Speaker 3 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight to the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, live from the
Tirack dot Com studios tyrack dot com. I'll help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers tiraq dot com.
The way tire buying should be. The Chiefs beat the Broncos.
(00:52):
Not a surprise, a little bit more of a yeah,
a little bit more of a struggle. Maybe a little
bit of a surprise. We'll get to the Chiefs coming
up in a bit, because look, there is a big
takeaway from Kansas City and for mahomes coming off of
their game tonight, and in congratulations to the Chiefs winning
again in front of Taylor Swift. But the big drama
in this game came before the game and then after
(01:15):
the game. As we learned the Princess Bride, the best
place to go is to start at the beginning.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
So we will start at the beginning.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
It was this week Broncos Legend Hall of Famer Mark
Schlereth criticized Broncos wide receiver Jerry Judy. Uh, Jerry Judy
didn't like it, and he kind of clapped back at it,
and that became a bit of a story. Steve Smith,
NFL Network broadcast, former NFL wide receiver, also criticized Jerry
(01:43):
Judy in a podcast, saying that he was a jag.
All right, we love you jag.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Right, yeah, Jag, You're a sure as soon as Mike
Mayo was one of the greatest gifts.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
You're just a guy, right, You're a jag. So Steve
Smith said that Jerry Judy was a jag. Okay, more
Jerry Judy, hate and more Jerry. But look, the criticism
is on the field of Judy. Before the game, Steve
Smith was feeling a little maybe a little bad about
the criticism he leveled at Judy, so he tried to
(02:18):
approach him to apologize or talk to him didn't quite
go the way that Steve Smith thought it was gonna go.
And so when NFL Network went to Steve Smith, he
told the story pregame about what happened when he had
just tried to talk to Jerry Judy for a short
while ago. Yeah, Broncos wide receiver Jerry Judy was walking
by and Steve called out to him.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
He got a different reaction.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
I called out to him because on my podcast cut
to it, I just talked about guys that maybe have
not showed up in a way or in a manner,
and so they weren't that I've used to describe him
in a past. Was a jag just they got. And
so when I saw him, he's playing well, I wanted
to say to him face to face, like, hey, I
(03:02):
know I said some things in the past I probably
shouldn't have and I'm sorry. That's what I wanted to
say to him. His response, Mike, Robb and Bucky was
ninja ninja. Yes, I'm using the word Ninja's I'm just
using the word ninja. I don't mess with you, and
it was it was a curse word. And so I
(03:24):
was like all right, and then he repeated it, so
I'll say it again. I'm sorry that I said you
were a jack, just a guy who's an average wide
receiver they use a first round.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Pick on that isn't doing anything.
Speaker 6 (03:33):
I hope today that you actually show up in a
way that you haven't showed up in the last couple
of years since they draft you. So if you ever
got a problem with Ajed eighty nine, I'm sorry for
saying that you're an average wide receiver that they eventually
will move on. And when teams called me and asking
shit they trade for you, I will say no, don't
trade for Jerry Judy because he's mentally unable to handle
(03:55):
constructive criticism from people who watch. Specifically, can he be
a wide receiver? He could be a wide receiver. He's
a Tier three Go back into the studio. I'm done now,
thank you.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
All right, I'm done.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Let's go back to you guys in the studio. So
there's Steve Smith savagely just just obliterating Jerry Judy.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
You're a Tier three wide receiver. You're just a guy.
Uh So.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
This was Steve Smith and you thought, wow, he is
on fire.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
A couple of.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Minutes go by, and NFL Network pregame goes back down
to Steve Smith at Mike Ruffalo and in this you're
not gonna see.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
It, but in this video in the beginning.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Jerry Judy is dancing behind Steve Smith whatever is in
the loud speakers, whatever he decided I'm going into the shot,
and Garifolo's looking is like, what the hell he is?
Speaker 7 (04:56):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (04:56):
He is dancing behind the video while the is being said.
So Steve Smith kind of wanted to backtrack a little.
I think he felt bad about what he said about
Jerry Judy on the air, so he wanted to backtrack
a bit. So this is going back to Steve Smith
after he said a Tier three wide receiver said you
were a jack. Here's Steve Smith Part two.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
You know, I don't know if Rutt saw Jerry Judy
on that book.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Did you see him flicker? This is a time for
me where when I used to play, I would engage
and I love that.
Speaker 6 (05:30):
Or right now I'm forty four years old, I don't
need to have this drama. And I also don't need
to have any problems on the sideline for me doing
something that will jeopardize not just me but him and
I'll be honest and I have to say it just
like this. One of the biggest problems we have in
the media, especially as a young black man, is sometimes
(05:52):
black on black crown.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
I'm not gonna participate in that.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
I'm not gonna engage where the national media can see
too young African.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
American man acting like we ain't got no sense. He
didn't like what I said, That's fine. I wanted to
talk to him. He didn't like it. Someone move on.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
But I'm one, I'm not gonna lose my job, and two,
I'm not gonna disrespect my family by showing I have
not matured and handle my business the way I should
handle my business.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
We gotta fight the caster in London. We got things
to do that may have got time to be watching
a dude do.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
Nothing, all right, so he felt bad. I don't want
to do it, but I don't have time to watch
him do nothing. So he kind of kind of wanted
to tamp it down a little bit, but then at
the end said, I don't have to watch this guy
do nothing.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
Now, if you were in the middle of a wrestling ring,
there would have been a pause before watch your guy
do nothing.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Sh So this gets to Jerry Judy. Of course, you
know after the game he's going to be asked about it.
And Jerry Judy got the question after the game, and
he played a little dodgeball pirate Steve.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
I don't know who you're talking.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
About, Jerry, A little bit of dry I'm up before
the game with Steve Smith's senior.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
I'm wondering what your thoughts are on that right now.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Man, that was a tough loves man.
Speaker 7 (07:05):
I feel like at the end of the game, I
feel like we could have we could have got there,
but you know, they had a good job at end.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
Jure Steve Smith said he had some kind of conversation
with you before the game. Did he did that not
go well or based on what he said on air
on NFL Network.
Speaker 7 (07:21):
I don't remember that, you know, but like I said,
you know, it was a close game. You just got
to finish at the end of the name.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
I don't remember.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
I don't know what you're talking it was, but it
was before the game. Yeah, I don't remember, but it
was before this game.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Yeah, I never heard.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
I know you're talking about pirates, stated guy on the team.
He's got to got a pirate. He dresses like a
pirate all the day. I don't know what you're talking
about it, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Look who There's a lot to unpack here, But the
main thing is this, Steve Smith's been in the media
and he was a great wide receiver for a long
time in the NFL. None of the criticism that Steve Smith,
nor Mark schle At Jerry Judy was out of bounds, right,
because if there was out of bounds or hey you
(08:05):
got a little personal on things, all right, I get it.
But they were criticizing him as a wide receiver, stayed
on the field, nothing personal, not. This is the kind
of guy he is. This is what I saw him.
Do you have to practice one time? This is you,
what you say, what you do on the field. All
that criticism is legit. And I would tell this to
Steve Smith. Dude, this is the game. If you're in
(08:28):
the media, this is the game, and you need to
be honest with your opinions about players and coaches because
you're not doing the show for players and coaches who
text you after the game going dude, man, you were
on fire. I saw what you said about Brian Billick
or whatever.
Speaker 5 (08:43):
No, that was awesome.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
No, you do the show for the people like you
and I and everybody else who watches the game. I
want to see what you think about things. That's who
you do your show for. And if it's too difficult
for you to do that, and he makes it seem
like maybe it was because I didn't like the Jerry
Judy said what he said to me. Then you know what,
Then don't be on TV. Then do something else for
a living.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
This is the game.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
I didn't invent the game. And this is not the way,
but the way the way it is now in the media.
This is the way the last few years. It's all
about hot takes and it's about saying what you want
to say. There's no dancing around things. There's no being
being a professional. There's no Hey, I don't want to
say a bad thing about a player. It's if a
guy stinks, you can say he stinks. If he really stinks,
you say he really stinks. If the guy really is good,
(09:28):
you talk about why he's really good. Strong with your opinions.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
That's what it was. That's the game.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Every NFL player who steps into the television ring now
does one thing. I want clicks, because clicks sell. I
want clicks, so I'm gonna be strong. Dan Orlovski and
everybody else and all these guys every day they sit
here and they say, what can I say that's gonna
get me clicks? What's gonna feature me on awful announcing?
(09:56):
Because that's when I know I've had a good day.
If a website about sport media mentions me, I know
I've had a good day. That's what it's becoming. You
see all the guys that come on TV now, all
the former players are all coming on hot takes, big opinions,
and they sell because you know why, I'd like to
see what a former player like Steve Smith, who certainly
(10:16):
has the cachet to talk about Jerry Judy, has to
say about Jerry Judy. You don't apologize far, we can't.
If you can't do it, man, get out.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
This is the game.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
This is the game.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
Right. It's the same philosophy of Billy Bean and Moneyball
saying I can't go on the road with the guys.
I have to cut him, I have to trade him.
You go on the road with them, Pete. Right, that's
how it goes. Hey, I'm sorry if you got to
be critical of a guy and you go, way, hey,
we shouldn't be saying this about each other. No, man,
your job is to say things about the National Football
League and the game going on and the players on
the field, and you do it right, and you stay
(10:47):
in bounds with it and you're strong with what you
have to say. If you can't do it, get off television.
Somebody else will do it. That's the way it is
right now. There's nothing that Steve Smith said to was
out of bounds. You tried to fix with Jerry Judy.
He didn't want to fix it with you, okay, But
to sit here and say, oh, now I'm going to
make it all this and I don't want this to
be and there's problems going on. No, you were criticizing
a guy talking about how he played on the field.
(11:09):
That's one hundred percent legit. Yeah, I want to know
who he got the phone call from family member, significant
other kid that just came back to them, was like, Wow.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
You're a little harsh on that, right, because that's not
an executive I mean, that's exactly what you want from
your guy on the sideline, a guy that had almost
fifteen thousand career receiving yards, right, that's a guy who
has his CV says, I can talk about receivers and
I can say what I need to say. So I
want to know who got in his ear Nathan, you'l
(11:44):
Hackett to be like it's a little harsh. Maybe maybe
he should back off, may sho be a little nicer.
It was Sean Payton, because Sean pay Hey, you know,
we do things differently here in Denver. Man, it's different
from last year. Well, we did change out a lot
of stuff in the off season. You see, Well it's going.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
But the.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
Fact of the matter is, you know, for Steve Smith,
you know, he was a guy fiery reputation right, little
undersized all the criticism that and critiques of all of that.
He carried that chip on his shoulder and he always
wanted to fight the world. So maybe there was that
moment of you know what, I was that guy as
a player, and I probably would have said the same thing.
(12:24):
And then he decided to go back into full WWE
mode and say, you know what, we're not spending our
time talking about a guy who's gonna do nothing like
that line to me says, it all becomes a WWE
work when it's all said done, like, you know what,
I wanted to say this and I called it and
then he didn't accept the apology. I mean, it makes
(12:46):
for a great little arc, didn't it, as opposed to
you know we you know I said something because he
wouldn't bring it up otherwise. Right, if Judy didn't still
have beef, that's gone.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
And do you think if it was reversed and someone
was saying that about Leve Smith, he wouldn't get in
the guy's face.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
It's exactly right, that's of course he is.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
He was like this when he played. He was like,
this is it's it's to sit here and don't make
it up anything other than oh hey, I wasn't. I'm
not ready for the smoke when I say something critical
about a guy and suddenly he comes back at me
or at the game, and well, no, no, no, this
is your your your job. You have to be loyal
to the viewers and people to watch you on TV.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
That's you're loyal.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
That's the thing.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
It's like, I'm curious of where the note came from.
Like it's not like he had this great moment of clarity.
I don't think about it. It's like, you know, might
have been a little of that of Hey, Steve, you
were that guy, so understand where Judy's coming from. By
the same token, it weren't you didn't go out of pocket, right,
and wasn't attacking the guy to say he's not working,
(13:47):
he's not finishing routes, he's not you know, working extra
for Russell Wilson to give him a target. All of
these things all in bound, all absolutely in bounced. So
you know it's family member that tried to get him
to see the light, to try to soften it, because
again in the production year and certainly on social media,
(14:10):
he's the biggest winner of the day, right, Travis Kelsey
had a big game in front of Taylor swid Great,
her movie opens in full tomorrow. Everybody gets richer Great. No, no, no,
Steve Smith eviscerating Jerry Judy. Come on, man, he won.
I mean we didn't even talk about Orlowski's anniversary is
(14:30):
stepping out of the back of the end zone, which
is today, So I mean he wasn't condemned to win
the internet about Steve Smith said, hold my beer.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Count those clicks. Everybody knows what sells. You gotta be
okay with it. It's a This is tough, man. You're
in front of a microphone every night. You can't sit
here and say, well, Jerry, Judy, maybe he's not getting
the chances. Maybe he's not getting the opportunity.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
You know what, man, not take better? You're allows the
softball player.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
I'm not I'm not ready to say that he should
be traded. But if it works out for the Broncos
and it's something they want to do, uh, I I could.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
Floating Dome.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
I could potentially, maybe in theory, possibly see the Broncos
trading Jerry.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
Come on, man, Yeah, the Broncos at this point are
Leo DiCaprio at the end of Once upon a Time
in Hollywood standing there with his spoiler flamethrower. It's been
out long enough.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Let's go twitter it out about a Fresco. Mike get
swollen dull. I mean, that's what Steve Smith got.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
If you can't, if you can't say it to get out,
somebody else will be on TV and they'll be loyal
to the viewers and they'll be loyal to what's out there.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
And all he called him was a jag I know.
I mean that just means your mediocre JG. Right, I
mean that means your mediocre, that's not even you could
have gone so much, Harcher, you're.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
A jaguh exit out about a Fresco exit swalling home.

We'll coming up next. We've got something big on Patrick
Mahomes and the Chiefs. And if you say I'm too
(16:13):
harsh on the Braze for losing and getting knocked out
when they should have won the World Series, I'll tell
you why. Coming up next right here, Jason Mike Fox.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. I mean, I know sometimes Tysha just
plays the song, eh.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Why not?
Speaker 5 (16:44):
Well, I mean if he played the opening screen and impossible?
All right, So.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
We'll get to Patrick Mahomes coming up in a couple minutes.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
But you know, people say to me social media elsewhere,
are Jason, You're too hard, You're dancing on I'm the
Grave of the Braves, and you're so happy the Braves
lost and the Braves brave's bad? Okay, yes, Mets fan me,
do I want an NLES team to win the World Series?
Of course, not not a team that's not the Mets.
And every round of the playoffs, I knew somebody was
going home from the nleast because basically everybody made it
(17:17):
except the Mets. But my point about the Braves, and
I think the Phillies will back me up. And you've
seen the way the Phillies have reacted to the Braves
this series. The Braves are very elitist. They're very much
a big look at me team. They're never shy about
telling you how great they think they are with a
great group of guys, we have, the way we play
(17:37):
the game. They're never shy about talking about how great
they will play and how great they played in a series.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Right, That's who the Braves are. And what happened this series.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
The Braves got caught talking, Arcia got caught saying how
at a boy Harper when Bryce Harper got caught off
first base the final out of Game two of the series,
the only game the Braves won that got back to
the Phillies and Bryce Harper it's two home runs last
night and glares at Arcia as he goes around the bases.
Both times, Braves are upset. Oh, it was said in
(18:09):
the locker room. It should stay in the locker room.
Stuff gets out of the locker room all the time. Man,
you want to do the out of boy Harper. You
want to say it. Guess what it could get out?
And the Braves are upset, Oh, that just stay in
the locker room. You guys like to talk a lot,
a lot about things, and you're upset that this gets out.
Now that this shouldn't be something.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
It shouldn't. It should stay in the locker room. It's
not how it works. It's not how it works because
it looks bad for you. It doesn't.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
It doesn't work. And now the Phillies use that as
a rallying cry. And you saw after tonight they win.
You had guys wearing Ada Boy Harper T shirts in
the clubhouse. Phillies players wearing Ata Boy Harper T shirts
that on the back said that shouldn't have gotten out.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
I mean, that's the best job patrolling. It's the best
job patroll. Wearing T shirt saying ata boy Harper out
of the back, that shouldn't have gotten out. I would
buy that T shirt and wear it because it's such genius.
Speaker 5 (19:03):
But this is my point.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
You probably find this is my point. When you talk
and you like to talk, and the Braves like to talk,
they'd like to sit out there. We're the empire now,
we're the evil empire. When you lose, yeah, you gotta
take it. You gotta take it, and you gotta walk
away and say you know what, yes, you beat it
and whatever. Whatever the Phillies want to say, they get
to say because you started, it's a great rivalry. Now
(19:25):
it's awesome, boy, Phillies, Phillies Braves is fantastic. We need
more rivalries like this in Major League Baseball, and we're
gonna get that on steroids next series. I don't mean
real I mean like metaphorical staris. I mean with the
Rangers and the and the Astros. Uh, we need more
of that.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
But that's the way it works.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
When you want when you want to talk, hey, you
get beat and you're upset, yap, yap, yapping, you gotta
take it. And that's and that's my whole thing with
the Braves is you know what you like to be
looking at me all this when you lose. This is
how it goes the other way. Nobody says. Nobody sees
a team like the Braves that likes to celebrate and
be elitist and then walks way saying, oh, they lost,
No big deal. No, everybody's got an emotional investment of
(20:03):
some kind in it. And that's the way people react.
And now there the Braves and their fans, they'll be upset.
They're upset at the Phillies.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
Phillies won.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
They can do whatever the hell they want to, especially
when you're the ones who wanted to start that whole thing,
the whole out of boy Harper, all of this jumping
out of the stands on the final play. Hey, this
how you want to do it? Okay, when you want it,
when you want to show your wings and say, look
at me, I'm the most I'm the most.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Beautiful peacock in the world. Look at all the colors
I have. When you lose, other teams are gonna say,
look at my wings. My wings are bigger and I
and I look better and I preen better.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
And you just got to sit there and take it
and watch me go to the Peacock NLCS while you
sit in the Peacock n LDS, or sit home and
watch peacock, because that's what you'll be doing.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
He's not playing games anymore. You gotta let me fly, captain. No,
I mean, because look, we did a bit, you know,
you and I going back forward, leaving no pop culture
stone unturned, kind of laughing at the absurdity of these
teams that dominated the regular or season going home, and
we got into ten things I hate about you because
you goin the braves the team, look at me, look
(21:08):
at me. The Julia Stiles response to the opening call,
it's like, where did you come from? Planet loser? And
you can do the three card moni and grab all
the hats that you want and ascribe it to your
favorite squad, whichever planet they would be on. But yeah,
to your point, like we need rivalries, right. One of
(21:31):
the things that you would say about baseball, and it's
been one of the criticisms a bit about the NBA
is all right, everybody's friends and there's not that animus.
There's not that angst there is divisionally, right, we have
it for college football college basketball that a'll still is there.
For the NFL, you've got some of it, but players change.
(21:54):
It's more fan on fan, as evidenced by the number
of fight videos we get in a given week. But
for baseball to have the the RCA and Harper thing,
that's great. Players that in theory are with these squads
a while you already know the the animists that's there
in in division at your mets in and even we
(22:16):
want to make it a triple threat match if they
want to come into the fray. But it's for baseball.
It's it's a great thing. More more of this kind
of back and forth and fans jumping on it and
like what are you gonna say? How are you gonna respond?
Speaker 6 (22:31):
This?
Speaker 5 (22:31):
Why the Steve Smith thing is so interesting? Right? Jerry
Judy does the I never heard of him kind of
thing in the post games, Like, no, that's not the
last you're gonna hear about it, right, Schlearet's popping off
on on x slash Twitter again, So that has legs.
As the Phillies advance Castellanos with back to back multi
(22:52):
homer games. He was asked about it in posts because
I really were taught, he was. It was mentioned in
post and he goes, well, that's not a question. Yeah,
it goes well, now you know, it's like, all right,
nobody's ever done this, but that's cool. So you're getting
new heroes, right, We need heroes, We need villains to
further the storylines and for the Braves. This kind of
(23:14):
starts to look like a repeat of all those great
pitching staffs that left with their one world series, doesn't it.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
And I'll tell you know another just another bit to
talk about the Braves and to look at me. Vaughan Grissom,
who was the last batter of the game. Right, I
hadn't had in at bats since August twenty third, and
it turns out to be the last, the last guy batting,
and he strikes out with the runners at first and third.
When he got drafted four years ago, right, I told
you the story off the air a little bit ago.
He got drafted eleventh round and someone asked him what
(23:43):
were you thinking? You know, was exciting the moment and
he says, well, as time went on, I thought I
was going to get drafted by the Mets, and that
would have been terrible. So you know what, honestly, how
am I supposed to feel as a Mets fan when
I see him strike out the LDS?
Speaker 5 (23:56):
I saw what you screamed at the TV.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
Yeah, let's I mean, let's be How am I supposed
to feel?
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Oh that's too bad, that's too bad, yay struck out?
How am I supposed to beel when you say, oh, hey,
that would have been met That would have been terrible.
He was a Met, he wouldn't have to worry about
the NLDS, so it would have been better for him.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
How am I supposed to feel? This is this is
this is who they are.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
This is how the braves and you can be that
way and it's awesome and it's fun, and you you
have people that have distinct opinions about you one way
or the other. But when it goes bad, hey, you
know what, you got to sit there and take it
because that's how it works.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
No, it's the old you know line that we we
have fun with in the Harmon Household, with the old
you only saying when you're winning, right, you're all happy,
and then all of a sudden you're you're sitting there
and and glum and just staring blankly into space. When
things go sideways, it's recognized, you know, from most of
the world, it's usually sideways or on its way down.
(24:53):
So that's why we find our wins where we can.
But we recognize there's an ebb and flow to this
universe karma, as you've cited a couple of times over
the course of the show. And yeah, they've got to
wear it for the off season. Certainly, listening to local
radio here in La our our flagship KLAC not all
(25:13):
sunshine and rainbows from people calling in. All right, you'd
have some excuse making I believe I actually heard a
grown man cry about the loss. But other than that,
you had a lot of let's just get down to
brass tacks. Your your high priced guys didn't perform, didn't
hit in big spots for the braves. That's gonna be

You left me just when I needed you most, Ronald
Acuna Junior, and you're two for fourteen.
Speaker 4 (25:44):

in the wide world of sports? As they you are
correct about the stars not performing.

Mookie Betts, for example, at the top of the Dodger

three years. Here, he was zero for eleven this year,
two for fourteen against the Padres last year, four for
twenty three against the Braves, getting eliminated a couple of
years ago, and the Atlanta Braves were eliminated by Philadelphia
tonight for the second year in a row. Game four
(26:20):

three to one. Nick Castellanos with two solo homers. He
went three for three with a walk. Last night he
hit two solo shots. Trey Turner went four for four

the losing pitcher, Spencer Streider, a twenty game winner, lasted

(27:47):
Patrick Mahomes one TV one interception, three hundred six yards
passing Denver with three turnovers. They lose again, and they've
lost sixteen straight to the Chiefs head to head. And
how about this the best record for a starting quarterback

the late start time, all loves it.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
He says, I wish the game could be at midnight.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
I want the game to be so late.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
I want to play in the middle of the night.
Let's starty.
Speaker 8 (30:46):
Sarcasm doesn't always come through.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Let's play the radio games. Why are we playing at
seven to thirty.
Speaker 8 (30:51):
Let's play at midnight, going up against Stanford tomorrow night
and Star Travis Hunter could be playing back to you.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
Let's play when the bars closed, because people will come
home and watch our game. Let's play. I love the
late game.
Speaker 8 (31:01):
One. One item pointed out, Hey, you know, as your
attitude is, can't wait to get rid of this contra
conference and all these late starts. As if the Big
twelve will never have any evening.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
No like this, we don't have night in the in
the Big twelve. Look how many Mountain time zone people
times they have dinner at six thirty and then they
all go to bed, so that there's no night. There's
no night in the Midwest.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
Be a lot of great things, Dion Sanders, Colorado story.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
There's been a lot of great things.
Speaker 5 (31:29):
You look like a dope.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Got a lot of great things out of the Pac
twelve this year. Fantastic best year.
Speaker 8 (31:35):
They gat they've still got a court case going on
with the Pack twelve, And it turned out Comcast was
paying them too many millions. Sure, and it's now getting
the millions back.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
So wait a minute.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
So the Pac twelve was getting too much money from
their television contract, so you're telling me.
Speaker 5 (31:52):
What you're saying is they fixed the glitch.
Speaker 8 (31:54):
So they've been diving into the reserves and they hope
to get the book Bok's set by the end of
this year, in time for you know, almost everybody to leave.
But apparently the commissioner that nobody likes. In retrospect, Larry
Scott was told about this from an audit. Hey, you
know what that they're paying us like five six billion
(32:15):
a year more than they have to. He says, yeah,
I don't believe those numbers. Don't look into it.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
Huh, thank you, Steve The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Carmen. Larry Scott just keeps getting tagged. Well,
we even better if he's put it all on a
giant account. Look at all the extra we get to
keep the interest. Here's your money.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
What does that say? Cayman Islands? Why is that? Why
is it on there? I don't understand. Did you see
the firm?
Speaker 5 (32:41):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (32:41):
Coming up next the Play of the Night, And believe
it or not, it's not a game.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
From either the Braves Phillies not a play from Braves
Phillies or Chiefs Broncos.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (32:51):
You'll find out as well as what the Chiefs are
definitively going to do for Patrick Holmes in the next
couple of weeks.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fuck.
Speaker 3 (33:04):

more about the stories about what made these people love
their sport and all the interesting interactions along the way.
We talked to coaches, we talked to players, We tell
you stories. You download it, you listen to it.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
I think you like it.
Speaker 9 (33:34):
Listen to All Ball with Doug Gottlieb on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. We'll have to play then I come
in your way in a couple of minutes. But two
big thoughts on each of the quarterbacks from Thursday Night Football,
Patrick Mahomes three hundred and six yards tonight passing a
touchdown pick.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
The Chiefs are just still not the Chiefs, all right.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
We've got enough of a sample size now six games
to show you that, and you can see that the
offense just isn't the same. It's great to see Travis
Kelce having a big night tonight, his first big night
because the chunk yardage wasn't there for him up until now.
But this is not a Chiefs offense. It's suddenly just
gonna get better. They need to make a big move.
(34:27):
They will make a bold move. They will get a
legit number one receiver. By the deadline, there will be
a few available as teams are gonna want to keep
moving on. The thing that sucks for them is that
the two guys most eminently available, or the three guys
are DeVante Adams, who they're not trading in division, Jerry Judy,
who they're not trading in division, and Mike Evans, who
now that the Buccaneers are suddenly good, might not get traded.
(34:49):
But they will come up with somebody you mentioned Hollywood
Brown early in the show. They will make a big
trade for Mahomes and suddenly then You'll see the Chiefs
offense start to take off, but they realize, all right,
we can't make it work with this group of wide receivers.
They need a number one.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
Yeah, it's all a function of at some point, and
the Broncos were certainly not the team to do it.
There's going to be somewhat better coverage on Kelsey and
you're gonna need someone to step up because right now
he's banged up. Right, he had a big game tonight,
was able to sit down in the zone. Eight catches
against the zone. You had a forty yarder moving pretty
(35:23):
well all things considered. But you've already had him hurt
twice and we're in week six. At some point you'd
like to be able. Not that you're gonna put him
in bubble wrap, but you're gonna need someone else to
step up, whether he needs to actually sit a game
down the stretch to be ready for the playoffs or
you know, Lord, don't want to speak it into existence,
(35:46):
but if he's hurt, who's stepping in right your offense
is sunk if he's not available. Steve Bono, nicely, don't
Bill Kenny, Okay, Yeah, we go down that road. Yeah,
Button tamrad Van over you're ahead. They just go random
chiefs of the past. But you know, trying to find
the number one. That'll be the curious thing because right
(36:08):
now you got a well, let me let's use the
word of the day, a bunch of Jags.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
Now.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Now, speaking of a bunch of Jags, let's get to
the Broncos. Yeah, Russell Wilson had his worst game of
the year tonight. He's been a little bit better though
overall that he was last year. He's passer rating his
high He's got eleven touchdowns, he has moved the team, okay,
but tonight was a bad night. He's not going to
be starting for the Broncos much past Halloween. In fact,
if I would say by Thanksgiving, it's going to be
(36:35):
somebody new. And we talked to Jay Glazer early show tonight.
We said, how much longer can they go with Russe Wilison?
How much longer?
Speaker 4 (36:41):
I don't know. Maybe, you know, look at some point,
maybe Jared Sidham takes over. You know this is saying.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
But Jay was like, I don't know, I can't say that.
Russell Wilson, he's not been good. He's not the same
guy physically he's not the same guy fitting into this system.
And because he's Doe all that money thirty seven million
dollars for guaranteed for injury before next season, the Broncos
aren't gonna risk him getting hurt and being on the
(37:08):
hook for that money and then making it impossible to
trade him, because they will trade him in the off season.
You're worried about the money, Yes, it'll suck for them
next year, but they'll have Russell Wilson off the books
after twenty twenty four. Somebody will take him because he's
playing a little bit better this year, and other teams
will understand that we're gonna sit Russell Wilson either because
(37:28):
he's not playing well slash he's got a phantom injury slash.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
We want a tank and get a quarterback. Slash.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
We want to make sure he doesn't get hurt, so
we can trade him in the off season because they
want to get as many picks back as possible, because
they give up a lot to get him, which is
why Frank Clark is gonna be gone and Jerry Judy's
gonna be gone at some point. So that's going to happen.
I would say by Thanksgiving and maybe even sooner. You're
talking maybe five games Russell Wilson has left to be
the Broncos quarterback, maybe less. That's what you're looking at,
(37:54):
because that's absolutely gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (37:56):
Yeah, they're gonna sell off all the component parts that
they can that have any value. You Right, Gregory's already gone,
Clark's on his way out the door. You're looking at
the receiving room. And we've talked a lot about the
controversy Schlare and Steve Smith Senior talking about Judy primarily
Courtland Sutton got a little bit of the shrapnel in
(38:18):
all of it. But it's the idea that going forward
you're going into complete tear down and the fact that
you and I had talked about it theorized and then
while we're talking with Jay Glazer, you know, asking what
the steps are and how quickly do they rip it down?
That he got to stit them pretty fast, right. That
(38:40):
connect the dots came without prompting specifically to that point
in our conversation. That came out of Jay Glazer, who
as we know, is a very well connected man. So
we take that for what it is and we'll watch
it all burn.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
Now It's time for the Play of the Night, brought

(39:17):
in there. Could be from the Braves Phillies game, Lancelyn
giving up three home runs to the Phillies and Phillies.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
Oh sorry, sorry, too.
Speaker 5 (39:25):
Soon, He's already in Kancus.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
But instead, our play the Night comes to us from
the college football game of the Night, West Virginia and Houston.
Dana Halligerson, longtime West Virginia coach, now coaching Houston. The
Cougars were down by four with time for one final play.
It had to be a hail Mary from midfield, and
it turned out like this, back to past Donovan Smith.
Speaker 9 (39:52):
Smith steps up in the pocket, unloads, it, throws it
all the way downfield into the end zone, tipped, and
it is God.
Speaker 10 (40:00):
By the cover uns God for a touchdown. Believable conference
the Boo Johnson the ball was tipped up in the

Hon reel, pun reel.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
It's the cougars first ever Big Twelve.

Forty two points scored in the fourth quarter. I hope
you had the over coming up next, My buddy Ben Mallery,
you are listening to Fox Sports Radio.
