Speaker 1 (00:35):
Tirac dot com. I'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free roadhazard protection at over ten thousand recommended
installers tirack dot com. The way tire buying should be
uh so much to get to tonight Opening Night show
in the NBA, the Nicks and everything else and more
scandal and there's a there's upset boosters that are turning
(00:57):
Michigan into everywhere else. It's an InSync a day.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
I wrote a manifesto.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
All day you did the Michigan manifesto. Yes, how to
take oh blank Damn? I wrote my own. It's much better,
but of course, we want to start extra dose is
of fun tonight, all our thoughts and prayers with Maine
and Lewiston and the tragedy that's gone on there. That
is a developing story and there's it's just an awful,
awful thing. And are are we are never far from you.
(01:25):
But our business is sports, and we are here to
help take your minds off stuff like that and to
present stuff that is a little bit more, you know,
a little bit better to listen to, whether it's the
nixt losing or not. Because the Knicks lost to you know,
opening night tonight, the Knicks loss, so your team doesn't
have to But I just want to let you know
that that was, of course is at at the forefront
of all our minds here at Fox Sports Radio and
(01:46):
beyond now our business of sports. Obviously opening night, you
heard Brian Finley just play the highlight moments ago. Christops
porzingis because of course, Chris tops PORZINGI Sports thirty first Beard. Yeah,
that's okay, Okay, here it is. Yeah, it's okay. The
(02:08):
Celtics can win tonight. The Celtics can win August twenty
October twenty fifth, and in two months when Christops Porzinga
suddenly isn't playing and they don't know when he's.
Speaker 5 (02:19):
Don't do that, don't know, don't be that guy. Keep
your sour ass on it here. I don't have time
for that on a Wednesday night at two minutes in,
you're already doing that nonsense. Oh he's going to be
hurt anyway, just at your salty. He got away and
he punked you. Just don't you repeatedly? You know why,
(02:39):
because he actually hit anybody. You had the bulls of
the worst team in the NBA.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
They hit the chet home grin though you're just yeah, yeah,
Now it's a rivalry, right.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
I thought he broke his ankle, like literally the way
he stumbled on that Andre Drummond drive.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
But you and your chet home grin, man, there's gonna
be problems. Yeah, I mean that was gonna crazy man.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
But I mean you're just mad that Porzingis went nine
to ten from the fall line and took care of
business when it mattered.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Look and and look nothing changes from last night. Look
the Knicks blow a lead that Celtics scored nine in
a row. Look the Knicks are up six with four
minutes ago. They come back from behind, and this looks great.
And then suddenly the Celtics can't miss. And of course
the Knicks, outside of Jalen Brunson, Emanuel quickly can't go
to Julius Randall because Julius Randall is horrible tonight five put.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
Him in that playoff, you know that tournament thing that
they did with Michael IMPERIALI, why's Julius Randall in there?
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Why wouldn't you pick a different representative.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
I don't know, man, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
He ain't gonna be there.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
No.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Five out of twenty two, one out of five from
the free throw line, and he's minus thirteen for the night,
the biggest minus of anybody on the Knicks. And I go, listen,
what I said last night still goes. Nicks get Joel Embiid,
the seventy six ers, get any three guys off the
Knicks roster they want except for Jalen Brunson, and Julius
(04:04):
Randall has to be one of them. The trade is
still there in my car, it is right. Every day
it'll be I'll call the sixth, I'll call, I'll call
every day. I'll call Darryl Morian and say, hey, dude,
I don't think you're a liar. Let's do business together.
Let's make a trade. I think you're doing a great job.
Let's make a deal here, and I would make that trade.
It would be any three guys you want. We have
a very talent roster. Any three guys except for Jalen
(04:26):
Brunson and Julius Randall has to be one of them.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
Patton pending, patent pending, since everything else we do get
stolen and misappropriated.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Time right there, the.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
Game show about trades where you know you've got the
long stick microphone, like you're Bob Barker or Jean Ray.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
No.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
I was absolutely because they also wanted to think about
Wink Martindale. But then they gets me lamenting the state
of the Giants defense most weeks, and I don't want.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
To do that right now.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Now you're down a rabbit hole.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
Look where you are, and then you just go spiraling down. No,
here is here's the trade as proposed. You get a
giant video board that has highlights and then ends with
a nice photo of Julius Randall from the best that
you can find from media day because you get him,
and then you get to choose from column B and
it's rotating like you're spinning the wheel. Two prices, right,
(05:20):
I mean we got to have, you know, at least
visuals to get people along. And then the third one
is what's in the box, okay. So you could take
you know, two, say from column B, or you can
go one and the bonus, and the bonus is in
the box, okay.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
And it could just be season tickets.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
You could see. It could be an autographed we got
Julius Randall and season tickets.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
I mean it could it could be an autographed Allen
Houston Jersey. I mean, you just don't know. But it
adds an era, like, you know, because they used to
open it and then there'd be a donkey inside this
giant box.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
So you know, we gotta have some fun with it.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
H That trade out there and anyone can have it
at any time, anytime. It's that it'll be there. I
don't think I'll ever pull that. That's like when you
offer someone to trade in fantasy and they say, hey,
set an expiration on it. No, this will always be
there whenever you want to do this trade. I will
do this trade with you.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
Things really hit rock bottom, let's do it still be
there for you.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Can I still accept that trade. He offered it to
me three months ago. If it's still offered, you can
still take that trade. All right, let's it will be there.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
It'll click the link on it to do the comps
again and what the analysis is, and it starts playing
the Friends theme song.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
You know.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Here's because that trade doesn't go away before before.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
We get to Wemby. I mean, honestly, look, the marquee
game of the night, Celtics beat the Nicks one o eight,
one oh four. Porzingis has thirty Jason Tatum has thirty four.
The new look Celtics have enough to win on the
road at MSG the part of this game because everything
is fine, listen, Okay, the Knicks lose this game, all right,
I get it. That's fine. They probably should have won.
But the thing that gets me more than anything else
(07:00):
is not Hey Dante DiVincenzo, who they gave a lot
of money to, scored no points and didn't make a
shot to all right, that's not gonna happen. He's gonna
hit his shot, right, there's lots four. They're not gonna
shoot thirty seven percent from the floor always still plus five, buddy, Right,
all of these things are ok. Hey, you can affect this.
You can affect the game without scoring. But all of
these things I look at and go, man, ah, I
did you know? Heart? Really? Seven points and twenty two
(07:22):
minutes he's usually been. All of that's fine. I don't
care about the red. All of it's fine, except I said,
it's another night where I have to look at volume
shooter Julius Randall and watch him continue to miss shots
because he can't make shots when he's double teamed, he
can't get his own shot, and we have nights like this,
and I just it's like, how much more of that?
Am I gonna have to watch? How much more they
(07:43):
have to watch? Hey? Yes, Julius Randall is a good player,
but the Knicks treat him like he's a one and
he's not. He's not a one. Brunson's your one, and
that's your problem. Now is your number two? Hey? Is
your number two really Julius Randall? Because the look he
has too many games like this where he doesn't make
enough shots and he demands the basketball. And when when
(08:04):
you're a when you're a front court player and you
don't make shots, dude, front court players don't miss as
many shots as you do. They don't do this when
you're a front court player and you're missing. It's how
can you How can we still give you the ball
that many times? How can you shoot the ball twenty
two times again? You can't? Right? So, I mean, I
know it's one game, but I feel like this is
just Hey, like we watched the Nuggets pick up from
where they left off last year with their level of excellence.
(08:25):
I'm watching Julie's Randall pick up where the level he
left off last year is here. He is take it
too many shots and we wind up losing the game
and we can't give him the ball. We need a
shot because he can't make it. And it's it's the issue.
He's a he's a He's become a progress stopper with
the Knicks. It's like because they gave him all that money,
had the one great year and twenty hey, they raise
a batter for him msg Julius Randall twenty twenty everybody, uh,
(08:47):
And because of that, it's like they've been they've been
stuck for the last three years. And Okay, Randall's got
to be one of our two guys. And it's dude, Randall.
Randall's game is that you can see it's not. It doesn't.
It doesn't play into long term success. Yes, he has
big games once in a while, but by and large,
when you have nights like this, there's just too many
of them and you rely on him for too much.
(09:07):
If he was the knicks third best player, I would
say okay, But then again, would he would he would
he be able to do what he does in the
box score elsewhere if he didn't get the ball twenty
times a game, maybe not. So you see where the
Knicks are stuck, right.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
They need it.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
They need another player at the top of their rotation,
and it can't be Julius Randall. So again, that's why
my duell and b trade offer will never expire, never expire.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
And it will never be accepted. Look as we look
at this process, I keep keep rejecting that trade. The
guy keeps sending it to me covery day for damn
Pets Cemetery.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Movie, I thought I killed you. Ah back baby.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
You know, you go back to his final year in
Los Angeles and then the year he had in New Orleans,
and you look at how efficient he was.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
Now.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
The scoring wasn't there that final year for the Lakers,
but he got a lot going on, a lot of
people need needing to be fed. Going back to twenty
seventeen twenty eighteen, but he averaged sixteen points a game,
but he shot almost fifty six percent from the field.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
He was efficient.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
The next year he goes to New Orleans and he's
efficient fifty two point four. It's down, but the scoring
average goes up. Now you're getting twenty one four and
then ever since then you're hoping to get to forty five.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Forty six percent.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
Last year was an achievement because he improved almost five
percent over that disastrous twenty twenty one to twenty two season.
Still twenty points a game, and folks can point to that.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
I don't care.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
Everybody scores twenty points. You play enough minutes, you're finding
twenty points in this NBA, particularly if they're gonna keep
calling the damn flop and all this crap because they're
gonna be free throw parades when it's all said, none
lunacy of opening Night. I'll tell you what, but you're stuck.
You are absolutely stuck with a guy who you gotta
(10:54):
You've gotta play minutes, and it seems like Thibodeau just
I don't know how he eats his tongue and is
able to just not run out on the court and
close line him at times with some of the decisions
that are made, and then defensively just getting worked. So
I mean, you're you're not getting much help on either
(11:15):
end from him, and it can be some empty stats,
and certainly fantasy basketball player is gonna take some of
the points and rebounding totals on a nightly basis and
find some value in daily fantasy. But it's painful, and look,
as a team, you guys collectively just should be shooting
free throws. The Suns won and then did a team
(11:37):
workout in the hallways for hours. The Knicks should be
still on the free throw line. We should be able
to go and do a live look in of them
getting yelled at by Thibodeaux while they shoot free throws.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Exit. How about a Fresca and swollen dome. The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live the tirec dot Com Studios.
We're in the final stretch to get tickets to horse
racing's biggest moment of the year, World's Best headed to
Santa and DDA for the Breeders' Cup Championships on November
third and fourth. The countdown begins. Now get tickets today
at Breeders Cup dot Com, now elsewhere. Look, big night
(12:09):
in the NBA. I got a lot of games to
get to we'll talk about, but the debut of Victor
wembin Yama so far, so for the Spurs, thirty to
twenty two lead late in the first quarter. Look at
the Spurs scoring thirty points in the first quarter. I mean,
come on, man, I.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
Picture that one up. Good.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Yeah, And so far it has been a big night
for again shooting for San Antonio. Wemby has played five minutes,
three points, two rebounds, and assist at a block. He
is plus seven for the night so far for San Antonio. Again,
you look at where he's at right now. We saw
the over runners Trumber like eighteen points and seven or
(12:45):
eight rebounds and all of that and a half blocks. Baby,
I'm gonna say he's gonna blow past all of those
except for maybe the points. I'm gonna say he gets
the blocks. He's in double digits for rebounds, he gets
five or six assists, and he but points okay, three points.
He's only he's only shot the ball a couple of times.
It looks like the spurs are spreading the floor. That
what I've gotten to see from the game since we've
(13:06):
come on the air points might not be there for me.
Maybe one of those nights. Remember his debut was I
want to get everybody involved and not make it look
like I'm taking every shot, so I'll take the over
in all of the categories. Woman Yama tonight, what was
pretty cool to watch, right he got a rebound and
then started to get get the break moving and pass
the ball up the court.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
First block was on Kyrie. I would have gone to Kyrie,
can you sign my ball? You know, have you seen
my baseball? To go back to there's something about Mary.
But then he took two three point shots. It doesn't
look like he want at least for those first couple
of minutes, and obviously it's a five minute sample size,
(13:47):
but he wasn't hanging around the low post on the
offensive set. He was hanging around the perimeter for a
good chunk of it, uh and taking those two threes,
the second of which fell. But I tell you, there's
an electricity man seeing that pregame stuff and the you
got the firefly looking thing like you're either at a
Taylor Swift show or celebrating life in times of Bray Wyatt.
(14:10):
I don't know what was going on, man, but the
energy of that, you know, give you goose bumps as
that crowd came to life.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Exit out about a fresca. Mike Swollen Dome, Jason Smith,
Mike Carmon Live from the Tirack dot Com Studios. It
is a big night in the NBA. You could say
it's the real opening night. We had two games last night,
and we have basically a full slate of games and
I'm still waiting for the Blazers and the Clippers. You
just called them.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
The Lakers the undercard.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Well to get well, the Knicks play tonight, So I mean,
come on, man, the Knicks play tonight. That's that's what
the Knicks played, all right, and they lost and okay,
one game it's okay, it's okay, and one game closer.
Moving on from Julius Randall, that that's what we're doing.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
Is that is that how we're gonna play the next
eighty one games.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Wow, eventually we're going to trade Julius Randall at some point.
It's going to happen.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
But coming up next, we have new twist and turns
in the Michigan sign stealing scandal.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Yes, harn wasn't kidding when he talked about the Michigan Manifesto.
That's coming up next. Right here, Jason and Mike from
thetirach dot com studios, This is Fox.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon livethtirack dot com Studios. We are in
the final stretch to get tickets to horse racing's biggest
moment of the year. World's best are headed to Santa
Anita for the Breeders' Cup World Championships on November third
and fourth. The countdown begins now get tickets today at
Breeders Cup dot Com. Well, big night, Big night. In
(15:54):
the NBA, we have lots of games breaking down. We
talked about the Knicks and the Celtics a few minutes ago.
How about the Pacers score one hundred and forty three
at home on opening night. How about let's go get new.
Look at that pey one forty three. They beat the
Wizards one, forty three to one to twenty. Kyle sixty three.
That's insane, that's not Do you have the over under
(16:14):
on that? Do you have the overr on j I
crushed it? Oh okay, all right. Jordan Pool with eighteen
in his Wizard's debut. Kyle Kuzma, for reasons passing understanding,
is still a wizard. He had twenty five. So we'll
have more NBA on the way again. Tons of stuff
to get to the debut for Victor Webbin Yama. We
are going to the second quarter in San Antonio. The
Spurs lead the Mavericks forty three thirty six. Usually that's
(16:37):
an entire first half for the Spurs, and points is
forty three, but forty three at the end of one.
They are shooting sixty percent from the floor. Wemby's got six,
two rebounds and assist and a block in his NBA debut.
He has played seven of the twelve minutes.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
So that's pretty impressive. Look at the Spurs.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
Look, I gotta get one update in while I can, uh,
because look, everything can or not A dime seven to
fourteen from the field, twenty eight minutes played, eighteen points,
seven boards, three assists.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Welcome back to Zion Williamson.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
I thought you're gonna say before the Bulls game goes fine, Like, no,
the Bulls game we lost, play twenty that's fine.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
No, it's funny.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
I was going back and forth with my brothers watching
a little bit of it, and they were watching and
like immediately they're just like, wait, flopping is now a
technical following out?
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Yeah, it's a new world, man, it's a new world.
It is not the NBA you once knew.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
I'll beat up. Look a couple of minutes on Zion
before we get to this big story out of college football, right,
Zion Tonight is first game back, seven out of fourteen
from the floor, as you said, eighteen seven, three assists
just him being on the floor and twenty eight minutes
a night. They're beating the Grizzlies one oh six ninety
with four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Remember, no,
(17:54):
John Morant after the first you know in this game
here twenty five games, yeah, twenty five, yeah for the
first but no, no, tonight we have Marcus Smart in
his debut, he's got fifteen and three. But this is
this is where every season begins for the Pelicans. Zion
Williamson is here, he's playing, and you got how long
do you have him for? And you just got a hope? Right?
(18:14):
I mean, look, I want the guy to succeed. I
want all the players, you know, all the star players
succeed because it's better for the NBA when star players
are stars. But are we ever gonna get to a
point where we're not going? Well, yeah, it's great for
Zion Williamson, but how long is this gonna last? Right?
How long is this gonna last? I want him to
go through and have a healthy season and play what's
a sixty five games I guess would be a great
(18:36):
number to look at from v plays sixty five games?
But look, the guy played over over twenty five games once, right,
and that's in twenty twenty twenty twenty one, So I
mean it missed the whole next season. He has not
played a lot of basketball. So I'm hoping for the
for the Pelicans, what they can do to make this
go as long as possible. We saw the Lakers doing
it with Lebron James last night. They're limiting his minutes
(18:58):
so he can be fresh down stretch. When a guy
hasn't played a lot of basketball, make sure you keep
his minutes down. Don't go crazy and try to Hey,
Zion's feeling good, he's out there. No understand, you know
you're there to be the coach. You're there to be
the organization, not his best friend. Twenty eight minutes to
night for him with three minutes to go, okay, I'm
hoping maybe not anymore and he's not in the game
(19:20):
anymore and that's it for him. But twenty five, twenty
eight minutes, okay, I think I think that's the right
number for Zion Williamson for a while, until he gets
used to playing back in the NBA again.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
Yeah, my memory is a little fuzzy because we haven't
seen a lot of it. I don't remember him being
a wizard on the defensive ends, so if he sat down.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
That'd be okay.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
I preserve the lead.
Speaker 5 (19:40):
But the bigger thing is to your point, like we
talked about with the Lakers, and there was some video
going back and forth, did Lebron want to go back
in did he want to change up how they were
doing it?
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Whatever?
Speaker 5 (19:50):
You know, and even in his post game he's like, Wow,
I guess that's the plan more or less in terms
of playing twenty nine minutes in the opener. You're not
winning a title on October twenty fourth or twenty fifth, right,
It's an eighty two game slog and your hope is
that you've got zion for the bulk of them.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
So what do you need to do? Manage it as
best you can.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
Look, there's no predicting what the next drive to the
hoop is, the next spectacular play, because we already have
a couple of highlight pieces making the rounds in the
interwebs based on this first performance. So we enjoy him
as we can. But if you can measure the minutes
and the torque, and he's a little leaner and meaner.
Maybe not the best shape of his life, Jason, like
(20:34):
you right now, but you know he's at least carrying
a little less zion than he has in season pass.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
When is the guy never in the best shape of
his life? No one comes to camp. How do you feel?
Speaker 4 (20:44):
You know?
Speaker 1 (20:44):
I have in really bad shape, man. All I did
was eat donuts in the off season. Who I put
on like twenty five pounds and I haven't run at all,
like in months, Like I don't know that I can
make it up and down the floor. Man, So I
fly and get into shape over the course of the
next month here in training camp.
Speaker 5 (20:58):
Can I tell you who is in the best pick
of his life right now? Who just got drafted? Mane
the Dubai bas Baseball League. He was the sixteenth overall pick. Wow,
Robin Cano was the sixth overall pick.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
You never know these guys go hey, hey, hey, we're
getting in. We're getting into all sports now. I never
know these guys that go over and play.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
I want to see the logos though, the Abu Dhabi Falcons,
the Karachi Monarchs and the Mumbai Cobras.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Let's go Cobras are pretty cool like that, Like I
think they should go next. Lot just have like real
cobras at the game. I just have real cobras at
the game. And like during the seventh inning stretch, you
have a thing with the fans where hey, get on
the field, catch a cobra and win a lot of money,
and they like loose all the cobras on the field
and fans try to catch them. Whoever catches the most
Cobras wins the money.
Speaker 5 (21:48):
Does Randy Quaid come in and do that just like
it's the snake round up in vacation.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Oh yeah, I'd like to see. Why do you have
a celebrity do it once in a while? Why not
he'd be the first guy.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Yeah, yeah, it's good. Yeah, everybody had that handle those man.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
I got bit by seven cobras, But I'm gonna make
this five hundred bucks tonight by winning this contests.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
Wait, we are supply chain of antidote to the venom.
Speaker 5 (22:13):
The anti venom did not arrive in time, so please
take this commemorative bobblehead instead.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Twitter it out about a Fresco Mike get swollen dome
in the final stretch. You get tickets the horse racing's
biggest moment of the year. World's best are headed to
San Anita for the Breeders Cup World Championships November. Third
and fourth countdown begins. Now get tickets today at Breeders
Cup dot com. Now, we had another big twist and
turn in the Michigan sign stealing scandal today take your pick, right,
(22:40):
what do we tell you when this first broke, we said,
watch every day there's gonna be something because it's one
of those stories. Because you know, we've been doing this
for a minute, and sure enough, every day there has
been at least one new twist in the Michigan signed
stealing scandal, whether it was schools talking about how they've
done it here, or video of coaches who were upset
about something happened at halftime of games, or more on
(23:02):
on on Stallions and and and and his background and
what he's doing in the games he's gone to. Well
today brought us two big new twists. One is that
Connor Stallions, who was the coach who is at the
center of this. He's the guy that has gone out
and gotten video allegedly of other teams and stolen their signs,
which can't happen in college football. Uh. There's a story
that he and another friend of his, low level worker
(23:26):
with Michigan football wrote a Michigan Manifesto, which was a
five to six hundred page document that that described in
detail how they would take over the Michigan football program.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Well, I mean you gotta start with a plan how
they would take right.
Speaker 6 (23:43):
I mean, look, the say everything a business plan on paper,
right that every day starts with an idea, Right, Dizney
and all started with a mouse here.
Speaker 5 (23:54):
It's got to start with an idea. Someday I want
to be the ultimate fighting champion. Okay, maybe in the
maybe not. I want to be the Michigan head coach.
And here's how I ingratiate myself with that entire world
and find my way there. And the road is a
long and winding one, and it is I read these
(24:16):
articles like fourteen times Smith, I'm not gonna lie to
you trying to make sense. We got hard drives over here.
We got this guy in his manifesto. We got the
idea that these low level dudes and scouts were paid,
including travel, about.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Three hundred and seventy five dollars a game. That's love
of team right there.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
The budget was fifteen grand for all these games. Like,
I know you're desperate to get on the inside, man,
but know your value.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
Good?
Speaker 1 (24:45):
My god, his his like he writes about how, hey,
there's other groups of people out there planning the same
thing at Ohio State and other schools. I'm like, whether
they know it or not, I'm like, no, these guys
are actually coaching games. And when the Ohio State coach
leaves or that's fired another coach who's been a head
coach or has been coaching somewhere at a high level.
(25:06):
He's just gonna get the Ohio state jobs. It's not true, man,
It's not like you're gonna get it. Hey. You know what, Hey,
we got to replace Ryan Day. Yeah, you know we
should get that guy that wrote the Michigan manifesto. Boy,
six hundred pages, he's out. You know what. He is
an attention to detailed guy. Let's go get him. Bring
him in. But he's never coached a game and all
he does is take video of the other teams. Doesn't matter.
Let's make him the head coach. Right, Like, we're like,
(25:28):
what kind of takeover would it be? Would it be? Suddenly, Hey,
I'm replacing Jim Harball with AI Jim Harball, and he's
gonna make all these mistakes. And I'm gonna be a
hero because I'm gonna use my special Forces training to
grab the AI Hardball and stop him from making all
these big mistakes. I'll want me to be the head coach.
I don't get how you think that. I'm just planning.
We're planning a takeover the Michigan football team. We're planning
(25:50):
it no.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
I mean, look, I think you're trying to show your worth, right.
I mean it's the low level guy that's you know,
he's plucky. That's our word of the year, Sure, the
year of sports talk radio word of the year a plucky.
That and host award shows and then win an award
the next year. That's my goal, you know, kind of
(26:10):
like the sing a song winn a Grammy idea is
the idea that you're going to make a bunch of
little moves that are all going to be seen by
the higher ups. Knowing that the people you want to replace,
I mean, they all have to vacate their jobs, but
in the interim, you show great value to them and
to the program. And in this case it's to the
tune of millions of dollars, lots of applications to the school,
(26:34):
a lot of notoriety, and you can try to claim
I was that guy that did all that. That's how
you're convincing yourself this is gonna work. I'm not saying
it's sane or rational. I'm just saying that's how you
do it. You start with the idea that you're going
to be the greatest sikaphan that there's ever been, you know,
(26:54):
like your Smithers and then at some point you're gonna
take over money Burns his empire.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
I'm gonna write a manifest Could you get working on
that and let me know when you're done. Great, okay, fantastic,
And then you go do the grunt work. And in
theory it leads to promotions. In theory, how is what?
What's you? Oh? That's page three thirty two. Turn to
page three thirty two in your manifesto and it tells
you how I get to be Penn State every year.
(27:20):
Go ahead, just just turn to that page right there.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
That's your Well.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
James Franklin has this tendency. There was the great video
of the play that they snuffed out in that game,
and everybody's like, ah, I was like, well, okay, might
have seen it.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
I don't know. That's like I'm sure, I'm not sure.
James Franklin's on the sideline saying, assume Michigan has seen everything.
Speaker 5 (27:42):
Okay, assume they know what we're going to run, but
not to be an ass and not to its too
late for you for that. Well you know what I
mean to channel what Dion had to say, and so many.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
Other voices like.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
I always assume, you know, if I'm a coach, the
Walls had years right that if I've run plays in
week three, week four, someone's been watching and someone's picked
up not just what was on television or whatever was
on a tape that's widely disseminated, is that someone is
(28:18):
gonna figured it out. Which is why we have all
those crazy ass play calls. Why you have a f
foot by four foot laminated placard with all sorts of
cryptic language or stuff that looks like it's written in
klingon on guys' wrist bands, because you're gonna be able.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
To blow it up and see it language. I don't
know that it is. It might not. I don't I
think it might not be a language.
Speaker 5 (28:42):
But you get my point, Like, I'm assuming I've got
to change out a hell of a lot of stuff
week to week, figuring somebody somewhere, even if it is
Joe Bob boost Or and not a guy who plans
a non violent takeover of the Michigan football program, is
paying attention to what I'm doing, you know.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
But this is the other part of this story, right,
and this is what I really surprises me. Is that
when these new angles come out, right, we have an
angle on how this is getting out because apparently an
upset booster is the guy who is leaking things. We'll
get to that part of it. But every day there's
a new wrinkle to this story, right, And every day
(29:22):
I see a lot of the reaction like Dion Sanders, well,
we gotta stop it. As coaches, we gotta stop it. Well,
members of the media saying, Okay, it's really not that
big a deal. I really don't say. Yes is what
Michigan did. Cool? Probably not, but other teams find a
way to steal signals. It happens more than you think.
And I understand all of this, but I am stunned
(29:43):
at the overall reaction to this because it's like these
these coaches and the pundits don't see what's going on here.
The NCAA is after Jim Harbaugh and Michigan. They're gonna
come down incredibly hard on him. They already have come
down hard, and and with things that you didn't think
we're big deals because we know and we've told you,
the NCAA has a little something something for Harball, Right,
(30:05):
they get a little be in their bonnet when it
comes to Jim Harbaugh. They comment on investigations just because
they don't like what's being said. When they don't comment
on any investigations but the Harball one, when we want
to say it's more about cheeseburgers, When does the NCAA
do that. They got to be in their bonnet for
Jim Harbaugh. Right, So, now you know how this is
gonna go. I mean whether or not you can say, ah,
it's not that big a deal. This is still in
(30:27):
a legal situation and the NCAA has seized computers and
there's in the middle of this and they're trying to
figure everything out. They want to get Harball and they
want to nail him to the wall on this. And
I'll tell you how it's gonna end. And we have
our bit on social media. We talked about it the
last few nights. They have this evidence, they have the
electronic evidence of stallions and taking video that he's not
(30:49):
supposed to. That's game over for Michigan. It's gonna be
adjudicated very quickly. It'll be adjudicated before we get to
the end of conference championship Saturday. So the College Football
Playoff Committee be able to pick who they can for
the CFP. Now, the CFP has no uh, the NCAA
has no sway over the CFP. But the NCAA is
gonna ban Michigan from the Big Ten, or depending when
(31:10):
it comes in, they'll ban them from postseason eligibility or
ban them from bowl games, or there's some kind of
ineligible and eligibility ban, and the CFP will go along
well with it because they don't want to ruffle feathers.
They don't want to say no, no, no, we're gonna
allow this team that was cheating in because now you've
upset all the other teams in college football where this
can happen to Michigan because they'll change their tune if
there's no big penalty come in Michigan's way. Suddenly all
(31:32):
these coaches are gonna go, oh wait, they're allowed to
do that. All these ones, Oh, it's not that big
a deal because they know what big punishment's coming, and
if big punishment doesn't come, they're gonna go, oh, well,
wait a minute, they can cheat and they can do
all that. And meanwhile, our coach did this and he
got this, and our coach is being investigated for this
and you're gonna give them that. Watch what happens. I'm
telling you, I see this coming, and it's we're gonna
get an answer on it some time in the next
(31:53):
two to three weeks. All right. It's a little bit
of time for it, because you're talking about the end
of November when you need to know beginning of December.
So yeah, have a month, but you're gonna get if
they have this evidence, there's no other way they can go.
Then it's an ineligibility thing because you want to do it.
Make it just Harbaugh. Wait a minute, just Harball gets
a band, but the team gets a play. Wait, that
doesn't make any sense. And Harpball is gonna leave after
this year anyway. He's not staying for the year of Michigan.
(32:15):
I'm gone after this man.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
So this is your own melting around him.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Yeah, this is your only chance to get him. And
that's exactly what NCAA and the CFP is gonna do.
It's gonna be ineligible to win the Big Ten and
they're not gonna be selected for the CFP because of that.
Speaker 5 (32:30):
Yeah, I gotta I know, we gotta get to our
guy Fendley. But I'll just say this mysteriously, some benefactor
dispatches trucks with communications enabled helmets to every school.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
Tunna fixed the problem solver Mike Rabon, No, Well, that's
what I do. I solve problems. Matt Weiss.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
Was it off his computer that someone got access to
or do we have a hacking situation like we've had
in Las Vegas where this outside for got the files,
Because that's the part of the equation manifestos and all
we can joke about a bit. I want to know
how they got the information to begin with, where they
get the data and the files and the hard drives.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Well, you know, I'm glad you asked that question because
we have that coming up as well, because that's the
other big bit of news they came out today. But first,
as you mentioned, Brian Finley has what's trending in the
wide world of sports.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
But yef he hey, guys, hey watching this as you
guys are talking about this, this Spurs Mavericks game, and
of course you see Greg Popovich arms cross waddling along
the sideline and Victor Webbiniana has two three balls. He's
got six points. Of course, the highly sought after, well reputable,
top notch player from this last draft, and he is
(33:45):
making his debut in the regular season for the Spurs.
So six points for him fifty two fifty two Spurs
and Mavericks about five minutes ago in the second quarter.
I'll make this update quick, and I know you guys
got some things to do here, so I'm just gonna
squeeze in a couple more scores. Kings ninety two, Jazz
seventy eight. Four minutes to go in the third quarter.
There Harrison Barnes twenty eight points. Clippers and Trailblazers are
(34:07):
about to start here in a few minutes. That's the
last game to get underway. Hornets over the Hawks won
sixteen to one ten.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
PJ.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
Washington twenty five points. Piecers they take a crowbar to
the Wizard's one forty three to one twenty Kyle Kuzma
twenty five points in a losing effort. Chris tops Porzingez
thirty points in a Celtics debut as he pulls up
with a couple big buckets late in a one one
oh four win for the Celts over the Knicks. Magic
get a big win at home, a Marquee triumph. On
(34:34):
sixteen eighty six against the Rockets Cole Anthony to rebound
shy of a double double wins for the Heat in
stunning fashion one of three to one oh two, just
because of how tight the game was. That was a
win against the Pistons. Nets coming up shorts one fourteen
to one thirteen at home against the Cavs, Jason Michael
Levy with this the Grizzlies lose at home. Desmond Bain
did have thirty one points one eleven to one oh
(34:56):
four Pelicans victorious and the thunder with a shake Gildess
Alexander thirty one point ten assists affair fueling OKC to
win against the hapless Bulls. Mike, I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
I'm sorry. There was no reason to talk about that.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Game, but you know what it did.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
It allowed me to segue back to you guys, because
it obviously had a special place in your heart, the
Chicago Bulls, given all the time you spent there, and
leading it back to you guys.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Okay, yes, thank you very much. Brian Finley appreciated the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon live
from the Tirack dot Com Studios. Coming up next, Hey,
if your team needs a wide receiver, at the trade deadline. Yes,
we talked about Davontae Adams. Luck looks like maybe you
can't get him, Mike Evans, Maybe you can't get him,
but there's a new star you can go get because
(35:50):
he's not happy. That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon. Weaked, He said, ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Alex Tysher back at work after a couple of nights off.
You can tell about the musical stylings that just won't quit.
Hi about the hour one of the show. Hello, we're
in the final stretch. You get Alex tyshert fired. We're
in the final stretch to get tickets to horse What
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I just said so I read
the wrong piece of papers. Yeah. Yeah, We're in the
final stretch to get tickets to horse racing's biggest moment
(36:25):
of the year. The world's best headed to Santa Anita
for the Breeders' Cup World Championships on November third and fourth.
The countdown begins. Now get tickets today at breeders Cup
dot com. We have big stuff out of the NBA
coming up in about ten minutes, because hey, Opening Night
Part two in the NBA. But two big NFL stories here,
(36:47):
and the first one is if you need a wide receiver,
the guy now apparently to go get is not DeVante Adams.
It's not Mike Evan to The guy to go get
is Michael Pittman junior from the Colts, having to explain
how upset he was not part of the game plan
last week. He did catch a big long touchdown, but
not happy. Did come out and say, listen, I'm competitive,
(37:08):
you know, but I want to be part of the
game plan. I want to be this. Uh you know,
here's the thing you're building around Anthony Richardson. Do you
need a great wide receiver? Do you need that guy?
You have a couple other good ones. It would catch passes.
Alec Pierce looks like maybe he's finally stepping up a
little bit. It's all about Josh Downs, baby, you know,
Josh is terrific. Man. Look, Reggie Wayne called him the
(37:30):
best receiver in the draft. Hard to say that he
might not be.
Speaker 5 (37:32):
I mean, he talked about him before the season even began,
that he would be telling a big deal.
Speaker 4 (37:37):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
He did he did save me and g I love
Josh Downs. Uh, and you know when you have to
pay Pittman because he's coming up for a new contract
as well. We have a couple of guys we really like. Uh,
what kind of year is this gonna be? We're playing
with our backup quarterback all the way through? Yeah, maybe
Michael Pittman's the guy on the on on the on
the block that you can go get if you need
a wide receiver. It's not gonna be is expensive. You're
(38:01):
not gonna have to. Oh you want Davonta Adams. We
want a first and a second and a third. No, no, no, okay,
you gotta pay him. We'll give you something. You know
it'll be. It'll be a decent package coming back. But
he might be the guy you get, and he's a
pretty good receiver. This is the guy that's put up
numbers regardless as to who his quarterback has been. And
he's had eleven different quarterbacks in the last three weeks alone,
(38:22):
not counting Philip Rivers and Matt Ryan and Gardner Minshew
had been whoever the quarterback has been in the last
two three years. He has put up numbers. He is legit.
Speaker 5 (38:31):
That goes back to my thing of why does everybody
keep carrying Chris Ballard's damn water in all of this?
But that's that's a whole other argument for another time. Yeah,
he's in the final year of a deal. But it
becomes the question of who's available, right Kyler Murray's back
in practice for Arizona, So Marquy's Hollywood Brown may not
be one of those guys that we're looking at Carolina
(38:53):
should sell, but Adam feelin you know, he's your only
hope to make Bryce Young functionally, to give him some
help and guidance along the way. So yeah, might as
well put some feelers out to Indianapolis. Hey, Jerry Jones,
they're not gonna call you, so.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
Can we make it look like I got a phone
call from an Indianapolis area code. Because it looks like
we got a phone call, I can call Ballat back
and then it looks like we looks like I'm not
reaching out because I said we're not going to reach out.
But I'll make it look like we got a phone call.
Or you can leave me a message say it looks
like you say I ND and meanwhile you mean it's
Indiana Jones called for me. I thought it was Indianapolis.
I'll call, We'll get Michael Pittman Junior.
Speaker 5 (39:33):
That's I misread the zip code, so I called back
Indianapolis on a guess.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swelling Don Michael Pittman's
good man. You need a guy, Go get him. The
other big NFL story and more on opening night. Day
two in the NBA is next right here. This is
Fox
