(00:51):
All the latest news coming off of TNF. How good
was justin Fields? How good was Sam Howell? What's wrong
with the Giants? All got great stuff with Jay coming up?
You know who wasn't good? Who wasn't good? Jack del
Rio No, Jack del Rio no not. Jd R did
not have a go O D G A M.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
See, I don't think we have the the odds.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
We were talking odds last hour about head coaches getting fired.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, so Rod Rivers probably moved up into the metal stand.
Sure hit refresh updated with the results of Thursday Night Football.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
Yeah, I've found that one update. But I want to
see if we can get an updated list on the
coordinator potentially to get canned. Okay, because he's got to
be close right now, they've got a negative fifty one
point differential.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Yet offense not the problem. They are only scoring twenty
points a game. Yeah, but that's that's not as big
a problem.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
As the kay.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
But the defense is not terrible aspect, especially when you
got that defensive line and you're still getting no help
and your back seven is struggling.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Yeah, that's gonna do it for you. It's gonna do it. U.
But TNF tonight, Yes, we did watch the Bears thump
the Commanders. Yeah, we Bears unbelievable night. Not I did
a playoffs begin ZJ Moore worth about forty nine in
Fantasy BPR League. Now he's thirty two for Justin Fields.
But Al Michaels, who broadcasts the game time. He just
(02:11):
does every week with Kirk Kurbstreet, and it's it's kind
of weird.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
You know.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Sometimes when I go back and watch some TNF and
I listen to al Michaels and Kirkurbstreet and I go,
this is just the oddest pairing in the world. Well,
it's just so odd. It's like al Michaels talks and
Kirk just sits there and goes, all right, when am
I just gonna say something? All right, Gret, I'll just
say this, and I'll like, there's no chemistry. No, It's like, look,
I'm here for TNF and it's a big check. And
(02:36):
Kirk is like, I'm here for tn F. It's a
big check. All right, great, as long as you know
what we're here for. But ahead of the Thursday night game,
al Michaels made some big time headlines because he did
an interview with CNN's Chris Wallace in which he dropped
a bombshell. Remember, al Michaels is seventy eight years old,
(02:56):
and he was asked a very specific question. Al Michaels
was called so those famous games in sports history. Everything
got to see him at the big Barrett thing here
a couple couple of months ago where he told stories
spun yards. It was great.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
I want.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
He was asked a question that maybe you can believe
or maybe not believe. Oh his answer, let's hear it.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
Is it true that you have never knowingly eaten a
vegetable in your life?
Speaker 2 (03:30):
That is true?
Speaker 1 (03:31):
That is true.
Speaker 7 (03:32):
I was warned when my parents were eighteen. My mother
hadn't even read Doctor Spock at that point, so she
just let me have the run of the of the course,
and I always pushed the vegetables away to this day. No,
And I guess what I've proven, Chris, is that man
does not need vegetables to survive.
Speaker 6 (03:54):
But is it just possible that you would like I'm
thinking of one of the more non objectionable vegetables a carrot.
Speaker 7 (04:01):
Oh please please, a carrot? No, okay, No, that's an
objectable vegetable.
Speaker 6 (04:06):
I mean, I really, I mean, how would you know
you've never tasted it?
Speaker 7 (04:10):
I look at it. I just don't even like the
look of it, and I surmise what it might taste like.
In terms of the texture of it.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
I think a lot of it probably has to do it.
Speaker 7 (04:19):
It just doesn't look like something that would go down,
well spuck.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Because you got it. You gotta do it all right.
So I've never knowingly eaten a vegetable in my life.
He's seventy eight years old. Obviously the guy does not
eat vegetables, and here he is going strong and ounce
in TNF games all of this. Does he take a
big multi vitamin? Well, sometimes, I'm sure you can take vitamins.
So what's he take for the roughage? Allow you to
maybe a rough vitamin, maybe just scruff it up on
(04:45):
the ground a little bit and then you swallow it.
That's how it comes.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
I'm just saying, you know, it's seventy eight. You know
you gotta keep stuff moving. Now there are hot takes,
and there's this. I have never had a vegetation knowingly,
Alex Tyshert, I know you.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Are chomping at the on this. Well, how's you got feeling?
How do you feel about al Michaels. I have never
knowingly eaten a vegetable, and here he is, seventy eight,
with the career he's had, just work until eleven twelve
o'clock at night on a Thursday. Vegetables overrated? Your reaction?
Speaker 8 (05:15):
Can I do my best wedding crashers line real quick.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Uh, it depends on then I'm thinking all the way fruit.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
He depends on the line, and it's arable. I can
do it on radio. Okay, what do you think?
Speaker 8 (05:29):
Erroneous on both counts. There's no way this guy's been
his entire life not knowingly eating a vegetable.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
I called, yes, How do you know? Maybe just doesn't
eat vegetables.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Maybe maybe they've ground up like spinach and stuff and
put it in meat balls, he says, like he did
with the kids.
Speaker 8 (05:43):
Okay, he's never had pasta sauce. He's he's never had pasta.
You don't have to have pasta.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
You don't have to. You can have a cream sauce
and not have anything. He's never had mari and aerpasta.
You tomatoes. Tomato is a fruit, isn't it.
Speaker 8 (05:58):
That's arguable? Okay, I see more as a veggie. But
some say, for okay, a potato. He's never had a potato.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, it does. It doesn't like fries, he says, never
had never had a vegetable. There's no way you think
he hasn't had vegetable at all. There's no way. Why
why do you say there's no way. How is he alive?
I could still be alive. There's no way. Why can't
you be alive?
Speaker 8 (06:20):
You need minerals, fiber. Maybe he's taking vitamins, so then
he's had vegetables through vitamin form.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
That's vitamin but that's not eating a vegetable. I don't know, man,
haven't I think?
Speaker 4 (06:32):
Now we're getting into some technicalities. You'reesting you know, the
qualities of.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
A good vegetable. One of my one of my really
good friends that I coach with a lot, just tell
you this quick story because it's really pretty funny that
I coach with a long time. He's got a plant
or fashion of his foot and the doctor's doctor told him,
he's he's he's I think he's forty eight, so he's
a couple of years younger his foot. He was and
he was trying to and he was eating stuff and
it was and it was great. It was all kinds
of broccoli and vegetables. And the doctor told him, you
(07:01):
need to start drinking a lot of water, a lot
more water, and that will help your plan of fashion.
He was like, okay, great, And the doctor said, because
how much water do you drink? And he told him,
and the doctor said, oh, you can't drink that much
water and survive. You have to drink this much water.
And I said to the doctor, well, clearly that's not
true because I'm here and I haven't dranked that water
yet in my life, So how can you tell me
(07:22):
that I can't do it?
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Well?
Speaker 1 (07:23):
And then the doctor went on this whole well this
as you get older drinking, Yeah, but no, but you
just said you can't not drink, that you can't drink
that little amount of water to survive, and clearly I've survived.
Speaker 8 (07:33):
I will say I have agreed with you on this
argument like halfway, because it is wild to think like
there's a certain level of what your body needs but
people still live. So it trips me out too, Like,
if you want to make the argument, I can agree.
Maybe Willingly, he's never eaten a vegetable, Willingly, right, vegetables
overrated vegetables.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
With that, I think fruits are more important. Okay, but
he said no vegetable, But you just said now, no vegetables,
no vegetable vegetables. I don't want to believe in overrated.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Yeah, I know you don't want to believe this, right,
This is one of those you know, you're taking me
down a dark place, and it's counter to tight shirts
entire bats And that's the thing.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
This is, like ty Shirt said, yeah, this is like
taking the entire the lie he's lived his life on.
It's completely just you know, taking it. It's pulling the
rug out from under you. Pretty well, this lie you
thought about. I got to eat all these things to
be healthy and live and.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
Not clearly but going back to the water thing, right,
it's like the old a eight glasses, sixty four ounces whatever, like, well,
my body is different than yours, right weight, height, all
of these different things, muscle mass, like, all of that's
going to be different. So saying this is what you
need to drink categorically is also just wrong. We've been
(08:49):
wrong headed about a lot of these things. B M
I and whatever else. Right there, we got we got
into a deep dark He.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Has no seventy eight with no vets, He no understand
on this.
Speaker 8 (09:01):
I'm playing Simon and Garfunkles sound of Silence the whole
way Home Team. I've been living a lie and he's yeah,
you have.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
But here's the other part though, Next time we order pizza,
you want me to get like extra meatballs at this point,
what am I doing?
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:14):
There, yeah, what yeah?
Speaker 5 (09:15):
You know.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
But here's here's the other question though, like a in
a moment of honesty, if he follow it up, he's like,
you know, how do you feel inside? Do you feel okay?
Do you go through feeling a little heavy, bloated or
you know you you just don't feel right all the time?
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Right?
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Are you getting enough vitamins? He would say, no, Thursday
night football makes me feel that way. You see, I
don't like these games. He's all smart out of you
get a big fat check. Clearly that out weighs, however
miserable you meique games are awful. You tell me how
you feel when you're broadcasting Jaguars Titans and it's thirteen
to nine in the middle of the fourth quarter and
you're sitting next to Kirk kurb Street who's on his
(09:52):
phone the entire time, not even talking to you.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
You tell me how you feel it. If you feel bloated,
tell me how you feel that. I was trying to
stand there. You you went all mean about the Thursday
night football schedule.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Now, he has said in the past that he's never
this is not like Hey, the first time he said
this before in other interviews like like fifteen.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Sure it clearly didn't come out of nowhere had an
interview said I've never eat a vegetable.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
I mean, I don't know, I don't know where the
whole Hey, I was born. My parents were eighteen. Like,
because your parents were so young when you were born, well.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
You referenced the vegetables, well, no reference to Doc Spock
in other words, what you should be eating, how you
should be raising a baby.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
So he was so he was born like he was superman.
I don't need any of this because I'm superman. I
don't know my parents, my parents, My parents were eighteen
and then my dad read something off a wall and
they put me in this shit and I clashed, crash
landed on earth in Indiana, and the clerks took me
in and they raised me. I became a newspaper man.
Then I fell in love with Lois Lane. I created
(10:51):
the Fortress of Solitude, and here I am no many cavil.
Speaker 5 (10:54):
No.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Look, I'm not going to claim like my house growing up,
vegetables weren't like staples, Like, it wasn't every meal, but
when they showed up, you were gonna eat him. Otherwise
you weren't getting anything else. It was gonna be sitting
there the next meal. Or if you really were obstinate
and acted like an ass about it, you got a belt.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
So call what it is. It Just like we always say,
sometimes ideas that were good ideas for a long time
aren't always the best idea just because we did them.
It could just be an abnormality. Too tight shirt is
absolutely shaken. I'm not feeling it. If you had a
video camera on him right now, he's increduling, Like do
you think we should clone al Michaels like you should?
(11:36):
I mean, forget about ai al Michael's like we need
like part of his body, like his whatever, his blood,
his plasmas, platelets, whatever, because I mean, if you can
live without eating vegetables, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 8 (11:47):
There might be something here with you said his parents
being so young, maybe that's something too, Okay, they had
so much just vibrant life within them, uncorroded and toxic
from the world, that they just sprung out even better life.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
Bastion, some positivity. What about Michael's just said and instead
what it was injected myself with v from the boys
and now I'm a superhero. At the same time, walked
across the street. I took on Homelander. Oh too soon,
I took on Homelander, and you see what happens. Uh
too soon for Jack Quayne's girlfriend. My fault. No, it
(12:21):
walks with his lady away from the street. It's true.
That is true. I'm one of the first rules you learn.
Open a door for a lady. You hold the door
for a lady. But she was walking. She doesn't. They
couldn't kill her character if he was in the street.
He's the star, so they had to put her in
the street. Yeah, but now he looks like a jerk
on message boards talk about what I know. I think
(12:42):
she was leaving. No, she was leaving to go somewhere,
so she was across the street. You had to give
her a kiss. Goby didn't know a train was gonna
come riding through, going Hey, sorry, dude, you gotta go.
Anthony Thomas a train in the world. I'm not doing that. Yeah,
you're not, just because you're A train's gonna show up
at that moment and that time. Okay, it did it
did at that one time. For that one he needs
(13:03):
one time. That's true. Okay, or one vegetable. There's one
guy from Alan Michaels. What would happen if how Michael
started eating vegetables now running around like he lives forever.
I'm glad he isn't eating vegetables.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
This guy, he's now running around like the zombies in
World War Z.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Al Michaels is now starting to get shortstopped for the
Mets instead of broadcasting the games he's playing. Or possibly
what if vegetables are his kryptonite? Oh? Like he eats
him and suddenly like like he has an allergy to him,
and like his neck starts to swell and his flesh
gets really big and his eyes bug out and pop
out of his head.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
He just described total recall. Sure, oh yeah, well yeah
if his voice got good? Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, okay,
all right, all right, I see where you are at
that it really took a weird turn.
Speaker 8 (13:44):
I will say one thing, Jay, I do agree with him.
Carrots do look weird?
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Are doing their orange? They're orange. It's tough to eat
orange foods, Like Burrell says, brown food tastes good. Orange foods.
Eh yeah, kind of tough orange foods. How many times
are you gonna grab an orange first. You know.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
I do enjoy good orange. Do you know where I
went to school? I kind of have to grab I
went to you know I went to school I got,
I have no choice.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Did you go to Orange? I went to Syracuse Orange.
Did you go to Orange County Orange School?
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Did you go to school?
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Mascot is an orange? Did you go to Green school?
Did you go to a school no kidding an orange?
Did you go to mauv school? Did you go to Bluesoo?
Did you go to violets? You guys are cannibals. You
ate your own blues clues. I said Blue school or
Green school, so they would eat your own mascot. I
went to Orange. No, no, Auto, No, Auto is not
an orange that you eat. City is an orange Outto's
(14:36):
got a hat and everything else. He looks really fierce.
Auto does not set, does not look take your ass.
You know why because Auto eats vegetables. He'd kick both
of your asses. Just watch Auto's not mister met was
gonna sit back and flip you off. No Auto, serious man,
He'll do some things. We gotta bring up both stuff
to Twitter out of fresco, mic and swollen dumb the
(14:59):
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Uh
so there you go. No vegetables for Al Michael, No vegetables.
He's my hero. Guys, Mike erroneous? Now aren't you how
much glador? Are you that you had pizza tonight? We
ate it and it was really good. I don't know
if it's the pizza of the statement that's no Life.
Coming up next, Jay Glazer stops by all the latest
(15:20):
from the NFL, Justin Fields, the Commander's Sam Howell, what
went wrong with the Giants? And more. Keep it right here,
Jason and Mike, This is Fox.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon, Vegetables the Other side of the Glass.
Just finished watching Hereditary? Oh good? Jason Smith, Mike Harmon
Livethtirack dot Com Studios getting said to join us on
the hot line NFL on Fox Inside or Extraordinary Jay Glazer.
(16:05):
So much to get to, but we're gonna kick off
with what we saw tonight. Justin Fields four touchdowns, three
of them to DJ Moore. Dj Moore has an unbelievable night,
the only wide receiver to catch a pass for the
Bears to night. But hey, whatever works, the Bears works.
They went it by the final of forty to twenty. Jay,
what's happening, buddy.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Man, I've watched it the whole time.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
I realized that that pat Yeah. Well, and for the Bears,
it's yeah, for the Bears, that's all right.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Yeah, he had a couple of shots to Mooney early,
but then he went away from him.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
But then the other receiver too, in Chase Claypool, he's
not there, and now look at the offense is running.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Well, he really wasn't there when he was on the field,
was he?
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Ja?
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Was all Chase Claypool's fault. Ja. That's that's where all
the blame's gonna go here.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Chaka who will laugh him?
Speaker 7 (16:58):
You know?
Speaker 1 (16:59):
The thing is with Justin Fields is the can you
draw a line of Hey, since he said I get
coached too much and I need to go out and
just play, he's been a different quarterback. Can you compare, Hey,
what happened in the media there that maybe the Bears
have done stuff behind the scenes, and suddenly Justin Fields
is back on track or was a year ago.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
I don't know if he's been a different Tonight was
very different. But here's the thing. I think last year
you saw, Okay, this guy has has you know, he's
gray on the ground. They still have to evaluate him.
The current regime did not draft Justin Fields, so they
have to evaluate him. So then they got to put
him in a position to see if he's a passer, right,
they have to evaluate him. Obviously he's not that pure passer.
(17:41):
So I think at that point they say, okay, now
we know we can't what he can't do. Let's kind
of go back to more of a hybrid what we
know we can do, and let him use his threat
with his legs. And you saw a lot more design
plays for him. You've seen that, you know, since he
said that, more design plays, more design plays not just
for him to be a ball carrier and run with it,
but also to get out of pocket and kind of
(18:02):
make people just afraid if you give them the fear
that you're going to run. That opened up some more
options downfield. Certainly, I still think, look, this is one game.
It is great to build off of I think, look
if they if he can build off this and really
you know, not just throw the DJ Moore, but get
(18:22):
more receivers in too, and become a passing threat. Also,
that opens up so much to the Bears draft wise.
Right now you're looking at saying, Okay, they're stilled in
the quarterback and you know, maybe Marvin Harrison with that
second picture, that's what happens. It shakes out they have
one and two. But if they realize, okay, this is
our quarterback in the future, that completely changed everything.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
Yeah, Jay DJ Moore already with more receiving yards this
year than any Bears wide receiver last year. It were
in Week five. Obviously, monster game today, but swirling around,
you know a lot of rumor conjecture, speculations that the
Bears might have jumped off the eber flues mandwagon, which
would have gone completely opposite to everything the history of
(19:04):
the organization. You know, from the people you talk to,
is it that you point in the year for them?
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Before this game, I didn't think it was gonna happen,
only because look, they don't know their defensive coordinator right,
and then so Ebra flues to a defensive coordinator. Also,
so if you get rid of him, you're missing your
defense coordinator and your head coach. What do you do?
Who do you put in? It just didn't seem like
is gonna make a lot of sense to shack it
up and make that move. You know what, here's why
you get rid of a coach during the season. If
(19:32):
the coach is a distraction. If everybody quits on you
and the coach is a distraction, ibra flus is not
a distraction at all. So it doesn't make sense. A
lot of times too, when you get rid of a
guy in the middle of the season, it does get
the team a little bit juice, and sometimes it's false juice,
and a lot of times the owner is going, oh man,
this is that was supposed to be. And then a
pier and that interim coach, and more than not, the
(19:54):
interim coach does not work out.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
Jay really weird night for the Bears. Obviously, you know
they play this game him on the day they lose
one of their great legends, Dick Buckets, passing away at
the age of eighty. I told the story early in
the show. I remember sharing an elevator with him at
Fox once and I got in the elevator and I'm like, oh,
I'm going to get to meet Dick Buckets. And he
looked up from a piece of paper he was looking at,
and he looked at me, and I said to myself,
(20:17):
I am not going to meet Dick Buckets right now.
I'm going to stand on the side of the elevator
and we're going to take the elevator silently.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Yeah, there's not too many people who are so iconic
that you're like, oh my god, I'm beyond starstruck. And
he's one of those guys who, you know, even legends
in the NFL gets starstruck by him, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Did you get to meet him at all any any
at Fox and you were there the last few years
at all, since he's you know, something Fox.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
But just a you know, Super Boulder or Hall of Fame,
different things. I've come across him and I interviewed him
one time, and I think it was about Lawrence Taylor,
but I can't remember. Back when I was covering the Giants,
and honestly, he was whatever I was calling about. He
was so incredibly and gracious and grateful and just my
(21:03):
you know, my interaction with him, he was great, But
you're right when you call a guy like that, especially
me a little beat reporters for the Giant. Nobody knows.
There's no Internet back then, so basically, you know, people
knew me him in New York and outside it for
him to take my call, I was just, man, I
was like, oh my god, I can't believe this happened.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
That next level thing. Maybe in the South Side Chicago.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
And it's a weird kind of day with the huge
win and the passing of Dick budget.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
But he passed away in Malibu. I live in maliblad
no idea here lived here.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
Well, you know all those those Hollywood moments that he had.
You can go back and watch some hang Time or
Johnny Dangerously to see some of his great comedic timing
along the way. Hey, a guy that's trying to look
for some levity, big divisional matchup this week, Mike Tomlin
uh kind of intimating that they they've played a bit
soft through the first quarter of the season. What changes
(21:52):
this week against Baltimore?
Speaker 3 (21:55):
You know, I look, everybody's expected him to the more
they called for him to fire as offensive coordinator, the
more I said to myself, he's not gonna fire the
offensive coordinator. I though him let people tell him what
to do. The more you say, he's like, oh, just
just stick to my guns. But he also every time
you think that team is just odd, they're done, they
got to do this that he has a way of
bouncing them back right. It's one of the guy who's
(22:16):
never had a losing season. It's ridiculous that he's never
had a losing season.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Jay Glazer, NFL on Fox Insider with Us The Jason
Spencer with Mike Carmen Live from the tyreg dot com studios.
Are you mentioned the Giants a couple of minutes ago,
and I don't think there's any team happier to turn
the page to another week in the NFL than the Giants.
You have Daniel Jones and the bad game they all
played on Monday. Now, Evan Neil is having a backtrack
when he criticized the.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Fans the worst thing you could do in New York?
Speaker 1 (22:42):
What that is? Yeah, that you're always gonna lose that. Jay, No,
you can't go.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Out to eat j There was a player back in
the day I was interviewing the Giant locker room and
he started going off about the Giants fans, and I
turned my recorder off and I said, there listening to
your New Year. If you want to go with this
real problem, i'll print it. I got you, But I
want you to take a deep breath when you start
(23:07):
a fight with these New Yorkers. I just want to
take a deep breath. If this is your thoughts, I'm
good with it. But I want to make sure these
are your thoughts, and because if you are, it's just
a different road. And he sat there, took a deep breath.
He looked at me and he goes, yeah, I don't
want to do that. Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
He saved Phil simms career right there.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Jay. I hope you forever man, because I just printed
well with it. But I didn't want to catch someone.
I knew he was in a moment of emotion, and
I want to catch someone in emotion, you know. I
want this is what your thoughts are. And that's by
the way, for other you know, even like young reporters
out there. Whenever somebody said something controversial to me when
I was a newspaper reporter, I would read it back
(23:51):
to him and say, okay, so you're saying this, this
and this. I just want to make sure that we're
clear because tomorrow I don't want you saying you're misquoted.
This is what your intentive. And you know, there's been
a lot of times I don't ever recall somebody saying
to me besides this, yeah, you know what, let me
change this one time one time because somebody is saying
something you would have got arrested for. But other than that,
(24:16):
but I want to make sure then when we have
something controversial, hey, this is what you said, just make
sure about this. And every time, for the most part,
like I said, ninety percent of the times, players have said, Okay,
I'm good with it. I'll deal with it all you
can tell you.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
So what did Peyton say about Eli?
Speaker 3 (24:31):
They did so.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
But where do the Giants go now? Jay? I mean, look,
it seems like it's such disarray right now with everything.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
That that does, which is odd because the coaching staff
over there in front of like, it's just it's kind
of not who they are. So they've got to pull
it together somehow, some way. But that's the thing. Also,
you know, when you're in New York, it's an emotional place,
as you know, and what people don't realize about in
New York Is you're not just comparing yourself to the
Jets and the Giants over there. You get compared to
(25:01):
the Yankees and not the Yankees of this year, the
Yankees of their great years, and it's it's it's the Knicks,
and it's the Rangers. They all get compared. So it's
a different city of what your expectations are because they
had so many great years for years and years and
decades and decades with the Yankees, So it tends to
get a lot more emotional.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
Jay Jonathan Taylor returns to the goals. He says, quote,
I'm here right now. What does that mean? Have they
mended fences and he's just getting right physically? Is he
a colt or is he eventually in another uniform?
Speaker 3 (25:32):
He's a cult right now, Let's see what happens so much,
you know, and there weren't a lot of there weren't
a lot of you know, look, if they had a
good offer, that would have taken it. But they didn't
have a good enough offer. And you know, at the
same time, too, look they do they were hoping that
this was going to work itself out and things would
calm down, and Jonathan Taylor would come back because they
(25:53):
know they got something to build off of that is
deemed special, Anthony Richardson, but they're hoping that. Okay, if
we can get Jonathan Tyler backs pre injury Jonathan Taylor
and put him with Anthony Richardson with a offensive coach
like Snich, and we got something here that can be
more special than we sought a lot sooner than we thought.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Well, especially with the Jaguars not exactly running away and
hiding the Titans week to week. We don't know what
we're getting and Houston's been plucky, but the division's potentially
there for the taking.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Hey, Domigo, Ryan's doing an incredible job.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Unbelievable and he's got no offensive lineman and he's still
getting it done.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Nobody saw that coming. Nobody saw that coming.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Hey, you said the word special, Jay. You know every
week we talk about the Unbreakable podcast, you have special
guests all the time, but extra special guests. This week
you had Mercedes Lewis on because he meant a lot
to you. At the very beginning of this talk a
little bit about that.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Well, by the way, Mercedes Lewis is getting a win
right now with the Bears, and hey, by the way
he had offers to go elsewhere, and I was like,
why did you go there to the Bears. I'll get
the other thing in a second. He's like, because I'm
in my last years, I wanted to go some where
with people that I love and I know, and Luke
gets you, I know from Green Bay and he means
a lot to me, So you know, yeah, I want
(27:07):
to be partners building something special over there with the Bears.
But it was also mental lot to me to be
with people my last year that I care about and
care about me. And that was a really really honest moment,
right from an NFL veteran. Usually, right, guys are chasing money.
It's all about the ring and we don't think about
the other part. Hey, my last year is I want
to be around people I don't care about me. I've
(27:29):
never heard a player say that ever, and I've had
bunch of calls about it. Actually it started airing yesterday
about that and some of the other things he said.
But when I first started doing my mental health checkups
and I try to this is well before my book
came out, and I was like, you know what, the
Internet is terrible. It's caused me all these issues, well,
it's a lot of the issues. I'm gonna try to
(27:51):
use the Internet to be raw and vulnerable and not
just have highlights and knock everybody out there to look at,
you know, our ourselves to everybody else has stiltered fraction
of a secondary skills hate. So I was clearing on it.
I'm like, listen, is the first time I'm coming out
at depression and anxiety and bipolar and ADHD, which I'm
(28:13):
sure you guys stand that one everybody figured out already.
But I said, I want to be raw and real
and vulnerable. And for a lot of time, for a
long time, people looked at me like eight Glazier's crazy
and that was a badge of honor in football and fighting,
but no one knew how much pain I was really in.
And that was once I did that, and I said,
you know, I want to really be wrong with people here,
(28:35):
real and show people the real stuff out here, so
you could also start following along and you know, be
vulnerable with each other. And I'm going to start showing
all you how to talk to each other and be
vulnerable and give you the words so you could have
these conversations with others and Mercedes, who I started training
and mixed martial arts fifteen years ago. Whatever was so
(28:57):
he's known me forever. He was the first player to
reach out. And he was attacked to the quote I
just got this from I didn't use it in the post,
and he's like, man, I always knew you were you
know you're enough, but I just didn't know you were
in pain. I'm sorry and I'm there for you forever.
And I was like, man, and I had to talked
to him like a prob a year, year and a
half something like that would just you know, people's kind
(29:17):
of come and go sometimes and because you're all, you're
also busy. But he was the first guy to reach
out and say that and constantly checks up on me,
and I constantly check up on him. And that's where,
you know, it's great to be able to open up
like that and for I, so I can use this
platform in the Unbreakable podcast to give it words so
we could start opening up to each other to realize,
(29:39):
look how much closer this brings us together. Like Mara
and I hadn't talked to it a year and a half,
for two years, and suddenly we're back talking all the time.
Making sure we're good. So for everybody out there, if
you think, hey, I got to shoe this, I want
to open up to someone, but they're going to turn
their back on me if I do. Now what happens
the other way. Look at this story with me and
Mercedes Lewis and gets you closer.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
To other It is the Unbreakable podcast. You can get it.
You can get off of Jay's link on his Twitter
page at Jay Glazer Unbreakable a mental health podcast. This
week gets more series where podcast phenomenal stuff. Jay is
always keep fighting the good fight. My friend, thanks so much.
We'll talk to you next week. But good away, brother,
take care. Always a great visit with Jay Glazer, man,
(30:22):
it is something we get stuff like that, We get insight.
It is everything you want.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
A lot of laughs, a lot of self deprecation. We
are his knuckleheads of record.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports, because there was one game tonight, so
Steve de Sager had a lot to keep tracking one
with what's track? A Yeah, there was one I heard
the Bears played. There is one game.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
There is one game listening to the show, and that
is my understanding this Chicago plan, Boy did they play.
This is an zero to fourteen coming in and yet
at Washington tonight, the Bears scored on all five possessions
in the first half, led twenty seven to three at
the break, forty to twenty Bears the final and the
defense sacked Washington quarterback Sam Howell five times. By late
(31:04):
first half, Washington's offense had three first downs. They were
down seventeen to nothing early second quarter, eventually a twenty
point defeat by the whole team, and Justin Fields had
four touchdown passes for the winners. DJ Moore, the Star eight,
catches two hundred and thirty yards three touchdowns on the
day that Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Buckis passed away
(31:25):
at the age of eighty. Bears legend Pro Bowlers first
eight seasons, all with Chicago. He was born in Chicago
and played for the University of Illinois.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
Rams.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
Wide receiver Cooper Cup practice fully today after his hamstring injury.
Bill's linebacker Von Miller is traveling to London with his
team so he could debut Sunday morning against Jacksonville after
the torn acl Last year, Lions wide receiver I'm and
Ross Saint Brown did not practice again due to his
abdominal injury. Bengals wide receiver T Higgins misspractice again rib injury.
(31:54):
Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is still in the final stages
of concussion protocol, but he did practice today. The Raiders
host the Packers on Monday. Vegas wide receiver DeVante Adams
did not practice due to his shoulder injury. Packers wide
receiver Christian Watson returned to limited practice. New TarHeels wide
receiver Tz Walker is now eligible to play this year.
(32:14):
Friday night on FS one, it'll be Nebraska at Illinois.
Mets general manager Billy Eppler resigned. The best of five
division series all start this Saturday. FS one will have
Texas at Baltimore than Minnesota at Houston on both Saturday
and Sunday. NBA MVP Joel Embiid of Philadelphia will play
for the US at next summer's Paris Olympics, not for France.
(32:38):
He is now a US citizen. In the gold medal
final at the last Olympics, the US beat France eighty
seven eighty two. Kevin Durant had twenty nine points in
that game. We don't know the American roster till the spring.
We assume it will include Durant and Steph Curry and
maybe Jason Tatum who had nineteen off the bench in
winning the gold last time. Could have Devin Booker and others.
But we know Joel Embiid has committed. Minnesota wanted preseason
(33:00):
game today in Abu Dhabi beating Dallas what eleven to
ninety nine. Karl Anthony Towns twenty points in seventeen minutes.
Luka Donsich in seventeen minutes, had twenty five points in
the loss, but the MAVs Kyrie Irving was one of
six shooting from the floor. They'll play each other again
on Saturday overseas. Lebron James will not play in the
Lakers exhibition opener on Saturday night against Golden State. The
(33:22):
NBA regular season starts October twenty fourth with two games.
Most teams will open October twenty fifth.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Back to you, thanks you a bunch, Steve on now,
but just real quick, you know the difference between Dubai
and Abu Dhabi, right, give it to me. In Dubai
they don't like the flintstones, but people in Abu Dhabi
do you know a difference? You got another walked right
an Yeah, he just bad job by you makes me
want to go et mentioned that's one of my favorite jokes.
(33:48):
Oh vegetable. Coming up next, we have to play of
the Night and a big bold prediction out of the NFL.
Keep it right here, We're getting ready for a big
weekend of NFL action. This is Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 8 (34:08):
Hey, this is Tom Berducci from Fox Sports, MLB Network
and Sports Illustrated, and.
Speaker 7 (34:14):
I'm Joe Madden, and we're going to be around to
talk a little bit about managerial decisions.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
And what may have occurred to the dugout maybe in
the nineteen eighties. It's the Book of Joe Podcast. I
can't wait for this, Joe.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
We're going to dive into what goes on in the
dugout and behind the scenes in Major League Baseball, cars,
wind whatever else we want to talk about. Yeah, well,
there are no boundaries, right.
Speaker 4 (34:32):
Listen to the Book of Joe podcast on the iHeartRadio app,
on Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 6 (34:45):
Explain it to me.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
Got the player that come in your way in a
couple of minutes. But you know there's a dark side
to Justin fields and has four touchdowns tonight. The dark side.
There's a dark side. There's a very big deal. And
he knows to for the league lead with eleven touchdowns. Well,
that's part of the dark side. It's part of the
dark side.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Uh, because it's great in fantasy. I thought he'd have
a big day. I did not get those fours up.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Like I'll tell you, manco Uh, this is this is
the dark side. Is that I was fully ready that
at the deadline the Jets or maybe another team would
have their choice of quarterbacks from teams who are falling
out of contention, because hey, there's no way forward we
want to move on. Those three quarterbacks now aren't going
(35:34):
to be available. Because the Vikings have won a game
and Kirk Cousins is playing well. Tis if they win Sunday,
if they beat the Chiefs, Kirk Cousins ain't going anywhere.
The Titans are tied for first, they're also tied for last.
They don't have another quarterback, but but they're staying afloat.
(35:56):
And now Justin Fields was the third guy because he
he sticks. We got to get rid of them. You
got now two weeks in a row with four touchdowns, seriously,
and this schedule is pretty nice. Yes, it's it's not. Look,
it's not like they're gonna overtake the Lions, but they're
gonna get back in it. And you're talking about a
team that's got to have a bad enough record by
the week or two before the trade deadline, and that's
(36:18):
not gonna happen for these teams, right, So these these
guys who are gonna be eminently available a couple of
weeks ago now are most likely not gonna be maybe
the guy that's most likely as cousins out of the three,
because look, with Fields being on fire and the Bears are, hey,
we're gonna stick with him. And with the the way
the AFC South is, no one's running away with it.
The Titans will stick with Tenhill as long as they're
(36:40):
doing okay because they don't like either of their guys.
Back up Curtains is the only one, but he's playing
great and they just won last week and just you
just need a couple of wins. And I feel like, oh,
now they're heating up a little bit, and I really
like them against Kansas City to moment the Kansas City game,
and then they play the Bears, it's gonna be nobody availed.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
I know nobody's gonna be. Yeah, you're justin Field's pipe
dream done. I was gonna get everybody, and now nobody's
can get nothing. Now you get RG three or Cam
Newton to get Daniel Jones, you're not getting him either.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
No, those are the only three guys the Jets could
have gotten, or another team, not just the Jets, but
another team looking for a quarterback could have gotten. Because
these are the guys that you can get for this year.
You can walk away from them at the end of
the year. They're not expensive. Well those two are. Fields
still has some rookie, right, you're not spending him, right,
but you're not spending a lot of money on him.
(37:31):
You can if you wanted to, you can get out
or deal him. You can do. It's not like we
went out like if you got out get Daniel Jones, Hey,
guess what you're on the hook for all that money
next year?
Speaker 4 (37:38):
Well, you'd be working to uh get the giants to
cover most of that if you get ready.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Uh time now for the play that night brought to
you by Progressive Insurance. Just think about that. It was
there's a big dark side man. Yeah, well dark side
for you.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
In Chicago, they're celebrating, they were, they were dancing in
the locker room and that.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Music blaring celebrate Dick Budkus. Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable.

ATV and more all your protection in one plays Bundle

four touchdowns. He could be the play of the night.
DJ Moore caught three touchdowns, should have been four. I
(38:19):
really want to see that play. Should have gotten those
four zut Yeah, could be Dj Moore. But instead, when
you give a take so unbelievably hot, people on the
show cannot believe it, you get to be the play
of the night.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
Is it true that you have never knowingly eaten a
vegetable in your life?
Speaker 2 (38:36):
That is true?
Speaker 1 (38:37):
That is true.
Speaker 7 (38:38):
I was warned when my parents were eighteen. My mother
hadn't even read Doctor Spock at.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
That there it is al Michaels proxy again too, I
have never eaten a vegetable. Yeah, no eating saying you know,
early on they didn't have you know, the rules of
the Road off the Doctor Spock book. That was the thing, folks.
Speaker 1 (38:59):
But when he says when he said and not that spuck.
Wait when he says knowingly eating and make it feel
like unless my wife or somebody has like slipped something
in where I didn't notice. Oh what is this? It's pasta?
Oh it spaghetti squash.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
I mean, it's not like in the wall when we
went home at night, you know, and look at it.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
Eat your peas it's in the wall.
Speaker 4 (39:23):
No, no, no, the scene where that he goes home
and the wife's like lording over him because he tries
to push the peas to the.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
Side, like no, no, no, no, you're gonna eat your piece.
I don't think al Michael's has that situation. No do
I think al Michaels can say do you believe in miracles?
I'm not eating these, not eating know what that? Do
you believe in miracles?
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Is worth?
Speaker 1 (39:42):
Did you eat a vegetable? Can you say that? Like
if you saw me eat a vegetable in a restaurant.
Could I walk up to him and say, do you
believe in miracles? And he would have to say yes
because he ate a vegetable. Not gonna do it. Just think,
just think I can run that line with him. Eat
this vegetable so I can run your line. He might
harpoon you with his knife. Exit out out a Fresco
Exit swollen dome. The Jason Smith Show with my best
(40:05):
friend Mike Harmon. Have you eaten a vegetable knowingly the
last couple of days? Probably not good man? Coming up
next to my buddy Ben Mallar. This is Fox
