(00:49):
very quick review, Michael Thomas touchdown catch ruled a touchdown
the two point conversion pass to guess who Alvin Kamara
is good and now somehow, despite the fact that the
Saints offense and Derek Carr have been awful tonight just
been awful somehow, and the Jaguars have a touchdown on
(01:11):
a pick six. Somehow, this game is tied. I mean,
this is this is this isn't right. I don't understand
how the this is.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
This is a game.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
The Jaguars have been dominant and they've just kind of
snoozed their way through and now here we are when
the final five minutes and the game is tied to
twenty four. You know, sometimes you know, you hear the
phrase of NFL game got too long for a team.
Sometimes when you when you just keep, when you just
keep you know, hey, we're ahead by we're ahead here.
(01:39):
Let's not do anything to screw it up and you
keep going three and out or you make it, you know,
you go for it on fourth down like they did
and not get it. When a punt you know, could
have kept the Saints asleep. It suddenly all you look
up and go, wow, this is we let the team
back in. You give a team enough chances in the NFL,
they're gonna come down the field, They're gonna eventually get
the ball in the end zone. Even Derek carr uh
(02:01):
And that's kind of how I've looked at this game
has been the pick six should have been the end.
But it's just the Jaguars can't take time off the clock.
They couldn't control the ball. Their offenses still looks like
they're stuck in mudd at times, and instead of walking
away with a victory that should be by ten points,
they're in the They're in it now. It's a tie
game with four and a half minutes left to go.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
It's funny because there was a deep ball to Calvin
Ridley where he made an amazing one handed catch, feet
got down, you could see the separation of his cleat
and the sideline and it was ruled no catch. This
Michael Thomas catch. Did he control the ball all the
way through?
Speaker 5 (02:39):
I don't know. They stopped it quickly.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
They may stopped the replay of the highlight before he
hit the ground. Yeah, right right as he's hitting the grounds,
Like all right, let they're going, don't line it up
for two.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
It's like, well, no, no, no, I want to see the
completion events they did.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
They did that for Al Michaels.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
They like, hey, listen, Alice, if Al has to watch
another blowout, see this game, he's not gonna be happy.
He's got dinner reservation after let's okay, okay, touchdown, it's
gonna be a tie game, all right? They I got
your and I got your attention now for the rest
of this game.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Yeah, it is a definitely a curious quick trigger on
the review, Derek Carr with a big pass play to
Taysom Hill to extend that drive. Is they've been using
him quite a bit red zone situations, et cetera. And
Alvin Kamara continues to just pile up touches.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Along the way. But suddenly we've got ourselves a game.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
He's crazy.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Kamara's got ten catches tonight and a two point conversion. Really,
he's gonna at this bit. He may break Terrell Owen's
record for catches in a game on this drive. They'll
throw it to him on every play out of the backfield.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Just yeah, but think about it. Just in his receiving,
he didn't have to find the end zone for a
touchdown at seventeen point five in a PPR league, Right.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Yeah, that's great. Yeah, But that's that's the other part
of it. His way. He's got ten catches. How many
yards does he have? Seventy five?
Speaker 5 (03:53):
Seventy five?
Speaker 4 (03:53):
He's got forty three rushing yards on fifteen attempts.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
I man, that's twenty five touches.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
What's the two point conversion, but Travis Etn was shot
out of a cannon early on. He's been bottled up
ever since. Just fifty three receiving yards on the day
and just a couple of catches too. For twenty two.
They have now targeted Ridley four times. They just did
a quick montage of those in the type of coverage
he's getting on the outside.
Speaker 6 (04:19):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
And Trevor Lawrence has been a more effective runner than
he has a passer. Yeah, look it's it's a guy
with I don's been a better runner than I don't
understand how this game is close.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
I really don't. This way well this look, this is
why you love football too, because you go make any sense.
This should have been a game that there should have
been a game that's been dominated by the jat they
should be up by ten points and instead, Nope, it's
a tie game.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
It's a tie game.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Now the Jaguars will be getting the football back as
Derek Carr, just rolling out to throw throws it about
fifteen yards short of his intended receiver. And more importantly,
he has come off the field and is now bent
bent on his knees. Tried either he got the wind
knocked out him or something is wrong because he was
(05:06):
almost sacked. He runs out of the he runs out
of the play. He rolls out to the right. He
throws the ball very poorly downfield. I'm watching the replay.
I want to see him.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
He was also in double coverage.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Right, but something happened while he was running or that's
why the yeah, because it looks like yeah, it looks yeah, yeah,
he yeah, he did something. He's grabbing his left his
left hand is grabbing at his left groin and he
is down on his knees right now.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Off the field.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
He was running for his life as he evaded the
first rusher who came in clean. Uh. Juked to the
left and then deeked. Tim got back out towards the
right and as he let the ball go. I mean,
you just saw the giant XL and clutching uh the
the area. Uh.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
He's up walking off the field. He just talked to
Dennis Allen. He is on the sideline now again. It's
going to be the Jaguars getting the football back with
just under four minutes left to go, but a Saints
drive in which I told you that that passed that
Derek Carr threw ten yard short of his receiver. He
underthrew uh Chrystal Lava, or he didn't lead Christal Lava
(06:12):
enough and Chris Lave had to try to come back
for a ball that would have been a fifteen yard
game but it was the pass wasn't on the money.
Another incomplete pass and out here the Jacksonville Jaguars have
the football four minutes left to go in a tie game,
and they have it in Saints territory after the punt return.
So we'll bring you more on this.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
So does this mean, guys, that we're going to get
a Jamis sighting Hill made.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
I would have to say, at this point in the game,
he has played quarterback a couple of times, it would
be Taysom Hill. I would think it's fit. He's in
the game, he's done and said if this was, hey,
Derek Carr is out and and and you know, hey,
he's out after this week. Next week, they'll get they'll
get Jameis Winston ready. But right now I think they
would go with Taysom Hill. Just one of those flow
(06:57):
of the game things. He's been playing the entire night.
He's played quarter back a few times. He's been involved
in the game a lot he's catching a lot of passes.
He's scored a touchdown running a two point conversion, so
I think it would be tastema.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
But we'll see. We'll see.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
The Jaguars got the football before they wind up giving
it back to the Saints.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Madness, I tell you, madness. But you know what, it
doesn't have to be good. It just has to be close.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
That's all. You got it, right, buddy? What do we say?
Speaker 1 (07:21):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live from the

a star wide receiver, I now know, and I don't
know why teams aren't calling right now, because not only
is he someone who he can tell is not happy,
he's also not, for some reason, not been a part
(07:52):
of his team's quote success. When you're five hundred success
so far this season, and that's Devontae Adams right. The
last few days has now been the second or third
time this year since the season started, we have talked
about Davonte Adams and his general unhappiness in the Raiders offense.
Right he makes comments this like the third time where
(08:13):
he said, hey, I need the ball more.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Our offense isn't as great as it needs to be
and I need the ball more.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
And this is the third time he has said this,
and he has talked about how he wants his team
to win and he's not getting the ball and this
is something that needs to happen. So you know he's
not happy. And not only that is here are the
Raiders who are treading water really without him. Jacoby Myers
has become the go to guy and maybe another tipping
(08:41):
point for him last week was watching Michael Mayer catch
seventy five yards worth of passes that have his best
game as a pro Titan. They took in the first
roun out of Notre Dame, who had been largely absent
from the offense until now. DeVante Adams is a combination
of not quite happy with the Raiders and not the
number one receiver that they thought he was going to be.
Team is moving the football okay without him. It's not
(09:03):
like they're the Jets and suddenly they're scoring eight points
a game. No, the Raiders have gotten by without Davanta Adams,
all right, And it happens this way sometimes, as good
as receivers are, if you don't have the the rapport
with a quarterback, every quarterback has their new guy right right,
every every time? What do you what do we always
talk about in fantasy? Hey, this guy should have a
(09:25):
good year, right, but new quarterback and you don't know
who the quarterback is going to say you're my guy
to right, You have no idea, and sometimes it doesn't
make sense. You would think, well, Devanta Adams is going
to be Jimmy Garoppolo's guy, slash Aidan O'Connell slash Brian Hoyer.
And now it's going to be somebody else besides Garoppolo
because Garoppolo is officially out for Sunday, so you don't know.
And it's turned out that Adams has been in large
(09:46):
parts invisible, and you can tell that's a team that
tries to force him the football. And if you're the Raiders,
you can say, all right, if we traded him at
the deadline, we would get something really good back him.
Whether it's a couple of picks and a player. We
would get something really good. Because Devanta Adams thirty years old,
there are a lot of teams who would say, hey,
(10:08):
let's go get him.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Now.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Maybe Devonte Adams had his peak with with Aaron Rodgers
and Green Bay and now he got paid and now
that's it for him. We've seen it before, but the
rest of the league doesn't know that. The rest of
the league just could think, well, the Raiders, the Raiders,
they screw off course, the Raiders screw it up, they
screw up everything. It's the Raiders. So you would get
a large prize for DeVonta Adams. You would get picks. Player,
(10:29):
you get and you're not taking it so much away
from your team this year as you'd think, because Davonta
Adams as much as yes, he's a guy, you have
to worry about the number one receiver. He's still not
catching passes. You didn't bring him in to be a decoy.
So I don't know why teams haven't called the Raiders
already saying this is the third time that he's talked
about getting the football and the Raiders are still not
getting it to him. And not only that they're doing okay.
(10:52):
They're not great, but they're still doing okay. So if
that's the case, why has no one called and said, hey, uh,
we want to Van Adams. We'll get them right. We
don't have to wait till the deadline. We're gonna go
get him right now, right, and we'll give you a
first round pick or a first and a third, or
here's a first on a player, or two seconds and
and not only do you move on and get that,
(11:12):
you're out from under his contract because you're paying him
a lot of money the next few years. I don't
know why there hasn't been as much action on DeVonta
Adams yet, and why we're still kind of leading up
to Devanta Adams saying hey, I want the ball. I
want the ball, dude, you can say it only so
many times before teams is gonna ignore you. I mean,
And like I said, the Raiders haven't been terrible. They've
been able to maneuver and be able to stay afloat
(11:32):
without having him be their number one guy. I don't
know why no teams have called and said, hey, what
do you want for DeVonta Adams. There's not been a
rumor any kind of conjunct, your favorite phrase, rumor, conjecture, speculation,
Why I've not seen any sources, raiders, fielding.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Calls on Davonte Adams.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Adams may want to we've not seen any of that,
and you know we're gonna get there as we get
closer to the deadline.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
Yeah, what's terrible for him is that, you know, you
gave everybody the money quote, so all the context is lost.
Quote benchmark is not wins and losses. Its greatness. Well,
he went into a longer explanation of how they're much
better if he's involved, and how the offense needs to
score more points and for wins to stack up. That
(12:15):
you're gonna need more of that, So you've got to
do the interpretation of Devonte Adams. But to your point, Yeah,
the fact that you keep raising your hand and you're
doing it in a public forum instead of behind the
scenes means that you felt anything you did behind the
scenes was met with on deaf ears. So you move forward.
I will I will give you this so you can
have some fun with it. The bet Online ag odds
(12:40):
for DeVante Adams next team Bills four to one, Lions
five to one, Titans five to one, it doesn't make
any sense. Brown six to one, Giants six to one,
they're done, forty nine, Ers seven to one, back to
Green Bay seven to one, nine to one, and Mangles
(13:02):
eleven to one. You do a quick look getting looked
through on his contract for this year, he had well,
his base salary was six million, three point eighty five
signing bonus all in cap hit fourteen to seven. For
next year sixteen point nine base plus signing bonus blah
blah blah, cap hit twenty five three. And then there's
(13:24):
an out before the final two years kick in where
the cap hit is over forty four million dollars.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
If he's done, we may find that out, right, we
may find that out if he's done.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
But the rest of the league doesn't know that. Right.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Still, he's still a guy to go get right, He's
still a guy, and he's a guy that you're okay pay.
I'm okapaying that money to Devonte Adams. He's still he's
not thirty six, he's thirty. He's good for the couple
of years. Oh no, we're very happy with that. I mean,
there's no downside to it, which is but that's why
I really don't get that Hey, the Raiders haven't received
(13:59):
calls yet and he's not been a hotter name because
everybody needs a whe also.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
Three and three, So there's delusions of grander that you
can hang around and be a wildcard team.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
You do.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
After all, for the next four weeks you have games
against the Bears, then the Lions, then the Giants and
the Jets. So you're sitting there going, well, maybe puncher's chance,
we're still hanging around. I know you and I can
chuckle about it. But they go to Chicago this week
in Tyson bagent winnable game, So you know, you can
(14:35):
delude yourself to not look towards the long term and
just say, hey, we could still be competitive. I mean,
they can have an absolute shocker. It could be a
winning streak if they win on Sun.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Yeah, but it's the Raiders you call them because you
don't know what the rate white how is knowing heeds
not that true?
Speaker 4 (14:51):
I mean, Mark Davis is still probably celebrating the Aces win.
Come on, man, you cut one of the greatest dance
moves ever and you might be able to get him
in the best of moods and say.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
All, let's go exit out bouta Fresca exit swollen down
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
more NFL on the way, It's coming down to it

has given the Jaguars the lead, but the Saints have
the ball they are driving.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
We are down to it in New Orleans. Coming up next, are.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
We talking about a big Saints come back and the
resurgence and retemption of Derek Carr.

Well for a second there, Mike Harmon, for a second there,
I felt bad for Derek Carr.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
Just for a second though, Just for a second.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
The Jaguars leading this game thirty one to twenty four
over the Saints and a lightning quick strike touchdown pass
to Christian Kirk, who is now hopefully going to get
the respect that he deserves as being the true number
one receiver of the Jaguar's having a really big year.
He takes a short pass and takes it to the
house for a touchdown lead. But Saints get the ball
(16:37):
back with a couple minutes left to go, and Derek
Carr takes them down the field and it's a pretty
good drive and everything is going great, and they're faced
a third and goal inside the ten yard line, and
there's a big miscommunication by two of the Jaguars DB's
and Foster Moreau is wide open into the corner of
the end zone and Derek Carr throws a perfect pass.
(16:59):
He lofts it up, it's a baby throw. It's right there,
and Moreau just drops it.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
He was unable to land the plane on the island
of Foster Moreau.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
And Foster's is Australian for not catching the football.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
DJ.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
I mean, it's a great pass. It's a great pass.
It's a great play. He throws it to the right
to the right receiver. It's a touchdown. The game should
be tied, and Moreau drops it and now they're faced
with a fourth and goal from.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
Inside the ten.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
And on this play they throw a fade, which you
know is my favorite play in the world. Right, Let's
fifty to fifty ball, and they throw a fade to
Chris olav and the ball is poorly thrown and it's
thrown to a poor location and it's broken up easily.
Fourth down pass goes incomplete. The Jaguars just kneeled on
the football.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
It is over.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
They went at thirty one twenty four. I mean, I
say it all the time, right, because a fade is
a fifty to fifty play. It's a fifty to fifty
plays at best. And when you do that, you are
just playing in the defense's hands. You have the ball,
fourth and goal inside the ten yard line. There are
many plays you can run to get into the end zone.
And you decide, Nope, we're gonna make it a one,
(18:13):
one winner, take all play on a fifty to fifty
play and it's thrown poorly, and it's located poorly, and
it's an incomplete pass, and the Jaguars win. I really
for part of me. I felt bad for Derek Carr
for both of those plays because it's a bad play call.
It was, but then it was bad execution by him,
which kind of goes along with the game.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
And then I stopped feeling bad for Derek Carr.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Well, you did a little bit because he kept grabbing
his groin because he was hurt. He was not, he
was not feeling it down the stretch there. But he
had a great drive. I mean you twelve plays sixty
nine yards on that drive. But once they got down
into the red zone, Jacksonville's defense firmed up four straighting
(18:53):
completions ton that drive and send you back into kneel
down mode for Trevor Lawrence Frostburg.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
What do you got for us?
Speaker 6 (19:02):
So the Saints have never won a game when trailing
by fifteen or more after three quarters. They are now
zero and one hundred and thirty six all time, including
the payoffs.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Oh at one thirty by fifteen, no to sell for
in game betting, hang on, no to sell for in
game betting, oh and one thirty six.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
All right, great, that's unbelievable. Car ends up with a
three hundred yard night.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Not a wait wait, wait, wait, wait a second, not
on and Drew Brees was never able to do that.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
Well, he was never down fifteen plus.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Well, I don't know, I don't know, or if they were,
he was down a few times.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
Ever, well they.
Speaker 6 (19:40):
Were fifteen plus after three, probably not much, maybe not
after three, right, I mean the after three is probably
the key there, right, maybe some early deficits that they
battled back from.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
So you don't get into that sample size. I mean,
this is Archie Manning, this is uh oh, I don't know, uh,
Billy Joe and all those guys back in the day.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
But really it's about I mean, there's games where the
Saints have been We're down, big Saints.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Weren't world beaters every year with Drew Brees. They weren't great.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
They weren't the pain They were great in the regular season. Yeah,
but I'm always pushed back on the Hey, Tom Brady
had the easy path in the AFC East.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
Okay, sure, but don't forget about.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
Peyton Manning save a couple of random years of the
Titans and Drew Brees in the NFC South because it
was generally a cesspool.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Yeah right, But but at the same time, Breeze was
a quarterback there for thirty five years.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
There's lots of games.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
He looked like he was ready to come in today
when the car was struggling. He may start next showing
them up in that booth. Get that pop gun arm back.
He can throw that intermediate route that car is missing
from his own. You can't even oh yeah, no, no, he
could no.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
But if you're saying, hey, can you make the throws,
Derek carrmis absolutely, I can do it. I did that
for so long. I can make that throw right now.
What do you want five yards to Alvin Kamara. Yes,
I can do that now.
Speaker 5 (20:58):
My six year old guys can make those.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
My favorite, going back to that pass play where he
was losing his mind, Derek Carr out of lava on
that sideline route where he stopped the ball did sail
pretty easily out of bounds, like he is not plastic man,
to where he was suddenly going to reach up and
sky to bring that thing down. But it really did
give some of the great animated uh kind of moments
(21:24):
of the game, some of the Derek Carr reactions to well,
his bad throws and miscommunication with his receivers and the
only guy he clicked with all night was Alvin Kamara?
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Well, yeah, because he's the only guy that's five yards
left scrimmage. I'm checking down fifty five times.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Doesn't matter, I'm checking down checking five.
Speaker 5 (21:46):
What's the lava had fifteen dark?
Speaker 1 (21:50):
What's what's his yards per atent? Like two yards per
ptent for Derek Carr tonight?
Speaker 4 (21:53):
No, I mean you're you're right at about what five
point six or so?
Speaker 1 (21:58):
I mean this was a volume for the Saints offense.
I mean this was a volume night. And look, they're
lucky to be that they were even in the game,
lucky even.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
Point four eight?
Speaker 3 (22:10):
Wow? Did you find that? You just do the math?
Speaker 5 (22:14):
I just did the quick math.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
No, tell me that, did you really do the math?
I'm very impressed with that.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
I did.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
What's the square root of sixty four eight? Did you
look that up? Or you just knew that off the
top of your head.
Speaker 4 (22:25):
I'm not that big a dollar, Okay, I'm actually I've
been running around doing victory laps.
Speaker 5 (22:29):
I've been able to help maddle in with.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
Their sophomore homework, both in you know, in math and
some of the science and some of the history, remembering
dates and places and people.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
I've been spiking stuff in my kitchen while I'm helping her.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
Oh dude, I'm completely lost in math. I can't do it.
It's just it's different.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
It's not that she gets so mad at me. She goes,
I didn't think he was, like, well, you came and
asked me. Now, you can always go to your mom,
engineer wizard. She's smarter than anybody else I know. But
the fact of the matter is, you know the kids
was a math lete back in the day, not you me.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
The limit does not exist. The limit does not.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
Exist, does not? That is right?
Speaker 1 (23:12):
Yeah, No, with the with math now because of the
way they do it and and common core, I just go, okay,
I don't understand how you came to this.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
I don't understand pam pam.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Anything that's English or reading or books or anything else
in history.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
That's me. I'm like, okay, here, blah blah blah. But
anything math's like a pam, pam pam. Where is it?
Where is it? Pam? Coman, come on in, come on in.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
I need I need to come in, and you gotta
go to the bullpen. Gotta go to the bullpen. Not
getting the quality started here. It's a math question.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
Well, and now they make I mean it's a conscious choice,
but they're finally acquiescing and bringing it to me essays
and stuff for the for years they wouldn't just un
principle and now it's like, hey, Dad, I'm trying to
phrase this like, well, let's go, shall we?
Speaker 3 (23:52):
Why the Bears need to move on from Justin Fields? Dad?
Can you help me?
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (23:55):
One hundred percent, yes, I canna help you. What do
you want? What are you gonna write about? What are
you gonna write about?
Speaker 5 (23:59):
Really? Really, what you do from the comfort of your home?
Speaker 4 (24:03):
Because you knew I just couldn't walk over and smack
you upside the head.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Who does Virginia McCaskey need to leave the team to les?
Let's have that discussion.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Well, I mean there's gonna be a fight between about
fifteen different people.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Oh no, you're right about that.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Just for a second, right, there's a reason why you
and I love Jacksonville coming into the year.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
Right, you had him in the Super Bowl, I had
him in the AFC.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
Chack Trevor Lawrence winning the MVP.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
We both have Trevor Lawrence winning the MVP. I had
a big contingent of people at the game tonight. There's
a reason why we like them, and part of the
reason was because the division they play in right now.
The Jaguars have not been world beaters, but they've played well.
They won four in a row. Hey, winn a win
is a winner. There's no style points.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Right, they're five and two. They still have some questions. Look,
you're getting a little bit more the expected out of
Travis atn who's been better than expected. You need, or
out of Calvin Ridley. You're hoping to solve that a
little bit more. But the bottom line is you are
sitting at five and two in a division that who's
going to come and get you? Okay, the Colts aren't
gonna come and get you with Gardner Minshew, it's not
(25:12):
gonna happen, all right. The Colts are more likely to
trade Jonathan Taylor by the deadline and they are to
wind up getting to first place. The Texans they're a
great story, but they're limited and they're not coming to
get the Jaguars, and the Titans are strung. No Tannehill. Now,
who knows they're two and four. They could be giving
up by the deadline too. No one's coming to get them.
And we don't talk about them as being contenders because
(25:35):
we see the pageantry of the Chiefs, right, and the
Dolphins scoring all the points, and don't forget about the Bills,
and look at the Ravens now suddenly as well as
they're playing with Lamar Jackson. And the Jaguars are a
team that kind of falls under the radar because there
haven't been as sexy as these other teams. But one
of the reasons is sometimes when you look at your competition,
you tell me the division you would rather be in.
Would you rather be in the AFC South or would
(25:57):
you rather be in the AFC East where Miami's got
to battle it out with Buffalo and a suddenly resurgent
good New York Jets team? Right, you don't want to
be in that division? Do you want to be in
the AFC North where the Ravens are really good? But
guess what, the Browns defense is the best defense in
the AFC. Then the Steelers, somehow, despite all their problems
and Kenny Pickett stinking for the first fifty five minutes
of every game have three wins. And oh, by the way,
(26:17):
the Bengals, who've been to the Super Bowl and the
AFC Title Game the last couple of years, they're three
and three.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
In figuring it out, which division do you want to
be in?
Speaker 1 (26:25):
You want to be in the South because the path
of least resistance is overlooked. And it's such a big
deal because when you want to look at a team
to say, hey, what we're talking about home field advantage,
easiest path, not having to worry about emptying the tank
during the season, that's the Jaguars. Yes, we love their personnel,
we love Trevor Lawrence continuing on the ascent, but more
than that, when you look at what you have to
(26:46):
go through when it's not what other teams do. Yeah,
they're a Bit's a big deal that they're being able
to dominate the AFC South the way they are.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
You go and you take care of business, as you said, style,
points don't matter, right, just be healthy come December. That's
really what the NFL is all about. Given where we're
at in our love or hate of parody. Right, they're
a middling team in terms of points allowed, giving up
twenty a game coming into tonight and Jared, Jared Allen
(27:19):
and all those guys. Josh Allen, I should say, getting
after it up front. He harassed car quite a bit.
And you get some playmakers in your secondary. The Calvin
Ridley thing. I think it solves itself as long as
you're getting good returns from Kirk Etn and Evan Ingram,
because remember Evan Ingram was a guy that there were
some questions when they signed him. He's like whoa, and
(27:41):
then he had a big year and now he's doubling
down and he's been a great safety valve for Trevor Lawrence.
And if Lawrence with a brace on his leg is
able and willing to run as he did today, the scrambling,
leading the team and rushing, you've got a pretty good formula.
Now it's all just about staying healthy as you get
down the stretch and start piling up those home games.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Twitter at how about a fresco Mike get swollen down
the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the Tirech dot Com Studios.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
We'll have more NFL coming up at the top of
the hour.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
But coming up next Are we about to crown a
new mister October and Major League Baseball?
Speaker 4 (28:17):
If you want to crowd them, just celebrated that anniversary
the other day.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
Yes, next right here.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
That's why I said it not my first day, not
my first radio? Are we about to crown a new
mister October? And why is that going to make Mike
Carmon really mad? That's coming up next right here. This
is Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
And in fact TJ. Who can it be?
Speaker 1 (28:55):
We may be on the cusp of a new mister
October in Major League Baseball?
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Two games today, the.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
Diamondbacks get back in it against the Phillies by winning
two to one. How many happy Arizona fans were able
to get in this game for three dollars? I was
gonna say, you had guys buying blocks of tickets just
saying call me and we could go to the game.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
It was fifteen bucks. Was get in for this game?
You could get into this.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
You could get into the NLCS for fifteen dollars.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Yeah, we were chronicling that a little bit last night
at Ornberger and I just kind of laughing at it, going, wow, we.
Speaker 5 (29:29):
Just lost ten to nothing.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
But I need to go to that game. I need
to go see them lose.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
But it's also an afternoon game, Like we talked about
all the particulars to it, like, yeah, but it's define.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
It's a pretty big town. I get.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
I think you could get enough people to fill a
fifty thousand seed stadium where hey, you don't have to
worry about charging fifteen dollars to get in.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
Well no, but I mean that secondary market, right, you
charged what you charged in. Major League Baseball sets the
prices for the playoffs, so people paid full freight. Hell,
I actually just got a notice from the Angel was
asking me to sign up for season tickets. Are you
getting me by the way we've increased our rates? Well,
who's playing for you? I got questions, Hey.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Hey, if you want to buy season tickets, guess what,
you can come play for us as well, and then
you know, maybe maybe you can sit and watch the
game for a few winnings and then you come in
and you.
Speaker 5 (30:18):
Pitch hat me a lot and I'll get hurt too, guaranteed.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
But look, they're all bought, they're all paid for at
an exorbitant rate. And then you just add blocks of
people saying screw it, I'm not going, and so you
depressed the get in price too. I saw it at
fourteen fifteen bucks.
Speaker 5 (30:38):
That's it. There you go.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
Meanwhile, a story that now is going to just make
Mike Harmon very upset unless it's not. And I gotta admit, hey,
when I say I'm wrong about something, I was wrong.
I thought the NLCS, well, the ALCS was over Rangers
up to ZIP going home. Nope, the Astros prove that
we are still in this. They win their second game
aim in a row, and they pummel the Rangers ten
(31:02):
to three. The biggest hit of the game was by
this guy.
Speaker 7 (31:07):
Here's the pitch swing in a drive three pointer from
way downtown Kaye signor I pray you hot three run shot.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
What a big head.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
It's seven to three Astros White Sox Radio Network that
actually let the White Sox had know Astros Radio Network
on the call, and you can hear maybe he knew
it was coming. You can hear that, hose Bray. You
with a big three run homer helping to extend this look.
They were up three to nothing out of the gate,
Texas crawled back to tie it.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
This was the biggest hit of the game in eight
postseason games for the Astros.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Now, he hasn't been there very long. Former now I
had a cheating Astro. Sorry, this is before Bray you
got there. Hoseah Bray. You now four home runs an
eleven RBI in his eight games with the Houston Astros.
He has been absolutely dominant with this team in October.
(32:09):
The biggest hit tonight, And now the series is even
and you can say they've gotten back the momentum because
you know the series is.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Going back to Houston.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
Now Doe Verlander's gonna get another shot, and all these
things are happening now they have ceas control and Joseah Bray,
no matter how old he is, he still rakes. The
guy's thirty six. He knocked in ninety runs this year.
The guy still rakes man.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
He is something just insane, right, Verlander versus Montgomery. Tickets
for that one as low as eighty two dollars. You
want to go to that one, But yeah, for jose
A Brailla. Look, whenever guys leave the team and they
put in their time, and it was all right, where
are we going next? It was time right, one hundred
and fifty seven games in twenty twenty two to fifteen
(32:51):
home runs, seventy five RBI, still hit three oh four,
but the power numbers weren't there, and so you decide
to move on. Plays in Houston this year eighteen home runs,
ninety RBI and one hundred and forty one games, batting
average all the way down to two thirty seven. So struggled,
but coming up huge here he and Jordan Alvarez not
(33:14):
a one two combination. I want to see if I'm
facing as a as a hurler right now.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
It really is something the way the Astros have changed
the narrative of this series. And hey, you know what,
everything was going great for the Rangers until what happened
until Max Scherzer got on the mound.
Speaker 5 (33:32):
All right, damn nets sabotage everything.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
And then shirts are got on the mound, and look
what happened?
Speaker 4 (33:38):
And look what Well, right off the jump, you give
up three runs, and you battle back to even through three,
and then the four run fourth and never looked back.
So just a huge game, a bray of the home run,
McCormick the home run, and you're looking now at you
know in Orkety didn't even get out of the third,
like and that was the big surprise, Like you still
(34:01):
got everything you needed from your offense, But one of
your prize starters who came back from injury and you
were banking on a big effort from didn't. So good
job by the pen to pick him up.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
Exit, how about a fresco exit? Swollen down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend of my carment. Hey,
when I'm wrong, bro, I thought the Rangers would have
had this series.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Now we're here. When I'm wrong, I said I was wrong.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
Is he boach? He's head now more swollen because of this.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Oh it's like eight and a quarter now, Yeah, he's
he's old seating Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
You gotta you gotta make special.
Speaker 5 (34:35):
Hats Mega mine looking right there.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Special hats coming uh coming up next we get back
into the NFL. How many times can I say the
word mid about the guy we're gonna talk about next.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
This is fuck Mid
