(00:52):
on a Friday night, head of a big NFL weekend,
and Major League Baseball decided, Hey, we want some headlines.
The Phillid Eagles. I can say the Eagles because the
Eagles lots of the Jets, Phillies and the Diamondbacks now
tied at two apiece top of the sixth inning nobody out.
Philly is looking to take a three to one lead.

(01:12):
Here they tied it an inning, a go at two apiece.
Bryce Harper coming up to bat. If you're not rooting
for the Phillies, this is where to probably hyde your eyes,
because that's what I'm gonna do. So again, Phillies and
diamonbacks tied to a piece. Again, Phillies can basically clinch
the NLCS with a win tonight, they'd be going home
with at worst a three to two lead. So this

(01:33):
is where things sit in the top of the sixth
inning in Arizona. Meanwhile, earlier today, boy did we see something.
Whether you love the Astros or you hate the Astros,
which is basically everybody, this was some kind of game.
Game five of the ALCS. It looked like Texas was
gonna win, and we watched the Astros pull this out

(01:56):
with a big three run homer by everybody's favorite Astro,
Jose l two. And this is a game that had everything.
You had drama, you had a you had a bean
ball war, you had benches emptying, you had ejections. You
had Dusty Baker about as mad as I've ever seen him. Well,
two of them even used a corked bat. Jason, that's
allegedly that. I think it's allegedly. I think that is allegedly.

(02:16):
You can't go with that, No, I think you got
to say allegedly, how else did he do it? Well,
the buzzer, the buck. Come on, man, you had a buzzer.
Pick your poison. It's the buzzer. I think it's the buzzer,
is what it is. Uh See you had that and
Dusty Baker getting it. I mean that's I mean, oh,
he was pissed. I mean, I mean, Frostburg to Steve O.
I've never seen I've never seen Dusty Baker that mad before.

(02:38):
I mean, he was just all kinds of shades of pissed.
You could read his lips after. Yeah, he was. I've
never seen him that mad. You must swallow his toothpasts
created a different problem, you don't, Oh boy, okay, okay,
we gotta help Dusty out a little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Here because the batter was thrown out for his reaction,
but the Q reliever was tossed and then Dusty with
a long argument and the Texas manager argued this, why
was there such a long delay here in the eighth inning?
Before we finally resumed the game, Dusty Baker was tossed
and was still seated in the dugout for quite a while,
and then finally before they resumed the game, he was out,

(03:18):
but the home play umpire had to come over and
talk to him a second time.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
You know, you watch Garcia with the big home run,
and as soon as he hit that home run, I
knew next time, I said, he's gonna get dotted, right
A Dolas Garcia is gonna get dotted because he hits
the home run. He kind of walks halfway down to
first base holding the bat, the ball goes into the
Stansund spikes, He's pounds his chest, he spikes the bat,

(03:43):
he rounds the base, he does that little dance going
into home plate, and I said, next time he comes up,
he's going to get hit. And the next time he
came up in a very weird situation to throw at
a guy because you're talking about a game that the
Rangers are winning four to two in the in the
eighth inning, and you don't want to give him any
more runs. And Brian A Bray, you hits him pretty
easy with a fastball that tails in right in the ribs.

(04:04):
It's where you throw it when you want to hit
a guy. And this forces the benches to empty, and
Dusty Baker comes out and the umpires throw everybody out,
and I get what the umpires were trying to do.
They were trying to restore order and not let it
get out of control. And I understand the umpire's feeling
they're in the heat of the moment that hey, if
we don't do anything here, this can get out of control.
Because you look at Garcia, who showboats gets hit, nothing

(04:28):
happens to him because then he does go after Maldonado
right after the Cats, right after the hit, Like he
doesn't go out after the pitcher. He goes right because
they have a history going over the part of the season,
so he goes right after him. So I'm like, boy,
keeping him in the game is kind of rough because
he sort of instigated the situation.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
And it was the first pitch, by the way, ninety
eight miles an hour, right toward the ribs. I think
hit his arm instead, But well, you mentioned the reliever
had just walked the leadoff guy, so to purposely then
hit the home run hitter from his previous event, You're
automatically putting two Texas Rangers on base already down.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
To Yeah, so I get that maybe the inside pitch
was supposed to be an inside pitch, wasn't supposed to
hit him. It got out of control. But still, if
you don't toss him, it's very hard. It's a it's
a it's a. I mean, for everybody on social media
was like, why do you do this? The umpire's lost
control of the game. No, I get why you did it.
You had to keep the game to the point where

(05:20):
it wasn't going to get out of control. Did you
have to keep it going that long? Though it was
a long time, gave the advantage. Rusty Baker wouldn't leave
the dugout already cheat, they already have the advantage. Dusty
Baker stayed the dugout forever, and that was killing Rob
Manford's pace of play.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
The wall.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
He was Anthony Davis. He was gonna come out the
next inning with a Bobby Valentine mustache and manage it.
I'm like he got thrown out right, Like I'm watching it,
and I'm watching it and I'm saying, no, they I'm
positive they threw him out. I'm positive, right, away. They
threw him out.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Because there are so many black managers in baseball. You
just have to put on a mustache like Bobby Valentiner.
It would never be able to idea.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
And he's also wearing sweat Lots of guys wear a
sweat band still with his own picture on it. Like
you could see Dusty Baker and you could read his lips,
and you could read his lips telling the umpires that's
how it's done, that's what happens, like basically saying when
a guy show boats, you throw inside and you're gonna
throw my guy out. You're not gonna warn him. You're
not gonna give anything. That's ridiculous. And Dusty gets thrown

(06:19):
out for that. He could read his lips saying, don't
you guys know this is how we do it in baseball.
And so that is how they did do it. Yeah
they did, and they see you know, well they up
until Cindergard they decided we're gonna protect Jay Sutley, which
I'm like, come on, man, But anyway, that's a story
for another day. So I get why they did. I
get why they threw a bray you out. I get
why why they why they threw Garcia out, and they
threw they threw Dusty out right away, and so I

(06:41):
understand all of that. It was a big lull. There's
no way you can sit back and say the Rangers
lost because of it. I mean, look the Astros. Just
Astro's big hit in the ninth inning went in the stands,
and the Rangers big hit in the ninth inning was
a line drive that went to the shortstops. Why they
say baseball is a game of inches, right, That's what
it was. But the one thing I was gonna say, Steven,
you and I were talking about this in the in

(07:02):
the in the in the kitchen before the show, is that,
you know, and look, not that I'm gonna compare myself
to Bruce Bochie, but I will, uh you know, look,
well you guys do wear the same size hat.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
His.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
I can't believe his head is bigger than mine. It's
like that, yo.

Speaker 6 (07:15):
Yeah, no, he's like eight and a quarter.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
He actually has brains in his stop. Come on, they say,
still not as big as berry buns. No, no, no, no, no,
like my hat right here seven and three quarters, like
seven and three quarters, that's my hat. Like I when
I put an eight hat on. Like if I go
into a store and there's a hat I really like,
I go, oh, it's an eight. I'll put it on
just to see. No, it comes completely down over my
face and I'm like, Okay, well I don't have hair,

(07:38):
but it's still seven three quarters. So but even if
it's a case, because I'm thinking about this, because I
I it's one of my things that I always that
I always like, I know what my strengths are and
managing you know, and managing the U sports the way
I do in managing teams, and I always know when
to go out to talk to a picture right that
I always know when to go, Okay, this is where

(07:58):
we gotta go down, and we gotta we got to
take the temperature down a little bit and and we
have to just refocus on the game and take a
little bit of momentum away. And it doesn't matter what
you say sometimes just going out there and talk to
the infielders and let the let the pitcher just sit
by themselves. Mean, look, that's kind of how it is.
And the top of the ninth inning before al two
VA's home run, la Clerk walks Singleton, who's hitting one

(08:21):
sixty five hinch hitter in the I mean hitting one
sixty five and he goes three and oh on him
and then throws two strikes and then throws ball four
in the dirt. And you could see his body language
was terrible, you know, staring up, looking up. It looked
like I said, he needs help, he needs he needs
he needs something. They left him in there for thirty pitches. Yeah,

(08:41):
it was a lot. I get well, and I get it.
You know, you trust him and it. But he's a
guy you've trusted as of late, because he's not somebody
that's been closing all season. Babe up down, Yeah, this tea.
I mean, look, Will Smith was closing to start the
Sea the third Will Smith on We don't talk about Chap.
You know he was he was everybody. Yeah, no, no,
not not this Wilson. That's a different Will Smith, Frostber,
that's not this one. And so you know, but they

(09:02):
finally found the clerk and they trusted him. And after
that walk, I'm saying to myself, you gotta go out
there and talk to him. You just walked a guy
hitting one sixty five. John Singles is a one sixty five.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Hitter, and so you just walk in it's too on
for Houston and they're down too yeah yeah, and Altuve
runs to the plate like he couldn't wait to come hit.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
They they go right from that to al Tuve, who
puts this stut and he runs to the he couldn't
wait to go hit. You have to you have to
take a time out and get out to the mound.
And I don't know if it would have done anything,
but maybe, I mean, you just you just let the
situation get worse. And that's where as a manager or
at least a pitching coach has to go and say, okay, look,
you know this is what all right, let's do this here. Hey,

(09:43):
when it's hit, let's get the out. Let's not worry
about the runner. It's you know, basic things. But it's
it's okay saying basic things because it's basically just giving
the picture a chance to resettle and know what they
need to do to go pitch again. That that's what
it's all about. And the fact they didn't do that
was stunning to me. It was absolutely stunning that. And baby, look,
Clerk's a guy that doesn't like that, and he doesn't
like when you go visit. I mean, I don't know

(10:04):
that much. But it doesn't matter. When you're talking about
the ninth inning of Game five the NLCS and you
walk a guy hitting one sixty five, Yeah, you gotta
go out there and say, hey, dude, are you okay.
That's the one thing I can say where, boy, if
I could fault the Rangers and the Astros winning, that's
the one thing because the delay was the delay. You're
still up by two runs. You had first and second,
nobody out. You were up by two runs, right so

(10:25):
and you still you couldn't get a run across in
the eighth inning. But that's the one thing I would
say is that, boy, they didn't take any chant. They
didn't help him out at all, and he just serves
it up to Altuve who just clocks it. And after that,
you know, then it looked like a k dial in
a little bit. But then didn't matter. You know, three
runs are over, it's five to four, and that's basically
the game.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
And a lot of pitches, and they asked him to
throw more than one inning in the last game. They
asked him to throw more than one inning in the
previous round. And this is not a guy who's been
your closer for that long. I don't mean just this season,
I mean in recent years. He's not been your closer
that long. By the way, very bad news for anyone
who is not a Philly fan, like maybe the person
I'm speaking to. They started the sixth inning at Arizona

(11:05):
with three straight walks and then a hopper down the
third base line was caught by the third basement and
ruled fair, so he tried to throw out the runner
home and bounce the throw. Two runs scored. Phillies take
a four to two lead at Arizona. Second and third.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Now for the Phills, Now let me say this because
I'm gonna I'm gonna say this for you and Frostbury,
because I'm gonna be just like it was last year.
I've told you that the Phillies. Look, I've already come
to grips. The Phillies are going to the World Series
and they're probably gonna win. Now, since it looks like
it's gonna be the Phillies now up four to in
the sixth and since it looks like Phillies and Astros
is what it's gonna be again, I'm gonna say, like

(11:42):
last year, I'm not rooting for the Astros to win. Okay,
I'm not rooting for the Astra to win, but I'm
really not rooting for the Phillies. I'm really not rooting.
That's what you're doing, that's right. No, no, no, I'm
not rooting for the Astros, but I'm really not rooting
for the Phillies.

Speaker 6 (11:56):
No, I'm not. I'm not.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
I'm not saying I will not stand here. No, no,
I'm saying I'm excited when the Astros are winning, but
I'm really not gonna be happy if the Phillies win.
So that's where I'm gonna be. That's It's just just
like last year. But I've already come to grips with
the fact that Phillies are gonna win. Then it's gonna
be a different result than a year ago. And the
Phillies and their long hair and the necklaces and the
beards and the yelling and the headbands and Rob mclaney

(12:21):
wearing every bit of Philadelphia fan Merchi can get his
hands on. I realized I'm gonna have to watch that
all for a big five, six, seven game series in
the World Series. I've already come to gripp and beide
probably making more appearances at postseason games of course, Oh everybody, Well,
you know that's the one.

Speaker 5 (12:34):
You know.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
I will say this, you want myself, I'll say a
good thing about Philadelphia. I will is that I really
like that the all the players of the professional sports
in Philadelphia all support the other sports. Dak Prescott was
at the Rangers game tonight. Dak Prescott was at But
like you see, Jalen Hurts goes to games, and Joel
Embiid goes to games, and Harper goes to games. They
all seem to go to games when it's big and

(12:56):
they support the other teams. Devin, I think that's pretty
cool at Arizona. Yeah, and I think that's pretty It's
pretty cool when when when people do when teams do that,
because you know, that's one thing that that that fans
always say, Oh the sense of community and players don't care,
they're no. It's kind of fun to see. And I
see it a lot with Philadelphia, Like it's not just
one player here. I see it a lot with Philadelphia
teams being able to come and do it. It's all

(13:16):
the star players.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
You know.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
It's not like, oh hey, look who's here is you know, No,
it's all the stars that goes see the games. And
I think that doesn't Which one is going to be
the best though? Doesn't it? Which one James Harden shows
up to Citizens Bank Park and doesn't show up to
the sixer game that day or the next day, that's
gonna be the best? That would be absolutely fantastic ground

(13:38):
out for the Phills inning over James, James, you're gonna
play for this? Oh no, no, no, I'm here at
the game tonight. I'm here to get that. That would
that would take h Kyrie Irving needing a day off
from the Nets to go to a zoom meeting for
the Mayor of New York City race. That would take
that to the next level.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
And I'm just not coming now Harden will say, I'm
just here so I don't get fined.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
That's pretty much for the third time You're a Lion.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (14:13):

I'm a hotline longtime NFL ins I do the same
intro for him every week, but I'm gonna do a
different intro this week. Jason Cole talks with us every
single week, right Hall of very good voter and a
cowboy bees. Last week he told us, Hey, I can't

(14:34):

on Friday night or you know, I got something me
and my son doing something. Yeah goes. Jason Cole had
to do Wednesdays at a Friday last week because last Friday,
Jason Cole got married. Congratulations, my friend, here you go.

Speaker 6 (14:55):
How are you?

Speaker 5 (14:57):
Oh? Thank you? The music is beautiful. I love it.
We danced to this right at the end of the ceremony.
It was fantastic.

Speaker 6 (15:06):
You dance a really exactly all right.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Of course, miguila very popular in hockey games. Just so
you know, I mean, it's very popular hockey games.

Speaker 5 (15:17):
Thank you for that. I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Some congratulations, But part of me thinks it wouldn't been
even a better wedding if you would stop to do
the hit with us from your reception, And then I
thought about that.

Speaker 5 (15:27):
I thought about that for a while. I wanted to
be married for more than three hours.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
Oh all right, bring bring Smith in to do Jerry
Jones impressions at the reception.

Speaker 5 (15:36):
Yeah, you're right that that wasn't And plus I might
have been drinking a little bit by that. Just well,
if you us not not that I have not done
the show Occasionally, occasionally I might have been drunk at
the time.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
Occasionally I might have been made.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
They got in that place outside that bar in Boston
that one time. That was that was not good.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Oh yeah, we married the woman who came up to
you and asked you for cigarettes. Is that you wounded
up yet?

Speaker 5 (16:10):
I did? Well? Actually she was. She was the woman
blocking the door for me from coming back in. Yes, yeah, yeah, no,
not the same. We haven't met again. So there we go.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Had you told us, we would have sent you a sandwich,
at least we had delivered to the wet to the
reception for you.

Speaker 5 (16:25):
That we kind of split that among all the guests,
that would have been great.

Speaker 6 (16:29):
It'd be one hell of a sandwich.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Let me tell you, here's your sandwich from these knuckleheads
I talk on the radio with you.

Speaker 6 (16:34):
We said fifteen of them and you cut them in quarters.

Speaker 5 (16:38):
Yeah, if I even't going to stretch the quarters. Okay,
yeah it was. It was fantastic. Yes, we had a one.
We had a wonderful ceremony. I made a couple of jokes.
It was good. It all went very well.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
So is now is your honeymoon going to be you
in a hoodie on the Michigan sideline giving signals? Do
the Michigan coaches so they know what play is coming?

Speaker 5 (17:03):
Why did you have to give it away on a
Friday night?

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Well, I want people to know if they're looking for it.

Speaker 5 (17:08):
Yeah, this is supposed to be announced by Corso tomorrow,
like you know, like he was supposed You know, you
just you gotta pramp every big announcement, don't you?

Speaker 4 (17:22):
Like?

Speaker 5 (17:22):
Why do you have to do that?

Speaker 1 (17:23):
We want to break news on this show. I might
get wait, I can't wait for cours and have the
Wolverines thing over his head going. Jason Cool NFL Insider
is again giving the size the harbor. It's Jason. He
went to Stanford. I didn't pig Stanford last week. We
gotta we gotta break it here before you see it there.

Speaker 5 (17:42):
Yes, I know, and I respect that you got to
keep yourselves relevant, but you know it was. I had
promised this whole thing to Corso. Herbstreet definitely out. But
Corso I want him to have it, but he's out.
Now I gotta I gotta find some other tidbit for Corso.

Speaker 6 (17:57):
To have last thing before we get to the edf
out last last week?

Speaker 4 (18:01):
Did you do like triple takes at the television thinking
you might have been too inebriated when you.

Speaker 6 (18:06):
Saw the final score of the Stanford Colorado game.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
I might just have gone, oh what just happened? Now? Yeah,
I might have been distracted for a few minutes way
along with about ten other Stanford grads to where they're
at the wedding.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
There you go, wow, So well wait, so you got
married during that game?

Speaker 5 (18:29):
Yeah yeah, okay, that is true.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
So while everything's going on, were you like were you
like like me at weddings when I was younger, Where
everybody else is in the wedding and I'm at the
bar watching whatever game is on with a bunch of
other guys.

Speaker 5 (18:45):
Why do you have to continue to do this? I'd
like to stay married. She didn't know about the little television.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
It's time for the fast dance. Can we find the groom?
Where is the groom.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
Yeah, where's the groom? Always watching it on his on
his the phone.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Great, sorry it Stanford.

Speaker 5 (19:04):
I will d as I was dancing like all the
guys were holding up their phone so I could.

Speaker 6 (19:09):
Look all right, Jason and I being.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
All right, we get we're down twenty nine nothing, don't
show me that. Don't show me that.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Did they or did they not? Play the Stanford fight
song for your first dance after the game was over?

Speaker 5 (19:33):
Now that's what we walked up to.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
Oh very okay, good, all right?

Speaker 5 (19:37):
We walked up way, we walked out. We walked up
the aisle, so the to the Stanford Yes, and a
little green bag again and then we played the you know,
the the original version on the way out by Why
am I forgetting? Who did? All? Right? Now?

Speaker 6 (19:55):
Free? Free?

Speaker 5 (19:56):
Yes? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (19:57):
Best?

Speaker 5 (19:57):
Yeah? Best a free Yes? Okay, there we go, Yeah
the best. It's the only are I should have said that?

Speaker 2 (20:08):
All right?

Speaker 6 (20:08):
Jake Cole, I make you commissioner. How do you fix scoring?

Speaker 5 (20:12):
How do I fix score? We need more.

Speaker 6 (20:15):
Touchdowns, Jake Cole? These third we have a point snooze
fest will not stand.

Speaker 5 (20:22):
Yeah, yeah, you gotta get a good quarterback like this
is inevitable because We're coming out of a great scoring
age with a lot of great quarterbacks. Yeah, you lose
Manning those Breeze who lose all those guys, and then Rogers.
You lose Rogers at the beginning of the season after
five plays. I have reminded, you know, that's not that's

(20:43):
what's going to happen. And look the league. It's just
I was thinking to look at all the quarterbacks because
I was having a discussion with somebody about, you know,
how good is Dak Prescott, right, and these things are
really like he might be the eighth or ninth best
quarterback in the league, which is kind of an indictment
about the league, right, Like he's just a really average quarterback,

(21:04):
but he might be top ten because of the sort
of this brain drain we've had a quarterback now, which
you hope is that this group of quarterbacks were coming
in this year, or the rookie class from this year,
they will develop and then the you know what it
sounds like, at least two really good ones and then
maybe Shagar Sanders, you know, comes in next year along

(21:28):
with some other guys. Right, Like if Penix is really
I don't think Pennix is actually any good. But there's
some other guys who are in that class.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Those are four.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
Hundred yards a week. He's got to have some kind
of talent. He's got to be good.

Speaker 5 (21:40):
I just I just don't. Look, I don't believe in
that release. It's it's funky and long, and I just
don't think it works in the NFL. And I also
don't believe in college stats translating. Okay, I just you know, sorry,
I just don't buy Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Back twelve stance for hater. Hater, if you played in
the ACC, you would like him?

Speaker 5 (22:00):
Did you see Wait a second? Melissa Isaacson posted you
know it was either mossa isaac cent or Melissa Jacobs
and I always forget that. I always get those two
mixed up. But one of them posted a Halloween picture
from the Bay Area. That's that had two skeletons dressed
up in cal and Stanford uniforms with a sign that

(22:20):
said rest in Peace PAC twelve in front of it.

Speaker 6 (22:25):
It was it's pretty good.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
I like that.

Speaker 5 (22:27):
I was, Yeah, Amy trask Amy Trausku pointed that out
to me. I was like, that's classic. It was awesome. Anyways,
I get Look, you just have to get better. Quarterbacks scoring,
that's as simple as that, and Derek Carr being yeah,
you know, Derek Carr being in the top half of

(22:50):
the league of quarterbacks. It's just a huge indictment the
Raiders making this decision that, oh, Jimmy Garoppolo is going
to improve this yeah in what like the half the
games he plays because he was injured half the time.
Didn't you know that, Josh McDaniels. Didn't you figure that
one out? Yeah, that's the only way you fixed scoring.
You got to have better quarterbacks, or you make it

(23:10):
easier for him to throw. But at this point, you
can't make it any easier than it already is.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
No, But at the same at the same time, it's
I think it's understanding that, hey, why not when you're
sitting here saying, all right, let's go crazy for Jimmy
Garoppolo or Derek Carr. Then I watched the Raiders say, oh, no,
we're going to start Brian Hoyer on Sunday instead of
Aidan O'Connell. Why wouldn't you start aid and O'Connell on Sunday.
The guy's pretty good. He was, he showed He showed
him is when you shoved him in there. He didn't
do poorly.

Speaker 5 (23:37):
I'm like you, Josh McDonald, why you're Josh McDaniel, are
you saying are you questioning the ability.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Of JA smartting up the old motting up? The only
guy I might trust Josh McDaniels over is if he's
coaching a game against Brandon Staley. That's the only time Daniels,
that is just.

Speaker 5 (23:58):
A classic of those two ran in Staily go I'm
going to go from it far and on fourth and
once my own, my own eight yard line next time.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
Like, it's just.

Speaker 5 (24:09):
Take points, man, you're at home. You're at home, and
you're holding the Cowboys down. You don't need to get
every touch. Just take the points, take the easy points,
and gamble when you have to gamp. God Franstal, it's
so annoying to me. And the thing about it is
he has that look on his face like, oh, yeah,

(24:31):
I got it nailed. I got them. I so got
this nailed. I know what I'm doing. Like, never mind,
he's charges are doomed. I I hate to say that
for Frostburg because I love Frostburg, but they're doomed.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
But here's that I can break the charges down even easier.
All this fourth down stuff he keeps going for. I'm like,
you know what, getting it on fourth down is kind
of a skill.

Speaker 6 (24:59):
Just stop doing it. Just stop going for it.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Just don't just don't do it. You're not good at it.
You're not good at getting four first downs on.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
Fourth down and fifteen You're fifteen and fifteen in one
score games in three years, Like this is not really,
you're not. We could have anybody just flipping coins doing
as well as you're doing. You're supposed to be better
than the coin flip. Okay, you really are. You're supposed

(25:30):
to be better than the coin flip. But you're not.
You are the coin flip That's all you are. You're
coin flip Daily. That's what your that's your nickname, coin flip.

Speaker 6 (25:41):
There you go. Hey, we got to get that T
shirt made of him out of a penny or something.

Speaker 5 (25:45):
I want I want a little bit. I just made
that up off the top of my head. I want
to slice that coin flips daily. That's what your nickname is.
I'd rather have the crazy woman who was cheering for
them to be coach you.

Speaker 6 (26:00):
Actually, the creators fired up the woman.

Speaker 5 (26:03):
Who thought you everybody thought was a plant a Goodell plant.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
Like I love that.

Speaker 5 (26:08):
The conspiracy theories of Twitter are just so classic. But yes,
find the woman who was the Cadell supposedly the cadel
plant who had to come out the next day and
actually deny it.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
Yeah, you know, but you know that woman's going for
it on fourth down all the time. I mean, you
think you think Brandon Stalley not every fourth She wouldn't
even dress a punter. No, no, no, no, we're just
going to go for it on fourth down.

Speaker 5 (26:29):
Oh no, no, she's she has to be more sensible
than coin Flip, Like she really does have to be.

Speaker 6 (26:37):
We're not even broken down to days Flip.

Speaker 5 (26:39):
He's just going to be called coin Flip. How's coin
Flip doing this week? That's what we're doing this?

Speaker 6 (26:44):
Sure last your surname?

Speaker 5 (26:47):
Yeah, but yeah he's now he's now flipped. He's like
he's slosely related to Flip Saunders. So anyways, speaking of this, like,
what are the Bears going to do with the one
and two overall pick harmon? What's going to happen here?
I'm betting Alt and Bowers, Like that's what I'm thinking.
They're going to go offensive tackle insight ends. That would

(27:10):
be the bear sounds right.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
Yeah, yeah, they're going to go Caleb Williams and Lincoln Riley.

Speaker 6 (27:17):
That's what I know. No, don't go bringing that guy.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
Yeah, you're still getting Lincoln Riley. You're so getting it.

Speaker 6 (27:22):
I might auction off by fandom.

Speaker 5 (27:24):
He wants out of USC so bad because they're USC
is not even like that's the one that I keep hearing,
like the USC is not even paying the guys that
they promise to pay. That's the classic, like there are
no we'll give you three hundred thousand, and then the
kids are like, where's the money? Oh, with in the mail?

Speaker 6 (27:43):
With in the mail.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
That's such an l A thing to do, that is
that is a total LA thing to do, is make
the promise like they're going to be the ones who
tip the scales of n I l of No. No,
we actually have to have contracts now, like we actually
have to draw this stuff out and you have to
put the money in like escrow or something like that.
That's what we've got to do. That's going to be
the USC way. And that's why, Yeah, Lincoln Riley's leaving,

(28:08):
there's almost no question of that. So yeah, he's going
to be the coach in Chicago, but Caleb Williams. They
will probably take Williams and May though.

Speaker 6 (28:17):
No, there we go competition.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Yeah, when the Cowboys took Aikman and then got Steve
wallsh he'll be the same thing, same thing, just a generation.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
The guy Lombardo trade, remember the one too.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
He's on tighter at Jason Cole sixty two. That is,
at Jason Cole sixty two. With a change in eligibility status,
he is now newly married Jay Cole. Congratulations, buddy. We
will talk to you next week.

Speaker 5 (28:42):
Thank you, gentlemen, I'll talk to you later.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
Well, we have a big moving day potentially in college
football tomorrow. We got big matchups. Nobody better to talk
about it with than the owner, editor, proprietor of College
Footballnews dot com. You're one stop shopping for everything you
need college football, all the previews, all the analysis. You
can follow the man in charge on Twitter at Pete

(29:13):
few Tech. And if you can't follow him on Twitter,
He's the guy in the Michigan hoodie and the and
the and the hat on the sideline gesturing to the
Michigan coaches when he sees a play call that he recognizes.
Pete feutech. How's it going, man?

Speaker 7 (29:28):
It gets weird and murky here, because like, I don't
like Michigan, Like I am a I grew up in Minneapolis,
went to Wisconsin with my entire life in Big Ten Country.
All my friends are Michigan, went to Michigan. I don't
actually like them or anything, but they're just you know,
they went to Michigan. And but yet I am seems
to be defending this thumb program like every turn because

(29:53):
it's such a weird I mean, for all the other
things going on in the world, to compare what's going
on at Michigan in all the transaggressions, it's pretty insane,
especially this one, which isn't even really a rule. But okay,
I guess we're gonna get it all mad about it
because it's actually not illegal in the NCAA to go

(30:14):
steal signs.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
But when I look at this beat, you can tell
there is a little bit of the NCAA hates Harbaugh
with a little bit here. They do have a little
bit of an extra grind with him and you've seen
it in some of the penalties that they've had and
discussions and how this story is unfolded with the Michigan
sign stealing thing. If they find something, I can't see
there being anything short of right away it's going to

(30:37):
be Michigan's ineligible for the rest of the season. Are
they can playing, No, but they won't be able to
play in the College Football playoff or go to a
bowl game. I can say it's.

Speaker 7 (30:45):
At that's a little extreme. I think it would be
more like they would ban Harbaugh. It's I would hate
to see that because it would be ridiculously dumb because again,
find what because they to really dumb this down. What
they're talking about is you can't go to a bank

(31:07):
inside the bank and rob the bank. If you want
to steal the money online, you can do that, you
just can't go inside the bank and go do it.
So it's like it's the dumbest thing because it's just, oh, well,
they went to a they went to the game to scout,

(31:27):
which all this.

Speaker 5 (31:28):
Is is you kind of can't.

Speaker 7 (31:29):
You're not supposed to be able to scout, which is
a silly antiquated role to begin with, has nothing about
the stealing signs, So like if they get if you're
doing that, if you're saying, okay, Michigan, you are definitely
one of the four best teams in college football. You
and you're destroying everybody. You can't play for the national
championship because you send the scouts to go watch games.

(31:52):
That's what this has nothing to do with signed stealing.
It has to do with you sent a scout to
go watch games. If that's why you're canceling Michigan season,
that's just not okay.

Speaker 4 (32:05):
Just the laugh though, as it started breaking down the
last night, Pete was you know the idea that you
could have Joe Bob and include nineteen numbers after his
name and he could just put it up on the
message board and you can have the same result.

Speaker 6 (32:18):
Yeah, And as far as this goes, just super fan.

Speaker 7 (32:21):
You can hire drones, you can hire like hackers, you
can hire ai, you can do whatever you want.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
You can just you're just do it easy.

Speaker 7 (32:30):
Just go pay like the low level assistant coach to
come over and you know, be part of your staff
or go There's a million ways you can do. Everyone
does something. This one is just it just sounds bad
because oh, they're stealing signs. Oh Houston Astros, you know,
Oh my gosh, Lake, And it's just it's not that. Look,

(32:51):
it's not it's not good. It's kind of like, you know,
it's it's weak. If they did this, Okay, it's a
weak thing to get nailed for, but really, you're you're
gonna do them for this that right before and of
course it comes out right before the Michigan game, so
my Michigan State game. So my guess if I do,
I don't think it's kind of too late in the

(33:12):
game for them to nail them now. I mean, because
for them to do this, I mean the college football
playoff rankings come out with two weeks from now to
get them through this process and at the end of
the rainbow say you know what, you're ineligible for this
because of this. That's pretty fat. That's they have to
have some some pretty bad thing for Harbaugh and Michigan

(33:33):
for them to do that. My guess will be that
next year Harbaugh gets you know, six seven whatever games
the suspension, and that they move on from there.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
No, not when he's coaching the Bears next year. Hey,
he's gonna he's gonna be gone after Are you kidding?
This is this is the best team he'll ever have.
He's gone after this year. He's not gonna go seven
game suspension.

Speaker 7 (33:55):
Well, I see, you know next year with the twelve
team playoffs, they're in it every year, So.

Speaker 5 (34:00):
I get.

Speaker 7 (34:00):
You have to remember, these guys don't want Now it's
going to the NFL. You're taking a pay cut. You're
you're taking a pay cut, and you don't have any control.
You're not. No one's going to offer him, especially the
Bears are not going to offer him the GM and
coach GMS thing.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
So like, why would he?

Speaker 7 (34:18):
Why would these guys.

Speaker 5 (34:19):
Want to do that?

Speaker 7 (34:20):
When now in the you're going forward, you go ten
and two, you know you're getting paid, you know, ten
plus a million a year, guaranteed for life pretty much.
Why do you want to go deal with the NFL?
And you know, either you have Patrick Mahomes or you don't,
and certainly you don't want to deal with this Bears.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
All right, So moving on from here, let's stay in
the big ten, the big nude kickoff. We have a
big one with Penn State, Ohio State. My big bet
in this one, Pete is the under How do you
how do you see this w win losses because I
love the under in this one, but winner and loser,
who do you like?

Speaker 7 (34:53):
Yeah, I'm going to stay away on this. On the
actual bet, I can't because I can see we don't
because the problem is to go back to Michigan thing
for a sec is that what we like about Michigan
is they're consistent. They have done the same thing every
single week against mediocre to bad team. So what you
want is consistency. We don't know what Penn State is

(35:17):
because they've been kind of consistent, but they haven't played
a team that can throw a forward pass. Oh they're
the number one team in the country against you know,
on the pass defense stuff. They played Iowa, you know,
so they played what UMass Eastern Carolina mean the West
Virginia doesn't throw. They have not They really have not

(35:37):
played against a quarterback yet. Not saying Kyle mccordys DJ
Stroud or anything like that, but at least he's been
battle tested. Ohio States had to, you know, fight through
the adversity of being Ohio State, everyone being mad at
them that they're not winning fifty five. The negative to
going to Notre Dame and pulling that off they're they're

(35:59):
kind of ready for Penn State hasn't had to play
a meaningful snap since like the first snap of the
first the third quarter in the opener against West Virginia,
so I see where're coming from. The defenses are ahead
of the offenses. So I do like the under, and
I hate I despise in college football pros. Yes, college No,

(36:19):
if the spread is under seven, to go with the underdog,
but not to cover. But I'm kind of with you
if you like the under. Yeah, like you know, seventeen fourteen,
twenty seventeen, something like that. I think Penn State covers
but doesn't win.

Speaker 4 (36:36):
Speaking of really great over unders, Iowa Minnesota six three,
What are we looking at that?

Speaker 5 (36:46):
It's kind of a myth.

Speaker 7 (36:48):
Iowa actually scores. So my thing is in my ten
Best Predictions of the Week piece that I do, and
it's my thing every week. If you if the world
is giving you a point spread of seventy, you always
take the under every single time, and over the long
haul you'll get it. If it doesn't work, you tip
your cap and enjoy the show. You're given us thirty
and a half. You got it. I don't care.

Speaker 5 (37:10):
You go for it.

Speaker 7 (37:11):
You take the over. It's the smart move. If it's
ten to seven, If it's twenty three to three, that's
the more that's actually the most dangerous. The better play
here is Iowa.

Speaker 5 (37:21):
By the way, to cover give it three and a half.

Speaker 7 (37:25):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, because they don't lose last year. They
did last year they won by three. But Minnesota's not good.
The team about ioways so again, they didn't do it
against Wisconsin last week, but they score and always if
there's a team that can cover the entire total by itself,
and Iowa could win this thing, thirty one nothing, you're
thirty one three, you go.

Speaker 5 (37:46):
With the over.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
Peteutech College Footballnews dot Com Insider with us The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the TIRAG dot
com studios. All right, people, got elimination game between Utah
and USC. It's not been a great week for USC.
Instead of talking about getting over the Lawson Notre Dame,
it's Caleb Williams wants to own whatever part of team
the draftsmen in the NFL. Can USC bounce back this week?

(38:09):
Do they get a win or does their season spiral?

Speaker 7 (38:12):
Does he does this team look like the most focused
team to you. I they ever since the fourth quarter
of Colorado, they've checked out. I mean, I don't know
what that was.

Speaker 6 (38:22):
In Notre Dame.

Speaker 7 (38:23):
That was you know, they didn't really show up for
Arizona until they had to. And then Notre Dame that's
no name's not that good and they couldn't do anything.
They couldn't block the secondary of them problems. They just could.
Caleb Williams just wasn't himself. Seudn't have any time. They
just look bad. I think USC pulls this one off.

(38:44):
Utah is not great on the road. As good as
their their offensive is not doing much of anything yet,
as bad as the line as the defenses for USC,
it gets into the backfield and it's gonna create just enough.
I think it's gonna be another rough outing. That's a
game where I don't think you're going to see a
lot of points because UTUH keeps everything low. And I

(39:04):
do think US comes out of this one. But you're right,
Caleb Williams is a little too and I'm with it.
I've said this before, you guys, I don't know why
he's playing college football. He's got a quarter of a
billion dollars waiting for him, and he's thinking around playing college.
What are you go already? What are you doing? But
it does not seem like he is one hundred percent

(39:26):
fully focused on the task at hands.

Speaker 6 (39:29):
Well, so he was selling merch at halftime or anything allegedly.

Speaker 7 (39:33):
Yes, yeah he was, Yeah, you would sell me the
doctor Pepper.

Speaker 4 (39:37):
Well, I mean they're selling in their selling Pete. I
mean he wasn't, you know, pushing new T shirts up
on a website for you.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (39:47):
But near misses the last couple of weeks, Uh, and
narrow narrow Victory's Alabama nine point favorite against Tennessee.

Speaker 5 (39:55):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (39:56):
Anything for Nick Saban to be worried about this week?

Speaker 7 (39:58):
Yeah, I think so. I could be wrong on this.
Here's my overarching series. The SEC is not good. It's
for whatever, it's inexcusable because they have more talent than
everyone else. They're gonna send more players in the NFL
Draft than anybody else. And what do you got? I mean,
George's been kind off, but they're still good and they'll
probably win the national title. And Alabama's just been a

(40:21):
f they don't you know, they get there. They might
win the national title. But look, they're just no one's
playing great and then includes Alabama. Now once Alabama starts
playing other men SCC teams everything, oh look out Alabama.
No they're not, They're just kind of okay.

Speaker 5 (40:38):
I do think they win.

Speaker 7 (40:40):
Nine and a half is a lot. I'm going to
take Tennessee with a points, but I think battle polls
is off.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
You can fall on Twitter at Pete Feutech. That is
at Pete Feutech, checkout College Footballnews dot com all the previews,
all the analysis, or just look for him on the
Michigan sideline again, the guy with the hoodie in the hat,
gesturing to the coaches and also handing out cheeseburgers to
anybody that wants them. Pete as always buddy, appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (41:05):
Man.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
We'll talk to you.
