Speaker 2 (00:22):
Please give this you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
No Jason Smith tonight.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
Hi, I'm Mike Carmon our four getting started to Jason
Smith Show with me Mike Carmon live from the tire
Raq dot com studios tire rac dot com. We'll help
you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free
road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers tirerac
dot com. The way tire buying should be. In his stead,

(00:53):
the Yoked product of Penn State. You hear him on
the weekends part of Countdown to Kickoff on Saturday, Red
Zone Radio on Sunday mornings on seven sixty down in
San Diego. It's our guy, Rich Ornberger at Ornberger on Twitter.

Speaker 5 (01:09):
How you doing, brother, doing good? Doing good, hanging in
there for the final turn. I love the fourth quarter.

Speaker 6 (01:16):
Always was a strong finisher. Take that wherever you want.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Well, you know we are in safe harbor, so yeah,
you can do that.

Speaker 6 (01:27):
We're there.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
You know, there was a quote there, There's a quote
I wanted to read to you because it is all
about being relentless. I read referenced Schwarzenegger before. But a
guy named well Tyson Bagent will be your quarterback for
the Bears this week and perhaps for weeks to come
because of the injury sustained by Justin Fields trying to
brace himself heading to the turf, and he may need

(01:52):
thumb surgery. Still waiting on the swelling and everything to
go down to make that final determination. So likely you
see Bagent against either Aidan O'Connell or Brian Hoyer this week, yay,
And then he might be here when I go watch
the Bears take on the Chargers in Week eight, a

(02:13):
game which I'm still hoping stays as a Sunday night
football game. But that's a whole other story for another time.
But here's a here's a question and answer with Bagent
from from earlier Rich that I thought you would appreciate
on the road to Swool. What if this NFL quarterbacking
thing hadn't panned out.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
What was the plan?

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Be quote Yeah, I was gonna basically just CrossFit my
life away, get as ripped and jacked as I possibly could,
and be a teacher at Martinsburg High School.

Speaker 6 (02:44):
I love this guy. I love him. I'm not kidding.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
Everything I've heard about him, everything I've heard from him,
makes me love him. Now does it mean that he's
gonna be worth a damn in the NFL? The answer
is most finely not. It doesn't rule it out that
he could be worth the damn that NFL. As a
matter of fact, you know, there are many in the
Bay Area who are singing the praise as a brock

(03:11):
Purty the savior because after two starting quarterbacks went down
for the San Francisco forty nine ers, number thirteen stepped
into the limelight and he could handle it.

Speaker 6 (03:22):
So is it possible? Is it possible.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
In Chicago that the very recent history that the San
Francisco forty nine ers enjoyed could repeat itself. This is
a much worse roster, I think from a coaching standpoint,
Kyle Shanahan runs circles around Matt Eberfluse. Having said all

(03:47):
that we know what happens sometimes when a special quarterback
gets an opportunity and they make the most of it.

Speaker 6 (03:57):
I have no idea, nor do you, nor does.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
Any anybody know what Tyson Beaigent has offered the NFL.
But I'm glad he's getting a shot. He sounds the part.

Speaker 6 (04:08):
We'll see if he can.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Look the part, you know, and that's just it, right.
We talked to and we break down a lot of it.
Micah Parsons. You've all heard the clip over the last
twenty four hours. So many players the lamentation of what
former players have said or are really deciding that now
is the time to really get after everybody on social
media that have their first initial and like ninety seven

(04:32):
numbers behind it. Whatever gets you through, wherever you find
your motivation. I'm not going to tell you how to live.
But when we get Beigent up at the podium and
he had his first cup of coffee. This last week
had an interception where you know, look it was the
pop gun arm thing that there was nothing behind it, right,

(04:53):
just one of those moon balls that DJ Moore tried
to make a runback for, but very easy interception. More autumn,
a completion on a ball that if he'd gotten it
out a tick earlier, because it's all timing right when
you're first getting your first reps rich, you know, determining
what your offensive line is going to be able to do,
your first pass rushes.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
And all of those things.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
You come into a game fresh out of shepherd University
there in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and trying to make yourself
some plays. But everybody in the locker room's talked about
him pretty pretty well, and when he's been at the podium,
he's a guy thankful first chances, a little bit of
levity there about getting jacked up and becoming a teacher

(05:37):
and all of that stuff. But he's a guy that
at least in the moment, answering questions from the Chicago media.
And look, they've been relentless on guys. And everybody's favorite
player is the backup quarterback until he has to play,
so he no longer gets that tag because he had
to play this last week, so he doesn't get the
kid gloves coming out, And he answered all the questions well,

(05:59):
the X expectations, uh, and the the happiness and elation
to get this opportunity and to make the most of it. Yeah,
I'm completely with it. DJ Moore was asked, how do
you describe Tyson Beagen's playing style quote, I don't know.
I haven't played with him enough. My guess is Beijing style.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
Here, Beijing I here, here's the deal I've heard. Now,
I didn't hear that clip or or or hear that
quote until you just read it. But reacting in real time,
you know, hearing how Cole Kmet spoke about him, because
I saw him appear on a podcast and uh, and

(06:41):
the words that he shared. Look, if there's one thing
Beigent isn't lacking in is moxie and authority in the huddle.
Apparently when fields went down and he came running in
from the sideline and huddled, huddled the guys up, he
knew he was doing. He got control of the huddle quickly,

(07:04):
and he did some things. I mean, he's gonna let
it rip a little bit there, you know. And and
actually comment he uh.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
Did you see the push? He could see it, the
push into the end zone.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
Good for him, And he commented on the throat to
Tyler Scott and you know, I mean he did some
good things. Now, like you said, there's an interception, and
it's a very, very teeny tiny sample size, So we
have no idea what this is going to look like.
We have no idea what it's going to look like.
But but I I anybody who's going to sit here

(07:38):
today and think they know what the the Chicago Bears
quarterback situation is going to look like, say week ten,
week week fourteen at the end of the season, they're clueless,
because I mean the same way people were probably rolling
their eyes when mister irrelevant to the huddle with the

(08:00):
forty nine ers. You can feel it, there's going to
be nobody's gonna think that he's gonna be worth the.

Speaker 6 (08:06):
Damn until he proves that he is. That's how people
were thinking about c J.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
Stroud, a second overall pick sure in this year's draft,
but because what he failed the wonder lick. This is
a guy who played at one of the top universities
in the entire country.

Speaker 6 (08:21):
He had success upon success, and people were doubting him
at the next level, which I get.

Speaker 5 (08:27):
I'm not even blaming anybody because it's a hard league
to have success in.

Speaker 6 (08:32):
But guess what, c J.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
Stroud somehow has navigated the Texans who have zero talent
around him.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
He's making guys look.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
Better around him to a three and three record this
year despite of the circumstances. Let's see what Baijin has
before we all just right off the season as a
complete disaster or write him off as a potential candidate,
because look, I played with a guy from Chadron State
by the name of Danny Woodhead who was also a
Harlan Hill not a candidate, and and Harlan Hill Award winner,

(09:03):
which is the heisman.

Speaker 6 (09:04):
At that level.

Speaker 5 (09:05):
Right, He ended up having a pretty nice career I
think ten or twelve years in the league. He bounced
around a little bit, but wherever he played, he was impactful. Well,
see if Tyler Beagen has some or Tyson Beajen has
some game.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Yeah, it's the curiosity. But you know, to go back
to CJ. Stroud tie them together. If you're with Houston
or you're with Chicago, Uh, you got the poison pens
are already there, expecting things to be a slow go
based on organizational instability and a lot of history of
bad examples and opportunities and failures at those positions.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Yes, mister Frostper, what do you got for me?

Speaker 7 (09:44):
If Tyson Beagen starts on Sunday against the Raiders. He
will become the bears twenty ninth starting QB since two thousand.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Wow, yeah, I would have I would have put it
into the thirties. So there you go, twenty nine big younger. Yeah, yeah,
the un hit Yeah, good good times. But I you know,
speaking of you know, high points for the Bear since
those twenty nine quarterbacks. It is Ditka's birthday, so happy birthday, Ditka.
And yesterday was Steve McMichael's birthday, who continues to battle

(10:17):
finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It's all
about me and my world. I gotta find some positivity
when the team stinks. Rich and one thing, you know,
a team you played for right now wearing it a
bit after two decades, and I think it ties to
baseball a little because we'll talk about the Alcs and
what we watched tonight coming up in about ten minutes here.
But for the Patriots folks having a little bit of

(10:42):
fun at the expense trying to chop down the career
of one Bill Belichick. If I gave you the well
the Commissioner's tag for this one, you were the exalted
ruler of all things in patriot Land. How do you
fix this? What do you do?

Speaker 6 (10:59):
Well? The fix?

Speaker 5 (11:01):
Really, the fix really was years ago. Let's rewind the
clock back to twenty nineteen, the offseason where Tom Brady
stepped away from the Patriots. The reason why he stepped
away from the Patriots had nothing to do with money
or an insulting contract, because Tom Brady almost almost definitely

(11:22):
would have played for less than the market said he
was worth. But Bill Belichick wanted him out. And I
think it was a prideful decision. I think it was
an enormous mistake. I think it'll go down as the
biggest blunder of his career, allowing the greatest football player
to ever walk planet Earth to leave his program and

(11:42):
go win a Super Bowl with someone else. It just
was the wrong decision. And I know it's the Belichick way.
I know it's very machia vellen. He'd rather a pro,
even the most successful pro he's ever coached, go get
get old fat and retire on someone else's roster, even

(12:05):
if they have some good years left in him, then
do so on his roster.

Speaker 6 (12:11):
But it was a prideful move.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
It was the wrong move and so now they're in
a mess because he made that decision right now, right now.
If I was Bill Belichick, or if I could waive
my magic wand to fix this problem in New England,
I would probably bench mac Jones. I would probably start

(12:34):
holding basically open tryouts at the quarterback position. I would
start really testing the depth of my roster. I would
pitch to the owner of the football team, Robert Craft,
that we're going into a complete rebuild. I would make
a promise that if he's willing to stick by me
as a head coach, that I will get them back

(12:56):
to my winning ways. But it's going to take another
year too. And and this we we truly have to
hit that ejector button, and we we we have to
get worse before we get better. That would be the
best way to sell the future. Now, again, what you're
gonna tell the public, what you're gonna tell the media

(13:16):
is a completely different story, because you can't admit to
virtually any of what I just said. But but I
really do, honestly think their only path full forward is
by kind of going flushing this season down the tubes
and restarting.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
But you bought you bought them out Rich do you
bring in a shadow GM. I mean, because at this point,
you know he's done I think an okay to coaching
job with what's on the field. Problem is he's the
guy that put it on the field.

Speaker 6 (13:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (13:44):
I mean, but let's let's face it, as long as
Bill Belichick is coaching this football team, we all know
that it's just operation human Shield whoever he puts in
that place. I mean, and there have been kind of
shadow gms along the way. Nick Case was one of
them for a long time before he took the gig
in Houston. You know, there have been these these I

(14:08):
don't want to call them puppets because I think, more
so than anybody cares to believe, Bill Belichick does listen
to advice. He does listen to his assistant coaches, he
does listen to his pro personnel directors. I don't know, man,
but I think this is a tough pill to swallow.
But I think the Patriots have to get worse before

(14:28):
they get better.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
I will say that local cable show that he does
when he breaks down key plays or whatever, might be
the best football talk you see each and every week.
Even if you don't like his press conferences, He's rich
Orenberger in for Jason Smith. I'm Mike Carmen. The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon rolls on talking to alcs
and what do you do.

Speaker 6 (14:47):
When the baby is due?

Speaker 3 (16:01):
The club is now open.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
Yeah, Dancing Ornberger dud as it begins.

Speaker 5 (16:09):
Man, I missed a wedding this weekend because I was
in Hawaii.

Speaker 6 (16:14):
I know it sounds like I know how that sounds.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
There you go, It's Rich Ornberger and for Jason Smith,
I'm Mike Carmen.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
Welcome in to that.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
You know I had to miss a wedding because it
was in Hawaii.

Speaker 5 (16:27):
I listen, so I was calling the college football game
in o Wahu, all right.

Speaker 6 (16:32):
And and don't get me wrong, there there are two.
If there's two.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
Things I love, it's college football and the Hawaiian Islands.

Speaker 6 (16:40):
And when you smash them together.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Their wife and your wife, don't forget the third thing
you love.

Speaker 6 (16:45):
Right, You know what? I thank you.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
I come in threes. I come in threes there, brother.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
I thank you she's on the list. I won't tell
you in which order. Hey, now, the the Hawaian Islands,
there's an energy, it's special.

Speaker 6 (16:59):
There's there's I don't know if you've ever been.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
You know, yes, it would be news to me.

Speaker 5 (17:05):
You get it, you get well, okay, then you gotta go.
I'm telling you, got to go. It's just a different, different,
different place.

Speaker 6 (17:11):
College football.

Speaker 5 (17:12):
I love the purity even with like the nil and
the transfer portal, that feels like open free agency every
single year you have no idea what the roster is
going to look like. It still feels it passes a
purity test that isn't available at the NFL level.

Speaker 6 (17:27):
Okay, love those two things.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
But if there is something that I love more than
maybe both of those things, it is going to a wedding.

Speaker 6 (17:38):
It is the cocktail hour.

Speaker 5 (17:41):
It is the long sit while you're going through you
know whatever. It is the first the first dance, the
groom and and and you know, the groom's mom dances
with the groom, and the and the father of the bride,
and the speeches and the toasts and the get me
on that dance floor and and I mean, I am dude,

(18:05):
I'm three drinks deep, maybe four, and maybe I'm gonna
switch to a Shirley Temple at some point. No, you're not,
but I'm cutting loose. I love dancing out.

Speaker 8 (18:15):
Well, do you bring the flamethrower to the weddings or no?

Speaker 5 (18:17):
I honestly, it's now one of those gifts that I
suggest everybody puts on their registry, and if they don't,
I'm giving. I'm getting You're you're leaving with a flamethrower.
There's no question about it. If you are the married couple,
you're Every household should start with a flamethrowers only way.

Speaker 7 (18:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
I used to be about the cash, and then I
got older and I'm like, no, it's too easy. I'm
gonna make you at least go return something for Stork.

Speaker 6 (18:40):
I completely agree with you.

Speaker 5 (18:42):
I've been known, I mean to really and again, since
we're reaching out to the Witching Hours now, I've been
I've been known to give some inappropriate wedding gifts.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
Oh that's good.

Speaker 6 (18:50):
Yeah, the kind that.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
You can't really return and and I it's it's that's
my pleasure.

Speaker 6 (18:57):
Honestly.

Speaker 8 (18:58):
Have you ever crashed a wedding? I?

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Yeah, several, several you had any doubts.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
I mean never, I mean, dude, I mean from justin
as he asked a question, I'm like, oh it was
I thought, no, no, no, that was the I lobbed
it up. Now hammer home, U the best wedding that
you crashed?

Speaker 5 (19:15):
Okay, I will. It was an Indian wedding. The food
was spectacular. Bet I was leaving another wedding, but this
wedding was still raging, and I was just like, you
know what, I'm gonna stay behind. And Wifey was with
me like she knew the score, she knew exactly what
I was doing. I was like, I'm gonna go in

(19:36):
there and just cut a rug real quick. You coming
with And she was like, I'm going to my room
and going to sleep. And I'm like, all right, well
see you in the morning. She tapped out, Oh, but
this is the story of our life. She wants to
leave every party when I think it's just starting to
get good. And so buddy, I hit the I mean,
I don't even know what I was doing out there.

(19:56):
They were playing different kind of Eastern music and I
was just ta the dance floor apart. Nobody spoke English,
and I had the best time of my life.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
That is fantastic. Yeah, good for you.

Speaker 4 (20:09):
Now let me ask you this question of down distance
and philosophy. And we've been talking a lot about coaching
and what you need to do as a leader of
men and calming any dissent and discord.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
But then obviously sometimes.

Speaker 6 (20:30):
You gotta crash your wedding.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
Well you could crash your wedding, or you have to
make considerations because maybe there's babies on the way.

Speaker 6 (20:38):
My wife's doing great.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
I think there was a lot made about me missing
a game.

Speaker 8 (20:40):
I'm not gonna miss a game.

Speaker 6 (20:41):
My son knows better than to come during a game.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
Hey go, Sean mcmay. My son knows better than the
come during the game. And that's that's gonna be. I mean,
it's certainly one of those things here now with with
leave and everything, that's so much different than it was
when we were kids, right, I mean, you can take
weeks off and whatever, but still if it's in the
middle of a football season.

Speaker 8 (21:02):
But this is his first kid.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
Yeah no, And that's the thing, right, it's his first child,
and we're.

Speaker 7 (21:07):
All downs here. He's gotta be bsing around. There's no
way you missed that right right right now?

Speaker 3 (21:11):
He gets defeated.

Speaker 6 (21:12):
Well, well listen, listen.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
I I'm I'm with you when it came to the
kids and and you know.

Speaker 8 (21:20):
And if they were good, it'd be one thing.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
Yeah, yeah, well that's also true that like, let's all,
let's all like pump the brakes for there three and three,
right right, the Rams are most likely not winning the
Super Bowl this year.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
Come on there, three and three.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
Although Kyrin Williams is now out to a week eleven,
go adjust your fantasy lineups accordingly.

Speaker 5 (21:40):
Yeah, yeah, no, kidd in gosh, I mean, I I
mean I was, I was bummed I couldn't get him
as a sleeper off the waiver wire.

Speaker 6 (21:46):
And now I'm not. I'm not too uh not too
upset about it.

Speaker 5 (21:49):
But but yeah, listen, if you're it, it all depends.

Speaker 6 (21:54):
Like let's put it this way.

Speaker 5 (21:57):
If if I'm going to start in a Super Bowl,
I'll catch up with y'all later. I mean, that's the
real that's the real, the real dirt. And I'm pretty
sure I'm pretty sure a playoff game would take precedent also.

Speaker 8 (22:14):
But not a regular season but I mean, yeah, well.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
You played in the league for years. Yeah, and even
going back to your collegiate career. I'm sure more than
one guy in the locker room had this circumstance place
he came.

Speaker 5 (22:25):
Up, it came up. Yeah, regular season is one thing.
It's it's completely different animal when you get to the postseason.
So I think Sean McVay was probably a little bit.
I'll talk if the if the kid was going to
be delivered before the game, he would he would tell
the boys, Hey, let me know how they let me
know how this one goes.

Speaker 6 (22:43):
You know, don't tell me the ending until I get home.
You know, I'm taping it on DVR.

Speaker 7 (22:47):
And if it's his second or third kid, it's not
even a question. Of course you're go into the game.
It's his first.

Speaker 6 (22:52):
Yeah, it's his first.

Speaker 4 (22:53):
You start getting into how far along is she inducing? Yeah,
all of those things. I mean, it's it's the reverse.
Is there a way to just, you know, kind of
keeping across the thing. I don't think works. I don't
think there's a medical term for that one.

Speaker 6 (23:09):
There is now crossing your legs.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Think about baseball, I know, I don't.

Speaker 5 (23:16):
Yeah, yeah, go Harmon, go go through the nineteen fifties
Yankees lineup here, you go.

Speaker 6 (23:21):
It a couple of times.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
I'm gonna sort some training cards.

Speaker 6 (23:24):
Take take take a cold shower.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
Watch watch this old episode of matt Lock, think about
something else, try to solve the mystery.

Speaker 6 (23:32):
We don't know. We don't know.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
It's all certain sorts of things that you can do there.

Speaker 6 (23:36):
That's it.

Speaker 5 (23:37):
But it is all beautiful mystery. But but to your point,
I I don't. I don't think there's any way he
misses the kid being born unless it's the postseason, or
unless it's a crucial and I mean crucial late season
game where they've got to have it to gain entry
to the postseason. Then everything changes, Then priorities changes, uh,

(23:58):
and then and then honestly have a story to tell,
you know. I think depending on which way things turn
out in terms of, you know, the interest in sport
the kid may have growing up, if dad was coaching
the Los Angeles Rams instead of being bedside with your mom,
I think you may learn to forgive them at some point,
you know, and maybe.

Speaker 8 (24:19):
Miss mcgeah, But does mom forgive right?

Speaker 5 (24:21):
I was gonna say the Miss McVeigh gets gets a
person a new car and probably upgrade on that engagement, right, Well.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
And whatever it's gonna take right good, you know, any
any number of things, and just a lot of sonnets
and stuff, maybe late at heer feet.

Speaker 5 (24:38):
And by the way, those playoff bonuses are pretty.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
Nice, pretty good. Yeah, there's no question about that.

Speaker 8 (24:46):
But it's the Rams. They're not going to the playoffs
right right.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
The next three games home against Pittsburgh, on the road,
at Dallas, on the road at green Bay ahead of
the bye.

Speaker 6 (24:55):
Week, winnable, winnable, winnable.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
Then you look at after the bye week, because this
is now a fun ex size uh Seattle at home
on the road in Arizona, winnable versus Cleveland.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
Who winnable the toughest that you tough?

Speaker 8 (25:11):
Yeah, I just got them running the table.

Speaker 5 (25:14):
Okay, listen, I'm we're talking about eleven and.

Speaker 6 (25:17):
Three Rams team.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Maybe that's just it now, all of a sudden, the
math has changed.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
They're ten and three at Baltimore, right, Okay, maybe that's
their first love.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
Maybe I don't know that's week fourteen, because that would
mean Lamar Jackson's uh games played hits the over if
he's still available there.

Speaker 6 (25:34):
Ten and four. You're telling me the Rams don't make
it in at ten and four.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
And then you've got a home date against Washington.

Speaker 6 (25:40):
Wow, winnable.

Speaker 4 (25:41):
And then you've got New Orleans coming to town and
they're no good. Jeez, it's paint drying. Then you're on
the road at the Giants. By then they've already packed
up shop.

Speaker 9 (25:49):
They're in can't coon you like could be then I
can't believe it, but the Los Angeles Rams are are
going to be a twelve win team in twenty twenty three.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
And then you're on the road at San Francisco and
Brock Purty.

Speaker 5 (26:04):
Offensive player of the Year back, he's Stafford, buy him
the gold jacket. Holy smokes, Miss McVeigh, sean's gonna be late.

Speaker 8 (26:13):
You better get in your car right now. Rich and
had the Vegas.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
It's gonna be a lot of bonuses. But I mean,
you know, we laugh about it, but a lot of
those are winnable games.

Speaker 6 (26:22):
Listen, I'm racing to the window right now. You've made a.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
Believe you look at what the over under is on
their wind total right now.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
I'm looking at I'm heading to Vegas inside.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
Whatever Krakenberger has that monster's screen with those thirty seven
different scenario.

Speaker 6 (26:37):
Dude, that guy's a sick Oh and I love him.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
He's a genius. To him, Bill crack and our guy
Jared Smith as well.

Speaker 5 (26:45):
Yeah oh no, no, yeah, absolutely, both of them be
betting analysts. But Jared Smith he admits it. He's like, look,
I'm a betting analyst. What Bill Krackenberger is is a
professional better. And the difference is he derives his fortune
for good or bad off of his gambling picks.

Speaker 6 (27:04):
That's it.

Speaker 5 (27:05):
If he has a great season betting against the spread,
then he has a great take home. If he doesn't,
then he doesn't, So.

Speaker 8 (27:12):
Then you should give him your tip on the rams here, Rich.

Speaker 6 (27:14):
You know what, I'm gonna text him right now.

Speaker 8 (27:18):
I mean family might never have to work again.

Speaker 5 (27:20):
Yeah, NFL futures market guys, I'm gonna I'm looking into you're.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
Diving into this. Meanwhile, how about this?

Speaker 4 (27:26):
If you like using debit over credit, should you also
get rewarded? Well, now you can with Discover cash Bag Debit.
It's a checking account that rewards everyone with cash back

and we just went through the schedule. A lot of
potential there. Yeah, although you know what, Pokin Nakoula, he's
gonna have to fight off Cooper Cup for targets. That's
right because his best and is back in Cooper Cup
there and with Matthew Stafford. But it's an interesting, uh
theoretical to run through.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
He's Rich Ornberger in for Jason Smith. I'm Mike Harmon.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
Jason Smith Show with Me Mike Harmon continues here on
Fox Sports Radio. So got a little bit more from
the Alcs and the play of the night, a tribute
to a legend. Loss today will make it all make
sense in our extended family kind of world. But first,
it's Monsey Belanos. She's got what's trending in our sporting universe.

Speaker 10 (28:30):
I don't know what to make of this whole Rams conversation.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
Winning, That's that's what it's all about. It's about winning, winning.

Speaker 11 (28:39):
I think Rich needs to nap.

Speaker 6 (28:41):
I think.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
How abouts will look.

Speaker 6 (28:46):
I can't believe this.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
You cracked your microphone and she cracked you.

Speaker 6 (28:50):
Over the head.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
Really tied the room together, monsie. All right, listen preseason
wind tole for the Rams six and a six and
a half. Right, if that's been goosed up a little
bit because of all of the talk we've done on
the air, We've said too much.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
Might have said too much. You might have given out
too much hot take with the yeah, yeah, I'll.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
Tell you what the juice is worth, the squeeze and
it is. Well, while I'm bull side sipping a minute
made orange, you can just I don't know, you could
do whatever you do and I don't know what.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
You're gonna say it. In that sense, I'm sending it
back to Monty. I know I'm saving my job, yo.

Speaker 11 (29:28):
I know you guys are gonna talk about it.

Speaker 10 (29:29):
But Game three of the ALCS was the Astros beating
the Rangers eight to five.

Speaker 11 (29:33):
Texas Dusley the series two to one.

Speaker 10 (29:36):
Game four of the w NBA Finals, Las Vegas Aces
repeat his champions for the first time since two thousand
and two, beating the New York Liberty seventy to sixty nine.
Literally went down to the wire in the NBA today,
James Harden did a show up to practice.

Speaker 11 (29:53):
He hasn't been with.

Speaker 10 (29:54):
The team since Sunday, currently in Houston. What a disaster
that is. And I know it's only NBA preseason, but
I just saw a video of Steph Curry doing Steph
Curry things step back three pointer to win the game
over the Kings one sixteen to one to fifteen.

Speaker 11 (30:11):
He's already filling it.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
Huh did you bet it still?

Speaker 4 (30:14):
Because that's truly the only thing to take out a
preseason and it is betting.

Speaker 11 (30:19):
You're one hundred percent right. I did not bet.

Speaker 10 (30:21):
I just look like a very nice step back three pointer.
And it's just very Steph Curry of him too that.

Speaker 6 (30:27):
If you have some of that actra unused NBA care.

Speaker 11 (30:31):
I don't know. I put all my money on the
Clippers and I lose.

Speaker 10 (30:34):
So you know that on the ice, the Senators beat
the Capital six to one, and the Red Wings took
down the Penguins six to three.

Speaker 11 (30:41):
And last thing I'll tell you that has nothing to
do with sports.

Speaker 10 (30:44):
But I found this story on Twitter and I was like,
what is this?

Speaker 11 (30:48):
There is a gentleman in Spain.

Speaker 3 (30:50):
I know who you're talking about.

Speaker 10 (30:51):
Yes, oh my gosh, I can't okay, So a man
in Spain, a Lithuanian man in Spain, has been a
did for faking heart attacks at twenty restaurants around the
country in order to avoid paying the bill.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Yeah, are you kidding me? A good bit?

Speaker 6 (31:13):
No, it's not.

Speaker 10 (31:14):
Some one of the owners of the restaurant didn't believe
the bit, and that's what caused him to pay attention.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
Well did he did he double dip?

Speaker 9 (31:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (31:22):
Did he come back on that place thinking it was
you know twenty was also number one or two.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
I've seen this guy.

Speaker 11 (31:29):
Before the Lost track.

Speaker 6 (31:30):
Is that what you're saying.

Speaker 8 (31:31):
I don't know, you can How big are these bills?

Speaker 11 (31:33):
You can't be that dumb. You can't be that dumb
if you're faking a heart attack.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
Oh, that is a good question, though, I'd like to
see the list of hills.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 10 (31:42):
Ordering food and drinks he puts, I don't know how,
I don't know, clutching his chest, pretending to fade on
the floor.

Speaker 11 (31:48):
Theatrical performance, do.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
You think he did any Did he go to the
old Red Fox? Elizabeth? It's the big one, it's the
big one. There you go.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
It was Demon Wilson's seventy seven birthday. So I got
to Sanford and so.

Speaker 11 (32:02):
I got you, I got you. I guess one of
the bills right here? One of the bills. He ordered
a few shots of whiskey.

Speaker 10 (32:07):
The staff brought him a bill for about thirty seven
dollars a.

Speaker 11 (32:12):
Heart attack for for the twentieth time.

Speaker 8 (32:15):
Unbelievable thirty seven.

Speaker 5 (32:16):
Are we sure this is an Where's he from?

Speaker 6 (32:20):
Is he? Is he Lithuanian? A Serbian?

Speaker 11 (32:23):
It says Lithuanian, But it's happening in Spain.

Speaker 6 (32:26):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (32:26):
Yeah, and Jokic was too busy scouting his kitch yount
actually see him at.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
The Breeders Cup before it's all said done.

Speaker 6 (32:34):
Like he keeps leaving.

Speaker 5 (32:35):
The country to fake heart attack so he doesn't have
to pay his bills.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
He is the most well traveled. Uh yeah, yeah, that's
something listening.

Speaker 10 (32:44):
Work harder, not smarter that guy.

Speaker 6 (32:47):
That's what we're trying to tell you. What this rams pick.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
It tried to take you to Easy Street, Monty.

Speaker 11 (32:54):
I can see that. No, I'm good. I'm good, guys.
It's been fun.

Speaker 4 (32:57):

I believe you have one to three with Alex Kurky
with Alex Curry.

Speaker 6 (33:10):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (33:11):

Welcome back in Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show
with B Mike Carmon Live from the tyrack dot Com studios.
We'll have our play of the night coming up from
Progressive in just a couple of moments. Rich Hornberger in
for Jason Smith. Tonight, Houston eight to five winners over Texas.
Max Scherzer has returned to the mound, Rich, and they

(34:45):
got about as much as you could expect out of them.
Here's your four innings pitched and five earned runs, and
you're hoping that your offense would come come back, and
we saw Young with a couple of home runs. You
had the robbing of a would be Jordan Alvarez home run,
trying to keep things close but just not enough. And
suddenly Houston scratching and clawing, trying to get some stuffs

(35:06):
back into the series.

Speaker 6 (35:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
Man, the Astros, for everything negative that has been said
about them recently and really not recently for a long time. Now,
they're providing us what we need in baseball, which is
a narrative, an entertainment.

Speaker 4 (35:26):
We gotta have a villain, Rich, you gotta have the heel.
The movie doesn't work, wrestling move doesn't work without a
heel and a villain to push the story.

Speaker 5 (35:35):
Yep, there's no Hulk without Andre, without Yokazuna. I mean,
you need the good guy and the bad guy. You
need the Undertaker, you need the as much as you
need the Rock, you need Caine, you need I mean, like, look,
take it to whatever genre or milu interests you. Whether

(35:55):
it's the arts or it's professional wrestling, it doesn't matter.
You need somebody to be the bad guy, just like
just like Tony Montana said in Scarface, somebody's got to
be the bad guy.

Speaker 4 (36:09):
Well played at Ornberger where you find him on Twitter?
Find me over at Swollando. We'll get back. National League
Championship Series resumes tomorrow. Everybody, either you either love or
you hate Philadelphia, But you gotta love the fact that
you got a lot of guys that have to roll
through hair product. I wish mine grew the same way
most of the guys do there in Philly, But I'm

now old rich. That doesn't happen for me any longer.

Speaker 8 (36:54):
Would you do yourself?

Speaker 6 (36:57):
Oh?

Speaker 8 (36:57):
Nice, your face up, some nice clothes. What do you
do for Paulie anything? Three years?

Speaker 6 (37:03):
If you gave me a job, give me this.

Speaker 8 (37:06):
You gave me a lot of these thinking next legs?

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Watch this, paul What?

Speaker 6 (37:13):
What?

Speaker 5 (37:14):
That's right?

Speaker 3 (37:15):
Not another k time?

Speaker 8 (37:18):
Anyway?

Speaker 6 (37:19):
You know you forget when you're a pulp.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
And it's not just a laugh.

Speaker 6 (37:22):
Forget because he's some chime but working bumps out left.

Speaker 8 (37:27):
No one laugh at me.

Speaker 4 (37:29):
There you go the uh incomparable. Bert Young eighty three
years old, a veteran of the Marine Corps where he
was a boxer. Tie that back to Rocks. Rocky was
a prolific painter, h and a legend, ton of movies,
ton of television.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
Connection to my family.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
He kind of resembled in some attributes, you know, the
kind hearted and then you know, once the demon alcohol
would enter the scene. Sometimes get a little bit into
the hey what about me?

Speaker 3 (37:58):
What do you do for me?

Speaker 4 (38:00):
Know a character that we in my family embraced and
that you know the x lax Watch throwing a roll
eggs down on the ground is about as good as
it gets.

Speaker 6 (38:10):
Rich. Yeah, no, I'm I mean, I'm a Paully.

Speaker 5 (38:14):
I'm a Paulli man in the Rocky series that between
him and Mick, I can't decide exactly who's my favorite character,
but they were. Look, I mean, they were the exclamation
point to what was one of the greatest sports movies
sports movie franchises of all time. I even like the

(38:36):
Creed movies. I don't know if you're up on this
completely good, but I dig them. Donnis Creed, I think
what's his name, Michael P. Jordan Jordan, Sure, dude, I
think he's a good actor. I think those movies are
tear jerkers, and they you know, they get they get,
they get the heart swelling. I love I love the
Rocky series and rest in peace, PAULI That's the way
I'll remember you best and always.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:56):
So many different roles and big moments in TV shows.
Who's out All in the Family Walker, Texas Ranger. Yeah,
it was a really kind of terrifying Law and Order
episode that he was on. All these kind of things.
But you know, to me and and Frosberger and I
were talking about this, I mean, he's kind of the glue.
He's the everyman, and he's I think most of us

(39:17):
have someone in our family that we kind of relate to.
Guy's around, he's hustling, he's doing the best he can,
and every once in a while, you know, feels like
the world either owes something or is beating him down
and acts out. And that's certainly the case for this character.
My brothers and I were passing around video clips of

(39:37):
some of the great paullyism's in you know, the Happy
Birthday Paulie, when Rocky gives him the robot.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
And Roby four.

Speaker 4 (39:45):
I mean, there's just so many random moments through the series.
I've forgotten all about that Happy Birthday Paulie, my girlfriend
over here, I mean, you know, all of that kind
of stuff. So, you know, one of the great series
of films. But eighty three years young, I know Smith
had some personal connection to his family. I'm sure we'll

(40:08):
revisit in the coming day. Sylvester Stallone to my dear
friend Bert Young, incredible man's and artists in the world
will miss you very much. Rest in peace. Some great
photos that he put up in the black and white.
But now we got to, you know, add some sports
movies to the to the list, right, got to get
the Rocky Marathon going opposite all of these horror fests

(40:31):
that are going on. Yeah, I don't need Jason thirty seven.

Speaker 5 (40:34):
I'm shocked that there, you know, Frostburg and I were
talking about that too. I'm shocked there isn't a Rocky
Marathon gone.

Speaker 4 (40:40):
Seems like you would have, you know, gone, and look,
TV Land went and immediately got the Three's Company Marathon
going after the passing of Suzanne Sommers.

Speaker 8 (40:49):
Yeah, shame on these these people who run TV tonight.

Speaker 6 (40:53):
Yeah, yeah, awful, awful.

Speaker 4 (40:55):
If nothing else, we should have been seeing club or
laying in thunderlips across our across our pathways. Maybe a
little of Von Drago.

Speaker 6 (41:03):
I like it.

Speaker 3 (41:03):
Again, we go back to great villains and making things great.

Speaker 6 (41:07):
Well, you need you need it.

Speaker 3 (41:09):
We did. We did have them.

Speaker 4 (41:11):
Early in the in the show Tonight, Dusty Baker saying, uh, yeah,
I know who my Game four starter is.

Speaker 3 (41:17):
Who's theirs?

Speaker 4 (41:18):
And when he said I don't know, he said, Well,
then I'm not gonna tell you mine either. Gamesmanship as
it were, of it all right, So you know you're
down in San Diego. Are the Diamondbacks gonna make an
effort in this series?

Speaker 3 (41:32):
Or are they done?

Speaker 5 (41:33):
I mean, I don't see a way, But like JP said,
they've got a chance in Game three, And if they've
got a chance in Game three, all of a sudden,
it changes the series. So we'll see, Well, if they
can pull off a Game three victory, it flips the
script for the Diamondbacks.

Speaker 4 (41:48):
See how he could tie it all together. You're saying
they have a puncher's chance.

Speaker 3 (41:52):
He's rich.

Speaker 4 (41:52):
I'm Mike ben Maller, coming up next on Fox Sports Radio.
