Speaker 3 (00:50):
Well.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
The Phillies smack the Diamondbacks tonight ten nothing. They take
Game two of the NLCS and a security guard really
smacked a fan running on the field during this game.
Joining us on the hotline the fan who was caught
running on the field smacked down by security. He is
(01:11):
MLB Network Insider Extraordinaire, John Paul Morosi. You can follow
him on Twitter. Had John Morosi live from the Slammer.
I understand you may only have a few minutes here, JP,
and thank you for us being your one phone call.
What was it like for you running across the field
and getting hit that hard?
Speaker 4 (01:29):
I guess, guys, I was just really curious to see,
with my reporter's acumen, if there is still a jail
at the Philadelphia Sports Stadium for a long time. Of course,
there was the amazing tales of the jail at the Vets,
and I just had to learn from myself if that
was also the case in Citizens Bank Park.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Did you get a good look at it? Did you
see when it happened?
Speaker 4 (01:54):
So here's how I became aware of it. I entered
the field after the final out to do our interviews
for MLB Network, and I was making my way around
home plate and I heard there, of course, is always
a very loud din about the noise at Citizens Bank Park,
(02:18):
especially right now, and then I heard at this high octave.
Then it went up a higher octave like who, And
that told me that something was happening on the field.
And I turned around and I saw what appeared to
be a form tackle by a member of the Eagles
secondary about one hundred yards away from where I was standing,
(02:38):
and so I was, honestly in the moment a little
bit afraid that they were maybe going to hustle everybody
off the field. But obviously order was restored quickly thanks
to the Eagles secondary and or the Phillies security crew.
So well done by the Phillies. I mean even even
their security detail was on point tonight. You win ten
nothing your security guard. They're on their game. It's hard
(03:01):
to find any flaw with Philly right now.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
Well, and that's the thing, I mean, this is done right.
I mean Jason, Jason got all excited, you know when
Cave was rounding second and goes, oh, you know, you
just give it a door to open, and then they
went listlessly into the night.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Yeah, I mean what JP when it was ten tohering
and Cave has taken trying to take third and it
and then then they're looking to see if they can
review it.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
I'm saying, Okay, there's little bulletin.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Board material for the Diamondbacks because they need a JP.
I don't know, I know there's any way out for
them in this series.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Well, the Phillies, they're on a mission. They're a really
talented team. When you look at and just compare the
two lineups, the Phillies have the deeper lineup. They're playing
better right now, and obviously it's it's the small sample
size at a small sample size time of year. And
the thing that stands out about the Phillies, and this
may sound very subjective and difficult to prove, but you
(03:55):
can tell they really love talking about the game. They
immerse themselves in the game. They're surrounding themselves with the game.
You've got superstars who approached their craft as if they
were the last man on the roster and a real grinder.
And when you have that kind of an ethic about
your team, it's really hard to beat you. And think
(04:19):
about all the tone setters they've got on this team.
Schwarber played for Team USA, Turner played for Team USA,
Real Muta played for Team USA. Harper was going to
play for Team USA had he not been hurt. And
so we're talking about some of the best baseball players
in our country and they're all on one team. It's
like an all star team. And then Bohm has a
big night tonight. Defensively as well, Stott has emerged. I
(04:44):
thought marsh had some good at Batman, and again things
can run hot and cold in the course of the
playoff series. There's a travel day tomorrow, the Diamondbacks will
be back home, so things can change. But if the
question is are we seeing imminently in medications that things
are about to take, I would say no, we are.
(05:04):
We are not. So it's going to take the Diamondbacks.
And listen. The other part about this, at the risk
of oversimplifying things, the Phillies pitching has been lights out,
and and Nola has been unbelievable, and Wheeler was unbelievable
in Game one, and so when when you've got two
guys on their game, it's just, really it's really hard
(05:25):
when you when your starters are that good. It's hard
for the Phillies to look bad, and it's hard for
the Dbacks to look good. And and that can all
change if all of a sudden, Brandon Fott has the
night of his life and if Suarez struggles in Game three,
you don't know. And I think a lot of it's
going to be determined on how how they both come
out and how the bullpens get involved, because I think
(05:47):
both Game three and Game four are going to be
much more bullpen influenced games and what we saw here
in games one and two.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
Yeah, I was going to say, my man has already
had his game of his life against the Dodgers last round.
But I'd like you to do a feature on MLB
Network about the Samson effect and the long hair clotiating
a culture and really, you know the dominance there, because
it looked like it grew for each guy another three
inches on their heads today JP and and I can
(06:17):
only wish to have that same problem.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
So here's the question on the Phillies. Who who's the
head of hair do you find to be the most impressive?
Is it Strom? Is it Bom, is it Marsh? What
do you got?
Speaker 5 (06:31):
I think Marsh is the leader in the club. I
like because he was like Chris Stapleton. As he got
to second base, we were waiting him to rip out
a guitar and starts singing to it.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah, but Strom kind of looks like Brandie Johnson. Yeah,
he gots on the mound, So I kind of like that.
It kind of he looks even more intimidating JP Nennis.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Not true.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
They just they're so deep right now. And I really
mean this. I've been I've been very blessed in my
career and also just being a fan to be in
some pretty remarkable atmosphere and in terms of open air stadiums,
I have not been in many places like this in
my life. It's loud, it is raucous, it is alive.
(07:11):
It has a really huge influence on the way the
game is played. It really is unique. I mean, this
is you know, Dave Dombrowski has been in this game
for forty years and he said it's the best home
for the advantage he's ever seen. And Dave does not
just say things for hyperbole purposes like that. That was
a very honest assessment. And we'll see if the d
(07:32):
Backs fans at Chase can can equal it, because they're
going to have to bring some energy to get this
I think, to get this series back that they've got
to support Brandon fought a lot in Game three. They
got to get the bats going. They got to get
going on the basis too. I think that's the other
thing is we expected to see more activity on the
bases than what the d Backs have done. So a
lot of questions and we'll see how the d Backs
(07:54):
answer them there In Game three.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
All right JP heading over to the American League. I'll
ask you the same thing is the Alcso are we
going to do? I? Am I gonna have to sit
here and watch the Phillies play against De gram in
absentia and Max Schers are in the World Series?
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Am I gonna have to go through that?
Speaker 4 (08:10):
Well? I think that based on the way the series
have gone, I look at the Astros being the team
that has the better chance to come back, and that
may sound a little strange because it's the Astros have
lost two games at home, but you think about their history.
They've got a lot of guys in that clubhouse who
(08:30):
were part of the team in twenty nineteen and then
forced the seventh game, part of the team in twenty
twenty that was down three to zero to the Rays
in an empty ballpark in San Diego and still came
back and forced the seventh game. So they they can
do this, And I think they've got so much experience
and know how that they've got a shot even on
(08:52):
the road. So the Rangers, they're playing great, but I
look at the Astros with just how how well they've
played at October for a very very long time. As
being a team that still has a chance here to make.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
A comeback, something we talked about coming into the series JP,
you know, the veteran managers because we've been you know,
we watched these mistakes in the NFL and down in
distance and some of these guys are long tenured Summer Green,
and then we look at Bochie and we look at
Dusty Baker. It's like, all right, it's not about them.
It's just all about the players. Like we're not even
(09:25):
really other than the rally cry and what their history is.
I don't think we're micro managing the same way from
the catbird seat that we have as we do with
some of these others.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
Yeah, I think that's fair. And to be honest, in
these first couple of games here in the NLCS as well,
there haven't really been that many moves that Bury Lavello
has made that would have made a huge difference here.
And I think the same is true with the Astros
and Fron Rivaldez just didn't have a good game and
at that point, what can Dusty really do about it?
(09:57):
I think that's the other piece of that puzzle. So
I think that you've got guys who understand how to
run a Bullpen. I think Rob Thompson's an excellent manager
in Philly Dusty And here's the really dramatic part of
this is that we don't know Dusty's managerial future beyond
this year, and he doesn't in my opinion, he does
(10:22):
not deserve this year to year scrutiny. I mean, the
man's done nothing but make the World Series and make
the playoffs every year, win the World Series a year ago.
He in my mind, has earned the right to have
a longer term contract and less uncertainty surrounding him. But guys,
I don't know. We have to prepare ourselves for if
(10:45):
it doesn't go the Astros way in the next five games.
Are we going to enter an off season in which
there's talk about is this Dusty's last year? So a
lot of conversations, a lot of things at stake right
now for the Astros, and they do love their manager
and I expect them to play for him in a
big way in Texas now that the series is shifted
(11:05):
to the Rangers beautiful new Ballpark and they'll.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Be network inside of John Paul Morosi with us from Philadelphia,
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon live from the Tyreck Dot com Studios.
All right, now you mentioned off season what could be next?
Andrew Friedman, Dodgers made the big statement today. Dave Roberts
will be back as manager. Clayton Kershaw will be back
as long as he wants to come back next year.
If I said to you, finish the sentence next year
(11:30):
to get further, the Dodgers need to blank, what would
you tell me? What would you tell me the Dodgers
need to do for next season?
Speaker 6 (11:37):
Did you give him three pages to write on?
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Yeah, that's a great question. They really need to address
their pitching. And again, this is where we've talked about
Otani with them for a long time, and I'm sure
we will in our off season conversations too, but he's
not going to fix their rotation in twenty twenty four.
They need more certainty and obviously the Walker Bueler coming
(12:01):
back is going to be crucial, and they certainly will
hope to get some impact from Dustin May during the
course of the year and maybe even Consolin as well.
But they need to sign for me two starting pitchers,
and I would not include Otani in that like he
would not satisfy that need because they can't pitch next year.
(12:24):
So that's what they've got to do. They need to
sign two legitimate starting pitchers. One of them could be Kershaw.
I would grant you that because went healthy, he's still
one of the better pitchers in baseball. But they need
some guys that can soak up some innings because the
approach they took this season just didn't work, especially once
(12:46):
Urrias was no longer an option, and the younger guys
just didn't have enough links to them in the playoffs.
So two starting pitchers. Kershaw can to be one, but
you need at least one more legit, high end starting
pitcher for me to feel confident in their ability to
advance further in the postseason.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Check them out on Twitter at John Morosi, that is
at John Morosi MLB Network Insider Live from Philadelphia. Jpee
will talk tomorrow night, we'll talk Alcs, and we'll get
your once again, your fearless Lions prediction. Yeah, because you
have just been red hot with the line. I think
they're in first place because of you, JP.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
I think they are too. And there was even some
thought just talking to the Philadelphia media here, they were saying, hey,
maybe a Lions Eagles playoff game I said, wow, we
haven't seen that since the days of Scott and Mitchell
and Herman Moore.
Speaker 6 (13:40):
Ja we were talking before.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
I mean Smith's now campaigning for Jared Goffers MVP. We're
getting the merch printed tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Get it going, baby. I'm telling you I am all
in the lions now, I really am.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
I'll tell you that that could be your topic on
Starsey and the Pope on your morning show tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
And see what's going on in the managerial sir, Yes,
all right, have.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
That ready for tomorrow. J people talk to you, then
tell you about it. It goes. John Paul Morosi, Yes,
I gotta call David Stearns.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Yeah, let me know.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
JP, who's our manager going to be?
Speaker 6 (14:16):
We're gonna text him all night, aren't you?
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Well now, because I feel like I have a pipeline
to David Sterns, I mean John Paul Morosi, David Stearns
classmates in college and now David Stearns running the Mets,
John paulmer ROSI Sternsey in the Pope their morning show,
I could be I could be in on the Mets moves, Mike.
I mean we are on some cherry I could be
on trades for the Yankes.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
Jerry. We also created the radio show for them. Yeah
that's sure, Yeah, that's that's in the pope.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
But the other is I fear the next time he
comes into the studio that you don't perhaps club him
over the head and steal his phone and you're you're
pressing all his fingers in trying to get the ID.
So you get Sternsey's number directly, He's gonna you can
cut out the middle man. He's gonna send me sterns
He's number. Anyway, there's a time where I need to
just communicate right.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Him and listen. Sometimes jpl'll go through. Sometimes I gotta
go right to David Stern's. I just have to go
right to him. It's gonna go hey, listen, I'll tell
you you're a lunaticous Hey, hey Sterns, he Hols. Let
me know who do you got to the top of
your list?
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Manager wise? I'll tell you guys that Nope, go ahead,
help me exim right off.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific Philly.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
Longer Philly longer Philly Longer into the world.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
The Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmon, live from the tire rag dot
Com Studios. Jason, I got a hot food take for you.
You have a hot food take. Okay, my pulse is
racing from this song. I can't wait to hear what
do you got of a pulse? So the chiros from
(15:53):
Disneyland not that good?
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Ooh, okay, that's a pretty hot take. I enjoyed the
churros from Disney I had them recently.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
Was I enjoyed the begnets more from the place in
downtown Disney.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Was it still there? I don't know if it's there anymore?
It yeah, might not anymore. It's too bad.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
I'll have to ship in a box of the Cafe
Dumont mixed though. Who's good. You can make those at home.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
See, I see, I've had so many churos now that
I'm like a big fan of. When give me something different,
like the caramel churos or the chocolate or something in
the churro, Oh, that's so good.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
That's see.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
Then I know if Tyser doesn't know how to respond
the way you just said that you do it just
like you're constantly consuming CHROs.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
No, I mean but no.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
But being in La now for you know, since the
mid nineteen nineties, and you know, certain foods that I've
had that I've ever had before, and I'd be like, churros.
I've never had a churro, and I'm like, oh my god,
churros are really good. Now you get churros, strawberry chiros,
raspberry churros, rod shrimp.
Speaker 6 (16:51):
I'll send you the recipe I have for CROs toumbo shrimp.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
And when now that you have churros that are stuffed
with stuff, that's better because then I guess you can
kind of feel like a churro is stuff with something.
If you get one that's not really cooked all the way,
Oh what's inside it?
Speaker 4 (17:05):
Now?
Speaker 3 (17:06):
It's just not cooked. It's this raw dough tastes fantastic.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
This row.
Speaker 6 (17:11):
Do we get you through? Oh though, Joey, you know,
get you I'm sure I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Tyscher will sit here and say, Jason, you know the
beneficiaries of eating raw dough is immense. Like you you'll
you'll live to be one hundred and twenty five years.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
Oh, the beneficiaries will definitely cash out if you're eating
rod dough when.
Speaker 7 (17:24):
It's your birthday. Did they get you a funnel cake?
And the candles are like churros? Oh, chur candles churro? Wait,
not turrol flavored candles. Candle flavored churl.
Speaker 6 (17:35):
The funnel cake went right over his head.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Yeah, no, no, no, but you got me thinking enough that
I could have a cake with a churro with a
candle like lit at the top of it. That's see,
that's idn't say anything about fire, but that's what I'm
thinking of.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
That I issued the cake. I just had a bunch
of coconut with you said. You said one thing, and
I jumped to another.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
I jumped to the next that you gave you get
it's a matt that we jump to conclude.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
You want a.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
Crazy story out of the NFL and NFL and college football?
Really Pro Football Talk has picked up this story, but
a bunch of other blogs had it, and apparently, according
to sources, Caleb Williams, who likely is going to be
the number one overall pick in the NFL draft.
Speaker 5 (18:16):
I mean, I don't know, if you come on. Everybody's
tanking for Caleb Williams. Blah, blah blah blah. Your team
may just suck. What do you Dracula for Caleb Williams
blah blah blah blah. I mean I did see a
commercial for Renfields, so I mean Dracula with an engage.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
I do not say blah blah blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
I don't know how many games he can have like
he had against Notre David a number one pick, not
good blah blah blah. But Caleb, according to sources, would
like a piece of ownership of the team that drafts
him this year.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Good for him. See the story it's on Pro Football.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Talking about car ownership of Fox Sports. How much do
you want to bet? How much do you want to bet? Okay, Well,
first of all, for the story to get out here
is kind of bad timing. I don't think you want
that story to get out after the stinker you put
up against Notre Dame, which tells me that And I
don't know anything, but this tells me that this story
was planted out there by Caleb's people last week, saying
(19:19):
hold onto this until after the Notre Dame game, or
percolating a while, and you can go with it.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Right, yep.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
After that, but now they lose a Notre Dame. He's terrible.
He throws three picks in the first half, and the
sources are like, we got we gotta run here. Yeah, yeah,
go ahead, run it. How much do you want to bet?
How much you want to bet? Caleb Williams or whoever
he's got around him, they just watched air and they said, hey,
Michael Jordan.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Held out, it's a good model. Oh hey, Viola Davis
held out.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
I'm gonna get Viola Davis to do my negotiating shel
uh and and we're gonna go and that's what we're
gonna do.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
That.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Michael Jordan held out for a piece of Nike and
he's signed there. He's also in charge of the suicide squad,
so she knows some things. I mean, how about you,
let's try it with a Let's try to get you
an ownership of a team.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
But it's like anything, right, It's like asking out the
pretty girl or you know, guy, or whatever the case
may be, and just saying.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
If you don't take your shot.
Speaker 6 (20:21):
You never know right.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
You gotta ask me right when it comes time for contracts,
I'm asking for the moon. I get told in no
uncertain terms that I can see the other side of
the door real fast, but I gotta ask.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
This is no.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
But there's a difference between conjunction, junction and all of
those things. See, there's a like going number one in
the draft is asking out the pretty girl, right, And
then what Caleb Williams might allegedly want with this is that, Hey,
I'm not only gonna ask out the pretty girl, but
I know she's your girlfriend, and I'm gonna I'm gonna
borrow your car. I'm I'm stealing your girlfriend, would he
(20:55):
And I'm gonna use your carn me from Cheers all
those you would you like the cucumber brust slightly? There's
no way this happens, all right. First of all, this
is tried to a couple of people have tried this before.
You saw the NFL say no to Tom Brady and
the whole rumor that came out that he was gonna
buy they wanted to be owner of the Dolphins and
play in the NFL. Wasn't gonna okay, it and the
(21:16):
same thing. Aaron Rodgers was looking for ownership stakes as
well in the NFL, said no, because the NFL needs
you need three quarters of the owners to say it's okay.
There are zero owners who are gonna say it's okay
for a player to own part of a team. And
I don't blame owners. Wait, this is my team. You
don't okay, Yes, you're a great player, but I'll draft
(21:37):
somebody else. I mean, that's really what it's gonna come down.
Speaker 5 (21:39):
Anywhere where there's multiple owners right fractional, they're trying to
force the other guys out there.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
So there's no owner that is gonna sit down and say, boy,
it's gonna take Caleb Williams giving him me, giving him
an ownership stake in the team.
Speaker 6 (21:55):
I'm gonna give him all these millions.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
And I know some of the argument folks are making
around them, and I guess your your mind would go,
you're not getting that novelty check that you did once
upon a time, or you're walking in with two hundred
million dollars, like you know, we go back to those
days long long ago when we'd have guys upon arriving
(22:17):
into the NFL, and that's what Sam Bradford was the
last Bradford was the last guy who was twenty eleven
or whatever that was. But back in back in the day,
it was that big fight. So I think to some
degree Folcus saying, well, you're not getting that level of
cash off the jump, so here's your way to kind
of wrangle that kind of money, especially when you're being
(22:40):
counted on to become the savior in a lot of
cases of these franchise.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Even if it's a small part, there's no owner that's
gonna sit down at the table and say, all right,
we can draft Caleb Williams, but he wants part of
the team. So a player who may or may not
be part of my team in.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
A few years, it might not be any good.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Maybe he's great, maybe he's not.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
But his generational he's.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
Gonna pull this power and I'm gonna give him part
of my fortune to come play. I'm not gonna do it,
No chance in hell, I'm not gonna do it. I'll
give him a percentage of the hot dog sales and
I'm not gonna happen. It's just it's just not unless
it's unless unless uh Kayleb Williams says well, I'll take
that instead of a salary.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
But then the NFL is gonna say we're not gonna
do that either.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
No one's going on, but it does. It completely changes
the rules of engagement. Like the CBA has to be
ripped up. If you just start opening the door to this.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
This is yeah, this would have to be done by
a vote by owner, and there's no way it's gonna it's.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
According to the athletic and everybody, it's three quarters vote.
Nobody's given up that kind of cash if I would,
And what players give it up? Two hundred million dollars
or whatever that amount would be to say, all right,
I'm gonna get this percentage. Now it's constantly growing. And
we see the balloon and you saw the new deal
Roger Goodell signed. Yeah, congratulations, Roger looks out there. But
(24:01):
but no owner is gonna give a player part of
what his fortune is just just to come play. They'll say,
i'll get another quarterback. I'll draft Drake May you know,
I'll drive I'll draft Quinn yours. I'd love to have you,
but I'm not I'm not giving I'm.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Giving you that. They'll give.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
They'll give guys guaranteed contracts across the board before they
say I'm gonna give you part ownership of it.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
And even then we've seen a handful. Right, the king
of all of this is Kirk Cousins, who's been able
to do it multiple times and might be staring at
another one before it's all said and done. But even
getting to that, you're snowball's chance in hell that you're
getting a full roster of guaranteed salaries before before you
get anywhere near this.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, Liffromthtyreck dot Com Studios. I wonder
and I'm hoping that this is Look, this is Caleb
Williams and whoever is advising him as saying, Okay, you're
not just a number one overall pick. You are a
generational quarterback in the first generational guy since Trevor Lawrence,
who is the first generational guy since Andrew Luck.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
And not all number one picks are created equally, right.
There's some number one picks where boy, we'd love to
have the number one pick this year, and then there's
years you have the number one pick where you go,
I want to trade down because I'm not gonna take
in the stretch of tackle number one.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
I don't want to do that.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
I'll take a quarterback number one. So he's much he's
a much bigger number one overall.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Pick I get it.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
And if this is just a way to say, hey,
let's see what we can get, let's try to flex
our muscle, we have leverage right now. We can always
go back to school if you want to. Not that
he would, but it can always say I'm not gonna
play for your team like Eli Manning, or I'll go back.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
To school for if that's the other story that was
out there, right, because he's making enough off nil that
it would be worth it maybe to not be a bear.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Yeah, and Lincoln Riley's saying, please come back one more year. Man,
people are really pissed we lost this game to note,
youre dame. Can you come back for one more year?
Maybe win the other games? So if the case for
him is that that we're pushing the envelope, all right.
But if they're saying that this is if this is
gonna be like a deal breaker or something else, No,
that's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Test balloon.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Okay, sure we're not gonna make your ask. We'll get
something else. And we'll see what else is out there.
But we want people to know that Caleb Williams is
a special guy and he's not just coming to the
NFL signing as a number one overall pick and getting
ready to go play. No, we want more than that
from him, because we don't know the next time we're
gonna have leverage for a deal. Once you sign now
you're coming to number one pick. You know what kind
(26:24):
of money you're getting. You know they could be a
little bit creative with your deal, but you know what
you're doing. When do you have leverage? You have leverage now,
so to figure out how to use it, that's great.
And if this is figuring out how to use it, awesome.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
If this is.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Something where no, no, no, we've seen it, forget it.
This is not gonna go I.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
Mean, you throw the test balloon up and this will
get rejected, but it might spark other conversations and where
you can monetize other pieces. Right, We've talked a lot
about Jersey sales as related to Travis Kelcey's swift He's
coming on board and the fact that you get two
thirds of the money from Jersey sales. Okay, what about
T shirts? What about the you know, cartoon t shirts?
(27:02):
What are the sales of those? Can I have my
own little pop up to where I'm selling my own
merch and autographs and whatever wherever where you're trying to
make up money. Now that's peanuts compared to ownership. But
it's a bridge that you have to start the walk
beyond from where we are with normal contracts to the
Pie and the Sky ownership. I mean, I like the
(27:23):
bravado of it, whether it's his dad or his brain child,
or is whoever he's working with on the nil side
of things, to just float it out and get a
conversation started. But tell me, I don't want a microphone
in Jerry Jones's face right now. Tell me I don't
want to go and talk to some of the owners
who are quick with a are.
Speaker 6 (27:41):
You getting me?
Speaker 1 (27:42):
You see Jerry Jones saying very happy to sign over
part of this team to Caleb. I talked to Steven
and Jerry Junior. They understand that they're getting cut out.
But now we have Caleb and we have Dak, so
it's gonna be between the two of them.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
We're going with the Super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (27:59):
I told him I couldn't give him a piece now,
but he's now made one of the beneficiaries.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
And now I'm also giving a piece of the team
to Tony Romo. Tony's getting a little bit of He's
got some of it Troy. I gotta give some of
that to Troy too, So I'm just basically just breaking up.
It's kind of like that the TV show The Succession,
and I'm just just trying to figure out who to
send it all to.
