Greetings and welcome inside. Happy Thursday, The Jason Smith Show

(00:52):
Now you know why when Derek Carr was available in
the off season and everybody was ooh ooh, you could
miss out on Aaron Rodgers, go go get Derek Carr. Oh,
Derek card there. Now you know, I said, Hey, I
don't want Derek Carr because Derek Carr is mid and
he's been mid the vast majority of his career and

(01:12):
why nobody else really wanted him, and he visited the Jets.
The Jets said, thank you, we'll see you out. That's fantastic.
And they went to visit the Saints and the Saints
didn't sign him, and nobody else talked to him, and
he goes back and the Saints say, okay, we're the
one team that kind of likes you. Now you know
why I wasn't unhappy when the Jets didn't get Derek Carr.
Derek Carr is mid. He has been mid since his

(01:35):
third year in the career, going back to twenty seventeen.
The last time he was good, the Mets were in
the playoffs. Okay, so the Mets are in the playoffs
coming off a World Series. That's how long ago it's
been for Derek Carr. He is mid, he has been mid,
he will be mid. He's mid.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
He's been a Jag for a long long time. Had
a good season in twenty twenty forty one hundred yards
and three touchdowns per interception, completing about sixty seven percent
of his passes. But tonight, uh I got the pleasure.
As I was heading into the studio, Mike Mayock was
on the call and had a couple of times where

(02:13):
he started to go in but then pulled himself back
from going full on against Derek Carr.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Hey, look, he's been even in that year. In twenty twenty,
in the down year, his quarterback rating was terrible. He's
never been the answer, he's never taken twenty twenty. It
was a one on one, you know, it was okay,
oh he alright, he won three straight years afterwards.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
Now the other thing here is, you know, but twenty.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Seven and ten is kind of hey, twenty seven and ten, okay,
you know it's a twenty seven and ten. Look, yeah,
he had a couple of big years his first couple
of years. When when when he threw thirty touchdowns, right,
he's up in your four thousand, okay, yeah, and then
it was broken and then he does it. It was
it was bro broke all the time. It's broken.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
But even then it was double digit interceptions, which is
what he's done virtually every year of his career.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
Thus far.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
This year, he doesn't have a lot a lot of
time to throw the ball. I mean, they're down to uh.
I thought I was going to get a call to
come run some snaps on the old line. I wondered
who was going to be this week's Justin Pugh for
the Saints as they announced they were inactives.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Well, every pass tonight has been to Alvin Kamaro.

Speaker 5 (03:19):
No, but that's just it. It's a bailout.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, what's the record for most receptions in the game.
Camara is on pace for seventy four receptions tonight for
seventy eight yards.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
Hopefully you start them in league.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
There wasn't a whole lot to look forward to in
terms of fantasy here. Maybe you roll the dice on
Trevor Lawrence and doesn't matter if etn's running for touchdowns.
And then you had Alvin Kamara, who I'm like, he'll
catch twelve balls before this game is over because it
is hot route every time down down the road. So

(03:51):
generally their offense for the year has been either a
screen pass or it is a very quick one two three,
just throw up and see if one of your guys
gonna make a play. And as the graphic that just
showed up in the broadcast told you at home, ain't
any in the ladder one touchdown in twenty nine drives.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yeah, this is it's it's really been just a a
downturn for the Saints. And look, they have a great defense,
and but you can only do so much. We have
to just ask the Jets, right, well, you have a
great defense, you only rely on them so much before
it's hey, we really need something from you guys, and
it's it's it's this is what you expected. I mean,

(04:31):
they brought Derek car to a team that didn't have
a ton of weapons. Right, you have an aging Alvin Kamara,
who is okay, you know what you're gonna get from, right,
who's out for the first three games. Chris o'lave is good,
He's okay. I like Chris a lave a lot. But
you have an aging Michael Thomas or the last time
he was good was three years ago. And then you
got to watch Derek Carr try to make it work
where every other pass is to nobody in the flat,

(04:54):
he just he just threw a pass that was to
no one. He threw a pass that was not there
was that wasn't near any recity. You see him, he's
barking at Kamara that maybe Kamara ran the wrong rap.
How many times have we seen that from him tonight?
Either a checkdown or I'm throwing it where a receiver
is not. I mean, this is the Derek Carr experience, right.
This is why when hey, Derek Carr, Derek Carr, Yes,
Derek Carr can fool you because people still think about

(05:16):
the guy when he first came around and the Raiders
were fun. Right, people still think back to when oh Man,
when he got hurt. They could have gone to the
AFC Championship and they would face this the Patriots, and
Derek Carr was really good. Yeah, Okay, Derek Carr has
kind of been just a guy and he's kind of
been and you're seeing it now and now you're seeing
it on national television on a Thursday night. So this
is where every time he comes off the field, he's

(05:37):
yelling at somebody. It's like Tom Brady when thing's are
going wrong for Brady would always yell at somebody because
he wants people to know it's not my fault. Like,
how many times have you seen Derek Carr yell at
somebody tonight? Coming off the field. He just yelled at
three guys on three plays.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Well, if you go back watch the All twenty two,
he has been obliterated on every one of those plays
because those offensive linemen are doing him no favors soever.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
So he's gotten hit off a screen often.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
How often do you get hit when you throw a
screen passs.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
It happens the Jets, it happens.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Yeah, that's a Zach Wilson thing. But Derek Carr today's way.
So it's a Zach Wilson thing, but it's not a
Derek Carr. Now, come on, I'm no fan of Derek Carr.
You can't do that to be Come on, man, come.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
On, you get what you deserve. What do you got prospers?

Speaker 6 (06:23):
I cannot wait for Derek Carr to be the Jets quarterback.

Speaker 5 (06:26):
The potentials there, but really, just go down down the road.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Here him at the deadline. Yeah, let's trade for Derek
Cark at the deadline line.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
But coming into this game, you're a three and three team.
Your defense is allowing sixteen points per game. Now, outside
of whatever the hell that was against the Patriots, thirty
four in your final is your win. Here's your point
totals for your New Orleans Saints sixteen twenty seventeen. Remember

(06:53):
they gave up that seventeen nothing lead to the Packers
nine and thirteen and the thirteen coming against the Houston
Texans after gaining four hundred yards red zone gross inefficiency.
Kicking game has had its issues offensive lines of disaster.
But Derek Carr is sorry, become an old head for

(07:16):
a minute. He's a jag. I mean, that's where we're
at in the process. You're not making plays. I mean,
Olave could go be a star almost anywhere else. They're
just not in any type of position. And Pete Carmichael
over there, remember when he was supposed to be a wizard.
You better conjure something up here soon.

(07:57):
now seventeen to nine Jaguars with the lead. And the
flip side of this, I'm gonna ask you a question
and you're not gonna be able to answer it.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
Don't play with your food.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Go ahead, I gotta ask you a question. You are
not gonna be able to answer it.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
I can answer anything. I'm away. I'm a worse way.

Speaker 6 (08:12):
What happens if we do answer it? Do we get
see show up?

Speaker 1 (08:17):
He's saying he's not gonna answer it. He's not gonna
hold if he does, he's because he's not gonna because
I know he's not gonna be able to because there
is no answer for this question.

Speaker 5 (08:24):
That's right, And why are we wasting time?

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Because because it's an important question. Hey, sometimes it's important
to ask the questions man, So it's important.

Speaker 6 (08:32):
A chance to win.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
I'm gonna give him a chance to answer. He's gonna say, well,
I bet he's gonna make up something and talk for
like a minute and a half and go well with
this and the history if the Jaguars, but.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
The Mike Carmon show here Fox Sports.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
He's just gonna filibuster but answer. There's no answer. Both
you and I love the Jaguars coming into the season.
There's still a lot of reason to love them. You
look at where they are in the South. The division
is not that great. Yes, Houston is better than expected,
which is awesome. It's awesome to be able to get
out from under the Deshaun Watson situation. And Tamiko ran
is doing a phenomenal job as head coach. There CJ.

(09:06):
Strott is great, but still the Texans aren't a great team.
The Colts are going to struggle now know Anthony Richardson
for the rest of the season, We know it's going
to be very difficult sledding in that division to get
over the Jaguars. Jaguars are four and two and right
now it looks like they're on the way to being
five and two. Both you and I love them. We
love Trevor Lawrence. We loved them. But I'm gonna ask
you a question now and you're not gonna be able

(09:26):
to answer it. You ready, Yeah, go ahead. What happened
to Calvin Ridley?

Speaker 5 (09:30):
What do you mean? What happened to Calvin ry What
do you mean?

Speaker 1 (09:31):
What happened to Calvin Ridley? Where's Calvin Ridley? Where is he?
Zero targets tonight? Not even a target tonight.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
Not he missed a block and he's being punished.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Not even a target tonight for Calvin Ridley, who has
been in his kitchen, he has he is wait a bit, Calvin.
Calvin Ridley's great. I mean that, that's the whole. Calvin
rid was terrific. Calvin Ridley with ridd then he got
suspended and now coming back, he was the big difference.
He was a big ad to this team. It was

(10:02):
gonna be boy. You look at this team now. Christian
Kirk is really good, very underrated. You talked a lot
about Kurtin and that's it. But you needed somebody, needed
a true number one to come in and be Trevor
Lawrence's guy. And they went out and they got it.
So we're gonna wait a year for you and it's
gonna be terrific. And so far he has been. Again,
Calvin Ridley's been just a guy. He has had two

(10:24):
good games and that's it. And everything else has been
very disappointing. And tonight not even to talk. Well, they
did just throw to him there. They just threw to
him there and Calvin Ridley finally comes up. Now he's
now he's mad. He's walking off the field. They threw
to him, he didn't catch it, and now he's walking
off field. So one time, at least I said it
and it happened. So one target for Ridley. He's off
the field. What has happened to him? I mean, he

(10:46):
he should still be in the prime of his career.
He's twenty eight years old. Yes, he had a year off,
but he showed that, hey, I do have the potential
to get it done. Opening week, he was great. He
had a huge week against the Bills, and he has
just disappeared and not even been a fact during other games.
And that's the one Piston that's not firing on this team,
because you know, you've gotten more than you expected out
of Travis at ten and everything else has been really good.

(11:07):
But Calvin Ridley, I mean, this is what's missing. This
is why the Jaguars have games where it's wait, wait,
they lost seventeen to nine. Really okay, ulus's thirty seven
seventeen They seven scored seventeen points. This is what's missing.

Speaker 6 (11:20):
Thirty seven.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
He just shut up. And Calvin Ridley has just not
even been there. He's been less than a jag. He's
been he's been a jag like almost just a guy,
like the ajag, like a chan almost just a guy.
That's Calvin Ridley.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Yeah, obviously that game against Houston wentz sideways.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
In a hurry.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
That game against Kansas City, you can watch Paine dry.
Neither offense really did much of anything in that one
three straight wins. I think if you're you're the Jaguars,
as you integrate him more fully in your offense, you're
going to take advantage of opportunities in the cinct. You're
a good defense, so you're not gonna press TV Lawrence,

(12:01):
I think is smart enough to recognize where the advantage is.
And right now it's been a lot of ETN and
Evan Ingram has also what he's got like forty catches
now on the year with what he's done tonight. So
spreading the ball around, you're not forcing it. Unfortunately, that
means eventually Calvin Ridley's gonna be mad at everybody.

Speaker 5 (12:19):
Yeah, that's not the way it works.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
But you didn't trade for Calvin Ridley to be the
guy saying how about you got him?

Speaker 5 (12:24):
We're gonna just stress property.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
We're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna get you
and and bring you in and have you been so
we could spread the ball around. You don't. You don't
go get a guy like Calvin Ridley, say this is
gonna allow us to spread the ball around. You go
out and get Julio Jones if you want to try
to spread the ball round. Okay, hey on third downs
in the red zone. They can't just key on AJ
Brown all the time. You don't get Calvin Ridley to
spread the ball around. You get Calvin really to catch

(12:45):
a hundred balls like that's I mean, this is what
he needs. Is what Trevor Lawrence is need. It's the
one thing missing in his in his continue to scent
up the quarterback ladder. And Calvin Ridley has been like
I said, in many games, he is invisible, but he
is ultimately coverable and and you will to It's amazing
that he has just disappeared.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Yeah, but you went and traded for him, and when
he suspended, you gave up a fifth round pick and
a conditional fourth to go get him. Distress property out
of the league a year. You don't jump right back
in necessarily, uh and become a wizard immediately, You're not.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Oh no, no, we heard it. He picked up the
offense so quickly. That was all the story in the preseason.
He's picked it up so fast. Look how quickly there's
gonna be no, assimilately. He's had a couple of games.
He's had two games. He's had two good games out
of six.

Speaker 5 (13:31):
And there's I can more games to go four and
two and on their way to five and two.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
I can say that about the Jets. They have two
good games out of six. That's not it's not why.
And it doesn't matter what you give up for Calvin Ridley.
You brought him in to be your number one receiver.
It is on the field you brought him into be
your number one. And the guy, the guy's gone. The guy,
the guy's invisible. The guys he's mister Cellophane. He could
be in Chicago to the sequel he played mister Selliphant.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Four and two on the road to five and two.
He's too about Calvin Ridley. See, and I told you
all you do is filming. I gave you the answer
you have to force to fall into him. Everything else
is clicking your run game the other Josh Allen, all
of that's working.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
You gave me nothing.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
I gave you everything, and then I gave you the world.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
You did.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
Carried you to the finish line.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Twitter it out about a Fresco Mike and no, you
threw me over the edge like I was on for
me here with the black widow and awka.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
And I got you over the edge.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
You know what happened to black widow right when she
went over there, and you know what happened.

Speaker 5 (14:36):
Then you know what?

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Sometimes big achievements require sacrifice.

Will have more on the night. Major League Baseball coming next. Plus,

(15:01):
it's about time we had a new spygate scandal, and
boy do we have one involving one of the best
teams in college football. Keep it right here for that
huge story from earlier today Jason and Mike Tyrek dot

(15:46):
get into the college football version of Spygate coming up
in a second, but I do need to say something.
We spent the last few minutes talking a lot about
Derek Carr being mid, not being any good, having a
horrible game, and you know you're you're talking he doesn't
have time, you have all this time? Oh no, I didn't.

Speaker 5 (16:02):
I didn't try to excuse it. He's terrible. But when
he's been captain, checked down for as long as you
can remember.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
But when Derek Carr throws for a touchdown, we need
to play it because we gotta be fair, right. We
can't say Derek. We can't say Derek Carr is not good.
Derek Carr is no good, he's mid, and not play
it when he throws a touchdown. So, uh, Saints had
the ball. Let's hear Derek Car's touchdown. It looks like
they're gonna double Josh Allen got Taysom Hill on that
side to help out four.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Man Russ dropping his car looking steps forward, fires in.

Speaker 6 (16:32):
The middle of the field.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
In that ball is picked off by Foye Alulaka off
the deplection to the fifteen as he runs it back
to the ten to the five angle for the Pilon touchdown.
Foye Aluagan brought back the deflected interception for the score.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Saints Radio Network Wait what oh oh, Jaguars Radio Network. Sorry,
I'm confused because you know he threw a touchdown. Oh,
but it was a pick six.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
He tried to tried to throw to the middle of
the field, tried to throw a middle route, which he
does not do. I mean, it's it's a very divisive
screen passer. Just chuck it up and make it go.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
No, he throws. He throws into a highly trafficked area
and the ball deflex, which is what happens when you
did that. It was a bad decision. His receiver was
surrounded by three guys he had he was covered and
there were two guys in the area. So you tell
me when your guy is covered and there's two other
guys that you know, I don't. I don't throw the
ball in the NFL yet, but I gotta think if
if there's three guys there and he's covered, and there's

(17:32):
two guys on either side going, I'm just gonna wait
and see what happened. Yeah, I think I pulled the
ball down or I don't throw it that.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
It's like the entourage helping Darth Vader make it through
the channel.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
I think.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
Everybody calling for Jamis Winston Brianna working and doing editing
in the back. She boasted the the screenshot because Drew
Brees is attentive and it was before the interception, but
it was a little about a forty minute ago. They
did the shot and he I can only imagine he
looks more pained now.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Oh yeah, yes, I think Teddy Bridgewater is still there. No,
they got everybody there. Archie Manning I think is coming
onto the field to a big ovation right now. Yeah,
they got they got everybody there. Everybody anybody could come in.
They got like all five guys lined up on the
sideline going to Dennis Allen anytime, anytime, and he just
I'm ready anytime I want.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
To tweeting out going. I think he's trying to get bitched.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
He's tired of getting hit. He wants out guys.

Speaker 6 (18:31):
The real question is what accent is he going to
talk with after this?

Speaker 1 (18:35):
Oh wow, let's see. Uh, he might still stick with
a Southern accent because he wants to make sure that
you know I'm still one of you know I'm still here.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
Well, he took it away from Brian Kelly, who doesn't
have it anymore. And if he can go full honky
talk man, that would be cool.

Speaker 6 (18:53):
I can get out for smashes the guitar over somebody's.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Head to say, shake, rattle and roll. Derek Carr, I
just go get the ball. Calvol Abic, comarit. He's gonna
get the Ball's gonna run. I get to get a ball,
gonna catch about fifteen baths of the night you get
I'm gonna throw the wat check down and throw the
ball right in the middle of traffick in the middle,
going to get picked off into the end zone. Kaienne
Peppa on your and Gonic, what are we talking about.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
I'm in the middle of my Swedish death cleaning right
so going through stuff and you go into the book
of the Bin that had all sorts of randomness from
my time at Yahoo all the way through, and there's
a photo from a Halloween, uh date where they had
me dress up to do videos and I was Vegas Elvis,
so I kind of looked like the Hawkey tone man.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Oh no, I bet, I bet yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Problem is the you know, the suit that they got
me was really cheap, which meant the the white fabric
was pretty thin. Sure, so you're you're wearing extra layers
of long underwear and whatever because otherwise walking around campus
was gonna be a problem.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
So we'll have more on Thursday night. Football come up.
But the Saints do have the ball and every play
Alvin Kamara has it, whether it's a run out of
the backfield or I'm just gonna dump it off to you.
So he's getting a lot of work done.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
PPR Wizard, Maybe let's go.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
But it's still a twenty four to nine lead by
the Jaguars as we get closer to the fourth quarter. Meanwhile,
Spygate has come to college football, a story that broke
today that takes Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh by quote
complete surprise. Yahoo reporting earlier today that the NCAA is
investigating number two ranked Michigan amid sign stealing allegations. Jim

(20:40):
Harbor denied any knowledge or involvement in plotting to steal
opponents play calling signals. How do they do this during
the game? You can steal signals during It's not Oh no, no,
it's not cheezburger. Now, you can steal signals during the game.
It happens, that's no, no, no. The Michigan Wolverines are
accused of sending representatives to their games and are trying

(21:01):
to steal the signals away from the sideline. This has
been a I would say, a developing story over the
course of the day. The Michigan allegedly had people attending
games of future opponents so they can see as well
as who they could be playing in the CFP playoff,

(21:21):
to see just exactly what kind of signs they use
play calls on offense and defense. So this is where
this sits right now, and the NCAA is investigating. It's
gotten to the point where none of the ten this
is where you know and you say, hey, does the
NCAA really hate Jim Harbaugh, Yes, they do, because I

(21:42):
saw today the bit where hey, none of the Michigan
opponents have talked about not wanting to play in the
rest of the season. Wait, why are we talking about that?
If this is an investigation that's going on, why are
you talking to opponents about do you still want to
play them? They even they notified Michigan's state that hey, uh,
Michigan is we're investigating them for potentially sending people to

(22:04):
games to get signals. So if this is a real
above board investigation, why are you talking to teams? Why
is it even on the table the teams could say
we don't want to play Michigan because they're stealing signs?
Are they gonna cancel the games? Really? Is Ohio is
taken to say, hey, you know what, No, we're not
comfortable playing this game. Oh, you're right, let's cancel that game.
And that's to do that for every bit of when
you hear, oh, you know, the NCA doesn't hate anybody. Know,

(22:26):
the NCA has got a little bit special something something
for Jim Harball. You can tell how they deal with
Michigan and how things go that he is someone that, yeah,
whenever he's got something going on, we're gonna spend We're
gonna pay extra special attention to it, just like it's
the same thing as when we talk about instant replay
in the NFL. Some plays when they involve teams like
the Chiefs or great to Hey, the NFL and the

(22:48):
replay boosts are gonna look at plays to see if
there's any way they can over We're gonna spend extra
special attention. Can we overturn this play on the field?
Does it give Patrick Mahomes an advantage? Does it give
the Eagles and Jalen Hurts advantage? Does it give the
Cowboys an advantage? And sometimes when they now we'll just
look at it. Yeah, no call can stand on the field.
Same thing to the NCAA, Hey, we're looking into this.
But when it's Michigan and it's Jim Harbaugh, Hey, they

(23:10):
got a little bit extra something something for them on this.
And I could tell already just because of that, just
because we're already hearing about, Hey, do teams still want
to play Michigan the rest of the seay, you don't
hear that if this is just an investigation and we're
figuring it out now and these are the first time
was hearing about facts wait wait, so you're talking those
teams down the road. Yeah, so a little bit of
something something on Harball.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
I have no awareness of anyone on our staff having
done that or having directed that action dot dot dot.
No matter what program or organization I've led throughout my career,
my instructions and awareness of how we scout opponents have
always been firmly within the rules. Okay, the advance I
don't understand the problem. Change your signs. Assume the walls

(23:54):
have ears, Assume somebody is watching, even if it's Joe
Bob eighty seven who's on his Michigan blog and putting
them up because he's watching the guy with the code, Like,
am I wrong? Like, I get it. You want to
the integrity of the game and everything. This rule seems

(24:16):
stupid to me.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
Yeah, but it's not. But I mean, come on, man,
you know it's not cool to do that. Yeah, I
mean this is against This is again to send somebody
to go and advanced scout to steal signs. That's not cool.
There's certain things like Okay, that's really not cool. And
I get on.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
If you just advanced that about your advanced scouting and
he picks up some information along the way by watching. Uh.

Speaker 5 (24:36):
Now, you know it's funny you say you can do
that in the stands.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
Yeah, you're saying you got an unpaid guy who just
happens to be there and he's really smart with his
video camera and his phone.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
Yeah. But here's the thing. It's it's not allowed. And
you know I know this because the nca is allowed
announced an investigation. So yeah, in the in the unwritten
rules part of it, Yeah, I get it. And should
he be chanting your signs? Yeah, I get it, But
this is an NCAA investigation. No, No, it's kind of
a thing.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
No, I'm not denying that it is. I'm just I'm
arguing the larger point of should it be?

Speaker 1 (25:11):
But here it is here.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
But it's also the nc double A. So I mean,
at some point, you know, they'll they'll get with the program.
The idea that you're actually talking to opponents, if you
you know, the opponents for the rest of the year
while the investigations going on makes no sense to me.

Speaker 5 (25:26):
Yeah, right, Like, where's that little you know you got findings?
Have at it?

Speaker 3 (25:30):
You want to say, all right, Michigan gets the chance
to try to disprove it. Fine, but in the middle
of the season, like, hey, we'll send up the flare.
As you know, college football is is starting to whittle
away the also rans, and you're seeing teams with their
schedules about to go potentially into the third ring of

(25:50):
hell usc and others that this suddenly pops up on
the radar. And look, Harbaugh at times has been a
he's been unlike to be nice.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Now there's two big things for this, right, There's two
big things. Because one, if this investigation goes through and
they find that this is what's happened with Michigan, right
because I told you the NCAA feels a certain way
about Jim Harbaugh. I would bet if you said, what's
the reaction going to be, at the least their twenty
twenty three season, they'll be declared ineligible for the College

(26:24):
Football Playoff. Horrible. I guarantee that I.

Speaker 5 (26:27):
Think they'll actually come to a conclusion that your.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
Cut, well they kind of have Well you're on it
right now, right, you're on it right now. If they
find something this investigation, remember it's only you know, we're
closing it on the end of October. We got a
long way to go. Get a long you can even
win the night before the game. Oh sorry, Michigan. Yeah,
but we're playing in the CIA. No, sorry, we're replacing you.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
We participated in the beef ball.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
If they find that Michigan is guilty of this, because
you already saw they already punish them for the cheeseburger gate,
which the sat out four games the beginning of this
year because he wanted to make sure that it wasn't
too much. And they're gonna special struggle was well, right,
they're gonna sit there and they're gonna say you're ineligible
for the rest of the season, you're ineligible for a bowl,

(27:10):
you're ineligible for the playoff. They can even have some
kind of combination of you can go to a bowl game,
but you can't go to the playoff. But it'll be
some kind of punishment where they won't be able to
go to the playoff. That that'll be if it comes
down and they found that Michigan was doing this illegally,
and you're talking about being able to stack wins, watch out,
that's exactly what's gonna happen to Michigan.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
How does your family feel about that? You know, you're
not a game.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
No, they're very nervous. They are very, very nervous. They're
extremely nervous. They are so and even more so, right
because I'll tell you the second biggest thing, and this
is this is what's got everybody even just as nervous,
is that the NCAA is investigating that this may have
happened prior to twenty twenty two as well. This is
the big thing. I want to know when did this start?

(27:54):
Because Michigan was a mid team, right, They were a
three laws or more team the first six years that
Harball was there. And then suddenly, magically in twenty twenty one,
they go from two and four, that ridiculous. You know
the half season they spent for COVID in twenty twenty,
all of a sudden they go to, hey, we're beating us.
We're beating Ohio State every year. We're winning eleven or

(28:16):
twelve games every year. We're going to the playoff. This
is a large jump for a guy that couldn't get
it going for six years. You got to think through
a couple of recruiting cycles, Harball would get it right,
but he hadn't. And suddenly in twenty twenty one they
take a big jump. That's what I'm waiting to see
if they say we uncovered this back to the beginning
of twenty twenty one. Then that explains everything with Michigan's rise.
That's what a lot of people are even more nervous about,

(28:38):
is that this could be everything we've done the last
few years, when beating Ohio State all these things is
just gonna be Oh, we cheated to do it. That's
another big nerve racking part of this story.

Speaker 6 (28:47):
Jason. They're not beating Georgia anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (28:50):

Speaker 1 (29:21):
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith show with my best friend
Mike Harmon, once again watching Derek Carr leaving the field
yelling at one of his teammates. This is just embarrassing
for the dude. And the thing is the game is
still there for them. It's only a one score game.

Speaker 5 (29:35):
Why did you stop running? Why did you say that name?
Why did you say Martha?

Speaker 2 (29:41):
What are you doing?

Speaker 1 (29:42):
He's yelling what are you doing at Chris Olave? Why
didn't you keep running?

Speaker 6 (29:46):
Jason? You think he sucks? Now, wait till Derek Carr's
on the Jets.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Dude, Seriously, at this point, if you said Derek Carr
or Zach Wilson, I would go oo, it's a tough
one man, that's tough.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
Wow, that was tough. Man just pulls up and it's
not like he's set up to receive a pass or anything,
and he just turned around and looked at him instead
of running further down the sideline in the ball man,
that's probably the furthest that Derek Carr's throwing the ball
this year too.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
Yeah, it's nice to see. I think that's probably why it.

Speaker 5 (30:18):
Goes out deep are arguing, Spiral, I mean, you stop
this route?

Speaker 1 (30:22):
He's like, dude, you've been throwing. I've been running going deep.
It's like on the on the when you're playing in
the school yard. Dude, I've gone deep on every play
I'm open. You haven't thrown it. That's why I stop running.
It's like, dude, all you do is srow it to Kamara.
Why am I going to keep running now?

Speaker 5 (30:35):
You just running wind sprints out there?

Speaker 1 (30:38):
Come on, go on, exit out by a Fresca exit
Swallen Dome. Jaguars with the football early in the fourth
up twenty four to sixteen over the Saints. We'll have
more on this game coming up in a couple of minutes.
But big basketball story today, James Harden still is not
with the seventy six ers. He is away from the team.

(30:59):
He has said I'll ever play for them again. Darryl
Mory is a liar. Seventy six is what do you
have to say? He is away from the team for
a personal matter. That save you.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Yeah, personally, he hates being around you person that's his
personal Yesterday it was just maybe he had something else
to do. You know.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
He wants to get to the Clippers, and that's where
this is all coming from. The only team he wants
to play for is the Clippers. And this is a
fail on both sides if you want him, because if
you're the Clippers, okay, you really have to find a
way to pull the trigger on this, and if you're
the seventy six ers, you have to understand that, all right,
we're not gonna get what we expect for the guy.
You all right. They wanted a first round pick and

(31:39):
a swap of first round picks, and they wanted that.
They wanted Terrence Man, and they wanted a player to
make the salaries match, which is basically them saying, we
want you to bail bail us out of all of
our problems involving James Harden. It's like, no, yeah, that's
a little bit too much. It's a little bit too much.
But here's my these a I feel honestly about this.

(32:00):
Why does anybody want to get in the James Harden business?
Why you have seen him now many stops where everything
is the same, where he has played and he's not
quite been what you expected him to be, and then
there's a problem and he needs out and your team
is torn apart. Right. We saw it at the end
in Houston. We saw it with the Brooklyn Nets. We

(32:22):
see it now with the seventy six ers. Everywhere he's
been where this is untenable. It's bad. Okay, here's a
new start. No, this is too bad. I gotta go. No,
why would you think suddenly, Oh, it's gonna be different
for me. No, it's gonna be the same thing. If
the Clippers or whoever get James Harden, it'll be okay
for a little bit. You're expecting him to be the
guy that he was six years ago. You want to

(32:42):
look at his stats and go, we're getting James Harden's
not that guy. He is a complimentary player who still
is pretty good. Addition, the ball led the league in
assists last year. But you're expecting more getting him, and
you're not gonna get it, and then things are gonna
go bad. I can't believe anybody thinks they're a James
Harden way for I don't know anybody who wants to
be in the James Harden business say yes, let's go
out again. No, not even the Knicks. You can call

(33:03):
them Nicks and say we'll give you mbig. No not
doing it. I mean, really, I don't know why anybody thinks, Oh,
we're a James Harden away from doing something, whether it's contending,
getting into the playoffs, being a championship team. The Clippers,
I know they're desperate, but still there's other desperation plays
out there besides James Harden.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
Well, on the positive, he actually most of the time,
not always, but most years has wanted to play basketball
during the regular season. Now you have to take into
account than in any given playoff series he will be
quiet quitting on the court for two of those games
in a series, So you gotta deal with that. But

(33:42):
if you are looking to bridge the gap. But if
you're the Clippers, I mean, this is your opportunity to
have the other guys just wear ice packs out to
court side and take nights off right, no load management.
But hey, look they've got injuries. The hammies are tight.
You know, my lower back is killing me. To steal
of ll cool Jay, whatever you need to do, James
Harden can go out and need some of those minutes.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
Now.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
I see a lot in my timeline of people that
are done with this story making all their fat suit jokes,
one of which was a The Green Goblin where Willem
Dafoe is being taunted by the mask that's hanging at
the end of a dumpster and it says the fat
Suit is calling, and then he smashes it to pieces

(34:25):
and then they get the Dafoe cackle as he walks away.
So yeah, that that's certainly still in the offing, especially
if he stays away and then hanging out in the
planet Houston.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
I mean, look, he's gonna get what he wants, right
because eventually all stars in the NBA get what they want.
He's not a star player, but he's still a star,
and all stars get what they want. And James Harden,
we want it out of Houston. Hey, it's untenable for
us the star. He's not a superstar. He's not a
star star. He's still a star. No, he's still a
star star player, but it's different now and nobody wants them.

(35:00):
How can he be a star when nobody wants you? No, No,
you're still a star.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
You're conflating and confusing the idea of he's a star
player versus being a jerk.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
He's still a name, but is he Is he a
star player? He's not a star player. He hasn't been
a star player. Oh, he's been a complorentary guy. He's
been a complimentary guy.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
He makes the machine goals at least the league and assists.
Do you not see the asterisks?

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Yeah? And where have all his teams been that he's
leading in a scent? Where have they all been?

Speaker 5 (35:27):
And they sunk?

Speaker 1 (35:28):
We can't wait to get you out of here.

Speaker 5 (35:29):
I'm not saying he's a great guy that I want
to go have tacos with.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
He's not. He's not. He's not work. But he's gonna
get what he wants because all stars get what they want,
and eventually he's gonna get that trade. He's gonna stay
away from the Sixers until they finally say, fine whatever.
They're gonna wake up one day and say, you know
what I'm done. Let's just trade him today and be
done with it. And that's how it's gonna do. Kind
of like when when when a parent says the kid, okay,
enough you win, have ice cream for dinner and then

(35:53):
go to bed. I've just had it. I've hit my breaking.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
Keep eating ice cream and I'll meet you on the
porcelain God in about an hour's time.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
That doesn't always happen with ice cream, not when you
eat too much of it doesn't happen. Eventually, it's not happened.
It's exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome. Coming
up next, we got a big story out of the NFL.
You need a Star wide receiver.
