Speaker 2 (00:22):
Give this part you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Tuesday, Happy opening night in the NBA.
It's the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon,
live from the Tirack dot com studios diirect dot com.
I'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers
tirack dot com the way tire buying should be. Well,

(00:51):
we'll get to the opening night of the NBA. One
game down, one game still to go. The Knicks can
clinch home field a come court advantage in the play
offs by not playing tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
But here's the problem. Only four teams are and they're
all in the Western Conference.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
Doesn't matter, doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
I saw that close math and it's any three players
besides Brunson to get embiid pretty much.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
I think there was a four tweet thread to explain
everything that would go back to Philadelphia to bring over Jill.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
I mean, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Any three guys you want except for Jalen Brunson and
but what but one of them has to be Julius Randall. Okay,
any two guys you want for Joel mb and it's
not fase type. For any reports, rumor conjecture, speculation or
just theorizing in Twitter, you would just put it around
Julius Randall like he.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Has to be. He's got to be one of them.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Everything else.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Italics, whatever you want except for Brunson, anybody else you want.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Yeah, when we look at Julius Randall, it's in bold
face type and it's blinking at you. There's no mistaking
he is the part of the deal that has to
be there.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
You want Mitchell Robins, you want RJ. Barrett, doesn't matter.
Whoever you want won our next thirty seven draft picks.
Have that that doesn't matter. Jalen Brunson stays, and you
take Julius Randall as one of the three, you can
have any any I mean, anybody else I'm not gonna
say no anybody. What about Emmanuel? E Manuel quickly, yes,
yes you can, you can go get it. They don't
want to pay him anyway, Go ahead, go yet, man.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Who do you want? Any three guys except for Jalen.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yeah, my timeline was all about our man stallions again.
We'll get to that proposed trades for Embiid on the
you know, first day of the new NBA season.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
And then a lot of people proclaiming that the Lakers
were back.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Oh no, wait, that was in our text.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Messages, but a lot of tax messages and certainly a
lot in the twitter verse also predicting that while the
Lakers are gonna come out and show them after getting swept,
and after what Vic Lombardi had to say in that
pre game when he talked about sweat the Lakers, you
know when he really got into it that oh way,

(03:05):
do you see, They're gonna come out like a house
of fire. They come out like a house of cards.
But that's the secondary story because we've got a game seven.
We've got a game seven, Jason Smith.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
But but now you got me thinking about any three players.
But as long as as long as there's a whole
lot of three card Monteses. It's whoever he can't have
Jalen Brunson. It's it's like fantasy. Look at my roster,
the only guys, the only im This guy's untouchable, and
you have to take this guy.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
You've got anybody else of Jalen Brunson, that's just by himself.
Anybody me?

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Uh yes, Game seven in Major League Baseball. We'll get
to Opening Night in the NBA in a second. We
are going to the top of the seventh inning. The
Diamondbacks have a three to two lead over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Apparently Corbyn Carroll has decided tonight's to night. I'm gonna
get it. Hit every single time up and look the
stolen base after, you know, a two out single to

(03:58):
bring in the game tying run in the fifth inning.
Awesome bit of clutch. But then he steals second so
we can score on the dying quail to right get
him on Corn Carroll is special.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
You go back to manufacturing run. That's what they did
in the first inning. And that's what Carol does there.
So little ball, small ball, what major League baseball? And
you know, the fans of the game, the Gate keepers
of the game would love you to seek all home
runs all postseason and now.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
Small ball, we don't need any of those. Let's go.
Nobody likes home runs anymore. We love the stolen base
and guy's attempting to bunch you see, I want to.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah, that's a that's a tough Yeah. That's a talk
about a strategy that you not expected.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
I almost took a video like I was at a
concert that I would never watch again, just so I
can have that on tape that a guy attempted a sacrifice.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
Bunt. Hey, skip, were we supposed to pinch? Run?

Speaker 1 (04:54):
No, you don't want to pinch, but you're still going okay, okay,
bunt them over, butt them over.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
That's what it is.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Hey, Once he gets moving, I mean, oh, Moe is
gonna carry him right through.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Now, it's those first few steps that are gonna be
a problem.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Yeah, And and listen, it could be a big retirement
night for big time personality Chris Russo. Hope the Diamondbacks win.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
He said he would double down tomorrow if the diamond
Now maybe he's planning to retire maybe, And that's it,
And I'm just gonna do I'm just done. I'm walking away,
but uh, you know, look it's kind of fun and
Tory Levello's that I'm looking forward to seeing that.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
I'm kind of looking forward to seeing that. I'm curious,
can you can you know?

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Because he's pop a bottle of champagne after the the Diamondbacks,
should they finish this game off? Does he pop a
bottle of champagne and say, hey, Ce and hell, it's
been a good run.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
You know?

Speaker 1 (05:42):
This is this is the thing, just really quick before
you get into the Lakers and the Nuggets is this
is this is I don't want to say the down part,
but this is where the most eye rolling radio and
television topics go, where you you just want to say,
what are you really trying to do? Because when all

(06:03):
you're trying to do is get clicks and attention, you
can see that you have no depth, right like, like, look,
we talk hot takes all the time. I love hot takes,
but hey, I we talk about hot takes because I
believe it.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
I believe this hot take. I bet a argument.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
It's not a I'm just saying this for it, but
that's what it is.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Yet, but you can you could see you can see
the personalities and whether it's on all the networks. You
can see all the guys on TV who just sweat
every day because they go, I've not made it viral.
I've not trended on Twitter with something incredibly inane that
I have said in the last three days. And I'm
feeling the pressure my agents saying I haven't seen you
trend in a while.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
I haven't seen it.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
So I got to come up with something really crazy
and ridiculous, because that's what's gonna cut through. Because what
still cuts through is when I say something stupid and
people want us to have and go, look how stupid
this guy is, and that still makes it to that
And that's and that's what you see with things like this.
There's no substance behind this. Oh, I think the Phillies
are gonna win. I'll retire. Is he really gonna retire?

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Is he done?

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Are you not gonna see him anymore? Or is it
gonna be one of those ah hah. Look I became
a story for a day. But that's what it is,
and that's you know, and that's what that's what I
really don't like about where we are sometimes in sports
and sports talk radio and television because it's like, you know, hey,
have something hot, but have some substance behind it, have
something that is not just hey. Because I'm smart and

(07:22):
I can play this off, and I can give you
a good ninety seconds about this. No, No, if you're
gonna say something crazy and stupid, give me more than
ninety seconds. Give me something more than just well because
of this and this that's what I think it. Uh,
And I'm gonna yell and I'm gonna say, I just say,
and I'm gonna you're gonna yell at me, and I'm
gonna have a give me more than ninety seconds on it.
Give me more than ninety seconds on this because this

(07:43):
is just is just empty. But I guarantee you he's
saying to himself, look at I won. I won the
day because I'm the guy from the day that people
were talking about. They were talking about me and not
anybody else from any other different network, and weren't talking
about Steven A or skip right. But no, they were
talking about me because I said this incredibly crazy thing.
And this is why you see all these new athletes

(08:05):
that are getting on televid Now, I'm going this is
what they've grown up on I need a really hot
take that sounds crazy, but I can kind of defend
it for a little bit, just for a little bit.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
I don't need to go crazy on it.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
I need to just defend it for a little bit
so people go nuts and then I make headlines.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
Oh but that's all you need.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
It is ninety seconds, because that's generally as long as
people are going to stay for a clickworthy video on
any of the social media platforms.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
Now. Oh, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
If I see a good clickworthy video, i'lse say, oh
you okay, got it?

Speaker 4 (08:31):
Sorry? Sorry? And I say some stupid things.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
You say some stupid things we're not on TV to
where it gets amplifier like I look, man, those are
seven figure jobs where you just get to say something
dumb and nobody cares move on to the next dumb
thing you said.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Did you get as far as you did in your career?
I'm stupid for five minutes at a time. Wow, really,
Now I only have to be stupid for ninety seconds
at a time.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
It's great. Welcome this head just walk away television.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
And then I watched the clicks rolling right as it
gets aggregated, and can you believe what this guy said.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
Can you believe the error they made?

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Some of the egregious all right, this guy's gonna really
lock him up tonight. It's like, you know, he's been
on IR for four weeks. You know he left for
another team. That guy retired. He's a teacher in Utah.
He's not a farm you know what I mean. It's
like things like that that just make me laugh. He's
the guy that go find in the beginning of the movie.
We need your help. The government needs your help. I
haven't been an active agent in ten years. You're the

(09:27):
only one who knows we're gonna send you back in
across the enemy line. We went back into the files
and you're the only ones still actively commissioned, even though
you've taken a long leave of absence. The others have
all been terminated or are long retired of out of pocket.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
We need you back instead, it turns the tropic thunder.
Where is your farm? I'm a lead farmer, but the
guts come out there you go, where is your farm?

Speaker 4 (09:55):
I'm a lead.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Farm but like legitimately we've had the jokes on our
Sunday morning show, and you and I for as long
as we're doing this like, all right, how hot a
take and how stupid to take? Can I have on
a game when you just watch Let's say the Lakers
just got drummed by the Denver.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
And they did.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Let's go, let's light some stuff on fire, and let's
get after it.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
We're in the final stretch to get tickets to horse
racing's biggest moment of the year. The world's best are
headed to Santa Nita for the Breeders' Cup World Championships
November three, November fourth, The countdown begins now. Get tickets
today at Breeders Cup dot com. Now, speaking of the
Lakers and the Nuggets, the Nuggets win this game going away,
and I'm stunned at the number of people who are

(10:39):
talking about this game saying, oh, look at the Lakers.
I can't believe they're gonna lose again. It's another awful
year for the Lakers. That's all these things. It's hang
on a second. The Nuggets are the defending champions, right.
They look just like they did in the playoffs last year.
Really looked like the playoffs was this The game was close, well,
you know, the Lakers were able to fight back and

(11:00):
then suddenly the Nuggets started hitting threes, they started making
their shots down the stretch. This was exactly how Opening
Night is supposed to go. The defending champions are still
the defending champions, and there's great continuity with this Nuggets team,
So yeah, they're gonna still be at a pretty high level.
The Lakers have pieces, they're still figuring out right, who's

(11:21):
gonna play all the minutes?

Speaker 4 (11:22):
Yes? Did Austin Reeves? Did Captain America have a big night?

Speaker 6 (11:24):
No?

Speaker 4 (11:25):
He did not.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
But the Lakers have to figure things out a little
bit simply because they have some new pieces. The Nuggets
are a finished product. They're a finished product, and they
are the defending champions and they're the odds on favorite
to win again. And this is not something that was unexpected.
The Lakers winning would have been unexpected. Well, opening ninth
and for any big potential, you thought that, well, there

(11:48):
could be the teams coming in flat and Opening Night,
the Lakers can come in and steal one. You're getting
your rings, and you know, Michael Malone pregame is going
this team, this team that can't stop to talking about us,
Really you can't stop talking about them.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
Doesn't matter. Let's get fired up.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
So you know, they're extra fired up for this game
because of the war of words it's going on between
the head coach and the Lakers over the past few months.
So yeah, this is expected, this is this is not
all the Lakers are on courts and you know the
bad You know, this is expected. A game like this
will be much different the next time they play and
the time they play after that, after the Lakers figure

(12:24):
things out. But the Nuggets are a complete and finished product,
and they won exactly how I thought they were gonna win,
even if I want to say they looked a little
bit better than I thought they would be, cause really
it looked like they had last played a game like
two nights ago, and here we are again, we're in
mid season form.

Speaker 4 (12:37):
It was a clinic by the Nuggets.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Once that game got to three points, it was okay,
now we got to start playing a little bit more,
and they just amped it up and the Lakers couldn't answer.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Yeah, they had a couple of runs where it seemed
like the lid came on the basket. Neither team, uh,
you know, really shot the ball particularly well, you know
when you look at it overall, like for stretches, right,
Denver started out hot and then there was a stretch.
I think Jokics at one point missed seventh straight shots
and they rolled through. But you know, they didn't do

(13:07):
a lot from the free throw out, which is funny
because there was a lot of complaining and handwringing over
the fouls being called against the Lakers and not on Denver.
A couple of streaks that survived this game. The Lakers
lost their seventh straight opener, and when the Core four

(13:28):
play the Nuggets twenty two to zero against Western Conference opponents. Now,
so those things continue, but you look at that starting
five and Jokich obviously just picks up where he left off.
However much time he spent shooting a basketball versus riding
a sulky doesn't matter. Twenty nine points, thirteen boards, eleven assists,

(13:50):
and a plus fifteen for the night. They did shoot
fifty two point seven for the games. There were a
couple of just cold streaks that really stood out. When
the Lakers were able to battle back into the game,
as you said, they got it down to as low
as a four point deficit at one point, Lebron just
twenty nine minutes. That's something to circle in the process

(14:12):
as well. They didn't run him out for the forty
two like we would have seen to start last year.
So I will applaud them for not feeling desperate and saying,
you know what, we're doing everything we can.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
To win this game.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
Because you had a couple of scary moments, right Anthony
Davis went into the crowd at one point, was very
slow to get back out on the court. Austin Reeves
kept jumping on chairs, trying to show everybody he tries harder.
It's like, you got paid, Yeah, you got paid. You
don't have to put yourself in precarious situations anymore like that. Okay,
leave the hustle, play for the next guy up there

(14:47):
and just go play sound defense.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
Twitter At how about a Fresca exit? How about a
Fresca exit?

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Swollen down The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live
the tirect dot Com Studio. I mean, this is how
the night was supposed to go for the Lakers, supposed
to go with for the Nuggets, and what we saw
this is not anything, not.

Speaker 4 (15:03):
Doom and glooming. Oh the lake is not this. Turn
it down to go to eighty two.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Here we go, right, hot take enough that is hote
eighty two, it'd be great. That's pretty good. It's not
quite the same.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
Turned that camera up really bright.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
It's not quite the sense of bottles when he said
the Warriors were gonna go eighty two and oh that year.

Speaker 4 (15:20):
That was good. That was pretty good. He believed that too.
I was great. By said, you know what, if it's
not lying, if.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
You believe it's true, every this is how it's supposed
to go. Meanwhile, how are things going in Philadelphia? Really quick?
The Corbyn Carrol game. A sacrifice fly is just brought
in the fourth run of the game for the Diamondbacks.
They are still batting runner on second, two outs in
the top of the seventh. They now lead the Phillies
by a score of four to two. Zach Wheeler, hero

(15:45):
of Game five, is warming up in the bullpen to
potentially come in for the Phillies. We'll bring you more
on this because you know everyone's available in a game.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
Hey, game seven?

Speaker 5 (15:55):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (15:55):
But coming up next? What did it really look like
for tonight? Does do the Nuggets have any problems? How
about the Warriors and the Suns? Are the Suns the
new power in the West?

Speaker 5 (16:06):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (16:06):
Keep it right?

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Here, we're taking a look at opening Night in the NBA.

so the Diamondbacks go to the bottom of the seventh
with a four to two lead, looking to get to
the World Series.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
We'll have more on this coming.

Speaker 1 (17:27):

Mark g Underscore Medina. Longtime NBA insider and reporter Mark.
What's happening, buddy, Welcome back for another year.

Speaker 7 (17:48):
Yes, thanks for having me. How do you know I
was going to make fun of the next I have
a lot of respect for the Eastern Conference's third best team.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
Hey, hey, you.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Just wait until we get Joel Embiid and then the
jokes on you because I've.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
Already made the deal happen. Here's the deal.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
I call the Sixers and I say, okay, I see
all the rumors in the New York papers. Hey, e'mbeat
and beat and beat. Okay, you can have any three
guys off the team you want, Wait, anything, any three
except I do rule it can't be Jalen Brunson and
Julius Randall has to be one of them. And that's
the deal. Any three guys you want, one of them's
got to be Randall and it can't be Jalen Brunson.

(18:22):
And there's a trade.

Speaker 7 (18:24):
Yeah, I think Darryl Moore, even if you called him drunk,
we'll just sang up.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
All right, give me his number. Let's let's prove that.
Gimmy his numb gonna call I'm gonna call him on
the air. You give me, give me Daryl Moorey's number one.
We do have to warn him that we're gonna put
him on air.

Speaker 7 (18:40):
I think to get that number, you will have to
call me drunk. But thankfully I'm sober.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
All right, well, all right, so wait, hey, hey, hey, Brando, wait,
call Mark Medina again three and a half hours from now,
and then we'll see what happens.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
A right, very good.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
So all right, look, let's start tonight. We watched the
Nuggets pull away from the Lakers, and you know, seeing
the social media reaction this game is a little weird
for me. Because this was a game the Nuggets were
supposed to win. They were supposed to win how they did.
The game got close, they hit threes, they hit their shots.
The defending champs opening up at home, they don't like
the Lakers. This is how it's supposed to go. The
Lakers need a little bit of time, the Nuggets win

(19:14):
the game. That's kind of what I saw.

Speaker 7 (19:15):
What about you, Yeah, I saw that it's a season opener.
It won't mean anything once it comes April, May and June.
But I think, you know, the short term concerns on
the Lakers is that they're talking about, hey, they're so
amped up from all this trash talk. At least, you know,
some of them acknowledged it, and then they did not
have that complete effort. There was also a fear that
the Nuggets had that the emotions would get the best

(19:37):
of them with Ring Night and then they would have
a letdown. That didn't happen either, And so I think
when you're looking at the Lakers, certainly there's positive parts
to take from it, the fact that they were resilient
the whole game, they stayed in it. Lebron James play
well even with just having twenty nine minutes, but Anthony Davis,
he had the Jekylin Hyde act, so did D'Angel Russell.
Austin Reeves' shot didn't go down, and so I think,

(20:00):
at least short term, the Lakers had always felt that
their playing card to win a championship was retaining this
entire group together because of what they showed during the
second half of the season last season. And we did
not see the kind of, you know, consistent chemistry that
we thought they would show. But again, it's one game
to your points the defending champs. It's going to happen,

(20:23):
but it reinforces that there's a lot of work to
be done from now until April.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
I think one of the key things you threw in there,
Mark was the fact that Lebron only played twenty nine minutes.
So as much as everybody amped this up as a
grudge match because of all the yapping, that they didn't
get sucked into it and try to trot Lebron out
there for forty like we would have seen a year ago.

Speaker 7 (20:43):
Well exactly a year ago. The first half of the season,
Lebron James averaged thirty six minutes to night post All
Star Break, thirty four so clearly Darvin Ham has more
of a comfort level of reducing Lebron James's workload because
the talent around him is a lot more. And I
think it was telling that when he looked at last season,
he was scoring in bunches and it didn't just have

(21:04):
to do with trying to break Kaream Abdul Jabbar's all
time scoring mark. He was scoring in bunches because other
players weren't scoring. So ideally it's about Lebron taking a
back seat, trying to be facilitator mode. But I think
on the other side of the coin, the Nuggets showed
that they have not missed a beat. There was some
talk about, oh, well they lost some of their depth
with Bruce Brown on what do they do? And I

(21:26):
was talking to Calvin Booth, the Nuggets general manager and
trading camp and he was saying, well, we have a
comfort level because we have Nikolea Jokic and Jamal Murray
on our team. You know, that's the core. But I
think the bigger part is they still have plug and
play players that can provide some you know, secting and reinforcement.
With Christian Brown having a bigger role, he already had

(21:48):
that big block against Lebron. So I think now when
we're looking at these these two teams specifically, clearly the
Nuggets are in the driver's seat because of their defending champs,
but the common denominator is they're trying to lean on
their continuity and depth as much as possible in hopes
to go up against some of the other juggernauts like
the Bucks, like you know, the Phoenix Suns, like the

(22:11):
Warriors that made some pretty significant offseason trudes.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
All right, So Mark, so.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Taking a look at the Nuggets seeing where they are,
because they looked like they just played a game three
nights ago as well as they played the Lakers, made
it close, they started hitting threes and that was it.
If I said to you, give me your give me
your breakdown of the chances you think the Nuggets could
repeat when you compare it to other teams in the
last few years, whether it was the Warriors or somebody else,

(22:39):
what do you think their chances are of repeating this
year compared to other teams.

Speaker 7 (22:44):
I think it's a coin flip. Because the Nuggets, they
have their same core back, they're mostly in their prime.
I think it's talenting that talking to the Nuggets. They
want to get the number one seed to get more
wiggle room against the crowded Western Conference, and usually defending
championship team say, oh, it's just about health and getting
through the grind of the season. We don't care about standings.

(23:04):
But on the second, the other side of the coin
that does leave me a little bit skeptical is I
think that you can make an equal case for the Bucks,
for the Celtics, for the Lakers, for the Warriors, maybe
even the Knicks ye to win a championship as well.
And I think that is telling that no team has
repeated since the Golden State Warriors in seventeen eighteen. Since then,

(23:28):
the rest of the landscape has just been completely wide open.
There's been a lot more parody, and it's been good parody,
meaning that there's just a lot of good teams that
have a legitimate chance. So if I had to make
a prediction, I would choose the Nuggets, but I would
not be comfortable putting money on them or really any
other team, because I fear I would lose it.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
That no money left. I just like the way I look,
I didn't know where that was gonna go down.

Speaker 7 (23:56):
I would definitely not bet on the next because I
knew I would definitely definitely lose it now.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
But wait, that could be your cha.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
Hey, the odds are a little bit longer for a
really good team when they get embied.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
You just watch just wow. You just have to try
to make that come into fruition. Mark Medina our guest
at Mark g Underscore Medina where you see him on
x slash Twitter for all his latest writing, television, radio,
all the appearances, all the information, uh and his thoughts
on the NBA at large. You find them there. You'll
hear them with us here as the season rolls on

(24:29):
on Fox Sports Radio. It is the Jason Smith Show
with Me Mike Harmon here on Fox Sports Radio as
we celebrate opening night. Just two games to get things started.
But as you look at the landscape as a whole, right,
you shrink it down to title contenders, but out outside
of Victor Wembinyama, and you know what's the actual height
from which he can block shots?

Speaker 5 (24:49):
Right?

Speaker 3 (24:49):
I mean, because look, we can do a lot of
things with photography. I could make Tom Cruise look like
he's six ' five and right now wem Benyama looks
like he stands above the rim.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
So we've got that.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
For us, a storyline or two that you're interested as
we get things started, just from a theory testing that
you know your look at the NBA.

Speaker 7 (25:11):
Yeah, I think the other storylines that I'm in treat
beyond the Championship contenders. We talked about New Orleans Pelicans
can sign Williamson ever stay healthy. They're saying all the
right things that he's did a lot of good rehab
work that are optimistic about his ability to stay on
the floor. But the results are the results. He's been
this amazing general generational talent when he's on the floor.

(25:33):
But I'm going to wait and see mode in regards
to that. And then the Clippers, there's a reason why
I did not include them in the Championship contending mixed
because I'm skeptical they can stay healthy.

Speaker 5 (25:43):
Now.

Speaker 7 (25:43):
I was at their practice facility today and we caught
up with Kawhi Leonard and he said, at this point
in time, he is fully healthy. He went through the
entire training camp, no restrictions, scrimmaging up and down the court,
you know, doing conditioning drills, guys, regussion about his leadership,
and that's a positive sign. It leaves Tilou in a

(26:05):
lot better spirits and having some optimism that you will
see the Kawhi Leonard that produces on the court at
a superstar level, but again similar design. Their record is
what it is during the Kawhi Leonard Paul George era.
They've just missed way too many games to make me
a believer. But you know, it is an intriguing thing
to watch because their help that on proving.

Speaker 5 (26:27):
Otherwise, did you.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Get Kawi to say he was in the best shape
of his life?

Speaker 7 (26:32):
I did not, but I did get him to say
that he feels fully healthy in one hundred percent, So
there you go.

Speaker 4 (26:37):
Yeah, and I have two words for that, for now,
for now, for now.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Hey, lastly, right now, late in the first quarter, Phoenix
has the early lead over Golden State twenty five twenty one.
If I said to you, Mark, which team are you
believing in more this year? The Sons of the Warriors,
who would you tell me?

Speaker 7 (26:54):
Yeah, I would pick the Warriors only because I have
more faith that the Warriors can make the Chris Paul
experiment work a lot better than I have faith with
the Sun's staying healthy. And I think that for the
Suns it's disappointing because you know, being around them a
few days ago talking to Eric Gordon, they really talked

(27:15):
about how that Big three from an ex's and o's standpoint,
with Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker have great chemistry.
I don't think there's going to be any issues about
them coexisting and sharing one ball. But it's Opening night
and Bradley Beal is already not available because of an injury,
and that leads me to be concerned that this is
just going to be an ongoing thing, where with the Warriors,

(27:37):
you never just count injuries to Chris Paul. But I
think that a they have the Championship Corp around him
to reduce his workload. They have a really good medical staff,
and I think from the buying process, it's telling that,
you know, talking to Kevon Looney, he's telling me that
Chris Paul is saying, Hey, I want to play the
way you guys play, you know, not pled pick and roll.

(27:58):
And so I put my money on the Warriors as
far as where they rank between Phoenix.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
He's on Twitter at Mark g Underscore Medina that said
Mark g Underscore Medina, NBA Insider Check them out. Marks
always appreciated, looking forward to the whole season with you,
my friend.

Speaker 7 (28:13):
I appreciate you guys, and uh early condolences for tomorrow's
loss against the Celtics.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
Wow wow, wow, k of swinging at you over the time.

Speaker 4 (28:24):
No, right, haven't had the game yet, and he said,
welcome back. Mark. Just wa take that, just wait, take
it easy, buddy. We'll talk to you all right there. Mark,
you one more time, that guy.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
I'm only gonna take two bad things about the next.
We haven't even played yet, and you got your two winning.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
That's it. You're done.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
You're done now, can't do it anymore. He went for
the hat trick. We're in the denied. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app. I'll tell
you what's going I'll tell you what's going on? Is
now Trey Turner, as Kevin told us, flies out to center,

(29:07):
and he looked non competitive in that at bat.

Speaker 4 (29:10):
He just looked like he did not is waving anything.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
And it just so happened to be the biggest at
bat of the year for the Phillies. So now there's
two outs, runners at first and second. But guess who
is coming up and is at bat now for the
biggest at bat of the season, Bryce Harper, and it
looks like the Diamondbacks are getting out of it. Harper
flies out to center to end the inning. The Phillies

(29:33):
had two on, one out, and the Diamondbacks get out
of it. DJ clearly Philadelphia rolling snake eyes with their
two best hitters up in the seventh.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
That was very well played right there.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
So we are going to the eighth, the Diamondbacks up
four to six outs away from the World Series. I mean,
get two thirds of an inning, two quality pitches for
outs for Turner and Harper by a man named Ginkle,
we've won. Yeah, yeah, No, I know you're right, you're right,
because I'm trying to think it would be but I

(30:05):
can't think of another word, like, you know, because gingle
boloba is that that's right, But I can't come up
with what would boloba sound like? And Ginkle not to
not to says not belo ba the point. But he
just got out of the inning. I mean, look, I
mean it's a little bit forced, but he got the job.
But look, his his curve was breaking feet like he
really had it work. And he was throwing that exclusively

(30:28):
those last two at bats.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
Flies out part of yeah, he was just waving at
the bo groundouts coming up to that at bat, and
it was like waving, uh, several feet above the pitch.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
So after the break, so pretty pretty amazing. And now
if the Phillies have to do it, they got to
do it. Hey, your two most dangerous hitters. Now you're
not going to see him again, all right? I mean
you you're saying, can we get Harper back up again?
Can we get you got six outs? He made the
last out of the inning. That's gonna be tough.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
That's good. It's gonna be tough, like the case's below
the point. But gets there, you go. You knew we'd
get there. It was just a matter of time. That's all.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
Exit out about a fresca exit swollen down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
Coming up next.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
You want to know why the Cowboys always fall short?
You want to know why they fall short? You need
no other evidences as to what we're gonna tell you.
Coming up next, You want to know why the Cowboys
always fall short. It was something that was said today.
That's all the evidence you need. That's next right here,
Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
You want to know why the Cowboys always fall short?
I want to know why why there's something there? There's
well they hell no, no, no. All you need to
know is to listen to what Jerry Jones said today
on one oh five to three The Fan in Doubts
where he does his weekly spot where he talks about
the Cowboys. Now, obviously with the trade deadline coming up,
it's a few days away now, Halloween, the trade deadline,

(32:07):
he was asked about the potential of the Cowboys making
a trade to improve the team, and listen to Jerry
Jones's answer.

Speaker 5 (32:14):
It'll have to come our way. I don't want to
preclude it in any way, but it always does. But
you have a lot of massinations that you're working with
every day. I do. But the initiation of an opportunity
to make a trade at this time that would help

(32:36):
us principally has to start over on the other end.
So that's not being showing a lack of aggressiveness. It's
just that's where it starts. I like where we are
with our personnel today, and so I'm not thinking in
any way that we need to upgrade our roster.

Speaker 4 (32:55):
Okay, this is why the Cowboys fall short.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Not a lack of aggressiveness. No, it's very different definition
of lack of aggressiveness.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
WHOA, Yeah, we'd make the trade, but it would have
to come from the other side. Wait, what like we
I've got to be with the four we have. I
like who we have, but I'm not gonna seek out
a trade. Even though the Cowboys could use something offensively,
they could use some help. They need something. And Jerry
Jones sits here and says, I like where we're at. Oh,

(33:24):
I would make a trade, but you have to call me.
I mean, what, what kind of logic is that? Until
you realize its Jerry Jones, And I'll tell you exactly
why he said it. What he said, right, what kind
of lot If you need to make a trade, if
you need something, you should be trying to figure it out.
You should be the one saying, hey, hey, hey, Mike Evans,
you really want to stay here? In uh in Tampa.

(33:44):
We really, Hey, Davante Adams, you want to come put
a star in your helmet.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
We're gonna call and talk to the Raiders. We're calling it.
But why is Jerry Jones doing it? This or this
is the backwards way to do it. If you need
something to make your team better.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
You go do it. There's two reasons why. Number one
and it's all about Jerry Jones and his image. The
number one reason is because Jerry Jones doesn't want to
look desperate, because if he looks like he has to
make a trade, it looks like he doesn't have a
good enough team. And Jerry Jones always says, this is
my team. These are my guys, and if I have
to go out and get somebody, it means I didn't

(34:15):
build the team the right way. And I'm not admitting
to that, and I'm not admitting to that. I'll make
a trade and so oh hey, well we weren't looking,
but hey, what a great deal it was for us?

Speaker 5 (34:25):
Right?

Speaker 4 (34:25):
That what a great deal because there's just fell in
our lap.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
Right.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
So that's the first reason why, because it's a bad
reflection on him. Secondly, if he doesn't get it done,
it looks bad on him.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
We can't make that trade.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
It happen, right, We couldn't make it happen, Jerry, how
do you not make it happen? And I don't want
to get blamed for that. It's all Jerry's ego, which
is why you get a crazy ass statement like this
where we would trade. But it's gotta be somebody calling us.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
What the hell is that?

Speaker 5 (34:51):
Wait?

Speaker 4 (34:51):
But that's ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
And here's the thing that's like me saying, you know, hey,
Harmon and I maybe we're gonna go to the movies
tomorrow night.

Speaker 4 (34:56):
Are you gonna go? You're gonna call him? No?

Speaker 1 (34:58):
If Harmon wants to go, he'll call me. Why don't
you just why don't you just call him and tell no? No,
If Harmon wants to go to the movies, I'll go
to the movies. But he's got to call me. But
why can't you just call him if you want to go?
Maybe he wants to go? No, no, no, no, no, no,
I can't do it. There's no logic other than I
want to protect my image. If I can't make the
trade or it looks like I haven't built a good
enough roster.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
No, try are we gonna go see Fab five Freddy's
this weekend? Or way you have to? I don't know,
I don't know. Are you asking me? They may have
to call you. You have to call me and ask me. Yeah,
we'll figure that out.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
But yeah, with Darry Jones, you just had your bye week,
you had two weeks of an evaluation period, and you're
telling me you came away from all of that saying
our personnel is perfect and we're in the right spot.
Now you are you in bold in a little bit
by what you saw the last two times the forty
nine ers took the field. Perhaps perhaps you're feeling a

(35:47):
little bit better and you're standing in the NFC after that,
even though they beat the hell out of you a
couple of weeks ago, I'd.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
Feel worse because I would say they beat the hell
out of us, But they just got the hell beat
out of them by two teams.

Speaker 4 (36:00):
How far are we away really from?

Speaker 5 (36:01):
No?

Speaker 4 (36:02):
No, no, no.

Speaker 3 (36:02):
But but you know, just stay with me though, because
you had these last two games right that they lose,
so all of a sudden, you're like, all right, they've come.

Speaker 4 (36:09):
Back to earth. The world. You know, time is a
flat circle.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
Think about Jerry Jones delivering that I would ask him
to utter a bunch of movie lines for me if
we got them on for an interview.

Speaker 4 (36:19):
I just want I just want you to have these
so I.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Have I have them in my arsenal Jerry, for the
rest of our radio existence. But you look at you
point out Mike Evans and you look at wide receiver.
Seems to me there's a need there right to bolster
that you've had guys in and out of your offensive
line through the first six weeks of the season. And
as we know and as we talk about all the time,

(36:42):
and you hate me for it, the fact of the
matter is you got what a handful of teams that
you look at their offensive line and say, I like
the five I got let alone. Do I have someone
to back up when one of those guys gets hurt?
Or do you have to do like the Bears did
against the Raiders your offensive line suspect. So you're number
two pass catcher in Cole Comet has to become a

(37:04):
blocker for the game and really not be involved in
the passing game at all. Is that where you're at
as you play better teams Because it's not about measuring
where you are against the bottom feeders. You're trying to
figure out how do I get better? And guess what
after next week? You don't have any more opportunity to do.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
That unless someone gets unceremoniously dumped.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
What are you hoping for? Another couple losses from Denver?
So they cut part ways with more guys. Guess what
they're looking to do that on the defensive end, they're
not giving away the others on offense and just kicking
them to the curb. Someone's gonna come with an offer,
even if it's a bag of balls.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
My ego won't allow me to make a phone call
for a trade. Cowboys don't look desperate, dude. Maybe this
is why I've won a super Bowl in thirty some
addios when you used to go every other year. Right,
maybe this is why, again, why do the Cowboys fail?
The owner saying, will trade, but you gotta call us first.

Speaker 4 (37:58):
I the way to do best?

Speaker 3 (38:00):
How is that a way I'd like to make a deal.
We've got a whole wall full of possibilities. But you
know what they're gonna need to make the first move.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Man exit about a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith
