(00:51):
we got a big weekend in the NFL coming up.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Of course. Hey we're past the quarter pole.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Now we're seeing who can throw for more touchdowns and
justin fields. Suddenly a story we didn't think we'd have
two weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
You know, the quarter pole is actually the final quarter
of a race.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
The first quarter pole. This is the first quarter pole.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
But that's not it's not a thing sure.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
It is the first quarter pole, first quarter, first quart.
It's the first quarter of the NFL season, first quarter,
quarter pole. Every quarter, every quarter is a quarter pole
in your world.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Now, I'm telling you, where did you read that? Where
did you read that?
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Do you go to God, you go to.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Things at are wrong dot Com and read that, because
that's probably where it is.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
It's it's a horse racing term.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
It's I don't I think it's just a quarter pole.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
It is just a thing, a poll to signal that
the finish line is one quarter of a mile away.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
That says quarter pole, quarter pole. I think you're lying.
I don't believe you. I don't believe you. You don't
have to No, I don't believe you.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
I don't believe T Shirt and I were having this
conversation before.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
You used to be wrong.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
It's all I know you're lying because you're not when
no one has ever had a sports conversation with Ty Shirt,
So now I know you're.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Well, that's actually not true, Jason.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Listen the conversation we had last night about al Michaels
not eating vegetables.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
That was the now Michaels not eating vegetables.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
That really became a thing today too, was I really
took off everybody trying to justify their diets or lack thereof,
to their wives and significant others, wives, girlfriend's kids, Dad,
you don't eat vegetables. Look at he's seventy eight, still going, and.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Look at him calling games he doesn't want to wear.
Look at this guy at seventy eight years old, he's
already so biss.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Making a million of games. He shut up, he.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Wants to stop working. Look how excited he is.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
But all right, so quarter pole, well, well whatever will
agree to disagree on that quarter pole?
Speaker 4 (02:47):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (02:48):
As we get ready for this week, and we got
Jason Cole coming up in a few minutes. Secondok, some
of the big games, we'll talk Dallas, San Francisco, which
forty nine ers are going to route the Cowboys. The
two biggest surprises for me right now at this point
in the NFL season.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
And one of.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
These is really tough because I gotta give credit to
somebody that I don't think I've given credit to in
a long time. And we went back and forth on
Twitter a couple of years ago. One guy, I'm actually
I'm absolutely stunned we're actually talking about him. But the
first guy that I have to give credit to because
he has been He's not just been acceptable, he's been good.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
And there's a.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Difference, a right, there's a different between Hey, this guy's
been acceptable. No, no, no, this guy's actually been good.
When you thought there's no way he can be good,
there's no way he can step into the situation and
be good. The team is on its way down, the
weapons are not what they thought they had. He is
not somebody that has a running game behind him. But
you know what, Baker Mayfield has been one of the
(03:52):
biggest surprise, one of the two biggest surprises in the
NFL this season because he has been good. He's been accurate.
And that's a numbumber one thing. And here's Tampa in
a bad division. They're three and one at the top,
and you think, okay, their defense is pretty good and
maybe they can make a run here and they can
win this division. But Mayfield has been accurate. That's the
number one thing, right, number one thing for him has
(04:12):
been able to spread the ball around and hit his receivers.
But more importantly, and sometimes this doesn't get looked at
as being as important as it is, is that he
is out of the spotlight, and that's a huge thing
for Baker Mayfield. Since he came into the league number
one draft pick, he has been someone who says, I'm
(04:35):
gonna come in as a number one draft pick, and yeah,
I got swagger. A lot of guys come in as
a number one picking quarterbacks. On the understand, Okay, I
can't really come in here and just say I'm going
to take over the league because I have a lot
to learn and I don't want to make myself a target.
And that's generally not how it's done. It's not how
you win friends in the locker room. It's not how
you win friends that want to play behind you. But
he has come in and was never shy right away
with voicing his concern about things getting involved in other
(04:57):
players contract situations.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
He didn't play very well.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
He had a couple of points where you thought maybe
he would turn it around, but he did not, and
he wound up getting let go by the Browns before
he even finished his contract. As a number one overall pick,
he goes to Carolina and he tries to jump in
and learn the playbook way too early. They go to
him as a savior and he's terrible and here he
is on the Tampa Bay Bucks now trying to hold
off Kyle Trask in the preseason. And look at what
(05:23):
he's done, because now we don't care about Baker Mayfield. Right.
We talked about Baker Mayfield a lot. He was in
the spotlight, and he was a really big deal. He
stirred the drink for a long time. He helped make
the Browns relevant because of what he did, so from
that was a positive. But for him, the spotlight was
not his friend. Being in the spotlight was not as
much as he thought. I can handle this and I
(05:43):
can go to war with sports talk radio hosts and
TV out there. But now he's out of the spotlight
and in Tampa, it's like, okay, well you're in Tampa.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
You're not one of the contenders. The shine is off you.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
As a guy, that is someone that we talked about
a lot and stirred the drink and paid a lot
of attention to. And likely he has learned a little
bit about what he can and can't say. He has
been very quiet the last year plus. He has realized
I need to play football if I want to keep
my career going. And so far, so good. Seven touchdowns
in the first four weeks. He threw three against the Saints.
(06:16):
Last week won a game that I didn't think he
could win because the SAME's defense is going to be
too tough, and he wound up having his best game
of the season so far, completed almost eighty percent of
his passes.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Being out of the.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Spotlight is the best thing for Baker Mayfield. If I'm
Mayfield and people want to call me for interviews and hey, no, no, no, no, no,
just let me go play. Just let me go play
with the bucks, because this is what's working. Yes, he's accurate,
but being outside the spotlight, that's the best thing for him.
And here's why he's finally playing. He's put his best
four weeks of football together and in almost two years. Mike,
(06:48):
with what he's doing right now, Harmon's speechless. Harman's absolutely
speechless for Baker.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
I did you know? You absolutely just shocked me.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Look at you? Are you okay? Anybody?
Speaker 4 (07:01):
I'm good. I was still, you know, writing a dissertation
to disprove your whole quarter pole nonsense. But the Baker Mayfield,
he did a little bit of mettle to spread out
by drink.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
I took a drink that was maybe of a dissertation
to prove out your quarter pole.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
Well, I'm smart and funny. Look, the fact of the
matter is you got Mayfield in a good spot here
getting a little chesty, and he should right because he
was thrown away. The fact that he was in Cleveland
and he was chesty didn't go over well, you had
folks even as he entered the draft not it seemed
like there was a particular venom against him even from
(07:38):
the jump because he was brash in his collegiate days.
Right that he you know, the flag and everything else.
There was a certain percentage of folks got quarterbacks don't
do that, Real quarterbacks don't do that. So it became
the poison pen ready to go as soon as things
turned badly, which, as we know, if you're a member
of the Brown sorry ty shirt, eventually that's gonna happen.
(08:01):
It's just gonna happen. So, you know, he did a
bit with McVie and the big quote that came out
of it was, well, they told me to go get surgery,
do the rehab. I'm ready for the next And then
they went a different direction. Okay, cool, and now he's
down in Tampa and you're in a division that, let's
face it, we if you grab the board of everybody
(08:22):
that does the prognostication and the selections division by division,
you could really carve up the four teams that that
division and probably get into what a twenty five twenty
five thirty twenty split or something like that because there
(08:42):
was no consensus. There's no consensus, right Atlanta, they run
the ball and they're fast on defense. Well, you didn't
realize that as of now, Desmond Ridder is allergic to
the forward pass. Okay, done, Carolina disaster and the Saints,
Sorry I paid you. Like the defense? Kamara missed the
first three games. You really convinced you're winning a lot
(09:05):
with Derek Carr. I'm just calling it what it is.
So yeah, Tampa Bay is there and with just sound
decision making. You do have two great receivers when they're
healthy in Evans and Godwin. The run game hasn't been
nearly what you would hope for with Rashad White, but
Mayfield's been decisive, quick with the football and he's limited mistakes.
(09:27):
Defense flying around a little bit. Yeah, they're they're potentially
a squad to do some damage here.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Now the other guy who's a big surprise I give.
I'll also give even more credit to him because he's
someone who I never thought at any point he was
gonna wind up being a big player in the NFL,
and he's not getting enough credit for playing well. And
that's Joshua Dobbs, who became Joshua dobb but no longer
josh Dobbs now is Joshua Dobbs.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
That's okay, because.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
Well it's like, you know, a Chang became a Chan.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Yeah a Chan. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Wait listen, hey, I ran for two hundred yards in
my first game. I'm gonna say my name's gonna be
whatever the hell I want it to be. Yes, Arizona
is still a bad football team, but they upset the Cowboys.
Dobbs had a pretty good week, even in defeat against
the Niners offense that really doesn't give anything up last week.
They are fighting hard. And he has been acceptable like
(10:21):
he hasn't been.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
He hasn't been.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
I can't say he's been Baker Mayfield, but he has
been acceptable.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Good.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
Look, he's thrown for four touchdowns. He's getting the team
up and down the field. He's not been great. A
big difference maker. But he has been good enough and
his play is getting better each week. And you know,
watching him from the first week against the Commanders when
you go, oh man, this is going to be an
ugly season. Look he has a better week against the Giants,
has a great first half, they can't get it done.
(10:46):
But the last couple of weeks really good against Dallas,
and threw two touchdowns against the Niners. How many quarterbacks
a they're gonna throw two touchdowns against the Niners this year?
Speaker 3 (10:54):
How many? Two? Three? And Joshua Dobbs are gonna be
one of them.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
The thing that impresses me the most about him that
he has not turned the football over and it's it's
and watching him, and you'd think for a guy that
hasn't played a lot of football, that's the one thing
that would hold you back because Dobbs is gonna come
in and go, Okay, I don't want to make a mistake, right,
but still I got to be able to push the
ball down the field, not throwing a pick so far
that's a big deal. I almost I almost look at
(11:20):
him kind of like a Geno Smith light, you know,
getting to see a lot of him, you and I
get to see a lot of the Cardinals because they
always play in our window here the late games here
and you know, uh on the West coast. And he
has been pretty good as far as Oh, maybe they
can get by with him this year, and if he
grows as a quarterback this year, hey maybe they got
(11:40):
their guy for a couple of years and they can
flip Kyler Murray and turn him into something. At the
very least, Joshua Dobbs can maybe keep them afloat. If
they want a tank they keep. They can do a
lot of different things, but Dobbs is someone who has
really surprised me that they basically threw him out there
because you thought, hey, they're gonna tank, right. No one's
given josh Dobbs the opportunity. Joshua adopts the opportunity to start.
(12:01):
And it was even a fun little bit he was having.
I went to the Cardinals store and they didn't even
have my jersey. I can't even buy it. But overall, yeah,
he kind of looks like a geno smith Light and
every game has been better for him, and I am
really impressed what he's been for. I never in a
million years thought he would have the Cardinals team where hey,
they're scoring a lot of points and they already have
one big upset win over the season.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
I'm gonna I'm gonna give you two others. Really fast
rookie CJ. Stroud over in the Planet Houston. Competitive, playing
with a lot of heart is the squad right now.
And that's without an offensive line that has featured really
any of their starters through four weeks of the season. Again,
(12:44):
no turnovers, taking care of the football, decisive, some big
numbers with Nicocollins and your guy Tank, don't call him
Nathaniel Dell getting it done. Just wait till Dalton Schultz
actually becomes a regular part of the offense and Damian
Pierce does more than fall forward behind the reconstituted offensive
line here in a week or two. And the other
(13:05):
the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers and I we talked
with Jay Glazer about this a little yesterday. Jason is, yeah,
they might write the ship, but through four weeks, I haven't.
I haven't seen any heart from this squad in terms
of toughness, physicality and whatever. And Tomlin called it out
earlier in the week. And maybe they rebound in the
thirty fourth meeting between Harbaugh and Tomlin. Ponder that for
(13:27):
a moment, with all the turnover we have in the
rest of the NFL at the head coach position, but
you're you're looking at a squad that at this point
doesn't look anything like the Moniker, the nickname that they're
playing in the history of that organization. I say, organization,
organize that.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
Look, I tell you what. Suddenly we're talking.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
We're in Canada, my coach in our organization organiza man
Canny Pickett, Canny Pickett. Eventually the excuses are gonna stop,
and you're gonna realize, Oh man, hey, Roethlisberg, you want
to come.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Back, and little bit got anything left? Yeah? Can you
be the offensive coordinator and the quarterback? Can you do that?
Because you know he would say yes to both those things.
Why you both? I can call the plays and yeah,
I get one hundred percent. Yeah, I'm ready to go. Ready.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Loyalty to Matt Canada's pretty funny. Yeah, And we talked
a little bit about the fight he ed with CBS yesterday.
But the fact that you're not able to run the
football at all, and defensively, you're toothless at both ends.
Right like last last week was a great example, going
up against the aforementioned Houston Texans. Down so many offensive linemen.
(14:31):
All right, you can finally get after the rook and
maybe for some mistakes they got nothing. They got nothing,
and defensively in the back seven they were beaten, beaten
down all day long. Nico Collins ran free and it
became lopsided and one of those just throw the damn
Towell kind of games, way too fast.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Joining us now in the hotline, a man excited to
talk about all these stories and more or maybe none
of them, because you know how it goes when we
welcome in Jason Cole, longtime NFL Insider Hall of Very
Good voter. He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
That is, at Jason Cole sixty two. Check him out
thirty third Team as well. Jake Cole, What's happening, buddy, how.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
Are you It's Hall of fame, hall of fame.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Same when you only put great players in, I'll call
it hall of fame, but it's hall of very good.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
Would you say that? If would you said it yesterday after?
But has passed away.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
But Dick Buckets needed to be in the Hall of
Fame all of his own.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
He gets out on that floor, him and Dion right.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
He know, yeah that if he has a separate wing
for the truly you know, like the top one hundred.
I think Bucks comes in somewhere in the top ten
or twenty easily.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
A guy who makes a second Old decade Jacoble and
he only played three years into it.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
He was so ridiculable. It's just like the standard, the
absolute standard for inside linebackers. There's only two guys that
you even talk about at that position, and it's him
and him and ray Lewis I just and people forget about.
Like Buccas was like what six ' five or something
like that. I mean, it was just an absolute monster.
(17:49):
He was a huge man with huge athletic ability. He
wasn't just a big inside, hard hitter. I mean he
was that too, but he was also a really really
great apple.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
I almost met him about twenty years ago at Fox
and I was working at Fox, and.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
I got this story.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
I all, no, but here's the thing, but it plays
into who he is.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Like I get on the elevator and it's at Fox,
in the Fox building where the NFL on Fox everything
else is there. And I get in and he's on
the elevator and someone's with him and he's looking at
a piece of paper. He's reading something. He's probably in
there to do something. I said, oh my god, I'm
gonna meet Dick Buckets.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
This is awesome.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
So I look at it, and he looks up and
he gives me a look, and I look at him,
and I just say to myself, I am not gonna
meet Dick Buckets right now. I'm gonna stand in the
corner of this elevator and hope he doesn't hit me,
Like he can't even look like, You're not gonna say
a loa to me. Okay, I'm not gonna say a
load to you. Yes, I'm gonna stand over here. You
get off the elevator first, Dick. God, you got it, buddy.
I will just remember that I almost met you.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
If you talk to me, I will throw you down
the elevator shaft. That's how this is going to go. Oh,
that's probably what he was gonna do. By the way, Patrick,
your guy, your producer, dude, is he like bucking for
or when they do a remake of Pretty Woman the
Larry Miller Park, you know.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Larry Miller, the greatness of Larry Millert.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
Like the whole Yes, more sucking Yes that that like
that when he calls you guys, big Mike and Big Jason,
like I'm just I'm picturing Larry Miller and Pretty Woman,
you know. Yeah, that's what I got Earlier.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
He said he was attempting to be lifelike. Tyshert can
vouch for that.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
It was really weird.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
So not not Larry Miller from necessary Roughness, but but
Larry Miller from Pretty Okay, I want to get that though, Okay.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
Very yeah, right right Larry Miller. Yes, exactly.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
All right. Week five of the n NFL j cole
Kansas City Mines. I did I did? They scored forty
on the night we honored Dick Bukis.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
That's exactly right. They played They played it for buckus
back right, Come on, wait a sec, just be happy
they showed progress. I was working on my rankings this week,
and which I do based on yards for past differential, right,
like how many yards game on your average play versus
(20:18):
how many you give up on an average play, which
is pretty good indication of consistency of a team. Right,
And the Bears are negative one. They were negative one
going into this game. Right, they're giving up six yards
of play. Six yards. I mean like Fields has these
issues and stuff like that, but six yards of play
(20:39):
is absurd on defense, and I know they did a
much better job yesterday. Like, do the have anybody who
can play defense like Chicago Bears?
Speaker 4 (20:49):
Yeah, coordinator, we still don't know what happened to Alan Williams.
Speaker 5 (20:55):
No, we don't. But even this is the defensive what's
going on here? Like I don't, I don't understand, but
they weren't yesterday. And you know, like you're seeing enough
out of justin Fields and it's like, okay, I'll keep
I'll keep hanging in with this. This is kind of interesting.
It's it's gonna be fun. I mean, I'm not sure
it's enough to say no to Caleb Williams if you
(21:18):
get that chance, but it's pretty interesting. I'll give him that.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
I'm pissed because now it looks like there's no way
the Jets are going to get him because they're going
to try to get a quarterback at the deadline.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
It was either.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Cousins or Tannehill or Justin Fields, and now none of
them are going to be available.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
Well yeah, because you're just dreaming of ways to save
this season, right, Oh, that's that's gonna happen. You're better
off getting the number one pick and having a truce
between Caleb Williams and whether you're going to bring Rogers
back or trade the number one pick and get a
ton of help for Rogers. That's what she really should
be thinking about.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
Well, let right there.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
I hate to be I hate to be Debbie Downer
about it, but.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
So so they're not winning this week.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Let's just have this conversation. If we lose to Denver. Okay,
if we lose to Denver, I'm with you.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
On that's that's probably gonna happen. I'm just gonna tell
you that right now.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Denver's defense the worst defense in the NFL. They're terrible.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Come on, man, is gonna run for two hundred and
seventy five yards? In the first half.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
Shades of Willie Ellison. Yeah, no, that's not gonna happen. Sorry,
moving along the Jets, that's not a story anymore. Like
as you know, never mind, I'm gonna I'm gonna stay
away from Zach Zach Wilson jokes.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Are you going to make Zach Thomas jokes instead?
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Okay, I'm not certainly not going to do that.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
Cowboys Hall of Famer Zach Thomas, Oh wow, Wow.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
That would be a Jerry Jones thing to claim him, though,
I would be Yeah, Zach was sad. It was that
one year he was with us and really kind of
put him over the top, even if it didn't put us.
But yeah, we really consider Zach find ex Cowboys player.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
Well earlier, I said Smith a picture of a trading
card I have featuring White Sox Hall of Famer Tom Seaver.
Now back to the.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
NFL, I was not a big fan of that time.
I'll be honest with Jay.
Speaker 5 (23:17):
Cult didn't like Cincinnati Reds. Yeah, I didn't like it
all right.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
When the Bengals lose to the Cardinals this week, did
they shut U shut our guy Joe Burrow down?
Speaker 5 (23:31):
That's really interesting. I was. I was listening to Jordan Palmer,
who's tight with Joe Burrow, talk about like all the
things that yeah, this is and this is a solid
week ago right when he was on another show, I'll
just say that, and he was talking about all the
things that Joe Burrow can't do because they're so concerned
(23:54):
that he could pop that that calf or hamstring or
all the other things that my happened. I'm like, this
is a whole lot more serious than the Bengals have
ever let on with this one, and maybe they do
have to shut him down if like it's so bad
that it's affecting the ability to run certain place. I
(24:15):
just I'm I'm really fascinated to know, and we probably
won't find until afterwards, find out what's really going on
with all of this.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Yeah, because I look at this Bengals team and I go, Okay,
you know it is it is this awful?
Speaker 5 (24:30):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (24:30):
It's just look, you can't win every year, and when
your quarterback is banged up.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
You see that the what Joe Burrow covers up with
a team.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
You see anytime you see a big starting quarterback hurt,
you see all the all the issues that he covers
up and look, you know, for the Bengals, they're saying, Okay,
maybe you know, the window might not be as open as.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
We thought it was.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
Well, the other side is like, don't you every time
they get a star player, you realize they're gonna get Bengalized, right,
Like it's not.
Speaker 6 (24:59):
Let's not pay yeah, let's get bingo eyes, which means,
you know, which I feel bad for people in Cincinnati
because it's like, you can't have nice things, like good
football players.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
You just can't. You know, you can, you can have
some pretty good things, but you can't have really great things.
It's like, you know when Carson Palmer being of Jordan Palmer,
his brother Carson, but you know like when when uh
Van oloften you know, basically destroys his knee, right, Like
you just sit there and go like this, poor, this
poor fan base can't ever have something really truly nice
(25:34):
that they can depend on. And Joe Burrow is the
you know, the latest incarnation of that of a guy
who's a really great player gets an injury and all
of a sudden they're just non functional. Even with Jamar
Chase Anti Higgins, who are just you know, amazing one
two punch wide receiver, Like they should be able to
roll out win games pretty easily. But that's how how
(25:57):
bad Joe Burrow appears to be.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
Right now, look at you. You inadvertently walked yourself into
a Taylor swift lyric. This is why we can't have
nice things all right? Next? Kansas City, Minnesota. Kansas City
favored by four on the road. Minnesota captain Kirk Cousin
tied for the league lead in touchdowns. Jason's calling it
his upset pick of the week fifty two and a half.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
What say you, well, Kirk Cousins is the al ways
time for atession only how many? How many turnovers does
he have as well? Like this is.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Why you gotta yep at my yell man.
Speaker 5 (26:34):
I just can't believe it's just, you know, I am
Kirk Cousins a really nice guy. He's really you know,
he's interesting, he's any even good player. But it's like,
I mean, dude, stopped, like stop turning the ball over?
Speaker 6 (26:52):
Can you just not do that?
Speaker 5 (26:54):
Not force things? Like every time there's like some hint
of real pressure on Kirk Cousins, like, oh, it's a
contract year, you might not be back with that. Vikings
like Okay, let's put up a lot of great stats
and then throw the ball to the other team a
bunch time. I stop, stop, oh, let me fumble it,
like twice in the opener, because they they're really a
(27:16):
pretty good team. They're very good on offense obviously, right,
and he's the engine of that, the thing that's killing
him in and as bad as their defense is, theoretically
they're they're doing a fantastic job without gaining opponents on it.
You know, again, on a per play basis, they're a
team that really is much closer to three and one
(27:38):
or even four oh based on their you know, their
down in and down out performance. But they just, you know,
like just give the ball away like they just constantly
and again I come back to in the highest of
high pressure situations, I just keep looking at Kirk Gos
and going, you just you just can't come down and
(28:01):
do the simple things like protect the ball, all.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Right, j Cole.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
Lastly, before you get out of here, Cowboys, forty nine ers,
I'm seeing the Niners in a route on Sunday night.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
How do you see this one?
Speaker 5 (28:15):
God? I'm agreeing with you, Yeah, buddy, yeah, what's wrong
with Let's talk more about Patrick.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Zach Wilson is good. I agree with Jason. What's happening?
Speaker 5 (28:27):
God, I got I gotta change the subject. Is Patrick's
last name Star or something like that? That'd be kind
of interesting, But yeah, I'll just I went from Larry
Miller to Patrick Starr in one interview. How did I
get these things together? So I really my biggest concern
(28:49):
about this is this week, like Mike McCarthy comes out
and says, oh, this is one of the biggest game
of the year, and this is awesome, and you live
for games like this and this, And then a couple
of days later, Jerry Jones goes on on Rating and
goes they have the Super Bowl goes through San Francisco.
That's the best team we're measuring up that our guys
(29:09):
really have to play. So he's adding pressure to his guys, right,
and like, you had twelve weeks left, how do you
maintain getting any more hyped after this game? Like how
do you remain sort of even keeled, especially if you
lose this game. If you lose this game, aren't you
(29:30):
saying Okay, well, the roads of Super Bowl goes through
goes through San Francisco, and we've already lost that road.
We've lost that battle. If we lose this one again,
and theoretically, this should be a really close game. And
in theory, the Cowboys may be the best team out
there suited to give brock Purty problems because they're so
(29:52):
quick on the offensive line. They're starting with Parsons, but
they got are the guys and Parsons who's winning on
blocks so much? Right, they could really be the first
team that gets Party out of out of rhythm in
the regular season, because what they scored thirty or more
that they be in the San Francisco scored thirty or
(30:13):
more in eight of his nine games. I mean, he's amazing,
Like there's I don't know that there's ever been a
quarterback to start his career like this, really even that
close in terms of consistently leading his offense, in being
effective and winning. Right, and this just brought Party. But
they could do this. But if they don't and they
(30:34):
lose this game, and especially if it is what you
and I both think, which is, you know, a two
score game, ten to fourteen points or even a little
bit more. Right, if it's something like that, what does
McCarthy say to his team next week. What is Jerry Jones,
you know say on radio, Oh, well we just wrote
lost the Road to the super Bowl. I mean like
you might as well just be you know, you know,
(30:57):
planning to sell more Cowboy bees. At this point, he's.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
On Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two, that is at
Jason Coles with the.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
Cowboys beef and just you didn't even go for it.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Dropped, don't you dropped the mike moment? Now I gave
you drop the mic and you have it.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
Okay, here we go, Thank you, Jacob.
Speaker 6 (31:16):
Okay, all right, you guys.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
Thanks, good.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Time to find out what's trending right now in the
wide world of sports with special delivery Steve to say,
yours dee, what do you got buddy?
Speaker 7 (31:27):
Well, we had two college football games tonight, one of
them winding down on FS one, Nebraska holding on to
a lead at Illinois with under three minutes to go
twenty to seven. The ALIGNI as a team nineteen carries
twenty one yards rushing, five total turnovers. In this game.
Oklahoma State won at home, holding on against Kansas State
twenty nine twenty one. Cowboys on field goals were five
(31:50):
for six to the NFL former Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins
says he's retired. Patriots running back Romandre Stevenson is questionable
for the weekend with a thigh injury. New England at
one and three will host New Orleans on Sunday. Saints
quarterback Derek Carr is questionable with the bad shoulder. New
Orleans tight end Juwan Johnson is out with a calf injury.
Bengals wide receiver T Higgins listed as questionable with his
(32:13):
rib injury. He returned to limited practice today. The Bengals
one and three will be playing Sunday at Arizona, which
is one and three. Bill's linebacker Von Miller expects to
play in London Sunday morning. This would be his season
debut against Jacksonville after the torn acl last year. For Jacksonville.
Linebacker Devin Lloyd is out wide receiver for the Lions.
(32:34):
Aman Ross Saint Brown is doubtful for this weekend with
his abdominal injury. The Bears traded wide receiver Chase Claypool
to Miami. The Broncos are trading linebacker Randy Gregory to
San Francisco, and the Raiders will be hosting the Packers
on Monday nights. Las Vegas quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo cleared concussion
protocol he will play, but Vegas wide receiver DeVante Adams
(32:56):
did not practice again today due to his shoulder injury.
The Texas Range say pitcher Max Schurzer, with a strange shoulder,
is a long shot to start in the next week.
The best of five division series all start tomorrow. FS
one has the American League this year, so it'll have
Tomorrow and Sunday Texas at Baltimore, then Minnesota at Houston.
The Minnesota Twins, three seed in the American League, eliminated
(33:19):
Toronto this week. Here Toronto and Minnesota were the two
best in the majors this year in eer by starting pitching.
Tampa Bay was in the top five in that category
and now out. But congrats to the Twins. They had
not won a postseason game since two thousand and four,
had been OH eighteen since, including OH to thirteen against
the Yankees, but it had been almost seven thousand days
(33:39):
that only got one playoff win. They got two this
week eliminated Toronto. Minnesota had the longest playoff losing streak
in North American team sports. Last year, Cy Young winner
sandyel Contra. The Marlins will miss next season after Tommy
John surgery. Today, gymnast Simone Biles won the all round
title at the World Championships and in Seattle time thirty
(34:00):
four thousand fans to see Megan Rapino honored by her
club final regular season home game for her a scoreless
draw against Washington That record crowd for an NWSL game
again thirty four thousand and one thirty. A reminder. With
the baseball starting tomorrow the Division Series, I should say
Justin Verlander will be the game one starter for Houston.
(34:22):
He's forty years old, like a Roger Clemens, regardless of age,
He's getting your first start of your postseason. It'll be
Clayton Kershaw, a veteran at Dodger Stadium tomorrow night against
Arizona and Merril Kelly, who has never beaten the Dodgers
in his career. Ozho to eleven Statsink says that is
the most career losses without a win against a single
(34:42):
opponent going into a playoff start against that opponent.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Beg to you, thanks a bunch, Steve O.
Speaker 1 (34:48):

a little bit.
Speaker 8 (35:27):

I can't wait for this, Joe.
Speaker 8 (35:33):
We're going to dive into what goes on in the

shirt really quick.

Do you know the name of this band, Cranberry's, is
the Cranberry's Very good zombie one.
Speaker 8 (36:02):
Right, yeah, yes, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Yep, very good. Look at you here.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
I was well done too. I'll tell you thank you.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
Every time I think you know songs of the past,
you really do? You do? You got it karaoke night.
Let's go, h Mike and I do it.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Every single week we have your upset special picks for
the week in the NFL. One in one, last week,
five and three on the season.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
I'll go first.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
I'll give you my first pick, Mike, and I'm.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Going to take the Colts getting three over the Titans.
Indianapolis is not as bad you think. Oh, they're starting
over with with Anthony Richardson. Anthony Richardson is hot and
it's not gonna slow down. He is one of the
He and c J. Stroud are the two big superstars
(36:48):
that we're gonna see birthed this season in the NFL.
He is incredibly talented. The Cults are getting Jonathan Taylor back.
That's gonna help. Indianapolis is a good team, and I
know that we see that division to go add kind
of stinks. Yeah, well, hey, you know they went took
the Rams to overtime last week. They could be three
and one in a big surprise story, but right now
(37:10):
we see him as a two and two TEAMULA now
Indianapolis better than you think. They get the jump with
Jonathan Taylor. But I'm going with a better quarterback, and
that's Anthony Richardson. He has a better He has a
four quarter game this week as opposed to the two
quarter game he had last week.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
Give me the Colts on the field, but I'll still
take the three.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Look at you the possibility of Taylor coming back, they've
been noncommittal. So fantasy owners, you gotta head your bets
and you gotta be ready for kickoff on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Yeah, one of those check the inactive list because either
he's gonna be active in playing, or he's not gonna
be act right, He's gonna gonna play and you have to.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
But or he's or he's just not going to play
at all.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
So we addressed it on the iWatch of Flex podcast
is if he goes, he's only a flex player because
Zack Moss has been too good to sit him down
or take away those touches altogether.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
I alluded to.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
Do it with Jake Cole. I think operations shut down
begins after the Bengals drop one in Arizona. Arizona field
goal underdog at home, forty four and a half the total,
Michael Wilson showing up a little bit. You still got
zach Ertz Dobbs taking care of the football and the
sledge hammer that is James Connor. Look for Arizona to
(38:17):
get after the beleaguered offensive line that is the Bengals,
Joe Mixon not running worth much of anything right now,
and Burrow hampered. Yeah, give me the.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
Cardinals my second pick.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
I'm gonna I'm getting a lot of points in this one,
and I love them. Give me the Giants getting twelve
and a half. Let's go against the Dolphins. Look, Hevin
Neil plays the game of his life. This is well. Look,
don't have to worry about Giants fans this week. Look,
it's gut check time for the Giants. This is as
low as they have been.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
This is as Berman like to say. This is a
circle of the Wagons week for the New York Giants.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
Right, it's gut check time. That's a big deal. The
offense is gonna score because you know Miami's defense as
good as the offense is.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
They allow points.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Miami is good, but they're a little loose, right, they're
a little loose a you know they're not They're not
a complete team yet.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
They're not battening down beating teams like the Sposters.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
They give up points, but more importantly this game, give
me the Giants defensive line to get at Tua enough
to keep the game close. Twelve and a half points
is a ton of points. I get it, the Giants
are bad play, but this is a lot of points,
and the Giants defensive line is pretty talented. Give me
the Giants. I'm gonna take every bit of those twelve
(39:31):
and a half points, my carman, give me the Giants.
Speaker 4 (39:33):
No question. And I know you hate this team, you
hate these Cans. There's my old man reference for Cans.
Baltimore's given four on the road at Pittsburgh the thirty
fourth meeting between Tomlin and Harbaugh. Thirty seven and a
half is your total. Shut up. The thirty seven and
a half is your total. They'll be ugly. Lamar Jackson
(39:56):
has struggled historically against the Steelers. These matchups have been close.
Look for Tomlin to take the seventeen to fourteen, edge
over the fun and exciting world of Harbaugh this time around.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
How many completed passes for Kenny Pickett four.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Nine and a half nine and the hell okay he
throws one lefty that Jalen Warren comes down with.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
Okay, very good.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
So there it is our Upset Special Picks. More big
stories from the NFL next
