Week two of the NFL begins, but it is also
Jets Sandwich night. Which sandwich sandwich? We get our Jets sandwiches.
You and I made a bet in the Jets Bills game.
I told you I'll take the Jets. We're gonna smash them.
I don't need the points. The Jets win it wasn't
nice smashing, but they did win. And tonight sandwich sandwich
(01:18):
sandwich sandwich sandwich sandwich Night, Jets sandwich Night.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
I'm not nearly as excited as you are about it.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
You're eating a sandwich too? Why not? No, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Why aren't you not eating a sandwich because I don't
want it?
Speaker 4 (01:31):
What?
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Why did we bet sandwiches? And if you didn't want.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
A sandwich, I was being bought by you. I think
it would be a bad taste in my mouth.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
So why you could either buy a sandwich sandwich sing
we both eat it?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
If it was a free sand what is the lady
in the tramp?
Speaker 1 (01:50):
But? But but but that was a free.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Sandwich, then I'd enjoy it.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
But that's why we bet. I mean that that.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Mean buying the sandwich.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Who's the tramp? We bet?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
We bet just wouldn't be excited.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
That's how the bed goes. One of us wins and
buy sandwiches, the other one loses. Guys, don't avoid the
question who's the tramp?
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Where?
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Okay, you could be the tramp. That's fine, So Jason's
the lady? I got just picturing Mike and I eating spaghetti.
The one the one thing of spaghetti between our between
our mouths and we eating and stop we get too close,
oh Dady, the trap, like you would ever stop eating spaghetti?
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Saddam sandwich? You know what else is eating?
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Sandwich?
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Philadelphia sandwich? Minnesota sandwich?
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Jason, I guess what you ordered? What kind of sandwich
you ordered tonight? Go ahead, guess the burnt achilles? Hey,
Aaron Rodgers Achilles surgery. He had it Wednesday, told everybody
on Instagram it's a success. Same guy that put Tom
Brady back together. All good, every guy.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
As soon as the surgery's out, as long as you
wake up, you're gonna say it's a success.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Yeah, yeah, Am, How.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
You got to your destination? It could have been the
worst four hours of your life.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
How's your fly?
Speaker 3 (02:59):
It was bad and he got where you were supposed
to go. It's why all our friends in sports media
when they complain about flights or whatever, it's like, get
in the car.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
You don't like it, Get in the car. Sometimes people
get out of surgeries and not feeling good. I don't
think it went well all that. You put your watching
my INND because that's what he's gonna know. That's what
he's gonna put out. Nobody ever puts that out. If what,
I'm miserable. That guy was surly. He was not feeling awful.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
The anesteesiologist kept looking at me funny before he put
me under doctors wearing.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
A packer's hat. I didn't like it.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, the entire time. It's like when Seinfeld goes to
the dentist and it's Brian Cranston and his nurse.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Nurse had a Jordan Love jersey. I didn't like it.
It did not feel good, and not feel good about that.
Gonna say it was hopped up. It was went good,
It went good, It went good, it went well, and
more importantly, sandwich sandwich sandwich.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
More important, we haven't been able to order anything because
we got to do the special order thing and online
they don't let us do it.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Well, Alex can always order it on this computer for you.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Yeah, well, I think that's what he's gonna end up doing.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
He still has I'm out of the running. Actually I'm
doing Yeah, but I have the card. I'll actually terrify it.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
I'm here.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
No, right, if he's verified you had, don't pretend like
you haven't bought tons of stuff off of eBay off
of Harmon's credit. Okay, I bought cards to hide that
I was buying stuff, Okay, so he wouldn't know is.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Really still a thing.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
I bought a bunch of this really high quality seaweed. Uh,
he would know, which is so great? But to hide it,
I bought a bunch of Brock Party Rookie carss.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
I think I would pick up on that parties over
over the off season were grossly overpriced in my opinion,
I was I wasn't diving in at the price they
were at. I was looking for bargains elsewhere in the
football market. People like their Brock Party.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Sandwich sandwich, sandwich sandwich. People like sandwiches too, No sand.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
I mean I mentioned it to my daughter. Guess what
both of them have orders.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Yeah, Bob tell it, so bye bye, get a sandwich
for yourself. You're buying sandwiches for us, and it's just
gonna feel worse if you're not eating a sandwich.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
If you keep talking about this, suddenly I'm gonna have
to buy like another nine for everybody that's lurking around
the hallways.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
You shouldn't have bet the bills, Liza, I told you
that was you and me. Sandwich said, which Mike, just
tell them Jason's for a cop Okay?
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Uh.

successful Achilles surgery, I guess that's a good day after
the bad day Monday. Not having a good day today,
(05:51):
A good night tonight. The Minnesota Vikings Thursday Night Football.
The Vikings are not gonna be happy until they hand
the game completely to the Philadelphia Eagles. DeVante Smith a touchdown,
making it twenty seven to seven, sixty three yards from
Jalen Hurts, and now the route is on. Minnesota has
(06:14):
just killed themselves a turnover and a kickoff return interception,
the Justin Jefferson touchdown that looked that was the turnover.
There was just a killer at the end of the
first half where it's a thirteen to seven game and
Justin Jefferson catches a pass for thirty yards down to
the one yard line. With about thirty seconds left, what
has Justin Jefferson decide to do. No, I want to
(06:34):
put the ball over the pylon and into the end zone,
which is the worst play in the world. And what happens.
He fumbles through the end zone. And so instead of
the Vikings being on the one yard line and three
chances to punch it in or four chance is to
punch it in, Nope, it's a turnover to the Eagles,
who drive down Jake Elliott makes a sixty one yard
(06:56):
field goal, and instead of the Vikings going to the
locker room winning fourteen to ten, they're losing thirteen to seven.
That play out of all the turnovers, right out of
all the turnovers we've seen, the interceptions, everything, that play
made me bat bananas crazy because I don't understand why
players continue to do this. It's not a winner go
home play. If it's a winner go home play and
(07:18):
you got to try to put the ball over the pilon,
I get it. This is a thirty yard catch. This
is gonna give you first and goal with the one
with thirty seconds left, you have all kinds of time
to get the ball in the end zone.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
But no, Billy's not getting the ball back and don't
give me.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
But as a player, no, as a player, you know,
the coaches know to tell you, don't put the ball
over the pilon. But I want to score. I'm a star,
I want to score. No, it's not a winner. To
be smart, you're a football player. You're not somebody that
says I need to do this. No, no, don't give me.
All you're telling players to go against their there what
they what they do, and against their intuition and how
(07:51):
they play. No, it's easy to say, hey, don't put
the ball over the pilon, don't put the ball in
pielon because nothing bad, nothing good can come of it. Again,
if it's a winner, go home play. I get it.
You have to do it. But it's not first and
goal at the one. And now the game is completely different,
and it's a huge flip. It's a ten point flip.
And since that moment it's been all Philadelphia.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Well it's it. Super Toe comes out hits the sixty
one yarder.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
That's the half.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
And now not only were you not in the lead,
you've given up another three man. It's a ten point
swing just like that, and you could have run out
the rest of the clock, so they don't even get
the ball right, they end up running six plays thirty
seven yards in those thirty four seconds to get the
field goal attempt. They superte it, you know, like you
used to the old toy and you had a hammer.
(08:38):
It's smart.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
You would break the helmet after a while, because like, ah,
I cat, I broke the helmet, cracked the pla. I
had too hard. I ended too hard in the super toe.
That's my fault.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
But you just had the big opportunities and just like that,
you you gave up a seven because you ran a
masterful two minute plus drill right two forty four left
when you get the ball. I was like, all right,
how much can you bleed? Because you're starting to see
the lien from Philadelphia. They'd had that long protracted drive
(09:07):
at what sixteen plays and thirteen of them were runs,
so you were getting the lien. The offensive line was
starting to go to work. Here was keep your defense
off the field through a full halftime celebration or whatever else.
Instead they're back out on the field and deflated because
you gave up the seven points.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Twitter and how about a Fresco Mike get swelling down
the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon.
A quick update. May not be all lost for the Vikings,
as Kirk Cousins has just hit TJ. Hockinson, justin, Jefferson,
Randy Moss, keep going, Chuck Foreman, Chris Carter, Chris Carr.
(09:47):
That's pretty Good's still there? Jordan Addison with a big touchdown,
a sixty yard touchdown to make it twenty seven to fourteen.
So still and we're getting a lot of points in
this game. There's a lot of offense now. But yeah,
this could have been a game for the I mean really,
the Vikings would have been in control this game. And
plays like that just drive me absolutely crazy because they
don't need to happen. They don't need to happen.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
But here's the thing, right, you have this vaunted Eagles
offense and they had to grind it out right and
hurts for fantasy purposes. He got you the two rushing touchdowns. Congratulations,
and then all of a sudden you get the big strike.
But you've done a pretty good job. They were discombobulated,
having issues of their own and went to the ground
(10:30):
game and started to move the ball with regularity. But
when they went back to pass. There was nothing easy
for the Philadelphia offense, just like it was last week
against the Patriots. They got out to the big lead,
and then it was how do we hold on? How
do we have things work in our favor to finish?
And here for the Vikings, playing terrible football, turnovers more,
(10:52):
playing terrible football. You're still in the game, and just
like that you're getting smashed. Look like a couple of
big plays and your offensive ineptity. They'd never rushing first
down in the first half. Eagles had thirteen. Yeah, it's
been Now we're a little over six quarters into the season. Right,
we're seeing two teams who were two of the better
teams in the NFC last year. Right, Eagles make it
(11:14):
the Super Bowl, Vikings go to the playoffs. Vikings have
not looked good, the Viking the Vikings. But for me,
it's not that, Hey, what's wrong with them? It's last
year all the breaks went their way. It's like two
years ago. They did all the play last year they
all did. Yeah, they are in the middle all the
fifty to fifty times where that game was up in
(11:34):
the air, the ball bounced their way. Right the Vikings, Hey, listen,
we had a lot of karma last year and it's
just not started that way this year. And they realized
that maybe they missed Dalvin Cook a little bit more
because they can't run the football. They thought, we're just
gonna be pass happy driven now with Addison and Hockinson
and of course to add to Jefferson, Hey, this is
what we're gonna do. And it's been a slow start.
They're turning the football over. This is not an elite team.
(11:57):
The Eagles have looked a little bit better, but boy,
they've started slow. Not that I'm concerned because the roster
is so good, but my concern for the Eagles is
here the first five or six weeks is what's the
Super Bowl hangover for them? Like, because this is a
young team, they make it all the way there and
they lose, and they walk away thinking, if there was
different turf, we would have won. If they had thrown
(12:18):
a flag, we would have won. And for teams like that,
sometimes it takes them a little bit to get through
the next season before they get back to being the
team they were because you're playing the Super Bowl over
in your head, going we're gonna be back there. Let
let's just get to the playoffs, we're gonna be back there.
And so you start off slow before you realize, okay,
we have to focus.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
More on this. I can't keep thinking long term. You see,
you see the hangover for a lot of time.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
You also have a new coordinator, I mean, Stik's gone,
and you don't do a ton of work in the preseason, right,
You're not getting those live reps. So it's gonna take
some time. And like you said, when you get down
to brass tacks, your roster is better than others. So
eventually you're gonna be able to impose your will and
you can still use that Kakamani goal line situation that's indefensible, right,
(13:03):
So it hurts with his two rushing touchdowns, but if
you can get a lean and you can keep that
offensive line healthy, you're gonna be in pretty good shape overall.
So yeah, it's it's one of those type of games
for the for the Vikings. And let's face it, we
all know the history of Kirk Cousins in primetime games.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Primetime Kirk, we're gonna hand the ball to the Egan,
We're gonna hand the game of the We're not gonna
be happy till we give them this game and we
are zeroing too. But that's okay because in six weeks
maybe the Jets will get Kirk Cousins from the Viking.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Well, how much is the dead cap all of it
done for him?
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Right?
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Yeah? Him and Tannehill would be the guys.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
And I was looking at go ahead.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
If anything, the Vikings are getting Aaron Rodgers all on
Brett park.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
Well is the continuity effects?
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Yeah, but he can't be the big media star that
he is in New York. Now with Minnesota, this is
not gonna work, not gonna work. Twitter about a Fresco
Mike as swollen not not not not going to work anymore,
that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (14:04):

Swift getting all the carries for the Eagles a week
after not getting any of the.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Carries well, no gain Well, no gain well, and no Mountain.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Scott, who is now in concussion protocol and he's out.
And no goal line work. No Wilbert Montgomery.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Wow, that's a good Nola.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Shawn McCoy be tough man.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
Shady comes back out of the FS one studio.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
No Charlie Garner, no La Garrett Blunt, Oh yeah, no Lagarrett,
all the legends but yeah, I mean, and no goal
line carries. No Steve Van Buren, No, none of those
going all away enjoying.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
He just keeps chiming in with names. You're like, oh,
you gotta get out. It's like the quiet.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, this will
forever be known as the DeAndre Swift Game. A touchdown
run after a big run to set up the touchdown
has given the Eagles a thirty four to twenty one lead.
It is a new career high in yards for DeAndre Smith,
a Deondre Swift, breaking the mark he set last year
(15:34):
of one hundred and forty four yards against the Eagles.
So if the Eagles things work out, DeAndre Swift now
up to one hundred and seventy yards on the ground,
and Andy got his touch.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
I finally got his touchdown after two of them got
vultured by Hurtz. He does have three receptions, so there's
a bonus three points for the and six yards there.
So uh yeah, twenty six points, six fantasy points. If
you started him this week?
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Is that good? I'd mean really, because you picked him
up and after either you had him on your team
after week one, You're like, he's lost, He's not even
gonna be part of the mix. Now, Kenneth Gainwell, Oh,
I got Kenneth Gainwell. It's awesome Kenneth Gainwell. And then
Gainwell gets hurt and you're saying, well, how many carries?
Is the wonder? Swift really gonna get all of them?
All of them? One hundred and seventy hearts twenty five.
(16:26):
This is like an old school day for it is
like Frank Taylor, Hey, twenty five carries a buck seventy
But when we get down where we're at, with four
minutes remaining, the vikings with the football the Eagles for
the night forty five rushing attempts twenty five from Swift,
five from Boston.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Scott Oh He's averaged eight yards carry as well. The
bludgeoning continues. Rashod Penny even got a couple of carries,
not quite the same level of success, just three for
nine and then Jalen Hurts two touchdowns but twelve scrambles,
slash design runs, slash quarterback sneaks for thirty five yards.
You've going for two hundred and fifty four yards on
(17:02):
the ground on the wherea his hurts efficient eighteen of
twenty three, one hundred and ninety three, one in one
taking care of the ball. By way of contrast, Alexander
Madison sing the song eight carries twenty eight yards run.
Game absolutely invisible for Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
This is some kind of game right now for the Eagles,
for DeAndre Swift and the flip side, because now this
is where things are going to get really interesting. Kirk
Cousins is having a huge game for the Vikings. I mean,
he's twenty five out of thirty five, three hundred yards,
three touchdowns. The Justin Jefferson play reaching for the pylon
at the end of the first half is the biggest
(17:43):
play of the game. Instead of a first and goal
at the one and you're going to take a fourteen
to ten lead. Justin Jefferson, catching a thirty yard pass, decides,
I want to try to put the ball over the pilon. Oh,
it's a player's instincts. No, you tell them not to
do that. We've seen it so many times. Don't do it.
If it's a if it's a winner, go home play. Yes,
try to put the ball over the goal line. But
(18:04):
if you don't have to, don't do it. Because the
bad is really bad. What does Justin Jefferson do instead
of first down and goal at the one half yard line,
you're getting in the end zone. He fumbles it through
the end zone, touchback, the Eagles take over, They go
down and Jake Ellie kicks a sixty one yard field goal.
So instead the Eagles go up thirteen to seven at halftime,
(18:25):
instead of it would have been a fourteen to ten
lead for the Vikings. That plays. Still, all this offense,
everything we've seen it just by drives me so crazy
when I see players do that, because nothing good comes it.
You've seen it, you've seen it, But is it? I'm
just I have to score be I gotta be the
glamour guy, right, I gotta be the glamor guy. No,
you don't do it. And he's the best receiver in
(18:46):
the NFL. He's gotta know, all right, I just got it.
I got a thirty yard reception here. I don't need
to put the ball in the end zone. It's okay.
It wasn't fourth and one. There isn't one second left
on the clock. There's thirty seconds left to go. We're
gonna have a You gotta know the time this week.
You get paid a lot of money to be this
is what happens in the NFL. So I don't feel like, oh,
you're asking a player to go against their instinct. That's
the biggest play of the game, the big as great
(19:07):
a game as justin Jefferson is having. It's great his
fault this this game, that play that is completely on him,
and it's a different game if he just holds onto
the football.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Somewhere someone's yelling. That's why they didn't pay him. But
you have the you know, you got a Glamour Boys
reference in there, as.
Speaker 5 (19:26):
The Glamor Boys always on the gas land. No Glamor
Glamour Boys having all under control. That's a great love.
I love living color man. I thought they would have
a bunch of hit albums after hit albums, but we
got three good songs. The glamy boys are always thinking. Okay,
so that's what's happening right now. It's a thirty four
(19:47):
to twenty one game. Real, justin Jefferson really that that's
the play of the game easily. We got Jay Glazer
coming up after the game to break this down a
little bit more. But here's the thing, and here's a
and here's something that I I firmly believe going forward
with Aaron Rodgers and the Jets. Rogers has his surgery today, right,
(20:08):
We didn't know when he was having it, and he
let everybody know, Hey, I had my surgery wednesday. I'm
feeling great. Same doctor that worked on Tom Brady when
he got hurt in two thousand and eight. Great, feeling
great about it.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Oh, I means there's a lot of surgery. He's in
between there. He's skill nine two thousand and eight. Now, Well,
but you're talking about eighteen years of innovation.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Yeah, but I get it. But you canna say, hey,
and you know Jim Dalrymple, boy, he really is running around. Granted,
who's Jim Dower? No, Tom Brady, the guy that worked
on Tom Brady. But we talked to Jordan Schultz last
night and he said, ay, you know, the Jets right
now they see him all in on on Zach Wilson.
But in a few weeks we'll see. I'll tell you
this and I'll give you I'll pinpoint stuff for you.
(20:48):
Zach Wilson is the best choice for the Jets right now.
He's not a great choice, but he's the best choice.
Why because he knows the team, he knows the offense.
They have confidence in him. Right now. He's gonna have
Aaron Rodgers helping him. He looked a little bit better.
There is nobody you can put in there or trade
for or sign off the street. That's gonna be an
improvement because a no team is trading you their backup quarter.
(21:10):
It's great to say, go get Andy Dalton, go get
Jameis Winston. None of these teams are trading their guys.
That's just stupid. That's just again, there were so many
stupid people this week when it came to what the
Jets should do. Nobody's trading their guys. As we mentioned this,
you mentioned earlier this week, seventy five guys played quarterback
last year. After Week one, no one is trading their backup.
No one's doing it. They're not doing it. It's just
stupid to say that. So if you said it, I'm sorry,
(21:32):
but you're stupid. And how many of it back ups
are any good anyway?
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Right? No?
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Exactly? I mean, bonder is where we're getting. None of
those guys are coming in and because no one's gonna
trade them. So now you're talking about the guys off
the street, Matt Ryan or Philip Rivers. These guys are
unemployed for a reason. If it's not Tom Brady, you
don't want a guy coming off the street because it's
not gonna help. It's Zach better for better or for worse.
They need to be Zach Wilson driven because he is
(21:56):
the best choice for now. Now is it a great choice, No,
but it's the best choice. Now you get to the
trading deadline. Okay, get to the trading deadline, and the
Jets are hanging around the playoff picture. They're not done.
I told you they're gonna win ten games go to
the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
But let's just say we got to got to get no, no.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
No, we're winning ten games to get into the playoffs.
But let me throw this out there because I got names,
because I got names. I got names. I got names.
You made it personal. I got names. Let's say you
get close to the deadline and the Jets are hovering.
They're not they're not out of it. They're around five hundred. Sure,
they're playing well, but Zach Wilson just stinks. All right,
Zack Wilson's just not what they thought he was going
(22:38):
to do. They're not gonna give this year away, so
what are they gonna do? Then? Then they're gonna look
and say, Okay, we're at the trading deadline. What teams
out there have not had to start to the season
they expected. They're sitting at one and six, one and seven,
and hey, you know what, we may as well tank
and try to get Caleb Williams or somebody else, or
(22:59):
Drake may or should or Sanders or whoever else you
want to get. This is not working for us. We
need to move on. When it gets close to the deadline,
there's two guys. The Jets will go out and get
two guys. One of them is playing in this game
right now, and that's Kirk Cousins. Even though he didn't
want to go there a few years ago. If the
Vikings are and the Vikings are gonna start zero to two.
(23:20):
If the Vikings are bad, because Kirk Cousins this is
the last year.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Of his contract, thirty five million dollar deal.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
The Vikings will trade Kirk Cousins to the Jets and
they will move on from Kirk Cousins and get ready
to go for next year. The other guy is Ryan
Tannehill because the Titans, if they stink all right, they're
gonna want to move on. We're gonna play our guys,
want to play Will Levis. When maybe Malik Willis, whoever
knows you, whoever knows you want to play, maybe Kerry
Collins comes back, they will move on. Those are the
(23:46):
two guys that the Jets will trade for. That's it.
That's your list. That is your list of players who
will be available that could take over for Zach Wilson,
Kirk Cousins, Ryan Tannill, because the Jets are not gonna
Matthew Stafford. Matthew Stafford's do way too much.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
When he next He's got several years left and you're
already on the hook for not half blow Rogers Mond
not happening if he's coming back yet.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
You're not taking on salary, You're not taking on anything
that's gonna hurt you in twenty twenty four. You're not
doing it. You are taking on a quarterback that you
can walk away from after this year. Those are your
two guys. Those are your two veterans that will cost
you nothing that you'll be able to say, let's go
get both of these guys. Let's go get one of these.
That's where the Jets are going, Zach Wilson, Kirk Cousins,
(24:27):
Ryan Tannehill in that order, and the worst the Vikings do.
So I'm rooting against the Vikings because in case the
Jets need somebody Kirk Cousins, Kirk Cousins Kirk and the
same thing Ryan teded. Those are the guys that they
would go get to keep this season afloat. That's it.
That's the list, those two guys. But that's in a
few weeks.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Well, Ryan Tannehill may become very available, very quickly, based
on what Mike Vrabel had to say in his comment
a little earlier, if they continue to have me a
bit of a struggle. This week they face the Chargers
Frostburg will be there live and in living color to
let us know all about that thing. Yeah, he's he
(25:07):
will literally be the twelfth man trying to tackle Derrick Henry,
but legitimately like Rabel already. And that's the thing this year.
You know, I talked about injuries. We always get into
offensive line play. We love to do that here on
the show because it's well one and lost in the trenches.
But we've also had a guy's gotten pretty pretty bold
(25:28):
with some of their commentary. You heard Austin Eckler talking
about health, talking about coaching, and really laying it out
in media appearances. This week Vrabel going after decision making
up for Tannehill and really getting aggressive, I think in
terms of his commentary there about taking care of the football.
(25:50):
So when we look at it, yeah, Mike Malik Willis
get another run, and then if it goes bad and
when they cut these guys loose, he's a situation whereby
it's all right, well, let's see if will Levis can
become the guy. But if the season really does go
to hell, now you've got a bunch of quarterbacks coming
in to the league next year because they're also dealing
(26:13):
This week, DeAndre Hopkins isn't practicing. Treyln Burts is still
iffy and spotty in terms of his day to day. So,
I mean, you've got questions already going into a week
two with a team that is built to be smash
mouth and to bludging you. And you got a quarterback
that's that question. Yeah, it's a very short list. Three guys,
one of whom we already just categorically ruled out Tom
(26:35):
Brady hate walking through that door, not happening. So these two.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Potential be sure to catch live editions of The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,

out of the Street. I get to step up a
couple time, a couple steps and just heave it as
far as I possibly can.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
My mistake there was trying to get another bite of
my Jets sandwich. Yeah, before he went on the air.
Sandwich sandwich sand which is it delicious? Yes, it's delicious.
Harmon paying off the bet tonight we bet on the
Jets bills Monday night. I won free sandwich, sandwich, sandwich
sand Man.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
That's a pretty quick payoff, just not normally what happens
in the radio business. Come on now.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Tonight show brought to my Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling

the Vikings do not get the on sidekick. The Eagles
do have to pun away. Vikings get one last desperation
(27:50):
Hail Mary from their own ten yard line. It falls incomplete.
The Vikings fall to zero and two. The Eagles go
to two and oh, joining us now in the hot
line nobody better NFL on Fox insider Jay Glazer. He's
on Twitter at Jay Glazer. Jay, what's happening, buddy?
Speaker 4 (28:06):
How are you? Hey?
Speaker 3 (28:09):
That's going on?
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Somebody? Hey? First, I want to say, you know, you
do a lot of stuff, you give back a lot,
but you know, not many people would have their uber
driver on their podcast like you did with Howie Long
and the Unbreakable Mental Health Podcast. I mean not many
people have their uber driver on. But you did that
and I dig.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
That, and I actually gave them a two extra stars
for that for a target. I'm proud of them. How
about that though? How about yeah? For people who have
not heard the Howe Long podcasts, be on break well,
first of all, the story and we'll get to obviously
the game of the story that he tried, like you
know how he is the straight most straight lace gyp
only i'd get him to be old how We Long again?
(28:48):
And I punched him in the forum a couple of
years ago when I was trying to kyle along and
he put his car key in his middle finger and
try to punch me in the eye.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
I don't know. I always appreciate the nfl at thoughts
intro when you walk up to him and you get
put the camera to go tell me how handsome am
I todays and you're just waiting to see what his
response is going to be.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
I got to get me some of that.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
That was a great response.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
You didn't see that going.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
I tell you what, this is what we have such
a great brotherren over there, Like he opened up to
me on the podcast this week. People think he's from
southern California, and I asked him what his unbreakable moan was.
And people don't realize this. He grew up in Charleston, Massachusetts,
where the town was the movie of the town, you know,
with the most bank lobberies of any town in America.
And his dad was homeless and he would walk past
(29:42):
his dad to school every day like how he grew
up tough man and yeah, people have no And when
you know, we called the podcast and I put it
out yesterday, he hit me up. He goes, wow, I
was deep and I.
Speaker 6 (29:53):
Said, yeah, you said it.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
He said, I know. I just you know, I don't
really say it a lot. And you know, people just
have this this other notion to him that he grew
he's like a southern California. He's not.
Speaker 6 (30:05):
He's a tough Boston dude and with the villanova but
mad did that, you know, having to do it. But
also he talked about the podcast about forgiveness, like you know,
getting screw that and overcoming that and then having him
around his grandkids. You know, his got around you know,
Chris and Colin Howard Junior stuff. It's just that's why
you know, I.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Would go to Howie I adopted my son to people
out here. I don't know if you know this or not.
My son Sammy and I, you know, I was like
an insta dat and I didn't know what I was doing.
And Howard's the one I really leaned into him how
to be a dad?
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Now, speaking of forgiveness, did you forgive him for trying
to put your eye out with his car ki or
is that is that still between you know he would.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
Get back from me because I just cracked the form.
So yeah, it was all that was Charles Slave. We're good.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
If he connects like you've been on TV the last
year's with an eye patch, it's like.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
You know, but Nippy connected, My eye was done. My
life is over. He's called sposed to be, which is jail.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
All these great things about Allie I I good movement,
all that.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Train and Jay it comes in handy Man, Bob and weeds.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
He literally had a car key in between his middle
knuckles to punch me in my freaking eye.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Hey, check out Jay's Twitter page at Jay Glazier. There's
a bit there with that conversation with Howie Long. Of course,
Unbreakable a mental health podcast. It is a must listen
every single week. Again. Details on that again at Jay's
Twitter page at Jay Glazer. Well, all right, so I
don't know how we get the football from that. We
just kind of have to do it.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
H Uh.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
Eagles win tonight. Vikings are zeroing too. The Vikings turn
the Bowl over a ton Jay, I watched this game ago. Okay,
the Eagles seem like they're getting it together a little bit.
But boy, this Viking scene that had everything go right
last year, they're in a lot of trouble right now.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
I hope there are a lot of trouble going too.
But I think also the last year they had a
lot of games that they were kind of miracle games, right,
and they.
Speaker 6 (32:13):
I think I think, look when when Quasi.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
And the GM over there and kearn o'connen came in,
they had a few year plan, and you know that's
what you kind of look at some things like hey,
get rid of Dalvin Cook and what are they going
to do? I think they're like a four year planner
sung along those lines, and you know, all of a
sudden last year they kind of shocked the world. They
don't up into that that four year plan because they
knew they had to rebuild. But finally the others out
of all the Eagles, I mean Eagles are they're so sad.
(32:39):
Let me, let me go to this Jalen Carter again
a good get right. And you look at Jalen Carter,
he's so incredibly talented. But most teams, a lot of
teams could not have Jalen Carter with the baggage he
came with, and you know, with the issues he came with.
But there's a dude in Philey named Dom Desantro. He's
their head of security. Okay, this guy's like, I'm gonna
(32:59):
call him that, their vice president of stuff. They're the
only team that could have taken Jalen and turned him
into a choir boy because of Dom. Donald like helps
these guys. He is the greatest life coach. He's life
cycle therapist. He's have to leave cycle therapist. He's the
three hundred and eighty pound gorilla standing behind uh uh.
(33:23):
You know Nick Saharany when he's walking off the field,
you know, big you know, kind of jersey kind of
goombach on the guy. You'll see him. Everybody kind of looks.
But behind the who's that big security guy. It's big Dom,
but big dom is the reason why they could get
a guy like Jalen Harder a lot of teams couldn't
because he does he helps guys out kind of with
their life with life skills and be able to get
(33:46):
these guys set in the road success. It's it's incredible.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Well for the Eagles watching this game, Jay good old
fashioned bullyball when the passing game bogged down a bit,
and to see a guy like DeAndre Swift run wild
and you get up to forty eight and two fifty nine,
feel pretty good? Did that You can take time with
the rest of the identity to sort out.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
Yeah, that's exactly right. You look, you know, look Hyry
Rovan does a great job where they're also picking you know,
other teams players. How he's a funny guy too, because
he'll call the he'll call people kind of have a
running joke, and I think he knows about it. It's
almost like, hey, he'll call like a team for like
their best player. Like I'll call like a forty nine.
They're like, hey, we'll give you a five for Nick Bost.
They'll turn to a four if he played eighty percent
(34:30):
of the snaps. And you know he's like he's always
trying to get other teams great players, and a lot
of times he does a j Brown did a great
job on draft Day. Not only did he did, they
had a did they have to swing a deal for age?
But then I get a contract done for him before
that deal got like that trade was made, So that
was going on the clock guy like DeAndre Slipps getting
(34:50):
him done off of like he Howie does a really
good job getting players over there from other teams. But
he's always like swinging for the fences. But the best
players and other teams. Everyone's the well, but probably a
little bit more than every once in a while he
gets lucky.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Jay Glazer our guest the Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carmon live from the tire rack dot Com Studios. So
the Eagles get the win there too and know everything
seems fine. Aaron Rodgers had very successful Achilles surgery today, Jay,
I what is next for the Jets? They're sticking with
Zach Wilson for now? Is it a whole season? Can
they make a move?
Speaker 4 (35:23):
What?
Speaker 1 (35:23):
What are you hearing on this?
Speaker 4 (35:25):
I think, you know, I don't think they know exactly
what they're gonna do yet. You know, it's interesting.
Speaker 6 (35:29):
First of all, you.
Speaker 4 (35:30):
Know, Aaron went today and I don't know how much
to talk about all this time the broadcast side to
doctor Neil Latross, who is the man when it comes
to surgeries in sports. That's the guy. And you know,
so he went to the right guys out here at
we fans. He's done everybody from Connor McGregor to Chazelle
to Tom Grady to like say, he's done everybody. He's
(35:54):
just gruble with Della Trott does. So he's in great
hands there.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
He would have done your eye surgery if how we
put your eye.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
Would Actually I think he's done somehow he surgeries And
Kyle's like he's he's actually Stalloon's brother in law. Really, yes,
brother in law yet, but he is the best. He is.
He's the guy. They're Aaron's in great hands. But I
think the Jets also, look, you know, right after they
came out texting Robert solid deal and that I like, listen, man,
(36:23):
like just go back to the old adage of like
running game and defense wins championships. And I got a
great running game. Like you know, everybody said they're gonna
hold off on reall. They didn't many Brant Wild They
you know, Dalvin Cook's just gonna get cooking more and
that you know, jeff Olbrik's defense over there. I think
even without Aaron, they're they're not as much a pickle
(36:43):
as we think, as long as that doesn't screw it
up for everybody else. And that's what all they need
from They don't need him, They don't need the same
expectations they had when they took him in the second
pick of the draft. They just needs him not to
mess it up for the running game. In the defense.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Could they go get.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Lyle Collins like all these other teams are lining up for.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
Yeah, but they always did. Yeah, that's one thing they did.
They worked in there about the offensive line the whole time.
Hunting Camper there was in one place and that's where
make a lot of teams. You look at the shadow
the freak and they starting they went out right away,
grabbed two offense lineman Jason Peters right and just kind
of loaded up there. But man, it's hard to get
off at the lineman these day, especially like like you
(37:22):
think about also like just in the future, like kids
are going to play defense right from high school to college.
They want to be a defen side the ball, not
the offensive side of the ball. It's just hard to get.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
That depth, Jay outside of the Jets. Now we look
at some of the big games coming in off of
Week one, week two, suddenly the Dallas Cowboys go from Hey,
the Cowboys could be pretty good too. Oh my god,
they're Super Bowl favorites. You buying the hype for the
Cowboys after Week one against the Giants, Well that was
that was a man.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
You can't say anything take away from them, right yet
they were takeaways ball, they were a Dallas always comes
like with so much expectations, so they have more than
just a normal They don't just play their opponent. They
play all the expectations you know they have. I would
say the Dallas Tabloys and the Yankee at the Red Sox,
the Celtics, the Lakers all wrapped up and won, you know.
(38:19):
So there's they're always battles of us. So for them
to go out and put out a performance like that, yeah,
I think you gotta be bottom Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
All right, let me ask the obvious follow up question
the Giants and the Steelers, what the hell happened?
Speaker 4 (38:34):
Here's what I'll say this. I think the Giants just
kind of kind of go back to what they did
offensive did last year. But before even like before the
Giants defense gave up a point, they were already down
sixteen to nothing just from turnovers. Right, But the Steelers, look,
Mike tim Win was kind of you know, we've seen
him start slowing the past. The dude has never ever,
(38:57):
ever had a losing season, never, so he makes better
adjustments during the year than any coach in this league.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
All Right, So, lastly, Jay, let leave us with this
yes or no? What did you text us.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
Trying to say I'm trying not to have overreaction Monday.
You know, I get, but because this week freaking one?
Speaker 3 (39:19):
No, I know, ye. And that's the problem is I go,
I go to the negative of the teams that I
liked that disappointed me.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
Jay, so straight MS. Last year two thousand and seven,
the Giant West, they started owing too, and they gave
up I think forty eight and forty nine points respectively
in those first two games. They average, yeah, like forty
eight points a game. Give it up if you get
look it up. I don't know what it was, but
it was it was up there to a tixty games
per game and then it was like they all sat down.
(39:46):
They were Steve Stack knows their defense Cort, and they're like, hey, listen,
we're coind of ninety five percent shirt we're doing here.
We need to be one hundred percent Choret just go
for it. And all of a sudden, man, that numbers
came all the way down, and the Giants about in
the wildcard going to win the Super Bowl. So look,
if you looked at them, we're born that year he
would so team thinks he had the biggest upset sup
Bowl history by beating the Patriots that year.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
All right, So I was gonna close by saying, did
you text Strahan after the Giants game on Sunday or
George you let him go for a little bit.
Speaker 4 (40:14):
Nah, he was flying on his G nine or whatever.
It's all.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
That's our show, NFL on Fox. Inside of Jay Glazer
