you make those hard decisions. And now
let's get your flex.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Ond.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Here's Dan Bayer and Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
All right.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Week one is in the books, and boy, that last
chapter of that book fellas pretty pretty amazing.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
He is, Mike Harmon.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Get him at Swollen Dome, Ryan Bersing our executive producers
here as well. Get him at Ryan Bersinger. He can
hit me up at Dan Byer on Fox and fellas.
I mean this is first. Let me just say this
Week one was dog crape really really well.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Put it down to text, Dan, I would agree with
you one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Like it was when you sit back and you kind of,
you know, purview what we had in week one, like
it really wasn't good, but we were so craving football
and we were so so excited about it that I
think we overlooked it. And there was no fan base
that was more excited about the upcoming season than the
New York Jets. And four minutes into game one of
(01:25):
their seventeen game eighteen week campaign, their prize quarterback goes down,
and of course that's where we start the injury to
Aaron Rodgers. Done for the season with that achilles injury,
and at the time of the recording, we haven't gotten
official word, but it your sounds that way, guys, But
I just can't think of a better way to put
(01:48):
an exclamation point on a dog crap week because of
the fact of I don't even like Aaron Rodgers, and
I feel awful for the guy. I'm not a Jets fan,
and I feel bad for Jets fans. Just an amazingly
awful way toad Week one of the twenty twenty three s.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
It's the worst, right, it's the build up to I
don't know, think of any blockbuster movie or TV show
that you're anticipating. Hell, think of Christmases that you thought
you were gonna get the thing that was the thing
you circled, you rip the page out of the old
catalog or nowadays, this is the link that you sent
to mom, Dad, grammat that's what I want. And then
(02:25):
you get something else, something that's nowhere near the level.
It's like, I want this cool Darth Vader toy. You
know what you're getting the fourth guy from the band
that was playing in the CANTEENA who's that guy? Doesn't matter,
that's what you get. Now when we look at the
Jets and the anticipation for this season, you know, me
working with Smith that night on Fox Sports Radio, I've
(02:47):
had nothing but Jets talk for six months. The build
up was so huge, all the tourists, things that Rogers did,
and then trying to do the image rehabilitation, and so
it was all building up to a big Monday Night
against Buffalo, excitement, AFC East Battle, and then just like that,
I'm in the car driving to the studio and I
got Harlan and Court Warner and there's a moment of
(03:10):
silence as they try to figure out how to best
call what they just saw of Rogers laying on the turf,
and I was like, wow, just like that, just like that,
it's done. And sure enough, just like that, it's done.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
It's It's truly, like so incredibly disappointing, because yeah, this
is probably the biggest storyline of the season, and just
like that, it's it's dead. When I watched the injury happen,
I just thought, like he twisted his ankle, like as
he went down. I realized that, like when he stood
up and then fell back down. I thought, well, I
(03:48):
don't know, maybe he's just being dramatic, Like this isn't real, right,
Like there's no way he just suffered a potentially season
ending injury. And even he's on the cart and I'm like, nah,
this is He's gonna play for them like he has to,
Like that's that's how the season's supposed to be, right, No, no,
this is uh, it's all been taken away from us.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
But Jets fans are robbed of a hero, right and
what could be? And I think got a pretty good
squad overall, you know, winning in dramatic fashion whatever. But
for anybody that wanted to do hate watching because you
were tired of Aaron Rodgers and whether you liked him
disliked him for who he is, you know, medicine, politics, UFOs, whatever,
(04:30):
or the player that tormented your team. Me being a
Chicago kid, I mean burst being a Packer fan. He's gone.
So I'm sure it was hate watching if you can't
go succeed there, and for me, it was get out
of my division. Oh wait, the next guy's there to
torment me.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
The simple fact of this team was also loaded on
primetime TV, and that is now what we will have
to endure. I mean, the flex scheduling that you know
the NFL can do now can't come soon enough. You know,
for some of these games, it was supposed to be
it's Jet's Cowboys in Week two?
Speaker 3 (05:09):
How great is that?
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Like, we can't even we can't even get to that point,
and I mean it's it was just it takes it
out of the entire NFL. Like I don't know what
it's like to be a Patriots fan. I don't know
what it's like to be a Dolphins fan. And the
Bills fans just lost to this team tonight, so I
know that they're not they're not feeling well time of
(05:32):
the recording.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
It's tonight.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
But the the point is is I think the whole NFL,
like you know, is good to miss out. And to
your point, Mike of you had ulterior motives to watch
bursh Ed and you know, ulterior motives to watch and
now it's just not going to be there, and that's
one less storyline. And now, I honestly like for how
(05:54):
jam packed the AFC seemed to be one less team
to kind of compete. They may compete, they they may
be in the thick of it, but they're not in
the thick of it of they can win the super Bowl.
And with the Rogers, you had that even if they
went ten and seven, nine to eight and got into
the playoffs, they still were that intriguing story that you
(06:15):
were going to follow it even if they go nine
and eight. I don't even know if that's possible, But
even if they go nine and eight, that storyline is gone.
They're just one of the teams that are there and
not one of the contenders.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
And that's too bad.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Oh I know, is both all the television networks are
gonna be flexing out the Jets and Bears. It's fascinated.
We like the markets, we don't like the teams. But yeah,
they hate watching thing, very very real for a lot
of folks, right, we'll longer in the two kind of
like folks were watching New England towards the end. Was
it real hate? No, It's like you're just tired of
(06:47):
the same people, the same teams, whatever, and with the
Jets like Ah Rogers, he's still around. And then you
had nothing this offseason but Aaron Rodgers talk and then
hard knocks come and it was it was the Aaron
Rodgers infomercial for five weeks about how great he is
with his teammates, what a wonderful guy he is, look
(07:08):
at his attitude, look at how he's reborn, all of
these things, and then it's taken away. I joke with
Smith all the time, and I sing it, you know,
loudly with my daughters. There's a great Taylor Swift song.
This is why we can't have nice things. I had
to break your toys and take them a whole away.
Oh there you go. Week one.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
And you know the worst part about this Packers get
a second round pick now.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Oh that's true.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
Yeah, he did not reach the sixty five percent. I'll
tell you another part of this. That and Mike, I apologize.
I didn't hear you and Jason on Monday night.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Good good. You didn't want to know. I was as
mean and angry about it as I can be. Well
at the same time, going well, I don't have to
worry about talking about Rogers anymore.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
This and and that's actually where I was going.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
And I and when you say any more, this legitimately
could end his career. Sure, And I think that is
something that will be a conversation.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
It'll probably be a conversation.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Within the you know, twenty four to forty eight hour
news cycle at some point. But realistically, you're talking about
a guy who's on the doorstep of forty to come
back from that significant injury. Now, we're not talking about
guys who are playing into their forties like to suffer
a significant injury like this. Plus for a guy who
(08:34):
even late in his age, still was mobile and could move.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
And now you like it.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
Was really one of Roger's strengths was his ability to move.
Maybe not scramble and get your forty yard runs like
other quarterbacks can do, but he could really move. And
that's the other point of this that I just think
that it's a real conversation. Now, you know Rogers brought
up recently, you know he kind of thought about playing
till least forty five. I think this puts a complete
(09:03):
wrench at it. I don't think that there's I don't
think there's any guarantee that Aaron Rodgers comes back, and
I and even if he does, I just I'm wondering,
and I think we're just gonna get a limited version
of Aaron Rodgers, and that still maybe better than a
bunch of quarterbacks in the National Football League. But for
what the Jets want, the Jets, you know, need over
(09:26):
these next couple of years, is that gonna be the
best option.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
I'm not too sure about that.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
And especially with somebody like Rogers, who is such a
cerebral guy, where the reason why he kept coming back
was because he felt like he still could find some
joy in playing. It really comes down to whether or
not he wants to and whether or not his his
spirit or whatever he refers to it as desires to play.
(09:51):
And if he has this level of a setback, I
wouldn't be surprised if honestly he's just like, you know what,
if it's this is this is destiny, then like this
is my And I say that one hundred percent seriously,
like he might like think of it as like, you
know what, this is the universe telling me this is
not my time anymore.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
That's an interesting piece because I also would love the
documentary now that I had to endure hard knocks and
everyday social media and hey, you're at Taylor Swift and
everything else because it became news for our show, of course.
But the idea that, you know, whatever treatment he goes
and finds. I know, Dan, your son's young enough. You
(10:30):
haven't drifted into the Marvel universe, fal On, but Birsch
will get this reference. There's a scene in Doctor Strange.
He's had this car accident in his hands are messed
up and he can't operate, and he's losing his sense
of self and he ends up going to a basketball
court and there's Benjamin Bratt, the Great Benjamin Bratt, and
you couldn't even get past your secretary, and but who
(10:53):
had been healed by you know, the holy people up
on the mountain. He chosen one, the ancient one, and
all of this stuff, and it sets Doctor Strange and
his whole world into it. I mean, Aaron Rodgers may
go try to find that guy. He may go looking
for Benjamin Bratt on a New York basketball court to
go figure out how to get this fixed and fixed quickly.
(11:14):
I don't know. We talk about those things. So I
think that's the interesting part. Give me a documentary of that,
but I think Bursch hits it though he's just a
different guy. This could just be the blackjag dealer I'm done.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
Yeah, I have no idea. Maybe it serves as something
that he wants to prove. I don't know, because honestly,
we've gotten a different Aaron Rodgers over these last couple
of years and who he really is and we have
no idea. But just in the long term of it,
I mean, the guy turns forty in December, and now
(11:47):
you're going to rehabit achilles injury, try to come all
the way back and then be there next year when
we don't know when is that time.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Who's going to fall off the cliff? You know.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
I know that they loved what they saw, you know,
in the preseason and as we saw in Hard Knocks.
But I just think there's that legitimate question, and it's
gonna be a question that we're probably not gonna have
for the next you know, nine to twelve months, because
I just I don't know. I have no idea, but
I think that I would not be shocked if the
(12:20):
Aaron Rodgers that we know.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Is no longer because of this injury.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yeah, one of the things Jason and I as we
got into it a little bit, was all right, what's
out there now? Right? If you're looking for a stop
gap and you look at it, it's really a bunch of
guys that played for the Colts the last couple of
years that were the stop gap guys one after another
there or you know, everybody's starting to photo shop Tom
Brady into a Jets uniform, which is all fine and good.
(12:49):
But Zach Wilson, it's your opportunity, you know, to go
and try to run with it. Pretty decent squad bresee
Hall ten Carries had the eighty three yard burst, Dalvin
Cook ran well, and this defense is for real. So
play game manager. You could probably win some games. Do
I trust that Zach Wilson's arm is gonna throw me
(13:09):
to a bunch of victories? No? But I is it
sending you down to the abyss to where you're in position,
to where you can package a couple of things and
go get one of these top quarterbacks next year. Because
the the easy answer is, well, Rogers did his deal
because he's got a bunch of money for next year
that he's gonna come back again. Eric Rodgers is a
(13:30):
different dude. Right, money is one thing, and look, it's
really tough to walk away from that, but not getting
into a man's wallet and just trying to talk about
what we think we kind of get in terms of
him as an individual, that maybe it is that all right,
it's time to go fighting back and it's not working.
(13:51):
And if the Jets you can't wait because all these
other guys, I mean they're yes, second year, third year guys,
but all of a sudden you got to start thinking about,
all right, what's are our budgetary constrained here and there?
And I know that the cap is fuzzy math at best,
but it's still really nice when you can go get
a quarterback to go build on for the future, you know,
(14:12):
on that rookie.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
Deal I thought that I had And it probably doesn't
work salary cap wise, but maybe next season, maybe they
find a way to work. But like, where's Kyler Murray
gonna end up?
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Well, yeah, that's that's that's the wrinkle to it again,
going to the dollars and cents, right, because the Bidwell
Bidwell isn't going to eat any of that, right, He's
going to try to force everything, every dime of that
onto whoever. But but that he is a guy we've
talked about getting traded. Why not the Jets.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
I think there'll be a lot of guys honestly for
the maybe this is an overreaction to Week one.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
I think that there's.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Gonna be a lot of spots, you know, And I mean,
you know, Minnesota is going to have a decision. Sure,
you know, I'm you know, I mean I'm watching the
the Seahawks git three total yards in the second half,
which again I don't even know if that stats accurate. Yeah,
it's good to run with you like like that's it's
(15:10):
I mean, and so you know you're saying to yourself,
all right, what you know, there are going to be
a lot more situations that are that are open and yeah,
I just it's it's it's awful.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Feel bad for Garrett Wilson, you know.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Yeah, I mean he went and made himself a play
though you want you want to talk about a guy
going and earning himself a touchdown, man, that that was
pretty good coverage. Tap to yourself, man, And that's one
of the themes coming out of what was, as you
put a Dan the dog Crap Week one. The individual
efforts of some of these guys to maybe save your
(15:45):
fantasy team a little bit and to make sure they
got their stats with bad quarterback play or in a
lot of cases, no show efforts by teams you were
on air. I mean Birsch was producing early. I had
already done the show, but I was here spotting as
you saw me in the in the hallways here at
Fox Sports Radio. Then you had to do a show,
and I don't know how much you tried to put
(16:07):
some frosting on there to make it, you know, palatable.
But I mean, how many no show efforts in a week?
One man? Have you ever seen anything like it? And
then we get this four minutes in. Everybody stuns, silence going,
all right, Rogers is done. There's Zach Wilson.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
I'll just I'll just say this because I do want
to say one other thing about Garrett Wilson. I think
Garrett Wilson will have more opportunities to make plays like that.
The reason because the ball will not be where it
needs to be. Not sure that play he was playing
defense like he literally was denying a pass out on
the wing if it was a basketball game, and that's
(16:44):
why it was deflected and he was able to catch
it like it was an amazing catch, but no one's
like he was defensive back first and then turned back
in the wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
So I'm denying this guy at the ball. But you
know what it's like. I used the analogy on air,
Dan was, you know, you have a little dribbler up
the third base line and the guy waits to see
if it's gonna roll fall. In the box score the
next day, that's a line shot to left. Same thing here.
That was a perfectly thrown from Wilson to Wilson.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
I think Garrett Willson was just so excited that they
chose to pass, and that when they did pass, Zach
Wilson threw it to him. That's why I think then
when he was so excited, But don't get it twisted,
he was playing defense. He was trying to break it
up from Jerdevius White making that catch. All right, that
there's enough Jets. It's a huge story, so we had
(17:40):
we had to start with it. And now we're going
to focus on your fantasy team when we come back.
Mike Harmon, Ryan bursching On myself, give you some names
to target, Yeah, week two, entering week two of your
waiver wire period maybe the most important time period outside
of your draft to better your team. So we're gonna
give you some names. That's I want your flex podcast.
(18:02):
This is also an opportunity where Harmon can do is flexing,
give you some names to target as we head into
the waiver wire. Hit him up at Swollen Dome, find
me at Dan Byer on Fox, and of course Ryan Bershing,
our executive producer at Ryan Berschinger. The reason I said
that week one is so important and waiver wires heading
(18:23):
into week two is I just remember that there are
names guys who burst onto the scene that maybe one
hit wonders, but there are guys who show out in
week one and then just continue that way.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
And I think a Kwan.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Bolden is maybe Mike the the most the biggest story
to pop up when he dominated the Detroit Lions and
his season debut for Arizona when he burst onto the
scene and.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Just never stopped going after that.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
So if you can find a player like that in
that week one and then last year throw out the season,
It's why I think it's the most important time. Like
we now actually have real data, real snap counts, you know,
real targets to judge on And that's why I think
this week is so important when it comes down to
(19:10):
waiver wire, the players that you want to pick up.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Well, it's also the fun. I mean, we get a
bit of overreaction, but let's face it, a lot of
injuries right off the jump to create space. And as
much as you're fortifying your team, you're also playing defense.
Right you may have enough running backs to field. But
then you say, well, this guy's now at a deficit
(19:32):
based on I don't know JK. Dobbins, Well, I can't
talk about him anymore. He's a guy whove hyped every year, Dana,
what's he done? He's gotten hurt, So I'm gonna say
it's all my fault. Either that or they didn't do
a true exorcism of that trainer's room in Baltimore, because
they've got multiple guys that are hurt. Not to mention
Mark Andrews, who wasn't there for you in week one
(19:54):
and at the always confusing tight end position. But yeah,
week one we have us some new heroes, and based
on at least some of the early targets and touchcounts,
looks like guys that we may be able to push
a little bit forward, you know, and look, it will
ride the roller coasters as we need to, and that's
the beauty of it. We're like day traders because we
(20:16):
get to do this every week.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Yeah, it's it is.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
I just I think it's so important versus I'm not
sure how you look at the week as well, but
I just think that there are guys. If you can
land the player that sticks, it makes up for a
bad third, fourth, fifth round pick and keeps you in
the ball game. And then if you don't land that player,
I feel like you're playing catch up each week and
(20:42):
trying to find that person or to fill that spot.
I just feel it's really, really, really important essential to
your team to have success in this week in waiver.
Speaker 5 (20:52):
Wire, I've had a league mate even suggest slightly seriously, like,
is there an advantage to tanking Week one and getting
top waiver priority, because sometimes, yeah, you will have I
even think of like Elijah Mitchell just a couple of
years ago when he had his gigantic Week one performance
and everyone freaked out and he ended up being a
(21:14):
very strong option for the rest of the season. There's
definitely it is the silver lining to losing Week one
and I've got a team that you know, when we
talk about how bad this Week one was, I broke
the record in my league for a least amount of
points scored in week one of a season.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Yeah, I would love to guess your team go for
it like Okay, So Mike you can if you want
to take to it with this.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
So I think Burrow's got to be the court. Burrow
Rogers have to be the quarterback.
Speaker 5 (21:46):
So no, actually, so I will say this, nobody on
my nobody got hurt. These were all these No, actually no,
everybody everybody ordered eight points.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
No, it was a good idea, but you know, we
we've gone. Did we go for two Swift?
Speaker 3 (22:06):
What about dere Swift?
Speaker 5 (22:07):
No, DeAndre Swift?
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Okay, just tell us your team, Okay, so.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
It's could you just tell me?
Speaker 5 (22:14):
I mean, it is a good This is a testament
to just how wacky Week one it was. Right, So,
I had Josh Allen at quarterback. My running backs were
Antonio Gibson and Jack McKinnon, and I had Khalil Herbert
in the flex, Garrett Wilson Deebo Samuel at receiver. I
had to find a tight end because of Mark Andrews
(22:35):
being hurt, so I threw in Gerald Everett and which
was a logical start that got me nothing. And the
Vikings defense against the Bucks. So for grant total of
forty nine point eighty four points.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Ouch. Yeah, that's stumped this week, that is for sure.
Speaker 5 (22:50):
Yeah, And it could have been worse. I could have
had guys like t Higgins or Drake London or or
a quarterback you know, Aaron Rodgers and or Joe Burrow.
Like that's just how bad this week one was or
great for some people. One of my other teams was
much better. This one was very bad.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Okay, So before Mike give us the waiver wire targets,
is there one player that you are like, this is
who I am going after in Week two?
Speaker 5 (23:17):
I wish there was one clear option. And this is
kind of where I'm at trying to figure things out
because I'm looking at three different running backs. I'm looking
at Kyron Williams, looking at Justice Hill, I'm looking at
Josh Kelly, and I kind of all three of these
guys I think are in different situations where if we're
(23:38):
looking at potential for the greatest amount of workload for
the season, I think that's Kyrien Williams. When we're looking
at the player in the best offense, I think that's
Justice Hill. When we're looking at the best like immediate
point total given Austin Ecklers a injury, I think that's
Josh Kelly. So that's what I'm trying to figure out
(23:58):
in terms of what I think would be the best
option there. Part of me lean's Kyen Williams because I
am believing the fact that he might actually end up
being the bellcal for that offense given the way they
were used. Yes, cam Akers did end up out carrying
Kien Williams in terms of workload, but also cam Akers
(24:20):
was kind of the one getting the work once the
game was out of hand, and Acres also was not
effective at all on the ground. Williams looked like the
better running back, and I am kind of thinking that
the Rams might see him as the better running back
moving forward.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Now it's just a question of what does that yield you.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
Yeah, that's the other thing.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
I mean. The only thing we can manage to though,
is opportunity, Right, we talk about that all the time.
Give me ten targets, give me eighteen touches. I can't
do anything more for you than that right now. Now
thing's got to go perform and with the Rams. Tell
me there was a bigger surprise in week one, right
And I don't mean that. I don't do that to
(25:02):
hit you with a big stick, Dan.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Oh, Dorry, don't worry.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
Everybody was bringing it all day on Monday at Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Yeah, but the great part about here's the great part
about it.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
My Monday. Sorry, I'm going to take in a quick detour.
Everybody was like, Hey, John, how about your rams? Talking
about John Ramos, John's John Ramos's rams with a big
win this weekend, And both Doug and Covine and Rich
just completely like forgot about me that I had to
listen to them brag about you know, John's rams, you know,
(25:33):
over and over and you know, yeah, great rams win, Johnny,
how about them rams?
Speaker 3 (25:38):
You know?
Speaker 4 (25:38):
And I am sulking in my studio, you know. So
that that was my Monday. But I don't worry it's anything.
By the way, any criticism of the Seahawks get warranted
for what happened.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
On Sunday, but just the idea of I mean, is
that a one week effort or is that something sustainable?
Are they going to be better the rams than the
anticipated coming in. But again, if you can get fifteen
touches guaranteed each week, I'll take it. Right. We're now
looking at what for most guys a minimum falling forward.
(26:11):
You're at sixty yards plus whatever receiving or goal line
touches from the straight offensive. Long term, yeah, Justice Hill
is going to be part of it. Does he lose
to Gus Edwards? Well, Gus Edwards can't stay healthy. And
how much is that run game going to be attacked
by the fact that Stanley's hurt again? You want to
talk about a guy that just can't find any kind
(26:34):
of luck, I mean between he and Dobbins again, Sage
brushes from Kyrie Irving and a full on exorcism Exorcist
the New Ones out October sixth, But I can't wait
that long. I got to get these guys right before then. Dan,
you know, from pure explosiveness, you know Kelly's potential is there,
and you know little birds telling me you know, this
(26:55):
could be a long, long thing going on, you know,
the old sources kind of thing, fellas. But you know,
with Eckler and obviously in that offense, you've got some explosiveness,
but I don't think it's anything that's long term, at
least as of now, which means I'd probably lean towards Hill,
But that's just more based on identity of what we
(27:18):
know that team has been.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Here's one thing that you cannot count on happening again.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
You ready for this hit?
Speaker 4 (27:26):
It Kyen Williams getting two yards receiving with zero receptions.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
So because it did happen, it did happen.
Speaker 4 (27:36):
Imagine being in a PPR league and you're like, wait,
what you know? Took a lateral from Van Jefferson, That's
what it was, gained two yards. He actually gained five
of the yards. Van Jefferson lost three of the yards,
but near the end of the half. But when you
look at Karen Williams stats, you're gonna be like, wait,
what zero receptions for two yards? How does this happen?
(27:59):
But it did happen. I like Karen Williams. I don't
know if the Rams are gonna win, and I don't
think they're gonna win against the Niners in Week two,
but that is my number one option.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
We had heard rumblings last year and it just never materialized.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
But yeah, I think that there's I think that there's
something there that like to stick with a hot hand,
and we know Acres, honestly, we know Acres, and the
relationship there has been a roller coaster. So if you
can have something that is stable again, you know, they
may not win any games, but that if they do
win games and try to stay competitive, I think it's
(28:32):
probably through him.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
I want to add one more name. I didn't mention
Kenneth Gainwell, and that's because I actually have Kenneth gain Well.
He's on my bench. But if Kenneth Gainwell was an
option with does he move up given the way he
was used in week one?
Speaker 4 (28:52):
I would say one hundred percent. But it's a backfield
that I just don't know well.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
And that's the hard part, right, is what's the week
to week right game flow? Because this game was odd, right,
you know, owing to to the start, we're talking about
the weirdness and chaos of week one. I mean that
game was terrible off the jump, right, it looked like
you're going towards a total blowout, which means now down
(29:20):
distance and the whole play calling script on both sides
gets thrown out. It's like, wow, all right, suddenly we're
up big, all right, we're changing what we need like now,
we're just managing to finish this thing out and that
Alabama Mac makes things interesting. But is that the script
going forward? No, probably not. You're probably blowing them out
(29:40):
based on what you're calling as opposed to the bit
of chaos that comes with it. Take nothing away from
the balance and greatness of that Philly roster. So you know,
it's it. Look, with all of them, we're looking at
committee situations, excepting in the case of the Chargers, and
that's more just day. Is Echola available or not?
Speaker 4 (30:03):
You know, I'm gonna say this, I'm gonna go back
on my Gamewell comment because it's a short week for
Philadelphia and I wouldn't put it past them to say,
you know what, Gainwell you're getting Sunday.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
You know, Sunday against New England.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Maybe there's more DeAndre Swift on Thursday night against the Vikings.
Speaker 5 (30:23):
That's also it's a good point too, because Gamewell apparently
he didn't take part in Monday's walk through due to
a rib injury, so that is something to think about.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Well, ya also would think all you're gonna do is
pass against that abysmal Minnesota secondary. So you're running backs.
Just who's a better chipper?
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Yeah, I'll tell you what. First named four of the
six names that I had written down?
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Good, Why don't you give me the other? Jud No, no,
give me the other two and I'll come through with
whatever's left I do.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
And they aren't. They aren't running backs. I the Puka
Nakula is a name that I think you're gonna hear lot.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
How great is that?
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Well, it wasn't great for me on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
No, no, no, no no. Yeah, I'm just saying for
like randomness of all right, someone's got to get targets
with Cooper cup out. Who will it be?
Speaker 4 (31:14):
The The other name was actually a name that I
really liked last year, and the player made plays, but
I don't think that we noticed it as much because
of the of the team that he was on that
wasn't getting a lot of play, but he did get
the end zone on Sunday. Rashidzi Heat from the New
Orleans Saints. Yes, so that would be one. He may
(31:36):
have already been drafted, but depending on what you know,
what your league has. I liked him as a possible
pickup at wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Yeah, you've I mean there's a lot of like surprises,
right you start going down and looking at percentage owned,
whether it's on ESPN or Yah, who whatever. Look, a
guy like Tyler all Jear was only on fifty percent
of rosters as Week one comes to a close because
of the expectation of he's just a guy with b
(32:04):
John Robinson there, like, well, we know that's their identity,
run the football. So that was a shocker to me,
but I put him up there. It seems pretty obvious,
but clearly fantasy owners decided not to roster him. So
you go there. We already talked about Baltimore. If we're
gonna go down the hill road Edwards so long as
he's healthy. And again that comes with the huge caveat
(32:26):
and this is again budgeting your if you have a
free agent acquisition budget, what that's going to be in
the process, you know, for all your guillotine leaguers out
there and everything as well that you flow through. So
and a guy that I'm gonna put on the radar,
and it's something you know, Bucky Brooks and I talked
about on the Fox Football Sunday show. You know, talking
(32:46):
about guys who are unsigned, hag Is Starr and Kareem
Hunt right because of the NFL rules where you don't
have to guarantee money if they're out a roster after
week one. So all of a sudden, with these injuries,
suddenly he comes back in to play because now you
can cut him and you're not on the hook for
a bunch of cash and whatever else. So stop gap
solutions so depending on the depth, and the trend has
(33:09):
been to shorter benches to force waiver activity, particularly as
we started talking about funny and real and imagined monies
exchanging hands. But Cream Hunts a guy, I think I
would I would keep an eye on and see if
we get some reports based on the number of running
back injuries that are out there. The captain obvious stuff. Again, guys,
you would have thought that we're rostered as QB twos,
(33:31):
but not yet. The greatness of Rock Purty and I
wasn't a believer, downgraded him a little bit. Watched a
couple of those throws against Pittsburgh, and yes, does he
push the ball downfield a ton? No, But yak is
a really important thing and he stuck it into some
big spots. Talked about that Wilson to Wilson connection. How
about the second touchdown pass to Ayuk going right at
(33:53):
Fitzpatrick in the in the secondary. There that was you
couldn't have drawn aligned in the spot any better. And
then Jordan Love dominated the Bears. The Bears sucked, and
we're already talking about guys quitting in week one. I'm
looking at you, Chase clay Pool. You don't get a
key to the locker room anymore. You're done. But a
(34:14):
former Bear, Alan Robinson with Yantae Johnson pulling up lame
hamstring injury, we don't know how long, and look talk
about a no show effort Pittsburgh against San Francisco. But
Robinson had a pile of targets and made the most
of them in the second half. So we look at them.
And then two quick tight ends just based on targets
and opportunity. Zach Ertz with ten targets like Arizona's gonna
(34:37):
be bad, but so long as he's healthy and the
tight end position is a mess, you've got an opportunity there.
And then looking over to Carolina, when we look at
Hayden Hurst right, young quarterbacks, best friend and Frank Reich
loves the tight end, so opportunity there made the most
of it, seven targets, including a touchdown reception. He could
(35:00):
be a guy that week to week becomes a little
bit of the Ronco said it and forget it. You know,
we laughed about it last week, you know, with Noah
Gray in for Travis Kelcey and his six point one
points and people like, ah, it's nothing. It's like no, no, no, no.
Over the course of a full season, that made him
tight end seven based on twenty twenty two scoring. So
it shows you how quickly that position drops off.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
All right, So we named a bunch of names there.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
Hopefully that will help you be able to clear your
waivers better your team, because there's no better time to
do it than after week one.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
All right, So that about does it for this one.
Speaker 4 (35:37):
Anything you guys want to add before we we say goodbye.
Speaker 5 (35:40):
Be aggressive, aggressive if you're looking to jump on a
waiver claim. For a defensive stream, the Colts defense has
the Texans and the Giants defense has the Cardinals. I
know the Giants defense gave up a whole lot of points,
but you know a couple of those were defensive points
from the Cowboys, So yeah, I ain't afraid of the Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Anybody think that Daniel Jones got screwed on that Saquon
Barkley play, that that should have been a fumble and
not an interception. I'm taken up for Daniel Jones here.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
I'll tell you what you know on versus point, I
was gonna say I would almost maybe even do the opposite.
Speaker 5 (36:18):
No, you definitely could.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
I'd maybe go Texan's home game. Yeah, I don't know,
see what the Colts do on the road.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
But remember we already saw Gardner Minshew once.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Digged up a little.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
Yes, if it's just Gardner Minshew, you.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Know he likes to gamble a little down context, so.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Could be could be an option, all right. So for
Ryan Berschinger and Mike Carman, I'm Dan Byer. We hope
you have enjoyed this episode of I Want Your Flats,
and we're gonna come back at you with a new
one looking ahead the week two and all of the
other matchups that comes up on Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
So for the fellows, we'll talk to you next time
here and I Want Your Flat
